hshdjdj hello anon... welcome to the pantheon of the same complaint nico has faced his whole life 😫😭 from 2013-2016, to all the way back in Williams he was called ranging from "doesn't have a sense of humour/too German" to "too stoic/wooden/PR focused" the George Russell before George Russell. let's break down your question

the 2016 media narrative was actually "Lewis Hamilton parties every week vs Nico Rosberg has given up all pleasures to life to eat oatmeal and train" and their press con pictures were Nico being 😶. couple that when he was put against the other German on the grid, the naturally charismatic and joking seb vet, nico absolutely came across as a stick up his ass.

now, obviously, as you have called me a nicologist I'm going to have a biased take. let's talk about media personalities -- everyone has them. even the most animated of blorbos, daniel playing up being funny, lewis with his peace and love, even fernando refusing to explain what el plan is everytime 😈 (this is a man who owns being a menace)

some people refuse to play into theirs as much, like max, and accordingly the media characterises him as blunt/straightforward/harsh. the media is nicer to you when you work with them, which is why Daniel is such a media darling and the face of DTS, despite not being a top 5 race contender.

nico has always been aware of how he's perceived. there's a will buxton article about it that's pretty fascinating. even before entering f1, he knew he'd be World Champion's Son and his media personality while he was a driver reflected that; diplomatic, uncontroversial, says the right and boring thing (and yes, even lying about it 🤭 my darling care has the receipts). my fav nico moments are when he'd break off it a bit — the iconic "if Lewis wants to change something then he can drive cleanly himself" agdjjd while jenson went O_O [obv media personality =/= how they actually are]

present day nico, as an f1 commentator, I'm very curious what your idea of polished media personality is. cause to me, that means someone who is milquetoast, wouldn't rock the boat, impersonal and says the 'right' thing. nico is the guy who said Ferrari's current strategy team is worse than an F2/F3 team live on air 😭 (as he should), the guy who asked lando point blank what the difference is between p3 and p4 (who didn't know 😭 bless his heart), who said yeah why should max go into a corner thinking lewis is gonna miss the apex

not a huge fan of the term overly therapized~ cause a lot of Nico insults is "this man needs to go to therapy" and when they find out he HAS they're like "this man has had Too Much therapy" like 😭😭😭 he cannae win...... coming back to your question. every f1 driver is doing a performance with their public persona, some are better some are worse. Nico is no longer in f1 as a driver and doesn't need to be careful and measured anymore, and To Me is one of the few fun personalities in f1 as a commentator. you can totally disagree cause it's a matter of personal preference.

Post retirement Nico, having a YouTube channel for Years and playing into the memes (his ig comments are a nightmare of the same equal machinery joke) is perhaps more aware than most how people see him. he also doesn't need to care as much, he can laugh at himself -- at his own expense. he even posted what is essentially a taking L's compilation

if his polished persona is coming across as a cringe girldad who is way too excited about electric cars then by god he's the greatest male manipulator out there

obv if you find him too curated/inauthentic that's your prerogative, but I I would ask; have you actually watched the guy or are you going off public consciousness/someone else's interpretation. i wish he was as conniving and calculating now as people gave him credit for, unfort this is a dude who geeks out over finding a charging station in Italy.

How did Adachi's Lust arcana become Hunger?

Gonna save you all a read by preemptively answering "idklol". Sure doesn't stop me from typing about it tho. 🤡

Adachi's transformed social link rank 8 arcana is Lust, card XI of Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot deck. Lust isn't actually written in English in the Japanese game or design works or guide. But we know it's Lust because Persona 3/4 use names from the Thoth tarot deck for their extra arcana beyond the initial 22, Adachi's is specifically named 欲望 (the Japanese translation for card XI in the Thoth tarot), it has the same numbering as Lust in the Thoth deck (XI), and the in-game tarot card art was certainly inspired by the Thoth tarot's Lust (Mother Harlot and the 7 headed beast).

The art of Adachi's Lust deviates from the Thoth version. It looks like Mother Harlot is about to be devoured by the 7 headed beast rather than being in control of it. Perhaps the change to the art is to reflect Adachi's character and where his Fool's Journey (or Fool's Errand?) ended. What I really mean by this is that the woman on the card thus represents Adachi which would then mean that Adachi is being woman coded even on his own tarot card. The "Adachi is woman coded" agenda continues. So glad Atlus has my back on this one.

The English game appears to have translated 欲望 as Hunger instead of using Lust from the pre-existing Thoth tarot names. This seems odd because in P3 and P4, both Aeon and Universe use the Thoth tarot's already existing names. And this is despite the Japanese term for the Aeon arcana (永劫) being something that could be translated one million billion ways too. Anything that's a synonym for eternal is fair game.

I think the connection to the Thoth deck was understood for Aeon, but the connection was not understood for Adachi. Guess it got lost as it was technically a ENG -> JP -> ENG translation, and it ended up as Hunger in Golden. This matters to me because I'm a fangirl... Of course I want my blorbo to have a horny sounding arcana. Duh.

Hmmm it's hard to settle on a single line, but I think it's a tie between this one, from Stygian Ringlet (my p3/p5 fic):

Ryoji remembered that awful night on the Moonlight Bridge, when his world fell apart. The night he remembered everything and instantly wished he hadn’t.

and this one, from a Runescape fic chapter I haven't posted yet:

“You know, I was planning on a nice evening playing cards with the rest of the crew,” Jaida said, still catching his breath. “But no, here I am, stuck in the temple in the middle of the night with you and the Scourge of Wushanko herself, with the only way out being blocked by an army of cultists, mercenaries, and giant crabs.”

💥 What is one canon thing that you wish you could change?

Ryuji's treatment in P5. I normally don't mind a character being comic relief, he does have some hilarious moments. The problem is that he had the potential to be a really good underdog-type character and have interesting character interactions with the others, but Atlus really did him dirty and squandered his character development by having the entire cast degrade him for the rest of the game. It worked for Yosuke in P4 because he tends to make those kinds of jabs at his friends and often brings it on himself, but it's a lot more one-sided with Ryuji. These people are supposed to be FRIENDS, guys. (I don't even need to say anything about the end of Shido's palace jfc)

(also Kawakami's social link and benefits are uncomfortable as hell so I never used them)

OH, THIS ONE. I DEFINITELY HAVE ONE FOR THIS QUESTION. My wildest headcanon:

Shinjiro's persona has a latent berserk ability somewhat similar to Akechi's, and absolutely no one realizes this, not even Shinjiro himself.

blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most) - HMMM... I'd say maybe Shinjiro or Minako?? I think abt them both p often!! Shinjiro super grew on me during my P3P playthrough. My particular characterization of Minako ended up making her like chaotic good n I love that for her.

She has a rlly good interaction w Yu after the drag show abt how she can help him pick out clothes or wear makeup when everyone else took it as weird or a joke and I also just love her social link n design!

okok p3p spoilers under the cut for both routes so read with caution BUT

i actually really disagree with people disliking the changes made for p3p to shinji and chidori’s fates and calling it “just fanservice” and not just in a “well i LIKE my blorbos alive” way. bc i think that love being the thing that keeps you moving forward is a very important and beautiful theme, and sure, it’s not the same as the original theme of p3, but i think it contrasts it in a really special way. in the face of death and tragedy and the neverending horrors we have love and that CAN make a difference. and i also disagree that there had to be a tangible change with shinji getting more game time bc he lived. i think the change was already tangible: love touched him, love made him question him resigning himself to his own death that he’s been succumbed to for so long, love gave him the strength to make it through. and i’d say the same of chidori but i don’t have the phd in jundori to elaborate lol. but these events were more than just fanservice to me, they changed the themes of certain events in beautiful ways and it’s why shinji’s social link is my favorite in the game. smiles

edit: i wanna clarify that this is not an issue i take with people preferring the original themes. if you play the game and like the tragedy-with-no-resolution version of events better then i totally get it. but the version of events in p3p have good themes too and go beyond "nobody dies fanservice" it's not about unrealistic miracles to erase any hints of tragedy as fanservice it's about love and hope playing as crucial of a role in the story as abandonment and tragedy!!
