Queer Star Wars Characters (Round 1): General Bracket Match 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Grandfer Aurin | Identity: nonbinary | Media: The High Republic Phase II
Grandfer Aurin was a non-binary Umbaran resident of Dalna who appears briefly in Path of Deceit and Path of Vengeance. They sold droid parts in the market, and while not a member of the Path of the Open Hand, they were friendly with Marda Ro. However, when Marda returns to the market in Path of Vengeance, they are a lot more uncertain about the Path and more cold to Marda.
Santari Khri | Identity: nonbinary (she/they) | Media: Jedi Survivor
Santari Khri was a Jedi during the High Republic who appears in visions in Jedi Survivor. The presumptive Marshall of Koboh, they designed the puzzle shrines on the planet and were involved in the research into the Koboh Abyss occurring on the planet and moon. She was a close friend of Dagan Gera, but when Dagan wanted to travel to Tannallor in defiance of the council’s orders, she was forced to cut off his arm. However, despite his treason, they ordered him to be placed into a bacta tank. They likely survived the Emergence of Koboh and went on to help defeat the Nihil.
Database entries refer to Santari with both she/her and they/them pronouns. It is unknown if this is intentional or the result of their gender being changed in some fashion later in development.

I’m re-listening to the battle of Jedha audio while doing boring stuff like waiting for my sandwich to be ready at the cafe, boring work tasks, etc (and waiting for my audiobook listening hours/credits to reset on Spotify/libro.fm) and
the part where Silandra is like ‘we should check our biases and not just be suspicious of the Path of the Open Hand just because we disagree with them and they’ve been critical of the Order’ when the listener knows they’ve already killed two Jedi and then it immediately cuts to the mother planning to release the Leveller into the holy city I—

Not what I usually post about but the trailer dropped for the final season of bestie @bluedalahorse favorite show Young Royals, which I also quite enjoy, and I think we might have manifested this shot of August (our Problematic Fave) looking like the Shah of Iran when an interviewer asks him if it’s lonely not having peers and he says god is his peer lmao chef’s kiss

Queer Star Wars Characters (Round 2): General Bracket Match 30
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Matthea “Matty” Cathley | Identity: wlw | Media: The High Republic Phase II
Matty Cathley was the talkative (and ADHD-coded) padawan of Master Leebon, the Jedi Order’s representative to Jedha’s convocation of the Force. Matty was assigned to introduce Vildar Mac to Jedha, causing her to spend the lead up to and the Battle of Jedha by his side. She ended up defending the bar Enlightenment from rioters and enforcer droids. During the battle, her master was consumed by the Leveler. Vildar became her new master. After the battle, she was assigned to investigate the Path of the Open Hand with Oliviah Zeveron. She had a crush on Oliviah, and the mission reignited that. However, she was eventually able to process her star-struckness. Their investigation put them right in the middle of the Night of Sorrow. During the battle, when being attacked by the Leveler, Matty was able to push through its fear effect.
Cohmac Vitus | Identity: mlm | Media: The High Republic Phase I
Cohmac Vitus was a Jedi scholar with an interest in folklore and cultural studies. Due to the Great Disaster, his trip to Starlight Beacon was disrupted and he, with his friend Orla Jareni, the two Jedi padawans, and the crew of the ship they were traveling with were left stranded on an ancient Drengir infested space station. Mistaking the Sith alchemy keeping the Drengir dormant for a disturbance in the Force, he was part of removing the statues sealing the beasts and then putting them back, at least slowing the spread of the Drengir across the galaxy. During that adventure, he grew close with the padawan Reath Silas, and took him as his padawan after Reath’s master’s death. They spent their time traveling the galaxy, securing cultural artifacts from planets experiencing conflict and doing comparative folklore studies- a good way to get the studious Reath out into the field. Together they investigated a Nihil plan to build a mass shadow generator and the raiders’ infiltration of Corellia.
Ever since the death of his master when he was a padawan, the Jedi’s pro-death theology never felt right with him. He spent over a decade pushing down his grief (the one emotion the Jedi actually aren’t allowed to feel), and while his adventures on the Amaxine Statione allowed him to come to work through his feelings, it left him even more uncertain of his path as a Jedi. He also doubted the idea that the Dark Side wasn’t to be studied. He also didn’t think the Jedi Order was suitable in a galaxy consumed by the Nihil. After hearing Kantam’s story about leaving the Order and feeling Orla’s death during the destruction of Starlight Beacon, he decided to leave the Order. He knighted his padawan and then gave Reath his lightsaber before hitting the bricks.

I was so sad about cataclysm not sticking the landing that I backtracked and started listening to the start of path of deceit again for my last half hour of work (something very normal that I definitely have time for) and the contrast between Marda and Yana at the start of path of vengeance and them at the start of deceit is KILLING me no stop it don’t make me fucking sad about fucking Marda

Questions I still have after Phase II:
How did the Leveler end up frozen on that ice planet?
How does the rhyme that Azlin came up with when he was having a mental breakdown become so widespread by Phase I?
WHAT is going on with the ecosystem on Planet X?
Who created the breakaway sect of Elders of the Path on Trymant IV?
If the Rod of Seasons originally belonged to the Hynestian royal family, is it a coincidence that it controls the Levler or was it made to do that?
How do the events of Path of Vengeance and Cataclysm get so twisted by that it creates this narrative that on one side the Dalnans think they failed the Jedi and on the other Marchion thinks the Jedi did horrible things to his family?
