I Wanna Be Free
I wanna be free
From the Ring's influence on me
To return to the Hobbit I used to be
But if these wounds won't leave me
Then I must say goodbye
I wanna be free
Don't say time will fully heal me
I've waited so long to see
But time cannot mend me
So I travel across the sea
I wanna be me again
To be free of this stain
I want to free my mind
And though the Shire is kind
To wipe it from my heart
From the Shire I must part
I wanna be free
So farewell my dearest friends
Here where the Fellowship ends
I leave you with the book I penned
Again, my friends, I have to say
I wanna be free
I wanna be free
I will be free

Micky: What are you doing?
Davy: Getting ready for a fight.
Micky: I’ve never known you to need to get ready for a fight. I thought it was always a natural state.

The footage of the shooting of Nguyen Van Lem is truly hideous, and has lost absolutely none of its power to shock, appall, and nauseate. Quite a thing to include in what had to be considered a pop film - or any film - and every year as I show the movie to my students they gasp or shriek at the sight. As the shot rings out, 19 of the 20 screens are filled with the monochrome image of Lem's murder, except the screen at far lower right, the one it originally appears in. This becomes a slow-mo shot of a blonde girl holding her hands to her face in what at first appears to be horror at what she has just seen - the kind of gesture my students make when they first see this moment - but then blows up to be a single full-screen shot of her, when it becomes clear she is seated amongst a throng of other young girls behaving in the same way. Rafelson may well crush a butterfly on a wheel here, but the point is made- is the girl screaming at the hideous inhumanity of what we have just scene, or is this her intense emotional response to what she is about to see? One of the film's serious purposes surfaces here -addressing the inundation of images through the media, and how popular culture is employed to satiate, distract, and pacify human response and potential resistance to the world that moves around us. The film does not revile or mock the young girl - it wants to wake her up.
The Monkees, Head, and the 60s - Peter Mills

Monkees headcanons part two
If left unattended around them, Mike will consume a dangerous amount of pretzels. His body cannot deal with the amount of sodium he will ingest in one sitting and start shutting down. One time he ate too many and Davy had to drive him to the vet (they cannot afford a human doctor)
Sometimes Micky would get really high and wander onto film sets, and people were too scared to ask him to leave. This is how he ended up in night of the strangler, he thought it was just a really intense episode of the Monkees.
Coco Dolenz is secretly the leader of an underground rooster fighting ring. She has a prized fighting rooster named Gustavo that has never lost a fight, and has taken at least one human life.
Davy uses entire bottles of febreze brand air freshener as cologne
The pad is haunted but so much weird stuff goes on in there anyway that no one notices
Micky can recite the entirety of cats the musical from memory, as well as do all the choreography. Sometimes he does this as an encore for their shows. No one wants him too though.
While living in a dumpster for a while, Peter befriended several rats and has trained them all to roll joints for him. He is planning to get one under Mike's hat to see if he can get a ratatouille situation going.
The sparkles Davy gets in his eyes is actually his astigmatism acting up
Mike will sometimes catch flies out of mid-air and eat them as a snack. He calls this going "toad mode". Phyllis hates when he does this.
Sometimes they put Peter on a leash they call "the Peter leash" so he doesn't run away to sell his soul for a harp or plan orgies or whatever

I shit you not, guys...
My 7th graders, after putting things away and working really hard today, asked why we haven't watched The Monkees in a long time. I said that I thought they didn't like them anymore (cause middle schoolers always change their opinions all the time lol) and a out the entire class were appalled that I thought that and kept saying "We wanna watch the Monkees!! Can we have Monkees Friday? Can you bring in more episodes? I wanna see Davy and Micky again" (this class' favorite). Like, it almost turned into a riot!
I showed them the show last year as a reward for having a great concert and I guess they've been hooked ever since without me even knowing lol
So I put on an episode and all of them gathered around our TV and I was going to skip the theme song to get to the episode (it was the last 5 minutes of class) and they all got so upset and said "No don't, I wanna see the theme song!" So we only saw like, maybe 3 minutes of the actual episode and when the bell ring they wanted to stay and watch more 😆
Band to Monkees pipeline lol
