Interpretations of the last Chenford scene in 6x07…?
Fair warning this is kind of depressing, but I’m usually wrong 😂:
It’s interesting that people saw that last scene as hopeful for Chenford… I actually saw it as Lucy getting closure and walking away (which at this point, I think she more than deserves and has every right to do. I would never want her to offer to wait for Tim, and I don’t think he would want that either).
She gave him one more chance to actually talk to her, and he shut her down. To me, her saying that she obviously wasn’t the right person to help him was her being extremely hurt over the fact that he chose to walk away instead of being willing or able to work through stuff WITH HER. He could have chosen to let her in and he didn’t. Obviously, she’d support therapy regardless of whether they were together or not.
I think it’s hopeful that Tim ended the episode willing to get help, but him not even being willing to have a conversation with her after breaking up with her feels like even more for Lucy to have to come to terms with in order to forgive him in the future.
I still think they’ll get there, but I didn’t actually see that conversation as a positive, progressive thing for them at this point.
What did y’all think?
Side note: It genuinely irks me that Tim thinks they can just go back to acting like nothing has changed when he won’t even give her the respect of a conversation.

chenford thoughts, thoughts, thoughts 👀 bc i'm losing it between the promo and the interview lmao. contains s6 spoilers
this may just have been me who didn't put it together but we're getting another chenford dance ♡♡♡♡ when they showed a chenford snippet in the teaser promo idk why i thought it was them just standing there sharing a moment???? but bbs are gonna be danciiiiiiiing~~~
what if tim's "yes,i love you" is a red herring?? because i swear that right after he says it, it looks like she's about to turn and look to her right (like get confirmation of it from someone monitoring the lie detector perhaps???) i keep thinking of how alexi said they're always looking to "walk a fine line with chenford" plus what eric said in the interview about a "nice little confessional of information" at the wedding ― it makes me think that the interrogation scene does not end super well (maybe awkward, maybe angsty, maybe both?) and the resolution happens at the wedding where they're dancing and that's their first (official - bc we know their track record with firsts) "i love you"
RICHARD T. JONES TELLING ERIC AND MELISSA THAT CHENFORD WAS GOING TO BE SOMETHING WHEN THEY FILMED THAT SCENE IN 2X01!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this one made me laugh bc it felt very full circle in a way? like how grey was the one who paired tim and lucy up (i wish they talk about this one day like elaborate why he paired up everyone with who he did bc it was so interesting to learn percy had requested tim be jackson's t.o. and that clearly didn't happen) and how the actor himself was also like "yeah, that's gonna happen"
i loved that they were asked if they could pinpoint when they noticed a shift between them (and their answers, i love hearing all these different perspectives). i i think part of the beauty of the slow burn is that there's no specific point? also the way this goes back to "she fell first, he fell harder" because tim at the hallway scene in 4x22 was hit with a world of emotions and realizations after that kiss
chenford having to face the reality of what lucy being uc means will no doubt be tough but i'm so happy they're finally going to address it!!!!! they've been in such a honeymoon phase and every time the topic is brought up they pretend it's fine but it's v much not
"we had a big scene this season with each other" akljdfalsdkfjasdlfa. i'm so excited ... and a little scared lol
we know we're learning more about tim's past this season which is SOOO exciting!!!!! but i love how eric in the interview also mentions how lucy will help bring out the best in him to help him navigate that. it reminds me so much of s1 with isabel and s4 with his dad and it'll be so nice to see this again but now as a couple
"lucy's going through a set of circumstances that we've never had the opportunity to see her go through" *cries* mel's entire answer to this question makes me so excited for lucy's development. idk why but i don't think whatever she's referring to here has to do with lucy being a detective? it seems so raw and personal and it makes me wonder if we're also learning more about lucy's past too (also wondering if they're bringing back her parents for a sec 👀)
TIM STILL NOT KNOWING ABOUT LUCY & NOLAN SDFGHLADF okay but can they please give us this comedic moment because it would be gold
the mention of the moonstone ring ♡
bonus: eric being so proud of that jail tiktok is so funny and wholesome

Thoughts on Tim Bradford
I was thinking about some of the things we've seen about Tim over the years and boy, is it now making so much more sense. I know a lot of this has already been meta'd and have been very eloquently said. But I just needed to put my two cents in.
Let's start with what Isabelle said to Tim in 1x12. She never felt like she measured up to Tim because he saw things so black and white. Tim had no idea that she felt that way and never thought that about her. And I've always thought she was wrong and was just projecting her own sense of failure onto him. But now I'm re-thinking that stance. We know from 4x19 and 4x20 that Tim was involved in black ops when he was in Afghanistan. His whole "Reaper" persona is obviously from that time in his service. We know from so many things that have come out in the last couple of decades that those involved in those types of operations often blurred the lines of legal and moral. I think that once he returned stateside that his rigid moral code was part of how he dealt with his PTSD. He probably didn't even realize he was going that far. Think about it, he went from black ops to being "Eagle-eye", the cop that took every order literally and got his shop tagged while standing there. Someone who was involved in off book missions wouldn't naturally be that rigid. I think it was easy to fall back into that type of mindset because of his childhood. I'm sure he needed to have every duck in a row when he was younger to make sure he never did anything to set his dad off. But having seen and done some bad things in the midst of war, Tim had to default back to this to be able to integrate back into society. He's often scorned psychology over the years. So I imagine he dealt with the trauma of war on his own by becoming that black and white guy that Isabelle was talking about. It was only after Lucy entered his life and started challenging him to be a better man that he started to see those shades of grey that life is all about. Remember in 5x17 when he showed mercy to the Make a Dream kid's dad? Season 1 Tim would never. He even admitted that Lucy was a good influence. Chances are he would have mellowed over time, but I believe he still would have had a certain amount of rigidity. That's why he told Isabelle in 5x20 that Lucy was different. She showed him that he had to readjust his mindset to be a better man.
Another thing that struck me is how he is basically treating Lucy like his boot or aide right now. If it was Angela that knew something was up I could totally see it. He could possibly blow up her life and it wouldn't be worth it. She is his best friend, but not his life partner. I could even see it if this had happened circa 5x6 or 5x7 when Chenford was trying to find their way back to friendship. But things have changed. I know that "fierce protector" Tim will do anything to protect the people he loves. I mean he offered to take the fall for falsifying those after action reports so that his friend with a family wouldn't be affected. But Lucy is not a friend, not an old Army buddy or his boot or aide. She is the most important person in his life. The reason he has begun to heal from all of the trauma he has had to face. He can't hide this from her. I am hoping that he realizes that next episode. Cause as juicy as this angst is, I'm ready for it to be over.
One last thing, as hard as it is to watch them fighting, it's what Chenford needs. I think this is going to bring so much to the surface that they need to face. Now Lucy is getting a taste of what being the person left at home feels like when their partner is UC. I think Lucy is going to take Tim to task for the whole going behind her back with Grey thing. And they both are going to have to deal with their communication issues. I feel like they are only going to come out of this stronger.

Grey gave me a rock-star review. Yeah, well, he should. You're amazing. I'm excited. I'm excited. Let's go to dinner tonight and celebrate. T-- Tonight, I can't. I'm sorry. I really, really want to, but I can't. I promised my friend that I would help him with something. Tomorrow night. Okay. Do you need any help? No, no. It's something I got to do on my own. But tomorrow night, it is a date. We are gonna celebrate you. Congratulations. They're really lucky to have you. Thank you.
| ANATOMY OF A SCENE - CHENFORD EDITION 5.13 - Daddy Cop
The joy these two exude every time they see each other, even if it's just in passing, is so pure… And the way neither of them can contain their excitement in this scene makes it that much more beautiful. Especially with how it parallels another moment, where Grey offered Tim a promotion. His reaction was so muted then, despite his obvious pride at his score, which served to highlight Lucy's enthusiasm. But now, he's just as ecstatic, like he's about to burst. This is so different, almost unTim like… And yet, it feels natural. Lucy is the only here, so he can fully be himself. There's no longer a need for pretense or walls. More than that : he knows that she will be just as happy and proud, so he doesn't have to hide his feelings.
I love how he doesn't immediately give her the news though, making her walk through the process instead… Which is so ironic, since she knows all about it. But in that moment, this was all about him for her. About his achievement. There's this second where her face falls a bit, after he corrects himself and explains that technically, there was an opening in Metro. It's something that tends to be overlooked but this is a good reminder that, while she may have orchestrated this five-player trade, she had no idea if it was going to work out, that he would be considered or offered the spot. That was completely out of her hands. She created an opening but he still had to get the job on merits. She was making a gamble with her career with no guarantee that it would pay off. That's how much she loves him. Of course Tim is unaware of her turmoil, all too happy to tell her the good news. And look at her being so enthusiastic, hitting him in the process - seriously, these two are making 'playful physical violence' a love language. It is so funny to see her suddenly remember where they are and check around her before dialling it down a notch, like she did in Follow-up Day, after catching Grey's and Tim's looks. And now, he is the one bouncing on the balls of his feet, almost bouncing. How the tables have turned!
And her words of affirmation, with the most loving look… the way the lighting is hitting her eyes, making them shinier… You can feel all the love. No words are needed here. And Tim being so over the moon… I don't think we have ever seen him that ecstatic before. The way he whispers the first 'I'm excited', just for them… They are in their own bubble, even though they are standing in the middle of the bull pen, with their colleagues in the vicinity. For two persons who used to avoid PDAs with their previous partners, it's quite telling.
The fact that he wants to take her out and celebrate this with her… this is a complete contrast from his prior reactions, including when he became a Sergeant. Lucy might be bummed that she can't celebrate with him that night, but Tim is not missing a beat. It doesn't matter when it happens. His big grin when she insists that they're going to celebrate him… The lower, and quite suggestive, tone of her voice… And again, those heart eyes and her words of affirmation… I love seeing this side of Lucy. Her choice of words are so significant as well : both in Follow-up Day and here, she makes sure to emphasise how 'lucky' the department is to have him. It really feels like a full-circle moment : back then, Tim gave up his promotion to finish her training and here, she played a part in securing him a new one. They're standing so close to each other, almost as if Tim is grabbing her belt to bring her closer to him… It even looks like they were about to kiss before Lucy catches herself and moves away, laughing. With a final lovetap on his shoulder. His big grin… The twinkles in his eyes… And his little nod at the end, as if he can't believe that this is truly his life… And you know what? I can't believe this is canon either.

As I was watching "Day of Death" a couple of weeks ago (as one does), I paused on this whiteboard to see what it said, and something stuck out to me.
On this whiteboard detailing the events of the night that Lucy was abducted, someone wrote this:
Tumblr media
The board says:
hates cats (won't tell anyone)
sucks on lemons
This seems to be personal facts about Lucy that have been included with facts about the case. It's possible these points are about Caleb — maybe things that Lucy relayed to Tim while she was looking Caleb up on social media — but since it's stated repeatedly in the episode that they have "squat" to go on about him, it's more likely that these points are about Lucy.
I have two theories for why these bizarre points are on this board: an in-universe explanation (grounded in the story and the characters), and an out-of-universe explanation (grounded in reasons related to the actual creation of the show).
In-universe: Tim and/or Jackson, desperate to contribute to the investigation, were yelling out whatever they could think of to help build the case.
Now, I can't guess why anyone could have seen these particular tidbits as possibly relevant. But since they all had so little to go on, it would seem that they were throwing absolutely anything at the wall to see what would stick.
This theory mostly stems from the way that Tim was regurgitating every little thing he knew about Caleb the moment he knew that Lucy was missing. His wild spouting of facts is rather out of character: Tim is usually in control, focused on the job. But when Lucy is missing, logic flies out the window for him.
Tumblr media
He tells Grey about the video of Caleb playing with a puppy, why?? Because it's all the information he has to offer to the case. Even if it's not really pertinent, he says it, because he doesn't know what could help Lucy. Also, he's not fully in control of his actions, and he's possibly suffering from motormouth.
I include Jackson as a possible contributor because he is probably the person who is second-most concerned about Lucy, plus one of the people who knows her best, and he has a history of babbling when stressed (I'm thinking of season 1, episode 13, "Caught Stealing," when he tells the Internal Affairs investigator about the gifted creme brulee completely unprompted lol). But in my Chenford shipper heart, I want to say Tim was the one to make these less than helpful contributions.
I can picture Armstrong writing out all this information about Lucy's whereabouts the night of her abduction, stating facts that they know, and Tim and/or Jackson blurting out personal details that might (somehow) give them a clue about where Lucy is now. Maybe Armstrong writes out the addresses of where she was on December 8th, then the stuff about other victims, and then he says, "What else do we know?" and then Tim and/or Jackson start wildly interjecting. They know literally nothing else that is relevant, so all they can say is random trivia about Lucy. And Armstrong, who can see that emotions are very high right now, writes it down to placate them? Or because he's like, "Irrelevant information is better than no information"? (I'm not sure how a detective would think in this scenario.)
Out-of-universe: Some of the set decorators or other crew were messing around, writing down whatever on the boards, and someone forgot to erase this. 😆
I like the in-universe explanation better, since the writing is rather large and this behaviour by Tim and/or Jackson would be consistent with what we see earlier in the episode.

Happy Monday fandom :) I love these episodes for them. I know they’re not always a fan favorite but I adore them. Just for the Chenford content alone. The married moments, the touching, the sassy banter. What’s not to love? Just like I did for 3x07 I’ll just be analyzing their moments in this ep. Since they’re disconnected from rest of group for most part. Let's get going shall we?
4x16 Real Crime
Tumblr media
Sunshine x Grumpy at it's absolute finest kicking this episode off. Lucy is so jazzed to be back. Her little foot kick after she asks how they are? I cannot. She’s so cute. Tim is already over it from the moment his sexy ass hits that chair. It’s so friggin funny. Our king of expressions is on one in this ep. Tim judges Lucy the entire time with serious sass throw in. Their banter mode is on right away and never turns off. We start off with them asking Tim if he saw the last one? Of course he didn't...
Why would he? The only way he would watch it is if Lucy forced him to. haha Lucy rolling her eyes at his answer but with a hint of fondness. She loves her grumpy old man so much. The married train has officially left the station. All aboard. The ride is gonna be hilarious. Tim gets them back on track saying they were first responders to the scene. Tim notes how frustrating it was with all the cameras and coverage nobody saw anything. Nothing useful for the investigation. I mean that is ridiculous tbh. I'm with him on that one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lucy tries to add colorful sound bites and Tim is judging her so damn hard. The amount of sass in that second gif. He was not about that line at all. Like who are you right now? Their mini fight in front of the interviewer I’m dying. ‘Why are you SO happy?’ 'I'm being colorful!' LMFAO Lucy defends why she’s doing this and Tim can’t believe it. The bickering in hushed tones is too funny. Like a true couple. Lucy imitating a wife scolding her husband while defending herself.
God I love these idiots sfm. Naturally this is the last thing Tim wants to be doing. The shake of his head above is one of many to come. We all know he would much rather be out on the streets than dealing with this circus. Lucy going the opposite direction. Wanting to get them as many segments as possible We all know the less he's in this the better for him. He barely wants to be in the amount he's in now. heh
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This next section is one of my faves. First off I love and commend Lucy’s confidence to just rap in public. I adore her so very much. She couldn’t be cuter in this episode if she tried. Of course she has a karaoke jam I adore her. She is more than happy to share this info. We’ve talked about Eric’s comedic timing. He is absolute gold in this.
His reactions from start to finish are what make this portion so amusing. Goes from 'Huh?' to 'WTF is happening?' It's so funny every time I watch it. Tim doesn't need to say anything. His facial expressions say it all. The sheer amount of judgement he is throwing her way is immense. This is the woman you’ve chosen to love Timothy LOL
Lucy is in her own world as she jams this out. Tim is next her with all the judgment he can muster. These moments are one of the many reasons why he loves her though. Just being 100 percent herself no shame in the game. We know it’s these types of goobery scenes that he actually enjoys from her. She looks so joyful and happy when she turns to sing at him. Then she see's his reaction.... Prompting the iconic line below that always makes me laugh.
Tumblr media
Tim’s confusion of her rapping is everything I have to say. I think she’s partly trying to impress him with her rapping skills. He doesn’t give her anything though. LOL They’re so cute I might burst. The marriage moment to end this scene is the best. ‘Can I be interviewed alone? ‘ LMFAO. She is already over his grumpy ass and I’m laughing so hard. Eric and Melissa play off each other so well. It’s a delight to watch them. They have so much chemistry just sitting next to one another. It''s unreal.
Tumblr media
We flit back to them talking about Aaron’s father’s musical partner. Tim delivers a ‘colorful’ sound bit of his own. Lucy is beaming with pride. So much so she has to say to make sure it's noted. Interrupting to heap on that praise. Then casually touches his arm. Not a short touch either. It's 4 seconds. Yes I counted heh She lingers. I love watching Tim get all fidgety and hot under the collar after she does this.
Wringing his hands to shake off the feelings washing over him. Trying not to have his feelings recorded for this documentary. Too late... It’s so cute because one he clearly got a little contact high off that touch. Two she just complimented him publicly with the proudest look on her face. He is riding high ha Look at her. That is proud wifey mode right there. Especially after he thanks her for the compliment.
She tries to put herself back in check but is brimming with giddiness. It's adorable. I cannot with these two. *heart clutch* Be more in love please. It's one of those 'Everyone knows but them moments.' He’s also just so cute when he says ‘Thanks..’ haha Oh my Timothy you are so out of your depth with this documentary. But so adorable I wanna squeeze you. Part me of thinks he was trying to get into this for Lucy. Impress her a little with his quote. Mission accomplished sir. Your girl was very proud. Love these idiots in love so much.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their chemistry is so palpable in these scenes. They're asked a question about the knife in Aaron's kitchen. Saying his DNA was all over the murder weapon. Well duh....Lucy slams the interviewer hard with some solid logic and sass. They're trying to implicate Aaron for having DNA all over the knife in his kitchen... Lucy absolutely destroys this guy's stupid question. Then starts to feel bad afterwards. Checks in with hubby and asks if that was too mean?
Lucy couldn't be cuter turning to her person for feedback. Her immediate reaction to do so getting me all in the feels. I adore him backing her like he does. She looks to him for reassurance and he gives it to her in spades. Saying no that it actually felt good. To be able to stick it to them a bit. You know he is proud of her for doing so. Instead of doing an evocative soundbite she knocked them down a peg. He didn't need to help her in the dept. But the support one? Nailed it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love her proud and smug face when he says it was a dumb question. Careful Lucy your feelings are showing my love. Look at her in that first gif. She a ten but crap at hiding her feelings. The second gif is that same look she always gets when he compliments her. *sigh* I just love them. He backs her so fiercely here and Lucy is so ecstatic with his reply. It’s all over her face especially in the last one. That smug smile when he validates her is everything fo her. Basically saying my hubby says I'm right so that means I am haha
Tag team of smug righteousness and it’s amazing. He is oozing proudness in this moment for her. He followed it up with having her back and she’s a happy girl. Let’s not forget the gloriousness that is Tim’s biceps and forearms out on display. Mmm defending his girl and his arms are crossed? Pass the ice water imma need it. This man is deliciously fit and I too am a happy girl in this moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The case leads them to a woman named Colette who was brought home to their apt that same night. She had a controlling BF that was never questioned. Cue back to Lucy and Tim. Lucy explaining how a group of internet sleuths found him. How they spent countless hours investigating Aaron’s case. Tim notes this group also pointed the finger at a lot of innocent people ruining their lives… Lucy comments some of the members went little too far.... That's putting it lightly. lol
It’s here the interviewer reveals a prominent poster named ‘truecrimejunkie.’ Implying it’s Lucy who posts under that name. The amount of sass Tim is throwing her way is hysterical. I'm laughing so very hard. Tim’s reaction is the best part of this whole scene. It’s the intense stare down he does. This episode has me laughing from beginning to end. The way he fully turns to her is hilarious. Making fun of his wife with just a look. Lucy stumbling around for words and coming up short.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That moment when your husband finds out about your secret internet life LOL Lucy could not be more embarrassed. Stuttering trying to defend herself to Tim. It’s so funny. It finishes off with Tim’s ‘Seriously?’ Eric and Melissa are a god damn treasure. We are so lucky to have them. It's truly mind blowing the chemistry these two have just with their banter alone. What makes these episodes so very good with their segments. They are the best part with their back and forth. I love this episode for them. I defy you not to laugh or smile with this one.
Tumblr media
It comes out Aaron’s mom was in Paris the day Patrick was murdered. Lucy gets all hyped up when they ask what they thought of this? The true crime junkie in her coming out. Saying what a game changer it was. Tim brings her back down to earth with his reply. Lucy doing her cute ‘Well yeah…’
Tim shaking his head. Not at her but this whole documentary. He hates the feelings/people being exploited in this whole thing. Doesn’t sit well with him at all. Once again proving Tim is just a good man on the daily. Not trying to impress anyone with it. It's just who he is as person. His integrity deeply ingrained in him.
Unlike the clown. He's not even in this one but I had to point this out and take a shot. lol Also let's not ignore the GLORIOUS forearm/bicep porn here. My god it's a miracle his work shirt contains those guns of his. Bursting at the seams with muscled goodness. I’m here for it. He could bench press me any day. I'm available is all I'm saying...
Tumblr media
We cut back to Tim and Lucy talking about the case being closed. They have their killer finally. Aaron has been exonerated in the process. She starts on another ‘colorful’ bit and stops herself. Rubbing her tattoo feeling how wrong this is. The way she stops herself mid sentence knowing this. Tim jumping in saying ‘Feels gross doesn’t it?’ She agrees and says 'Yeah.'
Look at Lucy growing in this documentary at the end. No longer wanting to do 'colorful' sound bites to get them more time. Being much more focused on respecting those involved. Her ending statement is much better than her potential ‘juicy sound bite’ Look at our babies still growing. I love this episode. So nice to have after a clown fueled previous ep.
~~~
Side notes non-Chenford
Everyone is funny on these types of episodes. Always enjoy their bits. Especially Harper haha
Patrick’s dad coming to apologize to Aaron was a really nice way to close that chapter of his life. Was very sweet.
Thank you as always to those who like, comment and reblog. I appreciate you all more than you’ll ever know. See you all in 4x17 :)
Chenford + not noticing that they’re basically living together until someone points it out
Sorry this took so long!
Chenford + not noticing that they’re basically living together until someone points it out
Or
5 times people realize Tim + Lucy live together + 1 time they do.
This is our place, we make the call
1.
The first person that realizes Tim and Lucy are living together is Angela. Angela knows Tim and Lucy are close and they always have been close. And when they started dating they only got closer, they were a unit. At first Angela doesn’t think anything of it. She sees Tim and Lucy ride in together a few days after she finds out they are together. And then it starts to happen every single day. Angela’s not even sure Lucy realizes she has her own car.
“Hey.” Says Angela coming up to Tim. “Why are you always driving with Lucy into work?”
Tim looks at her strangely but then shrugs his shoulders.
“Saves gas.” He answers as he busies himself. Angela narrows her eyes at him.
“Do you spend every night with her.” Angela asks and a smile twitches at his lips before he schools his expression into a frown.
“No.” He answers. “I pick her up.” Angela frowns at that. Tim notices her frown and sighs running a hand through his hair. “Haven’t you heard of carpooling Lopez?” He asks.
Angela opens her mouth to reply but just then Lucy comes skipping over and stands in front of Tim smiling. He instantly loses his frown and smiles back at her. Angela rolls her eyes at them.
“Are you ready to go home?” She asks. Angela makes a weird noise and Tim throws her a look over his shoulder as he follows Lucy out of the bullpen. Angela shakes her head at the couple’s retreating back. Whether they realized it or not they were living together.
2.
The next person to realize Tim and Lucy are living together is Tamara. And honestly it starts out slow. Lucy is at the apartment less and less. Which okay makes sense to Tamara, she is with her boyfriend. But then little things start go missing from the apartment. All of Lucy’s bathroom stuff disappears slowly, her clothes slowly disappear too. Tamara goes into Lucy’s closet to borrow and shirt and when she opens up her drawer there is barely anything in there. Tamara frowns and goes into her closet where there are empty hangers but no clothes.
Tamara doesn’t even think Lucy realizes that she has basically moved all her stuff to Tim’s. She rarely spends the night at the apartment.
One night after a night at the bar, Lucy comes stumbling into the apartment with Tim right behind her. His hands on her waist so she doesn’t fall down.
Tamara looks up from the couch and raises her eyebrows. “You are home.” She says and Lucy tilts her head at her.
“I live here.” She says simply. Tim is still holding on to her as she sways a little.
“Do you?” Tamara questions. Lucy tilts her head at her and then looks at Tim who is smiling down at her.
“Of course! I still pay rent don’t I?” She says. Tim laughs and Tamara raises her eyebrows realizing Tim is just as wasted as Lucy.
“I suppose that’s true.” Tamara says slowly. “You would tell me when you are going to move out right?” But Lucy isn’t paying any attention anymore her eyes are on Tim as she pulls on his shirt towards the bedroom. Tamara rolls her eyes at the oblivious couple as they both stumble into the bedroom shutting the door behind them.
Oh they were so living together.
3.
The next person to realize that Tim and Lucy were living together is Aaron. Lucy invited him over to watch the game with Tim. Aaron walks into Tim’s house expecting to find a nice and orderly but bland house. Instead he find a colorful inside of the house and it’s a little messy. There are plants everywhere much like Lucy’s apartment. And Tim doesn’t really seem like a plant guy.
There are more Lucy touches around the house. A colorful blanket lies across the couch and the kitchen has more than one coffee maker. When he goes to get a cup they are in the lowest cabinet possible. The kitchen has little plants here and there in the corner. There’s two bottles of tequila in the fridge which Aaron knows is Lucy’s preferred drink.
“So you and Tim are living together?” Aaron asks Lucy and she chokes on her water as she looks up at him.
“No.” She says. Aaron gives her a dubious look and Lucy raises her eyebrows at him. “What makes you think I’m living with Tim?” Aaron gestures around the kitchen and the living room.
“Tim doesn’t really strike me as a plant guy.” Aaron says just as Tim comes into the kitchen. Lucy snorts as she gets up and makes her way over to Tim’s side.
“Well you would be surprised. He picked out half these plants himself.” She says as Tim tucks her into his side. He grumbles something incoherent, and then leads Lucy to the living room leaving Aaron behind a little dumbfounded.
He lets it go though maybe he is wrong and Tim likes plants. However when steps into the bathroom and sees all of Lucy’s stuff on the counter, yep they are so living together
4.
The next person to realize they are living together is Nolan. Lucy calls him to have him fix something and Tim is working and so he can’t do it himself. Nolan naturally goes over to Lucy’s apartment only to find her not there. Tamara answers the door looking amused.
“She’s probably at Tim’s.” She tells Nolan. “She always is.” Nolan thanks Tamara still a little befuddled as he drives to Tim’s house. Sure enough Lucy’s car is parked in the driveway as if it just belongs there.
Lucy answers the door in Tim’s shirt and gestures him to come in. She needs a few lightbulbs changed and a door fixed.
Nolan is happy to help he is just a little confused as to why Lucy is calling him over to Tim’s house.
“Tim is just always exhausted when he comes home these days.” Lucy says as Nolan changes the hallway light. “I want to surprise him so he doesn’t have to stress about it anymore.”
Nolan nods as he steps down from the ladder and looks at Lucy who is scrolling through her phone.
“Oh we are having a little BBQ this Saturday.” She tells him. “If you and Bailey want to come.” Nolan smiles at her still a little confused as to why she’s just inviting people to Tim’s house.. unless she considers this her house too. Tamara did say she was always here.
“Do you live here?” He blurts out and Lucy scrunches up her nose. In confusion or annoyance Nolan’s not sure.
“Aaron asked me the same thing. And no I am not. I still have my apartment.” Nolan raises his eyebrows in disbelief.
“But you ask me to fix things in his house?” He asks. Lucy shrugs her shoulder and walks to the patio door where she motions to the lock.
“Can you fix the lock? It’s such a pain to get in and out of this door.” She says. Nolan opens his mouth to say more but Lucy is already curling up on the sofa. So Nolan drops it for now.
On Saturday, Nolan and Bailey come over to Tim’s house for the BBQ. He is noticing little things he didn’t the other day. There are so many Lucy touches here and there. He makes his way over to Aaron who is sipping on a beer.
“They are living together aren’t they?” Nolan asks suddenly. Aaron laughs loudly causing Kojo to come running over eagerly.
“Oh big time.” Says Aaron. “This whole house screams Lucy.”
Nolan shakes his head and glances at Tim and Lucy who are practically attached at the hip. And he wonders why they won’t just admit it.
5.
The next person to realize Tim and Lucy are living together is Genny. She and Lucy go to lunch once a month and Genny is just pulling up to Lucy’s apartment to drop her off when Lucy tells her to take her to Tim’s.
Genny is confused because this isn’t the first time she has asked to be dropped off at Tim’s she did it last month too.
“I thought you guys were at your place during the week.” She says and Lucy shrugs as she flips her phone.
“We have just been at his house more lately.” She tells her as if it’s no big deal. “I don’t mind there’s more space and Kojo.”
“So you still stay at your apartment?” Genny asks her. Lucy looks over at her a confused expression on her face.
“Yes.” She says but Genny hears the hesitation in her voice like she’s trying to remember the last time she actually stayed at her apartment. “We stay there.. occasionally.”
“Uh huh.” Says Genny. She pulls into Tim’s driveway next to his truck and Lucy hops out. She takes out the keys and unlocks the door. Genny follows her in, to see Tim waiting for them a smile on his face when he sees Lucy. He kisses her softly and then she excuses herself to go use the restroom.
Genny turns to her brother who is watching the hallway as if he’s watching for her to come back out.
“So when was the last time you were at Lucy’s apartment? She ask.
Tim makes a face as if he’s wondering why she’s asking him that. “I don’t know.” He says. “Why?”
“Well I know you said you stay at her place during the week since it’s closer to work and yours on the weekend.” Genny points out. Tim looks at her as if he wants to answer but then Lucy comes out then wearing leggings and Tim’s shirt.
“We are going to watch the game tonight.” Lucy tells her. “You could bring the boys over and watch it with us.”
Tim smiles and kisses the top of her head before nodding at Genny. “Bring them over.” He tells her. “It will be fun.”
Genny raises her eyebrows as the couple goes to the couch and sits down. Lucy curls into Tim’s side seemingly tired and rests her head on his chest. She’s so comfortable here likes she’s been living here for awhile.
Genny still has questions but for now she glances at her brother and his girlfriend and whether or not it was on purpose or accident they are definitely living together.
+1
Lucy is the next to realize they are indeed living together. She is folding her laundry and putting them in the closet and drawers. She fits everything neatly next to Tim’s stuff. And she wonders when he made room for all her stuff. She glances around the bedroom and sees little things that are hers. Her phone charger is on the bedside table and even the sheets are hers. She remembers the first time they slept together and Tim said he loved her sheets. She once again wonders how her sheets got on Tim’s bed. She wonders into the bathroom and opens the cabinets. All her stuff was neatly in them. Her tampons, her medicine and all her soaps that Tim pretends to hate. But he actually loves because he always nuzzles into her every time she uses it.
Her jaw drops as she sees two toothbrushes on the counter. She thinks back to all the people. asking if they were living together. Tamara. Nolan. Genny.
And she denied it every single time but now…
She had somehow moved into Tim’s house without realizing it. She bounces on her feet as she rushes out to the kitchen to Tim who is cutting something up.
“We are living together.” She blurts out. Tim pauses and looks up at her knife in hand.
“What?” He asks. Lucy clicks her tongue and gestures around the room.
“I moved all my stuff in here without realizing it. I mean seriously Tim. You moved everything lower so I could reach it. There are plants everywhere. And all my clothes fit in the dresser and closet!” She says. Tim drops the knife as he stares at her.
“But I would have asked you to move in with me.” He points out. “How did we not realize this?” Lucy shrugs and makes her way over to him a little skip in her step.
“I mean I don’t have to live here..” She starts but Tim is shaking his head before she even finishes her sentence.
“No!” He says. “No I want you here Lucy. I always want you here.” She smiles up at him and she can’t help but laugh a little.
“So is this you officially asking me to move in with you Bradford?” She asks him teasingly. Tim wraps his arms around her and pulls her tightly into his chest.
“Yes baby. Do you want to move in with me?” He asks her a soft smile on his face.
She nods her head and then kisses him again nice and slow. “Good thing all my stuff is already moved.” She says. Tim laughs and just hugs her closer to him and Lucy can’t help but feel at home right here in his arms.
What are your top 5 cold opens??
Do you mean Rookie cold opens, or just for any show ever? Because this is probably my favorite cold open of all time:
youtube
Just kidding, obviously you mean The Rookie.
You know, for as many times as I’ve watched this show, you'd think this would be easy. Instead, my brain immediately blanked on most of the cold opens and I just spent 2 hours looking through all the episode transcripts and then rewatching a bunch of them and struggling to narrow it down.
(I couldn't find gifs for most of these so I decided to just use images; image sources are linked)
Top 5
2x06 Fallout I’m such a sucker for simple comedy, and this one is that for sure. Nolan’s steadily growing horror combined with the guy’s cheeky smile when Nolan realizes he has a dick piercing? Perfection. It cracks me up so much!
Tumblr media
4x17 Coding Don’t get me wrong, I love a good short, comedic cold open. But this one… holy cow. It punches me in the heart every single time. It’s so intense and so sad, and just a really moving scene. I’m listing these chronologically, but if I was going in order, this one would probably be at the top.
Tumblr media
5x09 Take Back Grey is such an underrated character, and I always love when he gets his own storyline. He’s typically so stoic and professional, so to see him completely out of his element is just endlessly hilarious to me.
Tumblr media
5x13 Daddy Cop This is another one that just makes me laugh every time. It’s such an annoyingly catchy and hilarious song. And Celina singing along at the end is really just the icing on the cake.
Tumblr media
5x16 Exposed I mean… isn't it obvious? We start off with Chenford in bed together, with Tim curled towards her and his head basically laying on her pillow. Which is just adorable. And then we immediately transition to Lucy being just an absolute badass. This cold open encapsulates the softness of their relationship, Lucy’s UC skills, and Tim’s unwavering support for her so well.
Tumblr media
Honorable Mentions
Because there are so many other good ones!
1x13 Caught Stealing This one makes the list because it's the first time we ever really see Tim mess with Lucy. Like... the fact that he could get mad at her, but instead he takes a picture of her and makes t-shirts? I love it!
Tumblr media
1x19 The Checklist Again, simple yet funny. And Talia’s reaction to meeting Will.I.Am is probably the funniest moment we ever saw from her.
Tumblr media
2x14 Casualties This one just cracks me up. That’s really all I can say.
Tumblr media
4x02 Five Minutes The only reason this one didn’t make the top five is because the boot prank is just one tiny piece of the entire cold open. Which is also a good scene… just not quite top 5.
Tumblr media
4x22 Day in the Hole It was hard for me to push this one out of the top five because this scene has so much. Chenford bickering like an old married couple. Tamara’s awful driving. She and Tim joking with each other. The fact that he gave her the name of his mechanic. And, of course, let’s not forget the fact that this scene sets up the entire Dim/Juicy storyline.
Tumblr media
5x10 The List I mean. Do I even need to explain this one? If it was just the deciding what to wear scene, 100% this would be top five. But I get a lot of secondhand embarrassment from awkward scenes, and that date has some great moments but overall it’s just so awkward.
⚠️spoilers ahead⚠️
I wanna say that episode was crazy and I absolutely did not care about any other story line besides two.
John and Bailey
I’m beyond upset they went this route because if they were gonna make him have another kid (I love Bailey and I love Jenna) I wish they would have kept Jessica. Quite frankly it feels insulting to her character. But hey maybe he just didn’t want to have a kid with her but that breaks my heart too. But I have to admit after what happened with Chenford I was relieved because I figured the alternative was a breakup/divorce.
That being said I can definitely get on board with this and I think that Bailey will be an amazing mother…I think what it comes down to is I just don’t like John lmao so I heavily criticize everything he does. Love Bailey tho she’s an icon
Now for Chenford.
Im gonna say something controversial ( maybe )
I don’t want them back together right now. I think Tim desperately needs therapy. He can’t sit there and ask for her back if he isn’t going to help himself. Lucy had given up so much just to be with him and he’s being completely selfish right now. “You deserve better” stfu YOU CAN BE BETTER. you’re choosing not to be. Because it’s easier for him.
And no I don’t mean just therapy or that girl following him and Aaron around for a day while they shoot people. I mean actual real therapy where they actually talk about every single one of Tim’s issues. He can’t keep bringing up Isabel and doing shit to help himself. He can’t keep pushing Lucy away to protect her.
I want Lucy to start focusing on herself, dealing with her anxiety, and her self confidence. I think if she ever wants to succeed anywhere she needs to first help herself. She’s been so dependent on outside relationships- John than Emmett than Chris and now Tim. She’s hiding from her issues too and I truly think that Chenford won’t succeed unless they work on their issues.
I love Chenford and hope they work out but things need to change. 🤷🏽‍♀️
Everyone asks about what we want to see in S6, but I'm curious, what are your wants in general for S6 or beyond? Any particular storylines you'd like to see?
Honestly I'm just beyond grateful that we're getting a season 6! (In terms of renewal, and of course the strikes.)
What I want (also includes things I don't want) under the cut!
Tim and Lucy dance at the wedding!!! (it's a need)
KOJOOOOOOOOOOO
The little things: holding hands, a kiss on the cheek, one coming up and wrapping their arms around the other from behind. Just those soft things that are so easily overlooked, but frankly these little moments often have the biggest impact.
CHENFORD I LOVE YOU! That's the only "big" development I need for them in season 6, mostly because I think it should have happened in season 5.
Oh I lied, other big thing I'd really like to see - Chenford living together. Because let's face it, they already do, so might as well make it official already! (Especially if there's a time jump of any kind. Grown ass adults move faster in relationships than 20-year-olds.)
Aaron lives! (I almost didn't bother including this one since he obviously does, but still)
Development to (if not resolution of) everything that's been brewing regarding Lucy's undercover career. I know everyone has their own (strong) opinions on what they want to happen/where they want this to land, but I just want Lucy to have the career she deserves AND the life that she wants (and I personally don't think she can have both with the current state of things) AND for her and Tim to be in a good place. So ultimately I hope she realizes that UC is not for her - BUT NOT JUST BECAUSE OF TIM, because it goes against her character, because she doesn't want to leave herself, her friends, her life behind... (I could write an essay on this, and... oops apparently I have!)
Related the above, but Lucy to advance in her career. Be that as a detective or some other type of promotion or advancement. Girl has been killing it, she deserves it! (As much as I think having Angela and Nyla AND Lucy as detectives is too many detectives, I would loooove to see that trio kicking ass together!)
More Tim and Angela moments. Aside from Chenford, this is my absolute favourite relationship on the show, I adore their friendship and I'd love to see more of it!
Aaron and Celina to be just friends. Petition for more platonic male-female friendships on TV!! And they just give off BFF energy to me
Genny! Moments with Tim, moments with Lucy, maybe tell us her other kid's name... they made a point of moving her character to Los Angeles, I hope they use her!
No pregnancy for Bailey/Nolan. Congrats to Jenna, but we've had pregnancies every season since season 3 and it's a lot. Plus Nolan wasn't keen a few seasons ago, and he's even older now, and giving the lead character a newborn at home would really fuck with the dynamics. Also petition for more female characters choosing not to have kids, representation matters! (Oops another essay...)
Better integration of the various characters. Lots of people dislike Bailey (I am not one of them), but I personally think the biggest hiccup with her character is that she almost exclusively interacts with Nolan. This cast has incredible chemistry, so I would really like to see them play with that more! What I would give for a ladies night with all these badass women (you know they'll stumble across a crime or something...)
I'm sure there's more, but I've yammered on enough. Aside from these things, I'm just REALLY looking forward to my beloved show coming back. This cast is magical, I love how they manage to keep it light, and I'm excited to see what they have planned for us.
And I'm hoping for some renewed inspiration for fic ideas, too! Oh and that reminds me, my biggest want for season 6? RENEWAL FOR SEASON 7!!!!!!!!
Chenford + ""Come back to bed."
Tim's voice is thick with sleep as it filters in from the bedroom. She hums in response, knowing he won't hear it, knowing that even if he did, he'll just repeat himself. "Hey," he says with a bit more clarity, as though he's sitting up. "Come back to bed, please."
Lucy smiles to herself, turning off the tap and taking a slow sip of her water before turning back towards the half-asleep man in her bed. She makes her way back slowly, flipping off the lights and leaning against the doorframe for a long few moments as she catches sight of Tim in the low light of her bedroom. He's sitting up against the headboard, shirtless, blinking slowly like he could fall back to sleep at any second. "You're awake," she speaks quietly, her voice just carrying through the silence. "I'm sorry."
"C'mere," he mumbles, shaking his head as he pulls the blankets back for her. She shuts her eyes for a moment, swallowing hard as she pushes off from the doorframe. After setting her water glass down on the bedside table, she crawls back into bed next to him and presses her face into his forearm, kissing his bare skin gently as his fingers weave loosely into her hair. "Where'd you go?"
Lucy laughs. "I was thirsty," she shrugs, knowing he'll be able to tell she's lying. "I didn't think I'd wake you."
"You have a heavy step," he rumbles, and even though she can feel him smirking into her hair, she swats at his shoulder with a huff. They're quiet for a long moment, long enough that she thinks he could've fallen back asleep, before he lets out a slow rolling breath. "You were tossing and turning. Bad one?"
She sighs louder than she means to. Her nightmares haven't been as frequent as of late, but when she does have them, they're all-consuming. Her skin pricks with goosebumps as he slides his hand over the curve of her waist, still clammy with sweat. "Bad one," she affirms, nodding once. She hadn't intended on mentioning it, but there's no point in lying if he's already called her out on it. "I wasn't a fan."
Tim hums, nodding slowly. He leans in and kisses her forehead, letting himself linger for a long moment. "I'm right here," he murmurs, and she nods because she knows that. The nightmares aren't rational – they're annoying, they're moronic, they're unrealistic, and they've been keeping her awake more nights than not over the last few months.
She'd assumed there were only so many scenarios where she could stumble upon Tim's dead body, but apparently there are thousands of varieties. She's gotten the standard dose of: discovering your boyfriend's dead body in a dumpster, identifying your boyfriend's dead body in a morgue, opening the trunk of your car to find your boyfriend's dead body staring back up at you, all of which are slightly less terrifying than the more niche flavors.
Tonight had been a combo: a fake out version of your boyfriend's doppelgänger's dead body in the back seat of your car when you got out of work mixed with the sudden revelation of your actual boyfriend's dead body in his office, waiting for you to come find him.
He pulls her from her thoughts, tugging her hand to his chest and pressing it down over his left pec. His heart beats slowly beneath her palm and he tugs his other hand free from her hair, sliding it over the top of hers and tapping his fingers against her knuckles. "See? I'm right here."
He's made a habit of this on the nights he wakes up, which is almost every night, much to both her anguish and relief. He presses her hand over his heart, doing his best to remind her that this, here, now is real.
She hums softly, tipping her head to the side to kiss him where she can reach. Her lips brush his shoulder and she finds his eyes, holding his gaze for a long moment. He taps his fingers over hers slowly, deliberately. One, two, three.
They haven't said it yet, but she isn't sure they have to.
Lucy kisses his skin lightly three times, then rolls into his side and untangles their arms just to tangle them back up. His hand slides up her body to cup her left breast through her t-shirt the way it does every night, and her right foot presses lightly, tenderly against his calf, her toes brushing his skin as she hums. "You're right here," she breathes, and he yawns against the back of her neck, nodding.
"Sleep, sweets," he murmurs, and if she'd had any doubts she could fall back asleep before, they melt away at the sound of his deep, husky voice against her ear. "No dreams, alright?"
She's not sure if she nods or simply thinks about nodding, but if she has anything to do with it, she'll be listening to his instructions.
I don’t think Tim’s pain should be excused, however nobody seems to be acknowledging how DISRESPECTFUL Tim was toward Lucy in last episode … actually making not want them back together because he’s treating her like she meant nothing to him
Hey Anon!
I needed to take some time to answer your question for several reasons. One of them being that I didn't want it to be bundled (also in my head) with hateful comments about me being Tim defender. More importantly, I wanted to really think about what to say here. My answer is going to be one of tl;dr so here goes my general reflections about fandom, TV shows and life.
Firstly, someone said here very wisely at some point that it is great, how different we see scenes, dialogues and react to character building. I also think this is what makes things interesting as long as we keep our discussion civilized and open-minded.
Please, I don't want you, dear Anon, to find this lengthy answer as invalidating to your reflections. You have every right to this judgment, to your emotions and wanting to skip shipping Chenford.
You know, I rarely watch TV shows to judge or relive the drama. I am a sucker for TV shows that are well written (and I consider The Rookie one of these) is that they usually give me a lot of reflection on different characters and all kinds of life situation. I watch them mostly to analyze. And Chenford situation atm is nothing if not a deep pool to explore :D
The analysis is what I really feel like doing with Tim (and a lot of other plots in The Rookie). His perspective is a very distant to one that I follow in my life and that's what makes it interesting for me. He is a deeply bruised man in an obvious mental health crisis. And thus I am not feeling like judging his moves. I want to understand what he does and why he does that.
I've been in a mental health crisis myself. And boy, I was desperate. I was looking for any kind of reassurance I'm doing OK. I was left and judged by my friends. I felt so alone.
So, to add up all that. The way I see this situation is that it's not disrespectful for me, as I try to find different colors of Tim. It's a deeply wrong reaction, a scheme that he tries to fall into. The (once) safe common ground with Lucy: a work talk (that's the same he does in new sneak peek of 6x08). It's not an excuse, it's more of an explanation. I don't think it's good or right what he did, but I get why he did it and he is in an extremely flawed place.
Of course, if we are talking of disrespect and things happening in the relationship we need to consider both sides. So there goes Lucy side. As I see it, Lucy is, well, she is strong. To start. She also knows her boundaries so well. She sets them immediately with Tim. And I don't think also that she found his part disrespectful. I think she treated this a facade, maybe a BS also a little bit. I think she really hopes Tim will get his sh*t together (he needs to, let's be honest about that too). I'm happy she won't let that done at the expense of herself.
I don't think I see any of the disrespectful dynamic written in their relationship. But then again, I wouldn't have chosen to be with a partner like Tim, because I need a healthy attachment style and a good communication (which all I found in the beautiful mind of my husband). I think I've also always been rooting for guys like Tim has to find the good path. So, yeah.
Thanks to any of you that decided to stick to the end of this answer. I hope it makes any sense.
Chenford + pregnancy scare post canon!
Hi lovely anon!
First, I would like to thank you for being the first person to request a prompt from me; I'm honored! I hope this gives you everything you wanted and more! 😊
Lucy wasn't entirely sure how long she'd been sitting there, perched on the edge of her tub, the solid pink line of the pregnancy test staring back at her.
Not pregnant.
As soon as Lucy had finally gathered the courage to look, a myriad of emotions had run through her so fast she could barely keep up. First came the predictable relief, her breath rushing out of her lungs in one solid exhale. When she had made her New Years resolutions a few months ago, an unexpected pregnancy had definitely not been one of her goals for the coming year.
Next, came the feeling of freedom; knowing her body was still entirely her own, and nothing was going to interfere with her trajectory at work for the foreseeable future. Watching Harper, then Nolan, and finally Tim moving up in the department over the last year had motivated her to start thinking hard about her own next steps in her career, and a baby would only complicate that by tenfold.
But then, much to Lucy's surprise, a third emotion had floated to the surface, one that stayed with her long after she'd thrown the test away and drove over to Tim's for dinner.
Disappointment, with a hint of sadness mixed in.
As she sat at Tim's kitchen island watching him cook them dinner, she couldn't stop picturing what he would look like with a baby, their baby, cradled in his arms. He would be an amazing father, and the idea of him being the father of her children made Lucy's heart ache so bad it hurt.
While they had only been dating for six months, Lucy had known from the moment he kissed her in the food truck parking lot that she was head over heels in love with him. Honestly, this was Tim Bradford she was talking about, how could she not be?
Their relationship was moving faster than any relationship Lucy had ever been in, but every time she thought she would be freaked out by their speedy progression, it actually ended up being the exact opposite. Everything with Tim just felt so right, like it had always been meant to be.
"Penny for your thoughts?"
Blinking, Lucy was startled out of her reverie, the corners of her mouth curving into a smile as she regarded the shiny penny that was being held in front of her face, Tim's curious gaze blurry behind it.
Gently taking the coin from his grasp, Lucy turned it over in her hand, debating with herself on whether or not she should tell him. If it had been anyone else, Lucy wouldn't think twice to lie about it, but she and Tim had promised each other from the start that they'd always be honest with each other, even when it was hard or scary.
Taking a deep breath to steady herself, Lucy admitted, "I was just thinking about some, news, I got today."
"Is everything okay?" Tim immediately asked, brows furrowed.
"Yeah, everything's fine," Lucy quickly reassured him, reaching out to cover his hand with her own. "It's just- I thought I might be pregnant; I'm a few days late, and my stomachs been a mess, but I wasn't sure if that's because I was a few days late, you know? So I decided to take a test before I came over, just to check."
Tim stopped breathing, his gaze locked on hers.
"It was negative," she continued gently, watching his face intently as he processed the news.
She swore she saw something like disappointment flash across his face before he schooled his features back into place, his hand squeezing hers.
"Well that's good news, right?"
Her heart rate starting to rise, Lucy said, "Yeah, it is, this wasn't something we were planning for."
"But?" he asked softly, picking up on her hesitation.
"But, I also feel a little sad about it, which I wasn't expecting."
Tim was quiet for a few moments, Lucy's anxiety continuing to rise. Maybe she had shared too much; been too honest.
But then Tim was giving her a small smile, his thumb gently rubbing over the top of her hand.
"I know what you mean," he said, his gaze soft.
"Really?" Lucy breathed, hope starting to weave its way into her heart.
"Really," he said, letting go of her hand to walk around to her side of the island, his strong arms wrapping around her as he hugged her to his chest, his chin resting on the top of her head.
"You don't think we're going too fast?" Lucy murmured quietly, leaning back into his embrace.
Tim shrugged, his shoulders brushing the bottom of her ears. "I don't if you don't."
Craning her neck around, Lucy looked into his eyes, finding the love she was feeling reflected in his gaze.
"I don't," she answered softly, her eyes fluttering closed as he kissed her forehead.
"There's a few things I'd like to happen first before we throw a kid into the mix, but I also won't be mad if it happens before then."
"I don't think I will either," Lucy admitted, resting her head against his chest.
"Yeah?'
"Yeah."
"Well, while we're being honest with each other, I've had something I've been meaning to ask you."
Lucy spun around, his arms falling away from her body as she twisted the barstool to face him.
"Not that," he said with a chuckle, Lucy feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She wasn't sure she was ready to hear that question, at least not yet.
"I uh, I heard you grumbling the other week about how your lease is almost up, and how rent is going up for your building next year. And I was thinking, seeing as how we've barely spent a night apart since we started dating, I was thinking maybe you and Tamara might wanna come stay here, with me."
"Like, move in with you?" Lucy asked, her eyes searching his face.
"Yeah, I know it seems fast, but-"
"Yes," Lucy interjected immediately, a smile breaking out over her face.
"Really?" he asked, the surprise and vulnerability in his voice making Lucy reach out and kiss him.
"Really," she mumbled against his lips, cupping his face in her hands. "I mean, I'll have to talk about it with Tamara, see how she feels, but for me, I've been getting tired of all the running back and forth between your place and mine; it'd be nice to have a place that's ours."
Tim pulled back slightly to stare at her, his expression happier than she'd ever seen it.
"I love you," he breathed, leaning in to give her a soft, slow kiss.
The moment their lips parted, Lucy couldn't wait to tell him, "I love you, too."
I didn't want to say anything but when I watched the first scene yesterday I was annoyed because this is for me where the show miss when it come to intimacy. They could have shown intimacy with tim kissing her cheek/neck (I so want a neck kiss but I know it's never happening) when he came from the bedroom or when he went to the shower. Like it's not even about sex. That scene missed that element I think. The show truly have room for more playfulness with them. And this is where I don't understand why they give up that part from season 1 & 2. They showed intimacy like that. Emmett and lucy had 1 scene and they were able to show me something I still wait to see for c henford. During my rewatch I got so bitter because the scenes between lucy and nolan are exactly how I imagine lucy and tim when I think about them. I don't understand why we can't have scenes like that. For a room of writers that love playing with storylines they're not really fan of playing with couple with cute couple moments. For the hot moments like you said every other shows on abc show us too.. it truly special how the show don't want anything to do with stuff like that.
I have to be honest, if it wasn't for Tim talking about the hookup in the laundry I wouldn't have think they had sex, this is how weird it was to just cut like that the scene. 💀 (important to note that you can see the difference with couple moment after season 2 with angela & wesley. They had scenes they wouldn't have now. Like the hook up they had at work in the room. )
You're definitely not alone! And the way I would go feral for a coming up from behind neck kiss!!!! @$^*$@<*$@,>/#!!!
I agree with you, really, it isn't about sex, it's that intimacy that we miss out on. And like you said, this isn't just about Chenford. None of the couples really have any intimate scenes shown.
And if it was always this way, sure, no big deal. But there was more intimacy shown in earlier seasons. I remember one scene with Wesley and Angela in season 5 sitting on the couch and I thought, and then they kiss. No? Okay, a kiss here? No. No kiss whatsoever, got it.
If I had the opportunity to write the laundry room scene for the show, it would have gone something like this...
"Hey, wait...lock the door first."
Tim, although slightly surprised, catches on quick. Walking backward, he saunters over to the door, his gaze never leaving Lucy's. The lock turns in his hand, shutting out the rest of the world.
He walks back over to Lucy, meeting her in just 4 quick steps. His lips are on hers instantly, as he cradles her head in his hands.
Their kisses are quick and desperate as he pushes her back up against the washing machine and his hands reach out to pull at the zipper on her jacket.
Fade to black
You can do tasteful sex scenes with fade to black to give the viewers a little something, while still keeping things PG-13.
In terms of the writers, I don't know that this is entirely on them. It could very well be an actor/actress setting boundaries and not wanting to do these types of scenes. In which case, I respect the boundaries and learn to deal with it.
But I do agree, something definitely shifted from the earlier seasons to the later seasons. I would be genuinely surprised to see any hotter scenes going forward. I would absolutely welcome it, don't get me wrong, but it would definitely be surprising.
Timothy. Do you have feelings for Lucy? No. No, I'm dating Ashley. And Lucy is with Chris. And I'm her superior officer, so… All true. Not what I asked.
| ANATOMY OF A SCENE - CHENFORD EDITION 5.01 - Double Down
Having these two scenes - Lucy's dream and this one - back to back is absolutely brilliant… It really emphasises how they are both affected by that kiss… how these feelings aren't just one-sided. And the choice to showcase how they are each still reeling from this is quite interesting as well : while Lucy has her dream, Tim actually needs to talk about it. That's how flustered he is… Let that sink in : he actively seeks Angela to confide in her. About kissing Lucy. And he does it in the open, right in front of the station. Where anyone could really hear them.
And Angela… Her smirk is priceless. She is having the time of her life and who could blame her?! 'How much did you practice?' That line kills me every time… It's the way she is simply pointing out the ridiculousness of the situation… There was no need to practice kissing or PDAs, and she knows it. Tim knows it. All of this was really just a flimsy excuse. But that's not what he wants to hear… He looks so done already, regretting his life choices in that instant. And by that, I mean going to Angela, not the kiss. That's the thing with best friends : they can see right through you… As she says : if this was just a kiss, he wouldn't feel the need to talk about it. Or pretend he's asking for a friend Lucy. He is telling on himself, even more so considering how private he usually is. He rarely is that forthcoming, which means he is completely shooketh. And her knowing looks are on point. He is so transparent, it doesn't even seem fair.
Especially once he starts looking distraught at the idea that this might have truly been just a kiss for Lucy. Angela can see that, allowing her to ask the real question, the one she has been dying to ask : whether he has feelings for Lucy or not. And that answer… His 'no' couldn't have sounded any less convincing if he tried… the way his voice went up three octaves… And it's the fact that he comes up with reasons as to why he can't be with Lucy that makes this even better (or worse). Not only was this not what Angela was asking… It actually shows that he has been thinking about this. Again, way to tell on himself. Thankfully he is saved by their chief's arrival… Otherwise she would have eaten him alive.
I am not sure about you but I am scared for Chenford and their future 6x6 from both the next two episode descriptions and the interview that Melissa did when she said there was a scene that was very vulnerable and emotional. I am so worried they will break up. So much Ship Trauma. What do you think?
you and me both, bestie 😭😭😭 trying to piece together what s6 has in store for us has become my new roman empire lmao. i'm sooo curious! i have loved every episode in s6 so far and from the promoting and interviews they've done it sounds like we're in for an emotional ride for the latter half of the season.
i think what currently has me on the floor sobbing aside from tim and lucy at the hospital is the fact that by the end of tuesday's episode he's there, he's got our girl, she's safe with him but from the logline of the next episode, he's gone awol. i really do think that whatever it is that pulls him away and "leaves lucy in the dark" has to be a very strong reason like whoever is coming back is someone lucy doesn't know and is not the best time for her to meet.
i keep thinking of the look on his face when he walked into the hospital room, he was so distraught like you could feel his urgency to be by her side. plus, there's no way he would willingly disappear on lucy when she needs him the most. my guess is he disappears because he genuinely believes he's protecting her, whether he thinks telling her about it will be an added burden to what she's already dealing with or her safety could be compromised if he told her? tim loves to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders and i think this will be another example of that.
how they'll support each other while they're both going through individual hardships will be very interesting. i will say i'm super excited for both of their individual storylines, they both sound beautifully heartbreaking and i can't wait to see how it adds to their character development.
i personally struggle to see them breaking up at any point, the stakes are far too high to justify even a short 'break'. they've constantly reassured each other and others that no matter what life throws at them, they'll get through it. i could see something like 6x01 where one of them walks away and maybe they avoid each other for a few days because they're both equally stubborn and hurt?
i definitely want to validate that worry though like ship trauma is so real! hopefully this may help ease that a little ♡ — in this interview they discuss diving into tim's past this season and how lucy will help bring out the best in him to help him navigate it, so they'll definitely be there for one another ♡
all to say, i do think they still have more than one uphill battle to get through like they had just started to scratch the surface with the lucy being a uc conflict so they have that to continue to work through plus whatever is yet to come. i think it'll be angsty, probably a bit heartbreaking, but also really beautiful.
