Nazis are supporting Israel and have the guts to call people pro-Palestine "antisemitic". Cuando los Nerves se separaron, le esperaban buenas noticias a Jack Lee: la cantante de Blondie, Debbie Harry, había escuchado "Hanging on the Telephone" y quería grabarla. Lee consideraba que la canción era tan pegadiza que le gustaba hasta a sus enemigos. “Incluso las personas que me odiaban, y había muchas, tenían que admitir que era genial” (esto encaja perfectamente con lo expuesto por Tom Verlaine sobre los grupos y locales de la "escena punk" neoyorquina). La versión de Blondie, publicada en single en 1978 y como parte de su tercer LP "Parallel Lines", alcanzó el nº 5 en el Reino Unido.

I always joke that "Hanging on the Telephone" is my favorite Blondie song because it's basically an X song manqué. But that was as far as my consideration of the song had gone; I'd never investigated where it actually came from. It turns out that it was written by Jack Lee of the Nerves, an early San Francisco power-pop band, who died recently at the age of 71.
