Louis Tomlinson – The Mann Center – Philadelphia, PA – July 27, 2023
Louis Tomlinson brought his Faith in the Future to Philly the other night. The fans were left with a night to remember as Tomlinson brought immense energy and a powerful performance.
The night started out with two opening sets by Andrew Cushin, and Berlin-based band Giant Rooks. Cushin took the stage first as he began his set with “You Don’t Belong,” “Dream For a Moment,” and “Love is for Everyone.” His performance was enthusiastic as he started the show on an incredible note! It was clear how excited he was to be on stage, and it was evident that the crowd felt the same way!
Tumblr media
After an incredible set by Cushin, it was time for Giant Rooks to take the stage. It was clear that fans had taken a liking to Giant Rooks throughout their time on tour with Tomlinson, as cheers and screams soared throughout the venue. Their set was booming with energy as they played “Bright Lies,” “Heat Up,” “Bedroom Exile” and “Morning Blue.” Giant Rooks interacted well with the crowd, increasing the excitement that already filled the venue. They noted that it was their first-time playing Philadelphia, and that they would absolutely be back.

At around 9:15, the lights went low, and the venue erupted in screams as Louis Tomlinson and his band took the stage. He began with his song “The Greatest,” which was the perfect choice to get the energy up and the crowd engaged. Tomlinson went on to sing “Kill My Mind” and “Bigger Than Me.” His vocals were strong and passionate as they rang throughout the venue, with the fans singing along to every song without skipping a beat.
Tomlinson shared how excited he was to be in Philadelphia, and the fans made sure he knew they felt the same way. The crowd was a sea of red and black, as fans dressed in outfits celebrating the colors of his most recent album, Faith in the Future. The sense of community and family at this show was incredible, as fans of all ages could be seen sharing and trading friendship bracelets, and bonding over their love for Louis Tomlinson.
Tumblr media
His set continued with “Holding on to Heartache,” “Face the Music,” “We Made It,” and a cover of his old band One Direction’s “Night Changes.” The atmosphere during “Night Changes” was indescribable, as the lyrics to the song echoed throughout the venue and the audience basked in a moment of memories from the era of One Direction.
Throughout the whole set, Tomlinson connected with the audience, taking advantage of every inch of the stage, and even venturing into the crowd multiple times. Accompanied by moody red and blue lights, Tomlinson continued his set with “Written All Over Your Face,” “Copy of a Copy of a Copy,” and “Walls,” the title track of Tomlinson’s 2020 debut solo album. The lyrics in “Walls” describe perseverance, overcoming your struggles, and learning from your mistakes. The emotion in this song was reflected in the crowd, as audience members passionately sang along, feeling every word that Tomlinson sang.
Tumblr media
Tomlinson took a moment to thank both support acts and share how grateful he was for all of the fans' support before continuing on with a cover of “505” by Arctic Monkeys, “Back To You,” “Angels Fly,” and my personal favorite off of the album, “Out of My System.” As the intro to “Out of My System” began, Tomlinson commanded the stage immediately, once again interacting with the audience, and connecting with individual members of the crowd.
The lights went low once again. After Tomlinson exited the stage, it was clear the audience was not ready for the night to be over, as they instantly began chants of “one more song” and “encore.” Shortly after, Tomlinson and his band took the stage again as Louis stood in the corner of the stage under the spotlight and began the encore with his song “Saturdays.” This was a magical moment as fans lit up the venue with phone flashlights as they echoed his every word.
Tumblr media
Tomlinson picked the energy right back up as he began another One Direction cover! This time, he chose “Where Do Broken Hearts Go,” off of One Direction’s studio album FOUR. This instantly brought the audience back to 2014, once again bringing back a multitude of memories from the incredible years of One Direction. Finally, Louis Tomlinson finished his set with a heartfelt and powerful performance of “Silver Tongues,” leaving fans with the powerful lyric “Because it’s times like these / We’re so much happier / Nights like these / We’ll remember.”
As the night came to a close the crowd was filled with emotions, and so was I! I have been a fan of One Direction since I was a kid, and Louis Tomlinson was always my favorite member. It was an incredible experience getting to see him perform, and this show was the perfect culmination of his talent and all of his hard work over the years. Louis Tomlinson brought love, positivity, and many, many memories to Philly that night, and without a doubt gave the audience an unforgettable experience! The mutual love and respect between Tomlinson and his fans is truly incredible, and I can’t wait to see what he does next!

Hi, everyone! Happy World Mental Health Day! 🌎💗
Tumblr media
I’ve got two new posts on my site for the occasion:
As part of New Zealand Comedy Month, the first is a playlist of influences on Flight of the Conchords’ songs. I’ve also incorporated Bo Burnham’s tunes that were obviously similar to those by his musical comedy idols, such as 3.14 Apple Pi and High School Party
It’s a fun read, AND there’s a corresponding Amazon Music playlist that I’ve curated for you all (my name is “Jessica Lee” on Amazon because that was a pseudonym I came up with in the nineties when my parents were scared about using real names online haha)
The second item is a look at Bo’s performance of Make Happy in Philadelphia in 2015. For this piece, I recently interviewed Keswick Theatre audience member SnowyOwl about his experience seeing Bo live and what he thought of Bo’s subsequent works.
SnowyOwl and I actually have a few connections that I learned about during the interview: Aside from living in Pennsylvania, we both attended the Inside screening at the Ritz on July 22nd (albeit at different times) AND we were lucky enough to see the Kiwi duo in 2016 at the Mann Center! Small world haha
I hope you all have a mindful day today, and remember to reach out to people who might be struggling with their mental health. When you’re in the darkness of severe depression and suicidal thoughts like I was on July 25th, it becomes almost impossible to see the light, but it DOES get better—
You are worthy and lovable! ✌🏼🐔

Niall Horan – The Mann Center – Philadelphia, PA – June 11th, 2024
It was a magical evening for Niall Horan fans in Philadelphia. The Irish singer/songwriter made a stop on his “The Show Live on Tour” tour in the City of Brotherly Love, making for an exciting night. The weather was beautiful, and the vibes were even better.
Del Water Gap kicked off the night with an electric set, preparing fans for the next few hours. The indie rock singer performed hits such as “Coping on Unemployment,” “To Philly,” “All We Ever Do Is Talk,” and more. He has such a way with his lyrics and talent that everyone, including parents, was on their feet. He closed out his set with the iconic “Ode to a Conversation Stuck in Your Throat,” which everyone sang along to. As the lights came back up and the familiar pre-show playlist came back on, fans knew it was almost time to see their favorite artist.
After a little while, the audience lights fully went down with spotlights illuminating the stage. Projected onto a curtain mid-stage were the words “Welcome to THE SHOW, starring Niall Horan!” Fans lost their minds, knowing what would happen in the coming moments.
Tumblr media
The curtain raised as the first notes to “Nice to Meet Ya” began playing, and out stepped the man himself, Niall Horan. He shouted, “Welcome to The Show Live on Tour, lovers!” and fans quite literally lost their minds. Horan then went on to play a mashup of “Small Talk” and Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen” which was a surprising treat. The rest of the set was riddled with Horan’s greatest hits such as “On the Loose,” “Never Grow Up,” and a rendition of One Direction’s “Night Changes.” Hearing a One Direction song live in 2024 was a special moment for fans, me included.
Throughout the show, Horan made sure to build a strong connection with the audience. When finishing giving a speech between songs, he added, “I love this city. I love the people in this city,” which was an emotional moment for fans. Later in the show, he took the time to read signs in the audience. One standout sign read “We made you a teddy bear!” and Horan smiled from ear to ear reading it aloud. He then invited the fans up to the stage to give him the bear and then took a photo with the pair. Moments like this really show how much artists care for their supporters.
The next portion of the show was clearly a fan favorite. Horan performed the romantic track “Black and White” followed by an acoustic rendition of “Flicker,” “This Town,” and “You Could Start a Cult.” For each performance during the acoustic set, fans held up their flashlights, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. This was easily one of the most beautiful moments of the night.
Tumblr media
The first single of this new era for Horan, “Heaven,” was an extremely memorable performance. As the song has a strong chorus as backing vocals, I knew it would sound incredible live. Boy was I right. Every. Single. Person. Was on their feet and belting the lyrics to this one. Oh, how I love live music!
After several more songs, Horan disappeared, and the amphitheater filled with anticipation for his return. The stage was illuminated with the singer’s presence again as he began to play “Heartbreak Weather.” This was clearly another crowd favorite, because seemingly everyone knew every single lyric, and remained on their feet for the duration of the song. Fans knew the night was coming to an end when Horan began singing “Slow Hands,” one of Horan’s biggest hit singles. This closing set was one of the best I’ve seen. The energy was absolutely contagious.
Niall Horan’s performance in Philly was an experience that casual attendees and die-hard fans will remember and cherish for life. It is amazing to see an artist like Horan grow over the years, as he has been in the limelight since 2010. The Show Live on Tour is a must-see tour, get your tickets ASAP if Horan is stopping at a city near you!
