⠀ Believe it or not, humans are not meant to sit for prolonged periods of time. Your body is designed to move. Prolonged sitting produces a pattern of over- and under-active muscles which can lead to unnecessary pain and injury. ⠀ ⠀ If you don’t incorporate stretching and strengthening into your routine, the weak muscles will continue to get weaker while the short muscles get shorter and tighter. ⠀ This will continue to encourage movement dysfunction, decrease in range of motion and increase in pain and injury. ⠀ ⠀ The consequences of being sedentary are incredibly underrated. Getting up throughout your day to walk and stretch can be really helpful at preventing muscle imbalances. Not to mention it is helpful to take break from the desk for awhile. There are mental benefits to it as well! 🤓⠀ ⠀ Another thing that can help is a standing desk. This can prevent tight hamstrings and hip flexors since you are not sitting. Another wee physio session with @thebodymechanic10 . Woke last thurs morning and my hand/arm was really swollen and painful! Took a wee trip to the doc who advised I’d trapped a nerve! Caitlin got onto helping sort that today, with some deep tissue and using the graston.
