one of the most interesting things to me about tom's ladder-climbing is the fact that he was clearly not, in fact, that low to begin with. in a deleted scene from 2x3, he reveals that his dad teaches media studies - and has presumably done so as a career for most if not all of tom's life, given that this information is an argument against the notion of tom being a poor child. whether his mom's status as a Respected Twin Cities Divorce Lawyer was a factor back then too, at the very least his family could afford to recreationally hunt game.
but tom also says himself that he's been thinking his whole life about money. how to get money, how to keep money.
so the thing i have to wonder is, was that ever an issue? the wambsganses don't seem to have ever been anything but upper middle class. but who knows, maybe they've had their low spots. maybe tom had a mostly spoiled childhood but then the economy hit them kinda rough for a time. that would certainly inform tom specifying "how to keep money." maybe he's had to learn the hard way, in his formative years, how abruptly you could lose what had become normal to you if you weren't careful.
clearly tom's parents have been doing well for likely some years before the events of the show. but also not so well that their "contribution" to the wine at tom's wedding doesn't feel like a huge chunk of change to them. they're still at the point that they don't have the decorum not to act like money is a huge deal, which is telling. i have to imagine that, similar to greg, tom has been helping his parents out a bit since his salary has hit 6 figures. who knows how much of the money his parents spent was just tom's money to begin with - maybe none at all. maybe he's only paid off some debts and allowed their own income to pile up, and all they needed was that temporary safety net. it's likely enough that tom's dad's teaching salary has grown exponentially because of his age and experience, and that mom wambsgans has seen a huge boom in clients in recent years.
something else to consider is shiv's description of tom's family as striving -- which, while there is a lot of hostility at play during that whole scene, i believe is essentially true. thinking about that line and then about tom's parents in prenuptials, you get a really vivid image of the way the middle class desperately mimics the upper class. the way that, every once in a while, they can afford to. and then their desperation gives them away.
tom was raised by two very ambitious people, and it's trickled down to him. he was absolutely raised with an overt and vocally repeated message of do well in school, get into a good college, get a high-paying job. maybe they even told him better than ours... even though it seems his parents are to some extent following personal passions. divorce attorney and media studies professor aren't the kind of jobs that anyone does just because it pays well. they're both specializing in their fields, which is evidence enough of a real attachment to those careers even if we didn't also have mom demanding to see tom's prenup, and frankly the fact alone that tom himself went into media. like, if there was ever a sense of passion in tom's career, that was probably the connecting piece. after all, what boy doesn't want to impress his dad?
...and it's for that reason that i do not think tom was specifically told to be a business major. i feel pretty certain that he wouldn't have been discouraged from a career that made him happy unless it was a completely fruitless passion. but i don't know if i should then necessarily figure the opposite: that tom was ever specifically encouraged to find something to be passionate about. i can't imagine a tom any older than 10 trying to declare ambitions that were purely artistic in the first place. i might just be biased but tom seems like the type who has had this intuition from birth: to understand what others wanted from him and do it. i would say that, similarly to greg, simply being loved and approved of is tom's passion. and by god did he do it.
one last thing that stays on my mind is that tom went to an ivy league school, which i believe his own merit is somewhat responsible for. but, in contrast to greg now, i seriously doubt that tom has ever totally lacked a cushion. i think he had some relatively breezy college years. he studied hard, of course, and knowing that he was being supported the whole time likely helped.
(and he spent all that time at school, and another 2-4 years at another school, and still showed up in manhattan yet without a shell.)
obviously there's no telling exactly how much luck tom grew up with. a middle-class family's finances could easily be all over the place in a matter of 18 years. and they really probably were, because why else would keeping money be such a concern? and why would it stick so hard?
it's just interesting to think of how much more privileged tom's childhood must have been compared to so many, greg included, and yet how the roys are just so far up that it makes their situations feel equal.

watsonian explanation: man you don't know what gregory has gone through. any number of things could have happened in his life to have made him age like that. like just from the facts alone we have the fact that he was trying to juggle being a single father and A Fucking Lawyer. that alone is stressful but you can dig so much further into it. why was he a single father? where did the rest of his family go, since there was no one left for miles once gregory got shot? i think pretty much any digging into that can lead you to some fairly damning answers
also consider the fact that greg was born in the 60s. when smoking was like. REALLY really normal. and would continue to be normal well into the 80s when he would just be turning into an adult. with the former block of text in mind i don't think it's unfair to assume greg might have been a smoker. which would pretty reasonably end up making him look older
even further i don't think miles "had 'any imperfection is a weakness' drilled into his head at a young age" edgeworth having a hell of a skin care routine to keep up with is out of the question
doylian explanation: the investigations team and the dual destinies team weren't even in the same zip code when those designs were being made. they have absolutely no correlation with each other because they weren't even THINKING about that, partly because (gestures at the DD team + the state of the art direction) and partly because investigations 2 was unfortunately kind of a flop that didn't even officially make it out of japan. also what are you expecting they barely even gave edgeworth eyebags when he was still neck deep in his 15-years-of-sleep-deprivation stupor

Garrett Afton: Unfortunately, this version of Crying Child still dies at the age of 9 during his birthday at Fredbear's. Basically the same as the game, except now he has a name and different clothes.
Michael "Mike" Afton-Schmidt: After the Bite of 83', some time after Mrs. Afton filed for divorce and took Michael into her custody, but ever since he had always had guilt for being the reason for his brother dying and for the divorce, however indirect. Because of this, he has gotten interested in the paranormal and tries to change events in his dreams only to be disappointed when he wakes. Unfortunately, once his Mom died and his stepdad just kinda disappeared, he had to take care of his little sister, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth "Lizzie" Schmidt: Born post-divorce, and therefore technically a Schmidt, I don't really have much for Lizzie, except she always wanted to know more about her half-brother Garrett, but it always seemed to be a touchy subject for Mike and her mom. Mike was actually the one who got her interested in drawing, since Mike always drew in his sketchbook. Once she gets to Fazbear's and meets Gregory, she and him hit it off great.
Gregory Afton: Speaking of Gregory, he's the younger brother of Vanessa and half-brother of Mike, instead being with William Afton. Although he sometimes lives with Afton, he also visits Vanessa and lives with her for a few days, which Afton actually likes, since he's pretty nosy, and doesn't want him to get into Afton's "business". Gregory also likes living with Vanessa because she's just more fun than Afton. She even sometimes takes him to Fazbear's to hang out with the missing kids and eventually Elizabeth. He's also unfortunately very short despite being 12 (poor Greg 😭).
Vanessa Afton: Older sister of Gregory and half-sister to Mike, there isn't much to say about her since most of her motivations are the same as in the movie. However, she does now have Gregory to take care of, and doesn't like him spending time with Afton in fear of him getting hurt in the crossfire, along with Elizabeth and Mike.

heres some au stuff while i work on a longer story. mainly just for me so ik who everyone is but thought it would be good to post as well.
goldenrock au stuff below the cut bc its a tad long.
Characters:
THESE ARE NOT THE PERSONALITY TRAITS, JUST THE ROLE IN THE STORY
Cassie: Cassidy’s counterpart
Gregory: CC’s counterpart
Cassidy: Cassie's Counterpart
Evan: Gregory’s counterpart
Vanessa: Mikes counter but also Williams?
Mike: Ness’s counter but also Gregory's?
William: Still a serial killer but matches/mirrors Vanny from SB. so also a ness counterpart
Everyone else is the same mostly, don't really change the roles besides the fact that instead of CC (Greg in og) getting possessed by my mimic/glitch trap, it's mike (for GGYthing. Name would be MCL.) And William is still evil. He just follows a similar role to Vanny in sb but isn't a reluctant follower. He welcomes vanni as a parasite. He also is still partners with henry (business) but now they just own fredbears megaplex. Henry is basically the same. Charlie and Mike are close in age and Sammy is here too. And Jeremey. Bc gays. everyones a bit older here so like 16-17. They all work (illegitimately) at the plex as security guards on weekends and afterschool. Cheaper to pay and it keeps them out of trouble (looking at mike specifically). Vanessa is a corpse bc uhh… michael counterpart. She still works at the company as a repairman, but is not seen till later. all 5 missing kids (susie, gabriel, ect) are here as well, and they do indeed end up missing (more on that later)
Now animatronics. 
Goes up to the toys bc i like them best. So the mini music men are the main toys, with mangle as the actual music man. There's only 3 mini’s obviously lmao. Toy Freddy, Toy Bonnie, Toy Chica. But they are very fast and perform with mangle in the arcade. Puppet is a map bot but also sun and moon?. she floats from the celling like moon does with his cord but thats where the similarities end. She gives guests glowing green wristbands that serve as the fazwatch in this universe. its for parents to keep track of their kid, using an app?? But here it is used to track kids to isolate them from each other, and make them go “missing”. Like circus baby if ykwim. Speaking of which, circus baby. I like her. So she's here as well. Remember peepaw afton. Yeah well that's circus baby now. Used to get vanni (parasite little bitch) what she needs to survive, a body of her own. 
And uh funny story. Elizabeth finds out that her dad is possessed by a parasite from the 80’s and her brother is controlled by something similar, so William takes action ig. But wait. I'm not letting her go just yet. Afterall, Evan and Cassidy need a buddy to travel with as well, right? Their 2 extra friends aren't quite enough… So more on that later for spoiler reasons. also no mimic bc i dont even want to delve into that can of worms... closest u get is circus baby. be happy its JUST circus baby lmao
Ok main animatronics. Roxy, Glam Freddy, Spring Bonnie, and Golden Freddy. All the glamrocks are present in the 1980's original diner, but Ness got a bit angry and uhhh... oops Vanni made her kill people haha. so they are. gone. for now. Roxy and Freddy are completely robotic and have no sentience. Not in the traditional sense anyway. But… Spring Bonnie and Golden Freddy are. Got all that fun AI jazz. They don't match up with any of the glamrocks in particular? Just kind of their own character. So obviously spring bonnie gets the glitch thing from MCL William and is trying to kill Cassidy and Evan. Same with mangle and the toys. But GoldF is like glamrock freddy, AS A ROLE. completely diff personality. So he helps the kids. And that's when stuff really goes down.
Yeah. just explanation stuff hehe. left out greg, ness and cassie bc ive already talked about them a lot.

Summary: Y'all remember when Sandor trapped his big brother and tickled him to oblivion for revenge? Well, let's say the most feared knight of the kings guard won't put up with that...

Something was off. Sandor had a bad feeling for days now.
Since he made the escape out of the woods and hid a few days successfully from his vengeful brother, they first collided at the court for a training session with the other knights.
To Sandors surprise, Gregor didn't seem to seek revenge. He didn’t even talk to Sandor at first. It almost seemed as if the older one was ashamed due to the past events. The days went by and things returned to normal. Gregor acted as if nothing happened so the younger brother almost hoped the humiliation from the woods would be forgotten and never be talked about again. He'd loved to tease Gregor with the things he found out but he wasn't tired of life.
But now, about two weeks after his wicked revenge, Sandor felt like a massive storm is coming up all of a sudden. Gregs behaviour didn't change but he simply knew his brother won't just take such a humiliation. Him being so polite and unbothered was not a good but a warning sign. He probably planned something even worse, than Sandor could ever make up in his head.
What can I say? He knew his brother well. Cause he was right. Oh man, he was damn right. And then- the day came...
It was one of those warm and sunny evenings at Casterly Rock when Sandor decided to finally reach out to one of the maids, named Mable. He courted her for a long time now. He brought her flowers and wrote a few poets, even though he knew he wasn't good at it. And now, finally, he asked her to meet at one of the terraces with a great view over the sunset sea.
He had prepared a little picnic and was pretty nervous when he waited for her. Sandor wasn't used to feel such agitation. She was the most beautiful creature he ever laid his eyes on and much more important to him than all the negligible affairs before. Since he had seen Mable, he forgot about all the other girls he'd been with. Mable was not only beautiful. She was also smart and graceful with a great sense of humour. On top she wasn't panting after his highly trained knight's body like everyone else but seemed mildly unimpressed by his uncommon strength.
Of course this behaviour attracted and triggered Sandor in same measure. So he suggested to go to the training court after they finished their picnic. He planned to give her a taste of his skills and strength, hoping she'd be impressed. But things took a turn...
"Who's gonna fight me?", Sandor entered the court with Mable on his side and a lot of confidence hin his luggage.
The few men that were currently training looked at him confusedly.
"What about me?", another voice sounds from a different direction. It was -oh no-
Sandor hasn't seen his brother in the dark corner to his left, practising some shadowboxing. Even though the younger one was pretty well trained and uncommonly strong for his age, he'd never dare and challenge Gregor. The Mountain was feared among the knights, for good reasons.
But now he couldn't back down in front of the girl he desperately tried to impress. "Umm-", Sandor mumbled when Greg paused his practise and walked over to them.
"Isn't that your brother? The mountain?", Mable asked. Something in her voice had changed. She wasn't as confident anymore. It seems his presence somehow frightened her.
"That's right. But don't worry, I fought him many times before.", Sandor tried to play it cool, knowing exactly his brother always spares him. But he wasn't so sure he'd do him this favour now, after what happened.
Suddenly Greg put his arm on his little brothers shoulder what made Sandor look small next to his gigantic shape. He bowed down so his head was right behind Sandors ear and whispered loud enough, that Mable could hear him too: "So that's your new girl, huh? I bet she's not aware of your little weakness yet?"
Sandors stomach tightened but he tried not to show: "Beat it, Gregor!"
"That's perfect.", Gregor pulled his shirt over his head and then got into his typical fighting position. "I thought about my revenge a lot. Embarrassing you in front of your girl is better than anything I would've come up with!"
Sandor looked over to Mable, who was closely monitoring, shaking her head barely noticeable. "Don't."
He looked at his older brothers massive body with every muscle bulging clearly and already knew whatever was coming, he wouldn't perform well. What was also sure by now: Gregor wouldn't be as merciful this time. But turn tail before they even started wasn't an option.
Intentionally or not- Sandor also got into his fighting position, looking up to his 6.9 ft bear of a brother who was grinning from ear to ear. The younger one swallowed hard before he quickly moved forward and threw a punch. Gregor didn't dodge the attack on purpose, let his brother strike into his stone hard obliques just to show it doesn't mean shit to him.
"Adorable.", he snickered. All of a sudden his arm shot forward and caught Sandors fist who tried to land the next punch. Their eyes met for a second when Sandor realised it was over already.
The mountain turned his wrist, forcing Sandor to the ground, placing himself right above him. With his wrist tightly secured in his hand, he had full control over his little bothers body and movements.
"That's all it takes? I thought I trained you better!", Gregor shook his head disappointedly. Sandor was deeply embarrassed. He never lose that fast before, not even against his brother. That was by far his worst performance. "Let me go!" It was hard to understand what he was saying with his head being pushed into the dusty ground.
"Good joke, little one.", Gregor chuckled again. "We're not done here."
"Greg, no!", Sandors heart started racing. He didn't knew exactly what his brother would do to him but he knew he'd ruthlessly humiliate him in some way. With Mable watching.
He looked up to her from below and saw that she had her hands in front of her mouth with wide eyes.
"What's your name, precious?", Gregor ignored his brother beneath him, turning towards the maid.
"Mable.", she tried to sound confident but everyone could hear the insecurity in her voice. Some of the other knights had come closer to watch the scene. Most of them had been defeated by Sandor before, so they desired to watch the skilled knight getting his ass handed to him.
"Beautiful name. So Mable, you probably think my little brother is a respectable warrior who's going to protect you with these strong muscles.", Gregor squeezed into Sandors defined bicep, right beneath the armpit, who immediately flinched with an involuntary grunt leaving his throat.
"Well- you're wrong.", Greg snickered. "Listen up guys!", he turned towards the other knights. "Everyone who had been beaten by him, I‘ll give you some information you can deal with however you want!“
„Gregor NO! Shut up!“, the younger brother shouted strongly. He had a bad feeling about this.
„You gotta know he may be able to defeat you if you’re attacking with fists or swords - but - have you tried fingers yet?“, without further warning Gregor scribbled his free hand all over Sandors involuntary exposed ribcage.
„GREG NOHOHOO FUHUHUCK YOUHAHAHAA!!“, Sandor started twitching from left to right uncontrollably, shouting and laughing from the top of his lungs. He couldn‘t even hold it in for at least a few seconds.
The knights exchanged some irritated but amused looks while Gregor continued tickling his brothers ribs: "What's wrong, Sandor? Are we a little ticklish?"
Sandor started screaming while laughing his ass off when Gregor stayed at his back ribs, a really bad spot indeed. "PLEHEHEASE! STOHOHOP!!" He didn't dare to look up to Mable who was probably still watching the scene. Sandor was deeply embarrassed about how the situation turned out. "NOHOHO MOHORE PLEHEASE GREHEGAHAHAA!!"
All of a sudden the tickling stopped. Between his own diminishing laughter, Sandor heard a weird noise, something like the squeak of a piglet. Greg let go of him and Sandor immediately turned towards him to dodge any further attacks. The scene before him surprised the younger brother completely: Mable had sneaked up on Gregor from behind to attack him with tickles as well! Greg, wo was caught completely off guard couldn't stifle an involuntary squeak and fell off of him.
"W-What are youhu-", Sandor stumbled, still giggling, looking at the young woman in absolute disbelieve.
Gregor turned around as quick as a viper, catching her hands in a heartbeat. with her wrists captured, he got up and increased his appearance to his full size. "What do you think you're doing?"
Mable looked up to him with a cheeky smile. Her attitude had changed. Even though she has fallen into disgrace by now, she seemed confident again. "I was tickling you:", she answered with a smirk.
Gregor looked down with a stony face. He didn't know what to counter when, out of nothing, he squeaked again!
Sandor had approached from behind and clawed into his brothers ribs! Gregs arms immediately trapped his hands but he couldn't build up enough pressure to immobilise his fingers completely so Sandor continued tickling him. Every muscle in Gregors giant body tensed while he tried not to burst out laughing. His grip around Mable‘s wrists loosened while trying to figure out what to do.
"Come on guys! Help us! That's your chance to take revenge for every time he humiliated you!", Sandor invited the knights around.
That was the moment Gregor knew he needed to act. He let go of Mable and turned around to face his brother. He didn't waste a second and pounced on him to start a rigorous tickle attack. But before Gregor could lay his hands on his brothers ticklish upper body, two tiny hands squeezed into his sides from behind. "Ehehey!!" He turned his head around, still sitting on his brothers waist, only to meet Mables bold gaze. She smirked when she continued clawing into his ribs.
"Fuhuck! Stop that NOW!", Greg captured one of her hands when very sudden his other wrist was pulled backwards. He lost his balance and fell on his back. Then he saw one of the knights, who had pulled him off his brother and now kneeled on his arm. Before he could use his free hand to grab him, another knight caught it and did the same. Gregor didn't know what hit him when he suddenly laid flat on his back, two knights kneeling on his tree trunk shaped arms and another two hurrying to hold his ankles in place. "What-?! GET OFF YOU BASTARDS!"
Well- those knights might enjoyed watching Sandor being punished but Gregor?? Gregor was the epitome of harassment to them. They’d probably give their left leg to see him suffer for once.
The mountain pulled as hard as he could and - indeed! - he managed to lift up his arms slowly but surely, with the whole bodyweight of his opponents on top! His strength was inhuman!
Just when the knights realized it was a risky idea to challenge this monster of a man, his brother rose up in front of him. His eyes had a fierce glance. "You're going to suffer SO BAD for this."
"Sandor-", Gregor shook his head in a warning manner. "You'll regret this!"
"How could I regret this?", he smirked when he kneeled down next to his brother. Then he slid one finger up and down his side, drawing little circles here and there. The muscles on Gregors upper body bulged out again. "Ahhrghh. DON'T!"
"Wan't a piece of the cake too?", Sandor grinned over to Mable who came closer with an evil smirk. She seemed proud of her actions.
"Sit down.", he winked at her and she kneeled on Gregors left.
"You thought it would be a nice revenge to humiliate me in front of my girl? Well, you underestimated her.", Sandor smirked, then made an inviting gesture. "Ladies first."
Mables smile widened when she started wiggling her fingers at Gregor, who's eyes widened. He seemed to be unable to accept what was going on here. Again, he tried his best to get out, while shaking his head. "Nonono! Don't you dare!"
"Oh I dare!", she snickered when her sharp nails started skittering all over his ribcage. Gregor immediately lost it: "EHEHEVIL BIHITCH! KNOHOCK IT OFF!"
"Wow he's indeed very ticklish!", she giggled, surprised about his intense reaction.
"Right?", Sandor snickered. "I always wanted to test how bad his armpits are." He moved is hands in his direction and watched Gregor go crazy about it.
"NOHO FUHUCK NOO! DON'T TOHOUCH ME!", he sounded pretty fed up but the involuntary giggling due to the soft tickling of Mable destroyed his fearsomeness.
"I'll be gentle, don't worry.", Sandor smirked when he slid one finger from Gregors elbow down his bicep.
"FUHUCKING PRIHICK!!", Gregor tried everything in his power to free himself but for the first time (in forever?) nothing helped. Six opponents at once that were also aware of his probably biggest weakness was simply too much. He was inferior.
When Sandor finally reached his exposed armpit, a helpless scream slipped out of Gregors throat: "AHHHAHAAA PLEHEHEASE DON'T!! SAHAHANDOR!"
"I think I never saw someone as ticklish as him! Wow!", one of the knights chuckled.
"I mean you barely touch him!", another agreed.
"Yeah but we can change that!", Sandor grinned and started clawing into both of Gregors armpits at once.
An indescribable scream, followed by hysterical laughter was Gregors involuntary response to that merciless attack. While everyone was exchanging surprised looks while smirking or chuckling because of that reaction, Mable started kneading his hips softly.
Gregor, who wasn't able to threaten anymore, shook his hip from left to right, to escape her torturous hands. But Mable wasn't easy to dismiss, so she climbed on his waist to straddle it. Unfortunately her bodyweight wasn't enough for the mountain to hold still, so Sandor climbed on his chest as well. Now he was immobilised completely.
When Sandor looked down to his screaming and laughing brother, he recognised an uncommon glance on his face: Fear.
He didn't even know the mountain was able to sense such an emotion. So the younger one decided it was time to give him a break and slowly decreased the tickling. Mable also stopped and the laughter slowly subsided.
While Gregor still was breathing heavily, Sandor bent forward so his face was only a few centimetres away from Gregs.
"Do you apologise, brother?"
A contemptuously hiss was the answer.
"You sure?", Sandor snickered, clearly enjoying the power he held in this moment. He started drawing soft, little circles with his pointing finger right beneath Gregors armpit, an even worse spot he discovered.
"You little shihit!", his big brother growled when another giggle slipped. "Youhu better apohologise!"
"Wrong answer.", Sandor chuckled, while giving everyone a sign, Gregor clearly understood. "You seem to mistake the situation. You're not the one in charge here."
"SANDOR, NO! FUCK DON'T LET THEM- PLEASE! WE'RE BROTHERS!", Gregors panic grew when he noticed the knights on his ankles were taking his shoes off.
"You know the game of thrones brother. You described it to me quite a few times. Wether you win-or?", Sandor looked down at him with an evil smirk. "Say it."
"MY ASS!", Gregor shouted.
"Say. It.", Sandor started kneading his armpits, provoking helpless laughter once again.
"-ohor youhu diehehee!", Gregor gave in, laughing desperately.
"Correct! Since you lost, it’s time to die now!", Sandor celebrated when all at once started tickling a certain spot:
The knights that were sitting on his legs spidered their fingers over his bare soles, the ones on his arms were targeting an armpit each while Mable focused on his thighs. Sandor was still kneeling on top of his hips, kneading his sides and ribs mercilessly.
That was too much for the mountain, who remained more of a molehill, at best.
“BAHAHAHA-BAHAASTAHARDS!! I’LL KIHILL Y’AHAHAALL!!”, he screamed on top of his lungs before his words drowned in a hysterical laughing fit.
“Aww poor brother, are you too sensitive to handle a little tickling?”, Sandor mocked, knowing he’d be doomed himself if he was sin Gregors shoes. “Look at the fierce Mountain, everyone! Collapsing under a few skittering fingers!”
“FUHUCK OHOFF!”, Greg groaned tortured between the high-pitched laughter.
“Hopefully our enemies won’t figure this out!”, one of the knights chuckled.
“The’d probably switch their swords to a more effective weapon. Such as feathers!”, another one laughed along.
“Shush!”, Mable acted as if she wanted to protect Gregor, only to go one better: “It must be hard for him to train his whole life and maintain the facade of a fierce warrior only to have it destroyed in seconds because of this big weakness he can do nothing about!”
Gregor, who was still laughing uncontrollably, didn’t get much of the conversation but he knew they were making fun of him. He hasn’t been humiliated like this his whole life. And he knew he couldn’t take much more. No more teasing but especially no more tickle torture.
“I’LL PEHEEEL OFF YOUR SKIHIN AHAND EHEAT IT FOHOR DIHINNER!!”, he threatened, helplessly laughing.
“What did you say? Couldn’t understand due to all that laughter bubbling out of your mouth.”, Sandor chuckled poking his abs continuously.
“LIHISTEN YOUHU FUHUCKERS!! HE’S MY BRHOHOTHER AND SHE’S AHAHA GIHIRL BUHUT YOUHU-“, Gregor turnt to the knights, that were totally absorbed in tickling him to pieces. “-I’LL TAHAHAKE YOUR LIHIVES IF YOUHU DON’T STAHAHAP RIHIGHT NOW!! I MEHEAN IT!!” Gregor almost failed to finish his sentence due to all the laughter and upcoming coughing.
Well, that threat had an impact finally. The knights exchanged knowing looks, aware of the ruthlessness the giant warrior normally shows. They knew he wasn’t joking.
“Don’t listen to him! That’s empty talk! The king would punish him endlessly if he harms any of you.”, Sandor tried to prevent them from turning their back on him.
“I’LL MAHAKE IT LOHOOK LIKE AHAN ACCIDEHENT!”, Gregor countered with all the discipline he had left. The knights had stopped the tickling when one suddenly rose up. He had secured one of his arms so Greg didn’t waste any time and grabbed the other one that still kneeled on his other forearm.
“I’m sorry! Please don’t hurt me! I’m sorry!”, he immediately pleaded, even though there were still four people securing the rest of Gregors body.
Sandor, who realised it’s only a matter of time, Gregor would free himself completely, exchanged a warning look with Mable: "Run!"
She looked from him to Gregor who slowly but surely rose up. "B-But you-"
"I'll be fine! Now leave!", Sandor demanded while giving his everything to hold his brother down.
Mable didn't seem convinced but she rose up and hurried to make a run from it. She knew she wasn't able to protect Sandor from him so she decided to at least save herself. The other knights immediately did the same, hoping they could somehow get away with what they've done.
Only seconds later, Sandor was left alone with his exhausted brother who was still boiling with rage. Without much effort the Mountain freed himself and pinned Sandor beneath him.
"Truce?", the younger one asked with intimidation.
The evil smirk on his brothers lips was answer enough.
"You know how it is, Sandor. Power is power. And you'll have a taste of mine now."

Non-Review: Free Comic Book Day 2021 - The Legend of Korra (Also Featuring Avatar: The Last Airbender)
With all the hype around 'Suki Alone,' it looks to me like most of the fandom missed that an additional Avatar comic with a story from each cartoon's era was just released for Free Comic Book Day. You can read them for yourself on either Dark Horse Digital or Comixology where it's mislabeled as being for ages 17+ (free accounts are required for both), but I'm sure one of the reasons you all love me is because of my willingness to jump in between you and these comics like the deadly bullets they can be. Well, I'm happy to die (metaphorically) for the sake of (a little anonymous internet) love, so I'm doing a full snarky review for each ten-page story. Also, I'm bored, and it's more fun to make fun of mediocre stuff than to praise stuff I like.
It's time for me to review "Free Comic Book Day 2021 - The Legend of Korra (Also Featuring Avatar: The Last Airbender)" or more specifically "The Legend of Korra: Clearing the Air" and "Avatar: The Last Airbender: Matcha Makers."
CLEARING THE AIR
The cover makes this look like a story about Jinora and Ikki having a sibling conflict. That's a lie. The Air Sisters arguing is merely the inciting incident for Tenzin telling a story of his youth. I should note that, as inconsequential as the Air Sisters stuff is, it's actually written very well because it posits Ikki as a victim of circumstance and Jinora as a bully who terrorizes her little sister with threats of getting thrown in jail by Metalbenders for an accident, cementing the characterization from the cartoon. This is not sarcasm. I really do think Jinora is presented by LoK as a Holier Than Thou little snot who just so happened to be naturally gifted with magic spirit-powers, but for some reason the rest of the fandom doesn't agree with me.
Anyway, Tenzin comes in to find the arguing (and Meelo just running amok for the fun of it and so far these characterizations are perfect), and rather than telling Jinora to shut her stupid face, he delivers a tale of his youth about conflict resolution.
So the meat of the story is how, when Tenzin was "a few years older" than Jinora, a pair of vandals got onto Air Temple Island and burned some graffiti into the spinning-panel things that Korra will destroy out of frustration during her Airbending training. Literally, the vandals are depicted as scorching the wood with enough smoke to be seen across a plaza. Tenzin goes after the vandals and they flee across the bay back to Republic City proper (one of the vandals is a Waterbender with a surf-plank). Tenzin pursues, catches them, and attacks them hard enough to smash some dockside crates. They are all then arrested by Metalbenders and dragged before Chief Toph. She's going to let Tenzin go (yay Toph!) and throw the vandals in jail (YAY TOPH!) and makes this face, and this entire comic is worth it:

However, Aang arrives and instead arranges to forgo the jail-time in favor of an Air Nomad Conflict Resolution Ceremony. This is nice and in-character, but I'm totally with Tenzin that these vandals should have been thrown in jail. They literally burned insulting graffiti into antiques from a genocided culture. But instead, Aang demonstrates conflict resolution by having Tenzin explain why he's hurt and what needs to be done to redress the wrong. And so the vandals help Tenzin scrub the graffiti off the panels with water and rags and mops- how, I don't know, since they were literally burned.
They also do a ceremony thing where they each take turns bending their element into a central space between them to 'clear the air' (GET IT GET IT HA HA IT'S ALMOST LIKE A PUN BUT NOT), so it's a good thing they were all Benders because this is kinda racist. This fixes all the problems and everyone is friends. Yay!
In the present, though, things are not so nice, because Tenzin's kids are still screaming at and provoking each other. Korra comes in with Asami at the end to ask what's going on, and Asami says nothing, so I still think everyone is characterized with perfect consistency with the cartoon.
I made this sound silly, but (aside from the spinny-panels getting cleaned with a little water and elbow-grease, which doesn't matter because Korra will eventually blow them all up anyway), I actually like this one. It has Tenzin demonstrate how much he's always had to work to be the Perfect Air Monk that everyone expects him to be, and Aang acknowledges how this is unfair but that Tenzin will never let him down no matter what. It also has Katara come in at the end (for just one line, boo!) to acknowledge that this was an especially easy little conflict for Tenzin to practice on and he'll eventually face worse. I found it a nice adult moment in a story that's otherwise clearly aimed at 8-year-olds.
The art is good. It's simpler than the LoK cartoon, with flat colors, but it captures the story and has enough liveliness for everyone's character to come across in their look and body-language. The brief action-sequence where Tenzin attacks the vandals is well done, moving quickly but showing the full flow of the fight and every move Tenzin makes.
MATCHA MAKERS
Apparently, "Matcha is finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves, traditionally consumed in East Asia" according to Wikipedia. I had to look that up. I'm curious how many people understood the full reference in the title, especially since these comics are aimed at kids too young to be allowed on the internet.
This is a very simple story about Iroh in his tea-shop in Ba Sing Se. He has an assistant/waitress named Feng, a new character who wears glasses, ruining the hopes and dreams of all the fanfic-writers who were so sure he'd rescue Jin from the Lower Ring. A frequent patron of the tea shop is an elegant, older lady (very clearly Upper Ring material) named Li-Mei, who cannot go a single panel without giving Iroh a HEY BIG BOY look. She is very clearly smitten. Also, I feel the need to clarify that she knows his name is Iroh, so apparently Ba Sing Se is okay with the Dragon of the West serving tea to their wealthy. I don't say that as a criticism, I'm just noting it.
That night, Iroh meets up with his friends- the Pokemon-style spirits that we saw in Legend of Korra. (I don't know if they're the actual spirits from LoK, or just new spirits in the same style. This is because I would sooner grind matcha into my eyes than rewatch Book Spirits.) He serves them his special blend of tea and talks about how he's totally into Li-Mei but isn't going to pursue it because he's feeling old and doesn't want to take a risk. At this point, I could stop describing the plot because between the title and what I've said so far, I'm sure you could figure out every single plot beat that will follow.
The next day, the spirits trip Feng so that she drops Li-Mei's tea and Iroh needs to bring a replacement, and they've drawn hearts on top of the replacement tea with foam or sugar or milk or whatever. I don't know because I've never bought tea in a place that will even put the bag in the hot water for me. Iroh gets out of the situation without starting any love-affairs and runs into the back to tell the spirits to knock it off, dudes, they're totally embarrassing him! The spirits respond by giving him a flyer for a romantic restaurant. I don't know how they got it, so I can only assume that some Upper Ringer had their mail diverted.
Iroh refuses, so when Li-Mei orders more tea and he brings it to her, the spirits hover just out of her sight and threaten to smash the furniture. I am not making that up. They literally threaten to smash Iroh's furniture unless he asks the lady out. He submits to their tyrannical threats, Li-Mei happily accepts the date, he happily accepts her acceptance, and the story comes to a close. Iroh thanks his spirits friends for opening him up to new experience, but hopes that next time (so I guess Iroh is signing up for Tinder after this?) they won't threaten his shop.
At best, I can describe this story as 'harmless.' But it's been a long week and I just got a bunch more extra work at my day job that I really don't want to do, so I'm going to go ahead and call this story 'dumb.' It's rote, leans towards humor without actually being funny at all, and turns the spirits of the setting into Pokemon. And not even the cool dragon kind.
The art is strangely stiff. The coloring is soft and nice, but the drawings seems more 'assembled' than actually drawn. I swear there are even a few panels that reminded me of 'How I Became Yours' with janky poses, horrifying expressions, and just enough resemblance to the original cartoon to make me think a screenshot was partially traced and then ruined. (I'm not accusing the artist of tracing, BTW. I wouldn't even condemn the artist for tracing if they did. I'm just describing that HIBY feeling I got.) It was so stiff that rather than hear Iroh's dialogue in Mako's rich tones, I instead imagined Greg Baldwin doing a stiff Mako-impression with no naturalism to the delivery.

This story is definitely worthy of its "Also Featuring" billing. I'd rate it below Gene Yang's Mai and Suki FCBD short stories, but above everything else he wrote for Avatar.
So there you go. Overall, this is very middle-of-the-pack for Avatar FCBD stuff. It's very much of the nature of the 'Team Avatar Tales' stuff, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Iroh story was a leftover from that project. On Free Comic Book Day, you often get what you pay for.

STEVINEL IS NOT PEDOPHILE (AND IS BAD SAY IT)

Today I finally got the inspiration from multiple publications stating that stevinel is in fact a pedophile ship and therefore we should not support it. Since I am a multishiper and I am very much in love with spinel I could not miss the opportunity to defend this ship to cloak and dagger.
Many of these comments I saw in the English fandom and the truth is that the debate did not seem to go anywhere like:
-is a pedophile ship one has 6000 and 17
-the gems are ageless.
[And I didn't really see that they would get anywhere, especially with a lot of immature people insulting most of the time and let's admit that comments from networks like Instagram or Twitter are not the best place to debate
Let's start by getting some concepts straight: Pedophilia :
Sexual attraction of an adult to a child of either sex. (google dictionary) This means that there must be a crush on a person who is (usually) considered an adult at 18 years of age or older and a minor who can be a baby from 5 years old to a puberty of about 14 years old, and between an adult + 20 years old and a teenager - 18 years old. Pedophilia does not occur among people who are at the same stage of life. Like two teenagers or two adults even if their ages seem far apart, see the case of two adults whose age difference is between 30 and 50 years.
Biological age
Biological age is marked by the number of years since your birth that your body and mind develop and change. We human beings have clear concepts of life stages, we know when childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age begin. There are even approximate ages where one has to consider oneself an adult. Like 18 or 21 years old.
And a number of behaviors are expected depending on your age, for example if you've had a brother or a cousin and you've seen it since you were a baby you may have seen one of these little brochures of what a healthy child should do depending on his age. Mental age Mental age is measured by a person's intellect and knowledge, which may or may not coincide with biological age.
Since biological age is expected to coincide with mental age and healthy development is usually measured only by the time a person has lived. Now, how does this work for gems? According to the concepts of the series a gem is literally a stone with a physical form of light, like a hologram with mass, these share many characteristics of humans such as being able to think, feel emotions and imitate some actions that naturally do not need to do like eating and sleeping. In humans it is very easy to measure age only by the amount of time since birth, because they change, and as the pink diamond itself showed. Gems can change but they don't need to.
The gems society is characterized by having a defined and static role and if you don't comply with it you are dead. Let's start with the mental age: In the diamond society everything worked in a very simple way, if you were born and you had to be a mechanic, you will be one for the rest of your life, since you are born with the necessary knowledge to fulfill this role. You don't need to learn new things unless it is about mechanics since you will not dedicate yourself to anything else, you don't need to alter your physical form since you are not allowed to, you don't need to change since you must fulfill your work and nothing else.
Your mental age remains completely stagnant because it does not have the need to mature just to fulfill your work, the gems are born with the ability to speak, communicate and interpret ideas, as is the case of Ruby Leggy, who was born one day when he left for his first mission.
Biological age :
The same Pearl confirmed that the gems cannot be babies, nor to age, reason why the babys and the old age do not exist for the gems. To the being its body only a projection of light the form that can acquire is very varied and changes of radical way in some occasions, although the form that represents an adult woman, this form changes radically depending on the class of gems, lapis lazuli and pearl have a body formed of a young woman, the quartz gems have a much more muscular and robust body that is made much to a physical-culturalist man.
The clearest example of a male gem is Topaz, since anyone would think he was a man until the moment they heard his voice, and even though the rutile twins use the female pronouns have a masculine appearance.

Gems like Fluorite are represented as a much older woman, even though their components may all be young.
She speaks very slowly due to the amount of gems that have to process the information within her mind.
And gems like Padparadcha have a much younger and smaller appearance, like some girls, compared to Sapphire because of her behavior Not to mention gems that are literally rocks and walls that are impossible to classify. All of these exaggeratedly different shapes make people interpret gems with different ages based on their behavior and appearance.

amethyst is the example of a growing gem, perhaps the fact that it is defective has a lot to do with it, she crawls in her first seconds of life during the film and imitates everyone like an infant trying to form her personality from others, she had a much sweeter and smaller appearance in Greg and Rose's flashbacks, being carried by Perla and hiding behind Rose's lack, Rebecca confirms on a podcast that Rose was like a mother to amethyst, if the gems were adults without exception, why would an adult need a mother figure of another adult?
Her outfit accompanies her as she has comfortable clothes and a skirt, she behaves like a teenage big sister figure for Steven during the series by accompanying him, at the same time that he allows himself to mock and fight with him, having that love / hate relationship that many people with brothers can understand and as an adult when reaching the future.
Peridot is represented in a very childish way too, the people who ship stevidot did it because they saw a kid, suddenly she was the same size as Steven, she behaved childishly and Mr. Smile called her kid, so far it was only confirmed that It was from era 2, so it could be both 5000 and 5 years old.
Probably the gems need to get along as a team, if they have to coexist with many other gems, but in theory this does not go beyond a coexistence or friendship of work colleagues since dependence or romance leads to sentimentality, which for the mother planet is useless and even harmful. In short, from birth all their social and intellectual development is truncated and they cannot mature So for most gems on homeworld their mental age is almost the same from birth to destruction.
This was demonstrated with Peridot and lapis in the episode "The New Crystal Gems" Both are gems from the mother planet, one knew how to terraform planets and the other had extensive knowledge of engineering, however they fought over who was to blame for their failure using insults like "foolish" and comparing themselves with other people, a very childish behaviour. So much so that a human thousands of years younger had to correct them. Within the series we were unable to confirm if peridot and lapis had a team to socialize with. So it is likely that throughout their lives they have not had the need to socialize and live together, or even accept their mistakes. Peridot seemed like a child prodigy with so many scenes of childish behavior and her high knowledge of what she was assigned, while other gems like pink diamond were born as immature children and it took her millennia to reach maturity.
With the case of spinel it is completely different. In her introduction stanza she says "her cut is perfect and she is pink too, she will give you endless entertainment, your new spinel best friend" that and together with what later says pearl "she was the little pink diamond playmate". It gives us an idea of what spinel used to look like.
It even strikes me that pearl refers to her as "little playmate" giving the impression that some gems are considered bigger than others based on their rank/trade or size.
First, let's remember that Spinel is literally based on a cuddly toy that Rebecca loved but forgot in a garden and when she returned after a year her belly was black from the fading sun, the doll was in the same place but had already been permanently damaged. Rebecca wanted her character to feel old as "stuck in time" that's why she uses Ruben Hose style animation from the 30's and later in future she uses references to 90's video games to give the feeling that she grew up since she left the earth but she still keeps an old and animated essence.
Spinel is a gem that was born perfectly fine and flawless, besides being literally a living cartoon like a lonnytoon, was created only with knowledge of gameplay and fun to eternally entertain its owner, and that was all she cared about, making her best friend happy .
She was practically a child, all she cared about was playing and being happy with her best friend, something that a neuro-typical adult would not do. She spends most of the movie without leaving Steven's side, even when she sees that he is depressed she can't think of a way to comfort him and just tries to make him laugh, instead of asking him about the problem and trying to provide him with a solution. I can't help but think that she was playing the whole time, from her fight in her evil form and the time she was in her friendly form with the rest of the gems, since almost every battle consists of dodging the attacks as if she were playing tag, and using the gems as dolls or balls. He even says he doesn't want to play anymore when he's done with Steven 💔
And after being stuck in the garden doing nothing but waiting without moving, the phrase "stuck in time" becomes more literal since by doing absolutely nothing but thinking there is no change or maturity. It is not until after the trauma that she goes into a fit of thinking she has changed for the worse, but she was not thinking reasonably at that time. Her best friend left her and she wanted to kill a whole planet. What was she going to do after she succeeded? How would she get back to the mother planet where we had killed a new diamond?

After the film she goes on with her life with the diamonds, the series did not deepen much in her development so she seems to be better, even after her scars manifested in tears and dark circles she still maintains an energetic personality, excited and wanting to help even if it is with a stupid song. Spinel is certainly not close to looking like a mature adult for her 6000 years of age, like many other gems.
As for her physical form I am not 100% sure what age she is approaching as the designs of the gems are very varied and extravagant. She has an adorable and childish design, like a cuddly toy, her height is in fact almost the same as Steven's (17 years old) and she also has good hips in some scenes. I would say that her shape resembles that of a young girl.

Even people who are not very familiar with the series might classify her as a child or a teenager, but not as an adult. Because the logic of the human body and biological age cannot be applied to gemstones, this is the reason why many ships Stevenx gem are so popular, but adult human x Steven don't exist at all. Because they know that age only applies to humans.
I know I've focused a lot on Spinel but because of Steven being half human there's not much mystery.
His physical form literally fits his mental age. Let's also remember that Steven is not 14 anymore, he was 16 at the time of the movie and 17 in the middle of the Future series, there were many time jumps within this series and I think the longest one was right at the end, where it had been months since the collapse and since he started therapy, when he finally decided to move he could perfectly have been 18, which is the age to become independent, at least in the USA, he is not a child, he is starting his young adult stage, just 4 years old from the age Greg was when he fell in love with Rose.
Conclusion.
Even if he were 17, he can drive, he can move, he can be independent and choose his own path, he had just left the nest and that is called being a conscious adult. Besides the fact that the separation of 18 years is used only for consent to sexual relationships before the law, but in practice it is the approximate age at which a person should already mark his maturity, that you like ships with minors is not a justification for drawing nsfw with minor characters, and it is not intended to defend that in any way in this blog, ships like the conniverse can work without +18 content in the same way that stevinel can have content without +18.
The gems can have an age but it is not at all similar to that of humans, since by the circumstances you are can remain stagnant during millennia or change in few years, the same for their physical form since you are not able to acquire a form of baby or old people, and its body remains of the same size throughout all its life, except for cases like the one of Rose/Pink.
I know that there are many people who don't like stevinel because it is toxic or because there is conniverse and I won't say that it isn't because the blog is not about that.
I know some will say that "but they are adults, no matter how they look, act and be like children." Well, it does matter, since we are talking about immortal aliens who are not born, grow, reproduce, or die.
The cartoons do not always represent human beings realistically, much less immortal characters. In fantasy a child can have a highly developed body or a PhD, and an adult can transform into a child with time machines and grow twice.
The fact that Steven falls in love with a gem whose shape resembles that of his age is as healthy as Greg, who fell in love with a gem in a physical form similar to women of his age, Who should have the appearance and maturity of an elderly woman for her millions of years, but the fact that she acts and looks like an adult is what makes her an adult character. His cousin Andy confirmed that he has always liked big women, so he could have fallen in love with Rose 4 years earlier too.
Spinel does not have to exercise a power relationship over Steven, her dependence arises from the fear of being abandoned and not because she is jealous of her other friends, when she leaves with the diamonds, it is seen that she is not attached to them all the time. He gives himself the freedom to meet new people through the halls of the palace and leave the diamonds alone when requested, proving that he is capable of changing for the better just as Steven told him.
So the relationship could work if the right circumstances are given, such as in the AU where fans give themselves the freedom to invent scenarios where the spinel does not try to kill him, where Steven is of legal age, where both are human, etc. And so with many other ships that can go from toxic to healthy in a few fanfic chapters.
We must not forget that it is a caricature and that everyone can have fun shiping characters. Unfortunately this age argument has become a bad excuse to hate a shipp or the people behind it.
And it's wrong to say this because reducing such a strong theme to something childish, fictional and fantasy can be considered an offense to the victims that exist in real life, this myth has given rise to what real people who cannot enjoy their tastes and what others find a perfect excuse to be haters without measuring their words.
Both children and adults do not perceive an adult and a child in relationships involving immortal characters even after knowing the series, this was never the first thought of someone who saw the characters together, in fact it was 5 months from the release of the film before I found out that someone was calling the relationship "pedophilia".
Because they don't grow linearly like humans do. Unlike relationships between human characters of a more realistic appearance as happened with Danny PantomxVlad where they can see first sight who is the adult and who is the child.
What they can see with the naked eye is how well accepted it is to insult the likes of others, that it's okay to be made to feel bad for making the terrible mistake of liking a ship, and that you have the right to insult the likes of others. if they do the same with yours. Which is too present in the Steven Universe fandom.
So no, they are not protecting children from pedophilia in the SU fandom, they are harming real children at the cost of trying to protect a fictional young man, making them insecure of their tastes, giving them the tools necessary to hate someone to death, and making them accept that their tastes are terrible and they must swallow them even if they are not doing anything wrong.

Accusing innocent people of pedophiles, liking or promoting pedophilia is not something you can take so lightly, also it should be illegal if everyone can be a pedophile for simple and innocent things, the word loses its meaning and the subject is taken too lightly, reducing the severity of actual pedophilia and causing serios problems for people who ate wrongfully accused.
They both look good together to me and I can still enjoy comics and pictures of them together, and those who don't, live with it, and enjoy your favorite ship.

DC TV Watch: New 'Arrow' Showrunner Dives Deep Into Those Flash-Forwards

Executive producer Beth Schwartz breaks down what those premiere flash forwards mean for the future of the series, plus other crucial season seven information.
Those flash forwards: Viewers were left reeling when the end of the Arrow season seven premiere revealed that those island "flashback" scenes throughout the episode were actually flash forwards. Taking place 20 years in the future, Oliver Queen's (Stephen Amell) now grown son William (Ben Lewis) journeyed to Lian Yu to link up with a now middle-aged Roy Harper (Colton Haynes) for a mysterious reason that will be explored throughout the entire season (and future seasons as well).
"I've been on the show since the beginning and we had always in the room discussed the possibility when the flashbacks ended that we would do the flash forwards," executive producer Beth Schwartz tells The Hollywood Reporter. "Especially since we knew about William and we thought that would be really cool to see how he's been affected by his childhood and his father. We always wanted to do something like that and then this season I pitched it to Greg [Berlanti] and he was like, 'Yes!' We knew we wanted something fresh and new for season seven and my favorite part of the show was always the flashbacks and the mystery of how Oliver became the Green Arrow and his origin story."
While Schwartz doesn't remember which writer or producer originally came up with the flash forward idea in the early days of Arrow, it was set in the core mythology of the series years ago. "It was when we realized this show might go on beyond five seasons and I know that Marc [Guggenheim] had always said the flashbacks were five years," she adds. "What do we do after five seasons? It just made sense to go forward into the future instead of continuing flashbacks. We're kind of breaking two shows. We have a whole separate mythology for the flash forwards and we have a lot of new characters and that's why it feels so fresh; we're doing two shows in one."
The flash forwards will not be in every episode, but they will be in most. "When we had flashbacks in every episode, sometimes it felt like a little too much," Schwartz says. "I wanted to make sure that we were telling the story we needed to tell instead of being forced to tell them in every episode. With the flash forwards, we're able to see the consequences of what our team has done in the present day story. In the future storyline you're going to be able to see were vigilantes effective? How did that affect Star City in the future? How did it affect The Glades? How did it affect all the characters we love? Are people going to be the same or different? It opens up the world a lot."
And for those keeping track, while Lian Yu was blown up by Adrian Chase (Josh Segarra) in the season five finale, it wasn't completely destroyed. "We definitely talked about that," Schwartz says with a laugh. "He blew up the island but he didn't decimate it. We figured that 20 years in the future, life finds its way back on the island so that’s why we had some greenery having grown over the graves. And he just didn't burn Robert Queen's grave."
Key changes: Aside from the game-changing addition of flash forwards, season seven is a new chapter for Arrow as Oliver Queen is now behind bars. Don't expect to see him freed from prison anytime soon as the show doubles down on the creative choices made in the season six finale when he outed himself as the Green Arrow and chose to turn himself in to the FBI.
"I love the prison story and it's what separates it from the previous seasons," Schwartz says. "Oliver is away from his team, away from his wife and child and he's with some old characters and some new characters. This allows us to tell a different kind of narrative. He's not the Green Arrow anymore. I always wanted it to be a longer arc – I loved Prison Break and I thought it was such a great opportunity to see how our hero reacts to being in prison. There is so much story to be told there so it's a longer arc and the studio and network were extremely supportive. It's one of the strongest stories we have, at least in the first half of the season."
Larger theme: The overall theme this season is redemption, and that doesn't just apply to Oliver serving time for crimes he committed as the Green Arrow.
"It's focused on Oliver but it will hit on all the characters, just in the choices they've made this season by becoming a hero in a different way," Schwartz says. "It affects Laurel/Black Siren [Katie Cassidy], she has a large way to go to redeem herself from last season. It will even affect some of our characters in the future story as well."
New villain: For the first time in history, Arrow is keeping the same villain around for a second season as Diaz aka the Dragon (Kirk Acevedo) will continue to hunt the separated Team Arrow out of revenge for destroying his empire last season.
"It is the first time we've done this and it's the first time we've had a big bad going after our team while Oliver is in prison," Schwartz says. "Oliver is very much isolated on the inside and he'll struggle with trying to go after Diaz while he's stuck in prison so he'll have to get creative. Our team on the outside isn't really a team anymore either so having them trying to figure out their new normal and take down Diaz is also very challenging so they'll have to do things in a different way than they've done before."
And with the addition of the Longbow Hunters, taking down Diaz will prove to be a lot harder than they all think. "Diaz will be their leader, so he'll have this fierce group of assassins that are on his side for him to fight the team with," Schwartz adds.
New main character: Colton Haynes returned to Arrow as a series regular once more this season, but in a surprise twist, he's playing an older version of his original character in the flash forwards after riding off into the sunset with Thea (Willa Holland) last season in what was supposed to be his happily-ever-after sendoff.
"You'll see a lot more in episode 2 that he's much darker," Schwartz says of the 20 years older, Lian Yu resident Roy. "He's definitely been burned. There will be a lot of mysteries to reveal throughout the season about what happened to him in that time span. We don't like the happily-ever-afters, apparently."
And now that the adult version of William has found Roy on Lian Yu, expect to learn more about why he's sought out his father's first protege and what's happened to him over the past 20 years as he and Roy develop a mentor/mentee relationship. "Last year we spent a lot of time with Oliver as a father, and those stories were extremely dynamic," Schwartz says. "Trying to figure out what it's like for a child to have a father who is Oliver Queen has been endless with the amount of stories we can come up with. How that affects a small child with all the trauma he's been through, it's interesting to see how William turns out when he's an adult."
The future: As Schwartz takes over the reins of the series from former showrunners Guggenheim and Wendy Mericle, she's bringing six years of experience as an Arrow writer with her to shape the show as it begins its next chapter.
"What I brought [to this season with my promotion] is extremely collaborative," Schwartz says. "I've known a lot of these people for a long time. I'm just focusing on season seven right now but with the flash forwards, it feels like now the stories are endless. There's a lot of material."
Fun fact: While Shadowhunters star Katherine McNamara was previously reported as a new cast member for this season of Arrow, not much is known about her role, even after the season seven premiere. Schwartz wants to keep most of the details about Maya, a skilled street fighter in Star City, secret but promises that the character will debut soon. "We'll see her in the first half of the season," she reveals. "There are still many surprises to come."

A Powerful Playlist
1. Respect - Aretha Franklin (Song details)

For me, the song "Respect" has always been one of the first songs that comes to mind when I think of Women's empowerment. Even though I have heard the song before, listening to this song takes me back to my marching band days. Researching this song promoted motived me to learn the lyrics.
"A little respect oh yeah (just a little bit)
A little respect (just a little bit)
I get tired (just a little bit) Keep on tryin' (just a little bit)
You're runnin' out of fools (just a little bit)
And I ain't lyin' (just a little bit)"
While the song wasn't originally written by Aretha, she truly made it her own by adding a few details. It is worth noting that Aretha was the first one to add the iconic “R-E-S-P-E-C-T" hook line. Thus she, and her creative team helped to make this a woman's empowerment anthem.
Aside from the amazing lyrics, there is just something so cool about the tempo and arrangement of this song. The intro is so upbeat and fun I cannot help but start to dance.
2. “Miss Independent” – Kelly Clarkson

The song “Miss Independent” is another that comes to mind when I personally think about the woman’s empowerment movement. Kelly Clarkson combines creative vocals and thoughtful lyrics to really drive the point home. It is also interesting to note that other artists had turned this song down before it arrived to Clarkson. It would turn out to be her first attempt at writing a song with a group and, after her American Idol Win, it really made her as a star. The lyrics:
“So, by changing her
Misconceptions, she went in a new direction
And found inside she felt a connection”
really drive home the meaning. In short, a catching driving pop tempo and creative lyrics are the reason this song made my list.
3. “Independent Women (Part 1),” – Destiny’s Child

Desitny's child has many inspiring songs about empowerment. I could list, at least five songs that I could have used for my play list! Nonetheless, “Independent Women” is my favorite of their catalog and that is why I picked it for my list. The overall song has creative lyrics and a fun catchy beat. I can still really dance along to this song as a teen. Even as an adult, I still find the words fun and inspiring. This song drives home the idea that woman can provide for themselves. Fun fact, this song spent 11 weeks (about 2 and a half months) at number one on the Hot 100, becoming the group’s longest running number one.
“Try to control me, boy, you get dismissed Pay my own car note and I pay my own bills Always fifty-fifty in relationships”
The above lyrics drive home two important points, equality in the woman’s movement while still maintaining some independence”

Salt’ Peppa are another amazing female trio. They also have a catalog filled with impowering songs. While it was hard to pick just one, “None of Your Business” will always be one of my favorites. I remember when this song first came out. Yet the lyrics have a different feel now that I am an adult. “None of Your Business,” creative lyrics drive home a this fits right in with the overall theme for woman’s empowerment. This mix of rap and rock make this one of my favorites, because it crosses genres with its creation.
“So the moral of this story is: Who are you to judge?
There's only one true judge, and that's God
So chill, and let my Father do His job”
These words have still stuck with me to this day.
5. “Hard Out Here,” -- Lilly Allen

Lilly Allen has a catalog of fun quirky yet meaningful songs. I cannot recall exactly where I was when I first heard about this amazing artist... but I remember being instantly hooked. Whenever I am having a rough day, her songs were always one of my go-too. So, needless to say, “Hard Out here” will always be one of my favorite songs by Lilly. This song is a mix of creative lyrics with the artists own brand of fun and quirky sarcasm. Thes lyrics are one of the main reasons why I picked this song for my list:7. “We Run This,” Missy Elliott

Miss Elliot is another amazing female artist who has a lot of songs that fall under the theme over Woman’s empowerment. I picked the song “We Run This” because I thought it would best fit the overall flow of my playlist. This song mixes Electronic with hip hop genre of music. It has an upbeat tempo, making it one of those great songs with a fun “vibe.” Even though this song has some explicit lyrics, like the Liliya Allen song listed above, it also makes a point with those lyrics:
“You don't want beef, don't take it that far with a superstar I got my foot on the clutch, see me bounce my butt Misdemeanor too much and I don't give a fuck”
The lyrics shout “I am large and in charge,” and would make a good empowerment anthem.
“There's a glass ceiling to break, uh-huh There's money to make And now it's time to speed it up 'Cause I can't move at this pace"
The goal to break the glass ceiling is an ongoing one for the woman’s empowerment movement. It is nice that this song gives a slight nod to that ongoing struggle. Not to mention, the music video takes a few sharp jabs at entertainment industry. The overall tempo and music arrangement also makes this song memorable.
6. “Bitch” Meredith Brooks

This song, by name will always come to mind when I think of Woman’s empowerment. Sure, the title might throw some people who are a little more sensitive. In my option its song’s main title is not used in a derogatory fashion. In my option, it feels empowering to call out the main part of the hook. I remember when it first came out... the lyrics struct me as very empowering, even at an early age. It was just fun to call out the tittle (much to the chagrin of my mother). "Bitch" starts off with a slow tempo and seems a bit unassuming, "innocent and sweet". Until the song changes up as the tempo song. Each time I hear this song I cannot help but song. The lyrics are fun yet gives you a something to think about:
“When you hurt, when you suffer I'm your angel undercover I've been numb, I'm revived Can't say I am not alive You know I wouldn't want it any other way”
8. “I'm Every Woman” Whitney Huston

Whitney Huston will always be one of those amazing female artists. I can still recall when I first heard this song on the radio. As a young girl, it made me feel uplifted, as if I could grow up to be anything. That, hopefully, when I became a woman, that I would be able to go on to do remarkable things. Now, that I am older, I can full appreciate the importance of this song. As with some of the pervious songs, "I am Every Woman" has a good pace tempo. It is one of those fun, yet empowering songs, that gets people up and dancing. Hopefully, this powerful message will continue to be passed down to younger generations, and the singer's legacy will never be forgotten.

While there are many modern songs for woman’s empowerment, I wanted to add this older tune to provide a better mix.  “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves,” is one of those classic songs that drives the point. These lyrics drive home the theme:
“There was a time When they used to say That behind every great man There had to be a great woman But in these times of change You know that it is no longer true So [,] we're coming out of the kitchen”
Like the other songs in my list, this one has a very upbeat tempo to match the lyrics. It is a very 80's song, but that is not a terrible thing! The arrangement is creative with that fun driving beat that brings out the amazing vocals of Eurythmics and Franklin. The music video also pokes fun of some of those old outdated ideas that once kept women back. Going back to the main theme, this song is about woman moving on to stand proud.

I wanted to wrap this playlist with something a little different, but it keeps with the overall pop theme. I discovered this artist by happy accident while researching another topic. Shiina Ringo is an amazing vocal who has written most of her own songs. The fast tempo pairs nicely with Ringo’s voice. “Karisome Otome” is a song with an amazing mix of gernes. The tune starts of soft and sweet, much like Meredith Brooks’s “Bitch.” While the theme of her songs varies, I picked this one because it pokes a little fun at the role women take when it comes to flirting and such. Here is the English translation of the entire song:
I'm just like the women Who stand next to you and stare Sweet intoxication But I'm leaving this affair You lit up my daydreams Like so many other guys Don't you look so lonely There's no sorrow in goodbye

In my option the song pokes some light hearted fun at the stereotype that women need men in a long-term sense. There are serval versions of this song, even one in English. Yet, like many of the songs, I wanted to mix things up by adding an artist that might be new to some of my readers.
