Andalite Chronicles thoughts (pt. 4):

This book does so much to emphasize that Visser Three really is Esplin 9466 AND Alloran: he has Esplin's arrogance but Alloran's fondness for battle, Esplin's andalite obsession but Alloran's collection of monster morphs and heavy reliance on morph-fighting, Esplin's temper but Alloran's knack for shock-and-awe. Like, Visser Three wouldn't be the guy we see in canon if not for Alloran's influence.

Related: the motif of rigid power structures being a bad damn idea continues in this book. Alloran is more responsible for Alloran getting infested than Elfangor is, and Elfangor takes forever to realize Alloran has been infested, because Alloran has such absolute power over the others.

Would the andalites have been able to take back the taxxon planet, if they'd just bothered to ally with the taxxons? It certainly seems that way, given how well the rebel taxxons do at attacking the spaceport and how incompetent the andalites seem to be at managing the situation. If Elfangor had just stuck around and fought with Arbron, they might've been able to turn the tide of the war right there. Too bad Elfangor didn't have access to a morphing cube when he crashed on this planet...

Seriously, though, I love the use of the taxxons and hork-bajir as Freud Masterplots for the humans: they parallel the humans to show how the humans could end up, if humanity didn't have Animorphs on its side. Waiting for the andalites isn't enough; the hosts have got to be their own heroes or they'll be crushed between the imperial powers no matter whose side wins.

Also, I love the... IDK, identity horror? Of the protagonists' attempt to use the Time Matrix. Like, it shows that the technology is terrifying because it is beyond all human comprehension — but in ways that are scary because they're weird. It answers the question of "why not use time travel to fix everything?" with "because no one knows how to use it effectively, and your brain will tear itself in half if you try."

So, it was never fully explained what, exactly, the Time Matrix is, in canon, IIRC. In The Andalite Chronicles, Elfangor guesses it was created by the Ellimists, since he doesn't have any other possible explanation, but The Ellimist Chronicles debunks that, since the Ellimist is in fact a singular individual who doesn't create anything like that.

I remember a fic that posited that the Time Matrix was the last remaining piece of Toomin's original biomechanical body, and that's as good an explanation as I have.

That's always been my headcanon, that it's one of those circular paradoxes that has always existed and will always exist. The Time Matrix has to exist for the Time Matrix to exist.

But I do like the idea that it contains some piece of Toomin's soul, and/or his original ketran form, and that that's part of why it's so closely connected to him.

Maybe it's the despair on Morty's voice asking to go home, like a lost child seeking for an adult to care for him after losing all hope, or maybe the framing of both scenes. And another little detail: Rick never hugs him back, and Summer's hug looks so... comforting for Morty

Hello there and thank you for your inquiry and your kind words! I'm devasted and I've no idea what exactly happened, but the blog has disappeared. This Sunday I did the usual #archive resource reblog and then wanted to reblog one more post and suddenly that was not possible anymore. The blog was not on my dash.

I've contacted tumblr staff and I got their automated response that my message was received. That's the situation right now. All i can do is to hope for the best and see @staff do some miracles and bring back @destielfanfic back from the unexpected exile/hell/purgatory/the empty/orphaned blog graveyard etc.

I just realized. One thing that Optimus will certainly be educated on by the Primes in the Haunted AU is the various was One Can Kill A Quintesson! Leaving some Autobots confused at times when he's teaching them in return because 'This sounds pretty Specific...???'

It's slightly competitive on the Primes' part because yeah, the Deceptions do got the High Guard being good at killing Quintessons too but. They're the Real Experts. (Are they salty? Naaaah they're not. Much. Kinda.)

they got so good at squishing the goddamn bugs and they're thrilled they can save Optimus the pain of figuring out their weak points through trial and error like they did. they're gonna make a pro out of their baby brother in no time.

and if they just so happen to know some of the Decepticons will be majorly pissed off at the fact OP is already on par with the best of what used to be the High Guard when he only has a fraction of their experience... well, happy coincidences, y'know?

and if they happen to teach Optimus how to crack open a Quintesson in just the right way to make some Decepticons see ghosts through him... that's between them and the people they're haunting :)
