Different takes on how Elizabeth is shown dealing with her father’s death/dying. THE TUDORS // BECOMING ELIZABETH As a parent, Henry had one thing going for him (besides being there, alive) - his royalty. It was his name (not her mother’s unless you count her pride in her ‘most English” descent) that the adult Elizabeth would invoke frequently...[But] for the first half of the period - hardly more than a decade in all - that passed between Anne’s death and that of Henry himself, Elizabeth’s father was effectively an absentee from her life. (Sarah Gristwood, Elizabeth & Leicester)
In The Tudors, Elizabeth walks away from her last meeting with her father first without a second glance and as the audience we can sympathize, not only with her, but with Mary (who remains and cries moments after Henry exits), because of all the emotional trauma their father and his government have put them through. However, Becoming Elizabeth depicts Elizabeth as angry that the wheels of government do not stop to mourn her father, which is a choice the writers could make without turning heads, because the audience does not see her early upbringing and her mother’s fall so we don’t have the same emotional buildup as The Tudors. However, I think that both of these depictions together make up how Elizabeth felt and acted. Elizabeth was always aware that she walked a thin line being so close to the throne (even as a legally declared illegitimate child of the king). Her private feelings, unlike those of her sister Mary’s, were frequently masked as habit of pure survival. Therefore, putting on a sincere face of grief no matter how mixed her feelings were towards her father might not have been natural, but expected by the new regime and watched by those around her.

In a personal gesture acknowledging the falcon's symbolic resonance with Elizabeth, Robert Dudley gave her a 'faire cup of cristall fationed like a slipper, garnished with golde, and a cover of golde, enamaeled, with [a] white faulcone in the toppe".

Some Behind The Scenes Of The Fictional Tudors OT3 Verse Tudors TV Show:
@nocompromise-noregrets Ellie meeting Rupert Graves alongside thee Norwich Expert to give him a tour of Welles Hall. (This is made into one of the special features and also contains much of the ‘no one hates John Norwich like his actor’ content)
James, Natalie and JRM get to go and see the actual chest and contents that Maya found and it’s so emotional, especially because some of this are things the public does not get to see.
So in this world the Duchess of Cambridge is a bisexual Persian Jewish woman and she also wears the ring that the triad had made out of their engagement ring and gave to their oldest son to give to his wife and it’s been passed down ever since. So they get to talk to her and to see it up close and also the private garden that Henry had built for Thomas and Anne and then later their children - the garden that the current royal family uses.
Imaging Sophie Turner and whoever is playing Robert Dudley (I should work that out) going to visit an intact Kennilworth Castle aka Elizabeth and Robert’s other main residence.

💔 for the fic line questions!
"The Queen is very brave," William appends, for she is, and she has done a great deal for him, and so he figures to accord the praise, even into the thunderous face of her husband, is the least he owes unto her. "We know how brave she is," the King gives, his voice cold. "Of course, I did not mean—" "Why should she need to be? Do you have an answer for that?"

Thinking of this post about Robert and it just reminded me of the ending scene from HOTD where Rhaenyra turns to the camera with a look of pure vengeance on her face and how a scene like that would have slayed in BE S2 and shown Robert’s transition from teenager to that scarred, ambitious man so well.
The scene i’m talking about:

Omg can I just saw I love your addition to that Robert and Amy post and I feel the exact same way about it all! The complex feelings! It makes me want to die but I love it!!!! And re: your tags about wanting to read an AU of the situation that's literally why I started writing my own AU because omg the possibility just wouldn't get out of my head!
I tried to keep it in the tags but it was too long *lol* but thank you! And yes! It’s on my list to read this week. I need some distractions while doing plot things for my book planning. The actors are great and I do like how they’re conveying the relationship. It’s also cool to see how you came up with your timeline and the reasonings behind it! I really enjoyed that aspect (I’ve got timelines out the wazoo for my war of the roses alt his so it’s fun to see others).
I think what’s interesting about the situation is that on one hand,I am a huge supporter of platonic soulmates - that Robert Dudley and Elizabeth were truly platonic friends so I sometimes feel guilty riding the Robert x Elizabeth train. The fact that there’s so much speculation but surprisingly little concrete rumor, let alone evidence that they dallied in anything. Honestly, our biggest indicator of it was how close his rooms were to hers. It’s hard to say if it was hubris on Bess’ part, or what.
Given that their maternal grandmother’s line was very fruitful, and My Queen Margaret Beaufort’s lack of further children was due to physical (and emotional) trauma, if Elizabeth was getting down with Robert, they were really fucking careful. While I believe that Mary I had PCOS and other fertility issues, we just don’t know about Elizabeth.
AND WITH ALL THAT BEING SAID, regardless, I’ve been very much enjoying the Robert and Elizabeth show. As to the subject of how/when they’d get married?
I’m of two minds:
1. Thomas Seymour Really Fucked Up, and Elizabeth should have been 100% taken out of that household sooner. Post-Seymour, Elizabeth being married to Robert Dudley or any domestic noble house is... a difficult situation because Seymour also tried to kidnap Edward, and was working his own machinations.
The perfect time for Elizabeth to have married Robert would absolutely have been when Elizabeth was sent away in 1548. I blame all the adults in her life, but most specifically I blame Kat Ashley for this. She was Elizabeth’s governess and closest caretaker.
2. Arguably, Dudley was a better protector than Seymour, and had Robert NOT married Amy when he did, we would have seen potentially Robert and Elizabeth get married (and ultimately I think Jane Grey would have survived because who else would have the power to rise up - they vastly underestimated love for Mary, and especially KoA but that’s another rant).
The issue you’d have to then tackle would be succession. Elizabeth was IMO only taken out of succession because they needed to take Mary out, and you couldn’t take Mary out for legitimacy reasons and not take Elizabeth out because poor Anne Boleyn was tried for treason, while KoA was not.
So basically had Robert not understandably went and married someone who was willing to do so, then I think we could have seen their marriage. With his father as the Lord Protector, and a stable government for the four years (technically speaking), we would be faced with a very different succession issue.
Anyway yes. I love talking Tudors.

WIP game
Tagged by @theladyelizabeth which, oh my god, thank you so much
Rules: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! And then tag as many people as you have wips. I have deemed that this isn’t just for writing either. Sketch titles? Comics? DnD campaigns? If you have an unfinished project, it counts!!
Oh wow, this is going to be a mess
I'm gonna have to subtitle some of the draft docs, mainly because because I have documents just called "drafts" for basically every fic I'm working on at the moment

“For Elizabeth, life at Court was becoming a nightmare. Overwhelmed by a sense of her own helplessness, she asked permission to retire to her own estates rather than endure the traumas of family Christmas. Many zealous Protestants had already gone into exile, among them Lady Katherine Knollys, the daughter of Anne’s sister, Mary Boleyn. Elizabeth wrote to wish her cousin Godspeed. Devastated by the happenings at her sister’s court, she signed the letter ‘Cor Rotto’-- Broken Heart.
'Relieve your sorrow for your far journey with joy of your short return, and think this pilgrimage rather a proof of your friends, than a leaving of your country. The length of time and distance of place, separates not the love of friends, nor deprives not the show of good will. An old saying, when bale is lowest boot is nearest; when your need shall be most you shall find my friendship greatest. Let others promise and I will do, in words not more in deeds as much. My power but small, my love as great as them whose gifts may tell their friendship’s tale, let will supply all other want, and oft sending take the lieu of often sights. Your messenger shall not return empty, nor yet your desires unaccomplished. Lethe’s flood hath here no course, good memory hath greatest stream. And to conclude, a word that hardly I can say, I am driven by need to write, farewell, it is which in one way I wish, the other way I grieve.
Your loving cousin and ready friend,
 Cor Rotto.’”

🌶 Does angst get you excited? Or does it make you wanna crawl into a hole and just cry?
'excited' feels like a weird way to describe it, but in a way, i guess? bcus it's very cathartic and if you tend to write very character-driven, emotionally-centered/character-centered fic (which i do), then that catharsis is what moves the story and development along.
