Writing & Research - Salvator Mundi

Title: Salvator Mundi

Artist: Leonardo Da Vinci

1. Vinci's Salvator Mundi can be translated to 'Savior of the World' and is considered an iconography.

2. This work was actually the most expensive painting ever sold, in which it sold in an auction to Prince Bader bin Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Farhan al-Saud for $450,300,000.

3. The Salvator Mundi is quite the magician, as it has done multiple disappearing acts over the course of many centuries. It was considered to be destroyed when it first disappeared in 1763 until it resurfaced in 1900, disappearing off the map for another century before finally being brought back to the public in 2005. 2017 was when it was sold for the ridiculous price of $450 million.

4. It is believed that Vinci originally painted the Salvator Mundi for King Louis XII of France and his consort, Anne of Brittany.

5. While Leonardo d Vinci's version of Salvator Mundi is likely the most famous, it was not the original concept of the piece. The subject of Salvator Mundi dates back to the Byzantine period.

Did the way you think about the art change from the first time you looked at it? Do you see anything different in the art now?

My view of the artwork definitely changed after having researched it compared to when I first saw it. Originally, I thought the artwork may have even been a mocking of Jesus Christ or a view that Christianity was related or similar to witchcraft. I assumed the orb seen in the painting was a crystal ball used by self-proclaimed modern day witches and sorcerers; however, it seems that was not the case. The orb seen in the Salvator Mundi is a representation of royal regalia in which a Globus Cruciger is depicted, a measure of religious, royal authority.

- Farhan Shafi: 5th year Ravenclaw (in game) and skilled at charms and quidditch. Likes magizoology and flying, and is frequently seen reading, on the quidditch pitch or with Ben. 

- Ryka Parra: 5th year Slytherin (in game) and skilled potioneer. Likes learning and duelling, and is frequently seen reading, planning adventures or hanging with Tonks. 

- Loki Colosa: 5th year Slytherin (in game), a green-haired werewolf skilled at charms and magizoology. Likes animals, duelling and space, is frequently seen reading, caring for creatures or hanging with Penny, Rowan, Jae or Chiara. 

- Thalia Dyer: 5th year Gryffindor (in game) and an up-and-coming quidditch player. Likes flying and duelling, and is frequently seen on the quidditch pitch or hanging out with Rowan, Talbott or Bill. 

- Amaryllis Ferrara: 2nd year Gryffindor (in game) and an aspiring potioneer. She likes potions and reading, and when she’s not doing either, she’s usually with Codi or Blair. 

- Fallon Byrne: Ravenclaw and skilled at charms. Likes reading, mischief and exploring, and when she’s not searching for the vaults, she’s usually seen with Diego or Tulip. 

- Blair Clark: Hufflepuff and aspiring journalist. Likes writing and watching quidditch, and when she’s not on her typewriter, she’s usually seen with Tulip or Amaryllis. 

- Samzrael ‘Sam/Samz’ Bennett: 2nd year Hufflepuff (in game) and a rather kind young polyamorous wizard. Likes creatures and art, and when he’s not in the hufflepuff common room he’s either with Rowan, Salem or Orion. 

- Isla Lyall: Ravenclaw and an especially adventurous young witch. Likes astronomy and quidditch, and when she’s not stargazing, she’s either at quidditch practice or with her twin sister. 

- Vera Lyall: Gryffindor and twin sister of Isla. Likes quidditch and exploring, and when she’s not on the field she’s either with Badeea, Oliver or her twin sister Isla. 

- Kiyono Wagner: Hufflepuff and werewolf who aspires to be a dragonologist. Likes dragons and wolves, and when not hunting for dragons, she’s usually seen with Charlie, Barnaby or Salem. 

- Samara Graham: 4th year Slytherin (in game) and aspiring professor. Likes studying and transfigurations, and when she’s not reading she’s usually with Rowan or in the library.

Talbott Winger: Ravenclaw and animagus who’s skilled at transfigurations. Likes transfigurations and being alone, and when he’s not holed up he’s usually seen either flying about the castle or hanging out with Salem. 

Andre Egwu: Ravenclaw and skilled fashionista. Likes quidditch and fashion, and is usually seen flying, designing or hanging out with Barnaby. 

Chiara Lobosca: Hufflepuff and werewolf who’s skilled at healing. Likes healing and her friends, and is usually seen either in the hospital wing or hanging with Loki or Jae, or both. 

Skye Parkin: Highly skilled Quidditch player and Slytherin. Likes quidditch and flying, and when she’s not on the quidditch field she’s usually seen with Farhan, Salem or Thalia.

Badeea:

yes ! i like that she’s a very creative and artistic character, and that they made her a ravenclaw whose primary trait is her creativity, rather than her intelligence (though she’s quite intelligent)

five good qualities would definitely be her creativity, her willingness to help others out (i love that they gave that trait to a non-hufflepuff character!), the fact that she accepts everyone and doesn’t really judge, her intelligence, and her ingenuity.

i can’t really think of any bad qualities for her dfghj

favorite scene with her would have to be from the hogwarts cup sidequest, that one scene on the training grounds when she reveals she knows where the next task is and goes “sometimes it’s the quiet witches you have to watch out for.” i love that they gave her that unexpected strength ^^

Ooo lemme think,

first would be her ambition. i know her ambition can lead her to do bad or mean things sometimes, but i just like that she’s always chasing her dream to be the best witch at hogwarts.

second trait would be her determination. while it can also lead her to do bad things, i like that she’s a character who never gives up when she’s put her mind to something. it’s not a trait you really see in female characters a lot

third good trait would be that while she doesn’t always show it, she does care for other people. i’ve seen a few interactions of her and ismelda, and ofc the romance sidequests.

fourth would be her drive to try and change, to be better than her parents. while there are a lot of moments post year 5 where she’s not the best person, i like those scenes in year 5 (and the patronus sidequest) where she admits she wants to (and believes she can) be better. it’s nice that they gave her this motivation to be a better person and to change her ways, no matter the bad writing and scenes that followed.

fifth good trait would have to be her intelligence and capabilities. regardless of whether people acknowledge it, merula is a genuinely powerful and intelligent young witch who clearly excels in her studies and i like that she’s not just making her talent up- she’s genuinely talented, it’s not just something she says to beef herself up.

ooo three bad qualities, okay

first is definitely her cruelty. i will admit, while i love fourth year merula onwards, i dislike how cruel she was in years 1-3, especially year 1. i’m a big merula fan but yeah, her actions were cruel and inexcusable

her judgemental nature is definitely another bad trait. yes, it did spawn from having death eater parents who likely taught her they were better than everyone else, so it’s not a trait she was born with, but i do dislike how judgemental she is of others.

third would probably be her pride. she definitely has a lot of insecurities underneath that big personality that she shows off, but her constant bragging and determination to uphold herself as ‘the most powerful witch at hogwarts’ can be a bad trait (i don’t always mind it, but i can see why others would)

the scene with her in the great hall in year 5, chapter 28. i just love that she finally opens up, tells mc about her backstory, and admits she thinks she can change for the better. it’s just such a lovely scene (the whole chapter is nice, too)

honestly, i’m not sure i have a big brotp for merula. i do like her and ismelda’s friendship though, and in our au she has a constantly-bickering friendship with farhan that’s pretty fun.

i guess it’d have to be either her, ismelda and barnaby, or her, salem and loki/farhan.

Chahatt said that though she was in ‘depression’, it did not mean that she was down and out. “Hum zara depression mein kya chale gaya, unko laga ki hum mar gaye? She went on to say that her mother always taught her to fight and give it back, but added that she wished ‘love and light’ to her naysayers, as they were once her friends.

Chahatt has been unhappily married twice in the past. In 2006, she married Bharat Narsinghani but ended it just seven months later, alleging that he would hit her. She married Farhan Mirza in 2013 and has two daughters, Zohar and Amaira, with him. However, this marriage did not last either, and she filed for divorce in 2018, alleging “sexual and mental abuse”.

The Dirty Picture and No One Killed Jessica actress is known for picking interesting and challenging movie roles and plays them with finesse. Not one to shy away from the camera, she has candidly discussed how she has ‘no time for babies’. According to Vidya, her films are her babies and she is truly proud of them.

2. Shabana Azmi

This stunning veteran actress whose career has spanned four decades tied the knot with lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar in 1984. Initially, the couple faced a lot of scrutiny from the public eye because Javed was still married to his ex-wife, Honey Irani, when he and Shabana tied the knot. Javed also shared two children with his ex-wife, Farhan, and Zoya. Despite initially taking things badly, the kids eventually warmed up to Shabana and have only spoken praises for her in recent times. Born Muhammed Yusuf Khan, Dilip Kumar had a relatively quiet introduction until his 1947 film, Jugnu which landed him his first of many hits at the box office. The talented young star struggled a lot during his initial years as he was a total outsider to the industry. However, after his film Jugnu became a hit, he started acting in back-to-back blockbusters and was the first person to be the recipient of a Filmfare Award for Best Actor in 1954. In 1966 the actor married the love of his life, up-and-coming actress Saira Banu. The pair never had children and are still happily married and share an apartment in Bandra.

5. Rekha

Rekha is a woman who needs no introduction. Her career began at the ripe age of 4 when she acted in the film Intii Guttu. Despite being the love-child of prominent South Indian actors, Gemini Ganesan and Pushpavalli, Rekha didn’t reveal her true identity until she wanted to gain a footing in Bollywood in the 1970s that she revealed her true origins. The actress has only been married once, but unfortunately, her husband committed suicide while she was on a trip to London. During this time, the media assassinated Rekha’s character, with many giving her the moniker of a witch, murderess, and worse. Luckily, the actress has since moved on and continued winning praise for her roles and talents. She never had children and lives alone in her Bandra apartment.

6. Lata Mangeshkar

The talented songstress has won award after award for her powerful voice. During her career of now 78 years, the actress has produced hits for some of the biggest films in Indian cinema. Her father encouraged her to sing when she was a child and even taught her music. Unfortunately, he passed away when she was just 13, and her father’s friend stepped into the picture to help take care of the family. He was the one who helped Lata get started with her career as a singer and actress. The singer chose never to get married and have kids and clearly made the right decision. She’s now 90 and the recipient of a Bharat Ratna (the highest honor a civilian can receive).

7. Anupam Kher

Anupam Kher made his acting debut in the year 1984 with Mahesh Bhatt directed Saaransh. Although the film didn’t do too well at the box office, his performance was praised, and he won a Filmfare Award for Best Actor. He married his wife Kirron a year later and, through her, has a step-son named Sikandar. Anupam and his wife never had children of their own.

So this goes to show that you don’t need to follow a particular timeline and have children just because people around you are having them. Taking on the responsibility of a child is a major one, and nobody should feel pressured to do it just to fit into society’s mold. What are your thoughts on this list?
