I’ve been following this project from the start so it’s been great seeing interactions between the characters and how the fandom is so excited for it. ^^

I tried to draw the cast from memory and, while Miss seems a little different from canon, at least I got the dark hair roots and strands sticking out lol. But details aside they’re all recognizable! Which means they’re lovely designs that are unique from one another✨

Eclipse’s shades are a combination of his usual eye mask and the shades from this artwork, and Hoshi’s glasses are inspired by this one!🌒⭐️

Designs… (I don’t have a name for her yet but) the pigtails girl’s shapes are a combination of curves pointing downwards and curves pointing upwards. The idea ended up being that she’s on Eclipse and Lady DeVoid’s side so (after reading this post by Kiana about how most of the characters had Aika’s design as the springboard and are designed to complement eachother) I wanted her design to complement those two’s, with some influence from Zira. I like that the strands of hair on her forehead and the shape around them mirror both Zira’s hair and DeVoid’s horns haha. Plus, I was trying to figure out how to design her glasses and they ended up being kind of the inverse of Eclipse’s eye mask, which is very nice. Eclipse and DeVoid seem to be associated with sharp curves and circle shapes; maybe her outfit could be a lot fancier…

As for what her role might be in the story… I dunno, if she works with Eclipse and DeVoid, and Eclipse is all ~theatric and grand~ then maybe she could be like… his assistant… or something? Who knows. Or, I say “observer from afar” so perhaps she actually gets along with Zira well and they’d watch on the sidelines while Aika and Eclipse duke it out…?

Eclipse… Moon… Umbra… man what if I just name the pigtails girl Yueshi (月食, lunar eclipse)(for both the moon motif that Zira and Eclipse have, and the darkness motif that Eclipse and DeVoid have haha)

Shooting star and telescope don’t feel quite right, but with the circular shapes and the lunar eclipse, I could kind of see her having some star trail motifs with her sweater…

I guess Umbra would be the same type of elf (? darkness/concept personified?) as Lady DeVoid but I’m not sure haha. We don’t have much information on DeVoid other than the fact that she is darkness itself and that she lost most of her powers which she can’t remember how to use. Banished by a Star Guardian, revenge, recruiting Eclipse to help spread the darkness particles to destroy the Star Guardian… If she has a similar backstory to MLP:FIM’s Princess Luna then does that mean she was originally Aika’s teammate or something? haha

About Umbra’s hair… (Feel free to correct me for any inaccuracies.) I think from the reference photos I was trying to draw box braids but got so focused on also making the braids look like moon phases that I’m not sure if it’d still be box braids in the end? They seem more like cornrows now, at least for the side ones?

Well, initially I scribbled down Yueshi so I could experiment with values because I was thinking about how light-coloured pants draw the eye too much if the outfit or the top half of the character is darker. (Half way through she ended up looking like a IDWTBAMG character so I tried to match the proportions with Aika’s turnaround.) But I suppose if there’s enough contrast for the upper half (and IDWTBAMG’s stark black design style gives a lot of contrast) then it works out better. I think the combination of making Yueshi’s hair and the top half of her sweater black and the circle shape white worked out okay. Initially she had large round eyes so I tried giving her round glasses too but since she ended up being a fan character in the universe, it was too similar to Aika and Zira.

Umbra’s design kind of popped into my mind today so I tried to scribble it down and experimented with hairstyles. But green and purple are already associated with Zira, and that shade of lavender is more like Eclipse so I guess I’ll fiddle around with her colour scheme more. Maybe there’s not enough of the signature black there, and both could use some more details to match the level of details in the canon designs… (If Yueshi works under DeVoid then she’d probably get a fancy outfit too.) Then again, Umbra is more like Miss in terms of detail so it seems she’d be a background/supporting character or something…🤔

(I can’t seem to escape the puffy sleeves/cone shape silhouette🤔 Gotta diversify. Also, not sure if it’s ‘cause of the project’s style or if I just really love circles in character design haha)

Eventually, he stepped forward, selecting a pair that were similar to the ones Theater had pointed out, but were a dark brown, similar to his scarf. They looked sturdy but soft, with a fur trim.

He couldn't help but grin as he tried them on, hopping and skipping around in pure glee.

So i was thinking about Don Quixote and how he'd be in a modern au, and i got curious: how different would Cecilia and her life be in a modern au? What kinda occupation would she have, and would her strained familiar relationships be the same? (I know the poison food stuff probs wouldn't be a thing to deal with in this au, but yeah) would her family still be a rich powerful one, and if so, what industry would they have gotten rich from?

Ohohoho modern au??? It'd be a very different life for Cecilia, considering rosemary and her apothecary I'd guess that her family would mostly be doctors and medical professionals, the kind of people who make medicine of all kinds, while I don't think them having like a secret poison trade beneath the surface would fit in a modern au, it might shit gets fucked but considering the more focus on put em in the real world they're just a bunch of doctors, maybe more shady doctors who focus on profits over health thus relating in the poison relation? While in game (no spoilers I haven't even started the quest this is me guessing from stuff I already know) it seems they got rich from simply being a standing family in rinascita's history nowadays that's not a stable thing, so instead of that they might own a large hospital firm or business, though the fisalia's are more secretive, while the montelli's branch out a lot they tend to stick to their corners in partners and the like, so maybe an underground hospital? For like shady deals and that's how they get rich and they just have a regular hospital to cover it up?

Fisalia family business does need more thoughts but for cecilia specifically I can guarantee you her relationship with them is still strained, she might get pressured growing up to focus on medical studies and join the family business, but her interests instead lie in theatre, she joins a fencing club in her posh high school and claims it's just a sport but in reality she learns it because she wants to use the moves on a stage to perform. Though considering they can't do half the evil deeds they normally do Cecilia might not fully be ready to realize leaving would be best, no carnevale and no fucked up god drama means no realization and count down to a choice, plus less religious trauma maybe? At least in the "i think I like my family's equivalent of Satan over the god they all worship" way, she wouldn't be in the same spot of running away, but I think she'd be close to it? Like uh maybe she's in college or something? Not entirely separated from her family but like just enough where they won't raise an eyebrow and she can still branch out and realize she's in a bubble, secretly in a theatre program but she has to limit her appearances in public performances lest word get out and her family hears, unlike regular Cecilia who is closer to knowing the truth of her family and their love modern cecilia has no such benefits, especially if no forte which I'm pretty sure it won't be but just in case, eh? Without mirror Cecilia to push the repressed truth to the surface she holds it in more and more until... Well, it's going to explode one way or another, mirror cecilia and her attempts made that explosion normally less destructive but modern cecilia? Considering her family would be high end she would be under more pressure and she's likely due for a massive crash out.

She might work at her family's business? Maybe a chemist over straight up hospital though, she doesn't prefer handling chemicals but she knows her way around it due to her family so they likely handle it a lot too, she works part time, she's under a lot of pressure to attend a medical school from her family, girl has so many shitty aunts and uncles, not going into grandma fisalia because new update not played and I don't know how she feels about her yet, maybe in the past the fisalia were better doctors and scientists and chemists and all that, but recently due to their more traditional and conservative views they're falling out of public favour so there's more pressure on Cecilia as the latest generation to do it right, and more distain from her peers for being a fisalia, girl has even more reason to be in the closet.

I mainly think she'd be attending a collage because that's like prime moment to get the fuck away from your family, to learn outside of them if you've been sheltered which she definitely has, her childhood friend was still her reflection it was just less sentient about It. Though personally I am unfamiliar with how collages work, if they let her take her pick because they were going to get her into their own medical school then she might attend one more with a theatre program, a coincidence she claims, if it's not high end I can see her lying about her last name, lying to the principal to conceal it by saying it's family matters that nobody at this school know and she's got the money in her name to have the power there, and of course lying to her classmates about it, she dyed her hair dark green on the first day to hide the fisalia resemblance, she claims it's to fit in with her aunts and uncles who still chastise her for not being popular because she's a fisalia, she shouldn't have to follow fads, but they do buy the excuse.

She's very busy due to basically having a double life, Cecilia at school and heir fisalia at home and work, juggling her part time job with her family with theatre rehearsals, while she can't be on stage for public shows she does help with background work, making sure everyone has their costumes and making sure the singing actors have a great blend of tea for their throats, one day she hopes to be the star of a show but deep down she knows that will never happen with her family as it is

a scene that you don’t want to write is a scene you don’t want to read. don’t write stuff you don’t want to read.

me, personally: wait until the scenes that get you to that first initial scene you were excited about are just as interesting as that scene too. it won’t be the first, second, or third thing you think of. if u have a scene you really want to write, write that, and keep writing only those exciting scenes that come to you. eventually you have a million interesting scenes for your fic and they become puzzle pieces for you to arrange and then eventually the strings come together and you realize you really do have an interesting way to get to that original scene, and you’re just as excited to write it, if you haven’t already written it when you were brainstorming other scenes earlier in the writing process that you didn’t even realize could carry your story like that.

i've decided my girl yuuna is gonna get some magical/trauma-related hair changes as her story goes on. i'm not totally sure when to this happens or if it's like a little bit after each overblot until this is what she'll look like by book 7. but i wanted her design to be a little more fun rather than rooted in reality and i love the idea of her changing physically and not just emotionally while stuck in twisted wonderland
