Things TenSoon did not react to today:

a gentleman simultaneously carrying an armful of fishing poles, walking three pulling dogs, and staring at Ten as he talked to me

multiple dogs at crosswalks

the Erbs and Gerbs delivery person at our house

several panhandlers

four hours worth of coffee shop guests

Thing TenSoon lost his shit about:

owner of our most frequented dog-friendly coffee shop talking to him (To be fair, the guy has no manners with dogs. To be less fair, Ten has had five years to figure out this guy is not his nemesis and is-- in fact-- just Some Guy)

Evander has been doing well here! We are currently working through the resource guarding and starting to make some serious breakthrough progress. About 50% of the time he is chosing to come away from his prize instead of hunch over it and snarl- the rest of the time he begins by growling but still comes away from it. I believe an adopter will find much more luck calling him away from his prize with a cookie if they need to take something from him for any reason. Once he comes away from it, he stops guarding it and I can pick it up no problem.

He is most of the way potty trained at this point. He had some accidents here and there but I've mostly learned his schedule. He also really likes to spend time outside, so I think a home with a safe, fenced yard or strong tieout would be great for him.

He does still have a pretty explosive tantrum about strangers coming to the house, though he calms down quickly once he's met them.

He is totally fine with both thunder and fireworks! Slept through the holiday celebrations like it was nothing :)

Now that he's learning it won't hurt him, he's fairly easy to trim his nails and perform basic grooming if I go slow for him. He is good for baths and I wet him whenever it's particularly warm outside, and he stands still for me and doesn't fuss.

He loves walks and hikes and is learning loose leash walking fairly well. He continues to be non-reactive and non-aggressive on leash when outside the home- I think a potential adopter would probably have the best luck with him meeting someone new on leash outside.

At this point I think it is mainly the resource guarding and these stranger-in-my-house tantrums that make me concerned for a future adopter. They would need to be committed to continuing training with him to manage this behavior, whether with me or with a different experienced trainer. Evander is a wonderful little guy who loves life and would benefit from someone who is understanding of his needs. He's come a long way the past month and I continue to look forward to his progress.

Riley managed to slip her collar while she was on her tieout line today enjoying the nice weather. She REALLY enjoyed the day...thanks to a webinar I was in I did not notice she was on her on reconnaissance for two hours, and when I went outside to take her for a walk and give her her evening food, she was sitting directly on my doorstep, no collar and soaking wet. Guess she played in the pond ALL day...at least she was good enough to come back and not go running off into the void...

I was just doing dishes and I looked out my kitchen window and lo and fucking behold there are two loose dogs walking into my yard???????? I am so fucking mad. I went outside and yelled at them to go home and they buggered off. The one looked like a mamma that just had a litter. I called Jon, he was at the shop, and he hopped in his dad’s truck and went after the dogs. I haven’t heard anything back yet, but I am RAGING right now. I am so beyond mad. Just nothing but dogs at large in this fucking town. I am going straight into the RM office tomorrow morning and I am going to tell them to deal with this issue because I have had enough. I will not take some bullshit excuse. Don’t have bylaw enforcement anymore? Deal with it yourselves. Go catch all these loose dogs and either take them to the fucking shelter or drive them to the city and drop them off there. I am done. I am so beyond done with this shit. What if Oscar had been in our yard on a tieout?? These dogs would have walked into our yard and probably fucking killed my dog. And whoever owns these dogs wouldn’t have given a fuck!!!

Mom and Katie tried to go camping..... Went to our usual spot up in the mountains. The spot we have gone to for 20 years. Some jerk spray painted a swastika and the N-word as well as a mushroom on the trees there that they didn't hack-up the bark on and hung a noose from the tree. They left a crap ton of garbage and nastiness including a very used bucket that was full of human feces. So we went further up river. We got into a spot that was in much better shape discovered a pretty cool swimming hole and worked for an hour to level the trailer in the dark... minus the Jack that was supposed to be in the truck (which is why it took so long...btw) because someone removed it from my truck... Got to bed at 1 am... dogs woke us at 6 Speaking of the dogs... Skye had a fun new experience... she chased a deer....lol... Thank God Mags was tied up! We hiked a bit, played a bit hitched up to move to the lake about 40 miles away, if you go the forest service road up to the top of the canyon we were in and take the rim road across... Busted a joint on the frame of my vintage 1963 Cadet Coach Robin Hood travel trailer...going to the top of the canyon... This is a single lane road... blasted out of the side of a canyon...so it's a ROUGH ROAD! Went super careful... 5mph... seriously...the trailer broke after five miles... we had to stop..pop the frame piece back in place, and figure out how to make it so we could travel without dragging the frame piece and potentially starting a forest fire from all the sparks...finally used a dog tieout cable... My daughter Katie is so smart (it was totally her idea!) Took an hour and a half to go the 8 miles to the summit of the canyon road... up to the Junction. Then the ten miles to the highway on the paved road was filled with rockslides Covering 50% of the road in places, 12 inch deep snow (Yes, you read that right... SNOW...in June!) in places and we took almost an hour to go ten more miles... Once we hit the highway we were at the summit (5851 feet) and we stop because the dogs have been in the back of the truck the whole time. The frame piece is being held up by the dog tie out cable and I am afraid to go hiway speed.... We get to the turn off for the lake...yeah thats the picture... did you read it? Yes that sign says closed... Why you ask? There is STILL SNOW So we say forget it... let's go home. The trip home should have taken an hour tops... at highway speed... but I took the back roads... because I was worried about the trailer... So we got home. Parked the trailer and unhitched... we left the campspot at 2pm... the trip shouldn't have taken more than 3 hours took five... lol but it was an adventure
