I just read @evansboyfriend's post (fantastic. you should read it) and I can't stop thinking about it and the Halloween episode.

Cuz ever since the episode aired and we got to see Buck's loft as it is now, I've been trying to figure out how to put into words what I felt. Like ohmygod do I love what they're doing with Buck's loft.

it has never looked more lived in and I just feel like it's because he no longer feels like he needs to run away from it and keep busy. now he has someone to come home to and someone comes home to him and I just love that and them so much. Tommy is someone he can spend time with and not feel alone in that big one room apartment and it's so nice to see them be domestic. I also love what it could mean for a possible moving out situation and how that would look (cuz I'm fully onboard with Buck moving out. I need it to happen atp).

Like it's never looked like this before and it would make so much sense to get a Buck packing up and looking nostalgic montage now that he has sentimental things lying all over the place. now that it feels like a home and it would mean something for him to leave it behind to move in with Tommy. cuz it's no longer just a place to sleep at but somewhere he had built actual memories with his family and with Tommy in and yeah he's moving in with Tommy and also his memories are coming with him. but it's still meaningful that he's leaving the place where he made them behind.

and then him and Tommy moving his stuff into Tommy's place and beginning to fit their lives and spaces together could finish off the montage. pictures going up on walls and shelves. clothes being put away. items finding their spots next to the things Tommy already has. the whole thing being almost reminiscent of thomasmitchell and the montage of their life story, but this is a very focused look into a specific part of Buck and Tommy's together instead of an entire tapestry of things that have happened to them over the course of many years together. and it all feeling like this is the beginning of a new stage in their lives.

I need it so much. I really want Buck to move in with Tommy.

[I can't very well not do the final post! Sure, 50 would've been a nice number, but it's not like I planned it... Anyway, this is it!] 🌲 Blu Christmas Holiday Movie Asplosion 2022! ⛄ Chapter 51: It's a Wonderful Life 🦌 And here we are again, at the end of the marathon, with the best holiday film of all time (in my opinion). Surprising no one yet again, the top place goes to Frank Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life". Initially not very successful in theaters or reviews (though appreciated by the critics who did recognize, and nominated for multiple Oscars), it was only decades later it became recognized widely as the classic it is, even as one of the best of all time, according to many. I already knew the amazing restoration and 4K looked great, but wow can I really appreciate it on the setup I have now. Aside from some of the hokey angels/heaven effects (and writing) at the beginning, it is truly one of the masterpieces of filmmaking. So that's that! Happy Holidays! Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! 1939. A truly seminal film. An ensamble of technicians hardly equaled. I ripped a bit of the script out of context (weeklyscript.com) because I’m sure of two things, One, is that I don’t know enough to come to any conclusions about the movie. The second being this character is fascinating, and (unfortunately) relevant.

The director John Ford, is a well known populist (liberal) and militarist. He opens the film in a town named Tonto (Spanish — incoherent, unintelligible. A fool). It’s a drama of archetypes clashing in a locked room thriller. A failure of social norms.

The country was still on unsure economic legs. The depression was not really, officially over. The war(s) in Europe, and Asia was looming.

The wonderful Berton Churchill, is Elsworth Henry Gatewood. A perfectly, pompous, self important gas bag, a blowhard. He’s the founder, and president of the Tonto “Miners’ & Cattlemens’ Bank, Capital $50,000 – Assets $250,000”.

His wife is leader of the Tonto Law and Order Brigade. As the story opens, the Brigade is on the heels of the alcoholic, Dr. Josiah Boone (Oscar, best supporting actor, Thomas Mitchell) and the whore Dallas (the film’s star, Claire Trevor). They are literally chasing them onto the next stagecoach out of town.

It’s 1880, in Tonto, on a stopover, the stagecoach arrives with the mining company payroll of $50,000 ($62,585.81 at the time of the film’s release. Over a million, today). As my snippet begins, Gatewood is signing a receipt.

GATEWOOD You know, ever since I opened this bank, I’ve been trying to tell those people to deposit their payrolls here six months in advance. It’s good, sound business.

(Gatewood begins to write a receipt as the Agent takes a package of money from the box and puts it on the counter).

WELLS FARGO AGENT (pleasantly) It’s good business for you, Mr. Gatewood.

GATEWOOD Here’s your receipt. Fifty thousand dollars…. (He smiles affably.) … And remember this – what’s good business for the banks is good for the country.

********** (cut to a few scenes later. The stagecoach is well underway. Clutching close, in his lap, a small leather valise [bag] Gatewood has stolen the payroll. Gutted his own bank, and is now skipping town). **********

GATEWOOD (off) … I’ll report him to Washington! We pay taxes to the government and what do we get? Not even protection from the Army…

(Peacock is now seen in close-up with Doc Boone just in shot, his hand rearranging the scarf so that it practically covers Peacock’s face. While Gatewood continues to hold forth, Doc Boone cleans the dust from Peacock’s face).

(off) … I don’t know what the government’s coming to! Instead of protecting businessmen, it’s poking its nose into business …

(Cut back to the same shot of Dallas and Gatewood).

… Why, they’re talking now about having bank examiners … (he snorts ) … as if we didn’t know how to run our own banks … (off) … I actually had a letter, from some popinjay official, saying they were going to inspect my books! I have a programme, gentlemen, that should be blazoned on every newspaper in the country …

(Gatewood now addresses his remarks to Lucy, as the most worthy of attention.)

… America for Americans! Don’t let the government meddle with business! Reduce taxes! Our national debt is shocking …

(Lucy leans against the side of the coach, as far away from him as possible. Doc Boone is staring lovingly into Peacock’s face).

… over a billion dollars! What the country needs is a businessman for President!

Blu Christmas Holiday Movie Asplosion 2022! ⛄ Chapter 37: Pocketful of Miracles 🦌 Just so much movement in the list this year (understandable, since I didn't actually add any completely new ones this year), but in any case, this is another that has moved up some again. Though worth noting, the next several movies (including this) have regularly changed their order in my head (and will probably continue to) all along as I've done all this. So, take their order with a grain of salt (or a pinch of pepper, I'm not your boss), but for the moment I'll stick with this order. Anyways, this may pale in comparison to Capra's most beloved films, but this, his last film, was actually quite good (and itself a Christmasy-time set remake of his own much earlier "Lady for a Day"). There are a couple not terribly surprising but nonetheless problematic jokes, but overall quite enjoyable. And Bette Davis should definitely get noted for her performance, but far and away the highlight of the film is Peter Falk.
