Oh yeah, I get that! Mostly your post just inspired me to rant about how much I love the oracle mantle for her. Also if they have to keep her as Batgirl the least they could do is be consistent with her established characterisation.
I mean, while I also agree on Barbara needing to go back to being disabled I feel like the whole "I only care about Barbara when she's in the wheelchair" is... icky to me? Barbara was a good character before the killing joke happened. Her time as Batgirl matters both to her character and the dc universe as a whole, especially the Batman mythos. She might have not been as good of a fighter as Cass (no one is as good as Cass) but I feel like a lot of people present her as incompetent, which was never the case?
Also like... Babsgirl was a mistake but I still think that she (and every other female character) deserves to be in character and have good storylines, even if DC is hellbend on keeping her around as Batgirl.

I really hope DC aren't cowards and they're actually planning for Maps Mizoguchi to officially take on the Robin mantle.

Still can't believe that Gail Simone pitched an arc where (the famously compassionate) Cassandra Cain (who sees herself in every killer she meets) learns to care about criminals from a priest because of the Bible.

Okay, as a massive Batgirl fan (and hence a massive Babs fan) I have really complicated thoughts on this. I adore batgirl as an era in her life, in the same way I adore Dick Grayson as Robin. I also believe that her as Batgirl does deserve love and respect. My problem, however is that:
Her writing as Batgirl was frankly disappointingly inconsistent . Pre-Killing Joke most of her strongest stories came not from her as a vigilante but from her as a civilian. She was a badass congresswoman, librarian and career woman and I will never let people forget it.
She willingly handed in the cape and title before Killing Joke. Most people assume she quit because of her paralysis but in universe she willingly retired before hand because she grew disillusioned with the efficacy of being a caped crusader. Her batgirl tenure ended because of her own choice.
Oracle is a natural progression for her, with or without killing joke. She was always the genius librarian of the group, and using those skills to distinguish herself outside of the Bat label just makes sense. Also if Dick Grayson gets to progress so does she.
Oracle is such an iconic mantle and figure, for women in STEM, for disabled people, and for everyone. It's a disservice to the DC universe get rid of it.
I do agree some people end up hating on the concept of her being Batgirl at all, and that I would much rather have an epic Babsgirl hanging out in the DC universe than no Babs (or batgirls) at all. She was an iconic Batgirl, something that Cassandra Cain herself confirms within the Batgirl vs. Joker comic. That being said, in her original arc her getting a new mantle made sense, and Oracle is too important for both the DC universe and representation to ignore.
I did not and you're so right. Now I can't help but imagine Cass' face as it shifts from disappointment to sheer delight. Next thing you know she's begging Babs from a smashable and portable Batcomputer.
Considering the fact that Cass' first real exposure to computers came from the batcomputer and oracle, she would have absolutely wild expectations about what the average computer should be able to do.

everytime someone talks abt misogyny in fandom and how no one can talk about female characters, there's inevitably some person that goes "yeah every single female character to ever exist are all written terribly and thats why no one focuses on them 💔 such a shame 💔" then you go on their account and their favorite character is a male bg character with 3 speaking lines and they've made like 7 AUs so that man can be shipped with himself

I’ve said this in tags before but I want to make it known: dick and cass desperately need regular brunches wherein they can get some fucking moral support. It’s called the ‘we understand batman a LITTLE TOO WELL to be healthy’ club

realistically, if mia was to be revealed a lesbian in canon, how would you want it to be done?
hm hm hm hm. youve struck my achilles heel (having to come up with an original idea)
i think realistically and how i would want it to be done contradict each other a bit.
i would want it done via a genuine exploration of mia's feelings towards men and her unpacking how it relates both to her trauma and her sexuality. and the unfortunate blurred lines between the two. the comphet i could fit in this bad boy is crazy
realistically i think they'd put her in a pride special in the background with a lesbian flag
