I wondered if you could offer a piece of advice to someone just starting out on doing commissions. I noticed that your link for commissions goes to a different page. Is this done through Tumblr, or is it a separate domain? Would you mind explaining how you decided on pricing?

Yes, I'm a full time freelance illustrator for a few years now. My commission page here is quite outdated, completely forgot about it actually so thanks for the remainder to take a look at it...

If you just want to do commissions as a hobby/side-income for private people (no commercial projects), I would start pretty small and simple to get a feel for it. Drawing for someone else is a whole another thing and not everyone enjoys it. I personally always preferred to have very small batches and finish them all before taking new ones to avoid stress on either side. For pricing, you'll likely want to start relatively low and keep it chill and casual in the beginning, but do increase your prices bit by bit as your experience grows. Looking at other artists' prices around similar skill level/style can be a good starting point! It's often a lot of trial and error in the beginning, to find what works for you. It's all about finding a good balance so you both get a good deal out of it!

I used a separate site to list my commission pricing and terms of service, but you can also list them in a post or whatever you prefer, as long as they're clearly available to potential commissioners. You want to make it as easy as possible for them to get all the info and to know where to contact you! Some artists prefer to have forms that people can fill if they want to commission you, whatever works. I prefer to keep it simple.

I have some unfortunate news.

While it's not confirmed either way yet, it is likely that Season 2 will be Earthspark's final season.

Recent information has shown that he show has been, to put it quite frankly, a flop. By their own fault, Hasbro has only lost money from it. Earthspark was badly marketed, had mediocre toys accompanying it, and was hardly ever advertised-- not to mention the major review-bombing done by transphobes online after their discovery of its queer representation. All of this makes it highly unlikely that Hasbro will even attempt to continue the show after Season 2. (Edit: Check reblogs for clarification.)

I'll keep you updated on any further information.

Life as a JGY stan is so hard because sometimes I want to make posts about the ways his very justified paranoia turns against him sometimes, rare moments where I think being more trusting or vulnerable would have helped but he felt like it couldnt, or talk about how his brutal survival instinct intersects with society's existing bigotries in a such a way that most of his violence is actually aimed at people lower on the ladder than him, with people like Jin Guangshan being the exception not the rule. Because he's a fascinating character and these parts of him are interesting!

But when I do that I have to live in perpetual fear of the moment that it escapes its target audience and someone takes it to go "Yeah he's a monster who fucked over everyone and is incapable of love! I wish he was killed earlier and his death was a thousand times more painful 🤪"

I mean, take my last example. Due to existing hierarchies it is, at any point, easier and safer for jgy to harm people less powerful than him instead of more powerful than him, even if the more powerful are the ones threatening his safety in the first place. Even knowing how it harms him and while working against it, Jin Guangyao is not immune to internalizing the mindset of the world he lives in. Even when killing Jin Guangshan- one man- it ends up costing the lives of 20 sex workers. You think I can bring up the sex workers in this fucking fandom? You think that will go over peacefully? The well has been so thoroughly poisoned here it feels like any conversation around morality automatically turns into a courtroom to determine a sentence for this fictional fucking character who's already dead.

I'm trying not to be furious. I'm not even in this fandom. I only discovered Yaelokre's music a little while ago (because I'm not on TikTok, perhaps) but within a couple of days I saw the two ends of the spectrum. Someone singing Yaelokre's praises, and someone attacking the creator on a personal level. And after looking into it, they did nothing wrong at all? They just had human limitations and boundaries? I am sick to death of the way modern fandom behaves like a plague. They descend on something, completely consume it, and move on. Leaving nothing but hate, spite, and the ruination of someone's beloved project in their wake. It's over in no time, but the emotional devastation is immense. We need to reflect on our behavior towards artists (especially small, independent ones) and do better. We literally treat artists the way "Nice Guys" treat women. The difference is, Nice Guys are almost universally seen for the petty, entitled, cruel and insecure people they are. Hey everyone, listen up. YOU ARE NOT AS NICE AS YOU THINK YOU ARE. You are not "responsible for an artists' success." You are a ticking time bomb ready to rip them apart at a moment's notice. Either because they did something human, or just because you're suddenly bored with them. It's well past time to work on ourselves as people. Because this, is devastating.
