I started following tha insta Chase talked about in the live with Ayesha thedollplanet and some girls are being so ruthless with Ayesha it's making me scared she'll see this stuff and hide in her hole again. Like she said shes working on her sm but i hope she puts someone else not a friend but a hire to be in charge of that and keep her away from bullies poison

Here she is at last ... Marie Antoineigh, in her full glory!

WARNING: LONG POST AHEAD! Only read further if you’re prepared for artist babble!!

I already posted most of these photos on my Instagram, but I like to have a more full ‘breakdown’ on my Tumblr, simply because IG isn’t as friendly a format for the more informative posts, imo. (Plus, no line breaks!) Marie Antoineigh was created for the 2021 TheDollPlanet rerooting contest, and won first place in her category! She also was featured on the front page of their Etsy! Her hair is done in their NP Fluffy in pink and white!

Marie Antoineigh (obviously based on Marie Antoinette, with a punny name suggested by a friend!) started life as a very sad, stained Pony Bride, with her hair shaved down to the skin, a rusted and lobbed tail, a chopped-off neck plug and Sharpie stains everywhere, notably around her eyes. I didn’t get a true “before” photo, simply because with my impulsivity, sometimes the only choices are ‘start now or start never’, so I try to minimize how many roadblocks are ahead of me.

I took a photo of her after her rehair, but before the styling, so you could see how thick and poofy her hair was, and try to illustrate a little step-by-step of how her hairstyle came together. I knew some of the basics of how a Rococo hairstyle should look, but because I didn’t know if the hair would curl in time, I didn’t want to rely too heavily on curls, so I incorporated more braids than would probably be period accurate. I actually used a Gibson girl technique for the body of the hair, creating a ponytail that would cover up a square of Styrofoam (stabilized in the head with a straight pin), with another ponytail on top to enhance the volume. I love reading Instagram hair tutorials, so I attempted some ‘teased braids’ to frame the front of her bouffant. I left some hair loose at the end, so I could French braid it into the bouffant, and added a lock of the solid pink to twist into a bow, which I also learned on an IG tutorial. I figure she’s not Marie Antoinette exactly, she’s Marie Antoineigh, and so a pony version of a royal could have more liberties with her style. Her hairstyles often featured pearls, so I strung pearl beads onto thin jewelry wire, which gave me more control where I draped them. I also kept a hank of hair loose in the front to curl it on top of her crown, which is a ring, secured in place with two thin strands of hair tied at the back of her bouffant. Her tail is done in two braids, one large four-strand and one mini three-strand!

I originally planned to have a more stereotypical crown next to a slice of cake, but I realized that I should use a reference for a French crown. Unfortunately, the paintings I found of Marie Antoinette online didn’t feature any crowns, but I did find a beautiful jeweled headpiece in the painting above, with the typical feathers and pearls to accompany. She is also often painted with roses, so I added a frosting rose to her cake. And because she’s a royal, she gets the extra luxe treatment; a symbol on both sides! I also gave her a heart-shaped beauty mark to cover a particularly obvious purple dot on the side of her nose.

Marie kept her original eyepaint, as you can see in the top comparison photo; I used white speckling paint to cover the stains around her eyes, which reduced them to more of a lavender eyeshadow, and then painted a lacy pattern over it. Her original symbols were removed, and repainted with the cake-headpiece symbol.

Works best on bratz/LOL/hard heads at 5/6″+ or pony rehairs. This is not kanekalon braiding hair, it’s finer and smoother, close to toyokalon in texture.

August Breeze alternate rehair!

This girl came to me in a lot with a few other buzzed G3 (including Winter Minty, super excited to give her new hair). I'm not a huge fan of the Birthstone ponies and find them a bit bland, like other collectors I really prefer the Birth*flower* set, but I think giving them really fun rehairs may be motivation to seek out more buzzed stones! I'm so in love with how dramatic she looks...

She was rerooted with TheDollPlanet hair (Jaded, Soylent Green, Yellow Submarine, and Starfire) and Sulky Thread in the color Silver Metallic.

I used a WWE fashion doll head + body (she's a JoJo after all, the more muscles the better) and rerooted her with hair from thedollplanet.

the hair styling isn't perfect, but I'm ok with it. Styling a wig into her ridiculous hairstyle is hard enough, trying to replicate it on this small scale is nearly impossible. This is as good as it's gonna get!

I have plans to make her gf Hermes eventually, but I'm veryyy slow when it comes to doll customs...

hey! ur blog is super cool! i am super curious how people reroot the hair on ponies, and i cant find anything on it, im not asking for a tutorial, just a quick explanation/rundown! hope this isnt too much trouble.

I find ponies really easy to reroot! Just like any doll you have to pop the heads off, cut off the mane of the pony, and use something to scrape out the plugs on the inside of the head. I personally use hemostats because they can really get in there and yank out stubborn plugs. I use a doll rerooting tool from TheDollPlanet to root the hair, which you can also buy from them! You just loop a bit onto your finger and stab it in the existing holes using the tool. When you're done rooting I use fabritac glue to secure the hair inside the head.

Tails are super easy. Just rip out the old tail through the body, loop some of the new hair in a zip tie, and use a pair of pliers to feed it through the tail hole. I then secure with another zip tie perpendicular to the previous one to ensure it's not going to slip back out the tail hole! Ik this isn't a great explanation but I'm at work and can't make diagrams atm fkkg.

Here she is, Miss Isomalt the chocolate bunny! Isomalt came about because so many nice folks said my brown ponies looked chocolatey, and I couldn’t unhear it! And I thought, let’s combine some of my favorite spring/Easter things, with a new style of hair I’ve never used before! This is s-curl by @thedollplanethair! She was dyed weeks ago, and I sped-made her in two days! Rehaired Friday/Saturday, painted Saturday night, photo today! I based her eyes on the super cute basket I found at Target - I can’t get her sweet face out of my mind! Isomalt started as a Pinkie Pie if you can believe it! I don’t know what to do, i got a refund for the bad hair but it’s back up for sale despite my recommendation that they test it first. I have a comission to redo but unsure whether i can safely order another colour to make a blend. finding useful information about nylon hair on google or duckduckgo isn’t getting me anywhere I havn’t been before and my pony arena membership is pending (the forums are currently private). The other option is really expensive in postage and custom fees and wasn’t exactly super helpful and responsive in the past.

I’m just very tired at how dispersed information is on fragmented social media, tired of limited options

More than anything tired of having poured so much time and energy into researching various doll hair types how they handle, what temperatures to use, colour matching and because I’m not a shiny high profile high volume customer I’m not taken seriously.

I told X that they were selling blends with kanekalon that would frazzle when boil washed, they didn’t think to test that and eventually changed the listings months later. I told Y this stuff stains, you’ve been had by your supplier. The listings are still up.

I’d have sent me a swatch of dark colours to stain test PLUS a swatch to blend test to be able to finish my lost work due to a product that damaged my doll because I’m the type of seller who replaces your item for free or refunds your postage if your item doesn’t arrive, who gives fair warning about what I can and cannot do with a damaged doll head, who does crapass mugshot photos to show every last flaw so you know exactly what to expect and are happily surprised.

yeah I’m a tiny spender but will buy consistently for years and have been fixing doll hair for over a decade, maybe, just maybe, I know a little bit about it by now.

ps: if you want thedollplanet’s monofibre nylon for way way cheaper than they sell it, I’ve got links. The dark marine blue needs to be washed or it stains.
