A Steve who cannot buy his boyfriend Eddie's movie tickets all time, take him out to bi weekly dinners, or even publicly win him a teddy bear at the fair is a Steve who pivots, and starts making trips the the closest hobby store.

The bigger one, that sells more than just a handful of D&D manuals.

The guys who hang around there are initially confused--the sports guy who should clearly be buying sports cards is instead coming in once a month to load up on everything from fantasy books to new dice. Clearly he has to be a nerd in disguise.

Yet when one brave soul casually asked what his preferred game was he said basketball, like a total normie.

Finally after a full year of this, the guy opens the door to the shop, but for once doesn't step in. Instead, Eddie steps through and gasps, before spinning and loudly accusing Steve of hiding the store from him.

"It's not my fault you refuse to drive this far out." Steve fires right back but there's a smile on his face, and the stores entire crew watch in awe as Steve follows Eddie around.

Steve is always careful in Hawkins, when it comes to not acting like they're in a relationship but its hard in the moment, and he's not as careful as he should be.

Eddie brings an entire armload of things to the front of the store and Steve insists on paying because;

"It's your birthday man, I'm not gonna make you pay for your own presents."

They leave, the two of them practically floating, leaving behind a bewildered group of people who immediately start arguing whether or not they heard the weird sporty guy call the metalhead "baby."

Think about Harrow's AU Bubbles

Thinking about Harrow's AU bubbles, not as fanfic references, but as expressions of her subconscious fears and desires, is so fascinating.

The Harrow Nova one is pretty obvious. Harrow's parents were obsessed with her being a necromancer, were willing to kill for it. It's only natural she'd wonder, "What if I hadn't been?"

And the answer Harrow gives herself is: Your parents and everyone would reject you (except, wildly, for Crux). Also they'd be alive cuz you'd never opened the tomb, and you'd be an unpopular orphan they'd abuse (Just Like Gideon). And you'd still be just as devoted to serving the Ninth with a blade. There's a lot there. But the other really telling bit is her relationship with Gideon. Harrow Nova professes to hate the reverend daughter even as she seeks to (re) create the necro-cav bond with her. But that hatred doesn't seem to be mutual. And the bit about the daughter intervening when Harrow was whipped…

That's Harrow's subconscious saying if their roles had been reversed, "Gideon would have treated me better than I treated her. Gideon would have protected me."

The Ball AU also seems like a reasonable extension of Gideon's childhood query: "What if my other parent is the most important guy in the universe?" Answer: Emperor Dad would throw a big party.

But also… it's a bride-finding ball! That's so very telling. It could have been anything, but Harrow invents another scenario where she's fighting, competing to get to Gideon, to be awarded the role of her sworn partner (first cav, now bride), while outwardly claiming not to want it.

Now The BARI Star AU often gets described as a "coffee shop" one, but it's actually set in a cohort cafeteria. And normally I wouldn't split hairs over that, but I think the cohort setting is actually really significant. The Cohort was Gideon's dream, and also Harrow's rival for Gideon's attention. It's what she kept trying to leave Harrow for.

So now Harrow dreams that she's left Drearburh to join the cohort and will meet Gideon there. Not fight or compete for a role where they're bound to each other, but just meet her there. That feels like yielding. Like compromise. It makes me think Harrow's subconscious has matured past trying to keep Gideon with her always and is instead looking for ways that SHE can be with Gideon. Meet Gideon where she is.

(Also this may be a stretch, but I always find it low-key funny that Harrow imagines Gideon in the cafeteria… I like to think her brain is skimming lists of hypothetical military jobs like... what sees the least action... ah, coffee-adept, she'll be perfectly safe there...)

Hat Thief- Tyler Owens Drabble

Note: I'm so obsessed with writing for him, if anyone has ideas please send them to me. Also I didn't edit it, sorry.

You're lying in the truck with your boot clad feet out the window and Tyler's hat on your head. It's burning hot and he's taking his sweet time for some reason. Your white tank top and jean shorts are clinging to you uncomfortably. The AC in the motel is broken and Tyler has the keys. so you can't turn on the car.

"Tyler? Baby, you coming?" You call out to no avail. Evidently he's not even outside yet. You groan deeply and throw an arm over your face. Y'all aren't even chasing today, he wants to take you to his family farm to ride horses.

You've met his parents a few times, they're very sweet and loving and very proud of their son, which of course you understand. He a college graduate, internet famous, and a very selfless person. You truly can't get enough of him, even after dating for 3 years, you still get flustered when he flirts with you. And wearing his stuff, like the hat on your head right now, makes you giddy. You start to blush just thinking of him; his smile, his laugh, his voice, his hair, his hands, his abs, his thoughtfulness, his hugs and kisses, you are literally in love with every part of him.

You are snapped out of your thoughts when you hear the motel door open and close.

"Ty, that you?" You call out.

"Yeah baby, sorry I'll be ready in a moment! I'm just lookin' for something!"

"Okay!" You say as you hear his footsteps approaching the truck. He opens the back and starts moving stuff around. After a few minutes you sit up on your elbows and peer out the back window.

"Whatcha looking for Ty?" He makes his way around to the side of the truck and opens one of the doors.

"Have you seen my..." he trails off. You crane your neck to look at him, which is made difficult by your boots still being about the window.

"Your what?" You say, further confused by his grin. "What?"

"You little thief!" He cries out. "What?!" You say indignantly.

"My hat!" He responds, snatching it off your head. "I've been looking for that for twenty minutes!"

"Oh! I was wondering what was taking you so long!" You laugh.

"Stealing is wrong." He scoffs as he gets in the car. "But I will say you look damn good in my hat." You giggle at that and pull your feet in the car as he starts the engine.

"I love you Ty."

"I love you too hat thief."

I think humans have an innate ability to recognize The Creature because today, when I had to replace my 4.5 year old phone whose battery life was finally shot to shit, it was a slightly annoying process, but it was just a process. Just a device. Old device transferred. New device set up.

But last month when my 5.5 year old bike was stolen and I needed to replace it, it was nowhere near the same, because the bike was a Creature and the Creature was taken from me and it's somewhere out there, alone, maybe chopped for parts. And I have a new bike now and it's a perfectly fine Creature by its own regard, but it is not the same Creature. My old bike was a living thing, and the living thing doesn't stop being the living thing just because it was replaced. Because it was Creature-shaped and Creature-sized and so it was a Creature. Something in my genes knows this.

I realized I didn’t have enough yarn to complete a project. The LYS where I’d bought it was sold out. I ordered two more skeins online and figured I’d work out how to blend it in and make a color change look intentional.

It came today and … friends. It’s the exact same dye lot. 🤯
