Whenever life gets too crazy and things change too much one of my go to remedies is looking up the blue exorcist tag on tumblr. That shit has had the same couple of memes, and fanart for years, and when something new is in the tag it’s nice to look at and yeah when a new chapter comes out people talk about it. But nothing big really changes in the fandom, a lot of the top posts are shit from like 2019. Like don’t get me wrong I fucking love blue exorcist, I read every new chapter, I’ve been a fan for years and the fact that not much has changed about it on tumblr is kinda comforting in a way. Like no matter how much time passes or how old I get, I still have this fandom, the fact that the manga is still going honestly makes me so happy. It’s nice.

If I ever write a sex scene that doesn’t involve some element of praise kink, it’d be one of those “things I post to clue my followers in that I’ve been kidnapped” memes

I lost the post I was trying to reblog about how it’s sexist of fandom to make jokes about the token lady character of a particular media being the Braincell Holder of the male-majority group, but what I was gonna say was the great thing about NADDpod is that in every single campaign the Braincell Holder is absolutely NOT the lady PC under any circumstances. Emily Axford would NEVER

i need recommendations for some lesbian movies. My wife wants to watching something gay, but is tired of gay men's movies
oh gosh I am so sorry I'm just now getting to this - I was out of town the whole weekend and got back yesterday evening, when my brain was melting out my ears from the heat. without further ado!
I have categorized this list into a few sections:
Well-Made/"Good" Movies I Can Vouch For
Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019): you have probably heard of this, but in case you haven't, it's a French historical drama about a painter who is commissioned to do a wedding portrait for a reluctant bride-to-be. It's lush, emotional, bittersweet, and breathtakingly shot. Content warnings: mention of a minor character's suicide, brief abortion scene featuring a secondary character, one scene of the leads doing drugs together.
Saving Face (2004): This is a lovely film about a young Chinese surgeon who is juggling her secret relationship with the drama her mother causes. Content warnings: intergenerational trauma.
Carol (2014): Again, you've probably heard of this one - it's another historical drama, this one based on Patricia Highsmith's novel The Price of Salt. A young aspiring photographer is captivated by a mysterious woman named Carol. After Portrait came out I find myself not as enamored of this one (I think Rooney Mara is not very good in it lmao), but it's a lovely film worth a watch. Content warnings: period-typical homophobia, Carol's shitty husband.
The Half of It (2020): From the director of Saving Face, this is a high-school coming of age movie inspired by Cyrano de Bergerac, in which a second-generation Chinese girl ends up volunteering to write love letters to her crush, "from" the jock who is also in love with said crush. Some really beautiful stuff about immigrant Chinese families in here, and I was really touched by the friendship between the two leads. Content warnings: racism, homophobia, bullying, intergenerational trauma.
Professor Marston and the Wonder Women (2017): This is based on the life of William Marston, creator of Wonder Woman, and his partners Elizabeth and Olive. I am given to understand that the relationship between the two women was probably not romantic IRL, but I really love the way the movie treats both the triad and the women as a couple. I also think the BDSM stuff is cute. Content warnings: age gap/power differential romance (two professors and their TA), homophobia including a brief violent attack, brief cancer subplot towards the end of the film.
Summerland (2020): A WWII movie about the bond between a reclusive writer and the young boy she is reluctantly forced to care for due to the London evacuations. I will spoil this for you because it gave me severe anxiety: the lesbians both live to the end, and they get to raise their son together! My main complaint is not enough Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Content warnings: WWII imagery/setting, parent death (offscreen but significant part of the plot), brief child peril.
The Favourite (2018): This is a weird little black comedy about two cousins who are vying to be the favored paramour of Queen Anne in 18th century Britain. It's some fun fucked-up drama. Content warnings: animal abuse/death (toward the end of the film), manipulation, non-consensual drugging.
I Can't Think Straight (2008): I haven't seen this one since college but I remember liking it - it's about two women, one Palestinian and one Indian, who meet and fall in love despite unlikely circumstances. Content warnings: cheating (one character is engaged to a man).
V For Vendetta (2005) - in case you forgot, this has lesbians! Content warnings: torture, attempted sexual assault, hanging, child death, panic attack, homophobia/dead lesbians
Birds of Prey (2020) - Harley Quinn is canonically bisexual! Also I love this movie. Content warnings: cartoonish violence, graphic torture including of a child, child death (implied/heard), implied sexual assault by the villain (of a minor character).
Booksmart (2019): High school comedy about two best friends who decide they're sick of being dweebs and want to go to a cool party before they graduate. I think it's largely delightful and I love the lesbian character's story. However, the subplot with the teacher who has sex with her (19yo) student is BAD and I won't defend it, nor will I judge anyone for wanting to skip based on that. Content warnings: extended non-con drugged sequence (played for laughs/nothing bad happens to them), aforementioned age gap/power differential romance (secondary characters).
But I'm a Cheerleader (1999): Clea Duvall and Natasha Lyonne star in a satire of conversion therapy camps, also featuring young Dante Basco. Personally I think it keeps things light and silly enough not to trigger me with the religious rhetoric. Content warnings: conversion camp setting and corresponding conservative Christian rhetoric, general homophobia, uh, RuPaul is here at one point?
In the Heights (2021): This movie is very much not perfect, chiefly for the colorism in the casting choices. BUT I like that Daniela and Carmen are gay now. Content warnings: racism, prejudice against undocumented individuals, grandparent death.
Movies I Think You Should Watch Maybe - Are They Good? I Couldn't Say!
D.E.B.S. (2004): This is a deeply silly movie about an all-girls' spy school in which the star pupil falls in love with international supercriminal Lucy Diamond, directed by queer icon Angela Robinson and featuring lesbian grandma Holland Taylor as the headmaster. Content warnings: cartoonish (PG-13) gun violence.
Imagine Me & You (2005): This was baby's first f/f movie for me, and so it has a very special place in my heart even though it is Problematic because it's about a lady cheating on her husband with Lena Headey, and also nobody remembered bisexuality exists so they say "lesbian" pretty exclusively and that sucks. Lena Headey and Piper Perabo are so good together though, and I genuinely like everyone in this movie. Content warnings: cheating (one character is married to a man).
Happiest Season (2020): Do not @ me this is MY movie!!! Kristen and Mackenzie are PERFECT. Content warnings: homophobia, manipulative behavior, one weirdly intense interrogation scene with mall cops that frankly should've been cut, mentioned fish death.
A Simple Favor (2018): This movie...it is batshit. If you like trashy drama, you will probably like this movie! Linda Cardellini plays a lesbian artist and I love her so much. Content warnings: manipulation, murder, incest (adult half-siblings not raised together), intense discussion of murder-suicide, gun violence
The Falling (2014): This movie is also batshit and not good, but I need more people to watch it, because I've seen it four times and I have no idea what it's trying to say. It features Maisie Williams and Florence Pugh as British boarding school teens who have an intense "friendship" and then suddenly everyone in the school starts having collective fainting spells. Please, I just need to find the person out there who gets what this movie is doing so they can explain it to me. Content warnings: unexplained medical issues (fainting), seizures, incest (consensual? sex scene), attempted suicide, grief, discussion of sexual assault and trauma therein (secondary character)
A New York Christmas Wedding (2020): This movie is ALSO batshit in a completely different way than the other two, and again, I need someone to explain it to me. It's, uh, sort of It's a Wonderful Life but with a bisexual heroine, and some batshittery along the way? Content warnings: suicide (secondary character), teen pregnancy, weird pro-life vibes, parent death, way too much church, homophobia, Chris Noth
Movies I Haven't Yet Seen Which Have Been Recc'd To Me
Crush (2022)
Pariah (2011)
Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (2020)
Fear Street Trilogy (2021)
The Handmaiden (2016)

My #1 post of 2022
Wild mass guessing about the theme of the Dimension 20 sidequest being announced tomorrow, loosely ranked from most to least likely with reasoning:
Fairy tale remix (this has been thrown around as a suggestion in fandom before, just seems like a fun idea)
Superheroes (potentially with the Masks system, though I know Chapter and Multiverse is doing a shorter campaign with that system right now)
Unsleeping City spin-off, possibly prequel with mentioned characters (not sure if Brennan would want someone else DMing in this world, I just think it would be neat)
Horror survival campaign (PVP/permadeath more likely with guest players, but might be too intense/dark for the D20 brand. BUT Brennan just DM’d EXU Calamity and was a goddamn nightmare over there)
Mice and Murder s2 with partial or all new cast (possibly new DM, but unsure how popular s1 was comparatively)
Misfits and Magic s2 (Erika and Aabria are very busy but four episodes could’ve been filmed in a couple weekends at most)
Real Housewives RPG DM’d by Izzy Roland (funniest possible option; extremely unlikely)
Warrior cats (I lied. this is the funniest possible option)

cross my heart and hope to die
fandom: not another d&d podcast, naddpod
rating: teen, for cursing and description of injuries
pairing: beverly toegold v/erlin kindleaf, beverlin
wc: 1664
read it on ao3
summary:
Beverly had the lone privilege of getting to go back home for a while before they went and did some post-war reparations because it was at the end of the war against Thialah that Hardwon and Moonshine had the same unnerving realization that Beverly was still technically a high schooler. As such, they told him to get his ass back to Hillholm for a little while to pretend that things were normal for a while.
It wasn't normal.
author’s note: i hope you enjoy!!!! lyrics and title are from ajr's "infinity"!
[spoilers for both the shadowfell saga and the chosen saga!]
cross my heart and hope to die
stick a needle in my eye
my mama says to pick the best
and you’re it
Beverly stumbles into his mom’s house after the final fight, the not-end of the world, and he collapses onto the couch. She walks in, takes one look at him, and sighs heavily.
“You’re getting blood on the carpet,” Martha Toegold says, but she doesn’t look mad. She looks at her son and she sees the gashes on his arms and legs, she sees the tear tracks down his face, and she knows. She knows everything, the way moms always seem to know everything, and she simply shakes her head.
He laughs and it turns into a hacking cough halfway through. “I know, Mom.”
She tsks. “You’re gonna have to clean that up later.”
The silence is heavy and it weighs down on both of them. Beverly can feel it more than usual. She doesn’t want him to notice how awkward it is, but they can both tell. “Bloodstains, they never come out. You gotta use lemon and seltzer. You’ll learn when you--” She stops abruptly.
“When I what, Mom?” he asks tiredly. What haven’t I done already? he thinks.
She just shakes her head yet again. “I was gonna say when you have your first real battle.” Martha Toegold looks at her son and she cracks the first smile she has in a long time. “Ain’t that the understatement of the year, huh, Bev?”
Beverly doesn’t laugh this time. First real battle, that is the most ridiculous thing he’s heard all year. He may be sixteen, but he’s faced more gods and devils and horrible people that he’s got the experiences of a 100-year-old crammed into a few months of his life.
“I’ll leave you be for now, sweetheart,” she says, and she crosses the room to give her son a kiss on the forehead. “Let me know if you need anything, alright?”
She gets almost to the stairs before he croaks out, “Mom?”
“Yes, Bev?”
He sniffles and wipes his nose, smearing some of the ash on his face. “Where is he?”
Martha Toegold looks at her son and she sees the boy who used to try and bring squirrels home as pets, who ran off with his friends into the glades whenever he could, who used to make her flower crowns and help her with the dishes every night, and she truly smiles. “At his grandmother’s, sweetheart. Promise me you’ll get cleaned up first, please?”
He nods, and the heaviness vanishes.
all our troubles gone
like when we were young
take me back to where we all began
Beverly cleans the blood off the carpet first and then takes a shower. It’s been a long time since he’s stayed here in Hillholm, but their house is the same, strangely enough, even as the dust settles.
He shivers when he steps outside, not because it’s cold, but because it’s warm. Beverly isn’t sure how long it’s been since he’s been warm. Not hot, just… comfortably warm.
The sun is shining on Hillholm, which is one of the few cities left after the war, but it feels fake. Nothing feels real anymore, though, so it’s not a feeling he’s unused to.
Beverly shoves his hands into his pockets and walks the familiar path to Erlin’s grandmother’s house. He stands awkwardly at the door for a little while before knocking. The door swings open and he only catches a blur of orange curly hair before he’s knocked flat onto the doorstep, pinned underneath his boyfriend.
Erlin kisses him fiercely, and they’re both laughing and smiling and it feels amazing. There is no apocalypse, there are no dead gods, there is only the two of them right here, right now.
He had the lone privilege of getting to go back home for a while before they went and did some post-war reparations because it was at the end of the war against Thialah that Hardwon and Moonshine had the same unnerving realization that Beverly was still technically a high schooler. As such, they told him to get his ass back to Hillholm for a little while to pretend that things were normal for a while.
It wasn’t normal. It was quiet and strange and there were so many people missing, so many faces that flashed behind Beverly’s eyes when he tried to sleep at night. He’d just gotten home today, bruised and bloodied from fighting some stupid gnomes at the edge of Hillholm that decided to jump him as he was walking home, and everything felt wrong.
But here he is, laying on the Kindleaf’s porch, and it feels a little bit less wrong.
here we are again like we should have been
oh my darling can i have this dance?
Beverly sits down cross-legged on Erlin’s bed and starts messing with the sheets nervously while Erlin is laying down with his head in Bev’s lap, and both of them are uncomfortably silent. Normally they’d play video games or talk about Green Teen things, but none of this is normal, from the little things like the length of Erlin’s hair to the big things like the fact that they’re not just best friends anymore, they’re boyfriends, and they just went to war.
More importantly than the war, they’re dating now, and Beverly’s never been in a relationship before. Without all the pressure of oh, we might die tomorrow and all that jazz, he’s starting to think he’s not quite as good at it as he’s made himself out to be in the past. When the only people you have to compare your relationship capabilities to are Moonshine, Balnor, and Hardwon, you might get a false sense of confidence.
He clears his throat and says, “So did I ever get a chance to tell you about when we were in Shadowfell and we fought a kraken?”
Erlin gasps and sits up. “Dude, no! I’ve never even seen one of those, and you guys fought one?” He lies back down and pouts a little bit. “You guys got to fight such cool monsters.”
Beverly laughs and tangles his fingers in his boyfriend’s hair, slowly braiding and unbraiding his curls. “Well, when we were in Shadowfell we fought all kinds of crazy stuff. Shadowfell is chill now, you know, ‘cause Hardwon’s mom is the queen down there, but when we were there the first time there were vampires and all these weird ghosts and it was so creepy.”
“Hardwon’s mom is the queen of Shadowfell?”
He nods. “We killed the old king--it was Galad Rosell, you remember him?--and we made her the queen. She’s really cool!”
“You guys are so much cooler than us,” Erlin scowls, and Beverly can’t help but laugh. “Don’t laugh at me, you asshole. Red and Egwene are cool and all, but I wish I’d gotten to know Moonshine and Hardwon more.”
He blushes a little bit and smiles before saying, “They know way too much about you already.”
Erlin narrows his eyes and gives Bev a look. “Why do they know stuff about me?”
“C’mon, man,” Beverly replies, face heating up even more. “You know why.”
“Mm, no, don’t think I can figure that one out by myself,” he teases softly as he sits up and leans his head against Beverly’s shoulder. “You gotta tell me.”
“Shut up,” he mumbles. “They know stuff about you cause we spent every day together for months and I’m in love with you, stupid. I talk about the things I love.”
Erlin presses a soft kiss to Beverly’s temple and replies, “I’m in love with you too, idiot. If it makes you feel any better, Red and Guenther and Egwene know way too much about you too.”
“Egwene already knew way too much about me.” He sighs and gives Erlin a side-eye. “What did you tell her?”
He shrugs innocently. “Just some of the stuff we got up to during Green Teens. We did an awful lot of sneaking off during camp-outs and stuff when we were younger.”
“Those were the days, huh?” Beverly shakes his head and smiles at his boyfriend--his best friend--and it feels a little bit less wrong, yet again.
They spend the rest of the day trading stories from their adventuring days and gossiping about their parties--though Beverly definitely wins that one, no matter how many cool things Egwene and Red have done, Moonshine’s done it all and probably has her own name for it to boot--and as the sun sets over Hillholm, both boys are sitting on the floor of Erlin’s room leaning against his bed. Beverly is content, for once in a long, long time, and he lets everything that happened and is happening fall into his peripheral, focusing just on this moment right here.
He leans into Erlin, burying his face in his neck, and lets out a happy little sigh. “I’ve missed you, you know.”
“I’ve missed you too, Bev. Being an adventurer is cool and all, but I’d trade the past few weeks for a hundred more with you.”
Beverly blushes and laughs. “When did you get so dang eloquent?”
He laughs as well and nudges him with his shoulder. “I think you’ve just been spendin’ too much time around people who can’t read, dude.”
They both collapse into giggles, and it finally feels real and right and normal, and even though so much has changed, so much has stayed the same and one of those things is simply Beverly and Erlin because they’ve always been best friends, they’re just a little bit more now too. Beverly sits back up and looks at his best friend’s eyes and says, “I love you, Erlin.”
“I love you too, Beverly.”
And if that isn’t as right as it gets.
cross my heart and hope to die
since you came into my life

so inspired by artists who do like an “art of 2019″ thing at the end of December, I really wanted to do a “writing of 2019″ thing for myself! it’s mostly fanfiction/dnd focused since that’s what i talk about on this blog, but i’m going to mention other things i did too! this is an incredibly self-indulgent post but...i do what i want. but it got very long so i will put it under a cut lol
top 5 fics i wrote:
1. My "long” (it’s only 15k, but that’s long for me, lol) NADDPOD fic “can i try again, and again, and again?” is not only the best fanfic i’ve written, I also think it has some of the best lines and moments i’ve ever written. plus i like, enjoyed every second of writing it, which is wild. my love for alanis and for naddpod: endless. my love for everyone who left a comment on that story or said nice things in the tags when they reblogged it: ALSO endless.
2. i’m also super proud of how “there’s something about the second watch” came out. Fjord and Beau are not only my favorite characters from Critical Role, they’re some of my favorite characters ever, and I love their friendship so much, and even though this is a short little piece, it has a lot of heart in it and I’m glad I wrote it and I’m even more glad that it resonated with other people the way it did with me.
3. Some of my absolute favorite scenes to write and read are the ones that take place the night before a big, possibly fatal battle, when everyone is making final preparations and saying all the things they want to make sure they say. “Heroes’ Feast” is exactly that, and it also let me explore some of my favorite relationships in the podcast. Also it made people cry which is always my goal.
4. I worked on “where the love-light gleams” off-and-on for over a month, and I’m really happy with how it came out. It was nice to get inside Adaine’s head and to explore her relationship with each of her friends, and since season 2 has been non-stop intensity I liked writing the Bad Kids just getting to take a break and have fun together.
5. I published the first three chapters of “Woe and Weal” back in January, right before the last episode of Fantasy High season 1 came out, when there were only two or three other Dimension 20 fics on ao3. There are definitely things I would change about it or do better, but it has been so much fun to watch how much the fandom community has grown in the time since, and every time someone new discovers the fic and likes it it makes me so so so happy. I’m definitely going to write more chapters in 2020 (once I decide which one i want to write next, lol), and i’m so thankful for everyone who’s read it and left a comment or messaged me, you all are what keeps me going <3
top 5 other projects i did in 2019:
1. wrote a 40,000 word magical realism novella for my thesis project, which was good enough to get me to graduate with departmental honors (and also like, graduated college with a creative writing degree!!)
2. wrote and published a DnD One-Shot which has now been purchased by over 50 people, and which has been played by people I don’t even know, which is completely wild to me
3. worked with some of my friends to write an interactive fiction game over the course of a weekend for a Game Jam
4. started TWO new DnD campaigns, one of which introduced a whole bunch of people who’d never played DnD before to the game, and several of them are now so obsessed with it that they talk about it all the time and spontaneously played a one-shot by themselves and texted me for advice in the middle, and the other of which is being recorded for a podcast hopefully coming sometime in the next couple of months.
5. FINISHED a campaign I was DMing, wrapping it up with a satisfying but bittersweet ending where Strahd was defeated and all the characters got an ending that suited the choices they made.
top 5 fanfic projects/goals for the new year
1. I’ve got this post-canon, gentle-healing-over-the-course-of-many-years Allshine fic that I started and got like 1500 words into but haven’t had time to finish yet, but I’m determined to finish it!!! this will probably be my first project whenever i get time to work on fic again.
2. I also have at least four different Hardshine fics that I’ve started but never finished, but i’m GOING to finish one and actually publish it if it KILLS me.
3. I’ve never written a 5+1 fic before but I have a really great idea for one that’s “five times the Legendary Heroes stood their ground and the one time they ran” wherein the ‘one time’ is after they killed Asmodeus but left Ilsed. it’s gonna be great. it’s gonna have two chapters from each perspective. it’s gonna be a good excuse for me to work on writing combat, which i’m not very good at but would like to be better at. it’s gonna break all your hearts. I’m gonna get to it eventually.
4. I’ve been holding onto this idea since Fantasy High season 1 ended, but consider: extremely fancy elven party/ball/wedding. The Bad Kids need to have someone on the scene to get some information, but Adaine is the only one with an actual invitation and it’s pretty dangerous for her to go alone. Fortunately, she gets a plus one, and the logical choice is for her to bring Fig, with her high charisma and her disguise self and the fact that she’s half-elf as well as being a tiefling. but of COURSE, so no one is suspicious, Adaine and Fig will have to act like they’re dating all night. we’re talking fancy clothes. we’re talking clandestine conversations while dancing. we’re talking mutal pining. we’re talking fancy elven bullshit. we’re talking the rest of the bad kids crammed into a van outside stressing themselves out about their friends. the world of fantasy high is RIPE for fake dating AUs and i WILL write this in 2020 even IF it ends up having to just pretend that season 2 doesn’t exist!!!!!
5. i fell in love with the “the mighty nein are all con artists in different crews trying to con each other” idea the second I saw this post, and I still would really love to write something like it--maybe not the exact idea the OP of that post had (I might throw a little Leverage AU flair in there) but just something light-hearted and funny and found family. plus it would be a good excuse to flex some writing muscles that I don’t work on very often.
top 5 other projects and goals:
1. do a second draft of my novella to make it a little longer, and then try to get an agent so i can get it published!
2. write another DnD one-shot! I might try to do it in July for the RPG Writers Workshop again, or I might just do it on my own, but it was a really fun (if really hard) experience that I'd like to try my hand at again.
3. start publishing episodes of our podcast!
4. become a better DM, every chance I get.
5. get a full time job that’ll be stable enough to support myself SO i have the time and mental freedom for all these writing projects. that’s important, too.
