this is about the surgery for removal of a kidney stone (?) in 1953 and it just made me realize that you can see the 14 inch scar from the operation in the swimmer

Sally El Hosaini’s The Swimmers is a biographical drama depicting the inspirational story of Syrian refugee and Olympian Yusra Mardini and her sister Sara Mardini. These sisters had an unwavering belief in themselves and their dream of becoming champion swimmers despite their unthinkable circumstances. The film is an ode to this determination but also to the bravery it takes for refugees to leave their homeland and the difficult sacrifices that need to be made. It’s a must-watch survival story that’s both harrowing and creates a viewing experience that leaves you in exaltation.

The Swimmers
on a serious note: i urge everyone to go watch The Swimmers on netflix.
I've already cried so many times and it is not even half of the movie. The scenes the symbolism, the message, the struggle, the characters, the accurate representation...
What makes it so sad is how real the story is and how many refugees have died already. How many have suffered. How many are still suffering.

it was hard finding screenshots of some of these so bear with me, but there’s this specific colour palette and filming style I’ve noticed in a lot of my favourite movies. I’m calling it the sunset palette (patent pending). It’s shots that use dulled blues, purples, pinks and yellows, and sometimes certain things are high definition and the rest is blurred. for some reason I’m just really drawn to that specific style.

“I was incensed by the number of times I was told that the dialogue sounded ‘cooler’ in English,” Manal said. “It was disrespectful and I felt insulted. I was devastated by the excessive use of English dialogue and how superficial and cheesy it is,” she said. “It felt like one of those banal American films, filled with many orientalist cliches.”
El Hosaini prides herself on trying to make the film as authentic as possible, and went as far as filming the crossing scenes at the Aegean coast and hiring some refugees for scenes.
However, this left Manal feeling uneasy for a number of reasons, one being the six hours of filming in the middle of the sea, where they actually saw people in boats trying to cross.
“Some cast members were crying; others felt queasy about communicating their discomfort. I reached a point where I felt it was all too much,” Manal said. “I told them you can’t invoke trauma by creating a new trauma for the performers; you don’t hurt people to just get a scene,” she said.

The CONCERT FOR BANGLADESH (1972) - BOB DYLAN POSTERS (Part 9/10)
When George Harrison decided to put together a live concert, the FIRST benefit rock concert ever assembled to help the Bengali people after the devastating floods, he put together an All-Star band helmed by Leon Russel and invited Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Badfinger, Ravi Shankar, his fellow Beatle Ringo Starr ...and persuaded Bob Dylan to come out of semi retirement as he hadn’t played live since 1969. The result is one of the best ever recorded and filmed live concert with a level of musicianship and camaraderie rarely equalled.
