Also Nekrotefeyo was criminally underused for the legendary Eridian homeworld like I was expecting like a big abandoned city or a completely decimated apocalyptic place, not a dried up ocean bed (Are they maybe more crustaceans instead (?) of bugs???) with like 2 Eridian buildings on it and also Maliwan for... Some... Reason. Seriously. Dark Maliwan was so clearly cut content and I wanna know wtf that was all about. Also we got Promethea so it isn't like they weren't capable of making a big city area, like the restrictions of the engine wouldn't allow it, they just didn't... Feel like it? Maybe didn't have time to flesh it out given how late nekro is in the game? Seriously it feels empty as fuck, I love exploring the planets, but even as a certified lore lover I just can't bring myself to explore that place more than I have to for quests. It's really empty and boring

Also, I am bet that the big glowing thing we see coming out of the planet as it fragments is related either to the Machine and the souls sacrificed to make it work, or the Guardian soul main storage thingie. Mainly because ghosts and such are real in the bl universe and they're all that same glowing green sort of deal. It also reminds me of Krieg's mind planet projection thing which does add credence to that. That is potentially why Minos Prime 'hatched', it could have been a storage place for other, maybe reject(?) Guardian souls and that's where all the Eridian and Guardian stuff randomly came from that Tannis keeps goddamn repeating every time u play the takedown. FE Minos Prime was a testing site for prototype Guardians and the souls (I don't want to call them mind cores because the mind core we got from the Vault of the Destroyer was solid and not green and don't even get me STARTED on that whole situation because there was cut Overseer dialogue from when you take that thing out of the Vault and why WAS it even in the VAULT OF THE DESTROYER and Hhhhh) were stored in Minos Prime until whoops they got out. And I'm guessing they sacrificed the people of Minos Prime to the Machine (we literally left nobody guarding it sooo) bc Tannis says they just vanished without a trace. Which ALSO adds bonus points to my theory that the Eridians aren't dead and are just chilling elsewhere laughing at us right now.

I still think Lilith brought Elpis to the Eridian Rift on the map Typhon and Leda wrote all over and she's vibing there, too. Maybe it's a sort of stasis place where time doesn't pass so the people of Elpis don't die. Idk how Lilith would know about that but then again given the chest in her room I would honestly not bet against my whole 'Lilith had help from the Watcher and/or the Eridians during/before Bl3 and refused to tell us' which is why she just vanishes at the end of the game and takes Elpis with her.

And also why Sanctuary-III randomly exists when we have never heard of the company that made it before (seriously what is supamax mfg), it's somehow in good enough condition that Moxxi and Ellie could fix it up with their scarce resources, and they found it before any other people did (can probably chalk this one up to Tannis if there were cameras or it was hooked up to the ECHOnet of Pandora, but the other two points stand). I would've been okay with it if it were an Atlas ship Rhys sent over or smth, if it were an old Hyperion ship, if the branding of supamax mfg was Moxxi and Ellie's team effort of making a spaceship company in honor of Scooter- literally if any of these things were explained in-game, but they're NOT. So I am left to go 'what the hell where did this come from what is Supamax MFG' and like, a random company we've never heard of existing is totally fine, we're introduced to the Obsidian Black Block and Hephestus United as well, but it just feels weird that this random supply (?) ship just happened to go to Pandora for some reason and then also crash or was abandoned for some reason. If we could just get a scrap of info on Supamax MFG and why this ship was on Pandora I'd be happy. Their branding is Ships Made Quick so clearly they build ships which is fine.

Did Lilith contact them? If so, cool, could we get an ECHO log of that? Where did she get the money after Sanctuary-II blew tf up? Did she or Moxxi or Ellie have connections that allowed them to get the ship made for cheap or free? Why did they decide to make the ship out in the open when they knew about the rising CoV threat?? Was the ship stolen? Did the Crimson Raiders just kill a bunch of people to get their hands on it? I doubt it, but this shit isn't explained! So yeah when I write theories like 'Hm well maybe this ship was planted here by the Watcher' its not because I'm driven insane by the Eridians it is because we literally have no other reason to go 'maybe not' and with what little information we do get during the game, it could be fuckin possible!!!

Lilith apparently knew more than she was letting on, she was contacted personally by the Watcher during the end of TPS (brick specially had to ASK what the Watcher said to Lilith), so yeah fuck it the ship and everything that wasn't explicitly explained was given to Lilith by the Watcher to help her in her quest for whatever the Big One is in bl4. Bc you KNOW that Bl3 was just the lead up to get the Destroyer to slip out of its chains thru Tyreen's meddling (literally in nyriads log right before the final boss and its not like ty absorbed an entire planet sized monster and was the size of, like, a shortish tree so you know the Destroyer is still in there as it's further confirmed by Scourge when he says shit like you don't even know what you just did blah blah shut up loser- the only thing pointing to the Destroyer ACTUALLY being dead is that the Vault (????) of the Destroyer (???????????????) opened after Tyreen died but then we can make the Vault of the Architects argument that maybe it considered her part of the Destroyer and her dying confused the Vault into opened, iunno. I don't even know why that Vault was there in the first place wtf was its purpose I thought the Vault of the Destroyer was either the other Pandora one (emergency human feeding port to a monster that doesn't need sustenance) or literally Pandora itself in which case killing Tyreen should have destroyed the whole planet by opening it soooooo I guess that Vault exists to circumvent that extremely specific problem only the Eridians would have guessed could happen idk) and to set the Guardians up as villains cuz fuck them that's why (>:( please gearbox don't, make the Eridians the bad guys if someone has to be evil pretty please the Guardians aren't the bad guys they are literally gaining sentience right now give them a chance they gotta figure themselves out and the Eridians fit the whole 'corporations exploiting their workers' vibe with the Guardians being forced to work even after the Eridians are gone so don't let those parallels slip away with shortsighted storytelling) but then it hurts even worse cuz the story could've been so much simpler and just... Sweeter and better than what we got if that's all they had to do was set those two things up. Bro I hate how every time I go to ask questions abt the game it leads me back here. Because it's true!! And it hurts I just wanna sit down with the lore manager of the game and ask them all these questions because I'm genuinely curious, but I'm afraid of the answers or non-answers I'll get. Again, I get the whole 'things have to happen for plot, not everything should be questioned, give the writers some slack to write a story' argument but when EVERYTHING falls under that category and the story didn't even end up being that great, it gets really frustrating because HONESTLY? if we had gotten good lore and explanations to things and actual world building and details and all that? I wouldn't have minded the main story so much. But unfortunately we got neither good lore (I wanna tell Nyriad she was lied to very badly because it's either the Eridians are evil and liars about a lot, or nobody thought twice the implications of giving the Destroyer a feeding port that explicitly calls humans to it) nor good main story (you know.) and it just. Is annoying. That's all.

okay last comment for this post. mxtx’s little authors note about everyone being straight except for hualian but you can make up headcanons as long as you dont split hualian up fjdlfakdj. i just find it silly to write a story thats so clearly for an audience that understands shipping and ships often and say not to split a specific couple up but i mean to be fair i kind of get it that sentiment as an author and not wanting people to do certain things with your work, although again i think its silly

i guess the point of this note is just to be clear that no one else is going to get together so no one argues about it and i dont actually know much about how this was published but it seems like it was serialized so i can see why that would be an issue. personally i dont really care for knowing stuff like that ahead of time but i know a lot of people do and it seems to be thing in other cnovels ive seen to know whos going to get together as far as major characters are concerned i guess thats part of the draw and i guess i kind of get it

not sure how much other romance will be in this but also i think its kind of ridiculous to be like “these are the only two gay characters” in a cast that just keeps growing but whatever shes really leaving that work up to the readers to make it happen which they’ll do anyways so whatever. also there had to be at least one of the 33 officials who fought hua cheng who thought he was hot. theres no way that didnt happen

8x13: Do Not Send Us Astray - Re-Watch

Hey Everyone! So the rewatch of S8 continues. As I wrap up S8 this week, I’m kind of addressing broad themes rather than specifics in the episodes, but I’m glad I rewatched this season. It’s definitely given me some interesting insights.

This is the episode where the Saviors attack HT and hit a bunch of people with their walker-blood poisoned arrows. Later, when everyone is sleeping in the manor house, Tobin dies from the infection, turns, and starts biting people. Carol kills him. Also, Henry accidentally lets the savior prisoners out when he’s looking for whoever killed his brother, so he runs off. This is the beginning of where Carol will go to find and rescue him.

The first thing I noticed (not really TD) were similarities between Morgan’s arc here, and Carol’s in S10, particularly in the Look at the Flowers episode. So, remember how they had Carol hallucinating Alpha (after she’d died) and Alpha would say things to Carol that other characters, like Lizzie and Mica had said?

I'd forgotten, but they did the same thing with Morgan here. Remember that last episode, Henry killed Gavin. So in this episode, Morgan keeps hallucinating Gavin with blood running down from his throat where Henry stabbed him, and saying all things Morgan used to say in Clear and Here’s Not Here. (You were supposed to, etc.) Just thought that was really interesting, and more proof that Carol and Morgan have pretty much the same arc. It revolves around deceased children they couldn’t save and their (Carol and Morgan’s) mental state. Morgan also does this a few episodes later with Jared after he dies.

Okay, so they have this little battle at Hilltop. There’s a school bus heavily involved, which is obviously a potent symbol. But they also had a light and dark theme going on. Once the Saviors were inside the gates, all the car lights turned off, which plunged them into darkness. Simon even says, “I can’t see shit.” It just reminded me of Beth’s possible blindness, and of her and Noah staggering around in the dark when they tried to escape.

Then, when Simon and the others move forward, the HT-ers suddenly turn all the lights on in a blazing stream and start firing from the windows of the manor house. This is really what wins the battle for them. Simon and the saviors cut and run. Many die, but some, including Simon, get away. But HT has won the battle, and they used the light—car lights, no less—to do that. So obviously very heavy symbolism there.

During this battle, Tobin is stabbed. He doesn’t die here, but rather later from the infection. I think his wound is in the shoulder or chest, but it’s not fatal. The interesting things is that when he goes down, Carol runs over to him. (Remember this is prior to her hooking up with Zeke, which she does after the end of this season, after she saves Henry. So Tobin is her most recent love interest. She left Alexandria at the end of S6 and hasn’t seen him since.)

What caught my interest here is the dialogue. You’ll definitely recognize it. Carol runs over to him. Tobin says, “I’m okay.” Carol answers, “It’s okay. I’m here.” Pretty much word for word what Beth said to Carol at Grady. I have a few possibilities for how to interpret this.  After hashing things out with my fellow theorists, I think I have a better handle on this. So, here’s the thing. I do think this is a Beth thing. Tobin is a parallel/anti-parallel to Beth here. Why? Party because of the Grady dialogue.

Tobin wasn’t bitten, but he still died from the walker virus. Carol didn’t die at Grady, but probably should have (internal injuries). So, Tobin could be an anti-parallel to her. Then again, Carol wasn’t bitten and wasn’t ever really in danger of turning. It’s Beth that we think was bitten but didn’t die. So, I lean toward Tobin being an anti-parallel to her, and that’s why it’s Carol saying the “I’m here” line this time.

But the other reason I’m equating Tobin and Beth has to do with Patrick, from 4a. Remember that he died in 4x01, but no one realized it. He woke up (as a walker) and started eating people at the prison, right? Well, we have the exact same situation happening here. And after thinking about it, I realized something really big that equates Beth and Patrick.

For today, I’m just going to give you that as a tease. I don’t want this post to be overly long, so I’ll talk about Beth and Patrick tomorrow. For now, just know that this Tobin situation in 8x13 plays into that.  

During the fight, we also have Tara being injured. Over these episodes, one thing I haven’t touched on is that Tara and Daryl are constantly arguing about whether to kill Dwight or not. Daryl wants to, but Tara is starting to recognize that Dwight really wants to help them, etc. 

So here, Daryl sees Simon and Dwight sneaking up on Tara to kill her. (Dwight doesn’t really want to; he’s just going along with Simon to keep his cover intact.) Daryl shouts at Tara and she turns, but still gets shot in the shoulder with an arrow. After they figure out that Tobin turned because of the poisoned arrow, she’s sure she’ll die, same as the others, but she doesn’t.

So, plot-wise, this is a way to show that Dwight really is on their side. He might have shot her, but he gave her a non-fatal wound with a NOT poisoned arrow. If Simon had shot her, she would have died.

While thinking about this, I fixated somewhat the poisoning thing, especially as we’ve had so much water poisoning symbolism during S10. It occured to me that maybe we can draw a parallel between Tara and Beth here in that Tara was shot and should have died, thought she would, but didn’t. Which may have been true of Beth if she was bitten, as we believe, and was also true of Carol at Grady.

@wdway​ said she agreed with that. She pointed out that the bullet that struck Beth could be seen as her own, personal poisoned arrow. It probably should have killed her, but didn’t, because there were mitigating circumstances TF couldn’t have seen or known about. The same thing happened here. They couldn’t be sure Dwight’s arrow wouldn’t prove fatal, so they all assumed Tara would die. But she didn’t. Great insight!

@wdway​ also pointed out that, per this edit, Beth’s hand fell like Snow White’s, right? And with Snow White, it was the result of a *poisoned* apple that wouldn’t kill her, but merely rendered her unconscious for a time. So yeah, loving this connection!

The only other thing that really jumped out at me in this episode are the clocks.

As everyone settles down for the night in the HT manor house, before Tobin passes, we see a grandfather clock. It’s basically an 8:20 clock. The hands look slightly off to me, but we’re also seeing it at an angle, so that may be why. Overall, I think this is basically an 8:20 clock, which = resurrection.

So, here’s the sequence we see: First, the 8:20 clock, and then Henry steal a gun, and head out to confront the Savior prisoners. Then we see Tobin take his last breath and die. Then, we see a black, digital clock with red numbers that reads 2:13 am.

So, the idea is, that’s when he died. Then we see—get this—a FULL MOON (think Beta in S10). Then the digital clock again, reading 3:26. This is when Tobin starts biting people. 

So, to be clear, the idea is that it was an hour and 13 minutes between when he died and when he resurrected and started biting. Then we see the lady doctor up and walking around. She looks at her wristwatch (not digital) and it reads 3:57. So another half an hour has passed. (Notice that the second had points to both 8 and 20, because military time). And then Tobin bites and kills the doctor.

Then we see the 8:20 grandfather clock again. And here’s what’s weird: the grandfather clock has stopped. When it first shows it, before Henry, we hear it ticking, and the subtitles also say this. But now, several hours have passed, and not only is it still at the same time but we no longer hear it ticking. So, it has stopped at that time.

No way that’s not a purposeful, symbolic sequence. But it’s hard to tell what applies to Henry and what to Tobin. I suppose if the clock is meant to represent the same as the 8:20, resurrection, then maybe that is just more evidence that Tobin = Beth.

This may also have a connection to Patrick and Carl through Tobin and Henry (yes, I know that sounds complicated) but I’ll get to that in tomorrow’s post when I talk about Patrick.

For now, I’m thinking the clocks here just point to Tobin’s resurrection and him waking and biting people and causing chaos being part of a broader theme that’s been in play since Patrick did it in 4x02. Tune in tomorrow and I’ll get into it in more detail.

That’s all I have for this episode. Pretty interesting stuff that’s making me look at broader themes that run through the entire series, but which we couldn’t have really figured out back when S8 aired.

i told my sister "that's one of the russos!!!!!" so it took me ten seconds to realize that the russo was the gay character everyone was talking about (i thought it would be fury for no other reason than it being shocking and fury having very little to do with the plot, but)

his arc with steve felt unfinished, too. i would've liked to see steve's reaction as well, since tony had told him he wanted everyone back and also for his family so survive. but whatever

im not against tony killing thanos instead of gamora and nebula but i would've liked if we saw them react to his death, at least:/ like a little parallel between nebula's reaction at the beginning and the end of endgame

No Current Title Bc Entire Premise is Being Reevaluated (rip old title) this sucker’s premise is in its third re-write rip me and anything I had written for it before -genre is... a subset of fantasy, I guess. it involves people with magical powers  so I’m calling it fantasy subset -involves chemistry bc I’m a nerd -basic summary is chemistry powers are ok when they aren’t being used to  rebuild a “““better””” world. also violating the law of conservation of mass  makes one reconsider their career starring -amelia: starts off realizing that 3 different groups of people have manipulated her and is reasonably angry about this. “all I wanted to do is camp for the summer but NOW I have to spend it training bc soMEONE didn’t tell me about this power until they had year-round (long story involving other manipulation) access to me to train me as their asset” (”I’ll do it. but I get to go back at the end of the summer” “there’s no way you’ll pass the proficiency tests at the end of the summer--” “WATCH ME. *hyPERFOCUS ACTIVATED* great #thanksautism let’s do this”) -emer: finds out that the people who trained them aren’t actually very nice folks and needs to get out of that situation. “so that’s why my older sister left welp things make sense now”. makes enemies who are not ok people. -vina: I was trying to come up with a description but I feel like the remember the name meme would work fine

Music in Mind -all about musicians (like orchestral instruments) -genre would be contemporary I guess -mini playlist (pieces and songs that characters either play or just like listening  to): the bach double, partita no 3, read all about it, air on a g string,  mendelssohn's octet, either mission impossible or bond music haven’t decided  yet, danse bacchanale, piano man, adeste fidelis (yes the latin version listen  this character is a bit extra), ashokan farewell starring:  -katherine: parents are dead, is moving back to her hometown, and has an abusive violin teacher now. “look life it’s been like 2 years can you not--” knock knock it’s depression but this time there’s no comfort in violin/new bff to help. spent her 4 years away being remade as a violinist and no one in her hometown is quite ready for it (including her) "who tf made me section leader listen I am Not Ready and I’m p sure my stand partner is going to kill me” -felix: as of this year has have to teach himself and practice in secret. on top of that, he’s at the critical point where a lack of proper technical base is becoming a downfall. “listen katherine I know I asked you for help but is it seriously possible for me to have been doing so many things wrong for years” (”yes. bc i was the same”) -natalie: been coasting on the fact that all the top music prizes are hers but now there’s some real competition

A Book (behold my beautiful placeholder why are titles so hard) -a fantasy world based loosely on the great race (the chinese legend) -people have animal companions -Something Happened to the dragons (barely any human/dragon matches are  left) and a girl makes it her mission to (a) find out wtf is going on and (b) find  her dragon counterpart (spoiler alert: she finds a dragon but then... knock  knock it’s Consequences You Never Considered Before aka time for a huge  survival challenge/race)

Something About Dragons (yet another placeholder bc none of these things have titles ugh) (also have you noticed that I like dragons?) this one’s under wraps bc it’s still wayyyy in Development Phase -chinese dragons--they’re so lit ok (tho not literally bc no fire power) -adopted kids -a main conflict I literally haven’t even thought about lmao this is the reason it’s  fourth on my original works list, but I’m still excited about it bc DRAGONS ARE  LIT
