look, Venus has waited a quarter of a century, she earned this

i think... what tickles me most about Venus after coming back to TMNT fandom via Rise, is that from what I can see (on tumblr), the kids love her. they love her and make versions of her in the series that came after the 90s. i look at their bios, some weren’t even born when Next Mutation was airing. (and as far as I can tell, Next Mutation didn’t really get much syndicated airtime if any) ...and they still love her. hurt me in my old little heartguts. it’s mostly my generation of tmnt fans who express distaste for her... but the new fans, they love her, they include her in their aus, they make a place for her in their childhood series. hoo h oo giv give me a moment..

if I could pop back into 1998 and tell little 13 year old snackugaki that Venus would be back, I would. all I had were Trini Kwan and Venus de Milo (not ONLY them, just for the purpose of this post) as a fighty, angry little girl. 

all my childhood idols who could fight were calm, level-headed characters who could just happen to throw a villain through a wall if they really needed to. if it wasn’t for them who knows where baby snacku fite meh! gaki would be today. going up against Rhonda Rousey for the championship belt idk, who can accurately estimate the magnitude of childhood influences, not this bitch

Made an 1987 Venus, and a 2012 Venus, so I’ve been long overdue to make a 2003 Venus! Tada~

In this interpretation, Venus wasn’t initially separated from her brothers. Instead, she was raised alongside them-up until the family went on the trip to Japan to return Hamato Yoshi’s ashes. The whole ordeal with the ninja tribunal happened around about the same, however at the end, while erasing the turtles memories, the tribunal saw Venus’s mystic potential and took her away to be trained by them, wiping her families memories of her as well.

Skip ahead a few years, and when Leo his sent away from is family-instead of the Ancient One, he meets her. Another turtle willing to help who feels so so familiar…

He was made for a fourth 1990s live-action movie but was shelved when the fourth movie died in production hell. He was then going to be used for the live-action series 'The Next Mutation', only to be replaced with Venus de Milo because the company who produced the show wouldn't give it the green light unless the fifth turtle was female. And recently he was going to appear in the TMNT IDW comics, only to get shelved a third time. The poor dude has been denied a chance to be a canon character three times. Give the guy a break and let him be an actual character. His design is too interesting to not use.

i know the tags are hateful and I would never have fit this next bit in them so:

the painful Wade-Giles translation (pinyin gang sends its regards) aside, the “měi” (with a caron) character was written with the hanzi for beautiful but (despite the different tones and most regular people don’t include accent marks when transcribing) “mei” could also be with an acute,”méi” 梅 plum.

Plum as in part of the 3 Friends of Winter (plum, pine, bamboo); plum as in a symbol of perseverance in the face of adversity, a common lunar new year motif also.

tl;dr she may not have many iterations but it’s starting and my baby deserves after a 25 year winter.

What if TMNT took place in São Paulo, Brazil instead of New York?

Welcome to my Brazilian au, I made this character sheet of Venus as a Hawksbill Sea Turtle.

I specifically choose this species cuz Venus de Milo is a greek statue that represents the goddess Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty and she basically rised from the ocean, so a sea turtle sounded right.

In this AU Venus was found by Tang Shen (Big Mama) and was raised alongside Miwa (Karai)

She's a extremely high ranked member of the foot because of Shen.

She have a very bubbly and girly personality, Venus was born without her arms and front flippers and she wears prosthetic arms.

She's Karai's little sister

I love all the different ways people have run with the prompt 'Venus de Milo is the turtles' oldest sister' and just wanted to pay homage to my favorite of this specific prompt from each of the iterations I've seen more than the occasional clip of. From left to right we have: 2k12!Venus from the story Atlas by dominoeffect on AO3 and @sodaspons on tumblr Rise!Venus by @neonross on tumblr (I'm just now realizing I forgot to draw the braid whoops) 2k3! Venus by athenoot on twitter/ X (who also has wonderful versions of Venus from Rise, Mutant Mayhem, etc) These three in particular are some of my favorite examples for this prompt because, despite being the same character filling the same role, all of them present themselves and fill that role very differently. Despite all of them have an age gap that is significant and somewhere around 5 years to my understanding, the level of responsibility they put on themselves varies from 12!Vee who's basically their mom to Rise!Vee who's a cool older sister but on par with early Splinter in that regard. 03!Vee is a paragon of a collected leader, even more so than canon Leo, as well as a wise and caring older sister who takes interest in her brothers' hobbies. The other two meanwhile are flawed as they either put their needs on the backburner or just hide important secrets from their brothers. Aesthetically, I love their differences as none of them have the same colored bandana (with Rise being light blue/cyan and 2k3 being teal) nor the same weapon even though all acknowledge the tensan canon!Venus has in some way. 12 and 3 were both the pets of Hamato Yoshi before mutation but Rise isn't even a mutant it's so cool how their universes have influenced them! They're just all so cool ok!! Please check them out if you haven't their stories/ comics are all chalk full of delightful family moments.
