Meeting Cattington--- an Eldritchrune fan scene I was given the OK. My creative juices shall now flow.

I was allowed to write. So now I will write. (and sketch stuff bc Lynx's Eldritch Catti/Jockington is so friken fun to draw.)

Meeting Cattington

Tracking a beast was harder than it looked.

From some sketchy information off a Darkner in this new realm, Kris and their friends had been searching the area outside of a settlement for any new lead. Apparently there'd been another Eldritch beast lurking around in the surrounding area. So at Ralsei's urging, they'd decided to go and seek it out, both to recruit a new party member and to prevent a potential attack.

And if Kris had to put up with any more, they'd officially go insane.

The newest addition to the party in particular, Berdly, was proving a real headache. Sure, he was helpful at times, but he seemed to be using this opportunity to rattle off knowledge that only he seemed to have any idea of. They'd been putting up with it since they rescued him from Queen, but they could not take any more of it.

"Ralsei. Please. Is there an arcane command for "shut up?" they asked, grabbing his shoulders and feeling the slight warmth of the flames they knew to be beneath his robe.

"I-- I don't believe there is---" he started to say.

Kris groaned. "Uuugh how do you listen to him!? I am seriously regretting taking him along."

"I can think of better ways to say 'shut up' than your weird little magic commands," Susie quipped from nearby.

"Please don't kill Berdly."

"Don't kill Berdly," the annoying Eldritch bird in question agreed.

"Oh no," Kris whispered under their breath. "We summoned him." Then, louder, "Berdly, can you shut it for a bit? I'm really stressed right now."

"Of course! I will gladly deprive you of my invaluable information for the time being! I apologize for any stress I may have--"

"Hey bird brain, when someone says shut up, they mean do it without any monologuing!" Susie complained.

"Shutting up," he muttered.

Aside from Berdly, there were also environmental considerations to take into account. The entire area was covered in pointy, rocky cliffs. Kris had fallen off at least two already (thank angel for Ralsei's soul revival). It was also cold. Really cold. And there were lots of hostile enemies (as usual). And now they were scouring a cliffed area attempting to track a beast.

Just then, something in the air seemed to... shift. There was no other way to explain it than a shift. And everyone in the party felt the unmistakable sensation of being watched. And one other thing...

"Guys?" Noelle asked. "Am I crazy, or did it suddenly get a lot... darker?"

Indeed, it was darker out. Too sudden, even for the Dark World. So dark, in fact, that all Kris could see in the dark were the glowing eyes and feathers of Susie and Berdly. In this unnatural darkness, they tripped over a rock, falling on their face. Fortunately, they weren't hurt, but it did cause Ralsei to stop and help them up, an apologetic look glowing in the gloom. "Kris! I'm so sorry! I forgot you don't have darkvision." He removed his hat, revealing the green-and-white glowing fire demon. This side of him scared Kris, but this time, they were grateful for the light.

However, a second source of light, too bright and harsh even for Ralsei's flames, cut through the dark. It was bright, and round, and... as it bounced away off the cliff, Kris could make out the unmistakable shape of a ball the kids at Hometown used to play with a lot. If they were remembering correctly, that was called... a soccer ball? Weird.

A second one bounced from nowhere, traveling at a fatal speed. It narrowly missed Kris, and bounced off the cliff again.

"Kris! This has to be the beast!" Ralsei shouted. "Be careful, the terrain and the darkness will make this challenging! But I'm always here if things go wrong!"

With that reassuring thought, they reached out their hand towards where the soccer balls had come from and shouted the command for "stop".

A third ball narrowly skimmed the top of their head, bounced off a rock, and hit Susie in the side. She roared in pain, "Why didn't that work?! Aren't your commands supposed to be a 'no negotiation end all?"

"Maybe it doesn't work because I can't see it?" they called back.

"Whatever it is, stop it! I've already had enough of this thing."

Kris decided to try the direct approach. They called out to the shadows, "Look! We just want to talk! And if it's my soul you're after, forget it!" They jerked a thumb toward Ralsei. "It belongs to him. Not me. And certainly not you! So this is going to take forever unless you---"

A soccer ball hit them square in the chest.

Fortunately, it wasn't as fatal of a speed as they'd judged it to be. Just knocked the wind out of them. What would however be fatal was the rapidly approaching ground: the ball had knocked them off the cliff. They braced themselves to hit the rocks at the bottom and be splatted into a Kris puddle, but they looked up and saw they had a far more painful way to go out in store for them.

The ball, or a second one, had dislodged a chunk of rock from the cliff, that was rapidly falling toward Kris. They sighed. Death was more of a nuisance than anything at this point. Sometimes it was really painful, but other times in their final moments before Ralsei brought them back, they could think something like, Oh! So that's what being stabbed in the gut feels like. Interesting.

So now, they braced themselves for impact as they lived through the novel experience of having their body crushed by a giant rock.

Kris felt the tug of death that was all too familiar, then another tug that was Ralsei pulling them back.

As they got up, a voice rumbled from the shadows, sounding vaguely like a cat purring, but with the subtle reverb of the Eldritch beasts. "Hm. Not bluffing."

A pair of yellow eyes blinked from the darkness, and a second voice spoke. "If we kill it enough we can, get it eventually."

A soccer ball materialized again, hurtling towards them. Kris called the "stop" command in the general direction of the eyes, and to their relief, it worked this time. The ball disintegrated inches from their face.

"You can, speak to us?" said the second voice, with utter disbelief. It was sibilant and smooth, like a snake, but without the hiss on the S you'd expect from one.

"Yes," Kris agreed. They indicated Ralsei again. "He taught me. It's also how he has control of my soul."

"Shame," the cat voice said. The shadows let up, and a catlike silhouette jumped down from its position on a crag. It looked like an outline of a cat drawn by someone who only vaguely remembered what one looked like, except for the tail, which had the yellow eyes on it and was lashing far too expressively to be that of a cat.

When it reached the light, Kris's eyes went wide.

This was the most visually stunning beast so far. One one half of its body, it was a white-furred cat with cosmic purple designs scattering across it, and a perpetually closed eye. On the other, it was a shadowy void, with multiple white, reflective eyes and a sharp-fanged smile. Its tail was a bright green snake with the same galaxy patterns. It had long, lethal-looking claws on five-toed paws, and a swirl that looked like a universe model Kris had seen when they were younger floated above its head. Rings, gold on the void side and silver on the cosmic, glinted in its ears.

"Whoa.." they whispered.

"Yeah it's a shame," the snake tail said. "We could've gotten, a really cool spell from your soul!"

"Cool... spell?" Kris asked, remembering they were talking with the beast.

"Souls are power," the cat explained, bending down so close to Kris that they flinched a little, but it only sniffed, then withdrew. "Yours is strong."

"So you make spells out of souls?" Kris asked. The snake tail nodded. "Well, then, hear my proposition."

The beast settled, laying down to listen to Kris.

"I'm headed to the Light World."

The cat cocked its head, interested. "Why?"

"Retribution," Kris replied, hoping it wouldn't ask them to elaborate. To their relief, it didn't. "If you couldn't get my soul... how does lots of others sound?"

"Lots of others?" the tail asked, interest clearly peaked. "I'm, interested."

"If you accompany me, and do what I ask, then you can get those other souls," Kris continued. "And other spells."

"A bird in, the hand," the tail said doubtfully.

"Would I lie to you?" Kris asked, annoyed (and surprised the beast knew that expression). "When I'm being faced with a deadly Eldritch beast?"

"No," said the cat. "You aren't lying. I can tell. We'll accompany you, human," it continued, rising to its paws and shooting an annoyed glance at its snake tail.

"Kris is fine," they replied.

"Kris, then."

"You are?" they inquired.

"Catti," the cat said. "I'm Jockington," the tail chimed in. "Cattington, combined."

Cattington walked ahead a little. The other beasts looked very confused. As Kris watched Cattington integrate with their other friends, Ralsei suddenly patted Kris on the shoulder, making them jump. "Well done!" he said with a grin. "You recruited another beast, and I'm sure those Darkners will be happy to have them gone!"

Kris said nothing, but nodded. The magic Cattington had was going to be quite valuable.

"Yes, well done!" said Berdly, flying up. He kept rambling, rambling, rambling... until suddenly he abruptly stopped talking. His beak moved, but no sound came out.

Kris looked over. Catti had raised a paw, grinning ear to ear. It was evidently clear she'd made Berdly stop. Kris returned the grin. The magic was going to be quite valuable indeed.

I know your not big on shipping, so I wanted to ask,

What are your favorite strictly platonic relationships in UTDR?(besides Lancer and Susie obvs)

Ooooh, this is an interesting question! I haven't thought too much about it, but there are some platonic relationships I do like. These aren't in any particular order :P.

First is Susie and Kris! I really like seeing Kris and Susie slowly bond together over time. At the beginning of the game, Susie bullied Kris to no end, but they're honestly legitimate friends by now, and I'm sure their friendship will only increase the more the game progresses.

Next is a bit of a controversial one, but I really do like the relationship between Kris and Spamton. Sure, Spamton tries to kill Kris and their friends by the end, but for some time, Spamton was a silly little man. Did Spamton have malevolent intentions? Yes. But Spamton doesn't try to outright harm Kris until he turns into NEO, at least from what I remember. For a while, Kris is just interacting with a desperate and corrupted salesman.

Another platonic relationship I like is Noelle and Berdly, and by extension Noelle and Kris. Noelle is honestly a character who gets along with everybody, and I really respect that. Berdly seems like the type who doesn't have many friends, so being buddies with a kind and patient person like Noelle is definitely positive. And Noelle and Kris have known each other for quite some time! They used to hang out a lot from what we know. Some more background on their friendship would be cool to see!

This next relationship isn't really positive lol, but I LOVE how Swatch and Rouxls Kaard get along, or should I say DON'T get along. Most of it is due to Rouxls Kaard's arrogance and silly nature. I don't think we've seen those two characters interact directly--again, at least from what I remember--but boy, I would REALLY like to see that.

Another controversial platonic relationship is Jevil and Kris, Susie, and Ralsei. Jevil was definitely dangerous and certainly could have killed those three--I for one had to spend hours to get through his boss fight--but I don't really believe it was of purely malevolent intent. I think Jevil was trying to show them the truth, was trying to help them be free. Jevil had long since been insane, and his perception of right and wrong was twisted. And in the end, if you battle him the right way, he warns you about Queen before any other character. Nice!

Sticking with Jevil, I REALLY like his backstory with Seam. I can't say for certain if Jevil and Seam were legitimately IN a relationship--hello, Seavil fans--but for the sake of this post, I'm going to assume they were just friends. Close friends maybe, but friends. The pain of having to lock Jevil away must have been soul-crushing for Seam. Those two worked together, and knew each other really well. It's a shame their friendship had to end in such a somber way.

Rouxls Kaard. Rouxls Kaard and literally everyone. No, I will not elaborate.

This is more of a "hoping they become buddies later on" platonic relationship, but man, I really like the dynamic of Spade King and Susie. I really think Spade King is similar to Susie personality-wise, and they could genuinely get along if not for the current...issues put in place (Spade King despises Lightners, Susie despises Spade King, etc). But even now, seeing those two go back and forth is still refreshing with every playthrough.

This is definitely another controversial one: I really enjoy the dynamic amongst Spade King and his citizens in Chapter 1. The Darkner citizens fear Spade King to no end, and most are forced to attack your party. Well, all of them are forced, but not every Darkner outright attacks you. We even see a Rudinn who refused to fight get imprisoned later that same chapter. It's super sad, but incredibly interesting at the same time.

And for the final few platonic relationships, we have the one and only Lancer! I won't mention Lancer and Susie again, but I will mention other platonic relationships.

Since I've already mentioned this before in my Lancer document, I'll simply state it here: Lancer and the Darkner citizens in Chapter 1 has got to be one of the saddest dynamics ever. It's even making me sad thinking about it :(.

Lancer and Kris/Ralsei. Lancer may like Susie the most, but he gets along with Kris and Ralsei too! Both Kris and Ralsei do their best to treat Lancer well and be as kind and friendly to him as possible, and I really like that. Lancer deserves those three, for sure.

Lancer and Queen! What interests me most about this particular one is the fact that Queen...doesn't really know how to be a parent. Queen's a computer, while Lancer's not. They're both very different characters. It'll be interesting to see how they get along as the game progresses!

Okay, I know I already mentioned Rouxls Kaard, but I need to mention this specific relationship. Rouxls Kaard may be the king of goofing up, sure, but he does legitimately try to be a good father to Lancer. He might complain about Lancer from time to time, but he does care and wants to do his best. Part of it may be because of Spade King looming behind the scenes, but honestly, I think that's a minor reason. Rouxls Kaard seems to be a character with a lot of heart, even if he messes up a lot.

And finally, last but certainly not least, Lancer and Spade King. What can I say about this father/son relationship that I haven't said already? Spade King may be a...questionable parent, at least from what we know, but he does care about Lancer. He wants what is best for his son, even if his methods for showing it are highly controversial. And seeing Lancer care for his dad after everything he's done is so heart-warming. I really want these two to establish a proper, genuine, healthy father/son relationship by the time the game ends.

I've been thinking a lot about Noelle's magic in the dark world, especially her snowgrave spell... I've seen a lot of people say her reaction to it seems suspiciously like she maybe has heard of it in some way, and that she's really trying her hardest to convince you she can't do it.

I feel like it could be interpreted either way - she genuinely has never heard of it but can tell it can't be anything good, or she knows and really, really doesn't want us to have her unleash that kind of power.

Let's run with the second one for a sec.

I've seen people suggest maybe cast it herself in the past on Dess during the bunker incident (causing her death/disappearance) and maybe blanked it from her memory or held it as her deepest secret, but I wanna propose another idea here.

Monsters supposedly can't use magic in the light world but Noelle is a nerd, and a gamer.

She's not as loud about it as Berdly, but she's a huge fan of the Dragon Blazers series - bringing it up in chapter 1 asking to carry on playing it with Rudy, then following through with that in chapter 2. If you act against the first virovirokun with her and they and Kris explain how fights work, she says this:

Then we have her main attack: Iceshock. In the second hospital visit, Rudy suggests she uses Fireshock in the normal route (only to be dismissed by Noelle because 'the mage already left the party'), while Noelle herself suggests Iceshock in the weird route:

The 'shock' spells seem to be from Dragon Blazers specifically... Her spells are an in-game video game reference, she's just as nerdy in her dark world form as Berdly.

So... Snowgrave. With all this in mind, I don't think it's something she's ever cast, but she recognises the name. And I think it's probably from a Dragon Blazers creepypasta.

Noelle LOVES scary things, and from this we know she likes unusual and creepy things in video games, so it's not a stretch to assume she's the kinda person who likes to read creepypasta. If Iceshock is already from the series, Snowgrave being from a horror story/video based on the same series wouldn't surprise me at all.

The weird route already has big creepypasta vibes, but for Noelle, it may be a creepypasta come to life... And the reason she likes scary things is knowing she can just turn them off whenever she wants :(

I've thought about making a SnowGrave route for Susie, it's longer and has way more to do to get this route. I've written it so it can be added onto as the chapters progress! So here is the Chalk Dust AU!

Chapter 1

Everything normal happens until you are given your first real choice, which is to listen to the tale. You must refuse to listen.

You must attack Lancer during the first fight.

You must defend against the Ralsei dummy until Ralsei stops trying to teach you.

You must do a genocide route up to the point you meet up with Susie.

You continue your Genocide Route, even defeating C.Round via fighting.

When choosing a Team Name, choose Susie's paper.

Continue on from this point and fight K.Round for at least 5 turns before bowing.

Once Susie leaves your party you must continue on with Genocide.

You must be the one to deal all of the damage to Clover, have Ralsei defend.

Continue Genocide.

Once everyone in the area is defeated you must go back and explore the area where you will find 3 pieces that will "inspire" you and give you Concept Item pieces.

When you get to the Thrash Your Own Ass section, you will be able to choose your concept pieces. When you put all 4 of them a new star will appear and it will be the term "Intense".

Once chosen Susie will come out, look at it and become slightly impressed. Lancer will voice his concern but Susie will shut him down.

When you continue you should see the two Rudinns fanning Susie as Lancer lays alone in the chair beside her.

Going through the maze you must follow the correct path until you see Susie. You then must follow her through the maze several times until you reach a dead end which she will be able to speak to her and then lead her out of here, leaving Lancer behind.

You then will see her run up ahead before turning back and challenging you to a fight. You must defend/heal through the entire fight. Acting [minus checking] will ruin the run, so will Fighting.

You must wait it out and get through her fight until Lancer comes out of no where to go and attack you. You must dodge the attack and let him go attack Susie. He will apologize and right after and the fight will end.

Susie will pick him up and begin yelling at him. You are given an option to speak, you must stay silent.

Lancer will promise it was an accident and she will let him go after he pleads with her.

Susie and Lancer will join your side.

Lancer will run off where he normally runs off. Susie will chase after him asking what is he doing and calling him a coward.

After you're captured Susie will escape and go to free you and Ralsei. She then sees Lancer, going immediately to attack him for his betrayal. Lancer will use all of his turns to Defend and will beg Susie to listen and explain how he came down here to free you all. Susie will spare him.

Susie will bring Lancer over to you and make him explain. You are given the choice to kill or spare him. You must spare him.

You continue on your genocide route as Lancer ran ahead trying to stop his dad.

You come up and meet his dad and beat him down. Ralsei heals him. You are at that point where he is about to kill Kris and Susie. Lancer will kill his dad to save you all. Ralsei will try to comfort him as you and Susie leave the DarkWorld.

Chapter 2

You wake up and before you leave your room, you must go check out your drawer 3 times in a row without moving or skipping dialog. You will find the item [Chalk]

You will check out the Castel and then be told to go get the ball if stuff, but you will only have the items for Sean and Lancer. When checking the items you will be told that the others were destroyed.

Once your banished to do your project you must go find Susie's locker and shove the [Chalk] through the slots on the top.

You go though as if it were a normal genocide until you get to the Berdly fight. Susie must land the final blow to Berdly's cart.

Finally you will now have your choice to go with either Ralsei or Susie. You must choose Susie. She will celebrate similar to how she acted in the original universe with Lancer.

You are able to start killing solely with Susie at this point yet it is not recommended. So sometimes killing with only her is okay. You must not make it constant.

Once you have reached paths with Noelle she will go hide as the Queen appears and right after some dialog it will begin a fight. You must have Susie attack her as you defend. You are not supposed to kill her. You are to wait it out til Berdly comes and forces the Queen to flee.

Once Berdly is there he will try to talk with you, yet will be silenced by Susie who will threaten him til he leaves.

Noelle joins the team, unnoticeablely scared.

You now are to back track to the trash heap. As you do, use Susie to kill infront of Noelle.

Once infront of Spamton's shop, Susie will point out something that looks like the top of the machine that you found the concepts for. She will then talk about how if she could make it real, she would be able to slaughter people quickly. Noelle is clearly upset and fearful because of this.

You will go back to the area where you will normally see Ralsei and Susie eating cotton candy. Susie will shove the cone aside and will go up to Ralsei and lean against him. Calling him a nerd.

The party will split up again as Noelle has become too fearful to be around Susie or Kris. Yet she will not say this out loud.

You will proceed to go to the Pink Addison, which you will go through the dialog options. Then as you walk away they will stop you and offer you the [Dust Axe].

You do the whole money thing. You tell Susie to Get It over and over again. She doesn't understand what you mean by how to get it at first but once she understood she did it with a smile.

Susie now has learned * Banish Buster

There is a pile of dust where pink Addison stood.

You must go back and use Banish Buster on all of the enemies. Leaving piles of dust everywhere.

If you go check on Spamton, he will say he has a great deal to offer.

You must kill everyone and then go back to Spamton.

Spamton will look around for the item bit will become nervous as he tries to offer you something else.

Susie will pick him up and pin him against the wall, saying something along the lines of "Well I might as well just bite your head off for wasting our time!" Then something along the lines of, "Might as well make use put of you. Why not a snack?"

She then will open up her jaws and put her mouth around his head before throwing him back into the side of the dumpster. She will hold her [Dust Axe] to his neck. Saying how pathetic he was.

Then she proceeds to attack him. There is no remains left behind.

You continue onward with no upgrades.

You get through Mouse Puzzle 2 with ease as you tell Susie to destroy the puzzle. She listens to your command.

When you get to Mouse Puzzle 3 you will have to force Susie to do the puzzle. She will tell you that she isn't doing it but you will force her to proceed and do the puzzle.

You are forced to watch as she fails a few times. She will keep saying for you to just do it. You must refuse every single time she asks.

She will put the [Dust Axe] down at this point in time. Do not pick it up at this time.

As she works on the puzzle you must go back and go to the dumpster and investigate it. You will have the option to go inside and look through the trash. Do it.

You will find the item [Metal Fang Caps]. If you check the item you will see they are dirty. You will have the option to clean it with one of the scarf weapons. It will destroy the scarf item and cannot be fixed if you use it.

Now you must go back to Susie.

You go over to her axe and now you must take it.

Soon afterwards Susie will finish the puzzle, she will mock the game and laugh at it. Then proceed to walk over to where she left her [Dust Axe] and realize it's not there.

She will walk over to you and ask you about it. You are given the option to give her the Axe or the Metal Fang Caps. Give her the caps.

She will refuse a few times but you will force her to use them. She puts them on and the metal shards tear at her gums.

There are no enemies between Mouse Puzzle 3 and the Berdly fight.

You encounter Berdly, which he will stop you and say that he knows you were with Noelle and will ask you where she is. Susie will not speak.

Once the fight begins you must get your TP up to 100% before you can begin the dialog.

This is the point where you will force Susie to use Dust Bite. The following test will be an example of the dialog.

You demand Susie to use Dust Bite. She refuses. Saying she doesn't want to bite a nerd.

*Proceed

She will refuse again. Saying how nasty it would be.

*Proceed

She will say she would rather spill his guts than bite him.

*Proceed

She will say she doesn't need to take it and will leave.

*Proceed

...

*Proceed

...

*Proceed

...

Berdly will say something stupid here that will make her visibly angry.

. . .

*Proceed

"FINE! ILL SHOW YOU!"

She will then be shown dashing over to Berdly, opening her jaws before crushing his shoulder and neck. His body popping into dust in her mouth.

Combat ends.

She will stand where above the smaller dust pile for a moment silently.

Her text sprite will be smiling as she turns around to look at Kris.

She will go and walk behind Kris to follow again. Susie will no longer use her Axe for combat.

From this point on it will be similar to the normal route except you will continue your genocide route.

You will be captured by the queen again. Ralsei will be captured too.

You pull out Lancer who will try to genuinely help this time. He will be clearly severely anxious.

This will lead to a security issue arising. A self defense mode will activate where you must dodge lasers survive until Lancer turns it off.

Susie will come out of the room as you come out of yours. She will go over and talk about how Lancer almost killed them and made him feel guilty.

Lancer will shy away as Susie will make an attack towards Lancer but will purposely miss. Siking him out.

Lancer will turn to stone and Susie will walk off without him.

You will continue onward but will head up to the Queens place. You will fight fight robot and skip the Berdly and Queen fight.

You will win then continue onward. Everything is normal except for dialog.

When you come out of the Dark World. Noelle will think Berdly went home early.

Susie will go outside and be ready for you to start to walk you home.

When you look around the computer room. It will be dusty.

During your sleep over she will be more clearly buddy buddy with you ever so slightly. Nudging you and hitting your back.

Everything else is normal.

So I was replaying Deltarune and I was armed with the information that Lancer is in your pocket, so I wanted to see what he would say. The list is under the read more since it’s long.

This is right after we fall and I just think “dadcrobatic (lesser)” is so funny

Right after you beat Queen on the arcade machine. I like the little nod to him being a stool in chapter one, and I know 100% Lancer taught Ralsei how to do it. Also Lancer looking away is something so funny and endearing to me.

This is right after the boss fight with Sweet and the gang. Not quite sure what he means here but I wanna add osmosing to my vocabulary. (also please ignore how low Ralsei is on health I suck a dodging)

........Lancer your dad threatened to throw you off the castle in chapter one, don’t say you won’t be trounced. This is right after you fall into the trash pit.

When we split up Lancer brings up this reference and, as someone who was a big Scooby-Doo fan as a kid this makes me so happy.

NO LANCER WE WILL NOT MAKE NOELLE A BAD GUY (also is he calling Noelle ice cream?). This is right after we pick up Noelle. Side note: right before you meet up with her if you walk fast enough you can actually see her walking ahead of you. I tried to catch up but I got attacked by floor tiles.

It's a crime that no one is talking about Lancer saying "illusory nipple technique" and we need to fix it. And of course, this is after we see Berdly’s statue of him and Queen (if someone draws Lancer saying this I will love you).

So I was trying to find the tea of each character and next to the guy selling them was someone selling free samples, which was just a nail in a shoe and Lancer I am so sorry I didn't think you were going to eat it Lancer PLEASE I’M SORRY

I think this is right after the Berdly fight and for Lancer to call Berdly the "bluebird of crappiness" and then telling him to fly away evokes many emotions and I know what exactly none of them are. Also haha Lancer smoosh.

Lancer ate the Destiel mixtape. The mixtape was not rock as we thought it's just a cute jingle. This is right after the car ride with Queen.

Lancer please don’t leave just stay in my pocket. I don’t need to escape my room just stay please. This is the last dialogue before he jumps out and helps you escape your room in Queen’s castle.

Bonus:

If you push Lancer all the way to the left, he gets the good life. My first play through I pushed him to the right because I wanted to take him with me and he wouldn’t go up the stairs. I was really sad after that. Then I found out about this and everything was good.

I haven’t been super active on this blog because frankly I have like, three? looong analysis/theorycrafting posts I’ve been putting off working on and it fills me with shame to log in and see them waiting in my drafts.

But.

With the release of Deltarune Chapter 2, I wanted to talk kinda in general about how I thought it could impact the fandom’s perception of Everybody’s Favorite Demon Baby, and also point out something in specific about the Weird Route that might connect back to Undertale.

Putting it under the cut to avoid spoilers and long-winded ramblings for the unwilling. Includes spoilers for the Weird Route.

(NOTE: may update later if I notice more things for to put in section II. I’d like to make a full list of parallels if I can tidy them up.)

I. Pre- vs Post-Release Thoughts (you can skip down to II if you don’t care, it is genuinely Long and Pointless)

Okay, so first off. I got SO worried like, the day before the new chapter dropped? It hit me that whatever new stuff we got out of this, people would connect back to Undertale, and. Honestly, I really do hate connecting everything back to Chara, because I do think of Kris as their own character and I really like them and don’t want to ignore everything they got going on. But, I am first and foremost a shameless Chara stan and they’re very important to me, so I kinda... did spend a few minutes reeling from all the new DR stuff as its own stuff, and then immediately started thinking about how this would reflect back on Chara in Undertale lol.

But that’s ok for me to do here because this is my All Chara, Only Chara, All The Time blog, so I am gonna only really talk about Deltarune here to talk about them lol.

So yeah, I started getting anxious beforehand worrying about how everyone would take any and all implications and apply it to mean “aha, Chara IS evil!” The fakeout with the pie reveal in the anniversary stream was a big relief, but I still got worried leading up to the release about what could be in it.

Because part of why I’ve always thought that “Chara was genuinely evil from the start” and even “ok maybe not TOTALLY evil, but Chara was still a kinda bad person” were unlikely was, even if you throw out all the other popular Chara-sympathetic theories. To me, both these takes just seemed too below TF’s talent and the way he wrote all his other characters with depth and love; a Chara like the one these theories propose just doesn’t belong in a world created by TF, and the way the Dreemurrs talk about them overall, the way TF made a point of having Chara say they were guided and repeatedly, correctly blame you the player for the destruction in Kill-All, I was sure that he never intended them to ever be as bad as the fandom sometimes tried to make them out to be.

... Like, mostly sure. Like, 80% sure? Because he never ever talks about them, so it’s impossible say for sure, and it is still theoretically possible that “Chara was and is bad” was the cold-ass take he’d intended all along. So yeah, leading up to the release, I started getting antsy that whatever new lore came out of it, either he’d directly confirm “Chara was a villain?” “*cocks gun* Always has been” or there’d be something that’d at least heavily implicate them, or could be twisted to implicate them, as a negative force. More ammo to be used against them in the Chara Debate Circles would be a drag, and outright confirmation of them as a villain would honestly break my heart and I’d be forced to disown Toby Fox, My Beloved Cool Dad.

And, right now? Tell the truth, I’m SO relieved and I am SO happy. And not just because of how much depth and characterization it seems Kris is getting! (imo, because rn I just headcanon them as an unhappy teen desperately trying to keep their new friends going on adventures with them and trying to fight back against the player’s control)

I love how this chapter seems to be TF doing course-correcting based on fandom interpretations. Because Kris just isn’t evil, even if they are a knife teen, even if they are the Knight, they’re just NOT evil and that’s canon, baybeeee; it’s made clear in this chapter and the previous one that they love their family even outside of the player’s control, they care about their new friends even outside of the player’s control, they’re established as a weird creepy kid but no one sees them as scary or evil, they’re just Kris, and even in the Weird Route, TF made a point of hammering in the differences between Kris and the player in the Weird Route: Susie and Ralsei notice how distressed Kris seemed after you have Noelle ice Berdly, Noelle heard a voice that she said wasn’t Kris telling her to kill, and the FUCKING Spamton fight: “Kris called for help... but nobody came” again and again, and then “You whispered Noelle’s name”... you, not Kris.

I know TF has never commented much on fans’ perceptions of Frisk and Chara, or who exactly is pulling strings in different routes. But after all this, and especially after seeing all the little winks and nods to fandom jokes in this chapter (what comes to mind: pulling everyone’s leg by seeming to have Kris attack Toriel with a knife only to reveal that pie theory was right, Susie not liking Ralsei’s real face as much as his shadowed one, Ralsei with a gun getting referenced with the ad, Kris getting a joke fixation with knives after the fans made Chara and Kris have knife obsessions as a joke), and seeing what looks like him try to correct some things (what stuck out to me was doubling down on showing that Kris is loved and valued in their family: lots of fans came away from Chapter 1 thinking that Kris was not valued as much as Asriel, but here we see that Toriel is supportive of Kris’ friendship with Susie, and it’s stated that Asriel is the one who used the crappy controller, not Kris) -

I think while he hasn’t commented directly, while he admitted to being overwhelmed by Undertale’s success, while he tends to be pretty tight-lipped about the lore (whether that’s because it’ll be addressed by future chapters or because he prefers to let fans sleuth it out), this chapter convinced me that Toby does keep tabs on fan reactions in Deltarune, so he probably does with Undertale too and would know about all The Discourse surrounding Little Mx Pink Cheeks (and in turn, popular theories like Narrator Chara... Toby if you integrate Narrator Chara into Deltarune being a borderline creepypasta and have the narrator start talking directly to the characters or to the player or the characters start talking to the narrator I will lose my damn B E A N S).

(Kris and Chara not being demonized and the narrator interacting directly with the characters were the only two things on my wishlist going in, I was fine with literally anything else happening lmao)

I even kinda think he’s going out of his way to separate Kris and the player because we didn’t get it before with Undertale, we still insisted that Frisk or Chara was the one doing it, and he’s even using Kris to show that even if this kid can be scary, maybe even mean, and maybe they’re even the Knight (with their reasons unknown), they’re still not a bad kid, they’re still funny and likable, and they still genuinely love their family and friends - which falls in line with Undertale’s cast of complex but likable people who can be antagonists and make mistakes but still aren’t truly bad people, and imo is a direct response to some people fixating on the idea that Chara was always evil because they seem scary/complicated.

... Which is a long way to say that I came out of Deltarune with my confidence fully restored about TF’s intentions with Chara and Kris. Even if he never comments on Chara directly, now I really don’t think TF thinks they’re evil or ever intended for them to be. Deltarune convinced me more than ever that Chara is meant to be complex, yes, and able to be influenced to do horrible things, but they were never intended to be as malicious or shallow as some fans insist.

TLDR:

Toby Fox read your mean fanfiction where Chara is a bad abusive serial killer no one likes, and he made Deltarune in revenge.

... Hm? Ah, you’d like me to get to the point! Right this way!

II. Undertale, Deltarune, and The Point

While no doubt some will still take the voice Noelle hears to be Chara influencing her to turn her into a murderer (I haven’t gone looking for it yet, but I’m sure it’s already a thing because I know this fandom), since it’s made too clear by the game that they can’t blame Kris for this one, I think at this point that’s just being too stubborn to consider other ideas.

If you believe in the totally made up idea used in so many fanfics that Chara is an evil spirit trying to whisper in Frisk’s ear to kill everyone, literally (for some reason) the embodiment of raising stats, and gets more control over people who have increased LV to take over their body... sure. Could be them, they did talk about moving on to the next world and all. I mean, that wouldn’t really make sense because it’s literally never implied in the actual game that Chara encourages you to kill outside of the Kill-All Run or even wants you to, certainly not as the narrator and we get no hint of them doing this as an unseen, unheard third-party either.

Not to mention they’re NOT literally possessing you because of increased LV; they don’t control you even with high LV in any Undertale route other than arguably the Kill-All, and if you fail the Kill-All and it turns into a high-body count Neutral, Chara suddenly stops using first-person narration and showing up in mirrors entirely even though they were showing themself before, the LV remains the same or even can get raised as high as LV 19, nor do they suddenly take over in any other Neutral runs. We can speculate on why (personally, I’d place this either on Chara’s mindset, such as them sinking into shock from the trauma or becoming more assertive as the player feeds their megalomania, or as a sign of Frisk’s withdrawal, leaving Chara alone in the body to take the reins and act out the player’s orders), but canonically, no, Chara does not take over due to high stats.

In fact, there’s even more evidence against this. First-person narration also exists for fleeing your battles in Undertale, even on Pacifist runs with base stats, 0 EXP, and an LV of 1. Since Chara is established to use first-person narration to refer to themself, is the only one who canonically does so, and is confirmed to be present even in all runs through their name and memories always showing up, it seems pretty likely that Chara can take control to flee battle. That means an increase in stats is not a sign of their presence or control, in Undertale or Deltarune.

The most damning blow to the idea that Chara is the voice corrupting Noelle are the lines in the fight with Spamton I mentioned. Kris called for help, but nobody came. You whispered Noelle’s name. Well hold on. If that’s Chara, shouldn’t it be “I whispered Noelle’s name”? As soon as you’ve officially started the Kill-All in Undertale, Chara starts up their “It’s me, Chara” schtick right away, right there in Toriel’s home in the first area, and if they weren’t the narrator before, they’re beginning to speak through the narration now. If the voice was Chara, surely Toby Fox knows it’d be a way bigger “oh shit” moment if the creepy scary hidden route once again switched into first-person, scaring us the same way he did before when we first saw “It’s me, Chara” and knew something was wrong; unfairly or not, their reputation as a villain is still well established and hinting to Chara’s presence with a simple “I” would drive the menace even further, if he intended for them to simply be a demon that possesses player characters when you grind enough. But it’s still just you. The player.

The Weird Route does even more to help Chara’s case than that. Not only is it made pretty clear that Kris and the player are separate, and the player is the one responsible for corrupting Noelle and making her kill... consider how similar Noelle and Chara are, in the Weird Route and the Kill-All Route.

This “voice” that “guides” them in growing strong, compelling them to kill everyone in order to fight for them, eventually driving them to murder people they know. Chara calls themself “the demon that comes when people call its name”, and you whisper Noelle’s name to have her appear to kill Spamton. Noelle’s conflicting emotions towards Kris and the voice as she is manipulated, as she becomes more violent and sadistic, as she goes into shock; does that not sound like Chara, who flipflops between holding you dear as their partner and wanting to move on to the next world together, to be together forever, and them being disgusted by your refusal to accept consequences and the perverse enjoyment you get in killing everyone again and again? Chara, who clings to their quirky narration for much of the Kill-All, but keeps slipping up, who becomes terrifyingly cold, aggressive, power-hungry, and even sadistic, yet still calls Undyne “the heroine”, still seems to still care about their locket, still has moments where they seem to falter?

Noelle does put up significantly more resistance to the voice’s commands than Chara does, and at least much more visibly shows distress and trauma. I don’t think this is a black mark on Chara’s chara-cter either, or an indication of them being more violent or cruel.

For one, while Noelle is still herself with her own soul, it is heavily implied by Chara, Flowey, and Undertale’s lore that Chara was reincarnated without their own soul, at best perhaps attached to Frisk’s (or yours): as I speculate in one of my currently unfinished theories, while monster souls are made up of love, compassion, and hope and thus Asriel was reincarnated without these qualities, it could well be that human souls are correspondingly made up of their own multiple traits, namely determination, patience, bravery, integrity, perseverance, kindness, and justice; if true, a soulless Chara would be lacking these qualities, which would make them less equipped to resist the player’s commands or to feel as torn up about it.

Also, the player has a hold on them both as “party members” to the player’s vessels, but it is also possible that the player naming Chara and having them directly attached to Frisk also gives them a stronger connection to Chara they can abuse, similar to how Kris and Frisk (as the player’s direct vessels) have much less autonomy than Kris’ party members.

(Fun observation: We know that when the thing controlling Kris forced Noelle into becoming a killer and using her to kill Berdly, Kris was horrified and shaken-up according to Susie and Ralsei. How do you think Frisk felt watching Chara be used to slaughter the Underground and then erasing the world when they’re totally corrupted?)

And lastly... look, Noelle and Chara are both minors, but Chara is significantly younger - a small child compared to Noelle’s teen. I know it’s fiction and strong wills and determination and anime is real and all, but a traumatized young child who died two violent and awful deaths back-to-back, may have literally experienced being a corpse in their own coffin/grave for who knows how long, and then came back ”confused” only to immediately start hearing a voice relentlessly commanding them to kill everyone?? I can absolutely see a traumatized kid shutting down and just going with it out of fear at first, before the LV sets in.

TLDR:

What you do to Noelle in the Weird Route is the same fucking thing you do to Chara in the Kill-All Route.

i really, really wanna love berdly. i'm a socially oblivious burnout gifted kid, so i can sympathize with him hardcore, and i can definitely see him being one of if not my favourite character in the future. but i just cannot like him as he is right now.

i wanna clarify, it's not because he's annoying. if he was just annoying, i would love him to bits, and he'd probably even end up one of my favourites.

my initial problem with him was how he puts down others to make him feel better out himself. but that was resolved in chapter 2, and was even something i could sympathize with. however, immediately after that was handled, he got an entirely new character breaking flaw.

namely, he's a total incel. he thought noelle had a crush on him because she was friendly with him and helped him study. it's hard to tell if noelle even considered him a friend or just a study buddy, if i'm honest. and then, despite susie hating his guts moments before, he assumed she was into him because she wasn't actively mean to him.

this is really the only thing stopping me from liking him. he's a funny character who's even kind of relatable for me as a neurodivergent fan. i can definitely see how people love him, please don't take this personally if you're a berdly fan!

but until this is cleared up and he's just an 'annoying' chicken nugget man with no social awareness but a good heart and nothing but the best intentions, i can't like him. there's character flaws, and then there's 'wow what a dick i kinda don't like him', and berdly unfortunately crosses that line with me.

tl;dr: berdly has a lot of potential but until he learns that not every woman that can tolerate his presence wants to fuck him i just cannot like him

(by the way, i wanted to add that i actually do love him in the snowgrave route. the fact that he drops his boy genius persona the moment he notices something is wrong with noelle and his attacks are stronger than before is just... really cool of him, and it really shows how much he cares about noelle. while it's not enough for me to overlook my biggest issue with him, but i do think it's enough for me to say i really don't hate him. he just has more development to go through before i can really start to love him.)

Wrathtale: Since literally nobody likes Jerry, would witnesses pretend that they didn’t see anything if/when Chara attacks him?

They’d act the same way they do when Chara finally gets fed up with Berdly and beats him up: they turn a blind eye and pretend they don’t see anything.

Although inwardly, they’re cheering like a bunch of crazed fans at a football game - screaming with delight and frothing at the mouth.

and even if this is suppose to be a Fem-Kris, I think I want to have this version of Kris be like how I feel…being half non-binary & half binary who so happens to still go by she/her pronouns….like being Female/Agender, maybe I could call myself Fem-Agender for short??

and well the name Kris is technically a unisex name, the name Chara isn’t though and it is 100% a female name but if any Chara from any AU were born male but was named Chara, I like to think of headcanon one of reasons why a Male Chara (even if in my headcanon I believe they are biologically female but could see themselves as Fem-Agender) hates humanity…

I mean I can understand if that version of Chara was mad at humans,  that is my headcanon for the Chara’s that were born biologically male and could either still see themselves as such or see themselves as Agender or maybe like Male-Agender?  

and the reason why I chose Patience Soul to be placed in my Kris Avatar for tumblr is because it is my headcanon and theory about Deltarune….I believe that Kris’s true soul is patience and the reason why they appear blue in dark world is because their soul is reflecting out and the same can be said for Susie, I believe Susie’s Soul Trait is Perseverance and I guess if any purple fur or skin or scale or ghost monster were a different shade of purple they would become either a dark or light purple if they entered the dark world but still have to do with their perseverance shining through much like Kris, it doesn’t matter if your monster or human, I believe when either of those two races enters the dark world the trait they have will shine through with the new clothes change…

and even if some might not agree with this next headcanon theory

I believe that Ralsei is a liar, and I know that I’m not the only one who notice it and after watching Deltarune Doki Doki Forever on youtube, (it is really good) I can see that I really am not the only one who might see that Ralsei is hiding something and is a liar I mean why would he have the Delta-Rune at their place? even on the big door! suspicious….but thanks to that cute crossover, I now want to ship Kris x Berdly……….a part of me hopes that Ralsei is just being used and was tricked by the Knight but another part of me thinks that Ralsei knows very well what they are doing and is deliberately tricking Kris and Susie, and in a way Lancer later on….so I have two headcanon theories about Ralsei, that one they know what they are doing and they ain’t as sweet as they appear to be and the other is that they are sweet but just naive and they are being tricked by the knight…..I still don’t see the “Monster Kid” in Deltarune being like a counterpart of the one from Undertale, I can’t help but see the one in Kris’s class as being Monster Kid’s (well the one from Deltarune) Older sibling named Monster Teen, well I think Monster Kid & Monster Teen would be their nicknames…

I think the real Monster Kid is in Toriel’s class, since she teaches the much younger and smaller kids that I guess might be of both monster and human, even if we haven’t seen other humans in that Deltaville Town but it doesn’t mean they aren’t there maybe….

by the way I really want to change the light blue color of my background but I kind of forgot how to do it, I mean I tried searching in the Edit Appearance but so far No Go….I really want to change the color of the background on my side…if anyone can help with that by telling me what the name of it is and where it is that would be great……I would really appreciate it.

another headcanon I have that I think it is everyone else’s too that came to the same conclusion….I think Asgore is a Double Trait, and now that I think about it I think Sans (when fighting him in Geno-Run) he might be a double trait too because of how his eyes go from yellow and cyan/light blue.

plus after figuring it out I don’t think it is fair to place full blame on Asgore (or even Underswap-Toriel or any swap version) for what happen to the human children….after all it is partly Toriel (and any swap version from any AU) fault, I mean she just let’s Frisk walk out and not even trying to keep them after the fight or did the same with the other human children, and if any of  the past human children sneaked out then when she notices she should of I don’t know ran out of the dang Ruins to get them…..it doesn’t matter if your human or monster, you do NOT let a monster/human child out to dangers like what Frisk and the other human children had to go through….but even if Toriel has yet to admit it in the game that she is fully partly at fault, at least she does do something in the end (well the true ending anyway) and well I think if her children like either Frisk or Chara or Asriel, she would notice right away if any of them were going through a type of depression well I guess in most versions of Toriel in Fanon she would of notice too late…..but anyway I can’t help but think Kris is going through a type of depression even if they are being controlled by the Red Soul that no one they are taking the adventure with doesn’t put two and two together and see that it ain’t theirs and only Fans seem to pick this up….

have notice how Kris’s side of the room is and how their big bro’s side of the room is…..and I think….well I believe Kris has been hurting themselves,

and it might be possible that they got blamed by Asriel

(which I want to call them Doug and I believe their middle name is Douglas) 

but it might be possible over time he felt guilty and tried to form a bond with Kris but the damage had already been done, you can’t just make a damage like that go away so easy, I might have theories about why Kris seems so depressed (and I believe they are) but we wont fully know what is the cause until we see it in a future chapter of Deltarune, but I think it could be because of how they are bullied, how Asriel (Doug) use to bully them, and how their parents split up and how Toriel can’t see that Kris is in pain.

I can’t help but see Kris as a kindred spirit, well them and Chara 

 I mean Chara gets misunderstood and I feel sorry for them being made the scapegoat, plus truth be told….if there weren’t good people in this world and I didn’t have friends that I speak with online….I might of ended up hating humanity too, I do have a love for chocolate too but maybe Chara loves it more than me lol….

I still think Sans might be a twin, and his twin might be a girl who dresses like him I even did drawings of Sans and his twin wearing the same clothes but his twin is wearing black tights which could help to tell them apart….and FYI, Chara in the game (even if I had only seen it on video and never got that far) NEVER said to kill anyone and they even pointed out that we shouldn’t, but that misunderstanding of that wouldn’t of gave birth to the evil versions of Chara and the ones who are a tragic villain or anti-villain.

  and I really hope some fans agree with my theory about Kris’s true soul trait being patience.

anyway I didn’t mean for this to be so long and well I will post this drawing up either in a few days or next month over at Deviantart, plus I still want to see this drawing I did of Kris as Fem-Agender…

the term Fem-Agender would be the same for someone who was biologically born male

but feel they are and aren’t at the same time, which is someone who sees themselves as both half binary & half non-binary

I mean Gems from Steven Universe (but not Steven) are genderless but they all go by she/her (well for swap versions of them that look male go by he/him) 

plus now that I think about it I think Steven would fit as someone who could see himself as Male-Agender, some of his fusions either with Connie or Amethyst go by them/they pronouns, but I think his canon fusion with Pearl could maybe go by both them/they & him/he because of reasons…..who knew they would make such a fusion of Steven/Pearl so Awesome and Flamboyant

okay now I’m talking too much and making this even longer….anyway I’m reading fan fics right now, and again I would really appreciate the help with changing my background on here from a blue color to a different color…I think before I go back reading I think I will go play some Mass Effect, I think at the rate I’m going I think I’m becoming a Paragade, for some odd reason it makes me think of Tsundere….I really want to keep replying Mass Effect 1 enough so I wont have to choose between Jack and Miranda, I don’t want to do that if the options to keep both are closed…it is seriously the worse for me, it be like if there was a AU of Undertale/Mass Effect and I had to choose between Nice-Cream Guy & Muffet and if I choose to side over one over there other when the options to tell them both off or try to nicely reason to both of them is closed, ya know one of them will die just like Jack and Miranda, I want to try to build up both my renegade and paragon and now I know after watching a walkthrough on how to save both the geth and quarian and not pick one over the other, I can be more prepared so long as I save a certain character who will side with me in stopping the quarian attack on the geth, and make sure to turn Legion down first before deciding to help stop the quarian attack and do it in a neutral way, I do not want to mess things up again…I don’t like both outcomes for when I choose one over the other cause well it ain’t good, I still see the geth as victims of what the quarians did, but at least some quarians can see that they were wrong and were being dirty shisnos….

anyway I think after I beat Mass Effect 1 again with the same avatar, I might try to play through it again with the same avatar before I head to play Mass Effect 2 and 3, still have not beat Mass Effect 3 sadly….and besides playing Mass Effect, I want to play a few other of my video games too and then go back to reading.
