🎆 "Ha! Kei's a hilarious guy!" He gulps. "Too hilarious. It's kinda scary sometimes." (He seems to be thinking back on a certain scenario.)
🐊 "Hey! That's Kei, isn't it? We should hang out again sometime- ooh, maybe we could cook something together??"
🌂 "A formidable opponent, capable of armed combat as well, and yet far too reckless for his own good."
🔁 "I don't know him that well. Seems like an interesting kid, though. Maybe he could get along with... I don't know, Klaus or something?"
☎️ "I have no words." (He doesn't look fond of him.)

Shadow the Hedgehog 2005 really captures what it's like to go off the rails with one (1) extrovert friend.
Because that one extrovert friend catches you in Westopolis contemplating a massacre and decides to alert all the nice people they know:
I totally buy Rouge, Omega and Amy maybe all would have rolled with Shadow at that point anyway, and were checking up on him. They also were going to be doing similar things anyway. But they made sure to go and find him especially.
Knuckles and Tails were Sonic's first call. They were already involved, definitely easy to get them to go where Shadow was going to be and roll with him. I'm sure it was a bit awkward for them, though; they probably had to consult Sonic on what to say.
The Chaotix are for hire all day everyday. I think Sonic promised to owe them if they made sure their mission definitely crossed paths with Shadow at the right place and the right time. This is extremely awkward, because they only met him once for a fight. They were not adequately prepared for his emotional state, hence the awful crisis management from Vector. Man is not a therapist.
Cream is killing me here. I don't think Sonic asked her. I also don't believe it's a coincidence she's in the castle: I think she heard from Amy they were all trying to be a good friend to Shadow and got herself and Cheese lost trying to help. Gold star for effort.
So if you've never been the problem loner who ends up tailed by well meaning people you don't know, play Shadow the Hedgehog to roleplay that crucial teenage experience.

In Defence Of Bite
In the Quinn's Quest review* of Slugblaster, Quinn mentions one of his minor issues with the game: the resource called Bite.
Bite is a pool of points the GM can spend to basically raise the threat of a situation - introducing new threats, accelerating threats that are already present, worsening consequences, all that sort of thing. Quinn argues that a good GM will already be doing these sorts of things. They'll introduce threats when it makes sense to do so, they'll advance timers at a good pace, they'll set consequences at a reasonable level...and that's true, those are all part of the skill of running a game.
The thing is, now that I've played Slugblaster, I don't think that's what it's for. It's not to plug holes in the skillset of a GM who plays their role well - it's to let them outright cheat.
The paradigm in Powered by the Apocalypse/Forged In The Dark games is pretty established by this point. Fail and bad stuff happens, partial success and good stuff happens with a drawback, succeed and good stuff happens. The thing is, those outcomes are fairly predictable. And that's not inherently bad! In fact I think it's generally good, it makes things make sense! But every so often, it's nice to throw something in a story that doesn't make sense.
That's what Bite is there for. According to the game setting, Slugblaster is about interdimensional teen skaters who should always be at least a little out of their depth, and Bite helps build that in. So that when your players are skating down a broken highway, a massive toad can hop out of nowhere and slime up their skates! Or when they're comfortably winning a race against their biggest rivals, their opponents can put on an extra burst of speed and pull into the lead! Or when they've basically escaped the Cyber-cops and slipped into an alleyway, a camera-drone can pop over a rooftop and sound the alarm!
All these things might come as a huge surprise to the characters, but the players will generally know how much Bite their GM has at any given time, and if there's still a little pile sitting there near the end of a scene, they might expect to run into a few twists.
Bite gives players reasons to push themselves take risks, and expect the unexpected. I love it!
---
*which is a great review, it's the first place I heard about the game and convinced me to buy it basically instantly, this is my only niggle with it and honestly it's very minor
