Today is #InternationalMermaidDay, so naturally I have to post all my mermaid stuff! I have been a fan of mermaids since I was a very little girl and that love of mermaids has been part of my world every step of my life. What happened yesterday was an act of terrorism. The siege of the Capitol was nothing short of white supremacy at work—and the lack of arrests and violent acts toward these terrorists is especially shocking compared to the police brutality faced by BLM protesters this past spring and summer. We have to fight as a community, as an industry, and as a nation against acts like this. We have to protect our BIPOC merfolk, our Jewish and Muslim merfolk, our immigrant merfolk, our disabled merfolk, our LGBTQ+ merfolk. We must denounce this act of terrorism and uphold democracy at all costs—and protect those marginalized groups who need us most. Silence is violence.
