Also, I have a poor condition g1 a nuzzle and she’s so special to me. She was dirt cheap, all her hair is cut, dents and scratches all over her, pindots, dark marker spots, writing on her, faded symbol AND MORE and I decided not to restore her aside from a good washing. She was so much character, she’s been through so many adventures I could only speculate on. She’s so fucked up and I love her.

I’ve seen your posts and now I need hcs of Darry stress baking and the three of them just accidentally eating copious amounts of baked goods bc they’re all stressed about different things and after they’re done they’re like oh shit 😭🤢I think it would be cute and fluffy 🎞️

Okay first off I feel like Darry is the one who started it because he stress bakes

Likr he’ll bake enough to feed a small army in one night just because he’s really stressed about work and whatnot

But then the three of them are just sitting at the table like Pony was doing homework, Soda was doing something or other and Darry was stress baking and they all just started eating the food

Darry definitely hates it because he always feels so bloated and gross in the end because he prides himself on his body and he just feels like shit after eating so much

Sofa probably hates it too because I’ve put a headcanon out there that Soda gets bloated hella easily and he thinks it makes him somehow look ugly so he always just hides in his room for a few hours after

Pony’s always stressed as hell during midterms and finals eeek so he’s just studying while eating

All three of them have their heads in the clouds thinking about their stress until they realize they just ate enough for a small army aaaand it all hits at once

They just feel gross as hell and they’re all absolutely regretting it

Pony just slumps over on the table because he’s sleepy now while Soda goes to run off and hide and Darry just has his head in his hands

Then he realizes they probably should all just tell each other what they’re worried about and after a venting session they all just go upstairs and cuddle

If we’re going with vocal Soda tummy headcanon I know his body is NOT happy with the intake of all that shit

Like he’s bordering puking

Pony and Darry let him be in the middle since his stomach is the most sensitive and he probably needs the most doting a bf they know if it’s gotten to the point even soda is stress eating then it’s bad

pony is whiny as hell just because it hurts so bad and he’s sprawled on his back like a puppy until Soda helps him and rubs his tummy for him

Darry tried to keep quiet and not complain too much but he gets really hiccupy and burpy when he overeats so it’s high key obvious and he’s really embarrassed so Pony and Soda assure him it’s okay and to just not focus on the fact it’s embarrassing because “we’re all boys here”

Pony gets especially doted on though because he’s the baby and if you had big brothers like Soda and Darry they’d never let you feel an ounce of pain (none of this “darry is uncaring” bullshit here, darry cares more than he lets on, he’s just bad at showing it)

If any of them need to vent though the other two will listen and hold them when they cry

Darry assures Pony he’ll help him study for finals when he gets home and that no matter what he’s proud of him for just trying his best because his efforts are obvious

Darry and Pony also remind Soda that he’s real smart in other ways, like he could hotwire a car in gen seconds flat, and how he’s just so emotionally intelligent because they know Soda is real insecure especially post book when Sandy leaves him

And Pony and Soda probably force Darry to take a day off and if he doesn’t they’ll give him their puppy eyes that he can never say no to. So they spend the next day all just cuddling and reminding each other of their values and how much they love each other

Thank goodness I've found someone who can't stand Fluttercord. To be honest, I'm not too fond of Discord either. It always struck me as weird that the show seemed determined to sell him as this reformed villain who's changed for the better, and yet he's continued to do the same stuff he did as a villain. And let's not even get into the toxcity of his relationship with Fluttershy. "Keep Calm and Flutter On" is one of the worst episodes that's come out of My Little Pony! It's like this show was desperately trying to make you forget about the moral of "Griffon the Brush-Off".

yeahhhh I'm kind of in a weird place in all this because like. if the intent of the narrative was to explore that being born with cosmic power makes you unfit to wield it and an entirely unsympathetic unempathetic creature, they nailed it. Like, making this guy think hes always the smartest in the room while he's also bitter, petty, easily prone to jealousy and even controlling-- That is exactly what is correct to expect from a being of unlimited power that was born with it. In a sense, it would be clever exploration. ...But it's kind of not that, he's supposed to be one of the good guys and regularly fucks shit up on purpose for everyone, and that's just a weird attitude for the good guys to forgive. Celestia wanted him to use his powers for good, but I struggle to think of one example of him doing so. Even when the changelings took over, his powers were nullified, so he could have been replaced by an earth pony. And then the narrative goes to the thing of "He's only nice now because there's one girl thats cute and pretty that he simps for" And that is just kind of insanely fucked up?! Don't get me wrong, power imbalance can be a fantastic way to explore relationships-- But if I was Fluttershy I'd probs be terrified of having a yandere god that only listens to me because I give him attention, and the moment I decide I want relationships with other people, those people are gonna get turned into piñatas. Okay, tangeant almost over. Maybe this affected even more negatively than most because I watched a show called "Jessica Jones" Where the antagonist is an evil mind controling sadist, BUT, he has a huge crush on the protagonist, and she realises that if she were to sacrifice her own life to be with him, she could essentially trick him, if not convince him to use his insanely powerful powers of coercion to change the world for the better. ...And that's just horrific. Sacrificing your life to be the object of affection of a powerful being just because they might do good things with your presence, not out of their own volition. But hey, that's all subtext, the MLP text is generally lighthearted. (nevermind the finale in which discord literally endangers equestria for shits and giggles, and nevermind the fact that gen 5 proved that without fluttershy Discord would lose his shit and do deranged things to the whole world)

The voice acting is great, the character conceptually is great, but goddamn, why did they think that he's more worth redemption than the literal child? #cozyglowdeservedbetterfromthewriters

In my mind, Monoma knows how to pickpocket, do sleight of hand, roll a coin across his knuckles, all that good stuff :D I also hc him to have voluntary nystagmus. No particular reason, I just 100% think Monoma would use that skill to freak people out

Also I hc him to be friends with Hatsume Mei. Each time he visits he brings a whole packet of papers, diagrams, analytics of quirks and how they relate to their costumes, and Mei def eats it up EVERY TIME. She also has him try quirks she needs for the equipment whenever possible. They’re smart kids :>

What do you like seeing most in monoma fics/fan work and what do you want to see more of? Any relationships (romance or gen) you like? sleight of hand (and other assorted part trick) Monoma is near and dear to my heart, and i could definitely see him being able to do Some Sorta Nonsense with his body like voluntarily vibrate his eyes. i could see him being double jointed, too. (he is a Bendy Boy.)

ALSO the fact that Monoma and Hatsume never interacted in any meaningful way will haunt me until i die. they are so smart, and they are such freaks (/pos). their aura would have been so powerful. maybe too powerful? i guess Hori had to nerf them somehow.

as far as fanworks go, i am a massive fan of any fic that has Monoma showcasing his quirk. (for example, Learning Curve has a fantastic scene with a training exercise/mock battle that i frequently go back to because it is So Peak to me.)

as far as things i'd like to see more of, i'd kill for more introspective pieces of Monoma learning how to adjust after the war. (let me see him talk to Bakugo, who he watched die! let me see him talk to Aizawa, who tried to protect him!!!) i'm hoping some more of that will come with time as the anime draws closer to the end, but i suppose we shall see.

romance-wise, i'm big on Monoshin and have been since season 2. the fact that it used to be a rarepair floors me. (really played the long game on that one). that being said, i could honestly read about Monoma with almost any other student, his personality is just that much fun to me. apart from Monoshin, i've been seeing quite a bit of Timebomb and Monoma/Pony on my timeline, and i find both so incredibly charming.

platonically: Kendo. Shinsou. Tokage. Mei. Honenuki. Bakugo (especially after the war). ERI. Vlad and/or Aizawa. slap Monoma in an interaction with any of them and i am Locked In.

FINALLY, the Monoma family. (man, the Monoma family.) @smallvictorianchildwhofoundwifi and i have constructed pages upon pages of lore for these human disasters, but i'll try to keep it brief:

Monoma's dad (still need a name) - only ever agreed to have a child in the first place because his side of the family was pressing for it. resents Neito for reasons that i'll probably dig into later - but as long as Neito isn't actively making a mockery of the family name, his dad really can't be bothered to think about him.

Monoma's mom (Hiromi) [PRE WAR] - had Neito when she was young (around 21 years old) because, again, her husband's side of the family was insistent. she adored him at first sight; however, she has had to make a lot of changes to appease her husband's side of the family over the years, and it has turned her into a harsher, colder person overall. every once and a while, she'll be struck with fondness for her son, but it never lasts for long before she goes back to being made of ice. maybe also unconsciously resents Neito some for marking the end of her old life.

Hiromi (cont) [Post-War] - determined to reconnect with her son after almost losing him in the final battle. has made so many mistakes that it seems impossible, but Neito got his tenacity from someone, and it certainly wasn't his father.

Monoma's class knows next to nothing about his family. even Kendo, who has known Monoma for a long while, has precious little information to go off of.

some of the girls in Monoma's class stumble across a picture of Monoma's mother from one of her last modeling shoots, but when they ask him about her, Monoma just tells them that he has his mother to thank for his dashing good looks and leaves it at that. Ittaka - Monoma's old caretaker (and pseudo-older sister) - comes to visit him once, and his classmates briefly think that his real mother must have died until Kendo corrects them (because she may not know much about the Monomas, but she knows that they are all still kicking). but that's about all they've got.

tldr; trying to wrangle a straight answer out of Monoma regarding his family is impossible.

2) curly showing pony more of his culture or at least teaching him a bit!! it doesnt have to b a BIG thing, maybe just in passing curlys showing pony something from his culture, many ppl in the fandom think the shepards r connected to their culture but i dont rlly see it reflected in fics</333

3) pony being protective of curly🗣️🗣️ pony is canonically very loyal but i dont rlly see this goin on in fics bc ponys not presented w the opportunity to display it cause instead it goes to curly but cmon guys,,,lets branch out a bit here,,,,

generally i think small things like this added to papercut can rlly make a difference and make ur fic stand out (to me at least)

-italy bros are at the least gonna hit 2000 soon. Both are bumbling idiots who are more here to have a good time then anything. I'm convinced they're stronger then they make themselves to be (they caught England with a hole. Yes he dropepd in there but how did they get him into the cell? Venezianobbeat up Turkey once, too, and i think that was when turkey was stronger....and if you think about it, veneziano pretending to be an idiot means he can get away with everything. Literally. Even if he sneaks into a meeting room, him yelling about pasta is enogh to make the others go "ah hes at it again"

-China lmand the maid dress cosplay. Enough said.

-the Nordics, who are all over a thousnad and most are prob older. Denmark doesn't give a shit anymore, Norway goes along with everything becauae why not it's entertainment, Sweden is a memelord. Finland is probably a bit younger so he's a little more grounded, and so is Iceland- they follow the rest but i think they haave a bit more sense of not letting time just go by completely. -America and Canada are young and you can see it- they try to fit in with the rest but over or underdo it and are surprised at things like weekends passing by in a blink of an eye. Germany too, the three of them are babies and just don't quite get the joke sometimes, not for lack of trying.

-England is also up there and i mean. England and his brothers made up English TCG pokemon whatever

-france has long since accepted the idea of being a free spirit. He exists and contemplates and does his thing, knowing time will pass and he might as well try to do the little he can.

-we all know russia was hit one too many times by General Winter. Ukraine surprisingly seems to have her head, but Belarus definitely let the age get to her....just a little. I have a bet she's spent so long chasing Russia she doesn't really know how to stop.

-Poland also doesn't give a shit he just wants his ponies. Man's embraced modern life and decided to just take things as it goes. Lithuania would be dead from stressing at him if he wasn't immortal.

-japan is also pretty old but he is an outlier as far as im concerned becauae this man is a boomer whose besties are a bunch of gen Zs and he might as well be one of them. i think he's done better at the aging thing at least.

Hi Everyone!! Here are some more next gens for my Blossom Love AU. Darling's parents are Flim and Vellatrix and Sheila's parents are Flam and Nutaku. Darling and Sheila used to follow in their father's footsteps and try to become "The Flim Flam Cousins", But all of the scamming and guilt got to Darling and she no longer wanted to be apart of the "family business". Her parents imminently understood and told her that if she's no longer happy with her career, then she can distance herself from it if she wants. Darling got a job working at a small coffee shop in Ponyville meanwhile Sheila is trying to keep the "family business" alive and continuing to scam other unsuspecting ponies, much to her cousin, uncle and aunt's dismay. For you see, after Flim met and start dating Vellatrix, she naturally found out about Flim and Flam's schemes and she wasn't to fond of it at all. She talked to Flim about it and Flim decided to no longer support his and his brother's felonious actions any longer. Of course, his brother, Flam, wasn't to keen on stopping all their "hard work" and thus, a fight started between the two brothers, which resulted in them growing extreme hatred towards each other. After Flim no longer wanted to see his brother again, He and Vellatrix moved to Canterlot and started their own herb remedy business. Darling became a super sweet and generous mare after leaving the "family business" and is well-known for her countless charity drives and compassion to help others. She's also very loyal and honest with her friends and family, which helps others trust her more often. Meanwhile, Sheila is ruthless, mean and quite full of herself. She's also very greedy and enjoys flaunting her wealth to everyone by buying expensive jewelry and a fancy mansion in Manhattan. Sheila's also very self-centered and thinks she's deserves all the praise in the world and she's quite the gold digger as well. Darling and Sheila do visit each other, but not as often as you think as they still have some amount of hatred towards each other, feeling as if the other "betrayed" them. Majesty, serena, royal blue - princess celestia x mirror!sombra (he's from the IDW comics in case you're confused)

These three are triplets, surprisingly! They're the princesses of heart, soul and mind and are named after three ponies from G1. Legends say that if you were to come into contact with one of the sisters and give an offering, they would bless you with their abilities; majesty gives you the ability to sense emotions, serena gives you the ability to understand yourself on a spiritual level and royal blue gives you endless wisdom. They may seem like super elegant princesses but in reality they're just a bunch of dorks who argue while playing monopoly on family game night. Majesty is very kind and often acts as a peacemaker in most situations; serena is the most pompous of the three due to being the only one who's an alicorn and therefore being the most powerful (fun fact: serena's hair is inspired by usagi from sailor moon because she has the same name in the DIC dub of the anime, not to mention serena has sailor moon's tiara!) Lastly royal blue is more or less the quiet one and she spends most her time nose-deep in a book. I imagine her being kinda like shiver from splatoon 3 personality-wise because i can't think of a trio of characters with different personalities without thinking of those 3 mfs from sploon 3

Taffeta and taurus - princess luna x discord

Fun fact: i decided to ship luna x discord and make it part of my next gen because i saw a fancomic on deviantart when i was like, 8 where the two pull pranks on the ponies by giving them weird dreams! Anyways, taurus is the older one. They are the princess of the zodiac and is very stoic and calm, she takes things EXTREMELY seriously and has a hard time letting loose and having fun (also she goes by she/they, just so you know), she also has albinism and their design was inspired by princess tiffany from G1 because i think she's really pretty :3

Taffeta is the younger sister, she is named after a pony from G1 much like the other princesses though i imagine she goes by "taffy" as a nickname. Taffy isn't really the princess of anything yet so she's just vibin as a typical 16 year old girl (a direct character inspiration for her being pearl from spongebob) i imagine that she has acne and likes covering it up with face stickers....also she's pansexual because i accidentally used the pan colors in her design and thought "why not?"

Red rhubarb pie - pinkie pie x minty

Rhubarb is chocomint's older sister, since chocomint is inspired by the song "aoi chan is going to eat chocomint no matter what" by GYARI, and by extension the synthV character aoi kotonoha, rhubarb is inspired by aoi's sister akane. Her name is inspired by a food item in stardew valley and i imagine she often hangs around her aunt maud, her special talent is making CBD candies and she runs a cannabis shop where she often runs into daisy bell.

B.B. buttercup - rainbow dash x applejack

If i'm being honest, i only created this cutie because i wanted to make a pony based on the powerpuff girls! Her full name is "bubbly blossoming buttercup" and she's around 11-12 years old. Much like the ACTUAL powerpuff girls, she's very strong (ESPECIALLY for an earth pony) i imagine her personality being somewhat similar to that one theory about the powerpuff girls being 3 different parts of a girl named brenda or whatever that theory was about lol (fun fact: her name was inspired by the youtuber dollightful's character bibi bubbles ^w^)

Okay, what about Spike from mlpfim? What does he look like in your AU?

I imagine he looks a bit like this!

I'll be following almost the same lore as the show, where Twilight hatches Spike out of pure magic - thus the little star motifs about his body! I based his colors through Gen 1 Spike, where he is a warmer, almost reddish purple, because I felt like the cold lilac and greens didn't fit his caring and gentle personality much. Same with the greens, which are a bit more earthy.

Since Spike was hatched out of magic from a unicorn, I can see him exhibiting more 'pony-like' qualities: like his hobby of baking. I could see him being a bit more magical than other dragons as well. I can imagine little filly Twilight naming him Spike, because of the spikes on his head haha

For the exam, the immense power Twilight exhibited would get her many scholarships and offers from universities if she chose not to go to Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns. (Which, in my opinion, was just a way to find the perfect heir and not an opportunity for young foals to learn magic) Celestia would take interest in Twilight, but would not take her on as a her prodigy, as there is still much the filly needed to prove. Eventually, Celestia would move on from Twilight, as the stress of taking care of a baby dragon while a filly herself zapped up any time she had. She'd pass through school, and become a professor, but subconsciously, she blames Spike for ruining her chances to become Celestia's prodigy. Spike, loyal to a fault, would do anything for his adoptive mother, and goes along with it. He takes pride in being her number one assistant, after all. Spike knows Twilight loves him, which she does. They enjoy cocoa breaks after Twilight is done teaching; Spike laying by the fire in a plush bed while she reads her newest book.

In current AU time, Spike has yet to come to the conclusion that he is a dragon, since he could pass as a scaly pony if on all fours. He's just assumed Twilight has always been his mother, and he doesn't need anything more than that. He is beginning to get an idea, as Fluttershy asks him questions he does not have the answer to, but other than a limited understanding of what he is, there's no concern for now.

You there! Pokeverse creator! explain the general plot of Pokemon Iridium and the major differences in a simplified way!

well sure! truth be told iridium is kinda just me going “here’s how i would change the plots of pokémon stories if i had creative control!” and being very self indulgent with it, so it’s not like it’s one big overarching story, but i’d say one of the major themes is definitely legendary pokémon and how they interact with the world! i treat them more like gods than really powerful pokémon (you know, how green myths will have stories of the gods screwing around and messing with mortals all the time) because i think legendary pokémon are so cool and i like them :]

i crammed all the protagonists together on this canvas so there they all are but i’ll try to summarize the different arcs as best as i can

RED AND BLUE (gen 1): team rocket has taken over kanto and johto and fused them into The Rocket Empire. giovanni has captured the legendary birds and keeps them as pets. red tries and fails to stop giovanni from using mewtwo to unlock travel to alternate dimensions. he gets so sad about this he goes to live alone on a mountain

GOLD AND GREEN (gen 2): green, red’s kid friend, wants to get red down from the mountain. gold, the heir to team rocket (he’s basically like if gold and silver fused) tries to stop her from messing with the rockets. archer, a former rocket leader who defected, befriends green because they both wanna take down the rockets. red comes down from mt silver at the end, revealing the legendary beasts were protecting him up there

EMERALD (gen 3): may and her family (norman and zinnia) are the last of the draconids. archie and maxie are trying to expand the land/expand the sea. near the end of their evil plans they get possessed by groudon and kyogre who are mad that nobody worships them anymore (because they’re jerks). may and rayquaza work together to beat them. maxie dies during a cave in at the cave of origin so archie puts on a magical suit of armour and hunts down jirachi at the battle frontier to try and get three wishes to revive him, with the help of frontier brain lucy who wants to retire in a big mansion full of hunky boys because she’s sick of being a frontier brain

DIAMOND AND PEARL (gen 4): dawn and lucas are the human disguises of dialga and palkia who get sent down to earth every time giratina gets incarnated into another human vessel that’s about to cause trouble (it’s a banishment thing). in the past they were sent to defeat volo (legends arceus) but now they’re sent to defeat cyrus. cyrus ends up breaking the cycle by going into the distortion world and living there happily

BLACK AND WHITE (gen 5): rosa is a plasma researcher and sees colress as a father figure. her and n take a journey across a slowly-freezing-over unova. ghetsis and colress are secretly behind it using kyurem’s ice powers, but they’re using panic and fearmongering about the great freeze to get people to release their pokémon. rosa has a crisis of faith about her mentor

X AND Y (gen 6): zeena (daughter of looker and anabel) is about to become a real interpol agent, she just needs to solve the mystery of team flare in kalos. it’s a bunch of rich kids who believe beauty is the only important thing and that the beautiful should be the judge, jury, and executioner since they’re the worthy ones. in a dramatic twist it’s revealed that professor sycamore was the leader of team flare all along. when he tries to use yveltal to construct the ultimate weapon, yveltal and xerneas get so mad at him that they curse him to be stuck in between life and death

SUN AND MOON (gen 7): moon is a rocket empire refugee that moved to alola. her and lillie have to stop an emotionally unstable guzma from teaming up with the great magician lusamine and basically hunting the ultra beasts for sport. alola’s tradition hangs in the balance as both outsiders and frustrated insiders attack it. poni island gets burnt down. episode rainbow rocket happens where giovanni finally returns from his multiversal travels, revealing successful versions of every team leader so far (and some guy named raihan) that he’s poisoned with nihilego toxins to get them to work for him. moon and a defector (named twozma) kick their butts so hard that giovanni retires and kanto and johto get to be individual regions again

SWORD AND SHIELD (gen 8): leon is of royal blood, having descended from leonidas, the first king of galar. through a series of events, eternatus (a lovecraftian cosmic horror) possesses leon to use as his vessel in his ultimate quest to take over galar and absorb all the power on the planet. raihan has daddy issues.

SCARLET AND VIOLET (gen 9): thanks to sada and turo, paldea gets shattered across dimensions, so now there exists two versions of it: one stuck in the past and one stuck in the future. the ai counterparts of sada and turo have to help two kids, marisol and pedro, fix it and turn paldea back to normal. champions are evil. blueberry academy is evil. kieran turns his enemies into cursed masks

What is your favorite and least favorite My Little Pony art style in terms of toy design and show/other media design? What I mean is do you like how the ponies look in one medium but don't like how they look in another medium and vice versa.

I have no experience in critiquing toy designs but for animation designs, i liked the styles in both G3 and G4. But I bet you’re wondering by thoughts on the other gens. So, essay time!

G3 style cleverly adapts the old MLP G1 designs by keeping the ponies horse like with small, yet rectangular muzzles, small pointed ears, a stocky build yet streamlined enough to be easier to animate, detailed hair and doll like eyes to make them more expressive. There is a problem though, all the ponies share the exact same design with different colour schemes and cutie marks telling them apart. The only ones that break this is the unicorns and pegasi, which don’t get featured nearly as enough as the earth ponies. Now, I understand this is purely to save up on animated different body types and this is perfectly understandable, you don’t want your animators to work their fingers to the bone. But when all your characters are practically identical and the only way to tell them apart is colour schemes, that’s just bad character design. Simply changing up their hairstyles would make a huge difference

Case in point: these are the main cast (credit goes to @heckyeahponyscans for this scan) without their colours and they all look identical, save for the cutie marks.

G3 also has the same downside that G1 had: being so on model that it’s limited in expression (along with the disadvantage of budget direct to dvd animation) There are some characters that do work like with the regulars like Minty, Rainbow Dash cos they’re the most theatrical characters in the show but that’s it. When the ponies are on model, they look their best, but when the animators try to make them look in front view or be expressive, it ends up looking so off. If they had more skilled storyboard artists/animators, it would’ve fixed this issue cos the actual character design is fine, albeit very standard. It’s all down to awkward animation

I still love G3 cos it has great stories outside of the weird animation, but I would’ve loved more moments where the character animation was like this:

It just brings them to life a bit more.

Now G3.5 is another story. Because a lot of kids media went through the chibi-fication phase (see TTG, Care Bears Adventures in Care-a-lot) it only makes sense MLP would do this too but the added bonus is because of this drastic change, they make the ponies a lot more expressive. With the emphasis on bigger eyes and smaller bodies, it leaves room for more dynamic character animation

Granted there’s still moments where the character’s expressions are stilted and awkward cos this was from the same studio as OG G3 but it’s amazing how much a change in art direction can make a big difference. The ponies also get more customised hairstyles to fit their personalities from Rainbow Dash’s sophisticated ponytail (lol) to the studious twintails with the Y2K flower hairpins that Cheerile wears. The two younger ponies, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo are also drawn smaller compared to the others which helps give them more a unique silhouette.

Now G4’s design is the perfect marriage between expressive character animation and toy-centric cuteness. The ponies can look cute one minute and absolutely deranged the next and it won’t look like the ponies broke every facial muscle for doing so. And this has only improved as time went on. There’s a reason why there were so many reaction memes were made from this.

The character designs are much more stylised, with even smaller muzzles and anime-esque eyes, streamlined bodies, different hairstyles and body types are present and even cutie marks are much more detailed and clear. MLP before then never knew how to animate cutie marks properly.

While the heroines follow a simple, easily manufactured for tv character model, so many side characters have different body types from short like the CMC, stocky like Mrs Cake to tall and slender like Celestia and Luna. There’s even character models for old, withered ponies like Granny Smith or Grand Pear. And don’t get me started on villain designs. I think MLP G4 is the first time since G1 that it had unique villain designs. (Chrysalis, Nightmare Moon and especially Discord)

You can tell a lot of heart and passion the artists went into making a more gender neutral and diverse character design into this generation. I think the only downside is nitpicks: I wish the mane 6 had incorporated the unique character models that the other side characters have inherited

Finally: The only art styles I can’t stand is G1 and G5

G1 suffers from 80s TV animation which had even LESS BUDGET than direct to dvd shorts 20 years later, so if you thought G3’s animation was stilted, bruh you haven’t SEEN NOTHING YET. What’s worse is that the character are constantly drawn off model, because the character designs are copy pasted from the toys with very little changes and outside of colour schemes and wings, the ponies all look identical. Even the baby ponies don’t have their own character, let alone even colour schemes, they’re just reused designs of their mothers but drawn slightly smaller. It’s eerie seeing baby characters that are just direct clones of their parents. That is some Dolly the sheep shit.

I will give credit for having some wild villain designs (Erebus, Grogar and the Smooze) and even some unique pony designs from the Clydesdale ponies in one episode to the Big Brother ponies to even the Flutter ponies.

This combined with the many different species that inhabit Dream Valley compliments the fantasy setting of G1. But not surprisingly for a first gen, there’s a lot of room for improvement

And finally, G5. I haven’t watched enough G5 (I’ve literally watched the pilot movie and that’s it) to make a solid argument so take what I say with a grain of salt and personally… I’m not a fan. Nothing against 3D animated ponies. I think it’s a natural step up since 3D animation is a much more preferable medium in both cost-effectiveness and commercial appeal. However I’m not a fan of the more realistic look to the characters. While it’s still stylised, the eyes are much less pronounced, the bodies are more regularly proportioned and the teeth is oddly detailed. They look less like “little ponies” and more well, regular horses. It doesn’t help how G5 is trying so hard to keep its roots in G4 when it’s supposed to be its own thing cos the design philosophy of the show match the philosophy of FiM which was stylised above all else. This is why I prefer the 2D shorts much more.

In conclusion, in terms of story, I rank each gen:

1. G3 and 3.5

2. G4

3. G1

4. G1.5 (MLP Tales)

(Can’t comment on G5, haven’t watched enough to judge)

And most importantly, in terms of design and artstyle:

Introducing myself better cuz I'm obscure as hell

I'm Nix, a former fan of Lily Orchard. I keep up to date with all of her content and controversy. I'm 19 years old and a genderqueer Canadian lesbian. I feel relatively comfortable critiquing Lily and her content since there are laws within Canada protecting me and my content from getting taken down. I'm currently working on reviewing madhouse since I thought I should start my channel with something more lighthearted. It all goes downhill from here. I want to make Lily's more obscure/problematic content available to a wider audience so it goes under more scrutiny.
