Her eyes snapped up as soon as the dark lord pronounced her name in a strange tone, she wasn't exactly following the whole monologue that the now former Tom Riddle was gifting his followers. So she was oblivious at the topic connected to her name.

As she carefully scanned the room, her father, Lucius Malfoy, spoke with a worried expression on his face “B-But… my lord, she—” he tried, shutting his mouth as soon as the red eyes of the dark wizard glared slowly at him.

“I made my choice, Lucius… do you have anything to add?” He asked in a calm voice as he leaned closer, receiving just a head shake… the blonde man too scared to defend his own daughter in front of the older wizard.

When Voldemort called her name again, moving his slender fingers to indicate her to move closer.. she got up, her body shaking softly and sweating due to the fear and panic she was feeling at the worried expressions of her family.

She inhaled loudly as soon as the cold fingers of her lord brushed the side of her neck, traveling slowly down to her hips… making a grin appear on his face as her skin reacted with goosebump.

“Y/n, Y/n, Y/n… my poor little dove,” Tom cooed, moving his free hand in her hair before taking a firm grip and bending her down on the wooden table, a loud thud echoing in the room.

Every gaze was now staring at them, some were concerned, others worried and complacent… as Y/n's eyes started filling with tears, shutting tightly as the cold slender fingers lifted the skirt of her dress so that they could rest on her covered ass cheeks.

“My little dove, you know why I'm doing this, right?” Her lord cooed again, starting to knead her flesh harshly “I need a young cunt with a body that could carry strong heirs in it, hm” he continued while covering her now naked lower half with his cape, which swallowed the sinful act perfectly.

The death eaters had just a perfect view of the young witch’s face which showed clear fear and worry.

They could see Tom’s hand moving under the cape, silence except for noises of metal caused by his belt hitting the floor… sounds that made them stare more intently.

Some started to look away while others kept focusing on them, admiring how the older man leaned down to whisper in her ear something that remained between them before her front body hit the table harshly.

A loud whimper escaped her mouth as soon as she collided with the wooden surface, her hands grabbed into whatever she could reach as an uncomfortable whimper broke the silence.

A soft light of a spell appeared from under the fabric and little time after that her whole body jolted forward, her head hitting the table as well.

Given by the dark lord’s expression of pleasure and hers of pain the dark wizards knew that was happening.

His movements were clear and the noises loud, his thick long cock kept forcing her walls open, as he pulled almost completely out so that his tip was the only thing inside of her.

Soft whimpers kept leaving her pretty mouth, tears kept running down her face wetting her young skin as she took everything her idol was giving her.

Both were still breathing heavily as the young witch took a couple of deep breaths, falling slowly down, her bare knees hitting the cold floor of her family Mansion.

“Lovely… You have such a wonderful and useful daughter, Lucius” The dark lord murmured in a mocking tone, petting softly her hair while staring deeply in her father’s eyes, who was still at the table

“Make sure she will be there next week, for the next… encounter” he ordered, taking a grip on her hair to move her head easily, so that her eyes could meet his piercing red ones “I will see you later, dove”.

His voice was smooth and tempting, a contrast to the rough actions that just happened… his caress feeling almost soft and loving even if his stare was just communicating pure possessiveness and domination.

Kanae's 100+ follower event (format based off of @theolivetree123's Welcome to Halloween Town event ^^) The Evil’s Theater, a small theater, in the Queendom of Roses, is hosting their first musical of Seven Sins and Punishments. Originally, the theater was created by a man known as the Collector, he only screened a single film. After he passed the theater fell into disarray, but luckily, it was brought back to life by some very generous donations. And now they have reached out to NRC to extend an invitation for its students to be the leads of their first musical! The lucky students will take on the roles of the Sinners in a fantastical story of life, death and rebirth. There will be seven students to fill the roles of the main Sinners, and a raffle to be held to pick the crucial role of the Servant, a hidden eighth Sinner. And the lead roles are… Superbia - Kanae (The Daughter) Invidia - Riddle (The Tailor) Ira - Jade (The Nemesis) Acedia - Epel (The Princess) Avaritia - Idia (The Judge) Gula - Deuce (The Eater) Luxuria - Silver (The Duke)

After the musical, there's going to be an after party, Waltz of the Departed. Feel free to partake in the snacks and drinks, dance or not to your hearts content. How you enjoy the party is up to you!

Other characters switch roles as well - Luida and Rem, Livio and Wolfwood, each retaining their unique selves. The symbolism of the purple hyacinth and little details like Tesla's love of lemon-cake really make this. Tesla is a rougher kind of heroic desperado, being more nuanced, rougher and less absolutist than Vash, making for an amazing ride. (The first tale, centered on Luida and little Vash, though, will break your heart). Canon-typical violence and abuses of children and science. General AU Sun, Moon and Stars by @tragic-unpaired-electron Summary: At a crucial moment, Rem does something crazy to save baby Tesla and the entire universe changes. Their mission? To find an extract a certain Vash the Stampede, who is up on the auction block as a slave to the highest bidder. Shenanigans ensue. Canon-typical violence / un-fun use of a cattle-prod on our poor Vash. Just Follow My Yellow Light (And Ignore All Those Big Warning Signs) by haveloved Summary: In the aftermath of Vash getting hurt, Wolfwood notices that Meryl hasn't eaten. Milly usually helps her remember to eat. Just a little story about self-care and others-care. Canon-typical violence. WTF? Aaaah! Why did someone write this? / are people going to look at me weird for reading this? Aaaaaaaah! Horror. Sin Eaters by @dragonofeternal Summary: There is an old tradition Vash read of once wherein a ritual meal is consumed to absolve the sins of the deceased. Livio, however, was Wolfwood's first friend and does not intend on letting Vash dine alone. BIG WARNING HERE! This was written for Trigun Body Horror Week. NOT for the faint of heart or the weak of stomach! While I think this is the best story to come out of Trigun Body Horror Week... it is... just that. This one's for gore-fiends - outdoes canon.

A very basic, SPOILER FREE guide to understanding Evillious for casual fans

Basically this is exactly what the title says. This is a guide to understanding Evillious and what it’s about for people only casually interested in the series without A) presenting all of the information as confusingly as possible, B) exposing them to every single spoiler and plot twist in the narrative, or C) requiring someone to read hundreds of wiki pages or 13+ novels worth of story. Note that because I am reducing spoilers as much as possible, some of this information may be “incorrect” (as in, it presents information that’s given by the story as true, only to be later revealed as false).

Guide is under the cut. I will attempt to make this friendly for people with a poor attention span like myself but no promises.

Series Labels

First off, a break-down of the terms you’ll see fans throw around for the series and what they mean or are used for. This is not all-encompassing, but these are the most common you’ll see out there.

Evillious Chronicles/Evillious----This is the label that English-speaking fans use for the overall series. Note that this is, from what I can gather, an entirely fandom term, and is not used in any official capacity. Most Japanese fans will call it the 悪ノ series (the “of Evil” series).

Arcs----This is a fan term often used to refer to specific points in Evillious’ chronology where a song or novel takes place. Lunacy of Duke Venomania is “Lust Arc”, Evil Food Eater Conchita is "Gluttony Arc" Daughter of Evil is “Pride Arc”, Gift from the Princess who Brought Sleep and Fifth, Pierrot are “Sloth Arc”, Judgment of Corruption and Muzzle of Nemesis is “Greed/Wrath/Grath Arc”, etc.

Story of Evil/Daughter of Evil----While Story of Evil will sometimes be used to refer to Evillious as a whole, and in fact is the name of a children’s series mothy has written which does not take place in Evillious, generally when people use either of these terms they are referring to the events that take place in the “Daughter of Evil” songs. As a note, Daughter of Evil is the official name of mothy’s first novel series that adapts these songs (the series that begins with Cloture of Yellow).

Seven Deadly Sins/Deadly Sins of Evil----This is a term used to refer to the parts of Evillious that revolve around the deadly sin contractors and their actions in the classic songs by mothy--Daughter of Evil, Lunacy of Duke Venomania, Evil Food Eater Conchita, Gift from the Princess Who Brought Sleep, The Tailor of Enbizaka, Judgment of Corruption, and Muzzle of Nemesis. And more specifically, Deadly Sins of Evil refers to mothy’s second novel series that adapts these songs (and begins with Lunacy of Duke Venomania).

Original Sin Story/OSS: This refers to anything that takes place during Evillious’ chronological beginning. Note that while content relating to these events was released for a long time in songs and album booklets, it is only very recently that the novels adapting them were released, so some people discussing it may be referring to the former, but not the latter.

VOCALOID

The vast majority of characters in Evillious that you are likely familiar with from the songs are based off of VOCALOID characters in design, and “voiced” by them in the songs. Note though that multiple characters can be based off of the same VOCALOID, so fans will usually insist on referring to them by their character names rather than the VOCALOID that they are based on. Fans can usually tell who is who by context, but even without it, you can usually tell them apart by their unique clothing designs or specific hairstyles.

Setting

The series takes place primarily in a region called Evillious, on a continent called Bolganio. Evillious is roughly analogous to Europe, with many of its countries being counterpart to ones in the real world.

The most obvious ones are Lucifenia=France, Elphegort=Germany, Marlon=Britain, Beelzenia=Italy/Spain, Asmodean=Arabian Peninsula, Levianta=Russia. Note that Tailor of Enbizaka does NOT take place in Evillious, but rather a country to the far east called Jakoku. Jakoku=Japan.

For clarification’s sake, when I say Evillious, I am referring to the series as a whole, NOT the region in which most of the series takes place.

Evillious will share events in its history that are roughly analogous to those in our own world. The most clear-cut example is the events of Daughter of Evil, which mirror the French Revolution. However, Evillious’ history takes place in a compressed timeline--it spans the length of only one thousand years--and so there is much that is blended together or shifted around. Another clear-cut example of this is that the Age of Exploration is merged into the Victorian era during the events of Gift From the Princess Who Brought Sleep.

As the series covers 1000 years, there is a very large cast of characters and a huge set of political developments that are only barely touched on in the songs. Be advised--All but two of the main Seven Deadly Sin songs take place in completely different countries and time periods to each other (the exceptions being Judgment of Corruption and Muzzle of Nemesis).

Religion/Worldbuilding

There are a handful of belief systems in Evillious, but key for the setting (and for later plot developments) is the Levin faith. This religion has multiple branches, but it is, as might be expected, roughly equivalent to Christianity. ...Sort of.

The beliefs of the Levin faith describe the world as having been created by 4 main gods. The Earth God, Held (otherwise referred to as the Millennium Tree), the Sun God, Sickle, and the twin-headed dragon god, LeviaBehemo (or rather, the twin gods, Levia and Behemo). The most popular denomination of the Levin faith, the “Levia sect”, posits that LeviaBehemo is the only true god, and that all others are “false or evil gods”.

Bear in mind that all of these figures do genuinely exist in the world itself, even if their true nature is not as the Levin faith describes.

Also worth noting that in addition to their big 4 gods, there are also the 62 “god kin”, which exist in the setting as a collection of spirits that live under Held’s protection in the Millennium Tree forest in Elphegort.

The Levin faith posits that the world was created by the main gods as the third attempt at creating a paradise, the last two having been destroyed by malice/HER (we’ll get to that later). For this reason, the timeline of Evillious is referred to as the Third Period, with the previous two attempts being the First Period and Second Period.

Many fan guides will go into more detail on the First and Second Period, but this is huge spoiler content and absolutely unnecessary to understanding most of Evillious’ plot.

History

Disclaimer: You do not need to know ANY of this History section beforehand to understand the early books in the series or most of the songs.

Related to Evillious’ religion, its 1000 year history begins with what they call the Magic Kingdom Levianta (NOT the same thing as modern Levianta), which is roughly analogous to the Roman Empire, and the originator of the Levin faith. This kingdom was a highly advanced society run by magical individuals, with technology that was fueled by said magic. This technology came from relics found under the kingdom--these are said to be remains of the society their gods came from.

This is, for reference, the time period where Original Sin Story takes place.

At this time in their history Magic Kingdom Levianta was suffering from a problem with HER syndrome--short for Hereditary Evil Raiser. This is a genetic trait that hails from the Second Period, also sometimes referred to as Malice. Those born with it take joy in committing acts of violence and destruction, and generally sought to destroy society’s mores and norms (with a broader goal of destroying the world). Some key HER individuals in the series also express a desire to make more people like themselves through various means.

Levianta’s queen gave a prophecy that the world would be destroyed by the ark “Sin” (a vessel that the kingdom was built around) if they did not produce a set of twins for Levia and Behemo to incarnate into (referred to as the Twins of God). As a result, the senate created Project ‘Ma’ (Ma being short for Mem Aleph), which sought to use women with high magical potential to give birth to these twins.

The project failed. The only set of twins produced by it, named Hansel and Gretel, were taken away by their mother before Levia and Behemo could incarnate in them, and they become regularly occurring characters in the series. The twins were later kidnapped from their mother (who is herself killed) by a woman called Eve, a previous candidate in Project ‘Ma’. This act is referred to in-universe as the Original Sin, which later results in the formation of the Demons of Sin by Hansel and Gretel.

Magic Kingdom Levianta is eventually destroyed when the “Sin” ark blows up, setting back civilization by centuries and eliminating almost (but not quite) all of the population of people who are capable of and well-trained in using magic.

Demons of Sin and Magic

The Demons of Sin are presented as a collection of 7 demons that cause the major events of the Seven Deadly Sins songs by possessing the characters who carry them out (though they do possess other, less noteworthy people over the course of the series). They take the form of various monstrous animals in their “true” form, but their physical forms are actually the seven Vessels of Deadly Sin in which they reside. These vessels (which take the form of various objects such as a wineglass, a sword, mirrors, etc) are passed around by many, many hands over the course of the series, and show up frequently even if they are not the main demon of focus.

As you might expect, they correspond to each of the 7 Deadly Sins as detailed in the Bosch painting, “The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things” (with the Four Last Things relating to Evillious’ “ending”, which is an advanced spoiler concept there’s no need to go over.)

People can form contracts with them, which grant them special powers and immunities until the contract is broken. One of these abilities includes being able to transform into a being with features of the demon they are possessed by, such as having six wings or goat horns. While the demons are capable of influencing a person’s behavior, they usually do not outright control them save for in specific instances in the series, leaving most of these characters culpable for their own actions while possessed.

The magic rules of the series overall are a bit too complicated to go into in brief, but to get some idea of what it entails, there’s classic magic ideas like glyphs, rituals, and spells, as well spell-songs, body-swapping, enhanced physical abilities, homunculi, mind control, and reincarnation. Only a select few characters in the series can use magic (though many of them are main characters or protagonists), and the fantasy elements become sparser as Evillious modernizes (usually being replaced by soft sci-fi elements instead).

Ending

I won’t go into this much because it is, as the title suggests, the ending, but the world of Evillious does eventually get destroyed at the end of its one thousand years due to the actions of Nemesis, one of the Seven Deadly Sins characters. The actual destruction is not the ending--it’s what occurs afterwards that concludes the series.

Key Characters

I will not be making an exhaustive list on every important character in the series, because the cast is absolutely enormous, but here is a brief handful to give you an idea.

Eve: The “Original Sinner”--a sorceress who was responsible for kidnapping Hansel and Gretel, which is the catalyst behind the release of the Demons of Sin, and as such, most of the series events. Her story is a fair bit more complex than I’m making it sound (there are other characters, like Adam, who are equally if not more to blame), but this is the short version that you’re given through much of the series.

Elluka: A series-wide protagonist of the story. She is a sorceress from the Magic Kingdom Levianta who is functionally immortal, and seeks to collect the Vessels of Deadly Sin. She shows up in pretty much every major arc of the series.

Allen: Another series-wide protagonist, albeit a contentious one among fans. He has been in the series since the beginning, as he is the “Servant of Evil” in the Daughter of Evil series, but chronologically he was only present halfway through Evillious’ timeline. He doesn’t take an active role until later, but he witnesses much of the story’s events.

Seth: A scientist who is one of the main “villains” of the series, albeit one who is fairly inactive as an antagonist. He is responsible for the spread of HER in the Magic Kingdom, the creation of the Demons of Sin by Hansel and Gretel, and other things besides.

Irina/Red Cat Mage: Another series-wide villain, she serves as Elluka’s foil in that she is also a sorceress from Magic Kingdom Levianta who is functionally immortal and seeks to sow chaos and destruction using the Demons of Sin in every major arc of the series.

Narrative

The series can be described as a broad mix of science fiction and fantasy, generally aimed at teenagers in terms of its content level but varying wildly in terms of how light-hearted or dark it can be depending on each installment. Despite being generally non-graphic as a rule, it can cover an astonishingly wide range of upsetting topics including (but not limited to) rape, incest, parental abuse, cannibalism, body horror, genocide, and exploitation, so those who are of a sensitive disposition regarding the fiction they consume may wish to keep their distance.

In addition to the obvious point that almost all of the main cast are based heavily on VOCALOID characters, the series makes frequent use of cultural references to the Abrahamic faiths and European culture. Mothy himself is a Japanese Buddhist (at least, as I recall, he stated he was Buddhist on twitter once when asked his religion) who enjoys video games and anime, and his writing reflects that too.

In terms of order, there’s a lot of contention over which viewing/reading order is “best” for new fans to get into the series with. I personally have always pushed for release order--that is, the order in which mothy released his songs and published his novels. Evillious is at its easiest to understand in Daughter of Evil, the novel series released first, as the first two novels feature very little of the backstory, magic, or demons, and focuses instead on interpersonal relationships and political drama (drama which mirrors the French Revolution, and as such is relatively easy to understand as well). Things become gradually more complicated over time, allowing the reader to learn information organically as they get more invested, rather than dumping it on them all at once.

Many fans have argued that chronological order is best, largely on the basis that the release order of the series is not the chronological order. I strongly disagree with this. For reference, the chronological beginning of the series is the most recently released installment, so this wasn’t even possible to do for most of the series’ run.

In general though, there’s 60+ songs in the series, so don’t freak out if you don’t watch them in exactly release order. While the novels are pretty important to read in order, the songs were made with the assumption that people would miss some of them or view some before they were supposed to. Note though that there’s a handful of songs that require novel knowledge to know what’s going on (to list only one example, Handbeat Clocktower was made essentially to advertise Praefacio of Blue).

I have been thinking about Alisaie again and I just. Have an ache over how terrified she is of losing people she loves.

I also really do love how insanely protective of the WoL she is, as much as hurts how desperate she is for you not to leave her.

That antagonism toward loss is such a recurring element throughout her story. Her fear of losing the WoL comes up frequently, and she's shown to be much more overtly afraid of harm coming to them than most of the other Scions (not that the others don't also worry, Alisaie's just so loud about it.) Which, personally, I really like about her. She may idolize the WoL, but she never forgets that they're human, too.

Anyway, this is a theme for her from the very beginning, and Alisaie is faced with a major loss in every. single. expansion. Her grandfather, Emery, the Call taking the Scions, Tesleen, and Ultima Thule. And throughout those she learns to keep her heart open nonetheless, to keep trying, to keep caring. That's what she tells the Endsinger. "We take each other's hand. Share in each other's courage. Follow in each other's footsteps. And turn sorrow into strength!"

I'm gonna shove some rambles and a BUNCH of quotes under the cut, here, because they make me emotional and I like having them in one place. This isn't all of them, but it's some of the one's that stuck out to me most in my 95987324876423 screenshots (since Tumblr only lets me put in 30 per post >_> )

The Coils of Bahamut, where she begins to hope her Grandad is still alive, only to find his body has been possessed and turned into a tool for his enemy, and the man she loved is beyond saving, and that his body is now a puppet being used to try to kill her...

The loss of Emery in "A Malm in Her Shoes" official short story, when Alisaie shuts down and stops looking for companionship:

Later, when you have to kill "Tesleen", if you run the dungeon with Alisaie in your party, at the end of it she will be facing back down the road, where her friend's body was, and wishing her a peaceful rest. (And if Alphinaud is also there, he will notice, too)

Then, when the Fuath kidnap and attempt to drown you, she searches for you frantically:

When the Light in you starts to break free and the WoL collapses, she's the first to speak, "Are you alright? Say something!" and is also the first of those gathered to take even a step toward you. She doesn't walk, she runs, and only stops when the Exarch interferes - but she's immediately ready to throw hands with him too when she starts to think he means harm:

She lashes out in frustration when trying to find a way to save the WoL from the Light doesn't turn up anything

By Endwalker, you can see how much she's opened up to the WoL and the rest of the Scions. How she invites you to join her around Sharlayan, surprises you with food, and is just generally so much more open and happy.

After you go missing in Garlemald, her and G'raha are the only two who run to meet the WoL on the road when they're spotted returning to camp.

And when you don't answer immediately, she asks if you're alright, with a much softer concern.

If you speak to her before chasing after Fandaniel and Zenos in the Tower, a battle you will have to undertake alone, she will give you some bonus dialogue and pray in front of the WoL:

If she's the one that visits you the night after returning from the Moon, she has a really touching bit of dialogue to offer the WoL (if you have not watched this cutscene please go to the Unending Journey book to replay it and pick the Alisaie route, there's so much inflection the text just can't capture):

And once she's out of the WoL's immediate view she SPRINTS away, she's the only potential visitor who will do that, as if opening up to you so much was still frightening and her courage only lasted so long.

Finally at Ultima Thule, as your friends are taken one by one, she gets progressively more distressed... (I am running out of image space so I'll type a couple of the shorter ones)

"Y'shtola, no! You mustn't!"

I wish I could post the whole cutscene here but - in Endsinger, when you send your friends away, the amount of screen time dedicated to showing Alisaie realize what you are about to do, and begging you not to do it. The shock and desperation as she recognizes that you're taking away any chance she has at fighting by your side - at protecting you. That same outstretched hand:

And when she thinks you're going to die...

“[Sobbing] You can’t leave us... Not like this... If you do, I’ll never forgive you… So come on! Open your eyes and get up!”

Of all the companions fighting desperately to revive them and call the WoL back, her's is first the voice the WoL hears clearly through the fog, too. It's the first uninterrupted line and actually gets a text box, where the half-finished fuzzy sentences you hear companions shout before do not. If Dynamis played a part in bringing you back, her desperation may well have been a tipping point.

And then she sounds angry enough through the tears that she might just murder you again anyway

I could probably fit another 30 in here but those are some big ones.

I think it's a big part of what makes Alisaie such a favorite of mine, the struggle she goes through and the courage she has to keep caring anyway - something you can go back and see her learn throughout the series.

Do you think there'll ever be a chance of more Evillious Chronicles songs being added to the game? We have Servant/Daughter of Evil (Len and Rin), Evil Food Eater Conchita (Meiko), Judgement of Corruption (Kaito), Gift From the Princess Who Brought Sleep (Miku), The Tailor of Enbizaka (Luka) and Waltz of the Deceased which isn't connected to any particular character.

We have the songs for all the main sins in the story, bar Gakupo with the "Lunacy of Duke Venomania" and Gumi with "The Muzzle of Nemesis".

Do you think there's a chance of those songs being added, or any other songs from the series?

my guess based on the last batch being added with the rerun is that we'll only get more if they rerun the gacha again or do a second collab. but who knows, maybe they'll just do a general mothy song campaign at some point?

Part I

TW: abusive relationship, emotional abuse, gaslighting, Max at his worst, blathering about his twisted religious beliefs

You and Max are at the gas station. It’s early afternoon, and Max decides to stop to refuel. You get out of the car to stretch your legs. You look around in apathy and spot a lonely phone booth in the corner. You reach it and stare at the phone, hesitant.

Things have gone so fast since you ran off with Max. You had a good time with him, but the last few weeks have been difficult, and that initial sense of joy you felt in the first few days has suddenly vanished. Now you just feel numb and you don’t even know why.

You and Max are always on the road, never stopping and always driving. You feel homesick, you wonder how your parents are doing and if they’re still thinking about you. A part of you longs to return home, but your heart only beats faster when Max is nearby. You don’t want to leave him, you don’t want to return home and be trapped in that awful situation. Max has become your drug: your body needs him, your mind literally hangs on his lips, even though you know very well he’s a destructive force, a hurricane, and yet…

You sigh deeply and pick up the phone. Your hands are shaking, but you dial your home phone number anyway. You don’t have to wait long, your father’s voice on the other end sounds so distant that you can’t speak. You don’t know what to say and immediately regret calling him. You start whimpering, and suddenly Max is next to you, hanging up the phone on your behalf.

“You don’t need ‘em.” he says as he wraps you in a protective hug and lightly smoothes your hair. You can’t help but keep sobbing uncontrollably.

“I know you’re homesick, but I’m your home now. Remember when you told me you weren’t happy back home? Your folks wouldn’t understand our special connection… You're a lost soul, and I’m the best thing that ever happened to you. I bring meaning to your life.”

You sniff as he kisses your forehead in order to calm you down.

“Stop crying, sweetheart! Daddy doesn’t want to see you like this, y’know that… Daddy's here for you, babe. I’m here to save you.”

You look up at him. He’s so sweet, yet you find him repulsive in a way. He's always been good with words. It’s like he’s inside your mind, controlling it every time. His charisma mesmerizes you, and he uses your body whenever he likes.

His fingers stroke your pretty face; he softly smiles and coos gentle words into your ears.

He wants to save you. Save you from what exactly? You still don’t know. He keeps blathering about sin and temptation, redemption and rebirth, quoting Bible verses and psalms at every opportunity. You find him annoying, but you lack the courage to disagree with him. You know perfectly well how very important religion is to him. And yet there are times when you just want to scream, yell at him, punch him in the face, but you remain still and silent, dying inside day by day.

Except for yesterday evening, when you had, as he calls them, one of your tantrums.

Max was teasing you as usual, and you, surprisingly, stood up and yelled at him. “I’m not your fucking daughter, Max! You can’t tell me what to do!” you hit him in the chest several times until he held your wrists to stop you. “You're a hypocrite!” you screamed before collapsing in his arms, utterly wrecked.

Max was taken aback, but he didn’t lose his temper. On second thought, you would have preferred he had. He gently chastised you, pretending to be sorry. “I’m hurt, honey. But I know this isn’t the real you, the true you. I forgive you.”

And last night, things eventually got out of hand. You were overwhelmed by his superhuman strength and unable to rebel against him.

Suddenly a sense of nausea pervades you, and you throw up your lunch right in front of him. You feel so ashamed, but Max is holding you even though you try to refuse his help. He hands you his bottle of water and you take a little sip.

Max talks to you softly, but you can't hear him. You are so pale and dizzy, muttering, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry…”

“Sssh, don’t worry, honey. Lemme take care of ya’.” he says as he helps you get in the car, headed for a motel.

The next thing you recall is the softness of the bed as Max helps you lay down. “Ya’ need to rest. I’m gonna prepare you a bath, alright?”

You keep your eyes closed; your head is still spinning. A few minutes later, you feel Max undress you, lift you up, and carry you in his strong arms before dunking you in the bathtub. The water is lukewarm, and he starts gently rubbing your back with a sponge.

“Does it still hurt?” he asks, gently touching the bruise on your arm. You shake your head no.

“I’m sorry if I hurt you last night. Y’know Daddy’s one hell of an animal and I must admit it: I got too rough on ya’. But you must understand that I was disappointed… It was for your own good, y’know that, right? Daddy’s needed to tame you in order to teach you a lesson. A valuable lesson. But I’ve already forgiven you, hun. That’s all that matters.”

You reach for his hand and intertwine your fingers with his.

He keeps rubbing your legs and your chest, then he strokes your cheek. “You feelin’ any better?”

You open your eyes and nod.

“I know it’s been a big few weeks, but you’re doing so great! Don’t give up just now. Your folks rejected you and I took you in when you had no one. Remember what I told ya’ before?”

You look at him, clueless.

“There’s no judging here. Just a search for truth. Have I ever judged you?”

“No...” you whisper.

“Have I ever been angry at you?”

“No, Max...”

“Have I ever forced you into anything?”

“No.”

“No, exactly. Your folks instead—they judged you, they got plenty angry at you, didn't they? They didn't care about your happiness. I do. But y'know, every man carries a circle of hell around his head like a halo. Every man has to go through hell to reach his paradise. And I’m here for you, I’m your anchor, your Beacon of Light guiding you through darkness. Do you believe in me? ‘Cause I believe in you. Remember what I told you last night?”

“That I was—I was like the lost sheep returning to the fold.”

He smiles at you kindly. “Now, let’s get you dried off and dressed. You must be starving, sweetie.”

You and Max are at the diner. You were so hungry that you ate up your whole meal. You are feeling better now and your face is no longer pale.

“Can I get you anything else?” the waitress asks, looking directly at Max and staring at his tattoos.

“No, we’re good, doll.” Max answers with barely a glance at her, too busy reading his Bible and smoking his cigar.

“Max, I need to—” you say as you get up to use the bathroom. Max simply nods but actually raises his eyes and watches you as you walk away.

When you pass by the counter, the waitress starts chatting with you. “Your father—he’s so cool with all those tattoos…”

“He’s not my father…” you mumble, annoyed.

“Sorry, what did you say?”

“Uhm, he is... I mean, I'm his...”

“Ah, sorry, just—just one sec.” the waitress rolls her eyes and walks into the kitchen.

...his little girl, you answer in your mind. You sigh deeply and reach the bathroom. You look in the mirror and start worrying. You feel bad about before, for thinking all those horrible things about Max and treating him so badly last night. He's been so sweet and nice to you this afternoon.

Again, you feel that sense of nausea. Something’s wrong, you know that. And you can’t help but feel ashamed and guilty. All your doubts and insecurities surface once more. What are you even doing with someone like Max? Why do you keep staying with him? He could be your father, even the waitress thinks so, too. You could leave him and return home, but you know you prefer to remain by his side. And then it hits you: you’ve nowhere to go. You’ve no one but Max.

When you come out of the bathroom, you can’t believe your eyes: the waitress is flirting with Max. He’s smiling, but you know it’s a phony smile. You know how he despises that kind of girls, which he calls them ''sluts'' or ''whores''. You keep staring at them; the waitress is literally wrapped around his little finger, and Max pretends to care about her, until you realize that Max is actually looking at you, out of the corner of his eye. He’s testing you.

You feel so jealous, and you start to panic. You would like to tell her off, but you know how much Max hates arguing in public, so you walk over to the table and grab your rucksack.

“I need some fresh air…” you say, desperately trying to make eye contact with Max. The waitress barely looks at you and continues to flirt with him.

“Alright, babe. Just don’t go far.” he replies.

You make your way to the red Mustang and wait for Max. You can clearly see him, still talking to that girl. Please, Max... come back to me. I need you.

Suddenly the girl’s face changes expression, and her eyes tenses up. Max gets up and walks out of the diner, visibly irritated.

You turn around and you jolt as he kisses your neck.

“You alright?” he asks as you sit in the car.

“What did you tell her?” you can’t help but ask him.

He’s glad you asked. “Who? Who are you talking about?—oh, I see. That unclean and corrupt girl. Well, I told her that I already found a companion for that long walk to the light.”

You secretly smile, but Max lifts your chin so you can look at him. “For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. James 3:16” he quotes by heart. “Don’t be jealous, there’s no use. Instead, you should pray for her as I do.” he kisses you slowly. “It’s getting late, darlin’. Let’s move.”

Back in your motel room, you keep watching out the window. You know he tricked you into thinking he was going to flirt with that girl, but deep down you feel so stupid for being so jealous of that girl. You feel so insecure, despite Max reassuring you.

“C'mere, darling.”

You ignore him, so Max gets up and hugs you from behind.

“There’s no one out there waiting for you. Everything you need is right here, in my arms.” he wraps his arms around you and you rest your head on his chest. You inhale his scent and close your eyes.

“You can’t live without me.” he coos as you feel his erection pulsing against you. Your body responds automatically. You're so addicted to him, and he knows that. Yes, he does.

He’s right, you know he’s damn right. He controls your body, he’s manipulating your mind, and soon it will be your soul’s turn. You’ll end up worshipping him fully and blindly, as cult members worship their leader. In the end, you’ll be his forever.

“You. Can’t. Live. Without. Me.” he repeats again. You’re too confused to realize it’s actually a threat.

“We had a long, difficult day…why don’t we go to bed, huh?”

You lie down on the bed as he towers over you.

Yesterday you failed, today you failed again, and tomorrow… perhaps tomorrow you’ll have the strength to leave him for good.

He presses his thumb against your lips, and you open your mouth and suck it unconsciously. “Good girl, you’re learning… you’re as meek as a lamb.” he smiles at you, stroking your cheek.

“Tomorrow you’ll learn a psalm for me. The one you like best. If you can learn it by heart, you’ll get your reward. Would you do it for Daddy? Would you make Daddy happy? I know you will. But for now...”

“...for now, Daddy’s gonna take care of you.” he says as he unbuckles his belt.

I think Ran’jit was a Very Cool Villain actually but no one talks about it. Clearly the solution to this is to make him a babygirl and I’m willing to do it.

Non-joke rambling abt this Old Man under the cut bc he goes through So Much More than people give him credit for.

[This meta was written before the new Ran’jit-focused short story was released, and I have not updated it accordingly, though there is little that conflicts with it]

[shaking people who misinterpret him] Ran'jit is NOT simply a stuck up old man he is a dad heartbroken over his daughters dying time and time again. He’s had to outlive so many of them and its even worse that he's partially at fault for their deaths since he taught them to fight.

“Who armed you? Trained you? Fought and killed a thousand sin eaters with you!? And when you were inevitably cut down and lay lifeless in my arms─who sought out your successor to carry on the futile struggle again and again!?”

He can't let Ryne learn. She'll die like the rest of them. They always do no matter how hard he trains them -- again and again and again. The only solution is to keep her from fighting altogether. Reject Minfilia’s harsh burden for these poor girls so they can at least live. It’s a bitter task, but what parent wants to outfit their child for war and then their inevitable death?

The first idolizes the Minfilias and accepts sending young maidens to their doom as a necessary evil, but Ran’jit realizes how cruel it is to place the weight of the world onto them, especially when they can’t truly win. What is the point? No amount of dead sin eaters will actually save the world, they just keep coming back and reforming and killing and killing and--

You can actually read a translation of the JP version of one of the quests here, and I do like parts of it more. Particularly Ryne’s answer, the focus on memories ties in so well to Eden. The fact that she tells Ran’jit “I know there is pain, but the outside world is important enough for me that it makes the pain worth it. It will hurt me more if I simply go back to my cell.” In addition, the localization makes it seem like Ran’jit hates Minfilia? While JP makes it more clear that he wants her to be safe.

I really like the Eulmore villains, as their motivations are born of desperation in a doomed world. Is it wrong to seek a semblance of peace rather than fight an endless war against light? As far as anyone knew, there was no way to resolve the way sin eaters reform. It takes a hero pulled from another world that a majority of people are unaware of to actually get rid of them. If not for that, their path could have been the path of least pain -- if only it weren’t purporting a class divide and abuse of the lower class.
