they gotta put some sort of enrichment in my cave man i just spent 3 hours placing cubes
#picked up 76 to round out the end of the season and oh my god base building has me by the brainstem#the worst part i think is that theres no way for me to show a non-player what i do without it losing a degree of its impressiveness#like dgmw objectively my builds look nice and a viewer would be like [wow! that looks great]#but they would lack the necessary knowledge to know why its great beyond the aesthetic sense like.#the insane fuckin exploits i have to pull off in order to make shit look good#for anyone still reading this: my favorite technique for punching up an area is merging and merging;#there's certain terrain features and items in game that#when under specific conditions#allow you to merge two objects together. but it gets more complex: some objects require support.#so you have to sandwich in either a conduit or a floor mat.#but then it gets more complex: even if you merge objects together; the architecture of your structure may prohibit placing it.#so you pull out a flame thrower trap. intentionally break the architecture (only possible across some varieties of wall and floor btw)#at a penalty. and then you place your shit. and then you repair it. and then: most vitally of all: you do not fuck with it.#a misclick can undo hours of work#AND FOR WHAT: BTW: I ENJOY THE PROCESS BUT OBJECTIVELY THERE ARE BETTER WAYS I COULD SPEND MY TIME!!!!!#anyway once i finish this latest build i think ill do a walkthrough of it or smthn to post here. im very happy with it =:]#daily h

list of sites and apps i recommend for designing your DR shenanigans
part 2 - building a house

˚✦•·················• ✼ •·················•✦˚
LIST INCLUDES:
games:
Minecraft
The Sims 4
professional apps:
Coohom
˚✦•·················• ✼ •·················•✦˚
Coohom
WHAT: 3D visualization to realize your interior design fantasies, improving work efficiency and design quality for the best 3D presentation! [lifted from the official Coohom website]
PROS: it's very detailed, for one. the user only needs to know their dimensions and what materials they want to use. offers a wide range of things to add to the room. has a render feature; with images in perspective, panoramas, and video processes of the render itself.
CONS: it might be a bit overwhelming to first-time users, especially with the amount of controls. also requires mid to high speed internet for the experience. limited amount of render saves. also has a pro version, but that's only if you're unwilling to subscribe.
PERSONAL EXAMPLE:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
≿❈≾
Minecraft
WHAT: Minecraft is a 3-D computer game where players can build anything. The game which has been described as like an 'online Lego' involves building blocks and creating structures across different environments and terrains. Set in a virtual world the game involves resource gathering, crafting items, building, and combat. [lifted from Webwise]
PROS: stimulating, both as a game and for problem-solving skills. due to its sandbox nature, it allows for vast amounts of creative potential, and is not limited to real-world material constraints (e.g., fantasy objects, plant life). you don't need to worry much about missing materials—it's constantly being updated, not to mention there are countless tutorials online for building certain things. also has the option for customisable avatars.
CONS: purchased, not free. also contains in-app purchases. servers can lag. social interactions are included, if you're not into that or because of cyberbullying, but i highly doubt you need to talk to other people just to make your DR house.
PERSONAL EXAMPLE:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[NOTE: download TLauncher for desktop, and HappyMod for mobile; lmfao lemme be real with y'all and say my game's fuckin pirated]
≿❈≾
The Sims 4
WHAT: The Sims 4 is a social simulation game developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts. It is the fourth major title in The Sims series, and is the sequel to The Sims 3. [lifted from Google Search]
PROS: like minecraft, it's a game. it's meant to be stimulating and functional. the sims 4 in particular has the best graphics and details out of all the games in the series. for desktop players, they can create almost anything and everything they want for a DR house. the base game is also free.
CONS: the base game is just that—the base game. that's not to say it's not fun, but it simply doesn't offer the full experience without the extension packs. you can download custom content, but it's definitely a long process, especially if you accidentally download broken or corrupted files. it's also...incredibly tiring to play, especially if you're on some kind of limit on your game.
PERSONAL EXAMPLE:
Tumblr media
[NOTE: you can also use The Sims for creating your DR self, family/families, S/O's, and et cetera; also, I'm using mods and custom content in my game]

People are very familiar with how konami utterly fucked the Silent Hill IP and in that vein my personal franchise that "got SH'd" would be Breath of Fire.
Certain fans assigned the 5th game (Dragon Quarter) as being what killed it, but I'll defend that game for being a fairly unique RPG (and good!!) in its own right. I feel like if it came out now, people would appreciate it more.
It's relatively short (if you're fast you can legitimately beat it in <8 hours), brutal (flavor/setting + finite resources, finite enemies) and there's a simplicity to it that people seem to mistake as a problem rather than a choice.
read more of me rambling on about how one mechanic can uniquely define a game
One of the loudest fan criticisms of DQ is that it didn't have the dragon gene mixing/summons people loved and that there was !!only one dragon form!! But I'd say it was a worthy sacrifice for doing more with the dragon mechanics.
Your dragon/"I win" button was strapped to Ryu's/the MC's lifespan- sure you'd get devastating dragon powers, but it would also eventually kill him and could deadlock* your game if you abused it. Even walking around would (slowly) tick up the death counter which generates a good sense of urgency *without* condescending railroading.
As a result of this, DQ features something most of the other BoF games generally lacked, meaningfully dangerous encounters.
Other entries would be more typical random encounters that could be snuffed out or eventually grinded out of being a threat.
Meanwhile DQ has finite enemies (and EXP). Battles would take place on a 1:1 map, terrain, enemies, hazards, and items were retained from the normal map and vice-versa.
The game also cranked up the stakes by having limited hard saves (it required a consumable item), but still allowed you to have a soft save anywhere (the latter would be deleted upon reloading the game). Retaining your progress was always on the line and properly framed the dragon option as a temptation with consequences.
*note: the game wasn't so unfair as to leave you without any recourse, you could get a Restart+ where you carried over some items and EXP from a failed run to start the game over again, but leave it to gamers to puzzle out a way to exploit this courtesy to grind/farm, kudos on figuring it out but newspaper whap for going against the spirit of the game
This sort of decision working mechanically, playerwise, AND as a story point was a unique experience. Most games get bogged down in complexities and convulsion but DQ kept to a simple and sweet execution of "this power comes with a terrible price" and is a stronger experience for you.
As a game designer, the cohesion of story and mechanics is a solid inspiration.
Anyway did you know that there was a BoF 6? It was a mobile game and it shut down in about a year. Yes it is was soulless as it sounds. Yes the art is as bad and generic as it sounds.
---
Bonus Round! BoF Game Rankings + Misc.:
BoF:DQ (in case it was not obvious) is my favorite of the series, it's an RPG I can easily revisit and enjoy, truly a lean game. My ideal remake would tidy up the graphics to be nicer and to tweak some fiddlier bits, but the best I can hope for is a lazy port just because I don't think there are many copies (and more people should play it!). The NA box art is a crime though, horrible, 1000 years dungeon.
BoF 4, I like the overall plot and what it tried to do, there's some dodgy TL but I like the weird dragons and the art. Unfortunately it suffers from being in that PS1-PS2 transitory era and from RPG trappings of the time.
BoF 2 (GBA) has a a soft nostalgia spot in my heart. The TL work was incredibly jank, but is what defined JRPGs for me with its funny little freak party and the whiplash of weird goofy shit and Horror that Just Works.
BoF 3 and 1: I never really got around to properly playing either of these and have no real motivation to fix that.
I actually own the BoF artbook (in Japanese) and if you happen to enjoy them, I rec the the purchase even if you know nothing about the series. It actually contains *art from all 5 games* and having a consolidated timeline for how the art evolved over time is fascinating.

Some thoughts on my last Gamefly rental, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection(Switch version).
Tumblr media
I never played the original games, just Network Transmission on the Gamecube, so it’s good for there to be a way for me and others to be able to play them again.
On the cartridge, the collection is split into two parts, the first having Mega Man Battle Network 1-3, and the latter having MMBN 4-6. Starting with 3, each game has two versions, like with Pokemon.
The game selection menu that you see when starting each collection up has a neat feature of having MegaMan.exe be there and talk when you navigate the menus(and when you press L), even being voiced by his voice actor from the Mega Man NT Warrior anime, Andrew Francis.
For all the games, there’s a Max Buster Option you can turn on that had the Mega Buster do the highest damage it can. You can bring the option up by pressing the -/Minus button. I used it quite a bit, though turned it off for bosses. It’s good for getting through maps and random encounters quickly, and scoring high rankings to possibly get better Battle Chips, or if you just want to play for the story. It’s not always an instant-win option, though, as some enemies, usually postgame ones, will need a strategy to beat.
There are several other extras for each game:
A Gallery to see official and concept art for each game
Trophies for completing objectives in each game
Free Downloadable Chips that are usually pretty helpful/OP
A Music Player
The basic controls for each game are:
X for the menu
A to interact with people/object or select options. It’s a good idea to run around areas spamming this in case an item or port is hidden somewhere.
R to try and jack into the Net if Lan is standing next to a useable port.
L to talk to either Mega Man or Lan, depending on who you’re playing as. They’ll give you hints on what to do next to progress the story. Sometimes they’re a bit too vague, though.
While jacked into an area and playing as Mega Man, you’ll encounter viruses to fight while walking around in random battles. Defeating them will get you, depending on the ranking gained at the end, either a Battle Chip or Zenny.
There are HP-Up/power-up programs you can find or buy that can raise Mega Man’s HP or give a boost to his Buster’s power, speed and Charge attack. HP Ups are used automatically, but the others need to be used manually from the menu under the ‘Mega Man’ tab.
I didn’t 100% the games, since some Battle Chips need a certain Battle Ranking to drop, and I’m really not sure how to manipulate the rankings to get to what was needed for some, plus the post games can be pretty difficult.
MMBN1
The Net maps in this game can be kind of confusing. I’d recommend using a map guide if you have trouble navigating them. Amusingly, there’s a bit in the credits where Mega Man gets lost in an area, so seems like they know it, too. XD
MMBN2
There's some notable upgrades and changes from the first game, from game mechanics to the size/look of the maps.
Battles feel and load faster.
Navigating the Internet maps is much less of a pain now, and the areas look more distinct, though having a map guide for some of the more complicated areas would be helpful.
A new addition to this game is several ‘Styles’ for Mega Man that level up and unlock as you use them after Mega Man gets an upgrade a ways into the game. Here’s a guide to the Styles and how to get them. Later games expand on this.
Terrain effects in battle such as ice, fire and grass are also new features, ice’s effect being obvious, and grass tiles healing certain enemies.
Subships are another new addition to this game, which is carried onwards, which range from healing to avoiding weak battles, and more.
A change to this one that I don’t like that makes it harder is not having your HP automatically restored after battles, instead having to be healed by using healing Battle Chips in battle, using healing Subchips or jacking out. This seems to have been carried over to the later games.
In battle, you can now remove Chips from your selection by selecting them and hitting ADD, which, like in the first game, will have Lan send more chips, but now is based on the amount selected. I kind of preferred the old way, of just adding in more chips when hitting ADD and waiting for the Custom Meter to fill.
There are new purple diamond Item icons that you need to use an Unlocker item on to get an item from. You’ll need to go to the Subships menu and manually use it, as there won’t be a prompt just from interacting with the Item icon.
MMBN3
The first of the games with two versions, with a few differences between the two, such as available Chips, certain characters, etc..
MMBN 4-6
These ones gave the series a new graphical style and art upgrades such as new character portraits.
I was feeling kinda burnt out after finishing MMBN 2, so I decided to stop there, maybe go back to them all in the future. I did pop into each to at least get a save file started and see any immediate changes to each game.
It was good to finally play these, and for there to be a way for new players who missed out on them to get into the whole series, minus Network Transmission, at once.
Next game being sent is: Goodbye World

A Beginners' Guide to Building: Part Three
In my previous posts, I discussed how to improve the exterior and interiors of your builds, now we’ll explore landscaping and how to utilize it to give character to your builds!
My first piece of advice is to draw out where you’ll plot your plants beforehand. Using the terrain paint tool, you can “sketch” out where you’ll place a majority of your plants. Landscaping can be a tool used to draw the eye to or away from certain parts of your build, and sketching these places beforehand gives you a chance to think about what parts of your build you want to either hide or emphasize. Additionally, you can also overlap your terrain paint with a darker shade to give subtle hints of depth!
Tumblr media
Another one of the most helpful tips I’ve found for landscaping is to pick your plants beforehand. Picking a selection of plants you plan on using in your build greatly cuts down on the time you spend trying to decide what flowers go where, which tree looks better—this one, or that one? Preselecting the foliage you plan to use trims down a lot of trial-and-error time, and also encourages you to think more about the character landscaping can add to your build. What sort of sim lives here? Would they hire a gardener? Are they a gardener? Or are they a paranoid recluse who barricaded themselves in the basement and doesn’t care if the yard’s overgrown?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the build shown above, the only plants I used were base game debug plants found in Willow Creek. Speaking of debug...
Landscaping, like most elements of the Sims 4, can be enhanced or made easier by mods. My next piece of advice is twofold: mimic the landscaping of the world you’re building in to make your build blend into the landscape and use mods to make this process easier. TwistedMexi’s mod Better Build Buy comes with a variety of features that greatly improves the building process, including but not limited to naming and categorizing debug menu items, making it easier to pick out debug items that may not be accessible though the normal build catalog. Speaking of TwistedMexi mods, you can also use mods like the T.O.O.L mod to place objects off-lot, allowing you to further blend your landscaping with the surrounding world and add one more level of immersion to your builds. There’s nothing I love more than looking at a completed build and not being able to tell where the buildable lot ends, and the rest of the world begins—it really makes my saves feel unique to me.
I hope these tips have been helpful to all of you new simmers out there!

FusionFall Headcanons: Ramcycles
Due to the materials they're made from being so much lighter/less dense than other metallic fusion monsters, the Ramcycles don't have a very strong defense comparatively. Nevertheless, they are fierce, noted both for their high aggression and wild movements.
As featured in concept art, Ramcycles will often have backpacks and other luggage stuck to them. These are from the cyclists who originally owned the bikes that would become these monsters, unable to retrieve their personal belongings when the bikes were possessed. It isn't uncommon for fusion fighters stationed in Habitat Homes to take these items either to return them to their original owner or restock on supplies. However, in either case, fusion matter decontamination is a must and it's recommended that most if not all perishables be thrown out/destroyed with the exception of maybe certain packaged goods if they don't look damaged/unsealed.
As for what items could be found on the Ramcycles, according to the mission "Kibbles 'n' Bits," pet food can sometimes be found on these monsters. While it is possible for cyclists to sometimes travel with their pets, it often unrecommended due to their safety and anxiety. Therefore, if there is no evidence of special/additional seating, this is unlikely to be the reason for finding pet food. More likely, given the high sentient-animal population in the area, the pet food is actually theirs. Even if most of the animals in Habitat Homes still rely heavily on instinct and live a zoo, we do see in episodes of MGPAM, such as "The Big Field Trip" arc, that they are nevertheless capable of driving vehicles. Chances are, other items found will also be more suited for animals than humans.
Primarily, I would say that the bikes were originally owned by students of the local school(s); however, again referring to the Ramcycles' concept art, a travel blanket is shown to be attached, hinting closer to people who go on road trips. Habitat Homes may not be the largest or most populated area that we see in the game, but thinking of it as a true world, we can consider the area as a vital checkpoint to anyone coming from the West on the map. It's a civilization of mostly animals, but it is one of, if not the, first civilizations people might pass through before continuing to the rest of the City/Sub-urban areas. Likely, Habitat Homes is connected to a main highway used often by travelers and also has a restop(s) that they frequent. If this is the case, it would explain why so many of the fusion monsters there, the Ramcycles included, are made up of plenty of vehicle parts. There could even be some form of touristry surrounding travel/vehicles, like how motor bars and restaurants exist in real life.
Because their horns are made from twisted handlers, you're actually much safer getting hit with them than you would be if a real ram were to charge at you. Still, the Ramcycles have a handful of other attacks to be wary of. For the most part, they can kick and buck with the same intensity as the real animal. The worst though, as noted in their descriptions, is for them to use their "wheel attack." This attack is performed by either pinning or throwing their entire body at their target, then rapidly spinning their front wheel. This can cause a severe friction burn over a large area of the body. Bicycle spoke injuries are also possible if hands or feet get caught between them. More than just the injury itself, there's also the danger of getting maimed on the battlefield. The Ramcycle's might copy herbivores, but if they see you injured, they will attack like sharks smelling blood in the water. Due to the flock/herd behavior of real rams and these fusion monsters, chances are, their friends would be too far away either.
Similar to real rams, they are great jumpers and can course rough terrain in a short time. When fighting Ramcycles, use the area to your advantage. You can't outrun them, but you can put obstacles in their way by cutting around some of Habitat Home's tight alleyways or by simply attacking from the rooftops.
At close-range, their biggest weakness is their size. Since it is mainly just a bike that makes up the majority of the bodies, they are easier to tip than other fusion monsters. A strong soldier could grab them by the handlebars and wrestle them to the ground. Once downed, staddle the torso to help keep them pinned and deal a swift attack to the head or abdomen. Soldiers who utilize this strategy should be adept at grappling and know how to hold their ground.

IDEA GENERATION: 1
My first idea revolves around capitalism and corruption
There will be no 'player character' as such because the Roblox platform allows for each player to have their own display name and avatar (though this can be overridden, I would prefer not to limit the player count to fit into a certain number of characters).
The game will be set in a fictional country, which consists of one large, and a few smaller, islands in an archipelago in the middle of the ocean. Upon first joining, players will play through a short introduction (haven't decided exactly what this will be yet), will be released into the main town on the island.
The aim of the game will be to stop the government printing money by destroying "money printing stations" (name is obviously not final). Each of these 'stations' will vary in size and difficulty, and will require different levels, skills and items to complete, and will serve as the 'missions' of the game.
Outside of these missions, players will have free roam over all of the islands in the small archipelago. They will be able to complete side-quests from residents to gain items, skills and rewards, or they can find their own loot by finding randomly spawned loot in randomly spawned buildings (more on this in a moment).
The authorities will obviously try to stop the players in this task, and I plan to have them remember the players if they do not wear a mask (I.e. the police will chase the players even multiple days after as they will have a warrant out for their arrest).
I aim for the game to have 3, possibly 4 endings:
1: The players win and destroy all of the money printing stations, then overthrow the 'official body' during a final battle
2: The players all get arrested
3: The players all get killed
I intend for the game to be of a "hardcore" style, meaning if the players get arrested or die, it will be permanent, this is balanced by the fact that the game is likely to be quite short to complete (aiming for about 2 to 6 hours, with a save feature).
The theme is obviously satirical and extremely simplified. There will also be further story elements to explain more about why what is happening in the fictional country, however I will post about these later once they have received further thought.
In terms of randomly generated buildings and loot, I intend to do this using, in my opinion, a very interesting method:
Important features of the map, such as the main town, and other significant locations, as well as the physical terrain and shape of the islands, will remain the same in every game save. Small buildings, such as houses, sheds, other structures such as building sites, abandoned structures, and pickups such as crates, chests and boxes, however, will be generated randomly and their position will be saved in each save game. Such "Printing Factories" will also remain the same buildings (I.e. several different types and layouts to add variety, for example 5 different small types, 3 medium sized types, and 1 or 2 large types), however they may be randomly placed in a small variety of locations to add further replayability and variety.
Each player will be assigned a house and essentially a family (basically just some animated characters that have a pre-programmed set of responses) when they create a savegame (or join a friend's save game), and will be residents of the main town/city, this provides some reason as to why they're there and also will be important for writing further parts of the storyline later.
I have a vague idea of how to I'm going to do some of these things, but they should be a challenge for me, especially data stores.
It may also be a challenge to implement this into a rating of PEGI 12, so the ideas may have to be slightly adapted.
The idea of the game being set in an archipelago was inspired by Just Cause 3, a game which is also inspired by and related to the theme of corruption and capitalism. The main theme for this idea is of course corruption, which links to the story of King Midas & The Thief as I have explained in a past post.
The ideas presented here are purely fictional and do not represent real-world views - they are intended for satirical and entertainment purposes.

Smash Karts: The best multiplayer kart racing game
Smash Karts is a fast-paced multiplayer kart racing game which has bought out the gaming world. Produced by the Miniclip team, this game combines classic kart racing gameplay with intense battles. The game can be acquired free of charge to play on a variety of platforms, including PC, iOS and Android. In this blog article, we'll consider the gameplay mechanics, features and strategies that make Smash Karts a must-have game for all kart racing fans. Gameplay Mechanics The gameplay mechanics of Smash Karts act like other kart racing games. Players control a kart and compete in races against other players. The game features many karts, each with its own unique design and obstacles. Players must complete the course, collecting power-ups and weapons to gain an advantage over their opponents. The game has several modes, including traditional race mode, battle mode, and capture the flag mode. In race mode, players compete against each other to function as first to cross the finish line. In smash karts unblocked , players compete in a battle for the last map, and in capture the flag mode, players must capture the opposing team's flag and return it to their base. Weapons and power-ups One of the most interesting aspects of Smash Karts is the selection of weapons and power-ups open to players. Mastering Black Desert Online Cheats: Tips and Tricks You Need to Know
Tumblr media
Black Desert Online is an epic and immersive MMORPG game developed by Pearl Abyss. It is a game that is loved by many gamers all around the globe. However, as we all know, some of the features of the game may be difficult to conquer, leaving many gamers seeking cheats to fix their gaming issues. This article focuses on some Black Desert Online cheats that can be used to give you an upper hand in the game, and make your journey more fun.
Know the Desert Eagle
Getting around the terrain in Black Desert Online can be quite exhausting. One of the most practical cheats for moving around the terrain easily is the Desert Eagle. It’s a hack that allows you to jump and fly for a short period of time. You can activate this hack by hitting the SHIFT key twice. You’ll then see a small blue arrow appear above your head. This indicates that you can jump and fly for a short period of time.
You can also use the same cheat to jump vertically and reach heights that cannot be reached with normal jumping. Just hit the jump key twice, and you will jump higher than usual. Remember, this cheat is not meant to be used in competitive play, as it can result in disqualification.
Treasure Hunt
Black Desert Online is a game that rewards players who enjoy exploring. To find hidden treasures, players need to explore the map to discover them. However, this process can be quite frustrating and time-consuming. One of the simplest Black Desert Online cheats for treasure hunting is to use the CTRL key and right-click mouse button simultaneously. This will activate the auto-run feature. The auto-run feature removes the need to move around, allowing you to concentrate on finding hidden items across the map.
Fishing Cheat
Fishing in Black Desert Online can be quite a relaxing activity, but it takes time. When you are waiting for your fish to bite, it can become boring and uneventful. The fishing hack involves using an auto-fishing function. You can activate the auto-fishing hack by right-clicking on the fishing rod and selecting the auto-fishing option.
This cheat allows you to sit back and relax as the game does the fishing for you. Players who use the auto-fishing cheat can save time and earn more fish at the same time.
Extra Character Slots
Black Desert Online starts with only three character slots. To create more characters, players must pay real money or earn enough in-game currency to unlock more slots. However, there is a way to get extra character slots for free. You can get extra slots by completing certain quests, such as the Valencia Questline. For each quest completed, one additional character slot will be unlocked. In conclusion, these are just a few Black Desert Online cheats that can give you an edge in the game. However, remember that using cheats might remove the thrill of exploring the game, and may lead to consequences such as account suspension. It is best to use these hacks and cheats cautiously. Good Luck and Happy Gaming.

A few alt-D&D class ponderings
I have been thinking of a few of the changes I would have made as I read the Hasbro OneD&D playtests. I don't think I really have the spoons or fucks to flesh them out into a whole rules set, but I present them here free for anyone to rob blind - just put a thanks in your product.
To give some context on this input - DM of D&D since the early 80s, ran every edition from BECMI D&D and AD&D1st to 3e/3.x, 4e, Pathfinder 1e, and 5e. Also a GM for several other games notably Heavy Gear/Tribe 8 (Silhouette from Dream Pod9), Mayfair's DC Heroes (known now as MEGS), Battletech/Mechwarrior, Warhammer FRP (1st and 4th), Big Eyes Small Mouth (BESM) and Silver-Age Sentinels, etc. I've also written for Tribe 8, and some d20 supplements in the early 2000s. I also have my home system Mass Effect RPG based on Modern AGE rpg.
So got that out of the way...
Ancestries, Heritages, Cultures.
Use the OGL to import the ideas from Ancestries and Cultures. Provide 4 steps of this:
Ancestry - this is the physical origin of the hero
Heritage - their upbringing
Culture - the social environment
Background - the hero's initial training
Ancestry gives the innate physical traits (stuff like darkvision and resistances to conditions).
Heritage gives a general Advantage on certain checks, as well as a "mother tongue" language.
Culture gives languages spoken as well as a couple of proficiencies.
And background adds the last proficiencies, a feature and a feat as well as starting kit.
Class Design
Generally bring back Source + Role from 4e and place this info in DMG to assist DMs to tweak and build their own classes and subclasses. Also look at the classes from all types of encounters - a class should provide some support for all three of Combat, Exploration and Social encounters, as well as have some special benefit to Downtime. Some may also benefit from Character Development (Qualities, Goals and Flaws), as well as any Faction rules.
You will also notice a lot of 'Channel' - this is one of two core class resources (hit dice would be the other), these help measure out how often some of the hero's abilities can be used, and tie into Rests and Recovery/Downtime.
Also categorize classes as Innate and Learned, this impact the power curve of each class after Tier 1:
Innate start a tier of play with power that is refined and controlled over the tier. Example would be Barbarian or Sorceror, wellsprings of talent that they need to learn to control with experience.
Learned classes start a tier a bit weaker, but ramp up over the tier. Classics here are Cleric/Wizard but also things like Fighter and Rogue.
Artificer - now a primary class; generally designed to be a support/utility class, heavy emphasis on infusions; reworked subclasses to be more approach to magical-technology (alchemy, item creation, minions, armor, etc); a great user of downtime to enhance gear, infuse items, create consumable items, etc
Bard - generally tweaked to put more emphasis on performance and support; slightly rebalanced spell list; like artificer a great user of downtime and preparation
Barbarian - Primal class, their 'Rage' reframed as 'Instinct/Channel Nature' and given broader exploration and social utility beyond hit things and be tough in combat
Cleric - light armor, simple weapons only; clerics of war and tempest and a few others may get up medium armor and shield; martial weapons are restricted; Divine Intervention is gone and Channel Divinity is more frequent, and additional uses for it are given as clerics level up
Druid - Primal magic now its own full thing; Channel Nature from the playtests now exists - and how it is used varies by Circle (Beast is now the shapeshifter, Stars is the constellation, Land have terrain/geography advantages, Sky Circles are weather based, Green is plants, etc).
Fighter - merges with Monk (yep), "Ki" becomes the resource used to alter and change their attacks and defenses (Training), gain stances as a sort of encounter-length benefits, exploration and social encounters benefit from the intense training and focus. At tiers 3+ they break the level of "realism" and are able to bend/break physics but is still based in their physical ability and training/discipline. They are as tough as Barbarians when it comes to physical conditions and threats like poison and disease (which are far more meaningful). 4e Warlord becomes a core subclass that uses their Training to provide benefits to allies.
Magus - the Arcane gish, uses Channel Arcane to enhance their combat abilities, and utility spells and skills for Exploration and Social encounters.
Paladin - the martial divine type, still very smite-y and giver of aura-based benefits, really benefit from the reduction in heavy armor and martial weapons from clerics, at higher levels they gain the ability to use Channel Divinity to gain access to higher level magic (never to the highest of cleric spell levels but a bit higher than mid-level)
Ranger - Primal variation on the gish, with the choice of taking Training or Channel Nature (meaning are they more mundane hunter/trackers or more in tune with nature like Barbarians and Druids); their strength is in Exploration encounters
Rogue - feels like a tweak, but actually overhauled below the hood, no longer are they just Lot of Skills + Sneak Attack, more thought put into how the class works, 'Wits or Training' (Channel Mundane, lol) is what I call the resource they use. In terms of encounter design they work best in Exploration (but less involving terrain and survival like the Ranger and more immediate challenges, puzzles, etc), and then through subclasses they pick up additional Social and Combat benefits. They also benefit from Factions (Gangs, Guilds, Outlaw band, etc)
Sorceror - the innate spellcaster, all about barely controlled abilities that they must learn to control and then master; big change here - are they Divine, Primal or Arcane? This allows them to play the Divine Oracle/Invoker or the Primal Spirit Talker/Voice of Nature. I loved the wild number of sources of power for Sorcerors in Pathfinder 1e. The subclasses then are all about those origins. Their Fount is like a less controlled version of the Channel Arcane/Divine/Nature abilities of others, it can enhance encounter advantages but at a cost that makes Sorcerors a bit off-putting to others
Warlock - the bargain-maker, who get powers from a deal with a single source, or seek smaller gifts from many entities, by default they are not a spell caster (big change, callback to original Warlock), but can become a full pact magic caster with the right pact boon and patrons. Their Channel Arcane works a bit differently from the others, as it doesn't recharge naturally, but only with interaction with their patrons. They are framed as an innate class but over the tier its more a matter of smoothing out what they want and what they need to do to get it
Wizard - your pure learned Arcane spellcaster, like the others they have Channel Arcane which they use through applied theory and discipline, giving them more emphasis on downtime, faction and preparation than spontaneous uses. Subclasses are not necessarily based on school of magic, but in how their magic is used, so a Protector (more defensive type with abjuration and divination), the Militant (shifted to be more your war mage, evocation types), Arcane Geography (circle magic, summoning but also can alter the parameters of areas of effect and range), the Time mage (not just perception, haste/slow and time stop, but also can alter casting times and durations of spells).
The Channel/Wits/Inspiration mechanics are there to also add in additional types of classes - if you want to make Fey a source of energy, or Shadow, or Demonic the tool is there to build off of both in terms of subclass design and for full class development.
Feats and Proficiencies
Feats renamed Talents or something (I get a LOT of feat/feet puns at my table, every time, every campaign) - Feats are substantive but more for broadening hero abilities, not increasing it. They also don't 'chain' but can improve from tier to tier.
Skills, languages, tools have proficiencies, and like Pathfinder 2e they do get a little more out of them than just a bonus to relevant checks. Like Feats their key intent is broaden and try to avoid making the abilities more powerful outright.
This is getting a bit long, so I think I'll save tweaks to the Encounters, the Downtime/Faction, Hazards and Conditions and other things in another post. I hope someone finds some interesting ideas in this.
