Look I like Roger enough, I understand what he represents and I generally don’t think he was a bad dude. I do however think he was shit at interpersonal relationships because, what the fuck. Whitebeards crew is infinitely more well adjusted and I’d say he arguably had the more traumatic death.

Like what even, what kind of planning leads a 53 year old man to sire a child knowing he is dying of an incurable illness and is about to turn himself in to be excuted by the marines where he will cause so much chaos it is literally still turning the world on its head 22 years later. He knew he was going to cause so much of a stir that he literally disbanded his crew and told them to spread far and wide to keep them safe. Because he knew the marines would hunt them far and wide But yet he still brought a baby into the world. Babe. What the fuck? What even is that? What was the thought process. I sincerely hope it was an accident and not a deliberate attempt to bring about a new era.

Because if so babe I need to see the recipe or I’m afraid we can never let you cook again

#black sails #my posts #like…I flatter myself I have a reasonably average genre fan’s tolerance for violence and gore #the rest of the show is fine for me in that respect. nothing testing my tolerance limits #but the keelhaul…really truly made me nauseous the first time around d #it’s not WHUMP. it’s specifically and distinctly to my mind NOT whump. it’s a CHARACTER DEATH #Whump is fine bc the whumpee has a certain amount of either plot armor or external purpose #the emotional undercurrents of the physical damage are what is being communicated to me - the audience #the nobility and sacrifice of the sufferer. their helplessness and submission or whatever else etc etc etc #and even if the whumpee does die the emotional undertone is still there #I usually have a specific empathetic bond with the whumpee that puts a different cast on the violence #I have NO SUCH BOND with Blackbeard so his gruesome end is just that. gruesome.#even his defiance and determination not to give Roger’s anything makes it WORSE rather than better #maybe BECAUSE I don’t like him as a character. there is no intermediary emotional layer #which is of course the point. the point is that Roger’s is committing an act worse than any pirate and he has the backing of the Law #and it’s gruesome and sickening in a way that none of the so called monsters sailing under the black have managed

Although the "once a Wammy, always a Wammy" saying is true and these orphans cannot escape from the House's surveillance for more than a few years at best even if they change everything about themselves in an attempt to do so, and although they're always ready to go against each other even if they used to be good friends back at the institution; I adore how they can always count on the other orphans to take care of the people dear to them if they ever die. It doesn't matter whether they hated each other or even killed each other, the surviving orphans will make sure the dead orphan's friends and family are never going to want for anything ever again til the day they die of old age.

#◜✧ . ❪ muse. tobias. ❫#◜✧ . ❪ muse. elijah. ❫#It might suck to be a Wammy orphan but if you're FRIENDS with one and can get over them dying... you're set for life 😭#Even if the other orphans don't actively butt into your life; they WILL watch over your safety and get rid of whoever's threatening it #and most of the time you'll be none the wiser about it. Idk Wammy's orphans have such a bittersweet but heartwarming dynamic!!!#Take Tobias for example. He WILL kill fellow Wammy orphans if he has to or is told to by Roger/L/Near; but he'll go out of his way #to protect and fund the lives of the friends/found family of the orphan/s he kills. Not out of empathy! He doesn't feel any of that #But rather out of /respect/ for those orphans. He views everyone at Wammy's as deserving of the highest praise & acts accordingly #And I feel like that's how EVERYONE at Wammy's operates. If Tobias were to die and tell Near to look out for certain people in his life #Near WOULD accept and keep his word for as long as he lives. Even tho they're not on the best of terms & have entirely different viewpoints #The people raised at Wammy's have such an intricate dynamic. They're ready to kill each other but also act as a family every so often
