Tiktok doesn't properly embed here, but if y'all haven't seen the Curt Mega scene study tiktok for Spy Again... you need to. Just. It kills me how much respect he has for this character.
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLmasdPQ/
Also part two when?? The video ends before it gets to the big Owen lines that are most interesting to me, because other than A1P1 they're the only real indication in the show of what their relationship was like. That there was care and concern and genuine affection there.
And the way those lines are sung in the show is just heartbreaking, which makes you invest in this relationship before you even know the full extent of it. The staircase scene hits as hard as it does because the show gets you to buy into Curt's grief during Spy Again. Its an absolutely pivotal moment for understanding this character
I think the especially interesting bit is this:
"Owen, please if you could see what's become of me what would you think?
If a spy is a spy and I once was a spy, I think you'd want me to spy, again.
You'd put this drink down, turn my life around"
And of course:
"Owen would want me to do this, so I know that I'll get through it"
Spy Again is so interesting to me because for the rest of the show, Curt barely says Owen's name. I think he says it once when he's telling Tatiana, then the two flashbacks. He doesn't say it at all after the DMA reveal. He has so much grief around Owen's death, but (at least until Tatiana) can only really feel that grief privately
This is, I think, also the only moment in the show where Curt acknowledges the active role he played in Owen's death with "Doesn't even matter if I killed my best friend," because every other instance (except obviously his harmony in Torture Tango) he uses passive language, like I think what he says to Tatiana is "watched as my... partner was killed right in front of me."
And that's the conflict of the song. He wants to be the person he was before, but he's carrying around so much grief and guilt that he has to rationalize his desire to move on as something Owen would want for him. And in any other circumstance that would probably be true. That's what makes it so tragic.
I dunno, I'm probably just a little weirdo. I grew up in community theatre so scene studies and character studies are like catnip to me. I mean 90% of what I do on this website is just rant endlessly about plot and character minutiae, but I find that shit fascinating. I really enjoy getting to see the choices actors make, and especially finding out why.
Anyways its good, you should watch it

Propaganda below the cut!
Sergio Santos
Sergio Santos is a bomb seller who only appears in one scene, and features in the song ‘Somebody’s Gotta Do It’, alongside the Deadliest Man Alive. He’s shown to be a family man, which he says about himself, and has a box of pastries for his anniversary. Sergio asks for the autographs of both Curt Mega and the DMA, for his nephew Marco. He is played by Joey Richter. We adore him. Everybody wants a Sergio. He’s the true main character of SAF. He's brazilian.
Nozue
He's 39 and the office heartthrob. He's got this hot 29 year old guy absolutely horny on main over him and like all the ladies in the office are in his "harem" (he takes them to lunch to get ideas for cafes to go to with the horny guy). Wears his suits and eats cute desserts at cafes. Oozing bisexual swag.

if anyone wants to recommend musicals to me I would fucking adore that. Until then, here are some suggestions:
Love in Hate Nation-- LET’S GO LESBIANS! 1960s sapphic love story taking place in a girls’ reformatory. Also, trans girl played by trans actress!!! Some of the amazing songs are “I Hope” and “Oh Well”. Susannah Son wants to be a singer, her performative activist boyfriend is gross and also wants her to marry him so he’ll have better options politically. Sheila Nail is so fucking cool and I love everyone in this. My brain cuts out about this I’m so sorry babes. There is not a cast recording but there IS an original cast bootleg on youtube.
Holy Musical B@man!-- If you liked the goofiness of 1960s Batman and Robin, but think “man, these guys should’ve been able to swear! And also should have had a candy themed villain!” this is the musical for you. Also if you’ve heard of the very queer Harry Potter musical that JK herself tried to sue over, it’s made by the same group <3. As usual with Team Starkid, whole thing is up for free on youtube by the creators.
Firebringer-- Speaking of the same group... Cave people sapphics who I think are bi or pan. I love them and they’re all so dumb. Also, if you’ve seen the “I don’t really wanna do the work today” vine, that comes from this. I do not remember any of the second half other than one of them taking the ring the other is proposing with... to propose. And the “*blows kiss*” “fuck no, Zazz” “duly noted”. Kind of like a shitpost musical. Once again, free by creators. Actually, check out any of their musicals.
The Prom-- In Indiana, Emma just wants to take her girlfriend to the prom, and in response, the PTA cancels it. With some help from some broadway actors looking for good publicity, they manage to pull it off. So, to summarize, teen lesbian gets gay uncle who knows what she’s going through!! This musical makes me cry every goddamn time. There is a movie now, and I’m very happy about that because *high profile gay rep on netflix*, but I personally did not like the direction they took with it. They put a weird amount of emphasis on biological rather than found family in the movie, and were a little too forgiving when it came to trauma from family for being gay. Also, they took away Emma being butch. This was sadly (loosely) based on a recent true story from I think 2012. Also, was the first gay kiss in the Macy’s parade. You know those movie musicals the straight girls in theater like? The music is similar, but gayer, and for some reason that makes me so fuckng happy. I think it’s because non-queer people have had musicals for so long, and those normally have a 60s vibe, and the music in this does too and it feels more classic?? Sapphic promposal song (het at the beginning). “Unruly Heart” and the end of Act 1 will break you. Please ignore the bad wigs.
Spies Are Forever-- GAY SPIES GAY SPIES GAY SPIES!! Curt Mega (played by... Curt Mega) lost his partner Owen during a mission. Now, he’s just trying to get back into spying like Owen would want. I fucking weep every time. Also, a song about comphet (at 6:36)!! And here is a video essay on how it relates to the Lavender Scare. I want you all to know that everyone also headcanons the femme fatale spy in it as either a lesbian or aroace, which uh, makes sense. Also high quality videos put up by creators. They had Jewish people making fun of Nazis while writing this, but “Not so Bad” is... kinda bad. “Torture Tango” has so much goddamn sexual tension and becomes devastating.
Hadestown--  If you know the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, it’s like that, except capitalism part 1. Orpheus is a poor musician, Eurydice dies, just like the myth. Except, the Great Depression post-apocalyptic setting that works better than it probably should. There are actually 3 soundtracks: the concept album, off-Broadway, and Broadway. I personally don’t like the concept album purely based on vibe. Off-Broadway has an absolutely gorgeous sounding Orpheus, and if you’ve heard of the disaster that was Spiderman: Turn Out the Dark, then you’ve heard of surprisingly amazing Broadway Orpheus Reeve Carney. The Fates are gorgeous and I’ve decided they’re queer. Tony’s performance link here. Explores relationships, with Hades and Persephone’s aging relationship mirrored by Orpheus and Eurydice’s relatively new one. Anyway, unionize.
Jasper in Deadland-- If you know the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, it’s like that, except capitalism part 2. Jasper is a teen who’s best friend Agnes is pretty much the one good thing left in his life. His mom left, he got kicked off the swim team (he’s manic pixie dream boy in this, especially for swimming), and Agnes dies at the beginning trying to show Jasper that she’s brave and he should be too. So, he bravely ventures into Deadland to find her, meeting Gretchen the tour guide along the way. He also finds out that since he’s still living, he can bring memories back to the dead. Songs like “Stroke by Stroke” (he’s uh, definitely a teen, guys) and “Living Dead” (I shared a prinxiety animatic of that on here a while ago). They blend Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Christian, and whatever Dante’s Inferno counts as together to create Deadland. Story’s kinda hard to follow from the soundtrack, so if u wanna learn how it all ties together message me.
Death Note Musical-- Okay babes, here’s where it gets tough. It was written originally in English, and there is a spectacular English concept album, but the only productions have been in South Korea, Japan, and I think Taiwan. Listen to it anyways, find a bootleg of it with english subtitles. It has so much gay tension and also a truly ethereal character who seems to be a lesbian who is also either demisexual or demiromantic. If any of y’all saw the anime like me, it kind of cuts out the arc after episode 26. I personally thought it was actually a better story for it.
Alice by Heart-- Okay, this one makes me fucking cry every goddamn time. In WW2, these poor goddamn kids are all alone in the Tube System (is that what y’all call it? genuinely asking here) with none of their parents but still some grownups. Alice’s best friend Alfred is dying of tuberculosis, and to try to have one last thing together they start reading Alice in Wonderland, only for Nurse Hart to rip it apart to try to separate healthy Alice from dying-from-TB Alfred. It doesn’t work, and Alice proclaims she “knows it all by heart”, She tries to linger in the story with Alfred to have more time with him, he keeps trying to move it along because he’s dying and wants to finish it one last time. Themes are growing up and grief I guess.
Last I checked, there is a bootleg for all of these on youtube. Have fun!

dream smp but as a starkid muscial cast
 Going off my last post, I decided to put together a dream Starkid cast for a DreamSMP musical if there ever were to be one. Let's say the musical is based on Arc 1, since back then the characters were a lot more one-dimensional and it's a lot easier to match into a standard length Starkid musical. Without any wafflin, here's the best cast and no you can't disagree with me /j;
Dream – Curt Mega – I have no explanation for this, I just think he could pull him off pretty well? Curt is really good if you give him a lead, I mean look at SAF. Let my boy have a lead, Starkid. I'm gonna riot if you don't.
Tommy – Kendall Nicole Yakshe – Kendall is the only actor around Tommy's age in Starkid, so she could probably pull off the “childish but mature at the same time” look the best? Her acting for Hannah was brilliant during all the emotional scenes, so I'm sure she could handle it.
Tubbo – Lauren Lopez – I know someone replied to my Joey Richter post with this as a joke but like.... IT WORKS. Craphole and Tubbo have parallel energies. Let Lauren play a little boy again. That's where her true potential comes out. /j
Fundy – Angela Giarratana – Angela already has the experience of playing teenagers with issues with their parents by playing Lex, so she is perfect for Fundy. That is all. My entire logic. Don't @me, some of these were harder to pick out than others-
Wilbur Soot – Robert Manion – Robert + Insane characters brings out the best in him, let him go bat shit insane as the British JD kinnie.
Jschlatt – Joey Richter – Parallel vibes. That's it. Joey plays the best villains and we need a good actor for the best villain of the server (don't even @me about this I'm a schlannie)
Nihachu – Mariah Rose Faith – If Niki were in a musical she would 100% get a cool, low-key sad girl-power type solo. Mariah is your girl for that. My references? 1. mean girls and 2. “not your seed”. No further comments necessary.
Quackity – Denise Donovan – Need a dumb love interest that slowly develops as a character? Denise is your girl for that. I'm thinking a sort of character like Febuary from Starship, but a bit more serious as the plot progresses.
Technoblade – Joe Walker – It was either this of Jeff Blim. Just let me have this one-
Philza – Dylan Saunders – DAD VIBES DAD VIBES DAD VIBES. Dylan is like... The perfect Phil. Literally ideal. Give him a sad solo about having to kill his son because of the government and my man will SLAY that shit.
GeorgeNotFound – Jon Matteson - “ best at playing local confused man” award went to Jon after Paul in TGWDLM, now he's coming back as Gogy. He would be perfect for this role.
Sapnap – Corey Dorris – Y'all remember Me and My Dick? Yes, it wasn't a serious musical, but if you tell me Corey can't pull off a menacing low-key insane villain based on that and his thing in the very potter musicals, you are wrong. Corey needs to play villains more, that is that.
BadBoyHalo – Jaime Lyn Beatty – Just... Wholesome. Jaime can get across the “he a little confused but he got the spirit” energy of Bad perfectly.
Punz – Brian Holden – If there's one man who's a professional at playing side-kicks/secondary villains, Brian is your man. Think Junior from Starship but with a lot more obedience and a whole lot less daddy issues.
Skeppy – Meredith Stepien – If there's anyone who can match Jaime's energy as an equally chaotic, a bit more crazy and wholesome friend, that's Meredith. I'm not super sure why, I just get the feeling these two would pull of Skeppy's and Bad's friendship perfectly.
Eret – Brian Rosenthal – I'm not really sure about this one either, but if there was one person I'd have to nominate who could pull of the energy of the bicon that is Eret, it's this guy. Like... have you seen A Very Potter Musical.... Just... Quirrell. But a bit less timid and more low-key intimidating.
Everyone else not mentioned would be ensemble/back-up dancers played by anyone who isn't on stage, since we all know how much Starkids love having 10 roles at once for every musical they put on.
And trust me, I REALLY wanted to give Jeff Blim a role but even with how bat shit crazy this minecraft roleplay gets sometimes NO ONE can match that man's energy. He's just gonna have to stick to back up vocals I guess-

Starkid Fancast: Fiddler on the Roof
This is a partial fancast of mostly just the main characters because there's only so many Jewish Starkids but I did my best!
Tevye: Dylan Saunders
Tumblr media
look at this point in time playing an anguished father is like, what Dylan is all about and does insanely well. Also playing protagonists and holding a show on his shoulders.
Golde: Rachael Soglin
Tumblr media
feisty badass mom with zero emotional capacity, here comes Rachael lmao (+ her & dyl sound so well together I'd pay real money to hear them sing the shabbat prayer or Do You Love Me together pls and thank you)
Tzeitel: Ali Gordon
Tumblr media
idk at this point there's nothing I don't trust Ali with, she'd be really cute and touching I think
Motel Camzoil: Brian Rosenthal
Tumblr media
there's something about Brian that like really nails that awkward, clumsy and endearing vibe needed for Motel
Hodel: Arielle Goldman
Tumblr media
idk those dance scenes with Perchik are really fucking cute and Hodel is such a good character it'd be nice with that whole heartbreaking arc
Perchik: Joe Walker
Tumblr media
I def would trust him with him, there's so much about Perchik that's so raw and true to himself and brave despite everything and idk Joe is a great actor he'd probably nail the comedy AND tragedy aspects of his story
Yente (and also she'd nail Grandmother Tzeitel don't deny it): Lauren Lopez
Tumblr media
look there's nothing Lauren can't do and pushy old lady certainly ain't out of her range
Lazar Wolf: Nick Strauss
Tumblr media
joyful exuberant lonely man idk Nick can do everything he could nail it so well
Fyedka: Curt Mega
Tumblr media
feels weird casting him when I haven't found a Chava but he'd be great, he can DEF nail cocky dude and also soft so perfect match
that Russian officer with the sick af note and the dope dance moves in L'chaim: Joey Richter
Tumblr media
this is the reason I made this post don't hate me he'd just be perfect, sorta threatening but like the most incredible dancer in the world wow

LGBT+ Fiction Rec
Carol // movie, book, nsfw, wlw
Therese Beliveit sees Carol at a department store and is instantly drawn to her. The two women become close but are faced with the challenges of Carol’s rocky divorce and the struggles of being gay in the 1950s.
Tumblr media
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue // book, mlm, ace
Follows the story of Henry Montague, the son of a lord in eighteenth-century England, his sister, and his childhood best friend as their trip to Europe turns into a manhunt when he accidentally steals something more valuable than he could have imagined. Lots of great representation including a main interracial couple. There’s also a sequel called The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy, which focuses on his aro/ace sister.
Tumblr media
Maurice // book, movie, nsfw, mlm
It’s the early twentieth century England, there are some rumors about a war that may be coming up, and Maurice Hall has realized that how he feels about his very attractive male friend is not just friendship. I’m talking vintage gays, repression, commentary on class struggles, and more vintage gays. When I say that this book/movie was ahead of its time, I mean it.
Tumblr media
Spies Are Forever // musical, mlm
After Agent Curt Mega’s partner Owen dies while trying to escape a Russian facility, he takes a break from the spy life. But when he becomes a spy again, he finds out that his past is harder to escape from than he thought. Spies, gays, the Cold War, and a killer soundtrack. What more do you need? Uploaded by the creator on Youtube for free.
Tumblr media
The Handmaiden // movie, nsfw, wlw
Sook-Hee’s a Korean pickpocket posing as a handmaiden to steal a Japanese heiress of her fortune. The plan gets complicated when Sook-Hee starts getting close to the heiress.
Tumblr media
Good Omens // tv show, book, mlm, trans
If you were on Tumblr in June 2019, you probably already know what’s up. If not, an angel and a demon fall in love with humanity (and maybe a little with each other) and decide to stop the end of the world together. The creators have confirmed that seeing the main characters as trans (or basically every other LGBT identity) is valid.
Tumblr media
I Love You, Philip Morris // movie, nsfw, mlm
Be Gay. Do Crime. And watch Jim Carrey and Ewan Mcgregor fall in love in prison. A very good romantic comedy that’s also based on a true story.
Tumblr media
The Adventure Zone // podcast, book, mlm, wlw, trans
A roleplaying podcast done by the McElroys. The first campaign, Balance, is a fantasy story with things like elves and dwarves. The second campaign, Amnesty, is a modern-day story in West Virginia with things like Bigfoot and the Mothman. Both of them are very good and very gay. The Balance arc also has a graphic novel adaptation.
Tumblr media
God’s Own Country // movie, nsfw, mlm
Think British Brokeback Mountain but instead of the main conflict being homophobia, it’s commitment issues. Has some more graphic sheep farming veterinary scenes. Overall, it’s very good.
Tumblr media
Check, Please! // webcomic, mlm
Eric “Bitty” Bittle, former figure skater, decides to join the hockey team at Samwell University. The main problem being that the whole concept of checking (physical contact on the ice) terrifies him. That, and the team captain is as hot as he is intimidating.
Tumblr media
The Rocky Horror Picture Show // movie, mlm
Straight-laced Brad and his fiance Janet’s car breaks down during a storm. Luckily for them, they stumble upon the mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a drag queen scientist, where they meet several other interesting characters, including Frank-N-Furter’s new creation, a man named Rocky, and lose their innocence. Think 1950s sci-fi meets 1970s sexual revolution or if Frankenstein was a musical.
Tumblr media
Firebringer // musical, wlw
You probably know about this musical through the whole “I don’t want to do the work today” vine. What that vine leaves out is that the show is about prehistoric bisexuals and their discovery of fire. Uploaded by the creator on Youtube for free.
Tumblr media
Call me By Your Name // book, movie, nsfw, mlm
Elio Perlman was expecting to have a normal summer in Italy where he would work on his music, read books, and spend time with his girlfriend. What he was not expecting was getting close to the handsome intern working for his father.
Tumblr media
Carry On // book, mlm
Enemies-to-lovers slow burn about a vampire and the Chosen One. Takes typical YA tropes and spins them on their heads. The sequel Wayward Son has just come out and the final book in the series, Any Way the Wind Blows, was just announced.
Tumblr media
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert // movie, mlm, trans
Two Australian drag queens and a trans woman go on a road trip through the Australian desert together. Some racist/transphobic scenes that have not aged well since the 90s but besides those it’s a pretty heartwarming story.
Tumblr media
Welcome to Night Vale // podcast, book, mlm, wlw, trans
A sci-fi horror podcast about a strange Western town called Night Vale and what goes on in it. Features a main gay character and lots of the side characters are also LGBT. There are several books that focus on different parts of the universe that you can also read.
Tumblr media
Brooklyn 99 // tv show, mlm, wlw
Weirdly, I haven’t seen this show put on any LGBT media recs before. The show follows the 99th precinct of the New York police department. While the main character is not gay himself (although he is either bi or EXTREMELY comfortable in his sexuality), his boss, the police captain, is an openly gay black man married to another man and one of the supporting characters later comes out as bisexual and has relationships with women. Overall, a very funny show that also offers a good commentary on issues that we deal with in society today.
Tumblr media
Rock and Riot // webcomic, wlw, mlm, trans, ace
Follows two rival gangs from the 1950s and their struggles with understanding their sexual orientation and gender identity. A little bit of period typical homophobia and racism but not so much that its a bummer.
Tumblr media
Professor Marston and the Wonder Woman // movie, nsfw, wlw
Contrary to what the title may lead you to believe, this is not a DC Universe movie. It’s actually about the creator of Wonder Woman and the lie detector and his polyamorous relationship with the two women who inspired Wonder Woman.
Tumblr media
Shameless // tv show, nsfw, mlm, wlw, trans
Focusing on the Gallager family, a low-income family from Chicago and their struggle to survive. One of the main characters, Ian, is openly gay and has had many relationships throughout the series, most notably his on-again-off-again relationship with Mickey Milkovich. Disclaimer: there are some scenes with some pretty brutal homophobia that can be very hard to watch. Also let’s just say that when Ian was a minor, not all of his relationships were with other minors.
Tumblr media
Alice Isn’t Dead // podcast, book, wlw
Keisha becomes a truck driver to find her missing wife who had been presumed dead (Alice). Because as it turns out, Alice isn’t dead. A very good horror mystery that captures American road trip gothic better than most pieces of media. Also has a book adaptation.
Tumblr media
The Favourite // movie, wlw
Abigail has lost everything. She has no money, no title, and no status. Lucky for her, she has a cousin, Sarah, who is very powerful and close to the Queen. She then begins to work at the palace and the two cousins compete for the favor of the queen, but their motivations to be close to the Queen are very different.
Tumblr media
Shaderunners // webcomic, mlm, wlw, trans
A 1920s style webcomic except homophobia doesn’t exist and neither does color, at least not for the proletariat. A group of people join together to change that (the color thing, not the homophobia thing). A very good representation of a variety of identities.
Tumblr media
Kill Your Darlings // movie, mlm
About the famous American poet Allen Ginsberg, his relationship with Lucien Carr, the beginning of the Beat generation of poetry, and the murder of David Krammer. Again with the period typical homophobia but nothing too extreme or disturbing.

Missing You
A nervous Agent Carvour silently unlocked the door to the familiar apartment. Luckily for him, it was empty.
He immediately crept inside and began to look through the owner’s possessions for anything suspicious. There were various suits and tuxedos lying around, as well as an empty bottle of champagne. To Agent Carvour, that was promising.
But he knew that the most valuable items would be stored in the refrigerator. He snuck into the kitchen, sighed at the mess on the counter, and opened the fridge.
His heart sank.
It barely contained anything, let alone what he was searching for. There was a large selection of cheeses and a worrying amount of chocolate. He thought it would be better for everyone if he took some, for spying purposes only.
Sitting down on the couch, he held his head in his hands with an air of defeat. His mission had been a failure. He needed to change that.
He checked in his pockets briefly, only to find a few loose pound coins. Damn. He should have come prepared for America.
Of course, there could always be some money lying around the apartment. So he decided to search. He started with the wardrobe, from which an odd aroma was being emitted. With no luck, he decided to look through the drawers that were unlocked.
Suddenly, an idea flashed into his mind. He rushed into the bedroom, now beginning to feel the pressure of time, and opened a particular drawer on the bedside table. He groaned when there wasn’t even a dollar in sight, but there was something else that caught his eye.
A small leather book. But not just any old book. He could sense a diary from a mile away.
Having given up on the search for money, he succumbed to his curiosity and slowly knelt down in order to rest the diary on the bedside table as he opened it carefully.
The first entry was dated back in last August, and didn’t consist of anything exciting. Just various missions and complaints about Cynthia Houston. However, as he skimmed through the pages closer to the current date, a certain name stood out. He decided to read them in further detail.
17-06-1955A boring day. My leg is almost fully healed and I should be back in the field in a few days. I miss Owen.
18-06-1955Got a new mission today. An easy one. Record all movements of a certain suspect. I was about to write their name but I can almost hear Owen scolding me for being so careless.
19-06-1955Rookie was ill today so I asked Cynthia to look after him while I was busy. I don’t think she’ll ever talk to me again. If Owen was here, then he’d do it in a heartbeat.
20-06-1955The suspect has been ruled out, turns out he was just keeping a dog secret from his wife. It was stupid, but it gives me more time to look after Rookie.
21-06-1955Turns out Rookie had caught a bug that was going round. I took him to the vet and she said to take him on walks more regularly and make sure he’s eating healthy. I hope Owen’s eating healthy, he looked so skinny last time I saw him.
22-06-1955I think Rookie misses Owen too. He dug out one of the old jackets he gave me and cuddled it all night. The jacket has now been torn to shreds, which is a shame because I loved that jacket. Sorry Owen.
23-06-1955I asked Cynthia if she’d give me a day off tomorrow. It took a bit of fighting, but I got my way.  I also asked her if she had any news about Owen. He’s still MIA. I hope he’s just undercover and that he’s okay. I’ll check again with Cynthia tomorrow. Just hearing that he’s alive would be the best birthday present I could ever wish for.
The entries ended there, and Agent Carvour felt something prickle in his eyes. He blinked away the tears immediately, not wanting to show his weakness.
He had become invested in these little notes, so he decided to read them all properly from the start. It would take a while, but it would be worth it. He could discover some very valuable information.
Curt Mega sighed as he reached the metal stairs that led up the side of the building to reach his apartment. The walk had been longer than he’d planned, which resulted in him being very tired with an over-excited Border Collie.
Suddenly, his dog started to bark hysterically and began to wag its tail like mad. It pulled against its lead, forcing Curt to let go, and sprinted up the steps.
“Rookie!” Called Curt, following the dog, “Calm down!”
Once he reached the top of the stairs, he gripped his side and breathed heavily for a few seconds, before walking through the open door of his apartment. He reached for his gun.
“Rookie? What’s wrong b-”
Curt froze. Rookie was gleefully rushing around a figure who was knelt next to his bed, holding his journal. His. Personal. Journal.
But then he noticed the tall, lean build of the figure, and the familiar dark hair slicked back in such a way that made Curt’s heart beat faster.
“Owen..?”
Agent Carvour turned his head to see Curt standing there with disbelief shining in his eyes.
“Curt…”
Hearing his voice was all the confirmation that Curt needed. He ran into Owen’s arms.
“I missed you so much. I thought you were dead.” He began to sob into the taller man’s shoulder. “I thought you had died. Cynthia told me today that you were presumed dead.”
Owen laughed softly as he gently rubbed Curt’s back. “I only just managed to get out of Russia. I’m supposed to report back in London, but I couldn’t miss your birthday, could I?”
Curt smirked and pulled away in order to view Owen’s pale yet beaming face.
“By the way,” Owen continued, “I’m outraged that you didn’t buy yourself a cake, Agent Mega.”
Curt laughed at the use of his nickname and lightly hit Owen on the arm. “Hey, I wasn’t going to celebrate your death, was I Agent Carvour?”
Owen shrugged. “Still. You deserve cake.”
It then occurred to Curt that his partner was still clutching his journal. He pointed to it hesitantly. “Did you uh, read that?”
Owen nodded and drew him in for another hug. Rookie danced around their feet. “Yes.” He whispered into his ear eventually.
Curt squeezed him harder. Owen winced.
Curt immediately pulled back, his arms still holding Owen’s shoulders, and looked at his partner anxiously. “What’s wrong?” He asked.
“Nothing.” Owen replied.
Shaking his head disapprovingly, Curt glared at Owen. “No, something is wrong.”
He let go of the other man’s shoulders and firmly stated: “Take off your shirt.”
If Owen’s eyebrows could have risen any higher, they would have touched the ceiling. He smirked coyly. “There’s a time and a place, Curt.”
“No, I’m serious.” Curt frowned. “Take it off.”
Owen sighed but relented. He removed his jacket (which Rookie instantly got a hold of and ran off happily with his new prize) and unbuttoned his shirt. Once that was off, he couldn’t meet Curt’s piercing gaze.
Curt circled the man, and sucked in a breath when he saw the injury. A long, bloody gash stretching all the way down Owen’s back. He felt the tears coming again.
“Who did this.” He said quietly. With only Owen’s hung head as a response, he repeated: “Who did this?! I swear I’m gonna kill ‘em!”
Owen chuckled drily. “I already did.”
The pair stood there for a few minutes in silence, neither wanting to ruin the precious moment. Until eventually, Owen yawned. “I’m sorry old boy, but I’m rather exhausted and I don’t seem to have a place to stay.”
Despite the situation, Curt grinned. “Say no more.”
Taking hold of Owen’s hand, he led him towards the bedroom. Whatever they had to face, they would face it tomorrow.
He smiled to himself. Birthday wishes do come true.

Mission Gone Right
AN: I got a lot of feels over Spies Are Forever, so I wrote what I think would’ve happened if the mission hadn’t gone wrong. So, yeah here it is.
Owen couldn't fool Curt. How stupid did he think he was? Seriously, was a hat and a fake mustache the best he could do? And Russian really wasn't his best accent. But as soon as he saw his friend walk in with his very own dumb henchman, he knew he had to play along. It was like a game to them; they would always play the part of a villain while the other was caught only to reveal their true identity and bust out.
So he cracked jokes and one liners and flashed a smile here and there, even when Olog nearly crushed his balls. He wasn't going to lie, he did get a little nervous when he saw the metal bat so close to his crotch. He was relieved when it knocked against his chair and hit Olag between the legs instead of him, and he shook his head in mock sympathy.
Curt had never seen Owen so into a character ever since he had been strapped to a spinning wheel and the Englishman had been posing as an "evil magician" who was "practicing his aim" by throwing knives at him when he refused to answer his questions. Owen was seriously lucky that he was a good shot or else Curt would've killed him. Evil magician, Russian interrogator, Owen sure had a thing for cliché disguises. He bent down close to his face, and he could feel his hot breath on his shoulder. It smelled minty. Of course it did. He always had mints or gum on him, and he was thankful that he had chosen the former because he really didn't want to hear him smacking in his ear. Instead he heard him ask, "Where do you get off?" Oh he should know better than to use such wording...
He rattled off various places where the two of them had hooked up and felt him back up in shock. Curt liked this. He liked that he still had a sense of power even when tied to a chair. His smug smile was quickly replaced by a look of fear when he saw Owen pull out a long white feather and ran it over his neck. Damnit he was pulling out the big guns and if Curt kept up with his tough guy act who knows how long his friend will torture him for, so he easily gave in. But he still swiped the feather from his ears to his jaw, but finally backed off.
Finally Owen said the line that always indicates it's him before he tears off his disguise: "Personal history does have its benefits, Mega."
Curt rolled his eyes to the ceiling and watched as he shot both of Olag's kneecaps, sending him crumbling to the floor. In a swift motion, he rips off his mustache and hat, shaking out his hair. "Owen Carvour you limey bastard, I knew it was you all along. That accent sure could use some work though."
"Oh sod off, it fooled 20 Russian security officers and our dear friend Olag over here," he said with a smirk. After knocking him out and running and gunning their way through the building, Curt answered the call from his boss. Only to have Owen grab his wrist so that he could talk to her instead. He swore she liked him better, and he wasn't even part of their agency, but he couldn't blame her. He was very charming, even after letting a poor excuse of a bad guy "rough him up a bit."
And since the rocket shoes were a no go and the watch was boring, it was time to blow up the building. They were heading down the stairs and Curt just finished his healthy on the job snack and tossed the banana peel on the ground. At Owen's incredulous look, he explained, "What? The whole place is gonna be garbage in a few minutes anyway, who gives a shit?"
"Uh, I do because you just knocked off that safety rail, and that is a very bad place for a banana peel. They are slippery you know, it's not just in cartoons."
"Well do you see a trash can anywhere?"
"Yes, as a matter of fact I do." Curt didn't like that look in his eye, and punched him in the arm when he grabbed the peel and tossed it on his head. Owen laughed and turned around, and no sooner than he did he started mocking him behind his back, pretending to hold a teacup with his pinky up and silently repeating what he said, shifting his jaw to the right to match his crooked smile. Owen sensed something was up but when he looked back at Curt he seemed to be doing nothing.
"Y'know, I think you were exaggerating when you said that accent fooled 20 security guards. You sure you didn't mean two?" he teased with a smirk, jabbing him with his elbow. He shot him a glare, "No you twit, I know how to bloody count." Curt held his hands up defensively, "Hey all I'm saying is it needs a little work." They then reached the bottom of the stairs, setting the timer.
"Atta boy, three it is." He knew they were pushing their luck by setting the timer so low, leaving no room for error. Lucky for them they don't often have those, and he has to admit it's an exhilarating game they share. They both live for the thrill of the rush, the adrenaline coursing through their veins. They were about to leave when suddenly they were surrounded.
They froze like deer in the headlights, standing back to back, their hands in the air. Well, they've been in worse situations... The ground beneath their feet began to shake and their captors fell to the ground, but they were able to keep their footing. They needed to get out of there immediately or else they were gonna blow.
"That's our cue, love," Owen shouted and grabbed him by the wrist. They ran up the stairs and rounded the sharp turn, where Owen almost lost his footing. Curt grabbed his arm and pulled him close before continuing their daring escape. "Told you that would've been a bad place for a banana peel!"
Curt huffed out an irritated breath, "Yeah yeah, can we just get out of here and do the I told you so's outside when we're not about to die?"
"Sure thing love, I'll get right on that. Say, how much time do you suppose we have left to get out with our bodies intact?"
"I'd say about a minute and 15 seconds."
"Christ! Cutting it a bit close, aren't we Mega?"
"Which is why it'll feel even better when we make it out!"
"You better be right about this!"
"Relax, I'm always right."
"Oh get off your high horse, clearly that interrogation did nothing to humble you."
Curt found the exit and kicked down the door. They ran as fast as they could through the parking lot and turned around just in time to see the building explode. They let out triumphant cries, jumping into the air and high five-ing each other. They hugged one another in a tight embrace, relishing in the flames and shrapnel. Curt let out a sigh of relief, "That was close."
"I'll say." Owen turned to look at him and locked their gaze, reaching out to grip his shoulders tightly. "But there will be no beating this record. We barely made it out with time to spare, and I for one am quite pleased with this time. I mean three minutes, that's quick."
"Under three minutes," Curt corrected him.
"That's barely the length of a song," Owen mused.
"Cynthia's going to be very pleased I'll say and- oh no."
"What do you mean oh no?"
"The blueprints, I must've dropped them!"
"ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?" Owen yelled in shock and anger. "We just nearly died and you're telling me that they're now destroyed because of your butterfingers?"
Curt tried his best to keep a straight face, but the upturned corners of his mouth gave him away and he couldn't help but to start laughing. He was doubled over as Owen placed his hands on his hips, chewing the inside of his cheek to keep his own smile under wraps. He wagged a finger at him, "You're luck I didn't punch you in the face."
"Oh no, you'll leave that to our dear friend Olag, won't you?"
"Don't be so sore about it, it was all in good fun. And you held your own very well I would say, it's always best to have practice. Besides, I made sure to grab the least competent person I could find."
Curt narrowed his eyes, studying his friend. "How did you know he was the least competent?"
"Because I saw him follow seven men through a push door and when he reached it he still tried to pull," Owen said with a laugh, and his partner couldn't help but join.
"No wonder you were the better interrogator. Even if your accent was bad."
"You're still hung up about that fucking accent?Next time I'll be sure to use my Cockney one instead since you're so critical."
"Hey, I'm sure anything else would be better than "real-rerearelreareally nice"," he said doing his best impression of his terrible accent, and even Owen had to chuckle.  "In this business you need to be on your A game." He flashed him a grin and winked.
Owen scoffed, "Says the secret agent who caved to a little tickling." He smirked as Curt's face fell, "I only did because you were wasting time and Cynthia wants these blueprints ASAP." He started walking to where his car was but Owen just walked with him, even stepping in front of him and walking backwards so he could face him. He hoped the smug bastard would trip.
"You sure that's the only reason Mega?" he asked, wiggling his eyebrows. Curt looked away, trying to hide his blush. Only when he looked down, he saw what Owen had in his hand and a nervous smile found its way onto his face and he held a hand up defensively. "Because personal history does have it's benefits." He reached out and Curt tried to duck away, but was a second too slow. He immediately burst into high pitched giggles, trying to swat his hand away.
"Now what was it you said earlier? That you're "deathly ticklish behind your neck and ears"? Because that's what I seem to remember. I wonder what good ol' Cynthia would say when she finds out the great Curt Mega surrendered to a feather."
He finally managed to wiggle free of his grasp and panted, "She will never find out, because I'll kill you if you tell her. I'd never hear the end of it! She'd kick my ass and fire me before I could even defend myself against your lies. 'Cause for some reason she believes just about anything you say."
"Not a lie because that's how it happened. And good to know about Cynthia. Totally not going to use that to my advantage. Say, you wouldn't mind if I left this with her would you?" he questioned, twirling the feather between his fingers.
Curt rolled his eyes, "As long as it's not in your hands I'm fine. And I was serious when I said she wanted these ASAP, because the longer you keep me the longer I'll get chewed out for how long I took," he emphasized.
"Don't worry, I'll use my new found knowledge to protect you from her lecture. I'm sure as soon as I say that you had to wait on me she won't be mad."
It turns out Owen was right. As always. And the next day when he was called into her office, he wondered why she seemed so... he wouldn't necessarily say happy but, amused. It wasn't until he tried to leave and he felt something light and fluffy brush over his neck did it all make sense. He whipped around to see a smiling Cynthia holding the white feather. She tilted her head to the side, feigning innocence. "Was there something else?" He knew from the teasing look in her eyes that she was never going to let him live this down. He was going to kill Owen.

why i love curt mega
look, first off i want to say Curt Mega the actor is amazing- but we’re talking about the character right now. and now, to the actual post:
curt mega is actually an amazing character. but we’re well past that, aren’t we? as a fandom, we know how amazing curt is; but i don’t think we give enough credit to what he had to go through emotionally throughout saf, given through emotional and historical context.
let’s start with the historical context. if you are lgbt or know the basics about lgbt treatment in the Stonewall Era, you’ll know the bullshit that lgbt (and in this case gay people) went through. But here’s some basic information if you don’t:
most gay men were considered to be pedophiles, and portrayed from anything from commercials to PSAs as praying on young boys
most gay bars were raided almost weekly by police in New York an all over the US, and many were arrested
if you were found to be gay by your employer, you were fired and in some cases, you could even serve jail time for your sexuality
in 1952,  the American Psychiatric Association listed homosexuality as a mental disorder
if you were sent to any sort of mental institution for your ‘disorder’ you could be subjected to horrific ‘treatments’- anything from lobotomies to sterilization to a drug injected into your arm that made it feel you were being drowned
There are so many more things I could go into detail on about the mistreatment of gay people in the Stonewall Era, but that would be overkill. From those few examples, we can clearly see how hard it was to be gay in that time era. There was no coming out- you were out or, frankly, your life was in danger. Now, Curt Mega is a gay man in the 60s, who’s working for the American government. Not only is being gay a threat to his job, he works for the government- he most likey knew the risks of being a gay spy.
Now with knowing the historical context, we can really get into why curt mega’s story is so tragic. when curt met owen, he took a big risk by coming onto/flirting along with owen. but once they both knew they liked men, they started what we can assume is a secret relationship. they really only had each other to rely on at the end of the day. because of course their coworkers and parents love them, but if they were to be caught together, it’s the end of the line for the both of them. they couldn’t draw attention to themselves, or the run the risk of being discovered. so, their missions together must’ve meant a lot to the both of them. they got to see each other more often, they could be close together without suspicion, and they could even share a room and no one would bat an eyelash. the missions to them must’ve been heaven.
but then when owen died on one of their missions, no wonder it came as a huge blow to curt. the one person he loved, he trusted, he needed, was gone. once again he was forced to conform to this straight persona he put on 24/7. it had to have taken it’s toll on him. his one true love was dead- it’s not a surprise he turned to alcohol to cope. but then he finds out owen is alive, but he’d now completely head-deep in hatred to his former lover. owen no longer sees curt has his partner in crime and in love. no, he only sees curt as his enemy.
Now imagine what that must feel like to curt his once-in-a-lifetime lover is now against him. the man who once knew everything about him, every secret, every weakness, every quirk is now trying to kill him. everything that curt saw as safe is now shattered, leaving only the horrid realization that life is always going to be full of heartache and loss for him- he’s a gay man in the 60s, it’s what came with his identity. but he still keeps smiling. after all that he’s been though, at the end he sees what he has, and he’s able to smile.
And that’s why curt mega is so important. he shows that no matter who you are, what your demons are, no matter where you come from, you can be your own hero. you can save yourself, but you don’t have to do it alone. you can have a support system and help recover after a traumatic event/life. that’s an important message to send for kids and young adults today. no matter what you’ve been through, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
That’s why i love curt mega.
if you want to know more about the Stonewall Riots and more of the injustices lgbt people faced in the early-mid 1960s, feel free to message me and/or check out this documentary: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/films/stonewall/

Randy Savage Unreleased: The Unseen Matches of the Macho Man
youtube
Tumblr media
Freak out, freak out, oh yeahhhhh…..sorry I could not resist, but kicking off an entry with that iconic catchphrase means it is time to cover a Macho Man home video collection. In 2018 WWE gave Macho Man the ‘Unreleased’ DVD treatment, a line of several DVD match collections containing entirely never before released on home video matches. I already covered one on here several months ago dedicated to Hulk Hogan, so it would only seem appropriate to cover another one dedicated to his Mega Powers partner, Randy Savage. Like the Hogan DVD, it has a gratuitously long title in the form of Randy Savage Unreleased: The Unseen Matches of the Macho Man (trailer). If you are into these ‘Unreleased’ sets, then check back here later this year as there are two other semi-recent installments I plan on knocking out by the end of this year. Randy Savage Unreleased is jacked with content at three discs tallying up nine hours of material. There is a total of 41 (!!) matches and 9 promos spanning Macho’s career in WWF and WCW from 1985 through 1999. Also interspersed every several matches is one of 10 newly recorded panel discussion segments with Corey Graves, Bayley, Sean Mooney and Diamond Dallas Page. The panel discussions are not throwaway one-to-minute quick takes, but instead each are nearly several minutes each where all four panelists reminisce about each stage of Macho’s career with Mooney and Page both having pivotal on-hand accounts for how Savage was at that point backstage too. Page has detailed memories of his classic WCW rivalry with Randy and recounts a story I was all ears for about a voice mail he left for Macho on Thanksgiving. Hearing Bayley’s love for Randy was an interesting perspective to take in since she states she was not aware of him until his WCW years. Corey Graves’ passion for the 1993-as-hell Macho Man rap music video rubbed off on me as I never saw it before this collection and I will link to it here so you can have it forever imprinted into your mind as well.
Tumblr media
Obviously I am not going to dissect each and every one of the 41 matches included here, but I will point out some highlights. In general, the quality of matches is fairly solid, and even though a fair amount of the first nine matches are in Macho’s early years with mostly quick, dominant encounters they were still a delight to watch his character evolve from coming out with a cape to adding in his vintage 80s bandana and ring robe and seeing his then-wife Miss Elizabeth join his side. Some early things that caught my eye were Macho’s first TV match in June of 1985 against Aldo Marino where the hype of Randy being the ‘hottest free agent’ attracted all of WWF’s managers to ringside to scout him in action. One of Jesse Ventura’s few WWF matches is here where he tags with Macho Man shortly before he succumbed to a career-ending injury not too long after signing with the WWF. I dug Savage’s first matches on here against formidable competition like former tag champ and Mark Henry manager, Tony Atlas and unearthing a high quality 1986 WWF match against the hidden gem of 80s WWF enhancement talent in one Scott McGhee. When it shifts into his Intercontinental title run, there is a good rematch included with Ricky Steamboat that had a red hot crowd and countless near falls and another good match against Steamboat where he teamed up with Honky Tonk Man against Steamboat and Hogan. His WWF Title run era features must-see WrestleMania-rematches against Ted Dibiase and Hulk Hogan.
Tumblr media
Of all of Randy Savage’s flamboyant ring attires, the one I fondly remember the most was his over-the-top cowboy hat and full body attire complete with tassels. I had no idea until going through this collection that he started rocking that classic look midway through his two year run as the ‘Macho King’ with Queen Sherri by his side. The only notable match in this collection from that run is another WrestleMania-rematch with the mixed tag bout with Macho King and Sherri against Dusty Rhodes and Sapphire. There are nearly a dozen matches from Savage’s final few years in WWF after his reinstatement, but only three truly standout. One is a unique trios pairing that has Randy teaming with Piper and Jim Duggan against Ric Flair, Undertaker and Jake the Snake, while the other is another tag bout with Randy teaming with the Dead Man to take on Ric Flair and Berzerker. Seeing the chemistry between Savage and Undertaker was something special to say the least. Lastly, Savage has a heck of a bout with a post-Red Rooster, Terry Taylor in one of the better technical matches on the set. There are a few key WCW matches to point out in here from the eight included. One is where he is part of the teaming with the Hulkster against the Dungeon of Doom and hitting all the classic Mega Powers spots, including hitting an elbow on Hogan to wake him up after he succumbed to a sleeperhold. There is an awesome Nitro match on here against Ric Flair…which has a cruddy finish unfortunately, but everything else leading up to it is the best wrestling in this entire set. The most peculiar match on here is Savage wrestling on a C-tier weekend morning WCW show, {Pro} where he takes on Kurasawa and has Hulk Hogan by his side too in a strange twist. I am guessing Savage and Hogan must be tight with Kurasawa because these two were making huge money for limited dates in WCW and to have both of them appear in this weekend morning show match is a head scratcher…..it would be kind of like tuning in to Main Event now and seeing Brock Lesnar wrestling. The final match in the set was a surprisingly delightful schmoz of a mixed tag match with Savage and Madusa teaming up with Ric Flair and “Lil Naitch” himself, Charles Robinson! I expected the worst going in considering this was in 19990 when WCW was beginning its downward ratings spiral in its last couple years, but the four pull off a lot of entertaining spots and salvaged a heck of a performance.
Tumblr media
Randy Savage Unreleased is a fairly strong compilation of matches and promos from Macho Man. I would say about a third of it is skippable, and there are a few teases of intriguing match-ups that wrapped up far too quick thanks to poor booking, like a WCW contest against Curt Hennig for example. I have no idea why there were two ho-hum matches against Mr. Hughes included either. That is almost to be expected of these ‘Unreleased’ collections, and seeing Savage’s character, moveset, attire and personality evolve from beginning to end is also fascinating in and of itself. I am glad we got a fair smattering of vintage Macho Man promos throughout his career, with his campaigning reinstatement speech and the aforementioned music video standing out the most of the bunch. Having a break from the 41 matches with the occasional promo and panel discussion segments are appreciated breathers from the action, and the panelists all bring a lot of classic Macho Man stories and memories to the table. This all adds up to Randy Savage Unreleased: The Unseen Matches of the Macho Man being a must-see for any Randy Savage aficionado.
