The second episode hit me in the chest with all the feels. A few random thoughts:

-MIDDLE AGED PEGGY???? YESSSSSSSS. MY GAL. I love all forms of Peggy, including BAMF, non-super Peggy. Peggy doesn't need powers to kick ass. <3

-Kurt Russell does a great job with Ego. I love it when the actor's work plays into why I hate a particular character. Ego is the WORST and Kurt Russell as Ego is super hate-able. A++, love me a villain that I can dislike without any need or want for redemption.

-LITTLE PETER AND HOPE! OMG! Bonding over music! Bonding over shared life experiences! Hope understanding Peter because Hope is also a kid who has dealt with terrible shit thanks to powerful parents! I love them as BFFs. Yes, please.

-BUCKY! Peggy and Howard's reactions to Bucky! Bucky's reaction to Howard pulling the Steve card! DLASKJFLAF

-Peggy/Wendy now exists in my mind as a ship, thanks!

I havent like. disliked s5 of Voyager but I have found it to be lacklustre in that I think many episodes are decent but not particularly memorable, with a few gems to be found (Bride of Chaotica!, Dark Frontier, as examples) but Warhead so far has been not only a top favourite of this season but probably a top favourite of this entire series

Two Worlds (Thurs IQIYI) ep 4 of 10 - I don’t say this often but I LOVE this love triangle. The longing gazes = chef's kiss. I like that we are finally getting flashbacks to Tai’s side of the love affaire. This show remains highly engaging. So pleased for MaxNat.  

Deep Night (Thurs iQiyi) ep 5 of 8 - More lesbians! Yay! Meanwhile, when our leads make up they make out! (Yes I’m proud of myself.) I think this might be BLs first rooftop sex scene. We’ve reached new heights, BLabies. (Yes I’m proud of that too.) Anygay, basically a soap opera at this point, I'm not thrilled but I don’t mind.

City of Stars (Fri iQIYI) ep 10 of 12 - It was lovely. Very well done celebrity leaving the closet ep. Nice ensemble work too. Next week is doom! As expected. 

Only Boo! (Sun YouTube) ep 1 of 12 - New main couple for GMMTV in an idol romance about a boy who dances good and a food stand vendor. It’s fine but overly very pulp feeling for something from GMMTV. I'm a little concerned.

1000 Years Old (Thurs iQIYI) ep 8 of 12 - meh.

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Unknown (Taiwan Tues YouTube & Viki) ep 7 of 11 - Qian was, indeed, the one who couldn’t let go. This show is fucking fantastic. It's the best thing I'm watching right now by a mile.

Jazz for Two (Korea Gaga/grey) eps 3-8fin - The bully and the blue-haired drummer side pairing were great. I hated the father. Hated him so much. Our main tsundere seme was a bit too tsundere for me. I was v annoyed by the time he finally softened. I'm amused by all the ways they finagled boys kissin-but-not-kissing in the first half of this show. 2024's "pan around the back of the head" has now become a "dipping of the brolly." We did, however, eventually get an okay kiss.

Honestly?

This was basically what I wanted from Given and didn’t get. So I’m pleased. The music still wasn't great, but you can skip those bits. A solid enemies to lovers BL, where the sins of brothers' past haunts the present. Great optics, decent chemistry, and a tidy script even if tsundere characterization went a bit extreme in some cases. 8/10 RECOMMENDED trigger for suicide

Love is Better the Second Time Around AKA Koi wo Suru nara Nidome ga Joto (Japan Weds Gaga) ep 5 of 6 - We got the past betrayal in detail and it was decently bad. Bitterness understood. Too soon to live together! The BL U-Haul strikes again. I do like their weird curry passive aggressive argument. This is an interesting show. Do I LOVE it? No. But I think I like it.

On a not-really-related note: adoption, including adult adoption, is actually pretty common in Japan (comparatively). It's often tied to business scionism.

My Strawberry Film (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 8fin - It all turned out to be a tragic GL in the end. Not BL = not my problem. No rating. I will forget its existence right about… now. 

Love is like a Cat (Korea Mon Viki) eps 1-2 of 12 - Okay, weirdly kinky with the head scratching. Not much has happened and I’m not wild about what has.

We Are (Weds GMMTV iQIYI) ep 1 of 16 - University ensemble BL featuring PondPhuwin, WinnySatang, AouBoom, MarcPawinPoon - basically the good kind of messy gay friendship group (so more My Engineer and less Only Friends). Looks a bit like the Kiss series but everyone is queer. I'm IN but I need my other computer and I'm traveling as usual. So I'll get caught up next week and probably won't regularly be able to watch this one.

Graduation Countdown (Taiwan YouTube) - It's too much for me to keep up with 2 minute verticals, I don't have that kind of TikTok endurance training.

A Secretly Love (Thai Sat WeTV grey) 10 eps - Completed. Worth watching?

Lady Boy Friends (Thai WeTV grey) 16 eps - reminds me a bit too much of Diary of Tootsies only high school. Not my thing. DNF unless it turns a corner and is truly amazing.

Kiseki Chapter 2 (Sun iQIYI) 6 eps - It’s so boring DNFed at 2.

Close Friend Season 3: Soju Bomb! (Weds iQIYI) 6 - The problem with situational comedy BL is it must be situational, comedic and a BL. This show gets 1 of 3 claims correct. 33% is not a passing grade. Dropped at 3.

Then Next Prince turned out to be a trailer only. Word on the webs is we will be lucky if we get it this year. It’s BL Princess Diaries. Jimmy has a new pairing (that boy from Night Dream) which is... interesting. All in all, this show does not look good. Pretty but not good.

4/11 Gray Shelter AKA Gray Currents (Korea ????) 4 eps - SooHyuk is only just surviving and reunites with YoonDae, an old friend. They end up living together. One of the leads is played by Choco of Choco Milk Shake.

4/12 Living With Him AKA Kare no Iru Seikatsu (Japan Gaga) 10 eps - Kindly Ryota goes off to uni only to find his new roommate is his childhood bestie, Kazuhito. Kazuhito doesn’t have a girlfriend and Ryota tries to help him figure out why, they fall in love along the way. Same director as Old Fashion Cupcake.

4/18 At 25:00, in Alaska AKA 25 Ji, Akasaka de (Japan Gaga) 10 eps - Yuki lands his first starring role in a BL drama alongside superstar Asami (previously his senior at uni). Said superstar suggests they form a sham relationship until filming concludes. As they actually begin to fall in love, the spotlight begins to burn. I think I've seen this before (joke) and also the trailer doesn't inspire confidence.

4/26 My Stand-In (Thai iQIYI) 12 eps - adaptation of Chinese novel "Professional Body Double" by Shui Qiang Cheng. Stars Up (Lovely Writer) and Poom (Bake Me Please) directed by the same team as KP (not a recommendation IMHO - my biggest criticism of that show was the clashing directing styles). This one looks well complicated, lemme try: Joe is a stuntman for famous actor Tong. Joe falls in love with Ming but Ming sees Joe as nothing more than a Tong-replacement. After learning this horrible truth, Joe dies. Joe then wakes up in the body of another man also named Joe. He manages to rebuild the same life as before—with the same people eventually re-meeting Ming. Ming wants Joe back but Joe doesn't understand why. But Ming seems to know what's going on and wants to give him some kind of explanation.

I'm exhausted just trying to describe the plot.

3. A Bow and Arrow for Greg- solid 8/10, also super thoughtful since we know Greg loves mischief and fun, extra point for the Cupid of it all, obviously chosen because it would cause so much chaos, and also potentially many medical bills. Excellent. Favorite brother by a landslide

2. Timepiece for Violet- 9/10. He literally got her the gift of time! Clearly the most expensive gift out of the lot, too. He adores his mum and he clearly cares so much about the women in his life. All the gifts he got for them clearly show he listens to them and their interests, but this one feels extra thoughtful and also useful. Genuinely the sweetest, most respectful male lead by a mile. We stan a Momma's Boy

thoughts on episode 1: LOVED IT SO SO MUCH!!! i love the mc already she’s such a mess and i already love the dynamic between her and the raging vampire lesbian. my favorite from the ones on this list tbh!! need more cancelled youtubers and horny for blood lesbian vampires. also i have a weak spot for anime with adult characters who can drink alcohol and get wasted lol. WILL be watching EAGERLY.

yuri thoughts 🌸: the yuri looks solid!! there was verbal mention of lesbian romantic feelings. and as in most vampire shows, blood drinking is metaphor for sex but it’s made quite explicit in this one which increases the yuri score. the protagonists have already a v interesting dynamic im invested.

thoughts on episode 1: “shiiiika 🦌!!!” okay y’all know i love me some gag humor anime but tbqh im feeling kinda lukewarm on this one. maybe it’s bc i had rly high expectations for this but idk most of the gags did not hit as nice as i hoped. tho some of them were brilliant (also looove the constant breaking of the fourth wall). not looking forward to the siscon character that’s gonna be introduced. will be continuing but might drop if i get bored. however i loved how they Did mention that only male deer have horns sooo… noko transbian 🦌🏳️‍⚧️?

thoughts on episode 1: once again maybe unpopular opinion but im not completely sold on this one. yes it’s fun, yes she’s unhinged, yes they’re all absolutely raging homosexuals BUT idk how to explain it but it feels very much male oriented. idk i think i feel this way bc it’s my personal pet peeve when otaku shows focus mostly on men as the intended audience (for example, when they showed her audience, all the viewers were men which like. they could have shown at least one woman who likes watching her videos yknow?). so anyway. at least it’s incredibly gay? and once again, love characters gettinf drunk lol. but idk i feel like this was made to ride the wave of hololive and get men on twitter to share funny clips idk. i like how they use actual vtuber avatars in certain scenes, and i get the vibe they’ll want to make these girls real vtubers, hence why we dont see what they actually look like but just their vtuber persona. will be checking out more ep but will drop if it gets too meh.

Alright so I didn't love WE: Vengeance. The acting? Pretty solid (the agent was worse than first season Dolls though yikes), the villain, pretty neat, the cinematography, good.

I'm annoyed by the lack of Rachel. I totally understand if the actress didn't want to come back or couldn't, but not even mentioning her bothered me. I get it to a certain extent because this is more meant to be a stand alone thing,but still bummed.

I did like the relationship stuff. The Nedley and Nicole scene really saved it for me (and Nedley with the car). The plot itself was meh.

And possibly unpopular opinion incoming: I'm glad they kept Alice out of the story. At this point, she's five and doesn't know her mother. Her mother is chaos and that's not the place for a child. Plus I can imagine that taking the kid away from Gus and putting her with someone she barely knows would be traumatic.

Overall it was okay. It was better than Slayer a Buffyverse story but not nearly as good as the Orphan Black podcast thingy that continued the story.

Honestly I'm just happy the cast got work and got to work together again.

Do you also think about how they chose to have eddie destroy his entire fucking life right when buck's turned into a romcom. What was that

tbh Eddie has an impeccable ability to do that to himself even when things are going great for him, not just for Buck lmao

but in all fairness i consider that one to be narrative logic... there has been sooo much going on this season and all characters have been going through all sorts of shit and you need the counter balance — in this case Buck and Tommy — cuz if everyone's suffering then who cares really? it suddenly goes from "omg how could this happen?" to "meh get in line" and that's the exact opposite of what you want as a writer

so Buck was allowed to have one positive storyline that didn't stem from immense childhood trauma and the perpetual feeling of being lost in life and his desperatation for attention and love... while Eddie got to fall from real high with a seemingly solid relationship and finally feeling better mentally, before trashing it all to shit due to grief

which not to derail the convo, i know a lot of people had enough of Eddie grieving Shannon and basing his life around that but like... people who grieve are the ones who are the most sick of it, believe me... and yet they'll all tell you that it'll last for life. so be it however repeatative, it's at least realistic (the grief, not the whole doppelgänger thing lmao)

anyway, i feel like they are taking turns of being in the gutter and we'll just have to see how things will go after the current storyline

New OC, New story!!

Very rough idea as of rn and nothing is solid (this WIP idea was conjured just yesterday...tis still a newborn), but essentially it's a loose retelling of The Ballad of Tam Lin set in the Regency Era featuring a cursed fae named either Tamlaine or Tamlyne (i just call him "Tam") that disguises himself as a human man named "Mister Thomas Lynne" in order to participate in London's season and find a wife....and here he meets the FMC, Elspet/h, the daughter of a seamstress who is very demure and timid and mousy in both nature and appearance, after she picks a rose from his patch of forest.....and uh yeah super rough and vague for now but that's the idea haha!

(Also still trying to figure out a vibe....stuck between gothic folk horror and cozy fantasy romance... meh I'll find a way to combine the two😏)

Chaos theory thoughts under the thread

So many thoughts for later - first off, in love with it. I have fallen in love with Camp Cretaceous back when I put on season 1 back in 2020 as a pandemic watch and then kept watching until 2, had a watch party with 3, etc. Chaos Theory was SO solid. It delivered on so many fronts. The Brooklyn flashbacks were so damn good. This show handles certain themes of trauma so well. I know it may have just been a matter of pacing but I'm choosing to interpret that Sammy has the shortest Brooklyn memory compared to the others bc she's not thinking about it - she's focused on tasks so she never has to stop to feel everything weighing her down. Hope we find out about Sammy and her family in the second season. Honestly most of them and their dynamics following the island. There was a lot to take on though in 10 episodes. The Handler. Loved how they definitely amped up the nightmares on this season but she was the first human they've ever brought on that was as scary as the dinos. Also Kenji my sweet boy. Calls his mother EVERY WEEK because that's what you DO. She's his MOM. Brooklyn....like I know it's not the same but also she's really pulling a nearly-Furiosa look at the end and you know what, I'm here for it. I liked Brooklyn fine in Camp Cretaceous, (controversial opinion but she was always sort of meh to me) but I liked her more in Chaos Theory. Something something haunting the narrative!! Something something influencer-turned wannabe investigative journalist who tuned everyone out and it may be to her own detriment. I can not WAIT for the fall out when they find out she's alive.

Eventually I will make my recap rewatch of the last seasons of Camp Cretaceous and my reactions to Chaos Theory bc I'm going to have to rewatch this again.

I was peer-pressured and peer-reviewed into watching Young Royals. But I'm not mad. I'm delighted.

I have a lot to say, and I will, but for starters just general thoughts.

I watch so many USAmerican shows that every time I put on something not that, it takes me a hot second to adjust my optics. It is not bad at all. Just really refreshing.

As for the show, I think the first season was more emotionally satisfying. Because the main story were Wille and Simon and this unexpected relationship they found themselves in.

Second season was more story-tellingly engaging. As the characters were established and they could dive into them more. We got more of all their hopes and dreams and fears and flaws. There was a lot of scheming and pressure and mistakes and small victories and big losses and learning.

I liked how the seconds season showed even clearer that these are pretty much just kids who are put under undue pressure and how that both breaks and makes them. I liked that adults were pretty much just furniture or the cause of pressure throughout the whole show.

The tradition aspect that was woven into the show was really interesting as well and managed to paint an even fuller picture. The stupid initiations, the St. Lucia, Valentines, etc. It was a lovely insight into Sweden. But mostly into the rigidity of uncontested insistence on doing it all the way it has always been done.

The visuals and music were amazing as well.

And I fucking love the casting. Especially Omar and Edvin are a delight to watch, whether together or separate. But there really is no one where I would say, meh.

I also liked the relationships portrayed. It is interesting that there really wasn't much male friendship there. They all seemed to be more associates or teammates or accomplices. On the other hand we got some really solid and interesting female dynamics.

I watched the show in two sittings during work week (otherwise it would have been a very pleasant if full Saturday). But who needs sleep, right? And now I'm here not so patiently awaiting S3.

Oh man okay. I'm just gonna try to list everything I've seen (and please keep in mind that I haven't seen many of these things in forever):

-Hamish MacBeth: actually an amazing show, 100/10, so fucking good. I recommend watching at least the first ep or two with subtitles because the brogues are THICC xD -Formula 51/The 51st State: Second on the list bc I literally just finished rewatching it, it's actually a really great dark comedy action flick. Be warned, there are two scenes of excessive blood but it's otherwise not too violent. -California Solo: I remember this being very good and very sad. But he loves to play a SadBoi, so. -The World is Not Enough: In general, I don't love Bond movies, but this is a pretty fun romp. The plot is somewhat convoluted, but I love Renard???? He's just. Yes. SadBoi anarchist. -Dead Fish: Can I say this is a good movie? No I cannot. But it's so fucking fun. It's so bad. But Bobby is SO good in it. Like, every individual thing in this movie is good, but somehow they put it together and created a disaster??? It does some things that I find super narratively interesting and with some tweaking, it probably could have been an amazing movie. Maybe if Tarantino made it. But like. Danny Devine???? My love. My boy. Not a SadBoi, surprisingly. If you watch the trailer, you'll get an idea of how whatthefuck this movie is. I have seen it many times and, watching the trailer, I was still somehow like what is the plot of this movie.

-The Full Monty: Just a really good movie. Highly recommend. That is next on my rewatch list.

-Stargate Universe: IIRC, I watched about half of one season of this and didn't really love it. He was phenomenal in it, ofc, but otherwise...meh. I would rewatch it but I now watch all the other Stargates and I know this will only disappoint me x] He is a SadBoi scientist, tho.

-The Tournament: Nothing groundbreaking but, from what I remember, a solid movie! Bloody and violent. SadBoi priest. tw: a pet dies, I believe.

-Plunkett and Macleane: I remember this movie being SO fun and now I can't find it anywhere. Very unhappy about that.

-Ravenous: I wanted to add this because I know a lot of people really love it and it seems right up my alley re: dark comedy, but I am too Scared to watch it, so do with that information what you will. It is a horror comedy, I believe.

I have also watched Priest but I found that movie deeply upsetting because it contains quite a bit of CSA and I don't recommend it. Human Trafficking is also deeply upsetting, obviously, and I don't really remember it being great but I am also pretty sure I only made it through half. Annnd I haven't seen Trainspotting but it was award-winning so if that's your cup of tea, I feel confident recommending it (it is absolutely not my cup of tea xD).

Thoughts about the Cure design from Wonderful Pretty Cure?

Overall: alright designs, none of them are instant winners or get me interested in the character based on looks above, but there have been more meh season reveals as well. With the striped ribbons they do look more unified than any of the seasons that have come out while I've been following the franchise so that's a point in their favour at least.

Wonderful:

A really standard pink Cure design both with colours and shapes. I always like a two-tone hair (and would certainly like it less if her hair was just pink) but we've had the pink+blonde combo several times already, how about something new with the hair colour? Doggy ear hairstyle is fun at least and the crown is probably the best design element. And striped socks, or tights I guess, are always nice.

Friendy:

Unique hair colour for a purple Cure is very welcome and her hairstyle is cute. I also like how the four Cures are split into two pairs design-wise, so even if the whole team still doesn't look quite as unified as I'd like, at least the pairs have a more of a theme going on with each other. I also like how they swap brooch ribbons.

But about Friendy, the Sherlock vibe is nice but I'm skeptical if anything will come out of it. Overall I find this is a solid design even if no individual element stands out particularly.

My favourite of these, mostly thanks to the Stocking like hair. And finally it's a white haired Cure! A white palette with blue accents gives her a peaceful look. I'm also very much a cat person so she gets points from that too. And I said that no design makes me that interested in the characters, but I think I'll have to take that back because Nyammy's dazed expression does make me curious, it'd be really funny if she ends up being like lol I don't care about everything.

Probably the weakest one of the bunch for me. Theme colour discourse aside, this is kind of too monochrome for my taste and I really don't like how the pink stripe looks with the teal. Hairstyle isn't my favourite either and I think she'd look nicer if she had a separate skirt or shorts under the hem. But the hem shape is good and I like how it looks with the ribbon.
