Practice 3: Lighting

For this project I wanted to try and challenge myself. I have never done a prop or weapon before so to start with I had the sword in the stone in mind. I knew I wanted to try and create my own weapon and have that weapon held within something. As the legend goes only he who is chosen shall pull the sword from the stone and become king.

I started by drawing just silhouettes of some weapon ideas I had. I have learnt that silhouettes are a good place to start when it comes to constructing ideas and is very important when creating anything in concept art. The rule of thumb is that you should be able to tell what it is just by its silhouette.

My inspiration came from playing games such as Zelda: breath of the wild. There are many large or miniscule weapons to be found in the game and all have varied shapes and strengths. After a recommendation I was also inspired by the artwork in the game Hades. I want to produce a weapon in a similar style.

I went with a thunder sword design. As this project is about lighting I wanted to create something I could play on with lighting. I am always inspired by wolves so I wanted it to be weathered wolf based sword. I took inspiration from the wolf Sif in the game, dark souls. To continue further I wat to create a wolf statue that will hold the sword in its mouth.

Interesting points: many dangerous moments. Often you have to restart the level, because if you make a mistake once, you lose. In some levels, after one solved puzzle, the countdown starts before you have to solve the riddle, otherwise you lose.The fascinating thing about doing puzzles like this in VR is that even very simple puzzles—and these are very simple puzzles—can feel complex and engaging when you're "in the room.

Putting you into cunning espionage themed escape rooms, I Expect You To Die is a fun VR puzzler with a charming sense of humour and dozens of ways to die.
