The LU Chain in Volleyball

I spent all day watching my siblings play Volleyball with their teams, and had this thought of what the Chain would be like on a team of their own.

Time: Quiet coach. He tries to grow team spirit by making the team take disciplines together, but also knows how to quietly take aside a player who is struggling and help them in private.

Warriors: Team captain. Hitter. The type who knows he’s good and is frustrated when everyone else isn’t communicating or playing as well as he knows they can, but tries to encourage out real potential and not let his irritation get to him.

Twilight: Ace hitter. Anywhere he is he’ll get the ball over and through the most consistently. He can hit right or left handed. He’s the type of player who apologizes a lot, who looks intimidating but is actually sweet, and who calls himself out to the refs (which irritates some of his teammates).

Sky: Setter. He’s good at making sure everyone in his team is doing well emotionally. He’s encouraging and sweet, but has an uncanny precision and control of his sets.

Four: Libero. He’s a very balanced player, and very good at noticing the morale and emotions of the other players, and good at making jokes where necessary, or at showing himself a good defense to bolster confidence. He has quite a few brothers and they were raised in such a way that they have learned teamwork very well. He rivals Warriors for best team player.

Legend: Back row. Loves blocking when in the front. He’s been playing the longest of any of them, though he’s had a different team every year he’s played. He’s been in higher divisions (though home life has him playing on this smaller team now), and he knows all the rules and the way things are supposedto be and it bothers him when things are disorderly, unprofessional, or out of place. Sometimes his perfectionism gets on his teammates’ nerves.

Hyrule: back row. He’s very good at defense. He’s the type of person who quietly plays the game, kindly goes through the motions and cheers everyone on, but doesn’t do (or expect) a lot of interaction outside of practice and play and so knows very little about his team and vice-versa. He is a little bemused to find that this team doesn’t quite run that way, but he enjoys it when he gets to spend extra time with them rather than being on a loner team like in his past.

Wild: hitter. He subs in for Four when the libero reaches the front row. He’s wild and friendly and encouraging, but he bears a lot of baggage from his last team which wasn’t the best. He and all his teammates were put under a lot of pressure and he lost all joy for the game before transferring to this team. He feels like the failures of his past team all falls onto his shoulders, and many of them quit playing altogether from that experience. Sometimes, when he gets stressed or forgets this team is different, he’ll fall back to a serious and tense persona and seem the opposite of his normal cheery self. This is very bad for on court communication and team morale.

Wind: He has experience as the oldest on his previous teams and now he’s the youngest and least experienced and it’s grating to him. Everyone expects him to be worse because of his size and age and he’s mostly a bench warmer. He subs in on occasion (most often to replace Wild in one of his moods), and in those times shows himself competent. He has to play off the net because he’s so short. He’s not as strong or fast as some of the others, but he has a consistency born from captaining and helping carry his past team.

It was so fun to give them "music festival outfits" too, the funniest part is how Ada's outfit is her signature "orange shirt and blue denim" 😆

A little bit of backstory/info just for fun: Ada and Mory have grown up bonding over music. After getting into several of the same metal and rock bands in high school, they started attending concerts together. Eventually, this became a tradition for the siblings, and even though Mory's more often than not off travelling the world, they still meet up for their annual favorites.

Summary: it's race time in Barcelona, the home of Lucky and she can't wait for the Spanish GP and what comes after.

Sorry for the wait but I had a lot going on and then I decided to just wait until after the race to see the results. So it can be a accurate to the weekend. This not proof read, so sorry if there's any mistakes.

This is the last one sadly. I honestly wasn't sure how to end this so it might not be that amazing 😓. Not to be nitpicky or anything, but I notice you occasionally critique LO for its lack of Greek culture, but reading Rekindled, Greek culture isn’t very present in it either minus some outfits, which is basically the same case as LO. It seems to also suffer from a lot of Americanized butchering of cultures.

Again so sorry if this is rude but I couldn’t help but notice it

I cricitize LO for its lack of Greek culture because its non-Greek creator claims she's a folklorist and that her knowledge of Greek myth is more advanced than everyone else's.

I myself am also a non-Greek person who is currently creating LO fanfiction with the intent of honoring the original themes of the its source material (especially The Hymn to Demeter) but that requires the additional layer of keeping it within the original restrictions of LO as it was first established back in 2017/2018 (i.e. I can only make so many creative differences without it going against the nature of it being an LO-retelling, so that often means some of the flaws of LO still have to stick around in Rekindled for it to still be an LO rewrite, if that makes sense).

Therein lies the difference, at least in my own humble opinion 💀😆 By all means, I'm not opposed to criticism of Rekindled for not being 1:1 with Greek myth either, but Rekindled wasn't created to be 1:1 with Greek myth, it was created to re-interpret what LO attempted to be while cleaning up the story, making the character designs more consistent, and actually tackling the plotlines that were dropped back in S1. If I wanted to do my own built-from-the-ground-up retelling of Greek myth, I would have, but my goal was more so to retell Lore Olympus in and of itself because that's where my interest lies. And that means working in the same context as LO, keeping what I like and reworking what I didn't like.

There are loads of creators who also do their own Greek myth re-imaginings that aren't 100% accurate to the myths but the works themselves are still incredibly entertaining and worth reading (and even the ones I'm not a diehard fan of I still don't have strong criticisms for). None of those creators claim to be an authority on Greek myth which is what I (and many others) specifically criticize Rachel for.

If LO had remained a fluffy office drama with low stakes, I probably wouldn't have had so many bones to pick with it in the end. It's the fact that its creator has built an audience around herself that treats her as the authority on the subject - which she has even gone out of her way to declare herself as - but then in practice can't even write a coherent story, let alone a coherent retelling based on the myths she claims to be so educated on. That's what made her work so subject to criticism and analysis more so than any other Greek myth retelling on the platform. That's what makes people such as myself expect better of her.

I have a burning curiosity that can only be relieved by an OFMD author. Why is there so much AU fanfiction in this fandom?? 😆 My AO3 search results with every alternate universe tag I can think of blocked are coming up with almost every result on the page filtered out! 🤣 I have nothing against them existing and I'm all for everyone writing what makes them happy, I just wonder how this fandom ended up being so full of them. I used to think SPN was oversaturated with AU's, but it can't hold a candle to OFMD! 😅

okay i wanted to give this a proper answer and also asked a few other authors, so here are some of the reasons we came up with - i think it's a combination of all of these:

while the show takes place in a historical setting, it's not historically accurate or even trying to be. it uses anachronistic dialogue and gives piracy a vibe more like a modern workplace. the characters become timeless in the sense that they are already "modern" characters put into a historical setting, and therefore fit just as well into any kind of AU setting. the characters are what make up the show more than the historical setting

the themes that the show deals with - relationships, sexuality, gender, trauma, family, self-image, mental illness - can be explored in so many different ways given different settings. it's very interesting to examine how the characters would deal with them when thrown into different circumstances and time periods

canon is really good, so while there are gaps in the narrative that can be explored, a lot of people are drawn to putting the characters in entirely different situations and/or feel like canon ground was covered pretty quickly

the story itself translates to other universes very easily. people want to enjoy that story and/or their favorite plot points again and again, but just writing down the plot of the show in the canon setting wouldn't make much sense. by throwing the characters into a different universe, you can pull scenes and plot from canon without just repeating it, putting a different spin on it

very few shows have (canonically) older queer people, and people like the idea of how that translates to other universes

we have (relatively) little canon and had a lot of time between seasons. considering the size of the fandom, amount of canon, and time since canon, the proportion of AUs is not surprising

if we assume proper tagging, AUs make up around 27% of all ofmd fanfics by number of works, but probably much more by word count, since a lot of canon fics tend to be shorter. in comparison, that number is around 20% for SPN and 34% for Merlin 🤷

also i've seen a lot of people starting out by only wanting to read canonverse fics until they gave an AU a try and BAM they were hooked 😌

Needless to say, he got mopped in Kitakami because I played it in mid game (almost lore accurate) instead of post game, so his pokemon were level 48 max. I could've used low level pokemon during the dlc but.... I didn't wanna lose... haha...

I couldn’t resist getting a snake plant for him, (A bit on the nose? Absolutely!) and when I saw one in the reduced section at the garden centre today it was like fate! So, let me introduce you all to ‘Growley’ the Dracaena ‘Fernwood’

Even under a light my room is probably too dark for it to thrive, and I’ve never had a snake plant before so he may have to move elsewhere eventually but he can live here for now and look adorable. 🐍

Diverse Stardew Valley 4.0 is officially here!

DSV 4.0 is a pretty different beast than 3.0+, and it’s bigger & better than ever 😆 The biggest difference is that we’re back on NexusMods and we’ve returned to an all-in-one download: the changes we made for 3.0 was the best move for the DSV team at the time, but things have changed in the last couple of years and we’ve updated accordingly. 

DSV 4.0 also overhauls the interior of the mod with a shiny new C# engine, DSV Core, coded by the amazing KediDili. This should improve performance and make it much easier to configure DSV to your liking!

It’d take too long to list everything that 4.0 adds or changes, but here’s a quick summary:

Added over 250+ lines of variant-based dialogue

Added new additional variants which can be used alongside other variants:

Nonbinary Abigail, Sebastian, and Emily

Aro-Ace Gus

Jewish Mullners and Elliott

“So I said to her ‘you're being unfair to Anton’ and you know what she said to me?” you peak over to look at Hobie, his eyes are closed, face relaxed as you wash his hair.

You sit on a little stool placed in the middle of the tub, your hand on the shower head, the other is massaging his scalp. Your entire bottom half is drenched with lukewarm water, feet soaked and slicked with shampoo.

His head rests on the edge of the tub, propped up with a soft fluffy towel for comfort. Hobie sits on a similar stool, body away from the cold tiles. After numerous tries in finding the best and most efficient position, practically turning yourself into an acrobat with how you were folding your body into different positions to wash Hobie’s hair; you've finally cracked the code, albeit it looked funny at first. He even suggested washing his hair in the sink, which you turned down. You're not letting him bend over a sink and eventually hurt his back. Just the idea of washing his hair on the dirty sink (which was counterproductive) made you invent this ridiculous position.

Getting your clothes wet was well worth it though as you watch him slowly crack his eye open accompanied with a soft smile.

“What’d she say?” He whispers, clearly hiding his sleepiness, induced by your massaging and gentle washing. You could barely hear it from the rush of water from the shower head.

“She said ‘get off my back’ a bit rude, huh?” you wipe a stray water droplet away from his eyelid.

“Mm-hmm” he hums, absolutely relaxed to the bone.

“I'm all done, Hobie— aaand you're asleep” you take notice of his soft snores. You sigh, admiring his sleeping face.

On a regular day you would've let him sleep, but this is the only time you could maintain and re-style his wicks. In between spider responsibilities and yours, this was a long awaited hair care day, scheduled weeks ago to accommodate your busy schedules.

You wake him up with a soft pat of his cheek. Hobie sleeps soundly, you're already feeling guilty for even trying to wake him up. Face upside down, you kiss his forehead. When that still doesn't work, you surrender, he deserves to rest. You can always continue the routine when he wakes up.

Taking the nearby towel, you gently pat the sides of his face dry first. Then there's a silent realization, how in the world are you getting him to bed? You're definitely not gonna let him sleep in the bathroom, no matter how cozy he looks.

“Babe?” You whisper into his ear. “Hobie, you gotta wake up so you can sleep properly in the bedroom”

“Huh?” Miraculously, he opens his eyes, his mind still asleep. “What?”

“You fell asleep while I was washing your hair. Guess I did too good, huh?”

“Hmm, you did, love” he yawns, “‘m awake now, please continue”

“You were out cold, I can always finish it after you've rest”

Hobie sits up, stretching his arms above his head, he turns around the stool to face you. Water drips onto the towel wrapped around his shoulders.

“I'm awake, see?” you're not entirely convinced with how his eyes slowly droop.

“I don't think so” you chuckle.

He rolls his eyes, you can see that he got an idea with how his lips curl into a mischievous smile. Before you could ask, he shakes his head rapidly. Water sprays all over your face from his still wet hair, you try to shield yourself with your arms, but it's too late, he's already finished with his attack.

Hobie laughs loudly, it bounces off the walls, emphasizing his happiness. Meanwhile, you look at him like you ran through a car wash. You're sopping wet, glaring at him all the while.

“I hand you my heart and you've betrayed me” you say dramatically.

“Sorry,” he chuckles all throughout the word. “Now we're both awake” Hobie pokes your wet cheeks.

Two can play at that game. You fling the shower head towards his face, water sprays him as he yells out a ‘is that how it is?!’ he splutters out, wet from head to toe. Hobie’s too quick though, he wrestles the shower head from your hand, you screech, smiling and giggling. Water drenches you two, the entire bathroom wet from your play fight.

He's mindful of his own strength, careful not to let you slip and fall off the stool. Hobie cradles your back with one arm, one leg up inside the tub and a knee on the edge to stabilize himself. With one quick movement of his leg, he shuts the water off with his foot.

You gasp out at his ingenious plan, hand over his bare chest. Hobie uses your reaction to smooch you with a wet kiss. You finally let him win, smiling throughout the kiss.

Will you ever finish the routine though? Maybe in a few hours after he's done attacking your face.
