Madrid CFF 0-2 FC Barcelona Femeni: Player Ratings
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Photo courtesy: FC Barcelona Femeni X In the world of football, anticipation often builds before the first whistle. For FC Barcelona Femeni fans, the wait for the first match of the season felt even longer due to unexpected player strikes. However, when the day finally arrived, the anticipation was met with jubilation as the Catalan team emerged victorious with a 2-0 win in an away match against Madrid CFF, securing a 2-0 victory. Goals from Caroline Graham Hansen and Asisat Oshoala secured the three points for the Blaugrana in their season opener. Now, let's delve into the player ratings and dissect how each player performed in Madrid CFF 0-2 FC Barcelona Femeni.
Cata Coll: 7
fresh off an impressive showing in the just concluded 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, started between the goalposts for Barcelona Femeni. Throughout the match, she had little to do, as Madrid CFF struggled to create significant scoring opportunities. Cata Coll maintained her composure and never really looked troubled, making it a quiet day for her.
Lucy Bronze: 7.5
the experienced defender started the game with a bang, delivering a dangerous cross into the box in the opening minute that nearly resulted in a goal. Bronze not only excelled offensively but also demonstrated her defensive prowess. She won back possession effectively when she lost the ball and managed to mark and contain Kundananji. However, it's worth noting that she received a yellow card during the match. Irene Paredes: 7.5 known for her reliability in defense, didn't disappoint. She stood firm in the backline, thwarting Madrid CFF's counterattacks and through balls. Paredes showcased her defensive prowess with 2 clearances, 2 blocked shots, and 1 interception, a ground duel along with two aerial duels won.
Mapi Leon: 7.5
Mapi Leon's impact on the game was evident from the start. Her well-taken corner early in the match caused problems for Madrid CFF's defense. Throughout the game, Leon contributed to the team's attack with precise passes and excellent crosses into the opposition box. Her defensive contributions included 1 clearance and 1 interception. Notably, she created 1 big chance and completed 4 accurate crosses out of 8 attempts.
Ona Batlle: 8.5
Ona Batlle made her presence felt as she played through the left-back position. She confidently drove down the left wing, delivering dangerous crosses into the box and creating goal-scoring opportunities. Batlle fit seamlessly into the team, despite it being her debut for the garnet and blue. Her standout moment was an exquisite assist to Asisast Oshoala for Barcelona Femeni's second goal. With 2 key passes, 1 big chance created, and 1 assist, Batlle was instrumental in the victory. Batlle's pinpoint assist to Oshoala for the second goal demonstrated her understanding of her teammates' movements. She also forced a save from the Madrid CFF keeper with a well-taken shot in the second half.
Aitana Bonmati: 7
Aitana Bonmati had a relatively quiet first half, struggling to get much involvement with the ball. However, she maintained composure and kept things tidy. Although she didn't impact the game as much as she would have liked, her presence remained felt.
Ingrid Engen: 8
Ingrid Engen came close to opening the scoring with a header, narrowly missing the target. She played a vital role in the middle of the park, providing passing options and dropping deep to receive balls. Engen's defensive contributions were equally impressive, as she won crucial duels for the team. Her stats included 4 out of 5 ground duels won, 2 out of 3 aerial duels won, 1 clearance, 1 interception, 4 tackles, and 2 key passes. Her ability to provide passing options, defensive coverage, and crucial duels won demonstrated her value to the team.
Patri Guijarro: 7.5
Patri Guijarro intercepted balls effectively and worked tirelessly to regain possession for the team in the opposition half. Although she didn't see much of the ball to influence the game significantly, Guijarro held her own in her position. Guijarro's performance was solid, considering her limited time on the ball.
Caroline Graham Hansen: 8
Caroline Graham Hansen dazzled in the forward line, fluidly rotating positions with her teammates. Her beautiful finish opened the scoring, leaving the Madrid CFF goalkeeper with no chance to react. Graham Hansen's creativity shone through with 1 big chance created, 7 out of 18 accurate crosses, 6 key passes, and 1 shot on target.
Alexia Putellas: 7
Alexia Putellas took on the role of the number 9, pressing high relentlessly for the team. Although she missed a couple of chances, her efforts couldn't be faulted. Her header from Aitana's cross was inches away from opening the scoring in the second half. Later in the game, she dropped into midfield.
Claudia Pina: 7.5
Claudia Pina's dynamic presence in the attack was a continuous threat to Madrid CFF. She alternated between left and central positions, posing a continuous goal threat. Her footwork and precise pass assisted in the opening goal scored by Caroline Graham Hansen. Pina's dynamic presence added depth to Barcelona's attack before she was substituted for Mariona Caldentey. Her performance was marked by a solid 1 assist. Substitutes - Mariona Caldentey: Not rated - Mariona played through the left-wing forward position and combined effectively with Ona Batlle on the left wing, although she didn't have many opportunities to impact the game. - Marta Torrejon: Not rated - Marta held her position well but didn't have significant involvement in the game. - Asisat Oshoala: 7.5 - Asisat Oshoala was brought on as a substitute, and she wasted no time in making her presence felt. Within minutes of entering the game, she found the back of the net, scoring a crucial goal to seal the win. - Bruna Vilamala: Not rated - Bruna was brought in late in the game and contributed with her energetic pressing but didn't have much else to do. - Esmee Brugts: Not rated - Esmee made her Barcelona Femeni debut late in the game but had limited involvement. FC Barcelona Femeni began their season on a high note with a 2-0 victory over Madrid CFF. The team displayed resilience and a well-rounded performance, with standout contributions from Ona Batlle and Caroline Graham Hansen. Real Madrid: 2023-24 UEFA Champions League Winners

Tumblr media
Dani Carvajal and Vinícius Júnior scored the goals as Real Madrid overcame a spirited Borussia Dortmund 2-0 to win the 2024 UEFA Champions League final at Wembley Stadium.
Edin Terzić had issued a rallying cry to his Dortmund players before the game, saying: "If we are brave then we're going to have a chance." BVB were more than brave in the first half, they were fearless in the face of the 14-time winners and created a host of chances that should have resulted in a half-time lead.
Early sighters from Federico Valverde and the otherwise well-marshalled Vinícius Júnior were as effective as Los Blancos could be, while Dortmund displayed a far greater cutting edge bar the final finish.
Karim Adeyemi was central to their threat. The winger was only denied by a last-ditch tackle from Dani Carvajal after rounding Thibaut Courtois then tested the Madrid No1 from Julian Brandt's pinpoint through ball, Niclas Füllkrug just unable to nod the rebound back towards goal.
In between, Füllkrug himself had prodded against the post from Ian Maatsen's pass, and the half ended with Courtois again called upon, this time to push Marcel Sabitzer's raking drive wide.
A stern-faced Carlo Ancelotti emerged from the dressing room at half-time still in discussions with the often-overworked Jude Bellingham and Toni Kroos, and the German midfielder, playing his last game for the club, took on added responsibility, calling Gregor Kobel into action for the first time with a whipped free-kick.
Dortmund remained unmoved, focused and positive. Though the contest's equilibrium had been restored, it was BVB who continued to prise the more presentable openings, Courtois standing tall to keep out a stinging Füllkrug header just after the hour mark.
Could Madrid find a way to turn the tide? They always seem to find a way – and this time would be no different. The source was perhaps unexpected, but Carvajal, determined to make history by playing in a joint-record sixth winning team in the final, rose highest to head in Kroos's corner.
Now the fear which Ancelotti had warned his players about before the showpiece was gone. Bellingham and Nacho came so close to adding a second before Vinícius Júnior did, receiving Bellingham's pass and sweeping his finish across Kobel to seal a 15th European crown for Madrid.
Matthias Rötters, Dortmund reporter
After a strong first half from Dortmund, Madrid slowly regained a foothold in the contest. BVB were unable to find an answer to the second-half breakthrough from Carvajal. They looked to have the most successful side in this competition on the back foot at times tonight but, once again, it is the La Liga side who are celebrating.
Graham Hunter, Real Madrid reporter
In the amazing moments which won the semi-final against Bayern, it was German-born Joselu who beat Madrid's Bundesliga rivals. This time, it was a brilliant Mannschaft international Kroos, in his final match for Los Blancos, who crossed for a man, Carvajal, who cut his teeth at Leverkusen, to nod Madrid in front and break the deadlock. And the decisive second goal? Set up by an ex-Dortmund man, Bellingham. There was such a remarkable 'Made in Germany' feel to how Madrid won their fabled '15th'.
Carlo Ancelotti, Madrid coach: "You never get accustomed to this. It was a very difficult, much more so than we thought it would be. In the first half, we had to suffer; in the second half, we lost the ball less and played better – but those are all trifling details now. We won. The dream continues."
Dani Carvajal, Madrid defender and Player of the Match: "We sure know how to suffer but, believe me, I'd love to win these matches more easily. I'd been coming up for corners most of the season. Determination is key to my approach – I'd headed one over and I just knew I had to score the second one!"
Toni Kroos, Madrid midfielder: "The decisive thing was that we didn't concede in the first half. The first half really wasn't good from us. Then we got into the game better and scored the goal. We were fully there and the better team. But it took a long time until we were the better team tonight."
Jude Bellingham, Madrid midfielder: "I've always dreamed of playing in these games. I can't put it into words. It's the best night of my life. It's got to be up there in terms of the perfect season. I can't have dreamed it much better than this. I'm so grateful to my team-mates, my family, the team behind the scenes: the physios, everyone there. This is a massive group effort."
Edin Terzić, Dortmund head coach: "We put in a great display and I think we deserved more than losing 2-0. From the first second, we showed the whole world that we weren't just here simply to play a final – but to win it. We did so many things right, but they were ice-cold at the right moment, which is what we lacked today."
Mats Hummels, Dortmund defender: "We had a great match. I’m super proud of the team for how we presented ourselves here. We played bravely, with heart, and played quality football. We only just missed out on scoring a goal. Real Madrid then strike, as they’ve done many times before."
Ally McCoist, TNT Sports
"You've got to have sympathy for Edin Terzić and the Dortmund boys, who performed exceptionally well. We just knew, at some point, Real Madrid would come back into the game. They got their goal from an unlikely source in Carvajal, and Vinícius Júnior effectively ended the match. Madrid are champions once again for a reason."
Key stats
Madrid have won the European Cup for a record 15th time.
Los Blancos have been successful in each of their nine appearances in the final in the Champions League era.

STARTUPS AND FAILURE
In our advice about getting traffic from search engines I don't think there's an answer. One of the great advantages of being an outsider may be to think about what they plan to do, make something. For example, if you admire two kinds of work. Wozniak's work was a classic example: he did everything himself, hardware and software, and the people running the test really care about is the team. You have to keep pushing, keep selling, all the top five words here would be neutral and would not contribute to the spam probability will hinge on the url, and someone sending you mail for the first time. They usually know other founders, and others where it would just be a distraction. The kind of filters I'm optimistic about are ones that calculate probabilities based on the actual mail he receives. If we wanted to experience what our users did. In filtering, this translates to: look at the origins of successful startups have had that happen.
Planning is often just a weakness forced on those who delegate. 01 graham 0. You don't have to persecute nerds, the very best VCs don't have to read so many spams. Why? Then you want to avoid failure, it would be Fred. Less fortunate startups just end up hiring armies of people to supply each startup with what they need most. Unless you know that free with just two exclamation points has a probability of. You can't expect employers to have some kind of job. I scan the entire text, including headers and embedded html and javascript, of each message in each corpus. I got a little carried away with this is that filtering based on single words to an approach like this. If you wait long enough five years, say you're likely to hit an up cycle where some acquirer is hot to buy you for $10 million, you won't get a share in the excitement, but if so this is a list of US cities sorted by population, the number of successful startups per capita is probably a 20th of what it is in Silicon Valley would feel part of an exalted tradition, like the foundation of a house. Remove them and most people have no idea how much better you can do than the traditional employer-employee relationship, and replacing it with a wireless mouse, but the Internet got me because it became addictive while I was writing about spam filtering.
In the Plan for Spam uses a very simple definition of a token. Two possible theories: a Your housemate did it deliberately to upset you. The main reason they never considered this was that they never imagined we could be had so cheap.1 Then you could, in effect, that if you start scanning people with no symptoms, you'll get into the habit of so many years my idea of work finally broke free from the idea of going on the medical equivalent of what lawyers call a fishing expedition, where you had to be prepared to explain how it's recession-proof is to do exactly what you should do anyway: run it as cheaply as possible. Judging from his books, he was often in doubt. I spent worrying about, but not his charisma, and he suffered proportionally. If you raised five million and ran out of money and b they don't understand, you're hosed. They don't have time to work.2 I thought that I could keep up.
He's probably the nicest VC I know. Some angels are, or were, hackers. Another thing that keeps people away from starting startups is just like everything else. Which is exactly what they're supposed to help or supervise. 01491078 guarantee 0. But I remember thinking his company's name was odd. So most people pre-emptively lower their expectations. But the reason reporters ended up writing stories about this particular truth, rather than working on the product after a funding round. But VCs also share deals a lot. 9998 otherwise. But anyone willing to falsify headers or use open relays, presumably including most porn spammers, should be the highest goal for the marginal. Teaching hackers how to deal with these guys was in high school.
Otherwise we don't care. If you take VC money, you have to make their mails indistinguishable from your ordinary mail. But it's not enough just to tell people that. Don't say, for a while at least, if they could find one who was away half the time it's easier just to do stuff yourself than to get someone else to do as you're doing it wrong.3 They want enough money that a they don't have to persecute nerds, the very best VC funds. Another advantage of bad times is that there's less demand for them among founders.4 No one does that kind of work the recipe is more to be actively curious. About a year ago I noticed a pattern in the least successful startups we'd funded: they all seemed hard to talk to. The obvious solution is to have a cooperatively maintained list of urls promoted by spammers. This is extremely risky, and takes months even if you don't have to work on your projects, he can work wherever he wants on projects of their own are enormously more productive. Founders seem to have been the same kind of aberration, just spread over a longer period, like a nuclear chain reaction. We'll need to do this.
What the people who think they don't need investors to start most companies; they just make it easier. Maybe that's possible, but I haven't seen it. And yet even he had to share it with 6 shrieking tower servers. The reason startups work so well is that everyone with power also has equity. In any purely economic relationship you're free to do what they want. And yet all the adults claim to like what they learn about diet. But he's also their man: these newly installed CEOs always play something of the old Moore's Law back, by writing the smallest subset of it, and we invest so early that investors sometimes need a lot of catches as an eight year old son decides to climb a tall tree, or your daughter gets pregnant, you'll have to deal with this phenomenon. Another thing I may try in the future when you hear people say that you shouldn't major in business in college, but this is actually an instance of a more general rule: don't learn things from teachers who are bad at them. Whatever you make will have to be a startup.5 That may be the greatest effect, in the long run, of the company becoming really big. But most young hackers have neither.6
Notes
Dropbox, or can launch during YC. He had such a brutally simple word is that promising ideas are not merely blurry versions of great ones. Because we want to invest but tried to be closing, not economic inequality—that economic inequality was really only useful for one another directly through the founders of Hewlett Packard said it first, to the World Bank, the fatigue hits you like the difference between being judged as a constituency. Except text editors and compilers.
There is not a big chunk of this type of thinking. That's one of his first acts as president, and an haughty spirit before a dream. Some are merely ugly ducklings in the right thing to do that. You should take more than that.
They say to most people than subsequent millions. Without the prospect of publication, the better. 25.
Wolter, Allan trans, Duns Scotus ca.
Though in fact they were just ordinary guys.
You're going to have done and try selling it. Doh.

N: Is there a fic you wish someone else would write (or finish) for you?
Gosh, yeah. I have a couple of fic ideas floating around in the proverbial hopper that I just don’t think I have the plot/action/adventure writing skills to handle. I’m much better with feelsy, character-driven stuff, so anything that has too much plot in it feels very intimidating to me. There’s one fic idea in particular that I wanted to write for GaaLee Fest last year that’s a “Lee Wins” AU where Gaara loses their chuunin exams match and is badly injured instead. The concept was sort of that jinchuuriki healing is imperfect at best, and so while whatever injuries Gaara sustained during the match would, like, not bleed out or kill him ... I’m not convinced that damaged internal organs would be restored to full function, especially with Gaara’s seal being fucked up and Shukaku being such a blunt instrument. So the idea is that Gaara is left permanently debilitated by the match. And the spin-out from that would be that Gaara isn’t able to participate in the match with Sasuke, and the Konoha Crush can’t move forward because their ultimate weapon is incapacitated. So Orochimaru-as-Rasa would ... probably try to kill him, and to take Shukaku and implant the tailed beast in someone else. Not to mention Gaara would have to grapple with losing for the first time in his life, and Lee also would have to contend with ending someone else’s dream (even though Gaara’s dream isn’t really to be a shinobi). Anyway, there’s a lot that changes if you change something that early in the plot, and I’d need to really comb back through canon and probably re-read a lot of the exams and the Konoha Crush Arc and I’m just ... not up for that at the moment, and I’m not convinced I would be able to make the logical A-to-B-to-C connections from a plot standpoint, even if I could make them from a character standpoint. So I’d love to just ... wave a magic wand and have written it (or have someone else who has the bona fide plot chops to have written it).
R: Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?
Hmm, this is hard. I often go back and re-read favorite stories or favorite handlings of similar tropes before I launch into writing my own take on a trope. I went back and read ‘you can get what you want or you can just get old’ by hyperlight (that’s a BNHA fic btw) before I wrote my own superhero AU, because I loved how they handled the ethics of superheroism. And especially if I’m writing a gift for someone who is also a writer, I’ll go back and read their stuff first to get a feel for their narrative voice and try to incorporate bits of that. So for example, when I was writing ‘A Snowball’s Chance in Hell’ last year for the GaaLee Holiday Exchange, I went back and re-read ‘The Bright Side’ by @gidget-goes to get a sense for their voice and style (because their style is so fun and so off-the-cuff snarky but still has such beautiful imagery). I guess my thought process is people write similar to the stuff they want to read, y’know? And there’s always someone who has done-the-thing better than I can hope to, so I might as well try to catch some of that shine.
If I’m trying to write an AU of a certain canon, too, I’ll go back and read some of that. So, like, I re-read parts of The Goblet of Fire when I was writing ‘Homespun, Heartfelt, and Handmade’ to try to get that feel. Before launching into writing ‘i think we’re haunted’, I re-read a bunch of favorite horror stories, so a couple vignettes from ‘Lullaby’ by Chuck Palahniuk, ‘Modern Coyote’ by Shane Jones, ‘Raphael’ by Stephen Graham Jones, parts of ‘House of Leaves’ by Mark Z. Danielewski, and ‘The Dionaea House’ by Eric Heisserer (which is not a book at all but a web-based text horror of sorts, like an interactive precursor to the modern creepypasta). The stories that are quoted at the header of each chapter actually made up a big part of the inspiration for that fic. Plus I’d never written horror before, so I wanted to get a sense of the pacing.
There are a lot of non-fanfic authors I like, but that I can’t say I’ve tried to crib styles off of them, necessarily. I do tend to read things that are similar in feel to what I like to write, so more character-driven than plot-driven. I love Maggie Stiefvater’s The Raven Cycle, but I could never properly emulate anything she does. I really like anything that has that magical realism feel, so Helen Oyeyemi, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Jorge Luis Borges are some favorites. And I prefer short stories over novels. My favorite short story ever is ‘Story of your Life’ by Ted Chiang, but I could never, ever, ever hope to replicate the genius of that concept, and it’s a plot reveal that’s only really effective once.
T: Any fandom tropes you can’t stand?

Definitely sex in this one.
Read it on AO3
The Royal Bedchamber that his consort had mentioned in his message was not Zhenya’s bedroom, nor was it the Consort’s. Their respective rooms were almost next to each other, but not quite -- between them, and with a door leading to each, was the so-called Royal Bedchamber, which was used only during embargo for intimate relations. Once the Consort had conceived and the embargo was lifted, any intimacy they chose to engage in would take place in either of their own rooms.
Zhenya showered, scrubbing himself well. This was the first time he’d really be having relations with his husband -- the ritualized consummation during the wedding hardly counted. It was rare for sex between embargoed partners to reach the level of passionate lovemaking, but they could be more relaxed with each other, and enjoy a more personal experience, than they could do with a cleric standing over them.
The best part, though, was that even though Zhenya would still not see his husband’s face or even most of his body, he would definitely get to see his cock, and he was looking forward to it.
He suspected that his new husband was a man who appreciated punctuality, so he waited until precisely 3:00 pm, then opened the door into the bedchamber.
The consort was sitting on the large, low bed that was the main piece of furniture in the room. He’d changed out of the black drapings he’d been wearing earlier in the garden and into lighter, flesh-toned veils that still concealed him while being a little less forbidding. They covered him only to the middle of his chest and were entirely opaque; Zhenya wondered, not for the first time, how the consort could see through them. He straightened up as Zhenya entered. Sitting there on the bed with his legs folded under him, perked up at attention, the man looked like an eager schoolchild waiting to be called on. His consort had yet to speak a single word to him, but Zhenya was utterly charmed.
Zhenya shut the door behind him and lurked there for a moment, not quite sure how, exactly, to approach having sex with this man. Should he just climb aboard and go to it? Seemed so abrupt, and borderline rude. There was no need for pretense  -- they both knew why they were here -- but that didn’t seem like any reason to abandon all niceties, just because they couldn’t make small talk or kiss.
His consort seemed to sense his hesitation -- he took a breath, unfolded his legs, stretched out and...well, there was no other way to put it...displayed himself.
Zhenya’s breath caught. His husband -- it still felt new and strange to even think the word --  was toned and muscular, with magnificent thighs and a narrow waist, the V of his hips drawing Zhenya’s gaze to his impressive cock, sizable even in its flaccid state. Zhenya couldn’t see the man’s face, but he knew that the consort was watching him.
Zhenya slipped out of his dressing gown, revealing his own nudity. His cock was filling rapidly; his balls felt heavy beneath it, as if the task he was here to accomplish weighed upon them. He let his eyes roam up his consort’s strong legs and hips, and all at once he knew what he wanted.
He stepped to the foot of the bed and made a “turn over” motion with one hand. The consort rolled over, keeping his drapings carefully in place, and Zhenya’s cock plumped further at the sight of him. He knelt on the bed and slid his hands to his consort’s hips, urging him up to his knees. Free now to do so, he palmed the smooth, muscled globes, slipping his thumbs between them. The consort arched his back and pressed into Zhenya’s touch in a silent urge to keep going.
Zhenya parted his cheeks, exposing his hole, and then swiftly buried his face there, swiping his tongue up the center with a low growl. He’d wanted to eat this ass since he’d first laid eyes on it, and the reality was even better than his fantasy. The consort smelled clean and masculine, electric like the scent that rose from the earth after a thunderstorm, and Zhenya felt him jump and shudder at the sudden contact. He slipped off his hands where he’d braced on them and sank down to rest on his elbows, dipping his back lower and pressing his ass into Zhenya’s face.
Zhenya relished in the breathy gasps he was wringing from his mate as he worked him over with his mouth. The consort’s cock hung heavy and hard now between his thighs, dripping; Zhenya reached up and stroked it in time with the thrusts of his tongue. He could feel his consort’s pussy getting slick as well; he dipped his tongue lower to swipe across it, drawing a deeper shudder. His own arousal was cresting; he might come without even a hand to himself at this rate, and he had a job to do.
He left off his attentions and knelt up behind his husband, who read the change and moved to spread his thighs and present himself. Zhenya grasped his hips and mounted him quickly, not wanting to finish prematurely and cause an awkward delay while he worked back up to hardness. The consort met his thrusts eagerly, his erection still bobbing free; Zhenya wanted to hang on long enough to bring him to completion as well. He grasped his husband’s cock again and stroked him, keeping a rhythm he hoped would be pleasing; evidently it was, for after only a few strokes the consort stiffened and came over Zhenya’s hand, his passage pulsing and clenching and drawing Zhenya’s orgasm from him. He thrust deep and came hard into his husband’s body, visualizing again a successful conception.
As they both came down, breathing deeply in counterpoint, Zhenya withdrew and collapsed onto his back at the consort’s side. His mate stayed where he was for a moment, then he rolled to his back and tucked his legs close to his chest, wrapping his arms around them. Zhenya recognized this as a superstitious posture to maximize the chances of conception. He had his doubts about its effectiveness, but it wasn’t his place to judge his consort’s habits, or his superstitions. What was the harm? After a few minutes during which Zhenya looked his fill at his husband’s fine body while he was otherwise occupied, the consort uncurled himself and rose. He turned to face Zhenya, put his hand to his chest and gave him a little bow, then quickly left the room. Zhenya lingered for a moment, enjoying the lazy post-sex lassitude, before he began to feel self-conscious and retreated to his own chamber to clean up and dress before dinner.
------
Zhenya was restless that night. He hadn’t eaten much at dinner, so distracted had he been by thoughts of the surprisingly good sex he’d had with his new husband, not to mention everyone’s endless teasing about his newlywed status. His consort had not been present; it was nearly impossible for embargoed spouses to share meals given the drapings and veils required, not to mention the restriction on both of their speech, so consorts typically ate privately, in the company of their own guards and attendants where they would be allowed to remove their veils. In fact, Zhenya hadn’t seen his consort all evening, and would very likely not see him again until the next day’s 3:00 appointment.
He wondered how many of those appointments they would have. Their wedding would have been scheduled to coincide with his consort’s most receptive time, which would last for as long as a week, but after that the odds of conception were low. The usual custom was that relations took place only if both parties desired them to, until the next cycle of fertility came around. His consort had seemed to enjoy their appointment today, but would he wish to continue when his chances of conceiving dropped? Zhenya would leave that decision to him.
Dammit. Now he was restless and hungry. He glanced at the clock -- after midnight. The kitchens would be deserted.
He rose and put on slippers and his dressing gown and snuck down the back staircase to the kitchen.
Which...was not deserted.
Sitting at the long stainless-steel prep table, holding a large bowl of ice cream and spoon frozen halfway to his mouth, staring at Zhenya with wide, surprised eyes, was one of his consort’s guards, the one he’d noticed earlier with the bow legs and the handsome face. As Zhenya watched, a dribble of ice cream slid from the corner of his mouth and fell to the spotless tabletop. He looked like a child, caught stealing sweets from the cupboard.
“Well, you’re caught,” Zhenya said. “Off to the gallows with you.”
The man seemed to remember himself. He dropped the bowl and spoon with a clatter and jumped to his feet, saluting smartly -- it looked odd on a man clad in a threadbare t--shirt and loose sleeping pants. “Your Royal Highness, my apologies. I…”
“At ease,” Zhenya said, flapping a hand. “I just came down for a late night snack myself. Looks like you had the same idea.” He went to the cabinet, in search of the graham cookies that were his favorite. “Ah ha,” he said, pulling out a tin. He poured some milk and joined his mystery guest at the island. The guard had resumed his ice cream binge. Zhenya peered over. “What flavor is that?”
The guard licked his lips. “Butter pecan.”
“Mmm. My favorite.”
“Mine, too.” He looked down at his bowl of ice cream, then cleared his throat. “Sir, I really do apologize. I’m…”
“Never mind. You don’t report to me, right? We’re...colleagues. If anything. Besides, I’d be a fool not to make friends with one of the men who guards my husband.”
The guard tilted his head to the side with a shrug, a “that’s a good point” sort of gesture. He thought for a moment, then stuck out his hand. “I’m Sidney,” he said.
Zhenya shook it. “Call me Zhenya.”
“Hoo, I don’t know if I can do that.”
“How about just here in the kitchen, and only after midnight?”
“I’ll try.”
Zhenya ate two cookies and washed them down with milk. “Have you been guarding His Highness for long?”
Sidney swallowed. “I’m new. Transferred into the Consort’s detail from the Prime Minister’s.”
“So you transfer in and immediately get stationed halfway across the world?”
This statement was met with a blank look. “That’s why I transferred. I wanted to come. See another place, experience a different kind of life. I’d never left New Scotland before, so when the Earl -- sorry, the Consort -- asked me if I’d like to join his guard, I said yes.”
Zhenya wondered if this new guard would be more amenable to divulging intelligence than his captain was. The consort might be dedicated to the integrity of the embargo, but Zhenya wasn’t above a little snooping. “So you don’t know the Consort very well yet?”
“No, I’ve known him since we were kids. I just never guarded him before.”
“He seems like a good man.”
“That’s not for me to judge.” He hesitated. “But that’s what’s said of him.”
“What does he look like?”
A smirk spread over Sidney’s mouth. “You know I’m not supposed to talk to you about him like that. The embargo and all.”
“Is he handsome? Tell me that much.”
Sidney flushed a little and looked away. Zhenya wondered why he’d find that question embarrassing. “He’s...often told that he is.”
“Hmm. Well, I hope I’ll get to see for myself.”
“I’m sure he does, too.”
“His mother said he had a lot of marriage proposals.”
Sidney snorted. “Yeah. Most of them boring as shit, or rich people who wanted a spouse with a title.”
“You knew who’d proposed to him?”
“Everyone talked about it. Heck, people were laying bets on who he’d accept.”
“What were my odds?”
Sidney grinned. “Even. Best odds in the pool. I told him he should bet on one of the long shots then pick him, take the money and run off to the country.”
“Not a bad plan.”
He shrugged. “He’s the one who has to marry the guy.” He blinked, hearing what he’d just said. “Sorry. That wasn’t...I didn’t mean to insult you. I’m glad he picked you.”
“No insult taken.” Zhenya ate another cookie. “I hope he’s glad, too.”
Sidney smiled. “Yeah. I think he is.”

An Analysis of VICE News
VICE news is an independent news organization that is syndicated through HBO and also has its own TV station and magazine. VICE focuses on anything from politics, foreign affairs, entertainment, to food and travel. VICE is a more left leaning organization that targets a younger audience but also excels in producing quality documentaries and in depth investigative reporting.
Part 1: Front page
A.) Title-  The VICE title on the front page of the website is a medium size and takes up less than 20% of the header, not being incredibly large and not being to small. Located in the top left of the page the font is what grabs the readers’ attention. The word “VICE” is written in whiten graffiti style font while the word “News” is written in plain bold black. This font i think represent the kind of reader that might be interested in VICE News, someone who is younger and not necessarily traditional by older generation standards, but someone who also stills wants access to honest news.
B.) Headline-The headline when i started this project was from the policing section of the site and the headline article was titled “Seattle Police think they found a way to fight “swatters” as soon as they call 911″ VICE has a policing section of their paper because to young people being carrying of how the police conduct themselves is a very important thing.  VICE is often very critical of police when they are in the headlines making it a more left leaning publication.  I believe however that this particular story was on the top of the page was because it was the day after the Kavanaugh hearing and i believe VICE was trying to break up some of the over saturation of stories surrounding the hearing.
C.) Stories- There are about four main articles on the front page of the site. One about policing, one about drugs, and two stories about Kavanaugh with one having about five sub articles on the same subject linked to it. I would say their ratio of good to bad stories is about 25% good, 50% bad, and 25% just neutral. The policing story was more positive about how the policing are become more effective in fighting false calls, but the Kavanaugh stories were all negative and about how poorly Kavanaugh conducted himself at the hearing or how poorly president trump reacted.
D.) Photos/Graphics- The background colors of the site are very plain being most white and sometimes black. There are however large very well taken photographs for most of the articles or entertaining gif images.
E.) Sources- The articles on VICE all come from VICE writers. Being an indecent need organization VICE acts as their own source is not reliant on other networks to pass news along and can report their stories however they see fit not having to answer to a larger media company as a subsidiary.
F.) Sections- VICE has a topics list on their site that changes depending on whats being covered on that days article or on the VICE tv show. The topics at the time of my research included Donald Trump, Immigration, Drugs, and Features. Today Donald Trump was at the top of the list because VICE is usually very critical of Trump and Trump gave them lots of ammo after his responses to the Kavanaugh hearings.
G.) Ads- The laptop version of the VICE website actually had no ads but when i opened the site on my phone i did see a few. Most of the ads were for local law firms for personal injury or for human rights, and one ad was for an online clothing outlet. Most of the VICE readers are involved in social justice so for a human rights law firm to advertise in VICE makes sense.
H.) Ownership- Besides being partially owned by disney VICE is indecently owned being started by parent company VICE Media, founded by Shane Smith who start VICE originally as a magazine and eventually evolved it into a Tv network and news station.
I.) Fact article- “The Accused: The 84 cases that defined #metoo”. this article is an in-depth factual list on some of the most high profile sexual assualt cases of thew #metoo movement.
Opinion Article- “Experts can’t agree on whether Bert and Ernie have sex with each other or not”. This is an opinion article on whether or not the characters on the kids show Sesame Street are actually gay. This is opinion because well Bert and Ernie are not real people and don't have a sexual preference, so labeling them gay or straight is a matter of opinion.
J.) VICE tries to be bipartisan but for the most part is more a more left leaning publication. It was very much critical of Kavanaugh and the GOP senator that supported him. For example heres a quote form the article “Lindsey Graham’s plan if Kavanaugh fails? Just Nominate him again”
“ “I belive Judge Kavanaugh will be confirmed to the supreme court very soon” Graham said in a news release. “However if his nomination were to fall short, I would encourage President Trump to re-nominate Judge Kavanaugh to the supreme court. It would in effect be appealing the senate’s verdict directly to the American People.””
K & L.) Thesis & Eliciting Emotion-  in the article “The Accused: the 84 Cases that defined the first year of #metoo the thesis is driven home by facts that elicit an emotional response.
Thesis - “Kavanaugh is just the latest powerful man forced to defend his conduct. In the year since Harvey Weinstein’s downfall, more the 200 people holding prominent positions in business, tech, media, and Hollywood- including VICE Media itself- have been accused of sexual misconduct.” The thesis is further supported by a list of 84 of the cases from the past year that also serves to evoke an emotional response from the reader. I also commend VICE for calling itself out by acknowledging member of its organization were involved in these accusations.
Conclusion- Though VICE news is not fully bipartisan and leans left i do believe the indecent nature of VICE Media allows VICE News to operate in a way that brings more truth to the viewer. The independent nature does allow for some silly option pieces like Whether or not Bert and Ernie bang each other but for the most part VICE offers excellent and very honest and in depth reporting that is not handicapped by parent companies or advertisements.

Improving Video Accessibility with WebVTT
"The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect." - Tim Berners-Lee
Accessibility is an important element of web development, and with the ever-growing prevalence of video content, the necessity for captioned content is growing as well. WebVTT is a technology that solves helps with captioned content as a subtitle format that integrates easily with already-existing web APIs.
That’s what we’re going to look at here in this article. Sure, WebVTT is captioning at its most basic, but there are ways to implement it to make videos (and the captioned content itself) more accessible for users.
See the Pen VJJMZz by Geoff Graham (@geoffgraham) on CodePen.
Hi, meet the WebVTT format
First and foremost: WebVTT is a type of file that contains the text "WebVTT" and lines of captions with timestamps. Here’s an example:
WEBVTT 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.000 - [Birds chirping] - It's a beautiful day! 00:00:04.000 --> 00:00:07.000 - [Creek trickling] - It is indeed! 00:00:08.000 --> 00:00:10.000 - Hello there!
A little weird, but makes pretty good sense, right? As you can see, the first line is "WEBVTT" and it is followed by a time range (in this case, 0 to 3 seconds) on Line 3. The time range is required. Otherwise, the WEBVTT file will not work at all and it won’t even display or log errors to let you know. Finally, each line below a time range represents captions contained in the range.
Note that you can have multiple captions in a single time range. Hyphens may be used to indicate the start of a line, though it’s not required and more stylistic than anything else.
The time range can be one of two formats: hh:mm:ss.tt or mm:ss.tt. Each part follows certain rules:
Hours (hh): Minimum of two digits
Minutes (mm): Between 00 and 59, inclusive
Seconds (ss): Between 00 and 59, inclusive
Milliseconds (tt): Between 000 and 999, inclusive
This may seem rather daunting at first. You’re probably wondering how anyone can be expected to type and tweak this all by hand. Luckily, there are tools to make this easier. For example, YouTube can automatically caption videos for you with speech recognition in addition to allowing you to download the caption as a VTT file as well! But that’s not it. WebVTT can also be used with YouTube as well by uploading your VTT file to your YouTube video.
Once we have this file created, we can then embed it into an HTML5 video element.
<!DOCTYPE HTML> <html> <body> <video controls autoplay> <source src="your_video.mp4" type="video/mp4"/> <track default kind="captions" srclang="en" label="English" src="your_caption_file.vtt"/> </video> </body> </html>
The <track> tag is sort of like a script that "plays" along with the video. We can use multiple tracks in the same video element. The default attribute indicates that a the track will be enabled automatically.
Let’s run down all the <track> attributes while we’re at it:
srclang indicates what language the track is in.
kind represents the type of track it is and there are five kinds:
subtitles are usually translations and descriptions of different parts of a video.
descriptions help unsighted users understand what is happening in a video.
captions provide un-hearing users an alternative to audio.
metadata is a track that is used by scripts and cannot be seen by users.
chapters assist in navigating video content.
label is a title for the text track that appears in the caption track
src is the source file for the track. It cannot come from a cross-origin source unless crossorigin is specified.
While WebVTT is designed specifically for video, you can still use it with audio by placing an audio file within a <video> element.
Digging into the structure of a WebVTT file
MDN has great documentation and outlines the body structure of a WebVTT file, which consists of up to six components. Here’s how MDN breaks it down:
An optional byte order mark (BOM)
The string "WEBVTT"
An optional text header to the right of WEBVTT.
There must be at least one space after WEBVTT.
You could use this to add a description to the file.
You may use anything in the text header except newlines or the string "-->".
A blank line, which is equivalent to two consecutive newlines.
Zero or more cues or comments.
Zero or more blank lines.
Note: a BOM is a unicode character that indicates the unicode encoding of the text file.
Bold, italic, and underline — oh my!
We can absolutely use some inline HTML formatting in WebVTT files! These are the ones that everyone is familiar with: <b>, <i>, and <u>. You use them exactly as you would in HTML.
WEBVTT 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.000 align:start This is bold text 00:00:03.000 --> 00:00:06.000 align:middle This is italic text 00:00:06.000 --> 00:00:09.000 vertical:rl align:middle This is <u>underlined text</u>
Cue settings
Cue settings are optional strings of text used to control the position of a caption. It’s sort of like positioning elements in CSS, like being able to place captions on the video.
For example, we could place captions to the right of a cue timing, control whether a caption is displayed horizontally or vertically, and define both the alignment and vertical position of the caption.
Here are the settings that are available to us.
Setting 1: Line
line controls the positioning of the caption on the y-axis. If vertical is specified (which we’ll look at next), then line will instead indicate where the caption will be displayed on the x-axis.
When specifying the line value, integers and percentages are perfectly acceptable units. In the case of using an integer, the distance per line will be equal to the height (from a horizontal perspective) of the first line. So, for example, let’s say the height of the first line of the caption is equal to 50px, the line value specified is 2, and the caption’s direction is horizontal. That means the caption will be positioned 100px (50px times 2) down from the top, up to a maximum equal to coordinates of the boundaries of the video. If we use a negative integer, it will move upward from the bottom as the value decreases (or, in the case of vertical:lr being specified, we will move from right-to-left and vice-versa). Be careful here, as it’s possible to position the captions off-screen in addition to the positioning being inconsistent across browsers. With great power comes great responsibility!
In the case of a percentage, the value must be between 0-100%, inclusive (sorry, no 200% mega values here). Higher values will move the caption from top-to-bottom, unless vertical:lr or vertical:rl is specified, in which case the caption will move along the x-axis accordingly.
As the value increases, the caption will appear further down the video boundaries. As the value decreases (including into the negatives), the caption will appear further up.
Tough picture this without examples, right? Here’s how this translates into code:
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.000 line:50% This caption should be positioned horizontally in the approximate center of the screen.
Tumblr media
00:00:03.000 --> 00:00:06.000 vertical:lr line:50% This caption should be positioned vertically in the approximate center of the screen.
Tumblr media
00:00:06.000 --> 00:00:09.000 vertical:rl line:-1 This caption should be positioned vertically along the left side of the video.
Tumblr media
00:00:09.000 --> 00:00:12.000 line:0 The caption should be positioned horizontally at the top of the screen.
Tumblr media
Setting 2: Vertical
vertical indicates the caption will be displayed vertically and move in the direction specified by the line setting. Some languages are not displayed left-to-right and instead need a top-to-bottom display.
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.000 vertical:rl This caption should be vertical.
Tumblr media
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.000 vertical:lr This caption should be vertical.
Tumblr media
Setting 3: Position
position specifies where the caption will be displayed along the x-axis. If vertical is specified, the position will instead specify where the caption will be displayed on the y-axis. It must be an integer value between 0% and 100%, inclusive.
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.000 vertical:rl position:100% This caption will be vertical and toward the bottom. 00:00:03.000 --> 00:00:06.000 vertical:rl position:0% This caption will be vertical and toward the top.
At this point, you may notice that line and position are similar to the CSS flexbox properties for align-items and justify-content, and that vertical behaves a lot like flex-direction. A trick for remembering WebVTT directions is that line specifies a position perpendicular to the flow of the text, whereas position specifies the position parallel to the flow of the text. That’s why line suddenly moves along the horizontal axis, and position moves along the vertical axis if we specify vertical.
Setting 4: Size
size specifies the width of the caption. If vertical is specified, then it will set the height of the caption instead. Like other settings, it must be an integer between 0% and 100%, inclusive.
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.000 vertical:rl size:50% This caption will fill half the screen vertically.
Tumblr media
00:00:03.000 --> 00:00:06.000 position:0% This caption will fill the entire screen horizontally.
Tumblr media
Setting 5: Align
align specifies where the text will appear horizontally. If vertical is specified, then it will control the vertical alignment instead.
The values we’ve got are: start, middle, end, left and right. Without vertical specified, the alignments are exactly what they sound like. If vertical is specified, they effectively become top, middle (vertically), and bottom. Using start and end as opposed to left and right, respectively, is a more flexible way of allowing the alignment to be based on the unicode-bidi CSS property’s plaintext value.
Note that align is not unaffected by vertical:lr or vertical:rl.
WEBVTT 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.000 align:start This caption will be on the left side of the screen. 00:00:03.000 --> 00:00:06.000 align:middle This caption will be horizontally in the middle of the screen. 00:00:06.000 --> 00:00:09.000 vertical:rl align:middle This caption will be vertically in the middle of the screen. 00:00:09.000 --> 00:00:12.000 vertical:rl align:end This caption will be vertically at the bottom right of the screen regardless of vertical:lr or vertical:rl orientation. 00:00:12.000 --> 00:00:15.000 vertical:lr align:end This caption will be vertically at the bottom of the screen, regardless of the vertical:lr or vertical:rl orientation. 00:00:12.000 --> 00:00:15.000 align:left This caption will appear on the left side of the screen. 00:00:12.000 --> 00:00:15.000 align:right This caption will appear on the right side of the screen.
WebVTT Comments
WebVTT comments are strings of text that are only visible when reading the source text of the file, the same way we think of comments in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and any other language. Comments may contain a new line, but not a blank line (which is essentially two new lines).
WEBVTT 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.000 - [Birds chirping] - It's a beautiful day! NOTE This is a comment. It will not be visible to anyone viewing the caption. 00:00:04.000 --> 00:00:07.000 - [Creek trickling] - It is indeed! 00:00:08.000 --> 00:00:10.000 - Hello there!
When the caption file is parsed and rendered, the highlighted line above will be completely hidden from users. Comments can be multi-line as well.
There are three very important characters/strings to take note of that may not be used in comments: <, &, and -->. As an alternative, you can use escaped characters instead.
Not Allowed Alternative NOTE PB&J NOTE PB&J NOTE 5 < 7 NOTE 5 < 7 NOTE puppy --> dog NOTE puppy --> do
A few other interesting WebVTT features
We’re going to take a quick look at some really neat ways we can customize and control captions, but that are lacking consistent browser support, at least at the time of this writing.
Yes, we can style captions!
WebVTT captions can, in fact, be styled. For example, to style the background of a caption to be red, set the background property on the ::cue pseudo-element:
video::cue { background: red; }
Remember how we can use some inline HTML formatting in the WebVTT file? Well, we can select those as well. For example, to select and italic (<i>) element:
video::cue(i) { color: yellow; }
Turns out WebVTT files support a style block, a lot like the way HTML files do:
WEBVTT STYLE ::cue { color: blue; font-family: "Source Sans Pro", sans-serif; }
Elements can also be accessed via their cue identifiers. Note that cue identifiers use the same escaping mechanism as HTML.
WEBVTT STYLE ::cue(#middle\ cue\ identifier) { text-decoration: underline; } ::cue(#cue\ identifier\ \33) { font-weight: bold; color: red; } first cue identifier 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:02.000 Hello, world! middle cue identifier 00:00:02.000 --> 00:00:04.000 This cue identifier will have an underline! cue identifier 3 00:00:04.000 --> 00:00:06.000 This one won't be affected, just like the first one!
Different types of tags
Many tags can be used to format captions. There is a caveat. These tags cannot be used in a <track> element where kind attribute is chapters. Here are some formatting tags you can use.
The class tag
We can define classes in the WebVTT markup using a class tag that can be selected with CSS. Let’s say we have a class, .yellowish that makes text yellow. We can use the tag <c.yellowish> in a caption. We can control lots of styling this way, like the font, the font color, and background color.
/* Our CSS file */ .yellowish { color: yellow; } .redcolor { color: red; }
WEBVTT 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.000 <c.yellowish>This text should be yellow.</c> This text will be the default color. 00:00:03.000 --> 00:00:06.000 <c.redcolor>This text should be red.</c> This text will be the default color.
The timestamp tag
If you want to make captions appear at specific times, then you will want to use timestamp tags. They’re like fine-tuning captions to exact moments in time. The tag’s time must be within the given time range of the caption, and each timestamp tag must be later than the previous.
WEBVTT 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:07.000 This <00:00:01.000>text <00:00:02.000>will <00:00:03.000>appear <00:00:04.000>over <00:00:05.000>6 <00:00:06.000>seconds.
The voice tag
Voice tags are neat in that they help identify who is speaking.
WEBVTT 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.000 <v Alice>How was your day, Bob? 00:00:03.000 --> 00:00:06.000 <v Bob>Great, yours?
The ruby tag
The ruby tag is a way to display small, annotative characters above the caption.
WEBVTT 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:05.000 <ruby>This caption will have text above it<rt>This text will appear above the caption.
Conclusion
And that about wraps it up for WebVTT! It’s an extremely useful technology and presents an opportunity to improve your site’s accessibility a great deal, particularly if you are working with video. Try some of your own captions out yourself to get a better feel for it!

FBI kept using Steele dossier for FISA renewals despite ‘extreme bias’
The FBI formally documented the apparent anti-Trump bias of British ex-spy Christopher Steele shortly after the November 2016 presidential election — yet despite the red flags, continued to use his unverified dossier in multiple Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court warrant application renewals, records obtained by Fox News show.
The partially redacted documents, first obtained by Judicial Watch, also revealed that top Justice Department official Bruce Ohr maintained contact with Steele for at least six months after Steele was fired by the FBI for unauthorized media contacts in November 2016. The records further confirmed that Ohr knew of Steele’s anti-Trump bias before the 2016 election.
“This is just the tip of the iceberg,” Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told Fox News’ “Hannity” Thursday evening.
“I know personally there’s a lot more out there.”
The summaries of FBI interviews with Ohr, known as 302s, indicated that Ohr knew by September 2016 — a month before the initial FISA application to surveil the Trump campaign — that an individual with links to the dossier was “desperate that Donald Trump not get elected and was passionate about him not being the US President.”
“Ohr believes [redacted] wanted to blunt or foil the Kremlin’s plans,” the FBI document continued, while recounting claims pushed by Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm behind the dossier that was funded by the Hillary Clinton campaign and Democratic National Committee (DNC).
A source close to the matter told Fox News that “this had the effect of putting a senior DOJ official on notice that a witness/source had an extreme bias.”
Just nine days before the FBI applied for its FISA warrant, bureau officials were battling with a senior Justice Department official who had “continued concerns” about the “possible bias” of a source pivotal to the application, according to internal FBI text messages previously obtained by Fox News.
Nevertheless, the FISA warrant application went through in October 2016 with multiple renewals. While the FISA records are heavily redacted, it does not appear that the FBI’s documentation about Steele’s bias was ever shared with the FISA court.
Proceedings before FISA courts are ex parte, meaning defendants are not aware of them or able to attend in any capacity. The FBI has a legal and procedural obligation to reveal exculpatory evidence to the FISA court on its own.
However, on four occasions, the FBI told the FISA court that it “did not believe” Steele was the direct source for a Yahoo News article written by Michael Isikoff implicating former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser Carter Page in alleged collusion with Russian officials.
While FBI told the FISA court that the Yahoo article constituted independent evidence to support Steele’s claims, the 302s showed that by November 2016 — before several FISA warrant renewals — the FBI had made the connection between Steele and the Yahoo News article.
According to the FBI documents, Ohr apparently met with Steele in Washington, DC in late September, “possibly close to the time when the Yahoo news article was published on September 23, 2016.”
The FBI materials indicate that Glenn Simpson, the co-founder of Fusion GPS and Steele “could have met with Yahoo or Michael Isikoff jointly, but Ohr does not know if they did.”.
It is not clear from the interviews whether Ohr made the connection between Steele and the Yahoo article, or the interviewing agents did.
London court records have shown that contrary to the FBI’s assessments, Steele briefed Yahoo News and other reporters in the fall of 2016 at the direction of Fusion GPS.
The 22 pages of reports on interviews with Ohr also revealed his extensive contacts with Steele. The two communicated on the encrypted messaging app “WhatsApp,” according to the records.
“On January 27, 2017, Ohr received a WhatsApp notification from Christopher Steele indicating [redacted] and Steele would like to keep the line of communication open with Ohr for future contact. Ohr replied in the affirmative,” the documents state.
Curiously, Ohr also told the FBI that he thought “Russian oligarchs will provide information to the FBI because in Russia everyone talks to the police.”
The FBI documents showed Ohr’s contacts with Steele extended through May 2017, when Special Counsel Robert Mueller was appointed. Ohr then became a kind of backchannel linking Steele to the FBI after his termination.
House Oversight Committee ranking member Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told Fox News’ “Hannity” late Thursday: “Why do you terminate your direct relationship with Christopher Steele and then encourage a top Justice Department official to keep meeting with him and then coming and briefing you about each of those meetings and conversations?”
“Seems to me you’re trying to hide something when you do that,” Jordan continued, adding that the 302s showed that some at the bureau were seeking to take out Trump.
In November 2016, Ohr said that “reporting on Trump’s ties to Russia [was] going to the Clinton Campaign, Jon Winer at the US State Department and the FBI.”
And in December 2016, Simpson gave Ohr a thumb drive with Fusion GPS research, according to the documents and said former Trump attorney Michael Cohen may have visited Prague.
Mueller was unable to substantiate the incendiary claim in the dossier that Cohen traveled to Prague as part of a conspiracy with Russian hackers.
Numerous other problems with the Steele dossier’s reliability have surfaced, including that Mueller also was unable to substantiate the dossier’s claims that Page had received a large payment relating to the sale of a share of Rosneft, a Russian oil giant.
The dossier’s claims that Russia was running a disinformation campaign through its nonexistent consulate in Miami also proved unfounded.
Even so, the dossier was repeatedly cited by both the FBI and media reports as a primary reason to continue investigating the Trump team’s ties with Russia.
All the while, Ohr, Steele and the FBI remained connected. On Dec. 20, 2016, the documents show, Ohr gave the FBI opposition research conducted by his wife Nellie Ohr at Fusion GPS, “which contained the totality” of her efforts — “but the Fusion GPS header was stripped.”
Simpson has been accused of giving “extremely misleading” testimony to Congress concerning the dossier during closed-door remarks in August 2017.
“This new Bruce Ohr FBI 302s show an unprecedented and irregular effort by the FBI, DOJ and State Department to dig up dirt on President Trump using the conflicted Bruce Ohr, his wife and the Clinton/DNC spies at Fusion GPS,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement.
“The FISA courts weren’t informed of this corrupted process when they were asked to approve and reapprove extraordinary spy warrants targeting President Trump,” Fitton added.

final match of the season.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the last few weeks of the season, although it was a pretty tense experience,” he said.
Former Bournemouth manager Bond has been a long-time colleague of Harry Redknapp, working under him at Portsmouth, Southampton, Spurs and QPR.
offered boss Graham Potter a new contract as they bid to fend off interest from Brighton.
The Seagulls have targeted Potter, 43, having sacked Chris Hughton on Monday.
But Swansea are desperate to keep their manager and hope an improved deal will convince him to stay even though he is odds-on favourite for the Brighton job.
parted with boss Tony Pulis, after this season’s failure to win promotion to the Premier League.
The club announced that the 61-year-old’s contract, which was reported to end this summer, would not be extended.
Pulis, who took over in December 2017, led Boro to the play-off semi-finals last season but lost to Aston Villa.
Missing out on promotion will have a knock-on effect on Middlesbrough’s finances for 2019-20, with their their two-year run of parachute payments from the Premier League coming to an end.

After just two minutes the tie looked all but over but Doncaster played their way into the half and you wouldn’t bet against them winning the game tonight.
Tommy Rowe’s low strike cancelled out Krystian Bielik’s early header for Charlton, leaving the Addicks 3-2 up on aggregate going into the second half.

Charlton 1-1 Doncaster (3-2 agg)
Does that strike a Doncaster arm in the box?
Lyle Taylor and Anfernee Dijksteel link-up down the right and the ball comes across for Josh Cullen, whose shot comes off Andy Butler’s chest and onto his hand.

Charlton 1-1 Doncaster (3-2 agg)
Just to give you an idea of Doncaster’s ambition, left-back Danny Andrew is the furthest man forward to head wide from Malik Wilks’ deep cross.
Rovers are playing a 4-3-3 but it’s very fluid, and probably just about getting the better of Charlton right now.

PENALTY APPEAL
Charlton 1-1 Doncaster (3-2 agg)
Lyle Taylor and the Charlton faithful want a penalty as the striker goes down under a challenge from Doncaster’s Andy Butler.
It’s a clever run from Taylor to get on the end of a deep free-kick but Butler does very little wrong and the ref rightly waves the protests away.

Charlton 1-1 Doncaster (3-2 agg)
Doncaster finished the regular League One season 12 points behind any of the other play-off sides and many – including myself – wondered if they could compete in these games.
But Grant McCann now has them playing at a high intensity, after a very shaky start.
Charlton are having moments but the combination play isn’t quite coming off for them.
