Inaidhal [Chapter -1]
Shopnobhongo (broken dreams)
Collab with @harinishivaa
Standing in front of the window of Arulmolzhi's room in the Buddha Vihar , looking at Vanathi taking care of her thambi , Kundavai for the first time in her 22 years of life felt regret. Kundavai has grown up in a midst of a busy household in Pazhayarai, she was always followed by battalions of servants and  her sakhis. But loneliness never seems to leave her alone, It always comes crawling back to her at the end of the day when everyone falls asleep, leaving Kundavai all alone to deal with her emotions . Kundavai was always a happy child, she was known for her charming smile and happy demeanor but since that fateful day 5 years back when her Anna accused her of betraying his trust something broke inside of her. Since that day Kundavai has stopped sharing her feelings with anyone, how can she ? Her only friend , her Anna , had abandoned her . She had learned to suppress her emotions and become more logical and practical. She had vowed to herself from that day onwards that she will always let her head rule over her heart, because letting your heart become your leader means ending up like Anna , broken and devastated. But now seeing her Uyir Thozhi and her thambi together , Kundavai feels a certain kind of regret for that decision. She has guarded her heart with care for all these years but now she is feeling left out looking at them, she felt as if she is missing the eternal joy of life. How lucky is her brother to get someone like Vanathi in his life , someone who cares , someone who is always there , someone who fits perfectly with his kind heart. Arulmozhi needs Vanathi by his side to succeed in the battles of life , she was the Sita to his Ram .
" Ilavarasi!" the sudden call broke Kundavai's chain of thoughts , she looked up to find a certain Vaanar Warrior looking at her
Ah him, Finally he is here. Vallavaryan has been a part of Kundavai's thoughts for some months now , Unknowingly Kundavai has ended up giving this veer a special space in her heart. Kundavai gazed lovingly at his face, he looked tired , his beard was unkempt and his ever messy curls were falling on his forehead. But his sleep deprived eyes still have the same charm, the same twinkle in them...
" Is everything all right Devi?" - Vandiyathevan enquired once again
" Yes it is, why wouldn't it be Vallavaryan?"
" Well maybe because of the fact that you are standing here all alone in the balcony, you should go inside and meet your brother, ilavarasi."
Kundavai smiled at Vandiyathevan, and his heart missed a beat...
Ahh that smile , that beautiful smile.
‘How can a smile be so intoxicating?’ Vandiyathevan thought
That smile has captured his heart since the day he first saw her in the hut of Kundandhai jothidar. He had lost his heart that day.
" Come here and see for yourself Vallavaryan."
Vandiyathevan walked towards Kundavai and peered in the window.
Kodambalur Illavarasi was sitting there by Arulmozhi’s side, her face shining with happiness, the sunlight caressing her black tresses  as she gazed lovingly at Ponniyin Selvan's face.
"Aren't they just perfect?"
Vandiyathevan was taken aback by the question, he had heard before from his friends back in Kanchi that Ponniyin Selvan is supposed to marry the Kodambalur Ilavarasi but after seeing him with Poonkuzhali he can't really imagine him with anyone else.
"They do ...but"
" But what Vallavaryan?"- Kundavai scorned at him
" It's not my place to say this Illavarasi but i think that Ponniyin Selvan's heart belongs to someone else and that someone else is definitely not the Kodambalur Ilavarasi."
Kundavai reeled in shock when she heard Vanthiyathevan’s words.
Another woman had her brother’s heart? Who was it? Last she knew… was it the boat girl who had saved him?
“Who is it, Vanarkulathavare?” her voice sounded cold and furious, she did not even sound like herself. But she felt blinded by her worry for Vanathi. What had her brother done?
“Devi, adhellam edharku? (Devi, why all that now?),” Vanthiyathevan asked, triggering Kundavai’s fury.
“Who is it, Vana Veera?”
“It is Poonkuzhali,” he submitted, sighing softly, looking at his dearest’s face, now cold like stone, eyes carved into the fury of an angel.
"That , that boat girl?"
"You are claiming that she has my brother's heart? The Arulmozhi’s heart?"- Kundavai almost screamed out of frustration causing all the vikshus around them to look in their direction  with curiosity.
"Illavarasi!, Calm down,” Vandiyathevan took an unsuccessful of attempt to calm the raging princess down but Kundavai was not listening to him.
"How can this happen again? How can another of my brother fall in love with a girl like that? Is history going to repeat itself again?  Am I going to lose another of my brother to this girl? To This mere boatwoman?" anger clouded in Kundavai's lovely eyes.
"When did this happen Vallavaryan?"- Kundavai enquired
"It, actually..."- Vandiyathevan mumbled
"When?"- Kundavai enquired once again in a low voice
"Devi, i think we should step out before we discuss anything about this. This is sensitive news, You don't want anyone to know about this right? Especially the Kodambalur ilavarasi?"
Vallavaryan was not wrong - Kundavai sighed as she glanced  at her Uyir Thozhi. Still sitting beside Arunmolzhi gazing at him as if he is the only thing in the whole world. Vanathi shouldn't know about this.  This news can shatter the flower maiden's delicate heart, the heart she has  given to Ponniyin Selvare since she was nothing but a mere child.
Vanathi had heard the talk turned into an argument between her Akka and Vanthiyar.
She had known, from the second she had stepped into the Viharam and met Vanthiyar once more, that his friendship was not on her side. Even if she was his beloved’s uyir thozhi, to Vanthiyar, Vanathi seemed like a problem. Her silent, and often bashful nature was mistaken for timidity, resulting in none but Kundavai seeing her for who she is- a woman who can understand another’s heart just by looking at them.
The only person she had had trouble with was the man she was gazing at, the Prince and King of her heart.
He was a closed book to her, a confusing enigma of emotions. He was also the one who had captured her heart, her ‘Ullam Kavar Kalvan’, for he had taken it and had decided not to give it back, like a thief.
Not that she wanted it back.
Her heart felt heavy, for she understood that her Kalvan will not return her feelings, despite what Akka had told her- Vanathi completely trusted Kundavai, but Vanthiyar had been with Ponniyin Selvar more recently than even Akka… why was everything suddenly confusing?
But how could she just leave him like that?
Even if her Lord of wonders did not return her feelings, her duty would always be to him… so she would stay and take care of him, till Akka or Vanthiyar came back.
She drifted to her mindscape, where he shone once more, like that golden skinned Yaanai Paaga she had met and fallen for her, who had given her delighted smiles and sweet eyes, his baritone voice like the sweetest nectar she had ever heard.
His brown eyes had sparkled with so much life, so much gentleness and spoke of a happy nature.. Till he had heard who she was. That had put a frown on his face, and she would do anything to remove that frown, one that her mere title had caused.
The Chozha Prince… who did not want to marry the orphan Princess.
How could she blame him? When even she knew that she was no match for him? It was Kundavai Akka and Sembiyan Patti’s benevolence and the blessing of Parameshvari that made her lucky enough to even be considered his potential bride.
One he had every right to reject, one he seemed to have from his heart.
And yet..
What could she do?
She had been born for him, even if he did not want her.
The sudden restless movement of her Prince brought her back to reality, and she leaned over, making sure he was comfortable, when he whispered a name that stunned her entire heart to a stone still statue.
“Poonkuzhali.”
Vanathi felt her entire body burn with pain at the words he pronounced, her being tear from her heart almost. Her Prince did love the boat girl!
But she could not blame him.
What did Vanathi have? Misfortune.
Poonkuzhali had saved his life bravely… how can he not love her? Why would he want this Princess who had nothing as compared to the brilliant woman who was exquisite, strong and independent?
She saw his Lotus eyes start to flutter, and she scrambled up, suddenly not wanting to be the first thing he saw when he woke up. As his eyes opened, she turned and ran out, wanting to get her Kundavai Akka.
So intent was she, that she did not hear the name he whispered when he saw her retreating form.
“Vanathi?”
So here it is ! The first chapter! It is a bit angsty but don't worry, everything will work out in the end... Please give me your honest opinions!

Confessions
You asked for fluff? You get all the fluff.
----------------------
Arulmozhi watched his elder sister and Vanthiyathevan standing next to each other, and smiled softly. He knew that they had fallen head along in love, and knowing both very well, he absolutely supported their union.
Speaking of… his eyes darted to the small window where he had seen his favourite pair of wide, doe eyes, and a thought flashed in his mind. Before his brother left, he wanted Aditha to know.
“Akka,” he called out softly, smiling when a radiant Kundavai looked at him.
“Thambi?”
“Did you come alone?” he knew he had an amused look on his face, causing Aditha to look at him in surprise.
“What do you think, Arulmozhi?” Kundavai seemed to be challenging him, though her eyes twinkled merrily, knowing expression causing him to smile.
“Where is she, Akka?” he asked, suddenly turning serious. “She came all this way, but has not met me yet.”
“Thambi, you know how she is, don’t you?”
He nodded, and said, “I do, that is why I know she is not far from you. She is like your shadow at all times, so how is she at a distance away from you?”
“Who are you both talking about?” Aditha asked, looking from one sibling of his to the other.
“Vanathi, Anna,” the two replied together, looking at each other, neither noticing Aditha raise his eyebrow. Of course he knew who they were talking about, but for Arulmozhi to use her name…
“Vanathi, thambi?”
Arulmozhi looked at his brother with a perplexed expression, before suddenly realizing what his brother was pointing out, and he smiled.
“Anna, if I cannot call the woman I will marry by her name, who can I?” Arulmozhi responded, calm but paying attention to the excited sparkle in Kundavai’s eyes. His sister’s whole hearted approval radiated from every pore of her being, and she looked like she would rush off to Vanathi in that moment.
“So you decided, thambi?” Kundavai asked, joy seeping through her tone.
“Akka, I decided a long time ago,” he smiled softly. “But I had to wait for the right time, or so I thought. These near death experiences have taught me differently.”
Kundavai nods and smiles.
“Shall I go and call her then?”
“Ilavarasi, I do not think she will be in your rooms,” Vanthiyathevan interrupted, giving Kundavai a knowing look, which she returned the same way.
“Why will she not, nanba?” Arulmozhi was now curious as to what his friend knew that he did not.
“Adhai naan solla koodadhu, Ilavarase, (I should not be the one telling you, Prince),” Vanthiyathevan said, though he looked apologetically. Arulmozhi could not help but smile at the loyalty he displayed.
“So she is busy making medicine with the bikshus?” he asked knowingly. He smiled further at the startled look his sister had on her face, and said, “Akka, did you forget how well I know her? I may have been around her only for a short time, but I know her like I know myself.”
“Thambi, are you saying you are in love?” Aditha sounded surprised, but also happy, despite not anticipating it.
“Very much so, Anna. But I do not want to discuss this further with anyone other than Vanathi. Can any one of you help me get her to talk to me?”
He knew he was looking at his elder sister imploringly, but who better than Vanathi’s uyir thozhi to help him?
“I do have an idea,” Kundavai said, smiling suddenly. “It will require a little subterfuge, but I am sure you are up to it.”
****
“Vanathi, nee paada vendum, kanne, (Vanathi, you have to sing, my darling),” Kundavai needled her friend.
“Akka, I have been singing illaya?” She asked softly. “On your insistence, I’ve been singing Thevarams to Ponniyin Selvar since we came here.”
“Darling, why are you so morose?” asked Kundavai, caressing Vanathi’s cheek.
“I just feel like I am the reason your thambi got into this misfortune, Akka,” she sighed softly. “I am not able to shake that thought.”
“Illai Vanathi, nee ninaipadhu thavaru (No Vanathi, what you are thinking is wrong),” said Kundavai. “Arulmozhi’s horoscope says clearly that he will go through trials but come out of them successfully, and so far, every prediction has turned out right. In fact, what the josier said about you too should turn out correctly.”
“And what prediction is that, Akka?”
Vanathi stiffened but also relaxed when she heard his soothing voice reach her ears. Her love has come to Akka’s chambers?
She slowly turned around, meeting his eyes before lowering them, a blush covering her cheeks.
“The josier stated that Vanathi’s horoscope is an extremely fortunate one. She has very powerful Maangalya bhagyam in it,” Kundavai said. “Furthermore, she will bring prosperity to the one she marries, which Patti says is a sign by just looking at her, her horoscope is not needed to know that.”
“That I can say is very true, Akka,” he nods at Kundavai, who smiles at Vanathi and quickly slips out of the chambers. A shocked Vanathi is about to leave, but Arulmozhi moves to stand in front of her, ensuring that she stays and hears him.
“Ilavarase…”
“Ilavarasi,” he acknowledged her, smiling when she flashed a small pout at him. It had not taken him long to use her given name, even before he left for Eezham. To call her Ilavarasi now would only serve to tease her, and thus, he couldn’t help himself.
Vanathi was about to say something, though she stopped herself and looked down instead.
“I have to ask you something, Ilavarasi. May I?”
Her big doe eyes, now filled with a tinge of hurt, looked at him, and Arulmozhi couldn’t help but feel her emotions as his own.
She nodded, a small frown etched on her face, causing his heart to ache.
“Why did you not come to see me, Ilavarasi? Didn’t Vanathi want to see her Yaanai Pagan?”
Vanathi looked up with wide eyes, wider than he had seen before, understanding blooming on her face.
“Ayya, I didn’t want to disturb you,” she said softly, looking at him still, his heart stuttering at the stars glowing in her eyes.
“Vanathi,” he whispered softly. “How can you disturb me?”
“Ponniyin Selvare, you are the Prince of the Chozha dynasty,” Vanathi whispered. “Who am I..”
She trailed off, taking a deep breath, fortifying herself to add something, but Arulmozhi interrupted her.
“The beloved daughter of Siriya Velar, the adopted and just as beloved daughter Periya Velar, the uyir thozhi of my beloved Kundavai Akka, the star pupil of Patti Sembiyan, and the queen of my heart.”
Vanathi stared at Arulmozhi, whose eyes had softened impossibly, though the love he held seemed to fill every pore of him, his eyes, his smile, his body language even. Arulmozhi was tired of hiding the love Vanathi’s presence inflamed in him. She was like the light that his body needed to move, and till he had met her, he had not understood what his Anna had meant when he had said the same for Nandini.
“S-Swami,” she stuttered out, before blushing, about to correct herself, when he stopped her, a bright smile alighting his face, making him seem like the most handsome man on the planet to Vanathi.
He gently tugged her by her hand closer, before making her sit on the settee on his left, allowing her time to understand the implications. Her grip tightened, and he smiled, knowing she understood what he was trying to say.
“When the turbulence of the sea got too strong, and I could feel the ship rocking against the furious waves,” he rubbed a thumb across her knuckles in reflex, hearing her distressed sound at his words. “It was your face I saw. When I thought I was going to lose my life, I thought of my Kingdom, my parents and my siblings and people, of course, but also of you, Vanathi. I could not help but think I had failed you by not returning, especially after your secret olai through Vanthiyathevan.”
“Swami,” she whispered, a tear falling down her rosy cheek, that he automatically wiped.
“Do not cry, anbe (dearest). I am here now,” he said softly. “I could not forget the stars of your eyes or the soothing breeze of your laughter. Nor could I forget the expressions and stories you weave in your doe eyes. The truth is, I could not even look at another woman when I had you waiting back for me at Pazhayarai. Ennavale (She who is mine), do you not know that the song my heart sings is the same as the one yours does?”
Vanathi stared back at him, luminous eyes glowing like the stars that he often saw in the night sky, every single twinkle the glow of her maan vizhigal (doe eyes). Her ruby red lips widened into a helplessly in love smile, and he knew he sported the same expression.
“I do have an important question for you, Vanathi.”
“Order me, Swami,” she smiled softly, glowing like the moon that tended to sooth him.
“Will you parade with me in Nagai tomorrow through the festival? On my left? As my future wife?” he looked at her seriously, trying to convey his request the way it was meant to be.
Her eyes widened and tears shone in them. The blush on her golden cheeks told him it was happiness, and he waited, in hope.
“As you wish, Swami. Will you take me on your elephant then, Yaanai Paaga?” she laughed at her own words, but the nod that came from him made her eyes widen with joy.
Arulmozhi smiled back with just as much joy, in complete content on having confessed his feelings finally for his beloved, and her joy at them was all he had needed. With Vanathi by his side, supporting him, he knew that even the dangers and tumult waiting for him in Thanjai could be faced easily.
With a smile at her, he relaxed himself, talking to her softly about things unsaid, and coaxing her to talk about the same.

Kolam : Part 1
So this is my first PS fanfic.... A two-shot. Kinda ended up long. I hope people like this. I do not know if this turned out well. I had a lot of fun though.
It was day 1455 of Arulmozhi pretending like she does not exist, she had cried herself to sleep and woken up with a splitting headache, the kingdom was gearing up for festivities and she was entrusted with the duty of decking up the palace. There was way too much noise everywhere to help with her headache and she had to use every ounce of her energy to focus on a work and get it done. So our doe-eyed docile damsel was a volcano about to erupt for the day.
Vanathi was trying to finish an elaborate Kolam at one end of a corridor. She was almost done with the job and at her wit's end. That is when Universe orchestrated the volcanic eruption.
The Chola prince and his newly found confidante, a certain Vana Prince, rushed through the corridor and before our hero could stop himself, he stepped on the Kolam and ruined a part of it. He froze.
Vanathi's eyes snapped to the ruined bit of the Kolam. It was one thing to ignore her during conversations but ignoring her entire existence and work while she was sitting there was a new low.
She stood up sharply and the expression which crossed her face reminded him of sudden tempests in calm seas. He had no idea from where did this inner poet wake up in him but he was kicked out of his mind very promptly by the sight of Vanathi striding towards him. With a short seething 'Ilavarasar...' she shoved the bowl of rice flower into his hands and marched off leaving behind two dumbstruck princes.
And the sound of a pair of anklets approaching just signalled the second onslaught of the storm.
'What has been happening here, Thambi? Where did Vanathi go? Thambi...' she trailed off when her brother turned towards her with a bowl in his hands and a messed up kolam at his feet.
'First you annoy me the entire morning delaying all my plans, then you mess up my uyir thozhi's work!! What has gotten into the both of you?? Have you forgotten your age Thambi?? What is this mischief that you are stirring up? Are you imagining yourself as Maya Kannan just because there will be a play...' a livid Kundhavai thundered.
'What Maya Kanna?' Arulmozhi was really confused now. 'Nothing...' pat came her reply trying to cover up what she had just blurted out. 'Vanathi was working with a headache and you ruined her work!' Kundhavai swiftly changed the topic.
'How would I know Akka? I was running thanks to you and I didn't notice the kolam,' the prince said as guilt started settling in his mind. He had no idea about the head ache part. 'I...well..I am really sorry,' he mumbled. 'TELL THAT TO VANATHI, THAMBI...UGHHH,' Kundhavai whisper-shouted at her brother.
Now begins a new adventure for our dashing Chola scion...apologizing to a certain woman for whom his heart acted very weirdly and he could not point out how and why it was weird to save his life. He walked to the chamber of the royal doctor and asked him to prepare some medicine for curing headache. With great impatience he waited for the doctor to be done with making the balm for the Ilavarasi.
He took the perilous nerve-wracking journey to Vanathi's chambers very uncertain of how she will react. He stood in front of her door and with a sheer lack of better judgement and and his brain ceaselessly rehearsing what to say, he walked in without announcing himself.
The curtains were drawn and the few rays of sunlight that could enter the room lit it dimly. 'Akka I am fine. Just a bit of headache. I will join the preparations right when this headache goes awa...,' the princess had been lying with her face buried into her pillow. She turned towards the door as she was speaking and she FROZE. Her anger had subsided and now she was very aware of the fact that she had stormed off from the very person who was now standing at her door.
Seeing her shocked and flustered face Arulmozhi panicked and launched into and apology while Vanathi started her own stream of apology. In her haste to get out of her bed she almost stumbled over her own dress and her cheeks reddened immediately. 'My apologies Ilavarasar, I will move the curtains...it is too dark,' she said as she drew the curtains open. She winced as her headache flared up due to the light.
'I don't mind the drawn curtains at all, Devi. I know that you have a headache. I have bought some balm for you from the doctor. please apply it. You will feel better.' These words from the prince made her face grow warm. He had thought about her? This was not a dream right? The Arulmozhi Varman had brought medicine for her? She extended her hand for the bowl rather bashfully. 'Thank you, Ilavarasar. I am very sorry for acting like that before. It was very wrong of me to speak to the Prince like that. Forgive me,' Vanathi said as her eyes teared up with guilt.
Her tear filled doe eyes sent a strange new ache to his heart and he said, 'No Ilavarasi it was my fault. I should not have ran into your hardwork. It was such a beautiful design. I will now take your leave and let you recover from the headache. I hope you will forgive me and join the preparations soon. I cannot wait for the festivities to begin.' Arulmozhi departed leaving a tear-choked Vanathi in her room.
After almost two hours of rest after applying the medicine Vanathi woke up. She emerged out of her room feeling much better. She was determined to finish the kolam this time. She made her way to that corridor and the sight that greeted her left her surprised ever so pleasantly. The ruined part of the kolam was fixed, maybe with slightly wobbly lines but fixed. And there lay beside the design Arulmozhi's ring. Maybe he had opened it while fxing the design and then forgotten about it. Vanathi picked up the ring, held it close and smiled to herself. She then happily completed the design and set off to return the ring to it's glorious owner.
Arulmozhi was reunited with Vanthiyathevan and they were overseeing the decoration of the palace courtyard. He raised his hand to direct one of the decorators and noticed that his signet ring was gone!It was his favourite ring. Where could he have left it? He was about to excuse himself and go looking for the ring when a soft voice called out 'Ilavarasar!'
'Aaah how is Maya Kanaa feeling now?' Vanthiyathevan exclaimed. She grinned up at him as he patted her head with affection. Maya Kanna? Again? Since when did the two of them get so close? Why was his heart acting in the weird way again after seeing her smile? What was up with everybody going Maya Kanna around him?
'I am sorry Kamsa Mama. I should not have stormed off from there,' Vanathi apologised to Vanthiyathevan, her voice laden with sincerity. Why Kamsa Mama? This was all too confusing. The dramatic Vana Prince feigned being deeply hurt by Vanathi's behaviour but Immediately dropped his charade when she pouted and said,' Anna please don't do this. I am already really sorry for behaving that way.' She took a quick glance at Arulmozhi and blushed deeply. His heartskipped a beat. But why? ' I am fooling around, little one. How can your Anna ever be angry at you?' Vanthiyathevan laughed and patted Vanathi's cheeks before he was called by someone to check a certain flower arrangement.
Vanathi turned towards him and her blush deepened. She was desperately trying not to make eye contact with him. Arulmozhi had given up hopes for his heart as it was wildly acting weird now. 'Ilavarasar I have something to give you...' she started. She held out her hand and on her palm was his ring. 'You had left it near the kolam,' she added coyly. 'Thank you, Devi. I was about to go looking for it.' Saying this he reached for the ring and his fingertips brushed on her palm. Her hand shook ever so slightly at the contact and she took off the moment he had taken the ring. She suddenly turned, walked up to him and mumbled a very shy 'Thank you for fixing the kolam.' This time she took off for good before could say anything.
Why did he spend the rest of the day twirling the ring in his hands and thinking of two shy doe eyes? Why did his heart start acting all strangely? Why did he find himself smiling when he thought of her blushing face? Why was she called Maya Kanna? All these questions swirled around in his mind. Would he never find the answers out? Or would he find them out very very soon?

Maayaiya Sol (Vanmozhi Two-Shot)
A/N: my very first Collab and the first of many with @thatacademic. Thanks @arachneofthoughts for the idea of Arulmozhi's every confusion disappearing the moment he sees Vanathi's Rakshasa Mamane dance 😂 Happy reading everyone.
"Come Thambi, we were waiting for you," Arulmozhi smiled at his Akka's words and seated himself in the settee next to Vanthiyathevan, acknowledging the latter with a nod and then turned his attention to the person sitting opposite to him, next to Kundavai. Vanathi felt his gaze on her and looked up, smiling wholeheartedly and was happy to see the gesture returned, so much so that she almost missed Kundavai telling her something.
"....will you, Vanathi?"
She stared at Kundavai, bewildered as to what conversation she was being a part of.
"Forgive me Akka, I missed what you were saying," she said with an apologetic smile.
"In which world were you immersed in, Kanne? " Kundavai asked rhetorically while sending a quick glance at her Thambi. " As I was saying, the poojari from the local temple came to see me in the morning. There is going to be a mahapooja for the presiding Krishna deity in the temple and he asked me to be a part of the celebrations. Maybe you can come with me, Vanathi?"
Vanathi nodded her head.
"I would like to make a suggestion, Devi," Vanthiyathevan chimed in. " Since every Samantha king from all over the Chola Kingdom will be present there, how about we present a spectacle for them on behalf of the empire? It will simply be beautiful, not only will everyone be aware of Chola Samrajya's boldness but also its elegance and grandeur."
"That's a wonderful idea! " Kundavai joined in and soon they were talking of the various performances they could organize, so engrossed in their conversation that Arulmozhi wondered whether they were aware of his and Vanathi's presence.
" I know what I want to see. A certain Ilavarasi enacting Lord Krishna," Kundavai said teasingly.
“Akka!” Vanathi blushed, forcing herself to not peer at Arulmozhi’s reaction to his sister’s statement.
"Ah yes, I remember that. That was when I first met you two. And also the first time I realised I have a penchant for acting" Vanthiyathevan said, proud of his own praise. " Kodumbalur Ilavarasi was exceptional as Maya Kanna.”
Vanathi was overwhelmed by the compliments, and she shyly gazed at the ground, not noticing Arulmozhi’s gaze find her in that same second.
Arulmozhi continued looking at all the three faces, though his main vision was a shy Vanathi, his surprise growing, as he watched this conversation like a spectator.
"Maya Kannana?"
He knew his elder sister had caught the curiosity in his tone, if her indulgent smile was any indication.
"Yes my dear Thambi. My Uyir Thozhi was truly beautiful in that role and Patti was extremely proud and happy with her performance, as was the entire audience," Kundavai said
"Yes Ilavarase, you once asked why we call each other Maya Kanna and Rakshasa Mama occasionally, this is the reason," Vanthiyathevan replied. “We ended up dancing together.”
Arulmozhi glanced at Vanathi who was still blushing and smiling at all of them. He has heard of Vanathi's talent in music and dance, courtesy of his Akka mentioning it several times during every and any conversation, but he has never seen her dance in person. And now that he has heard even more about it,causing his curiosity to reach its peak. Added to it, the fact that even Vanthiyathevan has seen and danced along with her? He hated to admit it, but he suddenly felt a flash of envy inside him.
How did Vanthiyathevan get to dance with Vanathi when he had never even seen her perform?
“Maya Kannane, did you also learn the song for it?” Vanthiyathevan now, completely enthused about his idea.
“She helped write it, Vanthiyare,” Kundavai said proudly, patting a blushing Vanathi’s head affectionately. Arulmozhi raised an eyebrow, now intrigued beyond comprehension. He had always known that Vanathi was very talented, but he had not expected her to have helped write a song completely.
“Akka, you and Patti were the main writers. I just helped a little,” Vanathi said bashfully, meaning every word that came out of her.
“It is your generous spirit that makes you say so, Kanne,” Kundavai shone in the light of pride that she had in Vanathi, reflecting like lamps in her orbs, stunning Vanthiyathevan again.
“Akka, how can I dance like that?” Vanathi shied, continuing. “The original dance was for celebrating the birth of Bhagavan Krishna at Pazhayarai.”
“It was. But Vanthiyar is right. We do need to express the elegance of Chozha Naadu, and you are the crown jewel, Kanne,” Kundavai said gently.
“But Akka…”
Arulmozhi could see the reluctance on Vanath’s face to perform, and though he did not know why she did not want to perform, he wanted to make an attempt to get her to perform. If she still refuses, he will let the matter lie.
“I think that would be great,” stated Arulmozhi calmly, though he could feel his heart beat fast at the thought of seeing her dance.
Vanathi looked at Arulmozhi, her eyes widening. Her main reason for not wanting to dance was to ensure Ponniyin Selvan knew she was not trying to catch his attention with her skills, but only with her heart.
“Akka has praised your skills heavily, Devi,” Arulmozhi continued, pouring his earnestness into words. “So much so that my curiosity has been aroused. Please consider performing.”
Vanathi blushed, bending her head down before looking at Arulmozhi again, nodding shyly.
“I will dance. I only request Vanthiyar to also join me.”
*****
Vanathi stood in front of the mirror, adjusting her clothes for the thousandth time. She knew she looked beautiful in her Maya Kannan avatar, with the blue and pink robes, the bejewelled belt and necklace and other ornaments and above all the big Jasmine garland and the peacock feather tucked in the pink turban on her head. But what will Ponniyin Selvan think? Will he love her look? Or will he also mock her like Kundavai's other companions who take pleasure in teasing her? But then the rational part of her brain awakened. Why am I thinking so much? I am just going to pretend he is not there, that this is Janmashtami celebrations again with Kundavai Akka and Patti watching me and Vanthiyathevan dancing with me as Kamsa Mama. Yes. Otherwise I'll faint for sure. Oh Krishna! Watch over me.
As Vanathi was immersed in her thoughts and prayers, Kundavai came in. " Kanne, why are you already in your outfit?" Kundavai asked confused.
" Akka, I was just trying it out" Vanathi turned around to face her Uyir Thozi
"Don't worry Vanathi. I'm sure he won't be able to take his eyes off you" Kundavai said teasingly and both of them giggled. " Now change quickly Kanne, there are some young girls who have arrived from the neighborhood to join your performance. Let us go and see them"
*********
Arulmozhi walked along the corridor, to any other onlooker it might seem the Ilavarase was supervising the ongoing activities for the Pooja. But his eyes were actually searching for the Kodumbalur Kula Vilakk. Where has she gone? A little far off he saw Vanthiyathevan standing in the balcony, leaning on the railing and looking down, a dreamy look in his face.
"Vanthiyar" Arulmozhi called "What are you looking at?" Vanthiyathevan simply brought his index finger to his lips as an indicator to not make a sound and pointed down.
Below them, Kundavai and Vanathi were playing with the little girls who have come to join her performance. Kundavai was seated with some girls around her and one sitting on her lap watching Vanathi  showing some dance mudras to another group of girls who were trying to imitate her. Arulmozhi smiled at the sight. It was truly heartwarming to see his Akka and her Sakhi so happy.
"Beautiful" he heard himself remark
"She truly is" Vanthiyathevan said. Arulmozhi glanced at him and followed his line of vision. It was clear Vanthiyathevan eyes directly fell upon only Kundavai who was laughing with the girls and looking proudly at Vanathi. Arulmozhi cleared his throat and that seemed to make Vanthiyathevan snap out of his dream world. " Ummm..I meant they are looking very beautiful Ilavarase, and I'm sure the programme is going to be a success as well. I was just wondering who my Rakshasa minions would be. The last time, the minions I got were adamant in turning my head the other way whenever I tried to look at Iliya Piratti" he said with a huff of annoyance.
Arulmozhi smiled and resumed looking at the gathering below, particularly the dancing diva in the centre of the group. It is said that Krishna was known as manmohan (winner of hearts) .And it seems this girl has already won his heart before donning the Krishna costume.
*************
The event Arulmozhi was waiting for was nearing, and he found himself excited for the day, wanting to see Vanathi sing and dance. He had also not seen her much, which did frustrate him a little, as he had gotten used to seeing her with Kundavai often.
He did understand that she had chosen to also take over the organization of everything, including the other dramas that will be presented.
But he wanted, no, needed to see her.
As he wandered around the palace, wondering how he would accomplish meeting her, he heard the faint sound of her sweet voice.
Without any compunctions, he took off in that direction, needing to see Vanathi at least once. He came upon the open corridor, and spotted the clothes before he saw her.
Vanathi stood in light blue, her eyes quickly moving across all the garments in front of her, the seamstress smiling patiently.
“Ammai, do you have a more mustard colour for the children? I think the bright yellow will clash with the open space, as we are not dancing under trees for it to contrast,” Vanathi said, pursuing the garments. She held up a colour with a smile. “Like this one, Ammai.”
“I do, Ilavarasi. Should I use that for the children then?”
“Please do. They are meant to bring the Ilaya Piratti at the start of the program as a sign of the one who has organized everything,” Vanathi said smiling.
“Yes Devi. Are you still wearing the same robes you did for the Krishna Jayanthi festival?”
“I am Ammai. Akka has a couple additions she wanted to try out, but all of that is within my own sarees,” smiled Vanathi. “I am trying to reduce your work, not add to it.”
Arulmozhi had to smile at this interaction, Vanathi’s natural kindness was one of the things that made him feel she was right for him.
“We are blessed to work with you and Ilaya Piratti, Ilavarasi,” said the seamstress, her eyes and tone so genuine that Arulmozhi was curious as to what else Vanathi had done.
“It is all the blessing of Periya Piratti, Ammai,” Vanathi demurred. “If those are chosen, and we have fixed the Shakuntala drama clothes, we are done, Ammai. Will you be there for it?”
“Of course, Ilavarasi. None would miss your dancing and singing, it is a double treat for us,” said the seamstress, making Arulmozhi think that it was for him too.
“Ammai, it is all Ilaya Piratti’s teachings.”
“And your acceptance of it, Devi. You and the Ilaya Piratti are like the body and shadow, always together, and always one in everything you do.”
Vanathi smiled and blushed, helping the seamstress with her things, despite the latter protesting. Arulmozhi’s heart both thudded and melted at the natural compassion that flowed in her, his love shining like the Sun, the dynasty he descended from.
The next morning
The mandap in the temple was decorated as an open stage for the festivities. As Arulmozhi reached, the audiences were filling in, seating themselves in front of the stage. There were  seats placed on a podium behind them reserved for the royal family. He greeted his Patti who was already seated and sat beside her. He looked around, expecting to see Kundavai, Vanthiyathevan or even Vanathi..no his Maya Kannan. But to say he was disappointed to see noone around was an understatement.
"Kanne, are you looking for someone?" He heard his paatti ask him.
" Yes paatti. I am looking for Akka and Vanthiyar" he said, still wondering where they have gone.
"Only Akka and Vanthiyar?" He looked at his Paatti at her retort, smiling sheepishly.
Just then the little girls who are performing in the spectacle started arriving on stage, receiving the applause of the audience. He saw the girls get into their arrangement but still failed to see the main dancer. Where is she? Has something happened to her? His curiosity was now replaced with concern. The next minute he heard a flute playing and saw the audience gasping and pointing upwards. He also looked up and widened his eyes at the sight as the song performance started.

Uyir Thozhi
The little Ilaya Pirati, much too mature for her age, was always presumed to be lonely.
As a child, children her age, were ignorant of the idea of politics that Kundavai spoke of. To them politics was ascending the throne, swearing in as the king, fighting wars and claiming other kingdoms. After all, they were children, their minds a clean canvas.
Kundavai's family had tried everything to keep her away from kingdom politics, so that she wouldn't be robbed of her childhood. But Kundavai had realised, at a very tender age that ruling a kingdom was more than just weilding swords and passing orders.
She'd see her father's face droop everytime he'd return from Kadambur. At times, till late at night, she'd here her uncles and her father arguing. Both her brothers, though very capable of protecting themselves would be given excess security, especially after their timely visit to Kadambur. Sembiyan Devi, the one who was known to utter only and only the truth, would steer away to tales as soon as Kundavai would ask her what the ministers and her father had been discussing about. She had heard her mother shushing her maids on several occasions when they came forward to deliver secrets. "Not here" she'd say, "even the walls have ears. And that too with Kundavai here..."
Kundavai had realised at a very tender age, that ruling a kingdom was a tedious task.
"There she goes again, with her exaggerated tales. Ruling must be hard to you, that is why you speak ill of it. But I? I was born to rule!" The other kids would mock her. The little Ilaya Pirati, much too mature for her age, was always presumed to be lonely. But she wasn't.
After the rest of the children had wandered away, the Kodambalur Ilavarasi would slowly perch upto Kundavai. She'd listen to her speak about her duties towards her kingdom, her views on war tactics and dharma.
Vaanathi always looked upto Kundavai, and Kundavai would take care of her as an elder sister. Kundavai had taught her to stand upto people, to speak out her opinion and to be courageous, and Vaanathi had taught her to stay true to her conscience, to let loose and to be a child at heart. Rather, one would return to being a child at heart if they were around Vaanathi.
And Kundavai was grateful. Grateful, to have a friend who remained by her side throughout. Vaanathi was one of the very few whom she wholly trusted. Only her shoulders had felt the wetness of Kundavai's tears, only her eyes had seen Kundavai flusterring, only her tongue had teased Kundavai about the Vaanar clan warrior, only her hold had calmed Kundavai. Vaanathi was a blessing to Kundavai, before she was to Arulmozhi.
The Ilaya Pirati, much too mature for her age, now had a companion, who had lightened the burden off her shoulders, had kept her sane and had reminded her to stay true to her younger self. And to heal her younger self. To heal herself.

Flood Of Emotions
"My Akka is disappointed in you."
Vanathi was sitting at the thick railing of the gazebo in anthapuram, after everyone departed for the sleep. The full moon danced along with the stars with all his glory, its cool rays bathing over her beautiful skin draped in a dark yellow dress. All jewellery discarded, Vanathi had left a few necessary jewellery on hr body while her Alta painted palm played with the water.
"Why?"
"For your ridiculous vow." He replies with a frown.
"How is it ridiculous? I don't want the throne of Chola Samrajyam, I never had." She said matter-of-factly.
"But she wishes to see you beside me as Queen." Vanathi lowered her head at this sentence. "I won't become Queen of someone who doesn't want me to be their Queen. And even if such a situation occurs, I won't be their Queen." She says and adds, "Also, as I told Akka in your presence, it doesn't matter to you what I do or How I am."
Her cold words felt like ice at his skin. "It does matter Vanathi! You are just being unfair." He says. "How?" She asked.
"Who said I don't care? You are my Akka's uyir Thozhi."
"Yes!" Vanathi suddenly hopped off the railing. "I am just your sister's closest friend. How does it matter to you then? I am just her friend." She said.
Stupefied at the sudden movement of Vanathi, he recollected himself. "Did you not call me Yaanai Paagan?" He asked and Vanathi immediately turned red with embarrassment.
"I-- I apologize for that Ilavarasae, I didn't knew you were the Prince of this glorious dynasty. Please forgive my atrocity." Vanathi said.
"No no, that's not the problem. But why did you changed after that?"
"Don't you, don't you hate me?"
Confused, he said, "No, why would I? I have no reason to hate you."
"What? Then why did you acted as if I never existed at Nandhi Mandapam?" Vanathi said and immediately looked down realising she sort of accused him. "I am sorry."
"It's okay. Its your right to ask questions." He said and added. "Also, I was just teasing you."
"Then tell me." Her demanding voice took him by surprise. "Why did you do that? And then out of nowhere you cameand swooped me like a hero when you were still weak! Why?" She said.
"Di you want me to let you die?"
"Illai. I mean why did you save me when you were still weak? Do you want to die on my accord?" Her heart skipped a beat.
Wondering where she had been hiding this side of hers, he replied, "I wouldn't have died Vanathi, I knew I will survive. I was scared you would die. What would happens if the jewelled lamp of Kodumbalur Clan extinguishes?" He said softly and this sentence made her tear up.
"That would have been better. I was born with the curse of misfortune, I think. Please, I beseech you, do not think I wish to gain sympathy by saying thus, I am merely stating truth." Vanathi said.
"Why do you say so Vanathi?" Arulmozhi was surprised. "You are the very fortune of Chola Kula along with my Akka. How can you be a curse of misfortune?" He asked. Vanathi looked up and his breath stuck up in her throat upon seeing her eyes rimmed with tears.
"My father died soon after I was born, went to heaven upon dying a noble death in Eezham. My mother couldn't handle the grief and left me all alone. I dropped the Valakku Pattu when you were leaving, and you got caught in a deadly disease. How can I not be Ayya?" She said in a tearful tone.
"I survived because the light you had lit didn't extinguish when you dropped the plate. Ups and Downs are a part of life, Vanathi." He said. "As for your parents, your father did attain veera gathi, though that isn't much of a comfort." He said and Vanathi looked away, speechless. "Why are you here Ayya?" She asked trying to change the topic.
"To talk about your vow."
"What about that?"
"It had made Akka very disappointed, and I can't bear to see her thus." He said.
"Akka can find more suitable Princesses for you." Every word pierced like needles in the heart of Vanathi as she said those words, unknown that other side had same effect too. "And I am very much not going to break my vow, even if you marry me. Also, I can't bear anymore accusations on my back and especially at my face." Her words turned bitter remembering Samudhrakumari.
"What accusations" His eyes narrowed.
"That I want to sit on the throne of this glorious dynasty and be your Pattamagishi."
"And you don't?" He purposely asked.
"No, I don't even love you." Her words felt like someone just ripped his chest apart with sharpest of swords. "Is that so?" His voice came out quite, and hurt. "Then you won't mind?" He asked.
"What I won't mind?" She asked.
"If I marry someone other than you?"
Her heart almost stopped beating at the mention of his marriage to someone else. Those words felt like hot molten lead in ears. Unknown to her, he also felt same when she uttered those words. Her eyes burned as she turned away from him, her tears silently slipping out. Unknowingly sobbing hardly in she said, "Of course! Why should I?"
"You have, after all, been talking about me and Samudhrakumari as often as you can." He said trying to comfort her, but those words worked like kerosene on fire. She whirled around, her eyes red with anger and sadness and tears. "why won't I? After all, she managed to win your heart!" Her voice rose.
And he was unable to stop himself from smiling.
"But she did not! It is true that I did and still possibly do have affections for her, but affections do not mean winning my heart." He said softly.
"But I do not own the affections I meant you had for Samudhrakumari. You too think I want the throne." Vanathi said.
"Vanathi.. I was wrong, I wasn't sure about it. But the things I was told..." Arulmozhi looked away.
"You ever asked me whom I loved? I don't love you, I love my Yaanai Paaga, who came on a huge elephant just to save little chicks." Vanathi wept softly and Arulmozhi felt his heart crumble at her tears.
"The Yaanai Paagan and I are not different, Vanathi.." Arulmozhi said and acting upon his instincts, moved closer to her.
"No," Vanathi said. "My Yaanai Paaga felt the same, I don't think the Prince does." said she.
"Your Yaanai Paagan still feels the same.." He said and wiped her flowing tears. "But the Prince can be idiot sometimes." Vanathi laughed softly at that. "If you feel same then why you never confronted me Ilavarasae?"
He frowned. "When I was supposed to Vanathi? When I heard you were the Kodumbalur Ilavarasi, I couldn't but hear the words everyone was speaking. Akka also adored you even back then, and praised you all the time, even when you weren't there. And when I tried to find you, you were never there. Akka just said you had a timid nature." He said. "Why didn't you came to meet me, when everyone else wanted to?"
"I was afraid..."
"Why?"
"I-- I called you Yaanai Paaga."
"I was glad you did call me so. I knew then you had no idea who I was. And for someone who has always been known as Prince, it was refreshing." He smiled fondly, remembering it.
"Then, you don't dislike me?"
"I never disliked you." A charming smile appeared on his face, and Vanathi burst into tears. He pulled her in his embrace, and she cried hard on his shoulder.
"I love you so much Ilavarsae!! I don't care what my Periyappa thinks. He may want to see me on the throne of Thanjai beside you but all I care about is a elephant right by your side." Vanathi cried, sobbing hardly in end.
Her pure confession brings him to tears and he tightens his hold. "I hav been in love with you since we met, I think. But I never allowed myself to feel."
"I felt like dying when I heard about your drowning, after seeing you alive and safe I cried out of joy, knowing that you won't be hearing it."
"The world would have lost light if something happened to you." He inhaled the sweet scent of her hair.
"And I would have lost my life to be with you by jumping in River Ponni, if something had happened to you." She replied.
"Vanathi..." He shivered at that, his tears finally escaping. "Don't say that." She wipes his tears and says, "Don't cry. No one can harm you until I am standing in Yama's way. He should take me before you."
"Don't say that Ilavarasi." He clamped his palm over her lips.
"Ayya, you must marry someone before me. Or else my vow will be broken." She said.
"I won't." He replied stubbornly.
"I can't be your Pattamagishi Yaanai Paaga."
"You can't be my Pattathu Arasi but you can still be the head of my family. And I will not give that position or that of standing on my left to anyone else." He declared. "I would forsake the throne rather than you."
"How can you say that Ayya? After your illustrious Thamaiyan, it's you who should take the responsibility." Vanathi gasped.
"Vanathi, Anna is the Crown Prince. I would rather be free from the burden of the throne. And I have no necessity to take more than one wife." His words made Vanathi's heart flutter.
"You don't know how happy I feel now. I can finally have you for myself, and can sit beside you on elephant." She smiled leaning her head on his chest.
"So you just want the Elephant ride, is that it?" He asked teasingly making her look at him innocently. "Of course, what else?" Laughing loudly at her innocent reply, he embraced her again and the two lovers bathed themselves under the Full moon.

A Matter of Chance -12
Kundhavai's POV before she wrote the letter to Aditha
Kundhavai thought back to her last meeting with her brother. It had been almost 3 years ago and did not end on a good note. His unhappiness seemed to increase every passing year.
Her confidence in her inability to be wrong (atleast with regard to her tempestuous older brother) faded with every glimpse of him.
She had always prided herself upon her superior intellect and excellent judgement of characters. Her beloved great aunt Sembiyan madevi was her Guru afterall!
She had great ideas for her empire- that would never truly be hers. Her brothers would be her soldiers, carrying forth her great plans!
Sembiyan madevi too noticed her unhappiness every time she met with Aditha or read a letter from him.
One day, she could no could no longer ignore her curiosity and asked the elderly lady why she immediately threw Nandini out.
Her response made kundhavai’s blood run cold.
Apparently the queen mother had every reason to believe that Nandini may be siblings to the royal children.
But with each passing year, the probability seemed more absurd and unlikely.
Her greataunt had said that Kundhavai’s father wed a commoner in Lanka several years ago. When the war started, he left her to fight for the Cholas and agreed to succeed his uncle. Upon anointment as crown prince, he married Chieftain malayaman’s daughter and they had a son within a year. The chief minister, her father’s friend, decided to lie about Mandakini’s demise to ensure he only focused the throne.
Mandakini devi, the mute yet genteel daughter of a lighthouse keeper, sought Sembiyan Madevi ‘s support during her pregnancy – two whole years after her husband abandoned her.
Sundara chola had realised that his childhood friend had lied about his beloved’s death and rued the misery she faced. He still greatly esteemed her and ensured that she lived a comfortable life in Lanka.
Kundavai was horrified thinking her childhood nemesis could be her sister, but the next second she realised “ Nandini is a few months younger than Aditha!”
Once, she proudly justified parting them as a duty to her nation. Afterall, she would never want her brothers to be distracted from their duty to the empire!
She would never accuse Aditha- a warrior who time and again endangers himself for their country- of neglecting his responsibilities.
But his resentment had distanced himself from family and the capital, where he was expected to remain as heir to the throne.
She could see the hollowness inside her brother, eating away his passionate nature as he continued to soldier on for their sake.
A happier Aditha would have lit up Thanjavur with his chivalry and candour! He’d have spent more time at the capital.
He’d have kept the meddling chieftains at bay.
Their father’s health would improve and dearest Arunmozhi’s future would be secured.
Her elder brother was the great warrior who first entered the battlefield aged 12. He took pride in sharing the same fate as his soldiers and winning territory for their empire.
His lack of visits to the capital pained their parents greatly, and benefitted scheming chieftains.
Marrying one of their daughters to her brother’s would be advantageous, but not all noblewomen were as righteous and kind as her dear Vanathi.
Young Vanathi would make a superior consort, but was too naïve yet. She cannot expose her thozhi to the vultures at court right now.
Kundhavai mused about the fate of royal men.
Marrying one noble clan’s daughter will never suffice, all other clans will seek the same favor.
Even marrying a noble lady from each clan will not suffice – there’ll be more infighting as to which consort will be chief empress.
Kundhavai mused. Each chieftain’s clan has already given many brides and grooms for Chola emperors, princes and princesses over several generations.
They’re entwined with the Cholas yet their support is not absolute.
Each chieftain has a daughter, sister and niece married to each Chola Prince.
Fresh blood no longer seemed like a bad idea.
More grave was the plotting by members of the royal family itself.
Her father, restricted in movement and spirit, was beginning to prefer cousin Madhurantakan.
"This would not do" she decided.
A righteous bride, who was loyal only to the Cholas, who was endowed with charm and intelligence to maneuver court life was what Kundhavai wanted now…
…..Was Nandini truly so great of a threat? Compared to the snakes that slithered within?
No point of complaining now, she sighed, she was the one who chased her away.

THE UNION.(part 1)
Everybody in the Chola kingdom was celebrating their beloved prince wedding. Many people travelled to Thanjai to see their price wedding with the Kodumbaloor princess.Everyone was aware of the fact that the Kodumbaloor princess was destined to be with Ponniyin selvan. The palace was decorated like a bride.
Few days earlier…
The Chakravarthy and his queen Vanavan Madevi were discussing about their late elder son desire to bring them to the Golden Palace in Kanchi. They came to a conclusion to wed their youngest son and go to Kanchi. Kundavai was excited and happy as her dear brother would marry her uyir thozhi. Soon the elders discussed the marriage with Periya velar and started to arrange the wedding. Kundavai was eager to send this news to her brother and started going to his chamber. As she entered she saw him near the window. “ Thambi, what are you thinking?’’ As arulmozhi heard his akka, he replied,” Nothing, akka. Do you want to say something?” “Yes, Appa and Amma have discussed your marriage with vanathi.They-” “What? Are you sure?” he replied as he couldn't believe. “Yes, your wedding is after two weeks. And we have already started the arrangements.” “Do Vanathi know this?” He asked Kundavai. “ Velar mama have already told her about the wedding and she agreed.” Kundavai replied as she saw her brother was worried.”Arulmozhi, what happened to you? Why are you looking worried?”
“Akka, I want to talk to vanathi once!”

I was listening to Nachiyar Thirumozhi and it got me thinking...the love of Andal is fine and we feel it in every word, but who is the Thozhi and why Andal have to recapture her after every stanza? Kanaa kanden thozhi naan
I mean there's a lot of comedic potential there if you imagine the Thozhi trying to get on with her day and Andal just yanking her back after every stanza to delve deeper and deeper into her covert dream-assisted wedding planning
At which point does the Thozhi go like yeah yeah Ranganatha is a cutie, we get it, more power to you but I still have a human life to live and many human chores to complete

The primary vision of the school is to instill hands-on understanding of the natural world and the processes that sustain it, which relates to the name of school “Ela”- meaning “Earth” in Sanskrit.
Cultivating the Land: From Soil to Table
During the interview, the school's horticulture consultant cum accountant enlightened about Elagreen's agricultural initiatives. The school committee decided that a student should dedicate at least an hour for gardening and cultivation, and has allocated a piece of land within the school premises. The soil is carefully plowed and made fertile organically before the cultivation begins. The students are guided by farmers who share their insights about natural ways of cultivation and harvesting.
Harvesting Knowledge: Lessons in Sustainability
A wide variety of vegetables are cultivated under the guidance of experts.Students have harvested brinjal, bitter gourd, green chillies, broad beans and so on. They have also raised Ragi- a millet crop. While the students enjoy the process, they learn about the importance of preserving nature and leading a sustainable life.As a further step, delicious dishes are prepared in the school’s kitchen with the freshly harvested vegetables from the farm.
This holistic approach not only connects students to the food they eat but also imparts invaluable lessons about the importance of agriculture in sustaining communities and fostering self-sufficiency.
Structured Education: Elagreen's Course Offerings
The Primary Year Programme (grades 1 through 5), the Middle Year Programme (grades 6 through 10), and the Diploma Programme (grades 11 and 12) are the three separate programmes that make up Elagreen's educational paradigm. Every level is thoughtfully created to meet students' developmental needs while including environmental stewardship and sustainability concepts.
Closing Thoughts and Emotions for a Sustainable Future
Elagreen School fosters a generation of learners who are not only academically proficient but also have a strong connection to the natural world by means of this unique fusion of academics and real-world experience. Institutions like Elagreen are guiding lights in an increasingly complex and environmentally delicate future.

Inaidhal[Chapter -3]
Prahelika (puzzle)
Collab with @harinishivaa
Arulmozhi Varman had never been this confused in his whole life, it had been ten days since he had seen death face to face, ten days since he had jumped into the ocean to save his Uyir thozha from getting drowned . He had spent those ten days in a semi-conscious state , drifting between nightmares and realities. He clearly remembers the touch of a soft hand on his temple, the whisper of a few words and a lullaby in his ears in between those horrible dreams trying to lessen his pain . Who was that? Was it the Samudra Kumari or was it his akka's dear Thozhi , Kodumbalur ilavarasi?
If it was the latter, what was she doing here in the vihara? Arulmozhii let out a frustrated groan as he tried to remember those words that the mystery girl was whispering in his ears , something along the lines of how she had dedicated her life to him , and how she had belonged to him since the beginning of time.
If that's the Kodambur ilavarasi…. how is he going to break the petal-like heart of that young maiden? How can he tell her that she doesn't belong to him and probably never will?
‘Akka, why did you have to give her high hopes?’ he despaired.
"Arul!"
Arulmozhi looked up to find his dear akka standing in front of the door, her wild hair falling over her temple , her eyes glistening with tears. Arunmolzhi didn't expect to see his sister, the picture of perfection like this. He thought she would come running to him smiling widely, her eyes overflowing with happiness, and tell him how a certain Vanar warrior had been successful in stealing her heart. But there she was , looking like a lost woman, which hurt his heart.
“Akka?”
Something bad had definitely happened. His sister would never look like this, especially after he had just woken up. He knew how much she loved him.
“Kanne, you are up!” she ran to him, cupping his cheeks and kissing his forehead.
"Oh how worried I was, Arul! I felt like I had lost the post precious person, I am so happy that you are fine . Don't ever dare to leave your dear sister like this!"
"I won't , I promise, akka" Arulmozhi smiled as he wiped away his akka's tears."How can I ever leave you, akka? Without your guidance I couldn't do anything in life. I will never leave you, I promise! Now don't cry , I can't bear to see tears in my dear sister's eyes . They don't suit you, akka.”
“Tears are going to be normal for me, thambi,” she whispered, shaking her head.
“What do you mean, Akka?”
“Adhellam thevai illai, kanna, (all that is not necessary, dear one)” she said, sitting next to him. “You tell me, how are you feeling?”
"Much better, but tell me something. Is your Uyir Thozhi here?"
A smile formed on Kundavai's lips by this question, all the sadness and doubts suddenly vanishing from her face. She knew it! Her thambi would never go against her wishes. Vandiyathevan was wrong, she hoped. He doesn't care about that boat girl, romantically, did he? She knew her younger brother and knew he cared for every human being dearly. But how could he care for Samudra Kumari like that, when it is Vanathi who resides in his heart?
" She is , but why do you care, thambi?"
"I d-don’t!" Arunmolzhi answered, covering his face with his hands, knowing he did not sound convincing. He could feel his head threatening to burst.
"I am worried that her being here will only make her hopes high! She will think that I want to marry her, and I don’t want to hurt her."
“She knows you don’t want to marry her,” Kundavai suddenly responded, her tone all too neutral, startling Arulmozhi. “Do not assume things about my thozhi without knowing her. This is not what I taught you, or what Patti did.”
Arulmozhi stared at his sister with wide eyes, wondering what had happened. But he also felt guilt creep in.
Had he judged the Princess too harshly?
Akka was right, he did not know much about her, despite his… Oh, he understood now. He had attempted to ask his Akka about her, and that had fueled his Akka’s desire for him to marry her Thozhi.
“If you don’t want to marry her, fine. I will marry into a Kingdom with two Princes so that one of them can marry Vanathi,” Kundavai responded, still calm. “I will not separate from her.”
“I.. what?”
He was shocked. His Akka.. Vanathi… he suddenly could not shake the image of Vanathi marrying another man, and how awful it made him feel. Even the feeling of the fever had not been so bad.
“Akka, you said you would never leave Chozha Nadu.”
“I won’t, but I will ensure my Vanathi has a happy life, and is also with me,” Kundavai said.
“Is that why you wanted her to marry me?” Arulmozhi did not know why it saddened him.
“No. The best of men can marry only the best of women.”
"And you really believe that Vanathi is the best for me? I know you love her, but how can you think that she is everything I want?"
Kundavai sighed at her brother's words, as if they hurt her head and heart.
" Maybe she is not what you want, but she is everything you need. She fits perfectly with you, she is the water which reflects your light. Her kind heart is the perfect match for your noble one , she will understand you more than anyone. You need someone innocent and pure like her to survive in this world. Vanathi will be the cooling shade in your life after a long day. She will provide you with peace and happiness. Do you know what Jothidar told me about her? He said that Vanathi would give birth to one of the greatest kings of all times and she would marry a man who will one day become the king of the kings! Don't you see how everything matches with you?"
"Then is this the real reason, Akka?” Arunmolzhi inquired in a low voice, unable to keep his hurt completely hidden. "You want me to marry her because of her fortune? Not because of the fact that she will love me?"
" What are you even saying, Arul? It's nothing like that. I want you to marry her because I know that she is perfect for you! I know she is in love with you, and she will help you achieve your goals.”
"What if I want to forge a new path, Akka?"
"Wh..what do you mean?"- Kundavai was taken aback by her brother's sudden declaration. What is happening? Why is Arul suddenly behaving like this? The Arulmolzhi she knows never dared to go against the wishes of his akka, but this…
"I just mean that I am tired of all this akka! I am tired of all the expectations you people have from me , I am tired of this royal life , it suffocates me. The three months that I spent in Eezham, away from the kingdom, away from all the courtly politics, were the three best months of my life . And this makes me believe that maybe I am not meant for all this greatness you talk about, or the throne. Maybe I just want to live a simple life exploring this beautiful world rather than sitting on a throne and dwelling in politics!"
Kundavai sighed, and looked at her brother.
“Why this drastic change, thambi? You are not one to give up on your motherland. So why the sudden change? Was Vanthiyar right? Is it the Samudra Kumari?”
“The Samudra Kumari? Poonkuzhali? What does she have to do with this?”
" The least you can do right now is not lie to me, thambi! I deserve the truth! Are you going to leave us, Kanna? Please tell me you won’t? And what about my Vanathi?”
"I …akka!"
" Ilavarasi!"- Kundavai and Vandiyathevan turned around to find Vandiyathevan standing at the door.
" I am sorry, but the crown prince is here."
Aditha Karikalan knew from the very moment he stepped onto the periphery of the Buddha Vihara that something wasn't right. His suspicion was further confirmed when he came face to face with his siblings. It had been almost a year since he had seen his siblings, one year since the day he came to know about his beloved's marriage to his thatha. He could feel something was going on between his siblings , something that they were purposefully hiding from him. Kundavai's twinkling eyes and Arulmolzhi's morose demeanor clearly hinted in that direction. Even his best friend, Vallavaryan Vandiyathevan, who is known for his charming nature, seems to be sulking around the Vihara all alone. Aditha covered his face in frustration. He may have been a bit busy, but that doesn't mean his siblings have outgrown him? Then why are they not sharing their problems with him? Do they not trust him? Or do they think he is a madman who is incapable of helping them?
The sound of prayer coming from Vihara, interrupted his thoughts.
"No!"- Aditha thought aloud ,
" I may have abandoned my siblings before, but now I am here and I will not let them suffer as long as I am alive."

Unexpectedly
Seems like I cannot control myself.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Kundavai was reeling internally.
Everything had happened so fast, starting from her uyir thozhi’s vow, to the death of her stepmother, all successively bombarding her with heartaches. She could not help but feel that she was a big reason for the oath that Vanathi had taken, though her brother was as big a reason as she herself was.
She closed her eyes, and every time, the image was of the absolute hurt on Vanathi’s face when she made the oath- an oath she had decided because the rumours had reached Arulmozhi, who had clearly and pointedly spoken to her at the Nandi Mandapam.
Though, Kundavai could detect some emotion for her from him, something that was blossoming, something that was present, but something even her brother could not recognize.
And Vanathi was the one who had been hurt by it.
Kundavai did not know what it was, but she knew that there was more to the two of them than just her wish and desire.
Tears filled her eyes, and she sighed softly, resting her head on her hands. She should have been more careful with Vanathi.
“Akka?”
The concerned voice of Arulmozhi reached her ears, usually nectar to them at his very tone. His presence was still soothing to her, but her heart was overwhelmed about Vanathi in that minute, and tears leaked down her cheeks and down her chin, those that were caught by her brother quickly, not allowing them to fall.
“Akka, what happened?” he asked again, gently moving her hands away from her face. She looked at him, her weariness filling her face. She smiled instead, partly swallowing, before saying, “You got your wish, Thambi.”
“My wish? What are you saying, Akka?”
“Marry whoever you want, Thambi. Any Princess, any boat girl, anyone,” she whispered, defeated. “I cannot see the dream I had for you come true, so what is the point?”
“Akka, I am still your Thambi. I still listen to you.”
He sounded frantic, and Kundavai turned to look at him, gently patting his cheek.
“Thambi, we will still establish the Empire we wish for, we will do all of our joint dreams, but my desire of seeing Vanathi next to you is all for naught.”
Another tear slipped down her cheek, and she hastily wiped it away.
“What are you saying, Akka? Has Vanathi decided that she does not want to marry me, after all?”
Was Kundavai imagining it, or was her brother sounding disappointed. She peeked at his face, which while holding neutrality, showed tinges of discomfort, his eyes holding an indescribable emotion. What Kundavai read on his face gave her sudden hope, and she had to pause, to pray to Parameshvara that all will be well.
“Her love for you is as pure and true as it always has been,” Kundavai said. “She has just decided to sacrifice her right to the throne of our Empire if she marries you.”
Arulmozhi had gone completely silent, but the widening of his eyes gave Kundavai her answer. She continued, partially ruthless with her words, needing her brother to understand what she wanted to drive home.
“I tell you, I Swear, with the goddesses of the sky and earth as witnesses, that if Ponniyin Selvar comes through this crisis alive, if he comes forward of his own free will and takes my hand in marriage - even if I’m granted so great a reward, I swear I will never sit on the throne in the Thanjai palace. I swear this! I swear!"
Kundavai recited Vanathi’s oath verbatim, every word like molten lead to her ears. She lifted her eyes to meet her brother’s, shock running through her when she saw tears running down his golden cheeks.
“Thambi…”
Arulmozhi hugged Kundavai, crying his heart out on her shoulder, moved by the oath, as Kundavai too cried, knowing that things had become complicated in an unanticipated way, and not seeing a way out of this.
-------------------------------------------------------
Should I continue this as a multiple chapter story? If yes, do any of you have suggestions?

Kolam : Part 2
Inspired by the fic based on the Ratchasa Mamane song by @nspwriteups and @harinishivaa
The first day of the three day long festival has arrived. And our hero is still clueless about the malady that has struck his hear. It leaves him all restless for even the smallest glimpse of a certain damsel and chooses to randomly skip a beat or two every time he does spot her. What a horrific mystery!
The entire kingdom is abuzz with the excitement of the show that his Akka has planned. And the question that he keeps hearing over and over again is...Will Maya Kanna dance again? Why will Maya Kanna descend on earth just to dance for a festival? Why did Vanathi keep disappearing? The last few days he could barely catch a glimpse or two of her. The rehearsal area was kept strictly confidential. Was Vanathi performing? And of course his curiosity was not exclusive to Vanathi...he was just as curious about other performers like...nevermind...all of them basically. After successfully convincing himself of this he proceeded towards the seating area.
The seating area faces the stairs of the temple complex. The entire place is decked with flower garlands. The front seats are reserved for the members of the royalty.
He found his Patti already seated there admiring the arrangements. He felt a tap on his shoulder. His Akka stood there smiling at him. 'Why Thambi? are you looking for someone?' Kundhavai smirked at him.
'No Akka. Can a man not admire the beautiful decorations in peace?' Arulmozhi rolled his eyes at his beloved annoying sister.
'You like it?' Kundhavai grinned at her Thambi and he dramatically declared that it would require him four sets of eyes to be able to fully admire so much of beauty. The Ilaya Piratti laughed and then proudly beamed at the arrangements,' All credit goes to my uyir thozhi for planning everything so beautifully.' The mention of her uyir thozhi caught his attention. He tried to casually ask her where her friend was but left in a huff when he was greeted with a massive smirk. He wanted to grab the seat beside Patti before Anna and Akka could beat him to it.
He sat beside his Patti after taking her blessings. Somehow the festive spirit had messed with his siblings' heads as they gracefully threw the royal protocols out of the window and annoyed him till he relented to sitting sandwiched between the two most annoying siblings in the whole world. A very secret part of him was relishing how this moment felt like a slice of childhood free of responsibilities, duties and an unrelenting malady-stricken heart.
When everyone was seated a soft music started playing and a group of little girls made their way to the stage and took up their positions. A silence fell on the crowd. Arulmozhi scanned the place for a sign of Vanathi and realised that even Vanthiyathevan was missing. Were they alright? They had been gone for too long. The program was about to begin. Even if they are performing they should atleast be on the stage. 'What happened Thambi? Missing someone?' Aditha teased him and before he could reply a flute started playing.
A collective gasp left the crowd as they looked up. And Arulmozhi's jaws fell open at the sight in front of him.
His Vanathi...NO WAIT...just Vanathi. Why should she be his Vanathi? So Vanathi was suspended in mid air with a make-shift rope harness in her Maya Kanna avatar. And it was a sight of ethereal beauty. Her pink dhoti, angvastram and turban as well as the dark blue blouse seemed to make her dazzle like gold. The peacock feather on her head seemed like a direct blessing from Krishna to play his character on stage. She had a garland of white flowers around her neck and her eyes were softly lined with kohl and mischief. And he had no idea how the frail maiden had the courage to dance with such grace while hanging on a rope.
He was admiring her mudras showing the flute when he received two nudges from either side. He shook his head and decided to focus on the dance to escape the incoming torment from both the sides.
Vanathi was on the ground now. She was moving to the music so gracefully with her expressions full of playfulness. Her moves showed every word that was being sung. Then the beats of the song changed which marked the electrifying entry of Kamsa Mama and his minions. And there was Vanthiyathevan!! He energetically hopped down the stairs challenging Krishna. While he threw challenges at Him, Kanna laughed at him mockingly.
The little girls pushed Kamsa Mama away from Kanna and he fell onto his minions and his friend quickly stole a glance at his Akka. This time he nudged his sister to send her blushing away to glory. His minions put a mask on him and then began the fight between Kamsa Mama and Maya Kanna. His heart was in his mouth throughout as the two of them fought while hopping dangerously on the stairs, Vanathi swinging her leg clean over Vanthiyathevan's head, parrying his strikes, and swinging while suspended on the ropes. The docile Vanathi maintained a mocking and challenging expression even while periliously hanging mid air. The dance ended with Krishna stiking down Kamsa Mama and sitting on his chest much above the ground and then being slowly lowered down.
Arulmozhi heaved a sigh of relief to see them safe. And then his eyes fell once more on Vanathi. The sunlight grazing her form and illuminating her in a golden glow. She seemed to look as divine as the bronze statue of Krishna in the nearby temple. Her smile made his heart beat in his chest in a wild frenzy. And suddenly he knew the answer to all his questions. He did not have a strange heart disease. He was in love. He was in such deep love that he searched for those warm doe-eyes everywhere. He searched for another chance where his fingertips could brush against her palm. He searched for a chance to be close to her, near her warmth, her kindness and adoring eyes. This revelation hit him like a maddened herd of elephants.
Now our hero is determined to conquer this herculean task of admitting his feelings to Vanathi because he simply cannot wait.
All the events for the day are over. The brave Chola scion, the youngest tiger, Surya Kula Manikkam, Arulmozhi Varman is now preparing for the greatest conquest of his life. The Conquest of Confession.
He ventured to his Akka's room where he was sure to find the Ilavarasi of his heart. Sure enough he could hear her sweet giggles even before he entered the room. He could not keep the smile from forming on his face. He stopped just a few feet away from the room. His heart was hammering away inside him. He had known that Vanathi had always loved him with all her heart and he had always avoided her. What if it was too late? It did not seem like that but what if by some wild chance had the flower of love withered away? With a deep breath he entered the room.
He saw his Akka gleefully hugging a giggling Vanathi and Vanthiyathevan was striding in front of them pretending to be Kamsa Mama. The moment he saw Vanathi's face he had this sudden surge of valiant romance.
He marched up to Vanathi, knelt down on one knee, took her hand and said, 'Devi, the entire cosmos works on the union and balance of Shiva and Shakti. Their essence permeates through everything around us. They manifest the tiniest fractions of their power in all the living beings and those fractions of Shiv-Shakti complete their purpose by uniting with their other half. I feel like Parameshwar asked his beloved, Adi Shakti, to manifest in you while he blessed me with one of his fraction. Would you let this sea-faring ascetic be graced by your radiant light, Kodambalur Kula Vilakku?'
Vanathi had frozen in her seat, blushing furiously. Her hands had turned cold and she just sat there staring at Arulmozhi's hand now clutching her's. Kundhavai grasped her seat lest she does not fall off. And the Ilaya Piratti, famed for her wit, was dumbstruck. Vanthiyathevan had sat himself down on the floor in shock. The shock gave way to sheer pride on his face. The prince had finally conquered the biggest quest of his life. Kundhavai's shock gave way to wildly rising joy and pride. At last. At long last. She had dreamed for this moment for so long. All these emotions gave way to a panicky Kundhavai grabbing Vanthiyathevan's arm and dragging him away to give the two lovebirds some time. All the way out of the room Vanthiyathevan whooped with joy.
Once the commotion had died down, Arulmozhi turned towards Vanathi and grinned. 'I do not think you can turn any more red than this,' he said softly. 'Will you not look at me?'
Vanathi's eyes finally met his. Tears were threatening to fall at any moment. 'Ilavarasar, all these days I had waited for you to call me yours. I do not know what to say. I had imagined this day so many times. And everytime I said something which conveyed what I feel for you, Swami. Now I have no words. I am yours. I have always been yours,' her voice shook as she said those words. She then looked at him with such a strange longing. Maybe this was how Parvati had looked at Shiva when she used to pine for Him. Arulmozhi held her close to him. Tightly. Making up for all the time lost.
So our hero has emerged victorious in his biggest adventure. He now has answers to all his questions. And most importantly he has his Vanathi....yes his Vanathi....in his arms now. She had lit the most beautiful lamp in his life the day she had dropped that lamp before his journey.
