A confession on my part, as a Native who is severely disconnected from the culture, despite being “enough” through BQ to enroll if things in my family weren’t so fucked: I sometimes wish I didn’t look so white, because that part of my family isn’t very great. They’re a majority conservative, racist people. I know this is something I just have to work through, but tbh. If I could ever get more validation of my culture and people, I want it. And I feel guilty for the wishes that come from that.
Same anon who said they kinda wish they didn’t look so white. I think it’s because so often I feel like I can’t be grappling with generational trauma and things while I look how I do. It feels unjustified, and like maybe if I were darker I would feel justified in the fact that my family has some seriously unresolved generational trauma. Because I’d look like the people in my family who endured it. Idk. I guess I have a lot of shame, and idk how to field it and feel like I am Native enough.
hi!
firstly, you are not how you look. you are defined far more by what you do, how you practise your pride in your culture, how you defy your family’s racism, how you advocate for your community, how do you learn your cultural history and keep it alive?
Secondly, the idea that because you look white you don’t have any kind of trauma associated with being native and therefore cannot own to it is literally coloniser assimilation mentality and the type of propaganda white folks tell natives who pass to stop us claiming our heritage so they can genocide us - simply, don’t let the colonisers win.
thirdly, and I cannot say this enough, there is no such thing as “not native enough” and let me tell you, people who aren’t native don’t carry this weight of questions and trauma. you are native, your experience is native. there is no one way to be native.
fourthly, and this might sound harsh, but you need to hear it: this self-flagellating passing-guilt that you’re fixating on is unhelpful to you and, most importantly, your native community. fixating on how you look white and hating yourself for it is not only clearly straining your mental health. but it also prevents you from using your privilege to help your community. this indulgent guilt so many white-passing ppl come up against, i’ve learned all it does is make us miserable and actually prevent us from becoming part of our communities in whole and helpful ways.
the only way you’re going to work through the shame is shifting the focus from how you look to what you do and taking action. maybe this means sharing your experience with other natives, contacting your native family, researching more into your native culture, it could even mean going to therapy for your trauma so you break the cycle of passing it down. regardless of what you decide to do, I promise you this, wallowing in your white appearance and punishing yourself for it by isolating yourself from your heritage is an act of self-harm that ONLY benefits the colonisers,
good luck, and I hope it gets easier. x

Two things
I finished the episode! And as always, have thoughts on both Essek As Possible Traitor and the M9′s approach to the BQ....
...And let’s start with the second thing first. I understand but disagree with the decision (was it intentional?) to withold the information about the Beacon offered to the Dynasty NOT being the one stolen from them, but a third, additional Beacon unearthed at Pride’s Call. This being that, while the M9 were able to use language about a “returning” of Beacons to successfully urge the BQ into the first stage of peace negotiations, I sincerely doubt there won’t be fallout when the BQ hears the Empire’s very official line of “we never stole anything, but you can have this Beacon if it’s so important to you I guess.” She’s invested in the Beacon not just as a cultural artifact, but as something that belonged to them, and which literally contains the souls of her people. She also wants “amends” to be made to her in the way Caleb Widogast has offered, which means she wants either the Empire to admit to responsibility or to work with her in proving that a third party is responsible for all that has happened, and bringing that third party to justice.
I believe that if the M9 had been more directly forthright about the status of the Beacon being offered (vague statements about “the Assembly trying to bend the situation for their own ends” is profoundly unhelpful without the evidence leading to these suspicions) they would have increased their standing and trustworthiness to the BQ and also likely been given additional official leeway to investigate the continued deception being perpetuated by agents within the Empire. Convincing her to agree to peace talks while having this information and being on her guard, while using the situation for their ends--that’s helpful, while keeping her in the dark due to her uncompromising anger over the war is good in the moment but could backfire catastrophically
Which brings us to Essek,
a suspected traitor. He also deliberately witheld information from the BQ during the meeting--his motivation clearly being to as cleanly as possible place all blame on the Taskhand for the stolen Beacons and end the investigation (the how and justice of the matter not being as important to him). As long as the investigation remains open, suspicion is also cast on him, and we’ve seen the wear of that on him in previous sessions. But he certainly didn’t hinder the M9 voicing their messy suspicions of the Cult of Tharizdun, either. I hypothesize that while Essek’s status as a traitor is a possibility, that Beau is incorrect in her overall assumption of the cult of Tharizdun as a third party being responsible for the escalation of the conflict--rather, I think that the Assembly at least and Essek possibly is using the activities of the cult of Tharizdun for their own ends--manipulating their zealots both to control the direction of the war and as a convenient scapegoat to their own activities.
As Essek has admitted, his standing is reliant in part on the M9′s activities in Xhorhas. Den Thelyss is the one who immediately and tellingly took a gamble on the M9 in the immediate aftermath of their heroics with the dodecahedron and offered them sanctuary/a home within the city. Essek has also actively encouraged the hunt for Obann and the Angel of Irons cult, been a valuable assist in the chase, and in vouching for the M9 has gained influence as they have accrued success. The Shadowhand would be keenly aware that not only is he in the perfect position to frame another person for betrayal in the BQ’s court (he’s a master of intelligence and interrogation and therefore holds most all the cards in these matters) but that everyone in the BQ court would know that as well and therefore suspect his findings. Bringing in the vocally neutral M9 to lend credibility to his case and muddy the waters further by accusing the cult of Tharizdun would accomplish his goals very well--because of their trustworthiness in the court, they are perhaps the only ones capable of truly deflecting suspicion off himself. And it’s relatively simple to keep off their bad books, isn’t it--just be friends, just give them help when they ask for it (homes and spells and transportation, oh my). Express sympathy for their goals!
Of course, Essek desperately manipulating an investigation to ensure his continued survival doesn’t automatically mark him a traitor--innocent or guilty, his life was at risk and he would gain from ending things quickly and cleanly. And him using the M9 to leverage political power when he himself is a youngster and a newcomer to the Dens without much clout extending beyond his status as a prodigy--that doesn’t point to guilt either. It’s just that he would certainly not be hurt by any of this, were he a traitor.
As for the Cult--I think it more likely they are being used as tools than it being the other way around. We already know that the locations the Anchors were dropped in were targeted to have a discernible impact on the war (like the one in the mountains being made to cripple the mines and therefore the Dynasty’s ability to create weapons). We know from Jester’s first scry that Vence was not an orchestrator but rather an underling in his own cult’s hierarchy taking orders from others, and we know Obann was likely acting in ignorance of the true nature of his god (unlike Vence) and, if that is the case, would be be even lower on the totem pole when it comes to having an idea of the bigger picture at play.
That the Anchors were planted within the Empire does not at all forestall the possibility of the Assembly being responsible--the motivation most obviously presenting itself being to take advantage of a continued war to eventually wrest political control away from King Dwendal and seizing it themselves, thus ending the “cooperation” between the two factions in running Empire affairs and settling things decidedly in their own favor. The Cultists directly involved in these affairs were direct underlings of important members of the Assembly--meaning it’s easy enough to dispose of them when their activities become inconvenient, and also easy to disown them and claim ignorance when they are discovered. “Oh dear, both of us have been manipulated!” they cry to King Dwendal and the Bright Queen, making a gift of these agents while remaining in the clear themselves.
The difference being that Vence is a confirmed member of the cult who was probably given all the tools by his superiors he needed to escape unscathed, while the Taskhand rather had a clumsy bit of mind alteration performed on him which would have aroused suspicion, had the M9 not been around to point that suspicion back at the Cult Of Tharizdun.
What I want to know is more about Dynasty history and politics. What would give someone like Essek, or indeed anyone else in the court the incentive to cooperate with the Assembly, which we have reason to think is being done outside of cult activities? What Dens or people have beef with the BQ, and are willing to use Tharizdun and fanatics to hurt her?

Our Love is God pt 2
Okay this is part two of Our Love is God, my Heathers and Stranger Things crossover. I hope you all enjoy it. Feedback is welcome and encouraged :)
______________________________________________________________
Steve doesn’t find out about the incident until after school. The Heaths are all over his house, which weirdly has become the gangs new stomping ground even though Heath’s house is bigger, playing a quick game of croquet before the night’s party. “Did you hear?” Heath Chandler asks after taking his turn. “Did you hear what that maniac Billy Hargrove did?”
No, Steve hadn’t heard, but it isn’t unusual for him to be out of the rumor loop. Snooping has always been Heath’s favorite past time, not his, so it makes sense that Heath would hear about whatever happened with Billy before the rest of them. Heath’s always had a terrible habit of sticking that rounded nose of his into other people’s business. If something really did go down, Heath for sure would be the first to catch wind of it. Not much happens in this shitty little town that the world’s youngest sleuth didn’t know about.
It was all one great big game to Heath, knowing the business of others. In fact, he prided himself on his collection of dirt. Having all this forbidden knowledge made him feel superior to the people around him. And, to be fair, if he knew everyone’s secrets, and no one knew his, he did hold a certain advantage over the other people in town. He could use his acquired information to ruin the reputations of his peers, or, worse, blackmail them.
“Well,” Heath says, “did you guys hear what Billy did?”
There it is again: that name, that five letter word. The mere mention of the kid’s name makes Steve’s heart skip a beat. He can’t quite put his finger on why this handsome stranger is having this effect on him, but there’s no denying that Billy Hargrove has intrigued him. In an earnest attempt not to sound too interested because, hey, why the hell should he be interested anyway, the kid’s a total stranger, he replies, “No I didn’t hear. What did he do?”
“Oh,” Heath begins, taking his dear old time to explain. The art of anticipation is just as important to Heath as his overly priced hair gel. “It’s awful really. Apparently just after we left the caf, Billy pulled a gun on Tommy and Ram.”
Steve waits for more details, but Heath offers none. “Shit,” Steve swears unable to express all the thoughts racing through his mind any other way. Shit. A gun? Billy pulled a gun on those numbskulls? “There has to be more to the story than this,” he says. “Why would he just pull a gun on them unprovoked?” Heath has to know more than this; he always does. He’s just taking his sweet old time to divulge the juicy details.
Heath shrugs, “Rumor has it Tommy accused him of being queer or something along those lines. Guess the bastard didn’t like that very much.”
“Yikes,” Steve says, still unable to fathom his thoughts into words. “Do you think they’ll expel him?” Steve cringes the moment those six words leave his mouth. Do you think they’ll expel him? Fuck, if the dude really shot Tommy and Ram he deserves a worse fate than that. If Billy really did shoot them, he belongs in prison.
“God, they won’t expel him,” Heath M says. “They’ll just suspend him for a week or something.”
“He used a real gun!” Heath counters. “They should through his ass in jail.”
Oh, Steve realizes suddenly why they even begun talking about Billy the teenage delinquent in the first place: Heath’s jealous of the boy. It’s not hard to see why Heath would feel threatened by the new player. Billy’s confident, easy on the eyes, and, apparently, handy with a pistol. Everything about the kid jeopardizes Heath’s title of king of the school. The more interested people become in Billy, the less interested they’ll be in Heath. Heath can’t have that; he needs to be kingpin.
“No way,” Heath protests, unable to deduct why Heath is so vehement about locking Billy up. “He used blanks. All Billy really did was ruin two pairs of pants. Maybe not even that. Can you bleach out urine stains?”
Steve is able to bite back his chuckle. Heath, on the other hand, is not so lucky. Heath’s face scrunches into a scowl. “You seem pretty amused,” he spits Heath’s way, taking the opportunity to take his next turn even though Steve hasn’t touched his ball once yet. Heath knocks his red ball directly into Heath’s green one, plotting his revenge.
Heath sighs, coming to the conclusion that he has no one other than himself to blame for this, “So what are you going to do Heath? Take the two shots or send me out?” The question doesn’t even need asking. Heath Chandler show mercy? It’s less likely than you think.
Heath stalks over to where Heath stands, “Did you have a brain tumor for breakfast? First, you ask if you can be red, knowing that I’m always red. Now this?” Heath shakes his head side to side. He moves his red ball next to Heath’s green one and lines up the put. In one swift motion he sends Heath’s ball sailing across the yard, landing on the other side of Steve’s covered pool.
“Oh, shit,” Heath swears, looking sadly at his ball.
“It’s your turn, Heath,” Heath says. Heath trudges over to his ball and eyes the wicket he needs to get his ball through. He lines his mallet up with the ball, taking a few small practice swings.
“No way, no day,” Heath laughs. Steve is about to tell Heath to give it up when Heath smacks the ball, sending it soaring into a tree, which it bounces off of. The ball lands in front of the wicket and rolls neatly under it.
“Holy shit,” Steve exclaims at the exact same moment Heath offers up, “God, that was incredible.” Even Heath himself lets out a tiny wooh, surprised by his own luck. He couldn’t make that shot again if he tried.
Heath, meanwhile, is clenching and unclenching his fists, staring pointedly at Heath. Heath senses Heath’s augmenting anger, so he quickly changes the subject before it manifests into something ugly. “So, tonight’s the night. Are you two excited?”
Heath turns to look at Heath, “I’m giving Steve his shot, his first Remington party. You blow it tonight, boy, and its keggers with kids all next year.” The latter statement was directed solely at Steve. It’s a warning, and a grave one at that. Blowing tonight’s party would mean more than keggers with kids; it meant total social ridicule. Steve didn’t want that.
Instead of giving Heath a verbal answer, Steve taps his blue ball across the lawn. Heath smirks at Steve, mistaking his silence for submission. Heath M takes his turn, followed by Heath D, then Heath is back up. For the second time that day he hits Heath’s ball.
“Why?” Heath asks, genuinely curious why Heath seems to need to torment him.
       Heath only shrugs, “Why not.”
Just as Steve is about to take his next turn, his mother appears at the back door. She’s clad in a formfitting grey dress, her fingers dripping with jewelry, despite the fact that she hasn’t left the house all day. Admittedly, Steve’s mom taking a lazy day is a rarity, but can a lazy day really be declared a lazy day if one sees fit to get dressed? Lazy days are about pajamas and tv; they’re about binge eating and hot shower. No one in their right mind would spend a day home from work fully clothed. That’s Steve’s mother for you: immaculate seven days a week, all twenty-four hours of the day. “Heath, you’re mother’s here,” she calls from the doorway, not bothering to venture outside.
“Come on whoever wants a ride,” Heath says, dropping his mallet. They all need rides save Steve who lives here, so the other Heaths quickly drop their mallets and follow Heath to his mother’s car.
Steve gathers up the discarded mallets and balls, tucking them away inside his shed. Back inside the house, his mother is setting food on the table. “Are you hungry, Stevie?” she asks him as he enters.
“Aw, gee, mom, the pate looks great, but I got to motor if I want to be ready for that party tonight,” he tells her. She looks mildly disappointed at his rejection, but allows him to wordlessly slink away into his room anyway.
Steve feels bad ditching his mother for a party. She doesn’t take off work very often, so he should want to spend time with her when she does. It’s just, all of her mothering and attempts at affection feel forced. Sometimes Steve wonders why his parents even bothered having a kid in the first place. They’re never around, never were, even when he was younger. He was raised by nannies in his younger years, though he eventually graduated to being his own caretaker. He doesn’t hate his mom or dad; he just doesn’t really love them either.
Steve takes a quick shower to wash the stink of the day away before dressing. A quick glance at his clock tell him that he’s only got about ten minutes to style his hair. It’s already five fifty, and Heath said he’d be there at six. Heath is rarely late to a party, and Steve knows better than to keep him waiting. Heath is as impatient as he is cruel.
Just as Steve suspected, Heath picks him up at exactly six o’clock that night. He honks the horn loudly to alert Steve to his presence, not even bothering to get out of the car. Steve walks out of the house without so much as a goodbye to his mother, who’s already retired to her study with a glass of wine. Steve’s wearing a preapproved outfit of a blue turtleneck sweater and skinny jeans. Heath is wearing a red polo shirt, accompanied by a black blazer.
They make a pit stop at the local Snappy Snack Shack—an open for business twenty four hours a day convenience store marked by a big bright neon sign—before going to the party. Heath sends Steve in for some corn nuts since amidst all the lunchtime polling he forgot to eat lunch. Steve calls to Heath from the doorway of the store, “BQ or plain?”
“BQ!” Heath shouts back as if it’s the most obvious answer in the world.
A bell pills as Steve enters, and the cashier smiles as nicely as someone who’s stuck working a minimum wage job can at him. Steve shoot the guy a smile back and finds his way over to the corn nuts, which are hanging from a rack in the back of the brightly lit store.
“You gunna pull a super chug with that?” someone asks from behind him.
Steve knows that voice; Steve hasn’t stopped thinking about that voice since he first heard it not even ten hours ago. Sure enough when he looks up, Billy Hargrove, the bane of Hawkins is standing a mere foot away from him, leaning against the candy counter, shooting him an oh so charming grin. He’s wearing a floor length black trench coat and a red button up shirt, though he hasn’t bothered to button more than one or two of the bottom must buttons. The kid is close enough for Steve to touch, and it takes everything in him not to reach out and run his fingers along Billy’s exposed chest.
“No,” Steve says, “but if you’re nice I’ll let you buy me a slushie.” Shit. Did he really just say that? Is he really flirting with self-proclaimed bad boy Billy Hargrove? “I see you know your convenience-speak pretty well,” he adds, desperate to take the conversation in a different direction.
Billy shrugs his shoulders, “Yeah, well, I’ve been moved around all my life. Dallas, Baton Rouge, Vegas, Derry, Sherwood, Ohio, Hawkins,” he takes a step closer as he lists off cities, closing the gap between them. Billy is so close Steve can smell his cheap cologne. “There’s always been a Snappy Snack Shack. Any town, any time, pop a ham and cheese in the microwave and feast on a turbo dog. Keeps me sane.”
“Really?” Steve asks taking a couple steps back. His heart is beating so loudly he’s worried if he doesn’t put some distance between himself and Billy the kid will hear exactly how nervous he is. “That thing you pulled in the caf today was pretty severe.”
Billy nods in agreement, “Yeah, well, the extreme always seems to make an impression.” Shit. Is Billy flirting with him now? “Did you say cherry or coke slushie?” Billy asks. Fuck. The dude is definitely flirting with him.
Steve’s brain is screaming at him to leave the store, to vacate the premises, to forget about the corn nuts. Steve Harrington does not flirt with boys, and boys certainly do not flirt with him. He opens his mouth to tell Billy he was just joking about the slushie, but what comes out instead is, “I didn’t. Cherry.”
Billy pays for Both Steve’s slushie and Heath’s BQ corn nuts. The two exit the store together, pausing by Billy’s motorcycle to say their goodbyes.
“Great bike,” Steve muses as Billy mounts it.
“Yeah,” Billy agrees, “just a humble perk from my dad’s construction company. You’ve seen the commercial right? ‘Bringing every state to a higher state.’”
“Wait a minute,” Steve says, “Billy Hargrove. . .  your pop’s Big Bud Hargrove construction?” It suddenly makes sense why Billy doesn’t stay in one place for very long. His dad has to go where there was work, and Billy had to go where his dad went. “It must be rough moving place to place.”
Billy pops an unlit cigarette into his mouth. “Well,” he starts, pausing to light the cigarette, “everybody’s life has got static.” He takes a long drag of his cigarette before asking, “Is your life perfect, pretty boy.”
Steve flushes at the pet name, hoping it was too dark out for Billy to notice. “Oh, yeah,” he says, his voice coming out much calmer than he feels. “I’m on my way to a party at Remington University.” Behind them, Heath honks his horn irritably. Steve rolls his eyes, “No, my life’s not perfect. I don’t really like my friends.”
Billy smiles and nods, “Yeah, I, uh, I don’t really like your friends either.”
“Well, it’s just like they’re people I work with, and our job is being popular and shit.”
Billy’s tongue darts out of his mouth, wetting his chapped lips, “Maybe it’s time to take a vacation.”

What should I do about this car insurance?
I have a car that is worth no more than $1500. I bought it off someone in my family and I should transfer ownership (as it is from a different state). At the moment they have selected me as a secondary drive for insurance, as I am a P plater it will cost a lot of money to put it under me. To reregister it and insure it under me would cost a lot. (including getting another roadworthy certificate). I took it in for a check and they said repairs would cost nearly $2,000 which is more than the car. Plus the insurance, totaling about $3500 in total when the car is only worth $1500 max. So this is the situation I need help with, the car runs great and I may have just gotten ripped off by the mechanics (I didn't bring it in, someone else did and they can seem like an easy person to rip off) - also we have a friend who is a retired mechanic and he said the car is in great shape and roadworthy should be no problem, so that conflicts with what these guys said.. Any tips? I have no clue what to do. What do you do when it costs more to put a car on the road than the car is worth?""

6 Reasons to Hang Out in Detroit (Yes, Detroit)
Even diehard Detroiters admit the Motor City’s golden age ran out of gas decades ago, leaving a deeply troubled city that’s become a synecdoche for the decline of American manufacturing. But beyond the easy jokes, non-Michiganders are finally starting to realize that there’s a lot to be celebrated in a city that’s never lost its sense of itself; that continually embodies the best American values, like determination and inclusion; and that is finally regaining its well-deserved sense of pride. Renaissance City, indeed.
The next time you’re booking a vacation, think of Detroit as more than the airport you have to fly through on the way to more obvious destinations. Consider sticking around a day or two to explore this unsung Midwestern metropolis, hitting a few of our favorite spots while you’re there. Here’s why this bustling city is worth a second look.
1. Get Your Fix of Urban Art, Food and Fun in The Belt
So-called hipster neighborhoods — and, really, isn’t that phrase just a way of denoting urban gentrification with an emphasis on local culture rather than McMansions? — are popping up around Detroit like mushrooms, from Jack White spearheading the transformation of the Cass Corridor with his Third Man Records, to the Victorian homes and trendy bars and restaurants of Corktown, and even to the socially and environmentally conscious farmers bringing life back to the abandoned lots of the East Side. But The Belt stands out for turning that most vilified of city features, the dark and creepy alley, into a brightly colored public art space. Artists both local, like Tiff Massey, and international, like Shepard Fairey (of Obama “Hope” poster fame) have created works for The Belt, and a stroll through the downtown walkway is an absolute must. The Belt has also attracted galleries, bars, restaurants and even a bowling alley to the block, meaning that after your tour of thought-provoking street art, you can take a load off with a martini and a frame or two.

2. Tap Your Toes at the Motown Museum
When the history of sound is written a million years from now, our historian descendants will note that the high point of their annals began on an unassuming boulevard in the LaSalle Gardens neighborhood in 1959, the brainchild of Berry Gordy Jr., a grocer’s son turned songwriter turned record producer and canny entrepreneur. Hitsville, U.S.A., may have stopped being a working recording studio in 1972, but Gordy’s sister Esther Gordy Edwards converted the house and its neighbor into The Motown Museum in 1985 — it’s presently due to undergo a $50 million renovation that will turn the entire block into a 50,000-square-foot tourist destination.
It’s almost easier to name major American artists of the ’60s and ’70s who weren’t part of the Motown family than to try to list them all: Diana Ross and the Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5, the Temptations, Martha and the Vandellas, Rick James, the Four Tops, Lionel Richie, the Commodores — and the list goes on and on. You’ll hear about all of them on the hour-long guided group tour ($15 per person) that takes you back through time to tell how the grandson of a slave helped change the face of music — and incidentally became the man behind the most successful African American-owned business in the US. You can also see the iconic white glove Michael Jackson wore for the 1983 performance of “Billie Jean” (where the King of Pop first introduced the world to the Moonwalk); carefully preserved rooms from the Gordy family’s apartment and the original Motown offices (including the vending machine where a pre-adult Stevie Wonder indulged his hankering for Baby Ruth bars); and Studio A, where some of the most beautiful music ever created was made immortal — you’ll probably end your tour joining your guide in singing “My Girl” in the same spot the Temptations recorded it.
Gordy didn’t get to where he is today without zealously protecting his intellectual-property rights, so photography inside the museum is strictly prohibited — the security guards manning the ubiquitous cameras will discreetly inform your guide if you so much as take too long checking your cell phone for the time. Gordy’s also clearly painted as the hero of what more cynical visitors will consider an interactive hagiography — you won’t hear mention, for example, of the musical or movie Dreamgirls, in which the thinly veiled Gordy character comes off as far from noble. Still, even hardened skeptics with an ounce of melody in their souls should make sure the Motown Museum is high on their Detroit must-do lists.

3. Indulge Your Inner Bookworm at King’s Books
This Corktown institution touts itself as the second-best used bookstore in the world, but with all due respect to the undeniable gorgeousness of Venice’s Libreria Acqua Alta, John K. King Used & Rare Books deserves the crown by almost any other measure. The onetime glove factory is home to over a million lovingly preserved tomes of every imaginable variety, spread out over several seemingly endless floors that you sometimes have all to yourself or sometimes have to share with other hushed-toned lovers of the printed page. The shelves are organized by the bookstore’s own uncrackable logic, complete with handwritten signs and arrows that lead seemingly nowhere, so it’s best to go in with the intention of getting lost. You may find poring over a complete set of pulp Westerns starring a blue-eyed half-native woman in increasingly revealing buckskin bodices, an early copy of Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking, James Ellroy’s trilogy on a fictional conspiracy behind the Kennedy assassination, or decades’ worth of the minutes of Midwestern city council meetings. There’s an ocean of books at King’s, and every time you come back in, you’ll discover something new.

4. Shop at the Historic Eastern Market
Detroit’s Eastern Market has a special place in the heart of its citizens, serving as the unofficial base of Lions tailgaters, hosting weekly farmers markets, the beloved Flower Day (always the Sunday after Mother’s Day) and serving as many area families’ primary grocery store for generations. Beyond the main sheds, its 43 acres — which make it the largest historic public-market district in the US — include a number of shops, restaurants, bars, galleries and studios, as well as non-retail businesses and offices. You could easily spend an entire day exploring, but be sure to get a kickass black-on-black Detroit vs. Everybody t-shirt by Tommey Walker; peruse all the floors of the historic DeVries & Co. 1887 specialty food shop; find out what a “coney” is, exactly, at Zeff’s Coney Island diner; satisfy your nut fix at the Germack Pistachio Company; then recharge next door at its sister business, the Germack Coffee Roasting Company.

5. Discover Detroit’s Burgeoning Food Scene
Conventional wisdom says New York, Chicago and northern California share the limelight when it comes haute cuisine, SoCal rules when it comes to tacos and fast food, the South hogs up all the quality barbecue and everyone else has to settle for more obscure regional specialities at best. So, what’s that leave Detroit with?
Well, pretty much everything, it turns out. The city’s chock-full of ambitious restaurateurs making their hometown over into a destination food city. If you’re already in the Eastern Market, stick around the neighborhood for one of the nation’s best pizzerias, Supino Pizzeria — if you’re ambitious, order the smoked-turkey pizza with smoked Gouda, cherry peppers and roasted garlic. Or, if you’re in a more classy-dinner mood, make reservations at Antietam, where you can have incredible duck-fat-fried almonds, bacon rillettes and classic cocktails in an Art Deco masterpiece of a space.
Still think barbecue has to come with a Southern accent to be worth a trip? Over in Corktown, Slow’s Bar BQ has upended Northern expectations with its nationally acclaimed Yardbird pulled-chicken sandwich and heavenly macaroni and cheese. Angelenos can try the lobsters-and-scallop tacos at El Asador Mexican Steakhouse in Springwells Village and finally shut up about how they can’t find any decent tacos more than hour from the Pacific. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Just know that when you come to Detroit, you ought to pack an extra stomach.

6. See How Dearborn’s Islamic Culture Lends Global Flavor to the Midwest
Detroit’s metropolitan area has one of the largest populations of Muslims in America, surpassed only, perhaps, by New York City. By itself, the adjacent suburb of Dearborn has America’s largest Lebanese population and one of its largest Arab-American communities, while Hamtramck recently became the first American city with a majority-Muslim city council — its Muslim population has boomed largely thanks to an influx of Yemeni and Bangladeshi immigrants. Detroit is a truly international city that reflects the heritage of its variegated citizenry.
There are countless ways to enjoy and celebrate the Islamic culture of the region, including tours of the Islamic galleries of the Detroit Institute of Arts or visits to Hamtramck’s coffee shops and festivals, but the tastiest is undoubtedly making the short trip to Dearborn’s Al Ameer, which in 2016 became the first restaurant in the state to win a James Beard Award. The Lebanese eatery is famous for its welcoming waiters and waitresses, paprika-infused sujuk sausage, and luscious shredded lamb, but no matter what you order, be sure to try out the divinely light hummus, get extra baskets of hot, fluffy pita, and opt for at least one of the fresh raw juices — if you’re treating yourself, share the Al Ameer Specialty, a tower of chunks of strawberry, apple, banana, cantaloupe and pineapple in mango juice, all topped with raisins, pistachios, honey and the sweetish, soft Lebanese cheese called ashta (kind of like ricotta). It may be on the juice menu, but you’ll probably want to save it for dessert.

Funny how certain media/shows/fandoms will make you like things you never thought you’d enjoy! Honestly I never thought I could ever read an a////bo or m///preg ever, but here I am.
Anyway I got hc about the main mx///xt couples having kids so 🤷🏻‍♀️
I’ll start this by saying that I believe that in the sv and tg worlds m///preg is possible but not in md (since it’s more realistic). And it doesn’t go here but QQ is the same.
– I don’t see Bing//qiu having kids right away. They’d want to live their honeymoon phase for a while (years), and tbh I don’t think LBH is ready to be a dad with all the daddy issues he has. Also I think he’s not yet mature enough to share his husband even with a kid of his own. At the same time, I don’t think SQQ would want to get pregnant because that’s new to him and he’s still coming to terms with the fact that it can happen. Yet, I think years in (and I mean many many years in), when they’re more sure about their relationship and more mature and understood better the world and how they fit into it, they’d agree on having a kid. I kinda see them having a daughter, only one and they’d name her either after BH’s mom or SQQ’s lil sister. I believe they’d be good parents tbh, and it’d be a surprise but I think LBH would be the better parent and oh, he would protect her so much. TLJ would love her btw! But LBH doesn’t like her spending time w him. I think SQQ would want her to cultivate in CQ mountain even tho nobody else wants bc she’s part demon, but YQY would let her. And she’d be in Bai Zhan peak, much to the horror of everybody.
– For Wang//xian, as I said I don’t think they can have kids of their own, but also I don’t see them adopting. I think it’s clear that WWX likes kids (and I’ll always love the moment where he says ‘we only need a little one’ recalling the scene w his parents and comparing it to his relationship with LWJ) but! I think they had enough and will rather now enjoy their life together on their own. Besides, they have tons of juniors that they watch over. I think they’d consider LSZ their kid, and that’s enough. They’ll see him growing up and turning into a fine man. They also watch over JL and the others, but more like in a uncles’ way. So I think they’re good. (I’m obsessed with them living their life like WWX imagined in a cottage and not at the sects)
– As for Hua//lian I do see them having kids, maybe not right away but not that many years in like with BQ. I think HC would be the one who wants them first, and once XL gets over his embarrassment about the pills that the ghosts offered, he’d accept bc he’s pretty whipped (tbh both of them are), and after the first one he’d want more. And I kinda see them having 2-3. Boy and girl (or two boys and girl) or all boys. I do, however, believe that they wouldn’t be the best parents out there. They’d try, but they have so many responsibilities that it may be difficult. Fortunately they have E//ming and Ruo///ye to babysit! And also YY and maybe BY and PS and the r//ain master?? Imagine even HX. They’d have tons of uncles (and adopted siblings) that would care for them. They’d even have cousins! (C/uocuo and G/uzi). Anyway depending on when this happens and if SQX is still alive, he’d be the cool but bad influence uncle. But other than him, most of the others are cool uncles that will watch over the kids while the parents are too infatuated with each other. And oh! When QR comes back he’d also be terrible influence on him! He’d tell him he’ll eat him and G/uzi would have to stop him, but I also headcanon that when he comes back, he’s less… gremlin and less intense. He’d still be a nuisance but somehow calmer and would rather spend his free days with his son, so I think he’d enjoy being a gremlin uncle. And it may remind him of his and XL’s infancy. HC doesn’t want him near his kids, but yk it sometimes just happens.
Now! The other canon ship and other non canon ones.
– Mo//shang would definitely have many many kids. I think it’s a common hc that they’d want kids bc of how neglected they were when they were kids. And also bc MBJ needs a heir. So they’d have many. And I think SQH would be scared at first –just like with SQQ, this didn’t exist in their world– and okay, maybe every time he’d get scared, but once he sees the kids, he’d be fine with it. Until next time. They’d have both girls and boys, but I’m not sure yet what i want the first one to be. Surprisingly they’d be the best parents from all this list. I think that LBH would see their growing family and that’s one of the things that pushes him into wanting kids btw. The half demon/half human kids would grow in both demon and human realm, but I don’t see them getting into CQ mountain as disciples. Or maaaybe one? Only one from all the bunch who’s more human-like than the others. Maybe into Qing Jing peak to annoy SQQ or in the one MQF is bc I also see them being healers. In any case, many of the kids inherited the love for bad writing from their dad, something that SQQ loathes. ((Or maybe twins get in, one is QJ and the other in that other one, but both kids pester their uncle SQQ daily with their writings!))
– Bing//jiu would definitely have many kids. Not exactly bc SJ wants, but LBH would want to have him pregnant all the time to keep him there and show everybody he’s his. SJ would say how disgusting it is, but secretly he’d love it too. He’d give LBH more kids than his other wives and he’d take pride of their kids being “superior.” Their fist kid would be a daughter (like with BQ). They’d be okayish parents, LBH would always be away ruling the world so he’s kinda absent, but he’d lavish them with gifts and nice food and other stuff. SJ would take care of them and of their education. He’d be stern but he’d also be quite spoiling –something BG doesn’t like–. We just have to keep SHL away from them btw.
– LMY/SHL (idk their ship name) wouldn’t have kids I think. I definitely don’t see SHL being a good mother at all, and honestly LMY? Keep your literature away from kids, it’s not appropriate. Buuuut maybe they (mostly SHL) end up roped into babysitting BQ’s and MS’s babies and oh she’d hate it and would ask LMY for help (maybe MS’s kids would get their love for writing from here too), and after a while, after they grow up, they may start thinking it wouldn’t be such a bad idea. Until the next mo//shang baby comes and they’re like: uhhh not again…. So yeah I think they wouldn’t.
– Quan//yin wouldn’t have them bc YY is too busy and he doesn’t want them and QYZ is basically still a kid.
– Beef//leaf…. Ah, realistically it’d be the easiest since the both of them change forms a lot, but I think they’d wait also. (They need to get over their traumas first). Since I firmly believe that SQX prefers their female form and HX their male form, SQX would carry the kid. I think they agree on having only one but they end up with twins, and that’s okay. HX would be the responsible father with SQX being more scatterbrained, yet he’d try hard. (After watching his nephews before he’d know what to do better!) (I’m ignoring canon a lot here, this is in a world where they are together and SQX is immortal again).
– Xue//Xiao and Xi//Yao are unfortunately </3 not possible anymore so I won’t say much, but if they weren’t dead Xue//Xiao wouldn’t have any bc they have A//Qing already and ngl I doubt they’d be good parents at all. Xi//Yao do deserve kids and I think they’d be nice parents, albeit too protective.
– I’m not super into this ship, but since I saw some art earlier (the first I ever see) I’ve been thinking about them. I think FX and Jian//Lan should be given a new opportunity and they should give C/uoCuo a sibling! An alive one. (If it makes sense bc the mother is a ghost herself). I think they could make it work.
And last, again it doesn’t go here but:
– Yan//Shen should not adopt more kids. They have 5 already and ngl SQ is not the best dad. He kept collecting kids and then abandoning them to save the world. Not cool. YWS seems a bit better but at the same time he left YSY when he was like 10 and then disappeared for 10 years, so yk first take care of the kids you already have and then you can think about having more.
