i love the fact that in the game, bill is like a ghost of future. someone who joel could become if he continues pushing away the people around him and shutting down his feelings. but in the show, he’s someone who’s directly telling joel to care. to save and protect those that he loves. that’s his job.

I think the part that got me the most in tlou ep 3 was that even though there was already drugs in the wine, he poured more into Frank's. Frank wanted to die first in his husband's arms, and Bill loved him the way Frank wanted to, so he did it. He ensured that Frank would never see Bill's dead body but they still get to fall asleep in each other's arms.

Joel has officially lost all the people closest to him and all he has left is his brother who may or may not even be alive and some strange infected girl who a woman who was in love with him begged to take with him to find a cure to give her death meaning in her last moments

Joel then finds two people who he was closer to have left the world behind because of how much they love one another

And then he considers his daughter who saved in a cul-de-sac, drove out of the neighborhood through highways, woods, and crowded city roads trying to comfort her and keep her from harm. Carrying her away from infected whe she hurt her ankle in a crash and losing her trying to get her to safety wish and hoping his love would be enough to keep ger going

Now he has this girl he is responsible for while everyone who depends on love dies around him and he's terrified because he too feels the twinge of warmth and fondness from this spunky little teenager who talks back, frustrates him, and does whatever she wants. He starts to notice a familiar feeling that he only remembers from when Sarah fell asleep on his lap after bringing him his fixed watch that is now forever broken, stopped in place at the exact time he never wants to remember. Now this girl who sees his watch and how broken it is, is making him realize that he, like all those who have passed before him, is human and he isn't immune to the love that infected each of the people he lost...

So comes up with three rules:

Don't bring up Tess...ever.

Don't tell people about your condition.

You do what I say when I say it.

In other words:

Don't remember what I've lost

Don't put yourself in danger

Listen to me so I don't have to choose to save my life or yours
