 Lucretia wakes slowly to a dark room. Her side stings, and she can barely make out pinpricks of light. She tries to clear her vision, to see where she is and why but her eyes drift shut and she sinks deep into the softness of the bed.

The next time she wakes with a scream. The sword hits her side again. Cam’s body disintegrates beneath him. She presses forsake. Claws slash from nowhere. A memory she can’t get back. Cam’s legs and arms. She presses forsake. Life sucked out of her body. She betrays her friend. The -

 “Lucretia.” A worried voice pierces her thoughts. She feels a firm hand on her shoulder. The hand moves to cradle her cheek. It’s soft and the voice familiar.

 “Lucretia, it’s okay.” The voice says, and she can hear it now low and comforting,  Maureen. “You’re safe. We’re up in the air, miles above anything that could hurt you. It’s okay. It’s okay.”

 Lucretia’s eyes open to a bright room and Maureen’s smiling face in front of her. She got out. She didn’t succeed, but she’s safe now. She’ll go back when the time is right

 “I got out.” She says, relief coursing through the words, her mouth rising up and then all of a sudden dropping down, as she remembers what she did to get here. “Maureen, how did you find me?”

“Davenport got agitated a few hours after you left. You said not to follow but I tracked your stone of farspeech. Or I tried to! You were entirely off the map for a week. I thought you were dead!

 “When the signal came back on I raced the base towards you.” Maureen continues. “Made sure Lucas was tucked away somewhere he couldn’t mess with the controls and dropped down to the surface. I couldn’t tell if it was you at first, your clothes were ripped and well, you looked so much older. But you were gripping your staff so tight and I always thought your eyes were too old for your body. I knew it was  you . I got you back here into the infirmary, and drove the base as far away as it would go.”

 Lucretia tries to sit up, but the stitches in her side scream at her. She winces at the pain. “T-thank you.” She says.

 Maureen shifts her hand to Lucretia’s hair. They spend a moment resting in each other’s eyes.

 “So,” Maureen says, all cool and collected, like rescuing women from their doom is a casual pastime, “is this your real face?”

 Lucretia can feel herself recoil. Though she can feel the additional weariness of age in her body, she barely caught glimpses of how it changed her face.

 “You don’t need to answer right away.” Maureen says quickly, “You don’t need to answer at all.” She shifts her spare hand to hold Lucretia’s. “I’m just glad you’re alive.”

 “Sorry,” Lucretia says. “I- “ She’s thinking now. Considering all the possible stories she could tell. Her eyes scan the room. She recognizes it as the infirmary in Maureen’s skybase, but Maureen has moved a few more of her robots in. The walls are white, with a large window looking off into the night. Maureen stands next to a small blue chair.

 When Lucretia had first met Maureen she had not been expecting anything. A brief chat had turned into correspondence, book recommendations, and discussions of the planar system. Maureen would send her sketches of robots she hoped to build. Lucretia would write her stories of who those robots could be, and of robots with souls that she had met.

 When she realised what she and her family had done, Lucretia stopped replying.

 Lucretia thinks of this now. Thinks of the half-truths she has told Maureen, the lies of permanent omission, the erasure of Maureen’s family and their attempts at heroic deaths. (Lucretia has learnt that death is only heroic in a retelling.) She thinks of the way Maureen made her laugh and how after everything started to go wrong, and Lucretia tried to show up as a stranger on her doorstep offering peeks at impossible technology in exchange help. Of how Maureen had remembered her and laughed and said: “Oh, Lucy, you could have just asked me on a date”.

 “I’m afraid,” Lucretia says. “I haven’t been entirely truthful.”

 Maureen has one of those smiles that look destined to be a laugh. Like is doesn’t matter what Lucretia says next, that she'll still be here. Lucretia wonders if she’ll ever see that look again.

  “And I can’t tell you the truth right now, I physically cannot tell you, but I promise you, Maureen. I can explain everything.”

 “Darling,” Maureen says. “Assuming Lucas doesn’t break the base, I can wait as long as you need.”

 It takes Lucretia two days to be well enough to get back to the Starblaster again. Two days of her decision gnawing at her heart.

 Davenport comes to visit her, bounding into the room. He manages a few words that aren’t his name now and again. Occasionally she imagines a glance that looks almost like worry.

 Lucas sulks at the entrance to the infirmary. He doesn’t know, but the school he used to go to was destroyed in the relic wars. A beautiful old place, near Neverwinter. She had considered posting Barry as a teacher there.

 In parts, she tells Maureen the things she can. That she travelled for many years. That Davenport wasn’t just her ward. When she tries to say Captain the phrase turns to static. That this look isn’t her real age, but neither was the one before. Maureen laughs when Lucretia calms and replies “Both looks do it for me”.

 Sometimes she forgets that while Maureen can remember  her , not all the stories they shared were so lucky.

 (Sometimes she catches the look that Maureen tries to hide from her. The one that says she suspects more than she’s letting on, that the holes in her own life are becoming more apparent. The one that says that as much as she cares about Lucretia, she’s worried.)

 Lucretia intends to go to the Starblaster alone. Retrieve some of the voidfish ichor and give it to Maureen. However, Lucretia is still recovering and this isn’t something she can put off for longer. They go together.

 It’s not well thought out process like it could be in the future. Lucretia’s books lay in piles in the floor. She has to clean an old coffee cup, stand on a footstool and scoop the ichor from the top of the tank. The cup says ‘Worlds Best Captain’ on it. Lucretia only notices that when Maureen starts to drink.

 When Maureen drinks, she stands tall for a moment, and then collapses inwards, still standing. Lucretia sits them both down on her bed, takes one of Maureen’s hands in hers and tries to explain. A part of her wishes she had done this in static if only so she wouldn’t have to see the pain clear of Maureen’s face and keep talking.

 “I have to check on Lucas.” Maureen will say once Lucretia’s done, and for that moment she won’t be able to look Lucretia in the eye.

 But you don’t become the sole surviving member of the Miller legacy without learning how to keep inventing. If Maureen keeps her son closer after this, stares more deeply into the plane of thought, holds the woman she loves tighter and tells her that they cannot do this alone, then perhaps the world would be a better place for it.

please Shi explain the gravity metaphors it's what the people want

KJSHGJDK well i knew I’d make this post eventually

Under the cut because spoilers for I Don’t Hate The Gravity. Also, while these are indeed the intentions I had writing the story, maybe not everyone caught on them or straight up interpreted them different from what I intended, which is also valid. Take this more as a fun little bit of trivia than word of God.

To tie the last post I reblogged, both the Voidfish and the actual literal force of gravity(tm) are a metaphor of Johann.

I want to clarify that first and foremost Fisher is its own character, with its own backstory and motivations, and those aspects weren’t written with Johann in mind. The whole “being stolen by Magnus and Lucretia from evil rich people” thing was literally just to draw a parallel from canon (also to explain why the fuck a random small town school has an exotic, highly rare, highly fragile animal in its care)

Most of the parallels between Johann and Fisher are pretty straight forward. They’re both shy, fragile creatures, trapped in a paradox of needing social interactions to live a healthy life but generally disliking strangers. Also they both hate Wagner, though Fisher doesn’t have a preference for Bach like Johann does.

Fisher is mostly there to paralell Johann’s struggles in its own way (like the whole Mortifying Ordeal Of Being Known mini-arc), and it’s ultimately the only one who understands him, which is why the biggest feelings of betrayal come when the Voidfish favours things (or people) Johann doesn’t like (though he does eventually, like Magnus)

For the next part, I’m just gonna go ask you to watch the video of the song I based the title on, because 1) it’s very relevant to whats coming, and 2) it’s a bop.

Understanding now that Fisher is a metaphor for Johann himself, it puts into context that last scene before the fight in Spring, part I, where Johann falls asleep in class and dreams about NASA’s jellyfish. Johann’s cynicism towards those random jellyfishes who didn’t even ask to be raised in zero gravity is just him being mean to his younger self, who was “raised on zero gravity” (aka was a child genius) then was brought back to gravity (aka was faced with failure for the first time).

This is also why he sees ‘Fisher’ swimming outside the window during his dream. In this case, the Voidfish is just a representation of his own self, and to answer its question:

It’s not that I hated gravity. The truth is... I’ve hated myself that cannot defy it.

Of course, gravity means more than just “failing”. The force of gravity is Johann’s life. Everyone’s life, really, but specifically the parts that are unavoidable, like growing up, with all of the restrictions one is unaware of during childhood. Suddenly, they start pulling you down, and you find yourself missing the years where it seemed like these laws didn’t apply to you.

(Sidebar: At some point I was planning on an actual anti-gravity theme, which is the opposite? Kinda? Like, the good things in life, friends, dreams, having fun. In my original idea for the dream, Johann was actually in the football field and everyone was above him, to signify that they had already found the way to defy gravity while Johann was stuck in the ground, which in turn was a metaphor for how Johann feels like everyone’s got life figured out but himself. But that was too confusing.)

Anyway, that whole spiraling episode gets kinda worse when you realize Johann was only yelling at Fisher because he was angry at himself. Which is kind of a big point about the story, that for how much Johann claims to hate people, he really just hates himself the most, for not being good enough at the one thing he was suppossed to be.

When the fight ends, Johann has to apologize twice: once to Avi, and once to the Voidfish (and Lucretia, but she comes with FIsher). Avi’s apology is as straight forward as it gets (I hope), but there’s a few things about Fisher I want to point out.

FULL DISCLAIMER I didn’t think much about it (Fisher’s apology) at first, I only included it in the middle of Spring, part II after some feedback from @johann-adventurezone​, who really wanted to see some closure there. So again, I can’t take much credit for what I’m about to say as I didn’t really think of it as I wrote.

That said, Fisher forgives Johann really fast, in a way I think, had I had a bigger following, would become a controversial point of discussion among readers (gravity fandom discourse go). Fisher comes from a background of abuse, and Johann lashing out at it triggers those memories. I think (and understand why) people would argue if Johann even deserves forgiveness. I believe he does, that’s why I wrote it. If anything, the fact that Fisher was capable of leaning against his hand in the epilogue should serve as proof that Johann worked to redeem himself those last months of class, though you’ll have to take my word for it since I didn’t make it explicit. That one’s on me, show don’t tell.

But Fisher is, after all, an animal, and animals are capable of more forgiveness than us. Wether Johann deserves it or not, Fisher forgave him. Which also happens to coincede with Johann opening himself to play for more people again.

So, in a way, Fisher forgiving Johann is also a symbol of Johann forgiving himself. :)

but!!! about the other birds!!!!! i have put so much thought into this so first let me just put everything in the order of which i think forgiveness happens

merle/lup (during s&s)

magnus (during s&s)/davenport (shortly after s&s)

barry (a while after s&s)

taako (a while after s&s)

and now, my explanations:

merle: from the get-go of s&s, we see that merle never treats lucretia with animosity. while taako and magnus are pointing their weapons at her, merle is constantly asking what they’re doing and trying to get them to put their weapons down. also, canonically, i think it’s safe to say that merle doesn’t hold much of a grudge. he appears to like kravitz, even though kravitz almost killed him and had probably some hand (pun intended) in merle’s loss of faith for a little bit. he also greeted john warmly and kindly, even though their last interaction involved merle telling john to “kiss my ass, you sanctimonious bastard.” also, though, maybe it’s just me, but i saw merle and lucretia as two very good friends. in stolen century, he constantly encouraged her and was the one to tell her that she should consider taking on a more leaderlike role. in the bureau, he admired the faith she had in herself. so, i think he would forgive lucretia first because, honestly? that’s just how merle is. not only does he admire lucretia and see her as a good friend, but it’s just in his nature. also, important to note, merle obviously loves his kids, and without lucretia, he wouldn’t have his kids. so, w/ the prior friendship he had with lucretia/madame director, his personality, and what he got after the voidfishing, i think he was always in a state of forgiving lucretia.

lup: see this post

magnus: magnus is actually interesting in my opinion because, if it wasn’t for the fact that he found happiness in raven’s roost, i think he would be a lot less inclined to forgive lucretia. during stolen century, magnus learned how to ask for help and really became “the protector” during those one hundred years. he gained a family, and a dear pet, that he swore he would protect. however, this was lost after the voidfishing. he still wanted to protect but he didn’t exactly know who, or what. factor in the fact that he was the first one to start distrusting the director, plus the fact that he was getting very close with the voidfish, who didn’t seem to know how to answer any of his questions about the director, and all of that would add up to a rocky forgiveness of lucretia. except, now we have to consider two things. one being the fact that travis said it’s canon that magnus saw how hard of a decision lucretia had to make and, because of that, magnus doesn’t hold a lot of malice against her. the second thing that i think we need to consider is raven’s roost. after stolen century, i think we can say that magnus got the “happiest voidfishing,” in a way. he had raven’s roost, a stable job. he lead a city through a revolution that they all believed to be a success. he found the love of his life. it is canon that those years in raven’s roost were some of the happiest years magnus has ever experienced. if magnus didn’t have raven’s roost, didn’t at one point have julia, i think it would’ve been a lot harder for him to forgive her, bc what would he have had? he would’ve lost his friends, and who’s to say what life he would’ve made outside of raven’s roost. but, because lucretia was technically responsible for him going to raven’s roost and eventually finding julia (and stephen), i think that also factors into his forgiveness of her (plus the canonical stuff travis said, which i am 100% here for).

davenport: i firmly think that davenport forgives lucretia fairly quickly after s&s. now, you might be saying, “jordyn, what the actual fuck,” and don’t worry, i said the same thing to myself. but play with me in this space, give me a chance. i would put lucretia at lawful good, or at least in the “good” category between lawful/neutral. davenport, i think, falls kinda more around true lawful/true neutral. and this, i think, would factor into his forgiveness of lucretia. in stolen century, i think we saw early on that davenport is a very “means to the end” type of guy. he was the one who suggested destroying the crystal on the robot planet. he suggested blowing up the sacred mountain of the conservatory. by cycle 66, he was angry and tired. in cycle, what, 92? when they voted on the relics? davenport didn’t actually vote! he never expressed his opinion on the matter. he let the majority decide because, with whatever they chose, he would go along with it as long as they could see an end to their journey. then, during s&s, he was the one to suggest leaving. he was the one to suggest killing the voidfish. throughout seeing his actual character, and not just voidfished davenport, we see him constantly pushing towards the gruesome, though some might say “easy way out,” decisions. bc that’s who he is. destroy the crystal bc, even if it hurts people now, it will stop the hunger later. destroy the mountain bc, even if it sucks for this world, we can use the light to save other ones. make a decision between relics and a barrier because, even though we don’t know the results now, it could help later. leave this world, people are gonna die now, but we can try again next cycle. kill the voidfish, because then everyone can fight back. see? very “means to an end.” so, now, how does this factor into forgiveness? w/ the other birds’ forgiveness, it’s hinged on a much more emotional/social level. merle forgives bc it’s in his nature. magnus forgives bc of the bonds he has formed. davenport, though? it’s all… pragmatic, professional, almost? i think he would look at lucretia, at what she had done, and then at the fact that they saved the world, and would think, “well, she did what she had to, because without that, we wouldn’t have saved this world.” i don’t think he enjoyed being turned into just his name, and i still think he and lucretia need to talk, but i think, looking at the results of everything, he kinda sees it as “X had to happen so that Y could.” now, his forgiveness does hinge on saving the world. say they ran to a different plane? i don’t know if davenport would have forgiven her as easily, because then their failure would just look like a halt in their journey. but because they won? i think he would forgive lucretia because, well, they won. they finally got a happy ending and, after looking at all the decisions davenport tried to make, i think it’s safe to say that he understands having to make hard decisions.

barry: barry, like magnus, is complicated, i think. i think he has more notches in the “not forgiving lucretia for a while” category than not. why? similarly to taako, because of lup. except, instead of taako not knowing who lup was until the end, for barry it’s because he knew. when he was a lich, he 1) figured out what lucretia was doing and 2) figured out that lup had been voidfished. he found out that lucretia had made this organization w/ an inherent distrust of magic items and powerful magic users, he found out that lup had been voidfished entirely, and, most of all? lucretia was now actively working against him. i do not subscribe to the idea of lucretia being a villain, but in barry’s eyes, i think she was, just like barry might have been closer to an antagonist in lucretia’s eyes bc he was trying to undo her plan. so, i think barry takes a while to forgive lucretia bc 1) he lost lup, and knew he would forget lup once again once he was “alive” again, 2) lucretia knew he was out there and was now making her organization a place where he could never be, and 3) his friends were now actively working against him bc of the structure of the bureau. i think a huge part of the reason for barry and taako’s reluctance to forgive is so closely hinged on lup (well, for taako, that’s canonical) because i think it’s also important to remember that lup never forgot. sure, she was forgotten, which sucks a whole lot obvi, but she never had to forget her love and her brother. so i think that’s where a sort of rift happens bc taako and barry had to deal with forgetting lup, while lup never forgot them, and though that might be a post in itself if i could think of the right way to word it, i think that also factors into forgiveness a lot. i think, like w/ taako, he and lucretia also have a discussion, except i think that one might be a lot more emotionally charged bc these two were actively working against each other for a time. but i do think that they eventually reach reconciliation and perhaps do actually consider each other friends again.

taako: taako in itself is complicated just bc of how so many people are divided on it, but i think taako’s general rate of forgiveness (and lack thereof for a time) is self explanatory, but i gave my two cents here if you’re interested. tbh, the taako&lucretia situation would be much better told if i actually just wrote a fic on it, bc i feel like my thoughts could be much better expressed in prose than me trying to word my headcanons in a way that people could understand exactly what i have in my head. however, if pressed and given some time to answer and sort out my thoughts in a completely different post, i could probably try to write out all my thoughts on taako&lucretia post-s&s.

i feel like i’ve seen a post about this before, but it gives me great and absolute pleasure to imagine that taako’s elderflower macaron recipe was this coveted secret during the entirety of the stolen century. like, the only other person who knew it was lup and she kept it secret mostly bc she thought it was funny how every single person on the starblaster was just like... desperate to know that macaron recipe. they tried begging, they tried threats, they tried outright bribery, but taako would not be budged. “i’m just saving you from future disappointment,” he said once to a weeping magnus. “it’s not like you could make them like me even if you had the recipe. if you think about it, i’m really being nice.” davenport almost kills him on the spot.

like can you imagine??? lucretia spent a hundred years trying to ferret out that recipe from taako and watching everyone else do everything except kill a man to get that recipe and then here comes dumb taako adventurezone with his magnificent cookies on candlenights and he just starts giving the recipe away for free. lucretia probably couldn’t get her notebook out fast enough. she probably cornered taako before they went down to lucas’s lab to get the actual amounts from him before he could remember that it was supposed to be a secret.

and then, after story and song, one night lucretia wakes up in the dead of night to her stone of far speech ringing and it’s just taako and he screams, “YOU STOLE FROM ME, YOU ABSOLUTE SCOUNDREL” and hangs up.

Kay, new icon is Vriska’s dice cause the gradient was lame, and every Vriska blog halfway to sunday has already had every photo of her face as their icon twice. It also works cause of yknow liking dnd and stuff. one thing I really liked about my last vriska pic one was the negative space made it feel like it popped and I feel like this one has sort of the same thing going for it. Wow, it can be that deep. I’m just rambling cause it’s 3am and yet again I have stayed up this long. I can;t wait til it’s winter again so I can force myself back into a normal sleep schedule. I stayed up all night a couple nights ago, and that gave me one decent night of sleep so I might just try that again tonight. While I’m here, posting a late night thing no one will see or interact with; thank god; I was cleaning and I came across one of those neck warmer things that legit just a tube you pull up your face to keep your nose from freezing off because Canada Winters, I never can use them because I always fog up my glasses, and I just wanted to say that Niqabi gals with glasses are so brave? Honestly before I started vrisrose posting I felt so useless yknow cause in the vriska circles there are a lot of intelligent people who understand canon better and are overall smarter and better spoken so I just felt like everything I had to say was just old hat and not very interesting. But the thing I like about VrisRose is no one else is talking about it as frequently ( I was searching the tag and my blog came up in the recco’s for blogs up top and I was very happy) so I feel like, hey, this is my niche. That one engineer of useless inventions quote: The best way to become top of your field is to specialize:, I jsut love rarepairs so much! I think it’s such a great way to approach character analysis because no one exists in a vaccum so seeing peoples interactions and what people like is so fun!!!! I say, invalidating all my personal issues lollll

CHARACTER ANALYSIS! FUCK TALKING ABOUT INTERACTIONS OR ACTIONS ON THEIR OWN OR THOUGHTS OR HC’S, I STAND BY MY ONE TAAKO ‘vriska did nothing wrong’ QUOTE; Trying to understand what characters morals, and their opinions on certain things by analyzing their opinions and interactions in canon is 500x more productive seeming to me than other things. Like, say taako’s thoughts about vriska, V and Lucretia are p similar actions wise, and he was pissed at her but that was mostly cause of the personal connections, when it doesn’t affect him Taako doesn’t seem to have any moral objections to any of the icky moral stuff; think robot planet or whatevs where they were gonna genocide the place and lup was like no and that was like the only reason he didn’t I’m pretty sure, I’m not too big brained on taako or adventurezone either so don’t take my word; So I think that Taak’s would be chill with Vriska. Another thing? The Lucretia thing was like, giving up which Taako is not ok with and Vriska thigns were about not giving up so I do legit think he would be totally coool with her, even if she were real, unless obvs she hurt one of the seven bird red robe people and their new friends.

Quick detours before I lay out some more hs thoughts; 

Overwatch:

-The Shock, my faves, are doing well and I’m happy for them! I hope they go 7-0, I believe in them! They technically could take first spot but that’s require titan’s to lose every match left and the shock to 7-0, but the thing is I thought that I wanted that but 

-then I watched the titans london match today, and I HATED the thought of titans losing. And losing so hard to other teams too, and I didn’t realize this but I think I do actually kinda like the titans?The thought of them not being a great team makes me sad. I think it’s like I really like them and shock as rivals, yknow, stage one and two, then this upcoming map? If Titans aren’t still Good in this meta it just sorta makes their rivalry not fun. Kismesis vibes is what I’m gonna say cause I’m TRASSSHHHHH pls stop my terrible hands from typing also if I ever saw actual ship stuff I would kill whoever made it. lucretia adventurezone and lilith owlhouse are very similar genres of character to me. in which they're both well-intentioned but kinda Fucked Up middle aged women, who try to look serious and intimidating but are secretly big goofy nerds who are filled with so much guilt and so much love. whom i may not post about as often as much as some other characters from their respective series but rest assured i AM always going a little bit insane over on the inside.

i just woke up so this might not be too legible but :3333 also obviously spoilers for botw for ppl who haven’t played it and don’t wanna be spoiled

(most of it is under the cut though because WOW this got long akdnajfnsjf)

okay so taako is link and lup is zelda. instead of being a princess and knight they’re a king and queen co-ruling faerun. there isn’t really a king rhoam figure in this? like they don’t have a parent/guardian they pops up in the memories, it’s just them ruling the kingdom. when the prophecy came, they knew one of them was the royal with the goddess’ blood in them and the other would be the hero with the darkness sealing weapon. obviously both of them would have the same blood or whatever since they’re twins, but it comes down to who can properly wield the magic. as it turns out, lup is the magic twin and taako is the weapon wielding twin. their enemy, usually ganon, is instead the hunger.

there is still an old civilization of ppl with ancient technology, though i don’t really have a name for them, so i’ll keep calling them sheikah. BUT, there is a modern day group of people dedicating themselves to learning all they can about the sheikah technology in order to prepare for the return of the hunger. they are the institute of past research and exploration, IPRE for short. it is made up by the rest of the seven birds, among a few others.

the champions are davenport, merle, magnus, and barry. lucretia is kinda how she was in TSC canon, just sorta tagging along to write everything down, but that changes once they make the grand relics. speaking of, the light of creation replaces the master sword in this instance. it has the power to fight off the hunger, as well as take the shape of any weapon taako can imagine. that’s how we get the flaming raging poisoning sword of doom and the krebstar. but lup and barry, ever the scientists, are like “is there any way to… break the light into pieces? so more people get super powerful weapons against the apocalypse?” so they do

some of the relics are different, though. the philosopher’s stone doesn’t change things, but it changes itself, keeping that weapon-changing property of the original light. obviously, since it’s a seventh of what it used to be, it isn’t as powerful. but it’s still pretty damn powerful compared to the rest of the weapons in the world. the gaia sash is different too, adding healing on top of the plant magic. the animus bell basically makes undead armies instead of the soul switching magic from canon. basically, the relics’ powers are altered to better fit a combat situation. also they’re the gifts given to taako after the divine beasts (replacing urbosa’s fury/daruk’s protection/etc) so they would need a more combative/practical use. the healing part of the gaia sash is basically this au’s mipha’s grace akfnajfnsj

one relic in particular is interesting, and that’s the phoenix fire gauntlet. with lup’s struggle to unlock her powers, she created the gauntlet as a sort of conductor for magic energy. she’s incredibly proficient in normal magic (esp evocation) but this goddess magic is tricky to unlock, and it’s super frustrating. the other stuff came so easy to her, so why is this hard? unfortunately, the gauntlet didn’t help with that :-(

lucretia and her relic are also interesting in this au. as i mentioned in the ficlet i posted, she intended to use the bulwark staff to protect the champions, and she couldn’t, so she blames herself for everything that happened. obviously, it’s not her fault and i make myself sad thinking about her being sad T_T but as a result of this, plus a bit of good ol paranoia, she uses the bulwark staff to create a big bubble shield around phandalin (this au’s kakariko villiage) the rest of the IPRE live here (basically the BOB, so killian, carey, johann, etc)

i won’t go too into detail for the rest of the story, as it’s fairly similar to botw canon other than that, but some things to note are this: the divine beasts are different, so as to suit the champions better. magnus and merle have a bear and owl, respectively, but idk what’s for barry and davenport (definitely open to suggestions akdnajdns). also, the yiga clan is called the shadow brethren, because i love me a good amnesty reference. it’s leader is kalen, and he’s an actual threat to taako, unlike kogha. i’d imagine the brethren tie to magnus’ divine beast because kalen ties to his storyline. also, the gauntlet basically becomes the bow of light in this au, aka what taako uses to defeat the hunger once and for all

other characters to note are:

kravitz and the raven queen, basically purah and symin in the hateno ancient tech lab. they’re a mother and son duo, with TRQ living through the calamity and kravitz being born afterwards

lucas and maureen are in robbie and jerrin’s place as another mother-son duo in the same position as krav + TRQ; maureen lived through the calamity and lucas was born after

(everyone is basically human in this, or at least has human lifespans, so 100 years is definitely a long time for someone to live through. maureen and TRQ developed magic to prevent them from aging all those years. lucretia was the first volunteer to use this magic, but it kinda failed and instead only slowed down her aging. that’s why she’s her older self when taako wakes up.)

the goddess hylia is instead istus. not much changes there, she’s just the goddess everyone references akdnakdjs

yknow the characters that help link get to the divine beasts in canon? like sidon, riju, etc? they’re replaced by other characters depending on what relic taako is going after, and it correlates to canon. so when he’s going after davenport’s divine beast/the oculus, he meets angus. when going after the owl/gaia sash, he meets hurley and sloane. so on and so forth. though he DEFINITELY meets julia in refuge and she DEFINITELY does NOT have a crush on the hero of legend who piloted the bear divine beast 100 years ago ;)))))

differently from botw canon, taako actually develops a strong relationship with lucretia, who is pretty much impa with a different backstory. as he gets his memories back he realizes he had six incredibly close best friends and now five of them are gone, so he kinda gravitates to her when he’s with her

one more thing to note is that after taako defeats the hunger and lup is free, she combines the relics into the light and uses it to bring the dead champions back because FUCK death separating this family. lup “phantasmal and resplendent” adventurezone would never allow it. if her brother gets brought back from the dead, so do her friends and her husband, thank you very much

and that’s… basically it! i could go more in depth with the taakitz/blupjeans side of things, but this is long enough akfnskfnskfn but if anyone wants to know anything else i’m always open to talking about it :D
