This is an incredibly biased review but I genuinely believe that Gravity Falls is the best cartoon of the 2010s and I think they nailed it within the first 2 episodes. If you haven't watched Gravity Falls please watch Gravity Falls.

WE FOUND THE SOURCE OF THE GRAVITY FALLS SLENDERMAN HOAX IMAGE!!

It began over a year ago! I set out on a mission to find the origin of one of the most infamous images in the history of the Gravity Falls fandom:

The Slenderman Hoax Image

In case you don’t know, in July of 2012, this image began appearing around the internet. It was a screenshot from The Legend of The Gobblewonker that had been edited to have the Creepypasta creature known as Slenderman appear in the background. This image fooled many into thinking that Slenderman was actually in Gravity Falls. While some found it very annoying, others remember it fondly as it was what got them into watching the show. Even if it was fake, they stuck around because GF had caught their attention. But what was not known was who made the image!

And after many months of searching, we've FINALLY FOUND IT! The definitive source of who made this image and where it originated from!

It originated from a now defunct imageboard site called TGFB. It was posted there by a user named ceafe2 on July 6, 2012.

As you can see, the original image does not contain the red circle you all know. The image got posted from there to 4chan and eventually Know Your Meme and Imgur, where it spread in popularity and gained the red circle.

Me and a team of fans were able to confirm this as being the legit original image by checking the metadata of it on a website called FotoForensics:

Within the Metadata, we found a tab related to Photoshop, and a create date, showing the image was created literally one minute before it was then posted to this imageboard site!

This confirmed it...ceafe2 created the image and posted it to this imageboard, where it spread from and became the infamous image we all know and either love or hate today.

I made a detailed video and post on Reddit about how we were able to do it. You can check them out for more information on how me and this team of fans worked together to solve this decade old Gravity Falls fandom mystery!

ford-centric rambles under the cut :3 proceed with caution for it is a bit . long. also i talk a lot about weight + ford's relationship with food. enjoy

people who draw ford as having gained weight post-canon pls know that i love you dearly and that you're doing god's work out there. honestly i'm not super on board with drawing him as super skinny to begin with bcs like-

as much as i do think he lost a lot of weight during his portal years, i can't bring myself to see him as skinny as people draw him sometimes because like. your metabolism Does slow down as you age. despite his "strict fitness regime" or however he put it he's not going to achieve a picture-perfect skinny model body at 50+. fit as he is he would not fucking have abs /lh

also him being that skinny also just,,, isn't really healthy. weight loss is not... always... a good thing! especially when it's a result of basically starving!

all this to say i just can't see him with that smooth skinny body you tend to see a lot in ford fanart. rating: Not Cute, the poor man is malnourished, stop encouraging that </3. give him a belly and fat rolls and broader shoulders and fuck it more body hair too while we're at it

also post-canon ford being fatter carries the implication that he's been readjusting to eating human food again and eating regularly which makes me very happy :) he is finally healing from 30 years of scraping nutrients out of whatever he can find and/or supplement pills

honestly the image of him being able to enjoy human food again just makes me so happy. it would probably be weird for him to handle at first because... as i said 30 years of what is decidedly Not Normal Food but once his body got used to it? you know he is eating so much because he has to make up for all those years of missing out on rich tastes and textures

(i do personally headcanon him as having adhd, which first of all means he forgets to feed himself a lot because he hyperfocuses on his work. but after 30 years of being deprived of literally one of the best parts of life and being reminded of how good food is i think he would remember to eat more frequently lol. of course old habits die hard but i like to think he gets better at remembering to eat three square meals a day because he doesn't want to miss out on the delight of eating)

that combined with stan knowing how to cook stuff in canon... look i dunno if he's any Good in the first place (or if he knows how to make anything other than pancakes. i forget) but do you think he tries to get better at it for ford. do you think he looks up recipes which exclude textures that he knows ford dislikes for sensory reasons. do you ever think about How Much that would mean to ford. augh. cooking is a love language man

Sometimes I wonder if the reason that the guys at the fishing lodge "don't like or trust" Grunkle Stan is not just because he has a shady reputation but because he thinks that he is Ford.

Tate would despise and distrust Stanford Pines because as far as he was concerned Ford the reason his father abandoned him and his mother and then lost his mind. Tate is clearly super involved in the fishing community. I mean, he runs the tackle shop. If he hated Stan everyone else would probably side with him.

I am feeling very extremely sentimental this evening so here we heckin go (shoutout to tumblr user unearlthyfromage whom i am too scared to tag)

I love Stanley’s character development. It’s so amazing in so many ways and nearly perfectly executed. Today i’m crying about one thing and one thing only

THE WAY ALL OF THIS IS SO SO LIFE-CHANGING FOR HIM

“Oh but Arsen of course its life-changing that’s what the show is about” HEAR ME OUTT!!!!

Ever since Stanley was a child he was hurt. Badly. By other people. A huge part of his character is the way he easily slips into a persona. We see it multiple times in the way he talks about himself (By day i was Stanford Pines, Mister Mystery! But by night, i was down in the basement trying to bring the real Stanford back) and just in the general visual language of his character.

And i think a huge part of that persona is just how badly insecure he is. You cannot hate this man more than he already hates himself. But the thing about that is, there’s only so many personal blows you can take in your life, even if you’ve already given up on how you view yourself. It’s been repeatedly stated that Stan is craving positive attention, but he’s just too bad at actually getting people to like him. So he creates this persona that simultaneously shields him and uplifts him. If he is praised, it’s “Oh well i did that! Hell yeah!”. If he’s berated, hated, scolded, cursed, then it’s “Oh who cares, it’s not the real me anyway suckers!”

That persona is such a huge part of his character and is so deeply-rooted he even uses it on Ford a couple times in his teens (namely the swingset scene. Look at how Stanley is smiling throughout, but then falters the moment Ford leaves), it’s only natural that he’d use it around people who genuinely want to help him. Soos, Wendy, Dipper, Mabel - all of them are still faced with that fake side of him all throughout season 1

(i have some beef with The Legend of the Gobblewonker here but all writers make mistakes and no show is perfect)

He cares about them deeply, he spends time with them, but he never gets personal. He never really lets himself slip and just enjoy everyone’s presence. Every minute spent in the room with so many people is every minute he has to have that persona up and shielding him from any sudden criticism his way

BUT THEN THE ENDING. AND THE ENTIRETY OF SEASON 2. GOD FUCKING DAMN IT.

I don’t know how many people noticed how goddamn important this scene is to show his character development. Sure he’s still closed-off and gruff and denies he’s going to miss them, but the bets are off. He isn’t hiding his true feelings at all. He’s crying and while that happened some times in the show, it’s never been shown properly. With drawn tears and everything MAN

Hes just so totally changed by all these people that come into his life. People that finally get through to him with all their collective effort. And i imagine helping him regain his memories did the last of it

All i want is for this guy to get infinite hugs and love and affection and let him do his silly little crimes and then bail him out of jail with a noogie and a “silly knucklehead” god fucking damn it IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK

The biggest flaw with Gravity Falls is that they named a brown guy "Reginald". Not one single brown person has ever been given that name. That is not a brown name what is this.
