I haven’t fallen in love with fictional characters and the world that they inhabit the way I have with Victoriocity in YEARS. It genuinely makes me feel like a kid again, the way I got when I was reading Harry Potter for the first time and the universe just was slowly unfolding and I wanted to know everything about it outside of the main storyline. And then you have the pitch perfect humor and characters I AM VERY DEEPLY INVESTED IN that are in the most perfect Victorian slow burn of all time where I KNOW SOMETHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN EVENTUALLY BUT ITS GOING TO TAKE YEARS AND ILL BE HANGING ON TO A DARCY HAND FLEX MOMENT FOR DEAR LIFE UNTIL IT DOES, and you got me hook, line and sinker.
But seriously, it’s well written. It engages in some trope but does so in a way that only good writing can where expectation is subverted and then not that that is surprising and delightful, The pacing is excellent. The world they’ve created is completely original but totally familiar which grounds the characters and the plot.
Anyway, I bought three copies of High Vaultage (audio, ebook and special edition hard copy of course), finished it, binged season three and now I need the link to the kickstarter for the next project because I NEED MORE. This is just going to be a fan account until then.

I’ve seen it firsthand. It was the same with Andy. He took Katie and there was nothing I could do about it.

To your "never watched 2019" anon, please let them know, I will keep them company in the club 😂 Couldn't do it then. Can't do it now. The Vic SL started out strong and initially the Robron SL accompanying it was solid as well. Robert struggling with his guilt of not being able to protect his sister and being "very Robert" about the situation. Aaron challenging Robert on his stance and bringing his own story to make Robert understand, Vic standing here ground, Diane being the confused mediator that she always was, Aaron being a friend to Vic etc. Those early days have us some quite intense and honest to God complex sls that tested Domestic Robron as a couple. And Ryan and Danny were absolutely stupendously brilliant in them. Personally, I rate some of those fight scenes to be equally enjoyable as some of the 2016 SLs. And it was genuinely a welcome relief after the clumsy way in which Emmerdale had decided to resurrect the surrogacy SL. Robron having to make that choice between supporting their sisters or paying for the surrogacy, dividing up their responsibilities and chores showed how the couple had matured into husband|husband from affair era Robron. It was beautiful, deep, very Robron and not entirely badly crafted/written.
Then the news broke. And I remember that it was the first time I knew what the phrase "being hit by a ton of bricks" meant. And it didn't help that the SL kept getting more and more ridiculous. Somehow, the village with Dingles, Sugdens was completely powerless against Lee!!🙆‍♀️Aaron was reduced to being almost a sidekick in some of those fight scenes with Lee, which made no sense, and most scenes were about Robert and Vic and not Robron in the Mill!! If it wasn't for Ryan and Danny's powerful acting in those handful of scenes that focused on Robron... Anyway, I gave up. It hurt too much. And now, all that SL leading up to Robert being incarcerated and Aaron moving on has been put in question by Emmerdale themselves, so I don't need to watch it! 😂🤣 Didn't stop me yelling at the show though. There is a part of me, I think that will always be sad that Robron didn't get their story. Aaron being there for Robert and Robert coping in prison and how they keep the family together for 14 years (or less) is a sl that was made for Robron. They would get through it. I know they would have. They are it for each other. And they know it. I don't care what anybody says.
You're right and you should say it, anon. But honestly, every problem you (and I and everyone with half a brain) had with the shitshow that was the second half of 2019... it's all to blame on this asshole (affectionate)

So if he could just stop climbing coconut trees and filming capybaras for a bit and come back as Robert, that would be grand!

Only this fandom could make Robert’s prison arrangements into a research topic. I love you all.

Oh yeah cause that’s what you do isn’t it? Take the blame. Makes you feel good doesn’t it? No. No no I think it does, playing the martyr, I mean that’s why you cut yourself isn’t it? You get off on it, all this suffering.
Ok so here you have Aaron and Robert who are both drowning in guilt in the wake of Katie’s death, they’re both visibly struggling with it all, neither of them is coping
They have one common enemy here: guilt. But what’s fascinating is the contrast between the way they’re handling it.
On the one hand you have Robert, who is absolutely feeling the guilt but who pushes it away to keep going. At times you can tell he wants to break but he can’t afford to. He takes it and he takes it and he powers through it and he dissociates even if it drives him mad and even if it turns him into something he doesn’t want to be because he’s wired in a way that puts self-preservation above everything else. And guilt? It’s counterproductive to self-preservation.
And on the other hand you have Aaron who takes the guilt, even more than he has to and he is consumed by it. He feels it and he feels it too much. So much so that he has to tell the truth, he has to do the right thing even if it hurts him because he can’t handle the guilt. And not only is he being righteous about it but he’s hurting himself with it, he punishes himself for it. He allows guilt to destroy him.
Aaron and guilt are one whereas Robert will dissociate so as not to feel the guilt.
On one side you have self-preservation and on the other you have self-destruction. These two things are so powerfully opposite and Robert is aware of that and in that scene, you could say that he’s being cruel (and he is because that’s how Robert handles most things that hurt) but it’s more than that to me. I see it as Robert being fundamentally unable to understand the way that Aaron functions. He cannot understand how or why he would do such a thing, why he’d let it consume him. It goes against everything in him. He seems angry at Aaron for it and I would argue that part of that anger is jealousy. Like he’s jealous of Aaron for being able to let himself feel it instead of deflecting it. Like he’s mad at himself for not being a good enough person to accept the negative emotion and do the right thing about it and he’s mad at Aaron for being that person. (On top of being angry because of the consequences that Aaron’s righteousness may have in this context)
“Poor tragic little messed-up Aaron”: I can also hear jealousy and bitterness here in the way he says it. That Aaron gets to let his pain out, that his pain is recognised in a way when he [Robert] won’t allow himself anything other than keeping a lid on his.
Argh I love how these two are both fire and gasoline and fire and ice!!

If only Liv had gone to Robert with her suspicions, we could’ve gotten the two of them playing detective, hiding in bushes, using code names, idk. The sky’s the limit and I will mourn what could have been

well I expected a lot of good things but not this good
not Robert reminiscing about the happy times he had at the first Dingle Christmas he shared with the love of his life whilst trying to disguise his pain about the fact that’s not happening this year
not Robert and Doug chorusing Christmas songs together like a pair of old buddies whilst he tries and fails to keep wasted Robert low key
not Gerry joining in on a duet to create the greatest moment in soap history
not Aaron unable to help but titter inwardly about his absolute foolish idiot of a husband making a complete show of himself
not Robert declaring it’s always been the two of them and Aaron not even having the ability to deny it because he knows it’s t r u e
not Aaron handling Robert’s self-pitying sadness and desperation with care and solace
not him accepting the gift Robert handed over with ease and appreciation without tearing him down further
not
‘To Aaron,
Merry Xmas
Rob
x’
not Aaron ditching his new boyf to go home straight away and open his present from Robert despite the mess he’d just witnessed
not Aaron putting on the hoodie with a cute little sweet smile at the note as if to say ‘my lunatic husband knows me so well’
not it’ll be lonely this christmas playing in the background
not the constant reminders that they’re in love through eye contact and small gestures and pent up tension and so much soft
Aaron Dingle loves Robert Sugden
Robert Sugden loves Aaron Dingle
MY SOUL IS BOTH CRUSHED AND REVIVED
I STILL CANNOT BREATHE
I AM UNWORTHY OF THIS ROBRON MAGIC THAT NEVER GOES AWAY NO MATTER HOW FAR APART AND HOW MUCH HARDSHIP THEY’RE PUT THROUGH
MERRY CHRISTMAS ONE AND ALL
