i can’t think abt this too long or i’ll go crazy but the way the last episode highlighted the ways in which shiv and kendall are so often a set/pair is sooo. like there’s so much to unpack there. they’re so obviously different while having very similar shortcomings and strengths. you Know shiv has always wanted to be The Eldest Son that kendall was when they were younger, but has always believed she would have done it better. and ken tells shiv himself “i’m the real you” when he’s the one on the outside. they share that need to be the hero to logan’s villain and that makes them both brave enough to confront him and totally delusional about their own shortcomings. they big up themselves as moral movers and shakers but theyre the ones who shamelessly lie to the group abt their motivations when it comes to the deal w stewy and sandi. and yet when it comes to fighting logan for as performative as they are it’s also totally authentic, deep, personal anger that keeps them from buying into logan’s spiel the way connor and roman do. selfishness as a strength and a weakness. dad’s favorite children have the nerve to be angry because they did believe deep down they were chosen ones.

i keep seeing takes on either side of this and i don’t disagree with any of them because the whole point is that We’ll Never Know and it really could go either way BUT! i do think it’s like. important that the way that kendall differs the MOST from logan is his relationship with his siblings and the love he has for them/needs from them. kendall thinks he’s only built to run waystar but really he’s built to be part of a trio!! he’s a love sponge, they’re all love sponges!!! the three of them are bound together in a way that logan and ewan never were bc logan is the big evil and the big love that built them! not to mention the fact that roman and shiv are not ewan. shiv will probably hold out longest because her pride and her rage and her exhaustion is what brought them to this point but. roman is blowing up kendall’s phone 48 hours later MAX. kendall is getting invites via roman to family events he wasn’t invited to and bringing squiggle beats to his nephew’s christening…. shiv is calling ken to leave five minute voicemails about how pathetic he is and how she beat him…

I need something good on my dash. Dad imaushi and dad Kenny thots 🥹 fuck it and throw in Tetta too🥹 or really just TR dads
Imaushi is the reluctant athletic dad who gets elected by the PTA to coach track. His sons are on the team obviously and he’s not normally a competitive guy but track meets see a different Wakasa— he’s talking to these 9/10 year olds like they’re adults. “If you don’t win this next race I’m taking your goddamn caprisun.” “What the fuck was that Sano!? You run like an 80 year old with rheumatoid arthritis.” “Oye! You’re embarrassing me!” (Said like an Italian father, to his son who is literally in first place.) He’s 100% in an adidas track suit hands in his pockets scowling at the other teams coaches.
Kisaki has the kind of genes that doctors giggle about. You have his daughter and she’s got the crease between her eyebrows straight out the womb. He’s whipped from day one and he 100% tries to reason that she- six months old- should have a say in whether or not you should buy a new house. AND ykw? He’s the kind of father who forgets he has a job sometimes because his daughter becomes essentially number one to him. Shuji calls him at 9am after four days of no show no call no text no email like “Will we be seeing you today sir or shall I tell your employees you’re dead?”😭
Now Ken is the hands on daddy’s girl/anything my princess wants/she can do no wrong father. He encourages madness as well and has tried to convince you on numerous occasions that your daughter should be allowed a bike (she’s six) and he should start teaching her to ride from young. Also I have said it multiple times but he’s wearing ribbons whenever she is. He’s twinning with hairstyles, they’re getting mani pedis.

I find it fascinating that some people think that Roman’s mountain top outburst with Matsson was a fucking business strategy, that it was actually a negotiation tactic. I’m sorry, but did we watch the same scene? Not only did Matsson fuck them over by giving an offer the board absolutely won’t refuse (which shits right on the genius master plan of Kendall taking over Waystar - yet again, for what?), he also pretty clearly blew his lid off. Is revealing all the ways they planned to fuck the deal supposed to be this amazing tactic? Absolutely not. He lost it, it was a culmination of all the grief, all the anxiety, and all the anger at Matsson for dragging them up there days after their father died, and he just fucking erupted. Comparing him to Logan in that moment only matches if you think about Logan fucking losing it and making a stupid decision because he lost his tempter (like his little tantrum after PGN went to shit). I feel like in their world, you’re either an emotional wall or you lose, that’s it. No cards on the table, because you can’t manipulate someone if not only they can clearly see through you, but you also just come out with unhinged monologue, revealing everything (which I’m happy that Roman did it, he needed that catharsis, but also - not a good business move overall). Lucas was not intimidated by Roman, he was amused, he threw more money at them to solidify the deal, because he saw an emotional value ATM holds for them. That’s what the picture from Shiv was about, that was his one big fuck you. In the end of the day, it is a big dick competition.
I also saw some interesting (if only questionable) opinions on Shiv - Matsson stuff. Like yeah, I think girlie was definitely winning this episode, especially when you had her brothers as a comparison, who just stood there with dicks in their hands, looking absolutely clueless half of the time. At this point what is going on between Shiv and Matsson could be considered a mutual symbiosis; they are kind of like two parasites feeding of each other, playing each other off but to the benefit of both of them. But this cannot be long-term, we all know how things go - the closer you get to the sun, the more painful the fall is going to be. Matsson getting Shiv on his side (with quite a lot of enthusiasm on Shiv’s side, she did try to play her own angle all along), is a very easy way of getting himself an insider to the company. It’s also very easy way to take care of Kendall and Roman problem. Shiv has a motivation to stab her brothers in the back, she can sense that she is not being included, and she can very clearly see that her brothers are actually incompetent and don’t have a plan. Which means that Matsson going with “you remind me of your dad” was an extremely good move on his side. It solidified it for Shiv, it literally lifted her of the ground. Because everyone with a pair of working eyes can see that Roy siblings cling to Logan like he’s a raft, and all they want to do is either make daddy proud or be like daddy. For Shiv it’s a compliment of a highest standard to be compared to Logan, because Logan was the big boss, because in the end of the day - Logan always won. They are still playing the same old game, and I’m worrying that it’s about to bring the same results it always brought, just from a different person.
Then again, obviously this show is very highly open to interpretations and I might possibly be giving a bit too much credit to Matsson (in the end of the day he might turn up to be a complete idiot, business-wise, although I doubt it), but that was my overall read on the last episode.
