sometimes, I think about the fact that Haruka has NOTHING in his real life. His father is clearly out of the picture, his mother is... you know, his classmates probably ignore (or bully) him IF he is in school currently which is a big if, and if Mirai is a real person (I'm one of the "Mirai is Haruka/a symbolism of a part of himself" truthers... I have more than one theory about his murder ok), she appeared to be the only person in Haruka's life whom he had a good relationship with... but she's dead. At his own hands' doing. And that makes me think about how that probably makes Haruka feel 10x more remorseful for his murder; he didn't kill someone of the many people in his life who treated him like trash, he killed the only person who cared about him, the only person he really had. To make matters worse in AKAA Haruka is shown to be having kinda a whole mental breakdown, I believe that the murder was an impulse decision when he wasn't in his right mind, at that time. So I can't help but imagine, when he comes back to his senses and calms down, and sees Mirai's dead body, realizing that not only is she gone but his hands will also forever be stained with her blood... sorry, I'm having a lot of thoughts about their relationship in the case that Mirai is a real person....

Mirai aside, this also makes me wonder what will happen at the end of milgram. Will Haruka just, go back to his shitty mom and awful life? It made me reconsider whether I want him to be inno in T3 or not (currently I still do plan on voting him inno) because if the outcome of being inno is returning to the outside world with absolutely zero changes made I absolutely don't want that... You could think about this for other prisoners too. If Mikoto went back to his regular life, he'll start killing himself working again. If Amane went back to her regular life, she'll probably get punished and we know how inhumanely cruel her cult is when it comes to punishments (a fucking taser... on a child...) I'm just going to keep thinking about my half-joke AU where the prisoners live together as a found family after kidnapping Haruka and Amane from their households

I think you mean the Dreamcatcher post from last night? they're a k-pop girl group that I really like and they have one music video in particular that I keep falling in love with over and over again that's set in a high fantasy royalty setting, it's really pretty, no clue if you're a fan of k-pop or rock ballads, but the direction and spectacle of it is fantastic so worst case you can just mute the video and watch

finally wrote down some notes on the new single so in case you enjoy rambly music thoughts, here you go:

the devil in me is my favourite part of the release for sure, which i'm really pleased about. i personally find that with their single releases, the remakes can sometimes even overshadow the new song (especially since i tend not to be the biggest fan of their lead singles in general for some reason), but this time that was definitely not the case for me.

i'm really liking the vibe of the song. it's quite laid back and palatable despite being heavier on the vocals. i like that it's lower tempo and quite bass heavy, leaving quite a bit of "air" in between the higher guitars and vocal track, making it really stand out. kyo, i think, is using his range quite smartly here, and everything sounds quite smooth and effortless. i love whenever he does the choral background vocals, and i think they really elevate the second half of the chorus.

instrumental-wise, my favourite bit is for sure the outro. i love how the song sort of mellows down but manages to keep the tension, ending on a discordant note that really mirrors the feeling of frustration and despair expressed in the text.

thematically, the song reminds me of tiw, but it's also reminiscent of some of their mid-era songs (esp the riffs in the verses). however, it feels quite fresh as well for the reasons i mentioned earlier. my main issue with this whole release is once again with the mixing; more on that when i get to the remakes.

the music video concept is quite interesting and also feels like a continuation to some of the themes on tiw and phalaris. the use of ai in the visuals has been mentioned in a lot of the discussions and i'm not going to get too deep into that; i'm just going to say that while i can see why it was used in the context of this particular video, i'm generally apprehensive of it (not least because of its implications for artists) and hope it doesn't become a recurring thing.

also, everyone's outfits and makeup are 1000/10.

as for the remakes, i was unsure as to how these two songs in particular could be adapted to suit their modern style, and i have to say i feel that these particular re-recordings were done more with the current tour in mind and not so much with the idea of breathing new life into the songs (unlike with 19990120 which i felt was wonderfully executed). the arrangements are quite true to the originals (despite the cage intro getting a horror movie makeover), and while they are certainly technically well executed, i personally couldn't quite get as immersed in the vibe with these remakes as with the og versions.

there are certainly bits in the remakes i was excited about, namely the cage intro and bridge (love the mellow vocals!) as well as kyo's phrasing in the yokan vocals, but i think their current mixing does a pretty big disservice to these kinds of songs in particular. the way everything is so compressed and at times muddy makes the songs feel a little lustreless and rushed.

still, i think it's incredible they re-recorded these songs (never would've thought i'd see the day!) and i need a remake of the yokan mv stat lol

all in all, looking at the devil in me, i'm excited for any new songs to come! as i usually tend to like their second single release of a new album cycle more than the first, i am quite eager to see what's in store.
