The only concrete thing I will comment personally on about the Doctor Who finale is that, just like The Pyramids of Mars with the Empire of Death, I watched The Three Doctors in preparation for The Reality War.
That was a mistake.

learn your fucking history
(IMAGE ID: A man sitting in a pew in a church labeled “Modern Who is too political”. Behind him is a person with a gun labeled “Vengeance on Varos’ election subplot”. Behind them is another person with a gun labeled “Genesis of the Daleks’ fascism allegory”. From a hidden corner is a sniper pointing a gun at that person, labeled “Barbara saying trans rights in The Aztecs”.)

“least favorite” isn’t anywhere close to bad. it just shows how damn hard the competition is going, but we’re talking about gold medals all around for each actor i’ve seen portray the doctor so far.

If I had a nickel for everytime the Doctor died from radiation poisoning I'd have two nickels... which isn't much but it's weird it happened twice.

Rose: He's the last of the timelords. You have no idea what it's like to be the last of your kind at the end of a genocide
Me: true. But you're both wrong.

You. Have. Identified. As. Dalek.
there are only two good scenes with daleks in the entirety of doctor who
one of them is the scene where the ninth doctor angrily demands that a dalek he believes to be the last in the world just die already, so he can finally be rid of them. it’s a bitter, tense scene as the traumatised, angry last survivors of a horrific genocidal war confront each other in mutual hatred, and the doctor has to face up to the fact that yes, he is willing to kill and to destroy, the traits he hates most in the daleks, and how different really does that make him from them?
the other is when the first doctor sees an empty dalek casing in a museum and immediately gets in and pretends to be a dalek

ive said this before actually but i think a lot of post-kate-stewar unit plotlines are really hurt by nuwho's clearly mcu-influenced aesthetics of unit -- a big avengers tower with supertech and helicopters. classic who's unit was obviously in theory just as politically noxious but on screen always came across as scrappy underdogs because the low real-world BBC budget made them seem like an organization that employed four guys out of a run-down warehouse, and this made them infinitely more sympathetic. same for torchwood--i feel like kate stewart going sicko mode on podcasts man came off way worse than if jack had done that on the torchwood spinoff bewcause she has Troops and helicopters and unmarked vans and he has three bisexuals and a bunker in cardiff. wait i think ive made this exact post before

it's true that nuwho is littered with returning classic villains, but bringing back the daleks or the cybermen or the master is very different to bringing back the rani. the former are three beloved villains who all reappeared constantly in classic who. even people who don't watch doctor who have heard of the daleks. but the rani? that's more like bringing back fucking soldeed in terms of seriousness

One of my favorite things about being a Doctor Who fan—at least in my experience—is how I always go into a new Doctor thinking, “Eh, this one’s not gonna be for me.” Classic Who, NuWho, doesn’t matter. I’ll cross my arms and go full skeptical mode. “This isn’t one of my Doctors.”
And then, like clockwork, a few episodes in I’m in love with their dumb little catchphrases and ridiculous mannerisms.
Case in point: I started watching the First Doctor fully expecting to be bored. I thought, “Okay, this is just the show’s Old Man Phase. I’ll respect it, but I probably won’t like it.” Three stories later and I’m like, “I would die for this tiny goblin man.”
Every Doctor sneaks up on you like that—one weird monologue, one dramatic coat swirl, one totally unearned level of confidence—and suddenly you’re emotionally compromised. It’s the circle of Whovian life.

Even better, there’s a second doctor ‘John smith’ (so what? Common name, right?) who takes part just to contradict everything the other doctor says and insult them without them knowing cuz there scenes are filmed separately.
I would pay good money for a mockumentary that takes place in the dw universe that’s just a bunch of historians trying to figure out who the fuck this doctor guy is and why they keep showing up in literally every historical record
