okay so. deltarune spoilers for newest chapters, i know ur not in the fandom but for the ppl who are

so the game has two big routes and one of the routes is the weird route, where the player has to do all sorts of contrived shit to access it, i remember when ch2 dropped and everyone didnt believe it bc it sounded too much like a creepypasta but it was real. it involved manipulating your childhood friend/party member to the point where she ended up freezing her friend so now he cant wake up anymore.

theres a new scene in the new chapters where it could be interpreted as a SA allegory.

This scene was basically just the player forcibly putting a thorned ring on the character you were manipulating then it cuts to black and shows a small sprite of a rose wilting.

note that it just shows this. I wont deny that it felt really on the nose even if its up for interpretation, but it didnt like. imply or show any Actual SA.

But people still complained, saying how could Toby show this on a game thats rated *checks* T for Teens and up where children could see.

So they changed the wilting rose to a red dot, which funnily enough, just seemed to make things worse because how could Toby not put two and two together and realize that the scene could come off as an SA allegory etc etc.

Idk man, I don't really care about the wilting rose graphic or what it implied when they changed it. But the game didn't show any sexual assault content or even imply it, it was still just one character forcing another character to do something they didn't want. Which is awful but has been present from the previous chapter and still not actual SA or even implied it. Like maybe alluded to it metaphorically, but its not like it actually happened.

People are free to interpret it as an SA allegory but its still just an allegory. And the scene only happens if you go out of your way to find it in the weird route. It doesn't happen in a normal route if you're just playing casually. You, the player, have to backtrack multiple times to find it and do really specific things and pick really specific dialogue options thats hard to come by in a normal playthrough. It's something that the player has to willingly choose to go through and actively search for.

It also just reminded me of the Jasper and Lapis discourse in the SU fandom if you remember that lol. Should SU have been rated above T and up too.

Sad Cypress, I think! That said I have a nasty habit of reading multiple (up to a hundred) books at the same time, reading one chapter then moving on to the next book - repeat - cycle once I'm through with all of them.

I could make an entire reading blog about the books I read honestly (I study Philosophy, never shutting the fuck up is a particular talent of mine) but I'd rather be an obsessive weirdo about my One Piece loves :)

a scene that you don’t want to write is a scene you don’t want to read. don’t write stuff you don’t want to read.

me, personally: wait until the scenes that get you to that first initial scene you were excited about are just as interesting as that scene too. it won’t be the first, second, or third thing you think of. if u have a scene you really want to write, write that, and keep writing only those exciting scenes that come to you. eventually you have a million interesting scenes for your fic and they become puzzle pieces for you to arrange and then eventually the strings come together and you realize you really do have an interesting way to get to that original scene, and you’re just as excited to write it, if you haven’t already written it when you were brainstorming other scenes earlier in the writing process that you didn’t even realize could carry your story like that.

It’s me. We’re okay. Just ran into some trouble. Motel California is officially history though.” She sighs. “It’s a long story. I’ll tell you when I get home. But we’re all okay and we still have Barrett and we’re still headed to the Silver Cells.” She gets the last part out all in a rush, hoping to pre-emptively halt any requests for her to turn back. “Thank God.” She hears a sound of creaking wood, and some kind of faint mumbled voice in the background. He’s at the church. Probably lit a candle for me as soon as he heard the signal came in. “Maira told me about the distress call. And told me not to call and distract either of you.” He chuckles weakly. “She was right.”

The minute I heard that song, the only thing in my head was the mental image of John, as soon as he realized a distress signal was coming in from Sierra's last known location, rushing to the closest church to pray for a miracle, because the one thing he can't bear is to lose the only piece of his brother he has left.

Don't torment yourself *too much* about the locked room puzzles. Think about them, sure, but you aren't really supposed to solve them individually. Arguably not even on an episode basis.

don't worry i'm trying not to! like obviously i am thinking about the logistics of how it was done etc but i think the "who" and "why" are more interesting and to get to those you don't really need to know exactly how a room was sealed from the inside - i'm focusing more on exploring the suspects and the other stuff than specifically the locked room, so please don't think i'm sitting there spiralling about a bedroom door's chain lmao.

The group confronts Kagha about her connection to the Shadow Druids. Sage is almost glad when the fighting starts; having to listen to Kagha defending her choices is grating on their nerves.

The fight ends predictably: with Kagha, the Shadow Druids and whoever else joined her side dead. Rath isn't happy and neither are most of the other druids. Sage doesn't particularly care at that point. The tieflings won't have to worry about getting kicked out before Sage and the others manage to take out the goblin threat anymore. The kids are somewhat safe for now.

When they leave the grove again, Wyll speaks up: "I have to say, I'm a tad surprised you didn't try talking her out of it. You've been surprisingly successful so far whenever you do."

Sage looks back at him, then past him at the gate receding in the distance. They shrug. "Even if I had convinced her, it probably wouldn't have changed the beliefs of the others there. And besides, she was trying to get a child killed. If we hadn't intervened that first time, Arabella would probably be dead. I don't forgive that. A better person might be glad if she changed her ways but I don't care."

They turn back, leaving the grove further behind them.

"I suppose you could be right," Wyll says, voice trailing off.

Sage shrugs again.

For everyone's sake, they hope Halsin will be alive and actually able to bring the druids back to their senses.

For some reason, Sage had always assumed druids were kinder people than most. The whole connection to nature thing and all that. Of course, that assumption had been quickly proven wrong. We don't allow drow in here this, foulbloods and outsiders and parasites that. They scoff. "Let's hope this Halsin is a better guy than most of the druids we've met so far."

On that point at least, they can all agree.
