It was ana amzing find when I was writing my character Belladonna Black from Shadows of Deception who is hypoglycemic. What an amazing source!

The Symbolism of Flowers by @novlr Yeah! Leopold knew what he was talkign about, every flower has a meaning and it is entirely possible to send some a bouquette that translates to 'Fuck You' btw it consists of geraniums (stupidity), foxglove (insincerity), meadowsweet (uselessness), yellow carnations (you have disappointed me), and orange lilies (hatred). it would be quite striking! and full of loathing. THE MORE YOU KNOW. This blog is also a fantastic source for writers.

week 2

expanding on previous concepts and creating new mood baords for new concept (mouse POV) + dino refrences

story boarding these concepts + story baording 360 scene

had not story boarded before, great opertunity to also practice writing, perspective and enviroments

I used this video to understand story boarding better. I chose it because its someone with experience and its a movie i care about a lot, i think it builds suspense really well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPrkxj2MyZI

the story boards werent very detailed in these videos because thier team already has a story and a setting they are going with so they know what the characters look like and where they are but they just need to know who does what when. We dont have that yet, i want it to be clear what the enviroment looks like, what the lighting should be like and what the general mood should be so while still applying story boarding methods i will add more detail.

I dont get to work with camera movement much as the player will be positioned in one spot but i can mess with perspective

With the last render i did with the wounded herbivore i felt like i really didnt do a good job of conveying the mood with that drawing. so i decided that to try and set a mood better it migth help if i dont work with color first to make it less confusing and cluttered for now. I remebered a group project from a while ago where one of the artists sketched the scene first in gray scale. a big inspiration of mine is RJ Palmer so i trurned to his artstation for some inspiration and looked for a couple of gray scale tutorials as i have never done this before. i do render my art sometimes but usually not with backgrounds and generally with colours immediately.

(the last render i have done. It works for what i was trying to do but its low on contrast, a bit bland and definitely not what I need for what i want to achieve now)

Grey scale paintings work great to show the lighting conditions. So to make sure the client and my team understood my concepts i set out to create grey scale paintings of posible scenes in the experiece.

that video is great but i didnt want to start my process how she did, its too harsh for what i was going for, i migth aswell just make a rough sketch instead. So i looked for another method and found one more to my liking https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bN2BggfFTgk

he starts with a sketch and builds the mid tone first and then throws the shadow ont there and sculps forms out of those base shapes.

As mentioned, this is my first time painting like this. i started with the shark as water disperses light in a way that is a lit softer and i thought it would make for a good starting point to get a bit more confident. I felt it was lacking some movement so i added fish that could add a nice shimmer. I used refrences for anatomy and proportions for the animals from google images, readablitly, aireal perspective (values based on distance, thing sget lightter the further they are from the camera)

then i started on the carnotaurus and how it could look as it aproaches you with the look of a hungy lion. i was excited to try some harsher lighing and a background. i did the first sketch with hardely any refrences and realised he looked far too much like a T.rex when carnotaurus have far slimmer heads.

after finding a couple of skull refences i rebuilt the head and adjusted some more proportions. which was better but it was still lacking mood and atmosphere so i looked back at RJ Palmers work and looked at some grey scale painting tutorials from people that create art i find apealing and that have experience. You might also notice that im using high contrast lighting on the animal aswell as the other objects, breaking the readability rule a little bit. I did this because i was reminded of tigers and how they camouflage and i thought that would look really cool, i still made sure he stood out from the background ofcourse.

Though its not done it was great practice. I will finish it in my free time later as i have to move on and do other work and its sufficient as concept art that conveys the lighting and mood i was going for for now.

Chase:

.One of Jackie's and JJ's cgs

.Jackie calls him Papa

.In a queer platonic relationship with Marvin

.Calls Jackie Little Man and JJ Dapper Dan

.He physically cannot be the stern one.  The Littles give him puppy dog eyes and he melts every time

.Having the Little around has actually helped with his mental health.  He's even been allowed to visit his own kids!

.Whenever Jackie comes over with a knew scrape or cut, he puts on a mock serious face and (in his best doctor voice that he got from watching House MD multiple times on repaeat) goes "what's the damage?" Upon which Jackie will giggle and request the superhero of the day. 

.Absolutely spoils his boys (in both affection and gifts)

.Whenever JJ wants to have a tea party, he'll let the little dress him up in all sorts of crazy outfits.  Anything to make the baby smile. He even makes some tea before hand (with the help of marvin) so it's cool enough for the baby to drink out of his special tea party bottle

Marvin:

.One of Jackie's and JJ's cgs.  Jackie calls him Dada

.In a Queer platonic relationship with Chase

.Laid back mostly, but has to be the stern one in their little family

.Uses his magic mostly to intertain the Littles, but he has been known to use his magic to drag Jackie into the tub. 

.Despite being the "iron" firs tof the family, the iron is more like brittle chocolate made to look like iron.  He'll do anything to see his boys happy.

.He has a strong distrust of Anti.  But, he trusts Henrik.  So, for now, he'll allow Anti to have playdates with Jackie.  But he'll be keeping an eye on him.

.Loves to play pretend with the kiddos.  The get the dress up trunk out and (ever the creative souls) he and Jackie will come up with stories for the two, three, or four of them to play together

.he makes pretend better by making illusions for the kids.

Henrik:

.He is the cg of Anti

.Possibly the only one who can handle Anti

.Gentle parent with a stern voice.

.His favorite show that Anti watches is Doc Mcstuffins.  He regularly sits down with the toddler to watch it.

.He tries to find better ways to let Anti vent his more destructive tendencies, like tearing paper into shapes or eating cherry jello with his fingers

.Has a tendency to mutter to himself in German while getting a sleepy toddler either down for a nap or up from one.

.He hardly ever looses his temper with the little, even when he's throwing a tantrum.  He just makes sure there's nothing around the little could use to hurt himself or others, let's him scream it out, then scoops him in his arms so they can talk about it.  This almost always ends up in the toddler falling asleep against him, having tired himself out both from the tantrum, and the big talk afterwards.

.He loves to spend time with Anti.  Whether that be reading, playing, teaching him things, or watching TV together.

LITTLES

Jackie

.One of Marvin and Chase's Littles

.Usually sits at around 4-6 years old

.He always has scraped knees and elbows, but he almost never cries.  Just runs over to his Dada and Papa with a big grin asking for a superhero bandaid.

.He adores his baby brother, and does everything he can to help with him (even at the expense of his parents.  They never stay mad at him though, since he was trying to help).

.Hates getting into the tub, hates getting out of the tub. 

.Tends to forget to pick up his toys, but his cgs are there to help him out.

.A very affectionate little boy. 

.He and Anti don't really get along, but not for his lack of trying!  (And he will continue to try until the toddler likes him!)

.He loves playing pretend! He normally plays a super hero (because they're the coolest), but sometimes he'll be the knight. Or, if JJ wants to be the knight, he'll be the princess!

Anti:

.Henrik's little, Calls him Vatti

.Usually sits around 2-3 years old

.Likes to cause problems on purpose, especially at the expense of others. 

.He's mischievous by nature.

.Add in teolportatiin powers and you've got a recipe for disaster.

.At first, he tried to push Henrik away by being extra mean to him, but the doctor didn't budge. 

.He has so many dark, menacing, and down right unsettling toys.  But his favorite is his Lambie plushy from Doc McStuffins. 

.If he looses her, he wails and the meanness crumbles and he wails until his Vatti gives him Lambie and lots of hugs.

.affectionate to one (1) person, and that person is Henrik.

.Jackie's cheerful energy and warm personality unnerve him, so he plays extra pranks on him.

.He likes squishing jello between his fingers, but he hates the clean up that happens afterward. 

.Throws tantrums.  Henrik just let's him get it all out before going to talk calmly with the little.

JJ:

.Chase and Marvin's youngest little

.usually around 0-1 year old

.he doesn't talk.  Usually opting to make graby hands or pat his cgs when he wants attention or wants something. 

.depending on where his headspace falls, he'll sometimes sign what he wants.  .Absolutely adores his baby dolls.  He likes to push them around in the little carriage.  It's a great way for him to get exercise.  She put him infront of the carraige and hand him a baby and he's entertained for hours

.loves bath time!  He likes splashing around in the water (bonus points for the fact he isnt the one who has to clean the bathroom after bath time)

.he doesn't throw tantrums.  Instead, he hiccups and cries (though, this is fairly uncommon.  He's usually pretty happy).

Hey so two things things, one anons arent on lol and two can you make an addition to the writer's sign up sheet for what type of art they would like to work with(recieve??) Like what Thuri did last time? I have a friend that would like to join but they're hesitant that they might get something like a collage of pictures (mood baord??)while they spend his time writing 15k

Thank you for letting me know about anon mode, I’ll turn it on after this ask is posted. Yes, art type preferences will be on the second check-in to make sure writers are getting art they’re comfortable with, and artists aren’t paired with anyone who might be surprised by the medium they use.

(I will say, though, as someone who makes moodboards--they can be hard work! Some moodboards I’ve sweated over as much as I sweat over something 15k. As long as people put effort into the art, I think it’s great art. There’s no level of skill or medium barrier here, as long as everyone tries their best. I’m not sure if I’m misreading tone here, in which case my apologies, but. I get a bit protective over artists.)

TO CREATE MY LOOK BOOK FOR FASHION FUSION NOW I HAVE BEEN INSPIRED BY MY MOOD BAORD AND HAVE DRAWN LOOKS TO RECREATE DIFFERENT LOOKS FOLLOWING MAKEUP AND HAIR STYLE TRENDS FROM 2020. ALSO DESIGNING A NUMBER OF OUTFITS TO STYLE AND WEAR IN MY BRAND COLOURS STYLED IN A NUMBER OF WAYS. I SET UP MY BACKGROUND WITH A WHITE WALL COVERED IN A BLACK FISHNET MATERIAL TO CREATE MORE OF A TEXTURED BACKGROUND FOR MY PHOTOGRAPHS. THEN SET UP MY PHONE IN A GOOD PLACE TO GET THE BEST OUT OF MY BACKGROUND. I THEN SET OUT TO CREATE MY MAKE UP AND HAIR LOOKS. FRIST CREATING THE LOOK THEN TAKING A NUMBER OF PHOTOS AT DIFFERENT ANGELS TO SHOW THE LOOK OFF AND TO REALLY BROADCAST IT. THEN GOING THROUGH AND CROPPING AND EDITING MY PHOTOS.

M O O D    B O A R D S

Today I create mood baords. They were meant to be seperated into aesthethic, colour palette and materials. However they turned out more holistic then and they are all quite varied but I like the way that they have come together and all link. I believe the gender bending aspect of my project can be seen clearly in the boards and that’s key for me. I feel like my mood boards abilities have got better over time with the help from people in the class. I’ve learnt to strip back what I put on the board and to try and think about what I am putting on the boards to make sure they tell a story.
