Hi! What's the Q/Eliot subtext like in the books? Thanks :))

i figured this would be a popular question and it’s one i’m happy to answer!! so this overlaps a little with my bi Q subtext post, but here’s the specifically Q/Eliot subtext:

in book one, it seems like Q is into Eliot but very ashamed about it because Lev was too much of a coward to make Q explicitly bisexual. there’s the time Q walks in on Eliot having sex and wonders why Eliot never came on to him, and also the time when Q is remembering the threesome and tries not to think about the fact that he probably slept with Eliot as well as Janet (Janet is Margo’s name in the books). and of course there’s the time Eliot kissed him and Q was the opposite of mad about it

aside from that, though, they just deeply understand each other. in the books there’s a greater sense of the fact that Eliot needs Fillory as badly as Quentin does (Eliot doesn’t really have a purpose on Earth and it’s implied that he would have drunk himself to death if he’d never found Fillory), and this helps them become incredibly close. Eliot wishes Q was there on all his adventures because he knows Q would understand him; Q is relieved when he runs into Eliot after resurrecting Alice because he knows Eliot will understand what he’s going through

also, in book three, a very perceptive character named Plum notices that Q won’t stop looking at his pocket watch and thinks “It must have been a gift, she supposed, from someone who loved him.” guess who gave it to him?

What do you think his discipline is? Your post makes q sound like a muse...idk if thats a discipline tho lol.

So yeah... I’m not entirely sure what I mean, but I have a few theories. And muse is one of them or some other form of courage/guardian/inspiration magic or god-like thing. I just keep thinking about the paralles between Quentin during his testing and how he couldn’t seem to do magic and then didn’t have a discipline/specialty, which is exactly what happened to Kim/Julia in season 4, but we know this was more because she still has god-like powers/essence still inside her. 

I’m also wondering if Q is connected to the Fates in some way because he’s connected to Jane who can control time. It could explain why Q was “chosen” and how the things he was chosen for tend to end up revolving a bit around others. It’s sometimes feel like Q’s the instigator or the first domino that falls and ends up setting up the events for what’s supposed to happen. This might need more explaining.. 

But the theory I’d had in my mind for a really long time is that Quentin is somehow the human embodiment of magic. Maybe touched by the gods (like Julia in a way) or something else. This could be why people are so inspired around him because they’re unintentionally fueling themselves on Q’s unintentional ambient magic or something. And why he’s just so in love with the idea of magic and why the idea that magic is useless affects him so strongly in season 2. I’d have to go back and rewatch the series again to really delve into this more. But I just think all his hope and love of magic is so strong. And how in timeline 23 when he becomes the Beast, it might explain how he still retained so much magic and power. And how he lived so long with a niffin inside him. (But it’s been a really long time sine I watched that episode so I might have missed something or not remembering correctly) And on a sad note, it could explain his dad’s magic cancer, sort of getting magic radiation around Q for all his life. (But if this is true please I can’t have Q ever find that out because that will destroy him and myself in the process) 

The main theory I have right now is fairly far-fetched, but just go with me for second... What if Q’s actually the reincarnation of Prometheus? Or a part of him, his shade or magic or something. It’s the fact that quest was set up for Q to eventually sacrifice himself for his friends and all mankind, like Prometheus sort of did. Again, that could explain why he’s so wrapped up in so many quests to help people at big and cosmic levels. A lot of the things from Q as the embodiment of magic could apply in this situation as well. It might be why the monster is drawn to Q as well and he senses some sort of kin-ship with Q. Both of them end up punished by the gods--for different reasons. 

Basically, there’s a lot outside of the traditional disciplines that could explain Q’s lack of one/lack of focus on it. I know in the books he was could do minor mending, but I don’t know if that’s been talked about at all. I remember them talking about how he can materialize things which I feel like they said was uncommon... I would be okay if Q just ends up being a random magician, but I would like to learn more about Q’s abilities.

My thing with that is like... What does he know. He doesn’t write the show. Secondary canon is super weird and messy and gets debunked really often.

1) her family might have taken her body to be buried in their orchard or on a family crypt. 2) she wasn’t part of the quest. She came along after they’d been working on it for more than a year already and she’s never shown to have worked on the actual mosaic puzzle, so whatever magic was involved might not have considered her a legible candidate.

1) Could have happened, but there’s no textual basis for it, so it’s definitely speculation.

2) Yeah, this is, I hope, the argument the writers would use if they were to ever bring this question back/expand on it, and I’d be okay with that, and I guess I get it if this is everyone’s headcanon.

For me, it still feels a bit like speculation, because we don’t actually know how the magic worked, and if there even was magic involved (you certainly couldn’t use magic on the puzzle itself, so it really felt just like a metaphor to me personally) - so I think there’s a lot of room left open for interpretation.

hale is actually rly enthusiastic about queliot!! in a recent interview he even said that queliot would always be endgame in his heart, canon or not, and some other sweet things too but that rly stuck with me

My theory: 

4x11 Alice seeing S1 Q from her S4 perspective made her finally truly understand how much he really DID love her and realize how important that is/was to her (going back to Q’s comment about “I loved you but you couldn’t trust that”). 

4x11 Alice is also in the same outfit she wore in 3x08/09, in which she previously made some uhhhh, shall we say, rash & high-handed decisions! (And was singing “why can’t we give love that one more chance” with Q.) 

We also know Alice will do supremely misguided shit in general out of love for Q, see: timeline 23.

Cassandra-Alice is still a dangling thread out there, and time magic has cropped up at several points in the show previously.

So it occurred to me that Alice, who knows she still hasn’t yet reached the limits of what she’s capable of, might attempt time travel magic herself to try and fix/save her relationship w/Q and stop them from falling apart, probably around early S3 era but maybe going all the way back to S1 with the idea in her head that now she KNOWS everything she needs to do to make things go smoother (e.g. with The Beast).

(...Thus allowing the writers to neatly sidestep having to actually resolve or further develop Q/El from its current state, instead resetting it back to something more potential/theoretical. 🙃)

If Hale said one word for the ending was “tragedy,” well, erasing two to four seasons of character growth & development for almost everyone is pretty fucking tragic if you ask me! Especially if that happens and then something else goes horribly wrong, preventing it from being undone!

(I could write a whole meta essay of its own here about Alice as classic Gifted Student: her incredible magical ability, her relationship with magic, her ongoing (and sometimes entirely valid!) belief that she knows best in any magic-related situation (esp high-level), and how much high-level stuff she ends up doing without knowing or caring about the full consequences, but just to sum up: it’s a whole thing that’s been going on repeatedly since 1x01. So it’s also entirely possible that if she DOES try it, that’s somehow a prelude to how she ends up as Cassandra.)

Keep in mind, though, that I am a cynical bastard who’s extremely capable of building wildly inaccurate theories from what seem like solid base concepts! Fingers crossed!

I think Leo is a person who really just... likes people. Likes to connect with people. He knows that Barry knew a version of him and worked with him and there’s a surprisingly easy camaraderie there so a hug goodbye probably felt fitting? Especially given how open Barry is too, and how happily he accepts it. It’s not difficult to read from Barry that he’s also big on openness and connecting to people and full of warmth, really.

(Barry’s surprised face was great though? You can just see that he’s trying to reconcile the Snart he knew vs. Leo, and a hug is the last thing he would’ve ever expected to get out of Earth 1 Snart. I think maybe he feels it gives him more insight into the Snart that he knew and the person he might’ve been in another life, y’know? Or confirms his unshakable belief about the ‘good’ in Leonard).

I feel like, even if they never meet each other again, they’ll each feel as though they made a new friend? And there’s something really lovely about that.

i don’t think so, i think hyman works in a way to mock bigot people and fans that only sees what they want to, even if they’ve no basis in source material. 

the primary reason i think so is that in 3x04 i think, hyman calls quentin the best example of a heterosexual male to play the leading hero role and the very next week we see quentin initiating a kiss with eliot.

I cant watch the vid rn but what happened between matt and dom?

matt was doing a live stream and dom walked in like “hey f*g” all casually (he didnt know matt was livestreaming and matt freaked out ended the stream. then they posted a video where dom was apologizing for saying that and theyre really accepting and kind blah blah blah but yea it was bad. and dom’s initial tone indicated he said that all the time. so :/
