Real Gourmand Hours
Wanted to do some Shapes with some grainy brushes, so I decided to refine an idea for a Gourmand design! Inspired very, very faintly by raccoons, and mostly by the fact that I wanted to render as much fluff as I could.
Gourmand is certainly the fluffiest of the slugcats, and they have the body heat to match. Big, furry paws, nice and robust body--he's a little stretched out here like a show cat, but plumps up when sitting down or crouching. I think I need to develop them a bit more in that sense of showing the Rotundness, but this is a good start!
In Apricity, Gourmand isn't present that often, but I like the idea of the Cherrypie ship, so I think whenever Gourmand shows up, she's right near Hunter. I think they go off together on little food quests to more out there regions, so they sort of cycle in and out together. Gourmand is also very large, so she gets all of the pronouns.

Summary: Women are beautiful, but they sure don’t make ‘em like her.
Warnings: Weed, Alcohol, Mentions of sex.
A/N: I wrote this to cope with the copious amounts of work I had due but I finished it all so now we celebrate!
Hogwarts had many things but one thing it lacked severely was normality. Not that it was a problem, nobody who attended Hogwarts was normal but it didn’t stop a portion of muggle born students from feeling a bit homesick to things their muggle friends did at their own schools. That’s how the talent shows started. At first, the students tried to get it officiated by the school. Dumbledore thought it was a wonderful idea!....if it was professor supervised and when it turned out that Snape was the only professor with enough freetime on his hands, the idea of having it being school ran quickly flew out the window. But looking back on it now, many were happy they went with the idea of going behind the professors backs. It wasn’t like they weren’t aware, they just had no proof of it all happening. The atmosphere of the talent shows were different from ordinary talent shows, however.
For starters, anything went. Any talent you had you were encouraged to bring it no matter how big or small it was or if it was “school appropriate”. But the pro to this was also booze and bud, meaning that everyone had a good time no matter what. Although, as it would turn out there were many talented people at Hogwarts. So, for the past few months every Friday everyone would gather in the room of requirement, watching the many ups and downs of performances. Neville started frequenting there as often as he could. It was a win-win, his friends got free entertainment and he had a chance to make some money from selling to chumps with too much cash on their hands. What better way was there to spend the night? 
His hazel eyes snapped up at the feeling of his blunt being ripped out of his hand. He went to swear, glaring at whoever was stupid enough to do that but quickly stopped as he saw who it was. He watched with wide eyes as the tip of it went between her pretty (l/c) lips, exhaling smoke. (Y/n) (L/n). She was one of those girls you either knew or you didn’t but more than likely, you knew her. Before 5th year, no one so much as spared her a glance but after a very fortunate late puberty in their current year (7th) she was slowly becoming all anyone could talk about. It was truly amazing what a haircut and a bit of weight in your hips could do for your social life. He eyed her curiously as she looked down at him.
“You comin’ tonight?” she asked, exhaling another puff of smoke into his face. (Y/n) put the joint back in his hand, moving the heavy guitar case into her now free hand.
“Yeah. ‘Spose I am.” He mumbled, eyes trailing down the expanse of her plush thighs. They were on full display due to the skirt she wore that left nothing to the imagination. His eyes locked with her (e/c) ones as she hummed, nodding as she took the blunt back from him walking off. She flashed him a smile once more, winking as she turned the corner going merlin knows where.
“Oi! What does she think she’s doing? You really gonna let her take the blunt from you like that just because she’s fit?” Ron complained, glaring at the boy who was set with the rest of their group. Neville shrugged, turning his eyes back to his book as he turned the page.
“If you’re so bothered by it why don’t you go take it back yourself?” Neville sassed. They all looked at Ron waiting for a response, laughing as he had nothing to say but a small ‘piss off’ under his breath.

Neville wasn’t one to put too much into his appearance. He’d usually just throw on a sweater vest over one of his uniform shirts and call it a day. However after the conversation he had had with (Y/n) earlier, he couldn’t help but wanna look nice. Was she flirting with him? He sighed as he glanced at his appearance in the mirror for a bit. ‘I doubt it.’ he thought. He shook the negative thoughts out of his head, packing his satchel with a few different strains. Just because some pretty girl was batting her pretty little eyes at him didn’t mean he was going to forget the reason he went to these things in the first place. The only other time Neville made this much money was Gryffindor common room parties and even then, it was only by a little.
But even as he was checking his appearance once again, he couldn’t help but let his thoughts drift. “Why am I wigging out? It’s not like we haven’t talked before.” He said out loud to himself. (Y/n) was a frequent buyer from him and even though he didn’t know her personally, she was one of the few people whose faces he remembered. At first, he was extremely annoyed by her. Who did she think she was showing up at his dorm at 3AM just to buy a bit of fucking jane? Every wednesday at the same time, she’d show up at his door (in a negligee that was far too short might he add) with that dopey look on her face asking to buy. And every single time without a doubt, he’d sell it to her. He had to admit, after a while he even started to enjoy the girl’s appearance. It gave him something to look forward to during his mundane school week.
“Ready to go, Nev? If we leave now, we can use a secret passage my brothers’ showed me.” Ron said, opening the door to Neville’s door. The lanky boy cleared his throat, giving the boy a nod as he wiped his sweaty hands on his pants. Without another word, they both began their way ready for the night to unfold.
As usual, the talent show didn’t disappoint...for all the wrong reasons. Even though the cringe worthy performances were top notch entertainment and he had already made quite a bit of money, he still couldn’t stop from searching the crowd for a certain head of (h/c) hair. Where was she? After the stunt she had pulled earlier, he was sure she would be here. She had some nerve doing that and then not showing up. However, as he turned his gaze back to the stage, he saw the woman of the hour herself. She was in an oversized crochet sweater dress and a pair of combat boots. His eyes looked up in wonder as she took the stage, sitting on a wooden stool that was placed from the last sad excuse of a performance.
“It’s a bloody shame that she’s so fucking hot. Poor thing is going to embarrass herself singing up there.” Ron said, taking a sip from the beer he had in his hand. Neville nodded in agreement, taking a hit from his blunt but not really paying mind to his friend. It was hard to do so when the girl of his dreams was on the stage a mere foot away from him. He was absolutely intoxicated by her (and the few shots he had taken a bit ago) but he had to agree it would suck when she-”
“You taste like the fourth of July
Malt liquor on your breath, my, my”
She sang into the microphone softly. Neville’s jaw dropped in awe at the sound of her voice which was nothing short of angelic. He wasn’t the only one who was stunned considering the whole crowd went silent, a stark contrast from the loud chatter and laughter from before. He watched as she strummed at the guitar in her hands, looking up from the ground into the crowd. Mesmerized wasn’t even the right word to describe the state he was in. 
“I love you but I don’t know why…”
His eyes were focused on her lips, taking in every word she said. Harry nudged him, mouthing the words ‘look up’ to him as a small pause had come into the song. Neville looked at him confused before trailing his eyes up, gasping when he saw that hers were locked on his own. She smiled and flashed him a wink before continuing her song, leaning in forward. His own body began to subconsciously drift forward to but at the last second she pulled away and continued to sing.
"Did you see that? She definitely wants me." Seamus boasted confidently. The others looked at him dumbfounded at the fact he could get even more idiotic than ever before.
"Don't be fucking dumb mate! She was clearly looking at me." Ron chimed in, causing another round of even more exasperated looks to be thrown the ginger's way. They truly were dumb and dumber.
"I-I think both of you are wrong. (Y/n) was looking at.." Harry trailed off as the girl stood up, dancing around the stage with her guitar as she continued to sing. Not a single pair of eyes weren't on her at the moment. Could you blame anyone? When a beautiful girl with the voice of a siren is on stage, you'd be a fool not to. However, dumb and dumbers’ argument ceased as she made very clear eye contact with their awkward friend.
“You can be the boss, daddy

“That’s all me boys.” Neville said, a triumphant smirk taking over his place as Dean leaned over to give him a fist bump. As much as (Y/n) had him wrapped around her finger, it appeared she was wrapped around his too. All the angry glares being sent his direction were only fuel to the pride he felt growing in his chest. Such a pretty girl, the same pretty girl who plagued all his wet dreams and shower thoughts, was not only on stage singing in front of him, but directly to him as well. She reached a hand forward, tips of her fingers lightly brushing against his flushed cheeks.
“I like you a lot, I like you a lot
Don’t let it stop”
“This is totally unfair. One of the hottest chicks in our year and she’s pining over Longbottom.” Seamus grumbled, grimacing as the liquor went down his throat hard. Dean rolled his eyes, shaking his head.
“Jealous much?” he asked no one in particular, as that could be said about most of the guys they were sitting with.
“Bad to the bone, sick as a dog
You know that I like, like you a lot
Don’t let it stop”
Neville felt his own lips curl up into a smile at the sight of the one that belonged to the angel in front of him. However the cute moment didn’t last long cause once again, Ron chimed in with something else.
“Neville? Bad? He still sleeps in pajama sets!” he exclaimed quietly, earning a ‘shh!’ from Harry. The boy in question leaned forward, looking at his ginger friend.
“Is this really coming from the boy who needs Mummy’s howler to fall asleep at night?” that shut him right up. Harry snorted, high fiving him for bringing up the embarrassing piece of information. 
The girl continued to sing, eyes never leaving Neville’s for a second. Ron and Seamus’s petty comments had ceased as well. Even though they weren’t the one receiving attention, they could still admit the girl had pipes on her. When the song was over she stood up, bowing as the silence of the crowd quickly erupted in cheers and claps from the breathtaking performance. There were a few more people left but no one paid much mind to them. He found himself feeling bad for them. Even if they were good, none of them could top the performance of the night. 
As the night began to come to a close, (Y/n) found herself over to Neville again parking herself in his lap which he gladly accepted. She looked up at him, smiling shyly. It was almost comedic due to the words she had so sinfully sung to him only 45 minutes ago. Neville ignored the way his friends gawked at him. He’d deal with that another time.
“Come back to my room and split a spliff?” she asked, looking down as she picked at her fingers. He grabbed her hands, leaning in close to her.
“Only if I can eat your pussy afterwards.” he said confidently. He said it quiet enough to not draw attention but just loud enough that his friends would hear. (Y/n) felt her face grow warm as she nodded, hopping up from his lap as she dragged him off to her room.

Extra:
“Seriously?! Is it really that easy? What does he have that I don’t?” Seamus said, mind running over the times he’d attempted saying things like that. The only place it had gotten him was on the ground after he had his balls kicked!
“It’s gotta be the weed. After all, who wouldn’t wanna sleep with the weed man? Free pot!” Ron exclaimed, trying to rationalize what had just happened.
“Aren’t you the residential booze man of Hogwarts? If that was the case, you’d have an easier time with women too.” Dean said, causing Harry to nod in agreement. Ron simply grumbled, slamming his empty bottle down as he walked off from the cackling group of blokes.

you see izzie — and no one else — waiting for you when you head out of the terminal at lax.
‘hey elsa,’ she says, giving you a hug when you open your arms, even though you’re a little confused. ‘casey’s in the bathroom,’ she rushes to explain, rolling her eyes fondly. ‘they had like six la croixs today, even though i said it was a bad idea, and —‘
you don’t really process much else because then casey is barreling into you, even though ever facetime call has ended abruptly with an adamant refusal to return any sentiment about missing each other. ‘hey mom,’ casey says into your shoulder, and when you back up you have to smile at the sun-kissed freckles and cutoff shorts fraying at the hem, even though it’s february and snowing in connecticut. casey looks happy, and links hands with izzie, who tries to take your suitcase for you before you glare at casey, who sighs and takes it instead.

you’ve visited before; you helped both of them move into their dorms, and then you’d flown out with doug for a weekend in october. casey and izzie came home for thanksgiving and winter break, but you have some miles saved up now and casey hadn’t sounded too annoyed at the idea of you visiting for a few days to get out of the cold. they drop your things off at the hotel you booked near campus, and then izzie levels casey with a look and then says, ‘i have to meet with a group for a midterm presentation, but i’ll see you for dinner.’
you give her a hug and she kisses casey easily, quickly, and says, ‘i love you,’ far too seriously for an afternoon apart. you don’t know what’s going on but you think back to what izzie had said earlier — not about casey drinking too many la croixs; listening to rules has never been a strong suit, after all — but, you think, if you were listening, maybe izzie didn’t say her, which might mean—
‘let’s go to the palisades,’ casey says, then starts to ramble nervously about how they’re closer to the west side than laguna or manhattan but not as crowded as the pier, and who wants to be around that many tourists anyway, and there’s a little cafe if you wanted some snacks. you listen patiently and agree to any plans, because it’s a beautiful day and you don’t, actually, want to drive that much in la traffic or be by so many tourists. eventually casey runs out of things to say and turns on the radio to some music you don’t know but honestly don’t think is half bad. the windows are down and the sun is bright and you’ve been to pflag meetings in new haven for over a year now; you think you’ll knock it out of the park if casey tells you anything.
you do stop by the cafe, which is cute, and pick up a few snacks. casey had packed a big beach blanket, one you’d given as a joint gift to izzie and casey for christmas, which makes you smile. casey’s hands are shaking, a little, though, and so you don’t mention that it was, in fact, a great present that apparently they use all the time, according to izzie, who always politely and enthusiastically returns your texts and calls with all sorts of updates.
you sit down in the warm sand near the water and you know casey; sometimes, you just have to wait it out.
‘so.’
‘hmmm.’
casey fiddles with the edge of the blanket and then with some of the fruit you got at the cafe, before staring straight ahead at the waves. ‘i’m, uh. whew. well.’
you don’t laugh, will your body not to. instead, you squeeze casey’s hand, just once.
‘i’m just your kid, okay?’
you sit with that for a moment, try to process what you think casey is saying, but you don’t want to get anything wrong or jump to conclusions. ‘today, at the airport, izzie said they, when referring to you.’
casey sits for a second, shoulders tense all the way up toward the sky, and then says, ‘oh.’
‘i don’t think she was even thinking about it.’ casey nods. ‘but, is that what you’re talking about?’
casey sighs. ‘yeah. i guess. is that — is that okay?’
‘of course it’s okay,’ you say, because it definitely is okay, and also it’s not the most shocking news you’ve heard. casey hasn’t wanted anything to do with femininity, really, for as long as you can remember; you’ve grown used to, and proud, so often, of having a queer child — and another bonus queer child, too, which is what you consider izzie now, no matter what.
casey sniffles and then leans into your shoulder. ‘i know you’re, like, bursting with questions.’
you laugh, just a little, and feel a small smile against your skin. ‘not if you don’t want to answer them.’
‘depends on the questions.’
‘do you have any term you like, or any concept or something? i’ve been doing a lot of reading, and i’ve met a lot of other parents in pflag who have children who are also gender non-conforming, and—‘
‘whoa, slow your roll,’ casey says, but seems to deflate a little in relief. ‘non binary is fine, i guess. i’m just — not a girl. i’m just casey.’
that makes you smile. ‘your name is still casey, then?’
it produces an eye roll but then a begrudging, ‘it’s a good name. i like my name,’ so you’ll take it as a win.
‘i have great taste.’
‘ugh.’
‘you use they/them pronouns?’
‘yeah,’ casey says. ‘but, like, it’s okay if you don’t always get them right or whatever.’
‘no, it’s not,’ you say gently. ‘i’ll try really hard. i’ll get them right. it’s important.’
that produces a fresh round of tears that they try to dismiss by saying the sun is really bright and they have a hangover, which you know is false because casey had been asleep by 9 last night after an all-nighter and cross country the day before. but you let them have it, eat a few grapes and then toss one their way.
it elicits a reluctant laugh but it works all the same. ‘izzie corrects people all the time so she’ll love you more than she already does.’
‘i’m so glad you brought my favorite child into my life.’
‘wow, thanks elsa,’ casey deadpans, but then digs their hand into the sand and smiles. ‘izzie’s been so awesome, with all of this. i really love her.’
‘i know you do,’ you say with a smile, pat their hand.
‘and i’ll tell sam and dad eventually, but i want to tell them in person because sam won’t care, i’m sure, but dad is… you know.’
‘he loves you,’ you assure them. ‘i won’t say anything, of course.’
they look at you suspiciously.
you hold your hands up. ‘i swear i won’t. i know i love to meddle but i would never out you.’
casey sighs and nods. ‘i believe you,’ they say. ‘but, for the record, meddling is your most toxic trait.’
‘yeah, yeah.’
‘i don’t really want to talk about this anymore,’ they say quietly after a few moments. ‘it stresses me out, sometimes.’
‘okay. any time you want or need, though.’
they nod. ‘love you, mom.’
‘love you, casey.’
they pop up off the blanket, then, which whips sand into your face and all the food, and then take off toward the waves, laughing. you let them have a little space for a moment, watching your brave child chase off into the surf, fearless as always.

you take izzie to lunch the next day; casey has class during that time and you like to spend time with izzie anyway. she sits straight and proper but you see how she’s relaxed a little too, here, maybe getting to have a childhood for the first time ever. her hair is long and perpetually wavy from her runs by the ocean, and her eyes are bright.
‘thank you,’ she says, ‘for being so good with casey yesterday. they told me that you were awesome.’
‘casey, my child, said those words about me?’
izzie laughs, delicately takes a bite of her quinoa bowl, then shrugs. ‘not those words exactly. but they meant it. and they were so happy this morning, like a weight was lifted or something. i told them they didn’t need to be that anxious to tell you or anything but it’s been a process, you know. i think it’s been hard for a while.’
‘they like to let things stew, don’t they?’
izzie huffs. ‘it’s the worst.’
‘welcome to my world.’
‘casey is… quite the person, that’s for sure.’
‘thank you, too, izzie. for loving them so completely.’
izzie blushes, looks down at her hands. ‘impossible not to, i think.’
you think back to all the times casey has driven you up the wall over the years, the tantrums and fights, and then reach out to squeeze izzie’s hand. ‘impossible not to,’ you agree.

casey and izzie come home for spring break, and casey is pacing around and so you order food, send izzie to go get it, who thanks you quietly with a little squeeze to your shoulder.
you sit down on the couch and make sure that sam and doug are actually paying attention and then casey sighs.
‘is this an intervention?’ sam asks when casey doesn’t say anything. ‘i don’t know who it would be for.’
casey sighs again. ‘it’s not an intervention.’
‘okay,’ sam says, ‘good.’
casey tries to still their hands on their thighs and then says, ‘i’m not a girl. or a boy. or anything else, really, i guess. uh, if that makes sense.’
doug looks genuinely baffled but sam just nods.
‘there are many animals that don’t fit into a gender or sex binary. most commonly, it’s referred to as sequential hermaphroditism.’
casey nods contemplatively and your heart warms a little.
‘one of my friends is trans,’ he says, then takes out his notebook. ‘what are your name and pronouns?’
you can tell casey is trying not to cry, but they just clear their throat. ‘uh, casey, and they/them pronouns.’
sam writes something in his notebook and then nods. ‘got it. sibling? is that okay?’
casey is really trying not to cry now. ‘that’s great, sam.’
‘cool,’ he says. ‘is that all?’
‘oh, uh, yeah,’ casey says, ‘thanks, sam.’
‘sure, i’m just glad this wasn’t an intervention,’ he says, then stands and leaves the room without another word.
casey is smiling but then they turn to really look at doug, who has a furrowed brow.
‘i’m sorry, case,’ he says, which might not be the best start, but you’re fully prepared to jump in anytime they need. ‘i don’t — i don’t understand fully.’
he doesn’t sound angry, and he gets up to sit by them on the couch, squeezes their shoulder once.
‘i love you, though, and i guess, uh. you’re my kid. i just want you to be safe and happy. i’ll try to learn, okay?’
casey swallows once, and then again, and then hugs doug tight. ‘please never quote this, and only remember it for your sake and not mine, but mom knows a lot. she can definitely help explain stuff.’
you beam and doug nods. casey rolls their eyes.
’not now, though,’ they say. ‘izzie’s back with the food.’ they flash their phone. ‘she’s just been waiting outside until we were done talking. elsa, i see what you did there.’
‘you’re welcome.’
‘that pizza better not have pineapple or else i’m taking back everything i just said.’
‘extra pineapple, believe it or not.’
casey stomps off, and then makes a little noise of satisfaction from the kitchen when they discover that, in fact, you had actually ordered pepperoni. you hear izzie laugh.
‘so… we don’t have a daughter anymore?’ doug asks, quietly. ‘that’s not what i should call …’
‘them,’ you supply. ‘casey is our child,’ you say firmly, ‘they’re just casey.’
he takes a deep breath and then nods. ‘okay.’
‘we can practice. i’ve been practicing.’
doug looks relieved. ‘okay, good.’ he waits a beat and then laughs, just once. ‘you know, of all the things casey has ever come to us with, even though i don’t understand the details, really, this might be the one that makes the most sense.’
you smile, lace your fingers together. ‘i thought the same thing.’

when casey and izzie come home for a few weeks in the summer before preseason training begins, casey has a few more tattoos and a buzzcut and the biggest smile you’ve ever seen. izzie is in a crop top and long, flowing skirt and they’re both as enamored with each other as always, sweet and considerate and happy. you make peace with it all, because casey is kinder by the day, it seems, even to you.
zahid comes over one night and smiles and says, ‘sick shoes,’ to casey and leaves it at that, even though earlier you had told them that you thought they looked like geriatric shoes — not even in jest, you were worried about arch support or something — and izzie had laughed and casey had spluttered, ‘they’re jordans.’
it’s not hard to realize, as the weeks pass, that casey is better than they’d ever been; you’d read that a lot of trans and non binary teams have a really hard time during puberty, especially, and casey had been going through so much on top of trying to process this part of their identity. you fight the urge to wish you had known more then, even though they’re healthy and thriving now, it seems.
they get everyone to help organize a slip n slide in the backyard made with tarps and soap and water, and it’s genuinely hilarious when they set up an obstacle course. for two division i athletes, casey and izzie do terribly, falling all over each other and getting bubbles everywhere. you’re pretty sure casey is wearing a binder instead of a swimsuit or sports bra, and when they finally finish their ridiculous game, they lie back on the grass with izzie.
they’re both breathing hard and laughing periodically, not really talking. you bring them popsicles and it’s been a while since you’ve seen casey look this young.

things settle.
you miss your kids, of course, but they seem very genuinely happy. but one night in the fall, you’re just sitting down with a glass of nice merlot, ready to watch the newest episode of the bachelor even though casey relentlessly tells you it’s ‘misogynist garbage’ — which you know, obviously, but it’s mindless — when your phone rings.
it’s casey, and casey never really calls you for a good reason, and your heart jumps in your chest. you put down your wine and pause the tv.
‘case?’
you hear them sniffle on the other end of the line.
‘what’s wrong?’
your mind runs through a million different scenarios, each worse than the last.
‘izzie’s hurt,’ they say, finally, and casey has been known to be a little dramatic so you don’t know how hurt, or what you need to do.
‘what happened, honey? what do you need from me?’
’the trainers are taking her to the hospital for an mri right now but they think she tore her achilles in practice today. i don’t — she was running next to me, just intervals, and then i heard a pop and then she was screaming and — can you come? i’m sorry. they think she might need surgery, i guess, and, i just. please? can you come?’
you put down your wine and walk to your laptop. ‘i’ll look up flights right now, case. i’ll be there as soon as i can, okay?’
they let out what you can tell is a very relieved breath. ‘okay.’
‘i found one that can get me there tomorrow morning. i’ll find a hotel and keep you updated.’
‘mom,’ they say, ‘thank you.’
‘i love you, and i love izzie.’ it’s firm, but you mean it like that: there is no question; you will be there. ‘i’ll see you both soon.’

izzie does need surgery, you find out by the next morning when you uber from the airport to the hospital. casey is hunched over in a hoodie, trying to stay awake with a cup of coffee, but izzie smiles sleepily and happily when you come into the room quietly.
‘i’m high,’ she says, giggling a little.
casey rolls their eyes, clearly exhausted, but gets up to hug you tight. izzie squeezes your hand back when you kiss her cheek.
‘you didn’t need to come,’ she says suddenly, a little furrow to her brow.
‘of course i did.’
her lower lip starts to wobble and casey rolls their eyes but huffs a little laugh anyway. it’s an uncharacteristically chilly, rainy day outside and it’s surprisingly easy to convince casey to go back to the dorm to shower and nap for a few hours before they come back in the afternoon. izzie mostly sleeps, but you take careful notes when the surgeon comes to speak to you, because izzie really is out of it and, although they promise to come back and explain things later, you don’t want them to be missing any information. plus, they always process information better when it’s written down anyway.
izzie eventually gets discharged and has to come back a few days later for surgery. you have savings, so you’re lucky enough that you can stay for a bit. izzie is groggy but gets to have an outpatient procedure, and you help casey get her situated back in her dorm afterward. she has a big padded boot on her foot and ankle but you picked up pain medication for her and so she mostly sleeps. casey settles in next to izzie on the small bed and kisses her forehead, then looks at you, eyes big. their hair has grown out so that it falls floppily over their brows; it makes them look young and you have to fight to not want to kiss their forehead or hold their hand.
‘just — thank you, mom.’

you leave after a few days because izzie is doing better, taking just tylenol and very coherently getting around fine on crutches and so therefore casey has relaxed as well, their easy smiles back and their posture relaxed, slouched like normal.
they both come to see you off at the airport, casey doting carefully and izzie swatting away any attempts. you kiss izzie’s forehead and then do the same to casey, even though they fake gag.
within a few weeks, izzie is walking again, tenderly at first but then without any pause. casey actually gives you studious updates about her recovery; from what you can tell, they go to every physical therapy session they can possibly make it to. you know izzie has gone to therapy for years, now, and all of the drama from when she and casey first started dating seems to have faded into the background. but injuries are difficult, you think — scary and painful, especially because of what running has been to izzie. but eventually she sends you a selfie of the two of them by the beach, clearly having just run, with fly away hair and casey’s cheeks flushed red, huge smiles squinting into the sun.

a year passes, full of holidays and casey complaining about finals and izzie sending you pictures of pies she tries to bake in the tiny dorm kitchen. they run; sometimes when you’re pretty sure they’re a little high, casey will facetime you just to say hello. you and doug help them move into a small duplex together at the beginning of junior year, a bright sunny kitchen and the breeze from the ocean floating through the windows.
casey takes you to get coffee when they visit for thanksgiving — so you know something’s up, because they would never voluntarily spend time alone with you unless they really needed to talk — and when you sit down they smile at you, gently and openly, a rare occasion, and say, ‘i’m gonna have top surgery in the spring.’
you’re not surprised, and you’ve done casey’s laundry enough times when they’ve visited that you know they’ve been wearing a binder most days; you know they love being an athlete, and izzie has sent you enough articles about non-binary athletes in women’s leagues that you know casey has a place in sport.
that this surgery is happening, though, is a little different. you feel scared, because casey is your child, but mostly you feel excited for them. relieved for them.
‘that’s so wonderful, casey,’ you say, and they blink just once and then a grin lights up their face.
they tell you about their surgeon, and the type of surgery they’re going to have, how izzie has gone with them but how, they admit, they would love if you facetimed in for their next pre-op appointment in a few months.
‘can you help me explain it to dad? sam and i already talked, to be honest, because he asked me. which is, like, inappropriate from anyone else, but he’s sam, so it was mostly just so he could research statistics and stuff.’
you laugh, squeeze their hand. ‘i’ll help, absolutely.’

you go out to la a few months after casey’s surgery with doug and sam; everything had gone well and casey had cried in joy and relief when they’d seen their chest afterward for the first time, which had set izzie off, which had set you off too. you’re pretty sure doug had even sniffled.
when you’d left, though, they still had bandages and bruising but now it’s almost the beginning of their senior year and when you go to the beach they take their shirt off and then shove sam into the sand with a laugh. sam grumbles but gets up to dust himself off, izzie rolling her eyes as she helps you set out the blanket.
casey races off into the surf, turning back and yelling at all of you to come join them. you always have; you do.

Summary: Five years. That's how long the reader and Bucky have been apart (although for him, it was only five minutes) Now with Thanos defeated and both of them taking up the mantle of Avengers, can their relationship return to what it was? Or will they have to discover a new normal?
Pairings: Bucky Barnes x fem! enhanced! super-soldier! Reader (Reader can see pieces of the future in visions as well as speak every language)

The text comes when she’s in the middle of teaching English feminine and masculine pronouns. Immediately, she knows it’s something important. There’s a very limited amount of people she’s allowed to filter through the “do not disturb” status she sets her phone in while she’s in the classroom. Her first though is Barnes, but at this point, he’s memorized her schedule even more thoroughly than she has, so it’s unlikely he’s responsible for the disturbance. Pepper, maybe? But no, she’s a powerful enough woman that if she needed anything, she could simply ask and it would be hers. Peter? It’s within normal high school hours, so if he’s messaging her, she’ll give him a lecture next time she sees him for texting in class. That only leaves one person, or rather, organization. As she instructs her students to come up with a few examples of common words which can be said different ways to demonstrate masculine and feminine, then takes a moment to check her phone, her suspicions are confirmed. Rhodes. The Avengers.
“You guys keep working. That’s an example of an English masculine. Now what would the feminine be?” A chorus of ‘gals’ follows her out the door. Once she’s rounded the corner, she dials the number, completely skipping the texting process. The line only rings once before Rhodey answers.
“Hello?”
“Soothsayer. What is it?”
“You need to come in. We’ve got a mission, and it has to be you.” She lets out a silent groan before asking,
“How much time have I got to square things away at work?”
“Wheel’s up in ninety minutes. You need to be here at least fifteen before to read over your orders.” Her boss isn’t going to be happy, but it’s doable.
“Right. I think I just got a crippling migraine. I’ll call you back later.”
“Thanks. I owe you one.”
“You’re damn right.” She mutters it as the line goes dead.
Thirty minutes later, she’s on her way after giving the sub her notes and her boss a bullshit excuse. So far, no one’s worked out that she’s one of the people who fought in the battle against Thanos, and she hopes to keep it that way.
She speeds across the city, driving a little faster than is responsible, but her reflexes are fast enough to cover for it. If this is going to be the sort of mission where they need her brawn as well as her brains, she’d like a few minutes to warm up before she has to hop on a quinjet. Grabbing her go-bag (complete with weapons, her suit, and a set of spare cosmetics), she jumps out of the car as soon as it’s parked in front of the newly rebuilt Avengers compound. Warm up, and make a call to-
“Well, look who the cat dragged in.” She turns her head towards the voice, catching sight of Sam and-
“What’d you tell them? Stomach flu?” Barnes. Okay, maybe she won’t have to call him after all, but that brings up more questions than answers.
“Migraine.” She falls into step next to him while Sam rushes on ahead. “They called you too, huh?”
He nods, grimacing. “Looks like it’s something big.” Obviously. If they’ve called in both him and Sam, not just one or the other, then it’s a guarantee the situation is FUBAR. Plus her? She’s usually in the background. If she’s being pulled then-
“You alright?” She nods, smiling with more confidence than she feels.
“Yeah. Just wish I knew what we were getting into. If they want both unstable super soldiers-” It’s a joke, which thankfully, he gets.
“Then the situation must be pretty hairy.” That’s putting it lightly. They’ve never been called up together before. Never.
If the mounting evidence weren’t enough to clue her in that this is going to be major, the final factor would be, after Rhodes explains to all three of them that with the return of so many people to Earth, a former dictator who disappeared in the snap has gathered up his forces and is attempting to usurp a now-peaceful democracy in hopes of using the territory to levy compliance from surrounding nations. Usually that wouldn’t be their thing, but when the words “dirty bomb” and “gamma radiation” are brought into play, it’s no mystery as to why they’re being called in.
It’s about what she expected. Falcon is running point, Winter Soldier is the man on the grassy knoll (she shudders when Rhodey goes with that particular descriptor because of a confession several years back just after he woke up in Wakanda; “I really hope I’m remembering this wrong and it was just a dream, but I think I was behind what happened to the president.”), and she’s on evac and rescue, making sure there’s as few civilian casualties as possible. However, when the briefing is called to a close, it’s a total shock that Sam is let go while she and Barnes are told to stay back.
Rhodes sits at the edge of his desk, arms crossed, wearing his most serious expression. “You two have completed the appropriate training hours together, correct?”
“Yes.” They say it at the same time, and she has to bite her cheek to keep from yelling out, “Jinx!” It was a requirement after the defeat of Thanos that the two of them specifically learn how to work together as a team, play off of each other’s strengths, just in case something truly catastrophic happened. She also trained with Bucky and Sam as their third. What she’s wondering is, why ask a question Rhodes clearly knows the answer to? He’s the one who set up the training, after all.
“And you’re comfortable working as a squad?” She catches Bucky’s eye, and it’s clear that he’s come to the same conclusion as her: this isn’t what Rhodey is really after.
“We’re fully capable, yes.” He’s the one that answers, while she reaches out into the unknown, hoping for a vision. No dice.
With a sigh, Rhodey stands.
“What I mean is, can you be objective out there on the battlefield? Can you work together like anyone else?” This time, she’s the one to speak up.
“Can we be objective? Yes. Can we work together like anyone else? No, but that was your goal with the training program.”
“You wouldn’t have called the two of us up if you didn’t need what we can do together.”
For a moment, she feels sympathy for Rhodes. The poor man is clearly struggling to make a point. That’s when it hits her, a vision of what he’s prepared for them to do. As soon as it passes, she kicks Barnes’ chair leg lightly, which is enough that he gets the message.
“Just say it, because she’s already seen it.” She wouldn’t want to be in Rhodes’ position for the world right now with the news he’s about to deliver.
“Fine.” Rhodey nods. “If we get in a tight spot, someone is going to have to draw fire. It can’t be Barnes for obvious reasons.” Part of their mission is to obtain stolen scientific data located deep inside enemy lines. She’s smaller and therefore faster, can fit into tight places more easily, but he’s been trained to go unnoticed, and what’s more, to incapacitate anyone who sees more than they should. It’s an obvious choice. She’s in essence the diversion, the boy crying wolf while the real thief makes off with the shepherds’ wallets. Her size and speed will work to her advantage, as well as the fact that they won’t recognize her, so they won’t know right away that she’s the decoy, whereas the second they have eyes on him or Sam, they’ll know to batten down the hatches.
She doesn’t have to look beside her to know what he thinks of that idea. She can practically feel him seething. But, it’s a scenario that, along with Sam, they’ve trained for.
“What I need to know is that, once the bullets start flying, you won’t fall back on instinct and run to protect each other. Out there, you are not a couple. You’re teammates, fellow soldiers, nothing more. Got it?”
She keeps her eyes focused on Rhodey’s face as she nods, otherwise hers will show what she’s feeling. “Agreed.”
“Barnes?” There’s a pause, so long she’s about to kick his chair leg again just to get a reaction.
“Understood.”
“Good.” Rhodes’ posture immediately changes. “Now, suit up. Quinjet is leaving at 1300 hours.”

“Oh!” Bucky looks up from the building schematics he’s studying at the surprised noise from the woman next to him. “This one’s actually not bad.”
“Which one?” He leans towards her, scanning the house listing on her phone. “Nah. I don’t like the look of that roof.”
“True, but it says here they’re willing to knock some off the asking price if we’re willing to do our own repairs-”
A groan issues from the other side of the jet.
“Are you two really searching realtor.com while we’re on our way to save the world?” Sam asks, scowling.
“No, of course not.” She shakes her head, smirking. “It’s zillow.” That reminds him-
“Scroll down. Let’s see when it was built.” It looks like… ah. “Hard no. That thing’s older than me.”
“And like you, it has character.” It’s too good of an opportunity to pass up. He sees an opening, and he’s going for it.
“Did you just compare me to a house?” She snickers.
“Now that you mention it, there are some similarities. Good bones, had some renovations done, could use some landscaping-”
“You know, you could’ve just said ditch the beard.”
She gasps, clutching a hand to her chest. “I would never!”
“Alright, I’m gonna stop you there.” Sam holds up a hand. “If you’re gonna talk about his hair anywhere below the neck, I’m gonna open up the hatch and jump out.” It would be a more effective threat if he wasn’t already wearing his wings.
“Mind out of the gutter, Sam.” She half-heartedly scolds before returning to examine her phone. “The market is just shit right now but there’s got to be something listed that’s less expensive than renting an apartment in the middle of Brooklyn…” That’s what all of this is about, really. After the snap (at least from what he’s read) the price of renting was lower than it had been since the fifties. Now that everything is back to normal, everyone and their mother is looking for a place to rent. Not that he can blame them. He’s one of the returned, after all.
“I guess we could move into the complex once it’s repaired. Just for a little while-”
“Nope.” Sam cuts them off. “Hell no. It’s enough that I gotta deal with you and Judge Dredd here being all domestic on missions. If I have to hear you two going at it, I’m gonna lose my shit.”
He may not understand the pop culture reference, but he caught the sexual one. The truth is, they haven’t slept together since he returned. It’s not like things have been platonic; they shower together, cuddle, and make out like teenagers walking down lovers’ lane. However, five years is a long time (even if for him, it was barely more than an instant), and while he’s ready to resume their sex life, he’s not going to push in case she’s not there yet.
Before he can go too far down that rabbit hole, the intercom crackles to life and their pilot announces that it’s time for the drop. He’s not a huge fan of parachuting (falling to his near death and losing an arm sort of took the magic out for him), but he calls on what remains of his training now that HYDRA’s brainwashing has been deactivated and puts on an emotionless front.
“Com links on.” As Sam speaks, he activates his own com. “Everyone getting a signal?” He is, and if the face she just made is anything to judge from so is she. “Okay. I drop first, then on my mark, Winter Soldier drops; five seconds later, Soothsayer follows. Copy?”
“Copy.”
“Copy.”
Sam shoots them a grin that doesn’t completely hide his nerves. “Good luck.”
As soon as his partner’s exited the plane, he catches her eye. “Love you. See you on the other side.”
“Love you. Come back in one piece.”

Even before Sam hits the ground, he knows it’s going to be a shit show. Even though he doesn’t activate his com to tell them as much, it’s obvious as the super soldier plummets past him that his chute didn’t open. Sam might worry about this if it weren’t for the fact he saw Steve jump out of many a plane without anything to keep him from free falling. Their tag-along, however? She has activated her coms (either that or she forgot to deactivate them) and she lets out a gasp. That’s all, a gasp, but it’s enough to put Sam on edge. This is why coupling up is dangerous in this line of work. Your affection can work to your disadvantage.
Because he can’t have his team scattered, worrying about each other, he asks, “Barnes, do you copy?”
“Copy, Falcon. Don’t think I’ll be doing that again.”
“Oh, you are so getting shit for that when we get home.” He rolls his eyes.
“Let’s cut the chitchat. We have a mission. On my mark, Soothsayer heads into the encampment to lead any P.O.W.s and civilians away. Copy?”
“Copy.”
“Copy.”
He lands just before she does, and as soon as she’s detached her shoot, he gives her the go ahead.
Any thought that they might have succeeded in having the element of surprise on their side goes out the window when a shot whizzes past his head.
“Barnes, cover me.”
“Copy.”
Even with the rain of bullets from his own personal sniper, he barely gets past the first defensive line in one piece. He takes out at least a dozen hostiles, incapacitating when he can, eliminating where he must. Just outside the main fortress, he asks,
“Come in, Winter Soldier. How many hostiles between you and my position?”
“Eighteen.” A muffled shot follows the statement. “Seventeen.”
“Alright. Clear a path. Let’s show these sons of bitches what they get when they threaten innocent lives.”
He thinks that maybe they’ll be able to turn it around when they find their human target fairly easily and are able to capture and incapacitate. The orders, however, were not just to bring him in alive but also to seize the assets they’ve lost before a bomb squad and team of radiation specialists comes in and sweep the place. The only way he’ll be able to get their target back to the jet unharmed (not to mention survive himself) is if they do the one thing he was hoping it wouldn’t come to.
“Soothsayer, this is Falcon. Come in. Over.”
“Copy, Falcon.”
“Winter Soldier is going in. Deploy “big bad wolf” initiative.” In other words, go get shot at while at the same time covering me.
“Copy. Be advised, there are hostages in the building. I repeat, hostages in the building. Over.” For a moment he wonders if she saw it in a vision or if one of the people she’s just helped escaped has started talking out of gratitude, but pushes it to the side. He has biggest issues.
“Winter Soldier, Soothsayer, get into place. On my signal, we move.”
“Copy.”
“Copy.”
“Three… two… one… go!”
Sam kicks off into the air, thanking whoever the hell out there invented this tech that he doesn’t have to fly with an extra 250 pounds of dictator in his arms (Redwing is handling that). Out of the corner of his eye, he catches Soothsayer making a run for it, shooting as she goes. Where the hell did she get the gun? Problems for later.
He’s just about to radio into the jet to see if the ‘package’ was delivered when the shots turn in his direction. He returns fire at the same time a dagger flies past his head.
“Throw it a little closer next time Soothsayer. I dare you.” It’s muttered under his breath.
“So you wanted a sniper’s bullet in your back?” Damned super hearing.
“Aren’t you supposed to be causing a distraction?”
“I am. Close your eyes and cover your ears.” He complies just in time for the flashbang to go off over his head.
“Fuck! You could’ve told me that’s what you were doing!” There’s no reply. “Soothsayer?” A grunt followed by the sound of impact comes over the com.
“Little busy. Hold up.” Hand to hand, if he had to venture a guess. More shots are fired, and he flies lower, returning them, kicking a few assailants in the head as he goes.
“Winter Soldier, this is Falcon. Come in.”
“I read you.”
“Do you have eyes on the target?”
“Almost there. There’s a few more obstacles than we thought.”
“Copy. Over and-” He doesn’t get to finish the sentence as a yell of “Get down!” pierces the night.
It all happens in slow motion. He reaches for the shield, but he can already hear the gun discharge. A force runs into him, knocking him to the ground. Realization hits him: it’s her. He doesn’t see the bullet impact, but he hears her cry out. On instinct, he covers both of their vital organs with the shield, and that’s when he sees the splotch of red blooming from her right shoulder, which so happens to have acted as a human barrier, blocking what would have most assuredly have been a kill shot to the head for him.
“Falcon, Soothsayer, come-” There’s a muffled shout over the com, followed by more sickening thuds and a few shots.
“Barnes?” He hears a whisper of movement from behind him, and without looking, fires. “Barnes, do you copy?” As he speaks, several hostiles gang up on him at once. Using the shield to it’s full advantage, he knocks two off their feet, kicks another in the gonads, then chin, and punches two more’s lights out. He starts on the one that’s left, but out of nowhere, the hostile’s legs go out from under him. What-
“This is Barnes. I have the target. Moving hostages out now.”
Sam opens his mouth to speak again, but a tug at his ankle draws his attention. She’s sitting up, features drawn in pain and still bleeding, her fist bloody from the last hostile’s face.
“Don’t tell Barnes.”
Internally groaning, he speaks again. “Copy. Meet us back at the ship. Over and out.” Grabbing her good arm, he hauls her to her feet and drapes her body over his shoulder. “Pretty sure the blood’s gonna tip him off. And the bullet hole.”

“It’s not that bad.” This has to be the tenth time she’s repeated that sentiment in the past five minutes since arriving back at the quinjet, and yet it’s still not making an impression. As she stands yet again, Sam gives her good shoulder a hard push.
“Sit your serum-ed up ass down. You’re gonna bleed out if-” She narrows her eyes at the man with the shield. “Fine. You’re still dripping blood everywhere.” Yeah, well, it’s not like it hit a major vein or artery. She saw it coming, after all. Still… it fucking hurts.
“Shouldn’t you be hailing Barnes again?”
“Who’s in charge here? You or me?” She thinks about snapping back with something truly brutal, but bites her tongue. “Only thing you should be worrying about is how we’re gonna get that slug out of you.”
“Give me a pair of pliers and I’ll do it myself.”
“The hell you will.”
“Oh, for fuck’s sake! It’s-” Before she can repeat herself again, the door opens. Her breath seizes in her throat a she takes in Barnes’ appearance. Dear God.
“Target acquired?” Sam nods and motions towards the back of the plane.
“What about you? Package secure?” With a thump, a black bag is dropped onto the floor between them. Sam opens his mouth (more than likely to make a sarcastic remark about being careful with the brain child of at least a dozen scientists worldwide), but before he can-
“You’re hit.” He’s in front of her, crossing the narrow space in just two strides.
Biting back a wince, she stares pointedly at the oozing bullet wound in his thigh. “So are you.”
“It’s nothing.” She’s about to call bullshit (that’s a fuck ton of blood, and also she doesn’t remember that cut on his forehead last time she saw him), but he turns away, fixing Sam with a hard stare. “Why didn’t you say we had a man down?”
“Not a man-” She starts.
“And technically, she never went completely down. Plus-” She knows what he’s going to say, and mouths a silent ‘Don’t’, which Sam ignores. “-she told me not to.” There it is. She’s never gonna hear the end of this.
Returning his gaze to her, he asks, “You told him-”
“It wasn’t a big deal. Can we talk about this later?”
“I second that.” Sam nods. “Preferably when you’re not both about to bleed out in the air.” Bucky’s lips twitch momentarily, and she barely contains her own smirk. They’re not about to bleed out. Still-
“You want to go first with the pliers, or do you want me to?”
“For the last time, no one is using pliers to go spelunking for bullets. Aren’t you two supposed to be smart?” She raises an eyebrow in Bucky’s direction, and he smirks.
“Technically, I think the serum just turned us into better soldiers. Not geniuses.”
“Right, and since it would take us what?” She glances at her phone, checking the time. “Five hours to get home? More than likely we would’ve already started to heal pretty significantly around the bullet and would have to disrupt that so they could dig them out.”
“So, pliers.” She nods.
“Pliers.”
With a groan, Sam stands and, digging around in the compartment overhead, produces a first aid kit.
“Fine, but if either of you starts to hemorrhage, don’t come crying to me.”
Rolling her eyes at his retreating back, she asks, “The question still stands. You want to be the surgeon first or the patient?”
“That depends.” Bucky motions to her own bullet wound. “Is that as bad as it looks, or worse?”
She attempts a shrug, but the motion makes her wince. “It’s just a scratch.” The look on his face tells her he’s not convinced.
“Then I guess I’ll dig yours out first. If push comes to shove, I can fix myself up.” This time, she’s with Sam. The hell he will. She’ll just power through.
“Alright.” She motions to the few members of the TACK team still hanging around. “If you don’t want to see me shirtless, I’d suggest you find somewhere else to be, or at least look away.” Shockingly few heads turn at her words. “Okay smart-asses. What I mean is give a lady some privacy and avert your eyes.” There. That’s more like it.
She’s kinda pissed off that she’ll have to junk the suit. It was a new one. Even more infuriating is that when she goes to unzip it, thanks to her injured shoulder she can’t manage it, and what’s worse, she lets out a groan of pain.
“Easy. Let me help.” If they were alone, she’d make an off-colored joke (something along the lines of “any excuse to get me undressed”), but she swallows it down and grits her teeth as the material tugs at her wound. She’s just going to have to toughen up and rip it off like a band-aide.
“I think there’s a water bottle somewhere, so we could soak-” Bracing herself, she gives the material a sharp tug, completely exposing herself. “-or you could just do it the hard way.”
“After all these years, why would I start doing things the easy way now?” She feels more than hears the short intake of breath that signals a laugh.
“Good point. Hold tight while I check the kit.” Taking advantage of the brief lull, she closes her eyes. She’s not exactly squeamish, but there’s something about seeing a bullet lodged in her shoulder that’s somewhat unsettling. “Alright. This is gonna sting, and then it’s gonna hurt like a son of a bitch.”
“Don’t threaten me with a good time.” That one earns her an actual snicker.
Sure enough, it does sting. That is, if by “sting” you meant “feels like I scrubbed myself with a sandpaper washcloth and then rinsed off with vodka.” Still, she manages to keep still and wipe any expression of pain from her face as the disinfectant is poured on, completely soaking her.
“Sorry.” She shakes her head.
“Nothing a towel won’t take care of.”
He’s in front of her now, so she opens her eyes, concentrating hard on his face so she won’t look down.
“You alright?” It’s completely false, but she pastes on a smile.
“Splendid. Thinking of taking this up as a hobby, actually.” He frowns.
“You couldn’t just take up embroidery like a normal person?”
“No one-” Her breath catches as he starts to probe for the bullet. It was a distraction. “-takes up embroidery as a hobby anymore.” Deep breaths. She needs to take deep breaths.
“Shit.” Shit? That’s not comforting. “Do you want the good news first or the bad news?”
“Dealer’s choice.”
“Good news, it’s in one piece. Bad news-” He looks up, holding her gaze. “It’s lodged pretty far in there, Doll.” Of course it is. Just her luck. “Do you want to wait ‘til we get home, or-”
“Just do it.” Once more, she closes her eyes. “Sooner we get it out, sooner the super soldier mojo can do it’s thing.”
“You sure?” She nods.
“Just do me a favor. Don’t tell me when you start pulling it out. I don’t want to know.”
It’s silent, no one saying a word. Still, she clings to the little sounds she can make out in order to keep herself occupied. The engine running. The air filtration system. Her own jagged breaths and his measured ones. Despite her attempts at distraction, she can feel it the moment he starts easing the bullet out of her shoulder. On instinct her body seizes up, and she has to force herself to relax each muscle. It’ll only be more painful if she’s tense.
“Do you want something to squeeze? Maybe a hand to hold?”
Taking a slow, deep breath, she answers.
“That depends. How much do you like that arm?” If she takes out the pain on anything else, she’s almost certain she’d crush it.
“I’m sort of attached to it, so-” She chuckles, and that’s when the bullet slides free. “And, next time you make fun of my corny jokes, I get to remind you of this.”
The patching up process is simple from there. The bleeding is easily staunched and although it’s in an awkward place, they manage to bandage her without much trouble. She’s so nervous, she expects her hands to shake as she takes her turn and, with her good arm, digs the bullet out of Barnes (his is in fragments but luckily, a vision hits and shows her the shards’ locations), but surprisingly, her hands are steady. She glances up at his face just as she pulls the last shard out, but of course, he’s shut down, completely expressionless.
Finally, the quinjet touches down outside of what used to be the Avengers’ compound. Normally they would disembark, then head straight off to a debriefing, but under the circumstances, Sam calls it a night and tells them to get some rest, then come in tomorrow to go over mission reports. As they watch Falcon climb into his car and drive away, it hits her how terribly exhausted she really is. Between her bum shoulder and his bum leg, neither of them is really fit to drive home, so-
“Think we can get a cab this time of night?” Great minds think alike, it seems.
“I don’t know, but I’m willing to give it a try.”
It’s only once they’re home safely and she’s climbed into bed that she allows herself to wonder if they’re ever going to talk about today.

Your girlfriend - Blossoms (oh? oH?)
This one is interesting. There are many pronoun changes through the song. It’s hard to figure out at which point the girl goes from being “a friend who is a girl” to “girlfriend” and who is the speaker, who is the friend, and who is the girl.
“ I'm a boy And she's a girl With more charm than most movie stars So we met Through a friend We rent a place and she comes round to stay “ The first ‘we’ is the speaker and the girl, the second we is the speaker and his friend. This is when the song starts sounding like a dialogue to me: one person sings everything until before the last line, and the last line is a reply from the friend.
“ And now your girlfriend is ringing in my ears again “ There is a change here from “we met through a friend” (telling the story to someone else) vs this line, where the speaker is talking TO said friend, or perhaps following up on the dialogue theory, this is the friend replying to the speaker.
“ What am I supposed to do? I can tell, they get along so well” Is this the speaker talking about his friend and the girl, no longer talking TO the friend? I feel like this is the (mutual)friend wondering about his girl friend and the speaker.
“Is it possible, she likes me too?
I'm not sure if I should read between those lines “ This could be the speaker wondering.
“I should be moving out but can't 'cause we've just signed a lease “ (Again with the renting? Princess park? Hmm?)
“Thought maybe we'd go out for a movie And we can forget friends who'll be fuming Then I could walk you home in the evening And that's just being friendly “ This can be analysed in so many different ways depending on who’s speakig and to whom.

I heard they got engaged today “ This one is interesting, because she might have ended up together with either the friend or the speaker, and whichever one she did not end up with is referring FIRST to their buddy and then moving on to address someone else, telling the story. Also, it almost sounds as if whoever is saying this is jealous OF THE GIRL, not of the guy who is with her.
Overall there is a lot to unpack with this song, mainly because of the change in pronouns and who the singer has as their audience for each line.

ANYWAYS CONCLUSION TIME, or TL;DR: There is A LOT to unpack here. All of these songs vaguely follow the same theme. There’s a lot of breaking up going on, as well as moving on and third parties being involved. There’s stuff about being controlled, not being enough, wanting to be yourself, There’s references to Louis’ songs, to Harry’s songs, to 1D tracks, to Larry, to Elounor, you name it. This playlist is definitely giving us a taste of what Walls will deal with and boy is it A LOT.

      °✧。× :  (  lee felix +  demiboy  +  he/they  )  ───  oh, look, i’m pretty sure that’s SAGE RUAIRI ! you know, the NINETEEN year old harvest sprite ? they’re a PLANT SPRITE, by the look of them. a bunch of them were helping to welcome new residents, and i’m pretty sure i heard that one say they might also work part - time as a SHOP ASSISTANT, but i could have heard wrong. well, regardless of that, i’m almost certain that they ARE loyal to the harvest goddess, which explains why they’re so ENDEARING and OPTIMISTIC, but can also be a bit SENSITIVE and CLUMSY. whether they want to revive the goddess or not, if you need them i’m pretty sure you can find them at THE MAGIC SHOP most often ! dirt smudged on constellation freckled cheeks, idling for hours laying in a sunkissed field of flowers, a fluffy white cat circling ‘round ever-bare feeties ! ✧  
as far as sprites are concerned, sage is among the most mellow and sweet of them when he’s in good spirits but among the most chaotic when he’s upset. add a natural clumsiness and a lack of control over his magics when his emotions get the better of him and you’ve got yourself the wreck that is sage ruairi
young both in age and at heart, there’s a childlike innocence to the way sage presents himself. even at his full ‘human’ appearance, he’s waifish and small. he finds human clothes in general to be rather annoying and ill fitting for him as a sprite so over and above that, he’s always dressing in oversized overalls or a too-big pair of shorts with a baggy tee. 
even in the dead of winter, you’ll be hard pressed to find sage wearing shoes or socks. he does not believe in them. thinks they are vile creations invented to entrap toesies and prevent direct soil to skin contact which, naturally, is a crime
ever since he was born, sage has always been well loved. they say he sprung up from the seeded center of a sunflower. bright and engaging, he charmed everyone in his close sprite circles and still sprinkled glittery warm wishes upon those that didn’t fall immediately for his enchanting personality
some part of his loveliness was aided by a clumsy tendency not very befitting most magically enabled sorts. he’s constantly breaking things, knocking things off shelves, overgrowing plants to the point of destructing and banging his little limbs on almost every available surface (freckled skin almost always joined by healing bruises)  
basically, when he’s in a good mood he’s followed by blossoming little vines, self conjured, and yet somehow always manages to trip over them and when he’s in a bad mood, it’s somehow worse
it’s ridiculously endearing in a sitcom star kind of way and often comes with a pink blush to his cheeks and fits of musical giggles that float like dandelion fluff
the plants are all his friends and he talks to them regularly. a social sprite, if he’s not talking to someone, he’s probably whispering to the trees or telling a story to the grassy meadows. he tells them all his problems which are surprising plentiful.
he takes the sinister happenings of the island very personally, of course, feeling like the plant sprites’ touch was the first to be eradicated from the village. but instead of letting the death and destruction get to him, he’s very much single-handedly determined to bring color and life back to everything he touches. 
after all, even if there’s just one flower living and growing, isn’t that an improvement?
relationship-wise and as a general world view, sage is still somewhat immature. he’s sensitive to his emotions and tends to give into them and let them overrun his actions instead of facing them head on and getting to their source.
his most recent relationship was both his most serious and the source of his first heartbreak. while he’d had adolescent dalliances with other sprites, this one was his first true love and, because of that, he got jealous often. his youth and their small age difference made him feel insecure and so they’d often get into escalating fights that made things worse and worse
respective friend groups called the pairing unhealthy but, honestly, it was a showing of love every time they made up and wind met flower. still, outside pressures only made any inner tension cracks grow and eventually, they were both too stubborn to make up after a particularly explosive argument and broke things off.
when he gets too caught up in what he’s feeling, his magic tends to overflow. flowers bloom brighter and more vibrant, seeds speed up their development and everything turns lush and green when he’s exuberantly happy or extraordinarily sad. for the latter, he likes to think the new baby blooms are there to kiss his cheeks and wipe away his tears but, really, he needs to get a better hold on his own abilities
he’s kept humans at a distance for this reason. those who don’t believe obviously aren’t a threat as they don’t see him nor his showings of magic. however, the skeptics or the believers would certainly have a heyday if they happened upon a sage who has lost control so he doesn’t make it a point to make too many friendships. in fact, the one he’s closest too isn’t fully human at all, the witchy shopkeeper where he’s come to work is counted among sage’s close human(ish) circle
presently, he’s in mourning of that relationship and in the death of the island but he’s distracting himself in his work! he’s had a job as the assistant to the local cryptid magic shop owner and, despite being a total wreck at it, loves the distraction. plus he can flex his plant sprite skills in ways that benefit the shop, withchy herbs and ingredients galore!
he’s still desperately social so please give him friends and shop regulars, people with crushes on him and just plots in general!!!

FRECKLES. sage is absolutely covered in them. on his nose on his cheeks on his neck on his back. all the lil freckle constellations! he calls them his specks. sages specks!!

I think one of the best choices I made when writing my book was making Oliver trans.
Initially, he was cis and also only ten or eleven.
But I aged him up a bit and made him trans cause why the fuck not?
(Actually it was cause I was listening to Home by Cavetown and the first verse works REALLY well for Ols and the second one REALLY well for Dindet so I just made him trans to fit the stupid music video in my head T×T)
And I'm really glad I did so because now I can't really imagine him any other way(?) Which is really confusing when I try to explain it to friends and family cause I, being a respectable person and author, use he/him pronouns cause Ols is trans masc (obviously) and apparently that confuses some people??
But like, it opened up a lot of opportunities for me to chuck in some stupid trans things(tm) that I don't really see in fiction. Well, in actuality, I dont see any trans boys in fiction. Which is another reason why I wrote him to be trans =~=
Like, I know it's out there, but if it is, then its probably 98% transition biographies and I'm not interested in that stuff :/ also, Oliver as a character is a dickwad. A bitter, sad, scared and lonely and mean kid that pushes people away and is actively harmful to the people who care the most about him and its NOT because he's trans. (Its mostly because he is really bad at coping with grief)
A lot of times, when people write trans characters, the focus is either on their suffering or the suffering of their peers because "oh no its a disgusting tran"
But for Oliver, all his suffering is largely self inflicted. He is rude and hurtful and inconsiderate toward others and it consistently bites him in the ass with grave repercussions. The only times he suffers explicitly for being trans is by a girl who bullies him for that exact reason. (Well, it is slightly more complicated than that, but you get what I mean) a one time sub teacher who just doesn't give a shit, and technically when his abusive bio dad comes back into his life.
Almost everyone in the series uses proper pronouns, with seldom slip ups- usually when he isn't there to hear it, and treats him with relative respect.
And I love that making that decision granted me opportunities to write a whole chapter that functioned as friend bonding between Oliver and Dindet while also being a not so subtle message to trans youths about how things will get better. (Which kind of sucks because the end of this series is a real dousey)
And opportunities to just add in little character traits that make him just more well rounded. Like, how big dumb happy he gets when he sees his first chin hair (he names it Frank)
There are parts to his personality that sort of function like a revolving door, some of them are trans things, some are just personality type and some have to do with his grief and past and they all fit really nicely together to make this kid believable and relatively relatable.
Like, for instance, Oliver recognises that he can be rash and rude and say things without thinking- he has a habit of shooting off biting words without realizing how hurtful they might be. And part of it is obviously a form of personal detatchment- cause he's too scared to care about others in case he might get hurt or lose them. He is self conscious of how he's perceived but refuses to let anyone on to it and thus refuses any offers of assistance or affection because half of him thinks he doesn't deserve it *because* he is mean, and the other half simply doesn't trust that they mean it.
And all of it sits in top of a fear that no one actually sees him the way he sees himself, despite how many times he might be reassured of it which further prevents him from reaching out to others.
I really REALLY like the main character of my book series- if you didn't realize just yet.
And I really like the dynamic his personality has with the other characters.
For instance, my clown, Dindet is a very naive and caring character. She is unbelievably protective of people she cares about and eager to please them in any way, and she's like that because she has a deep rooted inadequacy complex that plagues every second of her existence. Her only real goal is to make Oliver happy (specifically, get rid of the emotional hole in him) so she goes out of her way to do things for him, sometimes as an apology, and others just to make him feel better. But under that kindness, she considers herself incredibly volatile, dangerous and selfish. And she is so utterly horrified by herself that she would rather lie and hide the truth than explain things.
Their dynamic works really well because Oliver, being a vindictive little shit, constantly belittles her both verbally and internally in order to get her to leave him alone, at least until he realized that she quite quickly internalizes the things he says and he starts trying to be more thoughtful.
And Dindet, being so steadfast in her singular goal, just *wont* quit. Its unstoppable force meets immovable object and one of them is bound to give.
And then there's Oliver and Douglass <3
Douglass is an all around good kid with a good heart. He is friendly and relatively well mannered, sort of awkward and somewhat hyper aware of his interpersonal relationships. He knew Oliver before he started transition, and they had been friends before Oliver's mom died. He is incredibly loyal and kind and understanding- especially with his best friend. He knows Oliver's personality inside and out and goes out of his way to avoid topics of conversation that would turn his mood sour, but also knows when to call Oliver out on his shit. He cares incredibly deeply for his friends, and makes an effort to talk to them whenever possible and cherishes the moments they have together. He is responsible but feigns being oblivious a lot of the time, and is one who values communication.
Douglass for Oliver is the only other person he is ever really comfortable talking to, partly due to the raport they have with eachother but also because Ols is a shit ass liar and Douglass isn't afraid to call him out on it. Despite his thorny nature, Oliver would trust Douglass with his secrets and personal history because He is intuitive enough to know when things aren't okay. Oliver is also quite incredibly jealous of Douglass, mostly because he is cis, but also because he knows that he is a good person and doesn't think he is a worthy friend, regardless of what Douglass says. He also recognises that on some level, Douglass has a crush on him which inadvertently fuels his negative self esteem as Oliver feels that he would be much better off with someone who deserved the amount of compassion and care that Douglass gives him.
And ironically, Douglass knows this already, which is why he doesn't really pursue Oliver romantically despite desperately wanting to. He sets boundaries for himself and tries very hard not to cross them, knowing that if he did, it could potentially ruin their slowly rebuilt relationship.

w/Julian:  They have two kids: Nora and Rylen.  They are 22 months apart from each other.  Both of them have curly auburn hair like Julian, but they did inherit Azalea's premature greying.  So they enchant their hair like their mother. 
Nora (older)
Height:  6'
Pronouns:  She/Her
Hair:  very long; curly auburn that fades into blonde.  Hangs below her rear.  Usually tied back into a loose ponytail.
Eyes:  Royal Blue/Gold
Features:  Has her father's impressive nose.  Swimmer's build.  Medium skin, like Azalea.
She wears a brown vest with gold trim and brown capri pants.  She wears gold slip-on shoes.  She likes to get into scrapes like Julian, but she is acrobatic like Azalea, so she can squiggle out of those scrapes with remarkable ease.  She works at the local circus as a magician/acrobat.
Rylen (younger)
Height: 5'8"
Pronouns:  He/Him
Hair:  short; slightly longer than his father's, hanging just below his ears.  Curly auburn that fades into hunter green.
Eyes: Grey
Features:  smaller, round nose like Azalea.    Medium skin tone.
He is quiet and enjoys reading books.  He wears loose-fitting shirts with either a slate blue vest or a deep green coat.  He wears black pants and brown knee-high boots.  He is actually quite impressive with magic, but like Azalea, he doesn't say much about it.  He is training with his father to be a doctor.
w/Lucio:  They also have two kids:  Darien and Etoile.  They are two years apart.  They also inherit Azalea's greying hair, but they choose not to enchant it because they both like the blonde that fades into silver.

Darien is very humble like Azalea.   He is the type who will get lost in a good book and look up to realize that he's spent a whole day reading.  He also likes to play the drums.  He usually wears a white button-up shirt with a lavender vest.  The vest has various good-luck symbols stitched into the edges, and he wears a vervain boutonnière.  He sports leaf-green pants and knee-high brown boots.  He runs the magic shop when he is old enough, and acquires quite a few admirers who like to watch him mix potions through the shop windows.  "Have you seen that boy who runs the shop?!  He's so dreamy!!"  He doesn't let it go to his head, though.  He has eyes for only one girl...
Etoile (younger)
Height:  5'6"
Pronouns:  She/Her
Hair:  Long; blonde roots that fade into silver at the ends.  She usually has it swept back into a long braid.
Eyes:  Royal Blue
Features:  Etoile is a lovely mixture between Lucio and Azalea.  She's got Lucio's face shape, but Azalea's nose and mouth.
She is headstrong, loud, proud, and bulletproof like her father.  She can't stay cooped up in one place for very long.  She has to go out and explore.  She typically wears a white blouse covered with a black corset.  She also sports a long black coat with gold embroidery, black pants, and black high-heeled thigh-high boots.  She gets lots of attractive attention from others and relishes it.

Celestia (oldest)
Height:  5'7"
Pronouns:  She/Her
Hair:  Long; curly and white like Asra with pink lowlights.  Typically wears it loose, but also pins the sides back with barrettes.
Eyes:  Red like Imalia
Features:  Asra's face shape and nose, but Imalia's strong eyebrows and thinner mouth.  Slight cleft in her chin.  Olive skin tone like Asra.
Celestia also goes by "Lessie" or "Tia."  Her facial features resemble Asra very strongly, but she has a strong jaw like Imalia.  She is lively and extroverted.  She is very open and honest, and very genuine.  However, she has her mother's temper and can go from a fairy princess to pale-haired demon in a heartbeat.  She likes to wear fashionable yet comfortable clothing.  She typically wears a pink long-sleeved blouse with a powder blue bodice.  She favors knee-length frilly skirts, usually in white or pale pink.  She wears black slip-on shoes, but will also go barefoot a lot.  She is the object of Darien/Rylen’s affections.
Velian (middle)
Height:  6'1"
Pronouns:  He/Him
Hair:  short and curly like Asra, but light brown like Imalia.  It stays messy, and that's how he likes it.
Eyes:  Lavender like Asra.
Features:  Velian is a big, broad guy.  He takes after Imalia's father as far as his body.  He has a strong jawline, high cheek bones, and a slightly upturned nose (like Imalia).  Olive skin tone like his father, but slightly lighter.
He is a mad magical scientist like his mother, but respects magic and what it can do, good and bad.  He loves to help Aisha and Salim with whatever they are working on at the moment and LOVES music.  He is a tinkerer and enjoys creating new and unique musical instruments.  He loves to create carnival-style musical instruments that require carts to be moved around.  (think Wintergatan's Marble Machine).  He also sports a lute that can double as a mace.
Aries (youngest; adopted)
Height:  5'4"
Pronouns:  They/Them
Hair:  Shoulder length; sleek black with white forelocks, usually tied into a low ponytail, or a wolf knot.
Eyes:  Vivid green
Features:  They have a long, slender face with shallow cheek-bones.  They have a hawk nose and very full lips.  Light skin tone.
Aries is dual-sexed; meaning all the parts.  They were a Vesuvian orphan, but it was clear that they weren't born in Vesuvia.  Imalia suspects that Aries has a more magical parentage, but it's very hard to tell exactly what (spoiler:  they are half-fae).  Aries is a child of nature and loves going on trips with their parents.  Aries typically wears a very loose tunic that is half black and half white.  They wear either black or brown pants with ankle-high brown shoes.  Etoile doesn’t want to admit it, but she is fascinated by Aries and wants to get much closer to them.

The Fool.  She was a well of endless possibility and potential.  She wasn't afraid to try new things, she had an innocent nature to her, and was quite creative in her magic use.  She was a beacon in the Magical Realms, and The Fool loved interacting with her.  When the deal was made to give her The Fool's body, The Fool actually agreed wholeheartedly.  All that beauty and innocence and talent needed to continue on.

The Empress.  Imalia's family has always been vehement about continuing their bloodline because the family has been full of exceptional magic users for hundreds of years.  Even though Imalia herself became quite annoyed and at times even resentful of this, there was always a part of her that desperately wanted to be a mother.  She loved the bond she had shared with her father.  She wanted that kind of bond with her own children.  She was already a rather maternal person since she got true joy and pleasure out of teaching others and nurturing their minds.  She rarely interacts with The Empress herself, but there are times she hears her voice.

w/Julian:  They live in the magic shop until they have Nora.  Then they upgrade to a nicer two-story house across the canal in the Center City.  It's well-lit with plenty of windows and gauzy curtains.  There are three bedrooms (the already knew they were going to have another child), two bathrooms, a large kitchen, a living/sitting room, and two studies; one for Azalea and her magic, and one for Julian and his medicine.  There is also a playroom for Nora and Rylen, which eventually becomes Rylen's study.  On the second floor there is a small balcony that doubles as a herb garden.  Azalea did most of the decorating since Julian didn't have much taste as far as interior design.  There are light catchers hanging from most of the windows, colorful fabrics draped over most of the furniture, fairy lights in the bedrooms.
w/Lucio:  Lucio lived with Azalea in the shop for a short while until Nadia gifted them with a very nice estate near the Temple District.  Nadia knew Lucio's taste and was still very grateful to Azalea for taking him off of her hands in the first place.  The property is quite expansive with room for most of Lucio's pets, and a very nice house for the servants.  The main house itself is three stories with many guest rooms, studies, lavish bathrooms, and an impressive master bedroom.  The kitchen is open and well-lit, and Azalea will insist on helping the servants with meals.  The interior decorating is a happy mixture between Lucio's and Azalea's individual tastes.  Rich red curtains pulled open to allow in light with glittering light catchers, lots of gold trim on the furniture, and various vivid colors throughout the house.  Lucio has his own trophy room to display his hunting trophies, Azalea has a study to research and practice magic, and an entire room dedicated to wardrobe.  There is also a greenhouse for Azalea's magical herbs.  The main entry to the house has moonflower vines growing around the door.

Imalia and Asra live in her family estate, at the southernmost point of the Center City.

It is three stories with a basement/wine cellar.  The interior is a mixture of light and dark; the hallways and entry room are lit with candelabras.  But the rooms themselves have high windows, each one decorated with stained glass at the top.  There are many rooms in the estate, but most are unused/storage.  The used rooms are:  Imalia/Asra's study (a large room with floor to ceiling bookshelves on all of the walls, littered with various tables covered in books, scrolls, artifacts, and scientific/magical apparatus), Imalia/Asra's bedroom (large mostly sparse room with a grand canopy bed, vanity, and closet),  the kitchen (more tall than spacious, with eight foot tall mahogany cabinets, prep table, and two stoves), Ben and Avery's rooms, a greenhouse, and three impressive bathrooms.  Before Asra moved in, the house was mostly decorated in browns, reds, and golds.  All of the furniture is dark mahogany, as is the wood trim around the house.  The curtains were usually red or plum, and the furniture had red velvet upholstery.  When Asra moved in, more colors began to splash the scenery.  The furniture became draped in vivid lively colors, the windows began to have various crystals littering the sills, large plush lounging pillows appeared, and more home carved trinkets became a frequent decoration.  After a while, Muriel began to stay at the estate more often when he got involved with Avery, so the presence of homemade charms and wards became a typical sight.  Imalia didn't mind at all.  In fact, more life in the estate made it seem less dreary and completely drove away the bad memories of her youth.

Alright, let me put a few points of stuff I’ve seen on the tags to rest here.
1) Jades Are A Rare Caste.
They are implied to be less plentiful than other castes, yeah, I believe Seadwellers are also rare? But here’s the thing- We have six Jades. When someone says “There’s twice as many Jades as we have Rusts or Bronzes”, it sounds like, shit, yeah weren’t they supposed to be less abundant? Except. They’re still, in total, just Six. Alternia is a planet. Lore-wise, they may be a less plentiful Caste, but they’re not even... In the double digits. This is not even the population of a neighborhood, Xefros’ suburban area likely had more Trolls in total than there are Trolls in this Troll Call, and besides it’s likely all Jades are in the same place for some reason- Jadeblood School is the biggest headcanon right now, for example, so... Why wouldn’t you have a bunch of Jades there?
2) Jades Are All Female.
This is a straight-up misconception, yeah they’re mostly girls, but canon still leaves room for Jadeblood boys. So Male Jadeblood? Yeah, can happen, and there’s nothing going against the canon here.
3) Trolls Have No Concept Of Gender.
This one is honestly baffling to me because I haven’t heard about this until the discourse today. I am assuming this comes from the fact Troll Reproduction doesn’t care who provides the genetic material? Their reproduction is not tied to gender, which has made people assume Troll junk is the same for both guys and gals. Except... That’s about it. Even though it’s silly because they’re bugs and implied to be hermaphroditic, they still show sexual dimorphism. And even if they didn’t, they still have a concept of Gender, merely based on the fact there’s Troll Boys and Troll Girls? He/She divide? With Hiveswap expanding on it and showing us there are, indeed, NB Trolls that prefer They/Them. This Gender Divide is actually talked about by Porrim, who also implies that while Fuchsia-down Alternia seemed a Matriarchy, Purple-down it was actually a Patriarchy, informing us that not ONLY is there sexual dimorphism, but also, a cultural divide. By saying that Lanque can’t be Trans because Trolls have no concept of Gender, you’re either mistaking headcanons for actual canon... Or being transphobic by equating genitalia to gender. In which case, fuck off.
4) Trolls Don’t Care About Fashion.
This is something Karkat says, and I believe Kanaya also implies she cares about it more than it’s usual? But Fashion in Troll Culture, seems to be exactly like Mail. Karkat mentions there’s no Mail they do not get a Mailbox with a Flag, yet we see Xefros get mail! Except it’s not Mail. It’s parachuted delivery straight from a website. There’s no standarized Mail system on Alternia, but that doesn’t mean companies can’t deliver things themselves, directly to their Hives. Similarly, Trolls have no concept of Fashion- They don’t care about things such as trends, variety, being dressed properly. And... Hiveswap doesn’t break this. They have more colorful clothes, and some look pretty good! But. Look at Cirava. They’re an absolute fashion disaster. Diemen is just dressed like a hot dog. The Jades all seem to wear uniforms of some sort. Fozzer and Marsti, Skylla, they are more akin to work clothes. The Soleil Twins and Marvus are more flashy, because they’re likely part of a spectacle. Most of them are either a sort of uniform or outfit that’ll fit whatever they’re doing, or a basic color with their symbol somewhere. And you can go from Bright Pink Bathrobe Stelsa, to Pirate-Clad Remele, and back to Punk Denim Elwurd. Not being Fashionable can be about trends, they may simply dress however they want, because of their interests, or their jobs.
But let’s think about this another way. Let’s say that, yeah, they did retcon Troll Fashion- Would... Would you really be mad if they retconned Troll Fashion. Like... Would you be happier if every Troll shown was wearing a plain black shirt with their Symbol, and pants or a skirt, with slight variations of a jacket or a tank top. I don’t think there’s a single Hiveswap design I dislike, and they’re all visibly varied and easily recognizable, and tell a lot about the character, which is like. Character Design 101? So I honestly don’t know what the complaint here is exactly, except Canon Purity.
5) Hiveswap Ruined Fantroll Variety
How. First of all, the entire previous point. Just, expanding upon basic Troll Clothes, showing us the extent of how Trolls dress. But also like... What did they limit exactly? We’re going to learn more about Trolls and Troll Culture and Biology, of course headcanons are going to clash with canon, but so far, what have they limited? I’ve heard about Horns, but like... These horns have all been so varied, and sure there’s stuff like hooks with Ceruleans and Jades, and Four Horns with Golds but... This pattern is also broken, with Azdaja having three, for example. We’ve seen new Psionic colors, we’ve seen stuff like Horn Piercing, we’ve seen Troll Twins, we have seen horns where the orange part starts at different heights than you’d expect and even some of the parts jutting out having their own red-orange-yellow coloration separate of the main shaft of the horn. If anything, until now, there’s always been headcanons for Horns, like, “Oh this is their symbol so it’ll be like this”, or “this is their caste, so, they’ll have big horns”, but no, we have Purples with small horns, we have Bronzes with curly horns downwards, we have a cerulean with super uneven horns, we have a gold with three horns, we have a teal with flat horns, we have rounded horns, we have hotdog horns. I’ve heard people wonder about some Horn Shapes in the prior weeks, about how they didn’t match their restrictive headcanons, and NOW you tell me they’re restrictive? There’s also been complaints about caste roles and stereotypes, and I feel people really forget that Alternia is a Tyranny that forces the inhabitants in roles they are most likely not happy with, specially for the lower castes. Like... Rusts are disposable, and likely to be bound to a life of servitude. Because they’re the lowest of the low, society treats them as such, and there’s stereotypes like Indigos being strong, but that’s not any more restrictive than Psionics being a Gold-only thing, and much like we see Zebede not having Psionics or Elwurd and Mallek having normal eyes to every other cerulean’s messed-up ones... There’s exceptions to the rule everywhere. There have always been.
I’ve also seen complaints about no mutant bloods or things like Albinism and such? And like... The fact they didn’t include it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. We actually got Freckles with Zebede, so it already implies skin conditions are a thing, so Albinism could happen, if anything we have more PROOF that it may be a thing! Complaining about a lack of Limebloods and Violets, too, is just nitpicking, we know there will be Violets eventually, but either we haven’t been shown right now, or they’re just. In the sea. And we’re in the land. And Limes are likely to be a plot point, I’m expecting at least ONE Lime (Fiamet), if not more to show up at some point, and if there’s NO Limebloods I’m sure there will be at least talk OF Limebloods and their whole, you know, extermination, which is a canon thing that happened.
6) The Game’s Representation Is Bad Representation
Listen... Listen. I have friends ecstatic that there’s at LEAST three non-cis characters in Hiveswap (One trans boy, two NBs), without counting the possibility of other characters being Trans (Pretty much anyone could be), or NB (Like, I think about half of the characters don’t have pronouns on their bullet points?), not to mention, further acts with new characters. Hell, even Xefros or Dammek or Joey could be Trans. We. Literally know nothing about these characters, our information is so limited, and yet there’s already people cheering about it and super happy to see representation and I’ve seen one person in the tag encouraged to come out because Lanque is Trans. There’s also at least two Jewish Trolls, plus the possibility of Kanaya being Jewish as well, either her, Rose, or both. And yet, even though they have simply said this, in good faith, respectfully, and trying to add diversity to their roster, and even though we literally know NOTHING of how it’ll be handled yet, you... Bash them for it?
Like, okay. Lanque. The big topic today. He’s not particularly masculine, but as has surely been repeated over and over and over again, not all trans men are masculine, and not all trans people suffer dysphoria. And yeah, it’s true! It would be nice if there was a more masculine trans man! It would be great if there were trans girls! It would be great if there were more diversely coded NB characters! And there may be?? There’s going to be more characters, if not in this Act, in future Acts, and of the ones we’ve seen, many of them could still be NB or Trans. Like... Again. We’ve got three bullet points from each character. Like, I’m sorry you didn’t get a trans character that you could identify better with yet? But that doesn’t mean you have to bash the one we got? When there are people genuinely happy and encouraged about it? You’re not being progressive. You’re being an elitist asshole, if you only accept 100% perfect representation suited to your tastes, and everything else is garbage, or god help me, ‘fetishization’ or ‘disgusting’ (I have heard both on the Tags), like seriously. You’re being the oppressive one. You’re the one making representation harder than it should be.
Oh and if you’re on the OPPOSITE side of the spectrum and simply being Transphobic or saying how all of this is ‘pandering’ to the audience, really I have nothing to say, if you cannot have basic empathy for a group of people finding representation in a game which source material is extremely queer, and have to resort to bashing it down, screw you.
7) WhatPumpkin Are Doing A Bad Job
This is your subjective opinion, and I’d dare to say, a wrong opinion, but let’s not go there for now. WP has suffered a lot of hate for some reason? There have been lies and slander and bashing for absolutely no reason. People hate Cohen for some reason, and have demonized him, when so far what I’ve seen about him is that he’s a pretty chill dude. The writing of Hiveswap wasn’t like, a masterpiece? But it was fun and it got a good bunch of chuckles out of me and made me care for the characters, and even got me a bit scared and sad at some points during the game! It has that Homestuck Spark, and if you say ‘it’s not like Homestuck’, you’re... I’m sorry, you’re just an elitist, or simply don’t like the style anymore? But it carries a very similar charm.
I’ve heard complaints about Hussie not being involved in the project- Which is false, he did write the entire story FIRST THING, and is overseeing the whole project with the rest of the team. There’s also been criticism towards WP ‘failing’ at representation (Before actually seeing the representation apparently, again, we know NOTHING about the game and how it’ll handle stuff so far), and also accusing WP and Cohen specifically of adding representation because of Woke Points and like... WP are Queer as Heck? I don’t know all of them, I don’t even know how many people are working at WP. But they’re not all straight 100% for sure, and I believe they’re not all cis- And even if they ARE all cis, I also doubt a group working on such a Queer game would NOT hear out from Trans friends. What I’m trying to say, is that they haven’t shown at any point disrespect of ignorance regarding the diversity they want to tackle, they’re not doing things out of bad faith, and we haven’t seen how they handle it yet. Even if they didn’t handle it ideally! Does it need to be absolutely perfect, there can be missteps on the way there, god dammit if someone’s trying to better themselves but not quite getting it right you don’t insult them and tear them down! You show them what to do better next time or where they are mistaken, by pessimistically ignoring what they’re trying to do out of spite you’re discouraging good will and being an asshole! Which leads me to my last point for now.
8) They Could Have Told Us We Were Misgendering Lanque
This one is... Really, a bit ridiculous. Okay, let me explain. If someone is Trans and you misgender them accidentally, they’ll tell you quickly and you’ll, hopefully, correct yourself. Obviously. When the Trolls leaked, everyone latched onto Lanque as ‘Butch Lesbian’, and clung to that hope, and now that they were proven wrong, there was salt, at first, and THEN came the talk about Misgendering Lanque. And let me tell you, I think this is very selfish of everyone saying it.
What WP likely thought would happen is that they’d reveal Lanque to be a Trans boy, and people would be like “Oh! Nice, Trans Rep!”. Sure they could’ve told us back then but... Why? Lanque is not. A real person. He’s a fictional character, he’s not going to be offended because you thought he was a butch woman for a few months, in fact the SILHOUETTE alone ALREADY had people clinging to him as a butch woman. If he were a real person? Of course there’d be a quick correction. But he’s. A character. He’s just a god damn character. Who is Trans, out of good faith by a very Queer company, showing us a Trans man, who is a character, and expecting that, like NORMAL PEOPLE, we would not do something like THIS.
When you criticize WP for not telling us Lanque was a Trans Man, all I’m seeing is a shift of blame, not wanting to simply admit you were wrong and jumped to conclusions, and like- Even if there was Fanart or Fanfic of Lanque calling him a woman briefly, shipping him around mistakenly, who cares? You just. Go. “Okay, I’ll change it” or “Whoops haha this was from when we didn’t know he was a Trans boy!” Why the militant hatred? Why the absolute disgust shown today? I can’t understand, I simply cannot understand why your first reaction to “Trans boy Jadeblood” is “WELL I THOUGHT HE WAS A BUTCH LESBIAN!! I WASN’T WRONG BY ASSUMING THIS, WHATPUMPKIN WERE FOR TRYING TO MAKE THEIR GAME MORE DIVERSE”. It’s like... You just. Correct it? You just correct yourself? And yeah you can want more masculine Trans boys, that’s fair! But dismissing what we got, entirely, and insulting it, and getting like THIS, and blaming the team, it just seems.
Narcissistic. It seems narcissistic and extremely self-centered, and perfectionist to the extreme of not wanting anything other than a complete and absolute ideal, that may fit you but may also not fit others.
In conclusion?
People are happy about representation. This isn’t destroying diversity or representation, this is not reducing customization of Fantrolls, this is only building MORE on the already expansive system, and giving us representation and hope for MORE representation in the future, and if you cannot be happy for a genuine, good natured, and honestly, perfectly fine attempt, if you cannot feel empathy for the people who did feel for this representation, if you can only want to find reasons to bash something down and demonize something good and point out how BAD and NOT GOOD things are and how MUCH BETTER they could be, then honestly, you’re a deeply unpleasant person.
Give things time. Give people with good intentions chances. Learn to backpedal and learn from mistakes and simply correct yourself when you’re wrong instead of going down a hateful spiral. Learn to separate fiction and reality. Just like... Think, for a moment, when you’re writing something down- Is it a jaded opinion, or an objective fact? Will it hurt and discourage people who’re genuinely happy or trying to make others happy? Why do more harm than good when there are good intentions paving the way?
I just simply cannot understand the basic lack of critical thought and empathy of some people I have seen today, and hopefully with this I can make my opinion on the whole absurd Discourse that transpired today clear.

Drama Queen:  Anna’s experience with theatre (and party crashing) taught her how to read people and situations and to have a very malleable outward persona.  Not only can she shift her apparent personality drastically, she can do so rapidly, allowing her to blend into different environments as she moves through them and gain people’s trust as she goes.  Studying theatre also required her to study movement, so even though she had no experience with hand-to-hand combat prior to being recruited, she was physically fit and flexible, leaving her in a good position to learn.
Behind the Scenes:  Anna also learned valuable skills from her involvement in the technical theatre.  Just as she knows how to bring attention to herself, she also knows how to send it away and direct it elsewhere.  She is resourceful, attentive to detail, good at working within a team, and focused under pressure.  Additionally, she has no trouble walking around oddly shaped spaces littered with obstacles in absolute darkness.
           Anna Daphne Miller was born to Christine Miller, a museum curator, on December 21, 1992.  Anna grew up as a latchkey kid in a nice suburb in Western Massachusetts.  Christine always loved reading to Anna, who inherited her mother’s love of books and ended up spending a lot of her spare time at the local library.  At school, she was focused and excited to learn and on weekends she loved going to the museum with her mother.
           She had her first experience with theatre at the age of ten.  Her fifth-grade class spent the spring preparing to put on (a significantly shortened version of) Peter Pan.  Anna was assigned to play one of the extra lost boys her teacher had invented so there would be enough rolls for everyone, but despite having only half of one line, she was instantly hooked.  When Anna started middle school, she quickly found more opportunities to participate, and it quickly became her primary extracurricular.  In ninth grade, when she didn’t get into the fall play (it was a small cast and seniors got priority), she was crushed until Christine suggested she could still be involved by joining the crew.  She loved it, and soon she was choosing to be backstage almost as often as she was on stage.
           Anna did well enough in her other classes, with particularly strong marks in English, but her true passion was theatre.  Still Christine insisted she go to college somewhere where she could study a range of subjects, wanting Anna to receive a well-rounded education.  She was accepted to a liberal arts college in the Midwest with a good theatre program, satisfying both women.  Everything seemed to be going perfectly.
           Christine died in a car accident about a month after Anna graduated high-school.  She was able to defer her enrollment a year, and took that year to get her mother’s affairs, and herself, back in order.  When she did start college, she was fine.  She made friends, got good grades, and quickly declared a major in theatre and a minor in literature.  Still she did her best to avoid coming home, staying on campus or with friends whenever she could, and she began to lose touch with the people she’d grown up around.
           Her junior year, she and her friends started crashing parties.  Maybe it was spurred on by a need for adventure, maybe it was a lack of parental guidance, maybe she’d started to realize that theatre wasn’t enough for her any more, or maybe it was just a desire for something that wasn’t dining hall food, she couldn’t tell you.  They started small, sneaking through the cocktail parties of on-campus weddings to grab hors d’oeuvres, but soon enough, they wanted more.  They started going off campus, going thrift shopping to match dress codes.  At the time, it seemed silly and harmless.  Occasionally one of them would get caught, get sent out with a light scolding and a “kids these days,” since they weren’t actually causing any trouble.  Sooner or later they each had a similar story.
           Except for Anna.  Anna never got caught.  Her friends would tease that she’d called in advance, bribed the host for a real invite.  She would just roll her eyes and tease back, “No.  I’m just good at this.”
           It was winter break her senior year when she broke her perfect record.  She was staying with one of her friends, Megan, who lived on a street lined with houses that were practically mansions.  Someone new had just moved in down the road, Megan explained, and they were throwing a big, fancy holiday party.  “We should go,” said Megan, knowing Anna wouldn’t object.  Then she added, “And we should take something, so that everyone believes us when we get back.”
           Megan got spotted within fifteen minutes of getting there, cover blown by a mutual neighbor, but Anna stayed.  Eventually, she found an opportunity to sneak further into the house unnoticed and was able to snatch a monogrammed hand towel and hide it in her purse.  She returned to the party for a few minutes, and once it wouldn’t have been suspicious, left and made her way back to Megan’s house.  She thought she’d pulled the whole adventure off unnoticed, and it was true, she hadn’t been noticed yet.  However, she had failed to recognize the security cameras tucked into the sconces in the hallways.
           The next day, the host of the party stopped by Megan’s house, but asked to see Anna.  He was an older gentleman, polite and amused, and only requested that Anna return the hand towel, which Anna was more than happy to do.  He didn’t tell Megan’s parents, and he didn’t call the police, he assured Anna.  What he didn’t tell her, was that he’d made a different call entirely.
           Anna thought that was the end of it.  She went back to school and continued life as normal, not realizing she was being watched.  It wasn’t until spring break that it came up again.  She was reading in the campus library when someone she’d never seen before approached her.  They knew all about her and about the holiday party too.  Apparently, they were a friend, she could hear the italics in their speech, of the gracious host, they explained.  Then they made her an offer.
           She started training as soon as she graduated.  At first, she felt out of place; her background felt so different from everyone else around her.  She wasn’t a science genius or an experienced fighter.  Still, she persisted, because she knew she wouldn’t get an opportunity so perfect again: it was everything she loved about theatre, and yet, so much more.  She learned what she needed to, practiced as much as she could, and graduated training feeling like she’d found a new purpose and maybe a new family as well.
Character personality:
           Pros: Determined, Passionate, Resourceful, Playful
           Cons: Impatient, blunt, abrasive
           Anna is happy and friendly, she’s just not always the best at expressing that.  She spends her assignments constantly pretending to be people she isn’t, so when she’s back at the bunker, she prefers to be as honest as she can.  It’s how she shows that she trusts people, but it can come off insensitive or critical sometimes.  She doesn’t mean to hurt anyone; she cares a lot about those around her, considering the agency her family.  She truly wants to be helpful, she just doesn’t have the patience to “sugar coat” anything; it feels like lying to her, and she does her best to leave the lies outside the bunker.
           That being said, she loves to make people happy whenever possible, especially by making them laugh.  She’ll do whatever she can: funny faces, bad puns, melodramatic responses.  If it’s safe and she thinks it’ll make a friend’s day at all better, she’ll do it, no matter how ridiculous.
           Anna is persistent.  She’ll try to do whatever it takes to complete a mission or accomplish a goal, and she hates feeling like she’s being held back or unnecessarily made to wait.
OTHER:
Her favorite suit (she has a few for different situations/dress codes) is a midnight blue evening gown.  The skirt is tear away, in case she has to fight, and makes a rather effective shield.
She has a solo room as she appreciates having a space where she can just get away from people.  Besides her bed, its main features are a simple vanity (with plenty of drawers), a couple of bookshelves filled with her ever growing collection of books and movies, and a flat screen TV with a DVD/Blu-Ray player and a fancy sound system.
While she doesn’t have a favorite, the most important book in Anna’s collection is a copy of The Hobbit.  It was one of the first books her mother read to her growing up, and they read it again together many times.  This copy is particularly special: Her mother wrote a letter (equal parts heartfelt and cheesy) on the title page and gave it to Anna as a graduation gift (at the time, she teased that it was just because she didn’t want Anna stealing her copy to take to college).  Anna keeps it in her bedside table, rather than on the shelf, because she likes to read the letter before she goes to sleep sometimes.
Her skin care routine isn’t insane, but she does have one.
She wears reading glasses when reading for extended periods of time.
She sings in the shower.
She likes tea (especially anything with jasmine).
She doesn’t bleach her own hair.  She tried it once in high school, and it went badly.  Really badly.  There are photos.  She won’t share them.
She picked up some ballroom dancing in college and is happy to teach anyone who want to learn, mostly because she wants someone to practice with.
She has a pretty serious sweet tooth, and a particular weakness for anything with dark chocolate.
She hates needles.
She’s very close to her mentor, as they provided the guidance and reassurance she’d been so sorely lacking since her mother died.

Camilla “Mia” Salali Narváez-Tovani
Camilla is pronounced Cah-mee-uh but she mostly goes by Mia
She’s Elenore and Parker’s only biological child, born when they’re both thirty-one
Has Elenore’s build, short (but ends up taller than Elenore), curvy and thick, muscular. Her face is round like Elenore’s, but she has Parker’s slightly hooked nose and his eyes. Her hair, like Parker’s, is thick, dark, and wavy and for most of her life reaches her mid-back. Her skin tone is slightly lighter than Parker’s and she has freckles on her cheeks and nose.
She stops growing once she reaches 5′3″
Kind of a brat. She gets into even more fights than Elenore did growing up and she doesn’t have the same desire to be a hero as Elenore - she’s just a feisty, hot-headed kid.
Gets in trouble at school a lot and has horrible ADHD and dyslexia.
Has a lot of trouble with authority. As a general rule, she doesn’t like being told what to do.
Much smarter than what people give her credit for.
Despite how accepting and supportive her parents are, Mia can be very closed off. She definitely has depression but it’s not recognized until her later teenage years because she won’t communicate with them.
It’s actually Adom who tells their parents about the depression. Though, Parker was beginning to suspect at that point.
Mia really has a hard time finding herself. She doesn’t know quite where she fits in and doesn’t know what kind of person she wants to be. She has a hard time making friends because she’s quick to anger and takes every offense really personally.
Really loves dance and music. She plays the guitar and does a lot of hip hop dances as well as capoeira. Pretty much always has big headphones on her head or around her neck.
Listens to a lot of rap and hip hop.
Her wardrobe is almost entirely sweatpants, joggers, tank tops, and baggy t-shirts.
Lots of snapbacks too
Again, having supportive parents doesn’t magically make Mia’s life smooth and easy. She struggles a lot with her sexuality because finding any kind of identity is really hard for her.
Takes the role of being a big sister Very Seriously. Don’t mess with her sibling because she will come for you and she’ll kick ass.
Very family oriented. She feels more comfortable with her siblings than she does with most of her friends. She and Adom are really close and tell each other everything.
Adom Jafari Narváez-Tovani
Adom is adopted when he’s two years old, four years after Mia is born, making him two years younger than Mia
He’s adopted from Liberia
He’s very thin and lanky and any muscle he has is wiry and lean. He has dark skin, dark eyes, and dark hair. His hair is kept short and is tightly curled. He has a long, heart shaped face, a wide nose, and thick lips. When he’s finished growing, he’s 6′1″.
Total mama’s boy
Loves reading and books. His collection of books is huge and shelves take up most of his wall space in his room
Like Parker, he really loves music, though he tends to prefer mostly instrumental.
He plays violin and cello and he’s very good at both.
Adom tends to be really quiet and might come off as shy. Really, he’s fine with socializing and gets along with people really well, but gets very lost in his own head.
He really enjoys nature and goes on a lot of long walks/hikes. Often he drags Mia along with him which actually helps her clear her mind so she doesn’t put up too much of a fuss
When things go bad, he’s always one of the helpers. One of those people that will drop everything to help out in any way he can.
Very charming and fun to talk to. Teachers and adults tend to love him.
Brings people gifts all the time (like donuts or flowers) and always asks people how their day is going and is genuinely interested in their response.
He does swimming and diving
Ends up being a lifeguard at his local pool most summers.
He’s never really an intense person. He’s always calm and collected and easy to be around. The only exception is when he’s playing violin or cello. In that case, he goes hard and there could definitely be some headbanging involved.
He covers for Mia a lot in instances where she may get in trouble.
Meilin Narváez-Tovani
Meilin is adopted when she’s three from China. She’s five years younger than Adom.
She’s adopted when Elenore and Parker are forty-one. After adopting Adom, they decided to take a break from having/adopting kids, so Parker could have time to work on his career and not miss out on the kids growing up.
Meilin is petite and thin, though she does have a lot of muscle on her. Her muscles are pretty wiry and she has a small frame. Her face is round and she has a flat, medium-sized nose. She breaks her nose when she’s thirteen, so it’s slightly crooked in the bridge. She has brown, monolid eyes and dark brown, nearly black hair. For most of her life she keeps her hair between chin and shoulder length, often paired with bangs.
She ends up being 5′7.5″
Super talkative. She never stops talking, which means her siblings barely ever get a word in.
Most people barely get a word in when she’s around
Really into fashion and clothes. Her closet is packed with all kinds of clothes, accessories, and shoes.
Very confident and optimistic. People like to be around her and listen to her because she definitely commands attention and also makes people feel good about themselves.
Compliments people regularly. Also makes an effort to bring up the good things when things are bad.
As much as she loves to lift people up, she’s pretty self-centered. She’s convinced she’s never wrong. She also has a habit of believing she’s better than other people.
Absolutely a feminist. Believes in equality for everyone and that women shouldn’t be held to different standards than men.
Does martial arts with Dominik. They start at the same time and work their way up to multiple degree black belts.
She and Dom are partners in crime. They do a lot together and share a lot of the same ideals and beliefs.
Ridiculously flexible and has great reflexes.
Dominik Erik Narváez-Tovai
Dominik is adopted when he’s three from Poland. He’s three years younger than Meilin.
When he’s older, he has a diamond shaped face, with a defined jaw line. He has blond hair that varies in length through the years, and blue eyes. He has broad shoulders, fair skin, and obviously toned muscle. He has a pointed nose and thin lips.
When he’s finished growing, he’s 5′11″
His passions are music, baseball, and martial arts.
His music tastes are mostly rock, punk, pop punk, and alternative music. He’ll listen to a bit of metal when he’s in the mood for it.
When he’s younger he looks like a happy ball of sunshine but he hits an emo phase in middle school. He dyes his hair different colors for a few years, occasionally spikes it, and his wardrobe gets a lot darker.
In high school, his style shifts to a bit more punk. Leather jackets and ripped jeans are common and he returns to his natural hair in the summer before his junior year.
Aside from his emo phase when he was legitimately depressed and not always himself, Dominik has always been happy and friendly. His personality is similar to Adom’s in many ways.
He helps out strangers all the time and looks out for others, but he’s way more opinionated than Adom and occasionally butts heads with people. Those who can look past times when they don’t agree with him tend to find him charming.
More argumentative as well. He’ll voice his opinion and then back it up in a debate.
His opinions that he speaks out about tend to do with respecting others existence, mistrust of the government, and preserving the environment.
Definitely loves a lot of punk ideals.
He’s not a huge fan of labels but he’s neither cis nor straight. He’ll date anyone he likes, and he’s fine with people labeling his gender as whatever and using whatever pronouns they like. Most tend to use he/him pronouns and he doesn’t mind.
His shelves in his room hold CDs, baseball trophies, martial arts trophies, and records. He doesn’t have any books and doesn’t care a whole lot about school.
He has his martial arts belts hung on the wall along with some guitars and his baseball bats through the years.
Stops playing baseball regularly in late high school but when he’s stressed, he might go out and hit a few baseballs.

Boku no Hero Academia 22
I never saw that “meteor shower” coming! BnHA keeps the surprises coming, eh?
Hey, he used Uraraka’s name! He’s serious now!!!
I gotta admit Denki and the other hero trying to defend Uraraka only because she’s a girl is an outdated idea (but the patriarchy demands I only get irked about this a bit), but defending Uraraka because she’s almost out of commission is something I can understand.
Oh, the tough realities of herohood…the suckiness of failure…I gotta touch on this more in Half-Paid Heroes. Better pay attention!
It’s kinda clear Shouto vs Izuku is gonna get cut off by the time limit, but it’s interesting to note that there are 2 rivals close to Midoriya. Normally a shonen hero only has one fixed one.
Boku no Hero Academia 23
I’ve seen people comment a tonne on episode 22, so episode 23 should garner a lot of attention too as the highlight of this season.
I always thought by saying Shouto could be a hero, it implied his mother could no longer be one. Why? Possible trigger warning for this, but I think it’s “enduring Endeavour’s abuse”.
The bandage on Uraraka’s face reminds me that BnHA is good at consistency.
Poodle girl, who tried to defend Uraraka last ep, is still in the crowd. Another good touch of consistency.
This is rare – Bakugo’s introspective and showing off why he’s top of the class simultaneously.
Looking at this from a strategy point of view, Deku still has his legs, potentially his head if he wants to risk it, (uninjured) parts of his arms maybe, or overexerting his arms again. If he gets very creative, maybe his torso. It still looks like Todoroki’s going to win nonetheless, even though he seems to be showing some signs of fatigue too.
I thought he’d overexert his arms again, but I guess I never thought of the more logical path, which would be “overexert the fingers again first”, huh?
That threw me for a bit. 1) Todoroki never says “now I’m angry”. He’s the cool guy, to make a lame pun. 2) That’s a cliched line only bad guys say. Then again, it could be a “you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back” moment.
Ice is powerful. So powerful, there aren’t many ice Pokémon, and I originally planned to have an ice-skater be the 6th ranger in Half-Paid Heroes, only to find that since I kept restructuring the lineup, the skater became too OP. (Also, because Half-Paid Heroes used to be a strictly girl-turns-into-magical-boy affair, the 6th ranger - Yuki - was a great big hinge on what came afterwards, so I’ve struggled with the storyline now that I’ve given it a more workplace SoL baseline.)
I always thought ice was also a salve to some extent, but with more destructive power comes a lessened ability to heal.
Todoroki looks like Bakugo now. Guess it can’t be helped, seeing as “explosions” are associated with “fire”.
“Such a doting father.” – I laiughed, because we just found out that’s blasphemy. It’s ironic, to use the proper term.
Block rubble is a sure sign that this is a sakuga fest. Wowee, last time I saw block rubble was ConRevo (as far as I can remember)! Thank you, BONES!
Hmph. Fanservice. If you like Shouto’s fanservice here, you’ll definitely like Free!, but I’m neutral on it. 15 year olds shouldn’t be so muscular…sure, it’s part of a hero’s job to be muscular if they’re physically fit, but fanservice of 15 year olds ain’t my thing, y’know?

I’m of the idea that Albus is a dude for commentary purposes, but I’ve seen lots of comments across the ‘net saying Albus is a girl. It seems this episode will get rid of whatever misconceptions I have about Albus’s gender once and for all.
When the wolf says she is closest to Him, who’s “she” exactly? Sorena? Sorena’s granddaughter?

I think the “I am a grown man” jokes are getting a lil’ old at the business end, but that’s because when I see drama I expect consistent drama.

As an action writer, that butt-kicking Heine did was perfect (albeit a tad slow). Then again, this show’s specialty is a SoL-style pace and I wouldn’t change that about it.
That trick Ludwig did was basically what Alciel did in Hataraku Maou-sama!, but because it was compressed into a shorter amount of time, it had little to no payoff.

Shunina’s reading something called Ningen Manzai. According to this website, Ningen Manzai is about a god from space who comes to earth and becomes human…then something about angels and another god. Even if you don’t learn the entire synopsis of Ningen Manzai, the book is very relevant, ain’t it? Also, Shunina’s using his seahorse bookmark from last ep, which is cute.
The discussion on Sansa reminds me of the Porygon incident…
“Hail to Humanity”? So that would mean…the title is actually Ningen Banzai…

Kado is unintentionally hilarious sometimes, like the “Dad! Dad!” bit there. The chestnut bit I found vaguely disturbing but that was because Shindo looked like he was gasping for air. For the “Dad! Dad!” bit in particular though, Kado’s gone all Summer Wars and that’s why it’s funny.
These jellyfish are really lifelike…but you get a sad feeling from this “date” scene. As if suddenly the staff finally give us a look into why Saraka is correct…you feel like this is all just an “all according to zaShunina keikaku” thing, and suddenly you see the tower known as humanity was knocked down as soon as Kado came.
So Saraka’s saying…the tale of Kado (the show) is a tragedy? Well, that’s a new take on this whole scenario…hey, wait. So Ward and Gonno (to a lesser extent) are the evil ones here?

LOL, so you’re going to get him to talk with drinks? I can’t imagine a drunk Shunina…but I can understand that with drinking culture, it’s probably the right way to go to get closer to someone. (Even if that “someone” is an anisotropic being.) Shunina may not understand “food” after all.
As much as I love the alien dork, he’s getting more and more sinister as the show goes on. From what I’ve read on Kado all over the ‘net, people have distrusted him since episode 1, but hey. That’s what we’re here for.
Shinawa was absent yet again, thank goodness.
The round object in the preview (it looks like a white sphere surrounded by blue chunks) is probably a Nanomishein, knowing this show.

Welp, we’re finally back to Dazai after referencing Souseki.
Huh? That part with the dancing guy with the mask has gone from live action to animated…so it seems like the staff of Tsukigakirei give an effort now.
The OP seems to evolve more as time goes by, which is interesting. A few eps ago, the sheet only said “title” but the title of this work that’s evolving is called 13.70. However, it seems to be by Azumi Osamu, and not Kotarou. (Or maybe that’s just a penname of Kotarou’s, based on his love for Dazai?) 13.70 is 75 mai (sheets) long.
Love is hard to describe, and I guess when you love someone it’s hard to put into words because of that.
Is the video going slower or did the animation budget get cut in half?
I’d assume “hayashi” refers to the rice.
So it’s not my imagination…the budget got skimped on! You can tell because they did the same almost still scene thing twice this ep.
Noting how dark the potato is, I’d say it’s sweet potato (purple).

Finally, here are the development we’ve been waiting for. Unfortunately, they’re paired with some really bad off model shots. Fortunately, they bother to give us the first kiss.
The fortune tags both say “I wish to be together forever.” (<-paused specifically to translate before subs came up)…CR tells me I was pretty bang on with my translation.
This ep’s ED convo is just a lovey-dovey couple fighting and saying “I love you more. No, I love you more” sort of thing, so don’t bother.
I got bored of these a few eps back, but since I have time right now, I went, “Why not?”.
Well, as much as I dislike the humour in these, I have to admit the moral in the Aira one was pretty good.
Well, finally Sakura gets some happiness. Good on her.
I don’t think I’ve seen a girl being called ippiki before. Ippiki is normally used with small animals, like dogs or cats.
The Roman and Ryouko (Sensei) ones are the worst of these, I just can’t ship them because the age gap is about 10 years. That’s a little too big for comfort, y’know?
That “Kotarou’s Parents” one actually made me laugh. It’s also a good insight into characters that don’t get developed much in the series. If I were an author (which I am, I just haven’t got any properly published books out there yet – the closest book I do have out there has no words…*hides in corner of shame*), I would have bonus content more along these lines.
