The Best Outdoor Activities for Toddlers to Enjoy Nature
Are you looking for some fun and engaging outdoor activities that will keep your toddler entertained and help them connect with nature? Spending time outside is not only beneficial for a child’s physical health but also contributes to their mental and emotional well-being. In this blog post, we will explore some of the best outdoor activities for toddlers to enjoy and learn from.
1. Nature Scavenger Hunt
One of the most exciting outdoor activities for toddlers is a nature scavenger hunt. This activity involves creating a list of items for your child to find in nature, such as leaves, rocks, flowers, or insects. You can go on a nature walk with your toddler and encourage them to search for these items. This activity not only helps toddlers to develop their observation skills but also teaches them about the natural world around them.
2. Water Play
Water play is another fantastic outdoor activity for toddlers, especially on a hot day. You can set up a small water table in your backyard or take your toddler to a local splash pad or beach. Let your child splash, pour, and explore in the water, which can be both fun and educational for them. Water play helps toddlers to improve their hand-eye coordination and sensory skills.
3. Bubble Fun
Blowing bubbles is a classic outdoor activity that toddlers absolutely love. You can use a bubble wand or machine to create bubbles of various sizes and shapes for your little one to chase and pop. This activity helps to enhance toddlers’ visual tracking skills and hand-eye coordination. Plus, it’s a simple and inexpensive way to keep your child entertained outdoors.
4. Sensory Garden
Creating a sensory garden is a wonderful outdoor activity for toddlers to engage with nature using their five senses. You can plant different flowers, herbs, and vegetables in your garden that have various textures, scents, and colors for your child to explore. Encourage your toddler to touch, smell, and even taste the different plants (with supervision) to stimulate their senses and curiosity.
5. Nature Art
Let your toddler unleash their creativity by engaging in nature art activities. Collect natural materials such as twigs, leaves, flowers, and rocks during a nature walk, and then use them to create beautiful artwork. Your child can make nature collages, paint with natural dyes, or even build sculptures with the found objects. Nature art not only encourages toddlers to express themselves creatively but also fosters a deeper connection with the environment.
6. Playgrounds and Parks
Taking your toddler to a local playground or park is a great way for them to burn off energy, socialize with other children, and develop their motor skills. From swings and slides to climbing structures and sandboxes, playgrounds offer a wide range of activities for toddlers to explore and enjoy. Just make sure to supervise your child closely and ensure their safety while playing.
7. Animal Watching
If your toddler is interested in animals, going on a nature walk to observe wildlife can be a fun and educational experience. You can visit a local zoo, aquarium, or nature reserve to see a variety of animals up close. Alternatively, you can simply spend time birdwatching in your backyard or neighborhood park. Watching animals in their natural habitat can spark your child’s curiosity about the natural world and foster a love for wildlife.
By engaging in these outdoor activities, toddlers can develop their cognitive, physical, and social skills while forming a deeper connection with the natural world. Remember to prioritize safety and supervision during these activities to ensure that your child has a positive and enjoyable outdoor experience. Choose Safe & Exciting Playground Slides | Kidzlet
Tumblr media
Playground Slide are a quintessential part of childhood. That exhilarating rush of zooming down a shiny, curvy path is pure joy for kids of all ages. But with so many slide options available, choosing the right one for your playground can feel overwhelming.
Here at Kidzlet Play Structures Pvt. Ltd., Delhi’s leading manufacturer of Children Outdoor Playing Equipment, we understand the importance of creating a fun and engaging play environment. This article will guide you through the exciting world of playground slides, helping you select the perfect one for your space and target age group.
Let's Slide into the Fun!
Here are some key factors to consider when selecting playground slides:
Age and Ability: Younger children (toddlers and preschoolers) require shorter, gentler slides with easy-to-climb stairs or ramps. For older kids, taller spiral slides or wave slides can add a thrill factor. Consider the range of ages that will be using the playground and choose slides that cater to different abilities.
Slide Material: Metal slides offer a classic, fast ride. However, they can get hot in the sun and may not be ideal for younger children. Plastic slides are a versatile option, offering smooth, cool surfaces in a variety of shapes and sizes. Kidzlet Play Structures uses high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic, known for its durability and UV resistance, ensuring long-lasting fun under the sun.
Slide Design: There's a slide design for every kind of adventurer! Straight slides offer a simple, fast descent. Wave slides add twists and turns for extra excitement. Spiral slides provide a thrilling, 360-degree experience. Consider the play value you want to create and choose slides that will spark imagination.
Choosing the Right Slide for Your Needs
Beyond the type of Outdoor Playground Slide, consider these factors when making your selection:
Age and Ability: Toddlers will do best with gentle slopes and easy-to-climb ladders. For older children, you can introduce more challenging climbs and steeper descents.
Space Availability: Measure your play area carefully to ensure the slide fits comfortably and allows for a safe landing zone.
Material: Choose slides made from high-quality, durable materials like HDPE plastic that can withstand constant use and harsh weather conditions. Kidzlet Play Structures prioritizes safety and uses top-of-the-line materials in all our products.
Theming: Consider incorporating the slide into your overall playground theme. We offer a variety of colors and designs to match your existing equipment or create a brand new look.
Safety First: Essential Considerations
Safety is paramount on any playground. When selecting a slide, prioritize these aspects:
Guardrails: Slides for younger children should have sturdy guardrails along the climbing ladder to prevent falls.
Rounded Edges: Look for slides with smooth, rounded edges to minimize the risk of scrapes. Kidzlet Play Structures ensures all our slides meet stringent safety standards.
Landing Zone: The landing zone at the bottom of the slide should be clear and have a soft, shock-absorbing surface like mulch or rubber playground tiles.
Kidzlet Play Structures: Your Partner in Playground Fun

You quickly crawled into the colorful jungle gym of bars and blasted off, already having taken off your shoes prior.
You could hear the faint giggles coming from Sun as he scaled the bars, picking up speed.
"Oh, Sunshine! My precious sneaky little Sunshine! Where are you? Are we playing Hide and Seek now? Such a good game! Oh, I love this game! "
You quickly climbed through a tube just a tad bit smaller than you were and just barely slipped through to the other side. I mean, you weren't very surprised to have barely fit through; this whole play area was made for toddlers and kids from 2/3 to 11.
You spotted a slide near the left and went for it, jumping into it right before Sun caught you.
You giggled as you slid down the colorful slide, eventually reaching the end and running back off into the jungle gym.
"Oh Sunshine, I didn't realize we were playing tag now!" Sun said loud and clear.
You quickly ducked down once you were near the center of the jungle gym. The only thing you could see was lines of punching bags scattered for kids to weave through, many different types of things to hide behind, random wall structures; mesh, wobbly ropes for kids to climb on, and bars along bars as far as the eye could see. There were so many colors, meshing together to create a beautifully built play structure.
But you had no time to waste!
You quickly went on as you heard Sun getting closer, going through a frenzy of tubes.
But this particular one was a bit... different.
Well, you were in the toddler's section of the play structure. Which was the reason you kind of got stuck.
You struggled as you tried to cram yourself through the rest of the tube, but your hips were too wide to fit through.
"Ah, crap!" You whisper-yelled to yourself, mentally cursing.
I mean, how dumb could you be? This was a kids' play area, for crying out loud! Your train of thought was put on hold as you heard the mechanical whirring and clicking of Sun approaching, him giggling as he did so.
You freaked out and started flailing around, even more, wiggling and trying to jam yourself through. It's safe to say you only got yourself snuggly stuck.
"There you are, my little Sunbeam—Ah," he soon came to a halt upon seeing your situation.
You were perfectly wedged inside a rainbow-colored tube, the lower half of your body—starting at your hips—"hanging out" while the rest of you was stuck inside the tube, knees to the ground, wiggling your ass around.
Your wiggling only intensified as he quieted down, worried about what was happening.
"S-Sunny! I, uh, got stuck. I guess I—
You nervously chucked between your sentence,
—underestimated the size of the um, tube..." You no longer heard him, the tube muffling any noise that dared to spill out.
"Oh! Right, um, I'm so sorry about that Sunbeam! I forgot to mention the sizes… of the tubes.."
"Sun?"
"Hm? Yes, Darling?" You felt butterflies throughout your stomach at the nickname and the way his voice dipped just the tiniest bit. He sounded distracted.
"I—I'm stuck. Can you help me out a bit?" You wiggled your hips a bit, reminding him.
"Oh, yes! I'm so, so sorry Sunshine! I'll get you out of there in no time, here let me just—" voice returning to its usual normal tone, he pondered over where to place his hands.
You let out a tiny yelp as you felt him place his hands on your ass, hoping he didn't notice as he started trying to cram you through to the other side of the tube.
Safe to say it only made it worse.
Not only did he not manage to get you out but he somehow managed to get your hips stuck in a way where your butt is now pointing upwards as you arched your back like a cat in order to stay comfortable.
"—Well, that didn't... how about I… no wait.. okay maybe like…" you could only hear him mumble to himself, the tube muffling the majority of it.
"Oh, I have an idea!"
"Okay… shoot." You said hesitantly.
"Well, we need as much room as we can get to get you out! So, we can take off your pants! Works, right! Take them off, more room to work with!" Sun explained.
"What?”
"W—well, it's just an idea…" You could practically see him wilting like a sunflower.
"W—well… I,"
You sighed,
"I guess if it gets me unstuck…"
You squeaked as you felt his hands land on the back of your thighs and travel up your butt to your hips, pulling your pants down by the seams and making sure your underwear stayed in place.
It just now dawned on you that you can't use your arms.
"Ugh! This is so stupid!" You felt your face burn red as it spread across your cheeks like wildfire, wiggling your hips and trying to squeeze through now that your pants were off.
"W-wait! Give me a second! W— hold on!"
‘Are you fucking stupid?’ Those are the exact words that ran through your head.
Because of the embarrassment of only being in underwear with your ass poking out, you decided rushing would be the best option.
Amid your rush, Sun tried to help you out. Placing his hands on either ass cheek and trying to push.
Only if you had stayed still.
Because of your wiggling, his hand slipped, and he ended up caressing your core.
"A—ah!" You sharply gasped as you bucked your hips at the sensation.
You immediately stilled in your spot; eyes blown wide.
shit.
Everything went quiet.
"…Sun..?" No response.
You suddenly felt his hands softly land on your thighs, wrapping around them as he slowly inched closer to your ass.
You sharply inhaled as you felt his hands trail upwards onto your ass, slipping a finger underneath the hem of your underwear and playing with it.
"Tell me,”
His voice was deeper than you've ever heard before, colder,
"What are those sounds? Hm?"
You whimpered at his tone.
"There you go again. Those sounds, what do they mean? They make me feel things. I think I like them."
"But most of all, they make me want to just..." He grabbed a handful of your ass, squeezing it hard as you yelped.
"Tear you apart. 'Make me want to make you make more noises."
Butterflies.
He let go.
Wait, what?
You heard shuffling as he backed away, suddenly missing his touch.
"…"
"I'm so, so so sorry about that Sunshine! I have no idea what came over me! Now, let's get you out of that tube!" How could he revert to normal, just like that? Like he didn't just turn you completely on?
"..S—Sun…"
"Yes, Starshine?" Sickly sweet.
"I, uh… N-never mind!" What were you thinking!?
How could you think about that?
Well…
Maybe,
It's not such a bad thought...
"Alrighty then! Let's get you out of here." He placed his hands on your ass once more, and the second he did, you jerked your hips, intentionally.
I mean, it's one thing if you tell him.. but it's another if it's 'accidental'.
His hand slipped once more and landed in the same spot as last time. Only this time it was much firmer than before.
You sharply grinded against his fingers as you let tiny sounds of contempt slip past your lips, basking in the feeling of the slick metal.
Slick?
Shit.
You were wet.
And it only took you this long to realize that he hadn't moved his fingers, holding them firmly in place against your wet undies as you grounded on him.
"S-shit, Sun," you called out his name at the feeling, grinding even harder against his fingers.
"Please, I need you to— Ah!" You cut yourself off as he started to rub circles, letting your head fall onto the side of the tube wall.
And the rest is history. ;)
I LOVE sunny and I’ve been working on this story for a while but just never finished it 😅, ANYWAYS, I hope you guys enjoyed this story as much as I did <3.

Kisses and Cocoa
pairing: aziracrow (or ineffable wives) / fem!child!reader
requested? no but i do have requests to do djsiggfb
synopsis: just a little down time in the snow with our favorite angel and demon, and their baby girl
warning(s): fem!reader, it’s the wives cuz honestly i love them and they deserve more, a little blood, reader is like, 5
a/n: i gotta do those requests jdishrv so know that i’ve got a peter parker x reader in the works, and a crowley x platonic!reader; school’s overwhelming so
---------------
Aziraphale was awoken by your childish excitement. She blinked the sleep out of her eyes, sitting up and subconsciously carding her fingers through her partner’s vibrant ginger hair.
“Mmm....five more minutes, Angel. It’s cold.”
Crowley snuggled further into her lover’s chest, kissing her collarbone. Aziraphale yawned, and started counting down, waiting for you to burst through the door.
“And 3, 2, 1--”
“Mum! Mummy, snow! There’s snow!” You climbed up on the bed, your chubby toddler hands grasping the blankets excitedly. Crowley kissed her teeth, sitting up. “Good morning, Giggles. How’d you sleep?” She pecked your forehead, and sat you in her lap. “Fine, mummy, but there’s snow!” You wiggled out of her grasp, and pressed your face up to the cold, foggy window, your eyes full of wonder.
Aziraphale set her feet on the floor, and gasped softly, the cold shocking her. “Good heavens, it’s freezing!” You barely registered your mummy’s voice, now drawing in the fog of the window and humming to yourself. Aziraphale felt the overwhelming love she had for you bubble up into her throat, and she quickly wiped at her eyes.
Crowley watched her with an amused smile gracing her lips. She’d never thought she’d get to have days like this with the angel, curled up in bed, watching their daughter grow up, and experience her first snow.
She loved Aziraphale, so damned much it nearly made her double over. And she loved you, with your wide [e/c] eyes and bubbly laughter (thus why they called you ‘Giggles’), and your love of cookies and Scooby Doo. She had her little family. She was, dare she say, grateful for you two everyday.
She was taken out of her little reverie by Aziraphale leaving a kiss on her cheek. “I’m going to brush my teeth, and help [Name] make up her bed and get ready for the day. Would you be so kind as to make breakfast?”
“Of course, Angel. Any requests?”
You turned and faced your moms, a wide smile gracing your features. “Can we have [pick a breakfast food]?” Crowley winked, saying, “Are angels real?”
“Yes! Thank you, mum!”
She chuckled, watching you tug on Aziraphale’s robe sleeve as you both walked out.
Aziraphale enjoyed helping you get ready; It was one of those domestic activities that she’d miss as you got older. She picked out a cream colored shirt with seafoam green accents, and a pair of black overalls, humming softly along to the children’s program on the television (some magical ‘girl power!’ type cartoon that she also enjoyed; it was called Lollipop? No, LoliRock. She found it quite entertaining.)
You flitted into the room, allowing Aziraphale to help you into the clothes, and talked about the dream you’d had (something about the Cars franchise and unicorns battling to the death over the Eiffel Tower), adding in little ‘oohs’ and ‘oh, dear!’s to indicate she was listening.
Once you were dressed and your hair was done, she had you wait downstairs in the living room of their cottage, letting Crowley entertain you with stories about mythical beings and the stars. Crowley was flipping a pancake when she sat next to you at the table, placing a napkin in your lap.
She set a plate of food in front of you, smiling as you stared out the window, singing about how you’d like to go outside and build a snowman. “Do you want to go outside, Giggles?”
You nodded excitedly, practically bouncing in your seat. “Can we? I really want to!” Aziraphale bobbed her head in agreement, putting the juice Crowley poured for you on your placemat, and taking her cup of Earl Gray out of her hands. “Yes, we can, but eat first.” You went to work, not noticing the small smiles and brief touches that your mothers shared across the table.
You finished your juice, and hopped out of your seat, impatiently waiting for one of your moms to finish. “C’mon, we’re busting daytime!” Crowley threw her head back, a raucous laugh leaving her mouth. “D’you mean burning  daylight, [Name]?”
“Oh, yeah,” You responded, giggling.
Crowley stood, and watched you run ahead to your room, screaming, “SNOW SNOW SNOW!” as you went along. She turned to Aziraphale, wiping tears from her eyes. “Busting daytime, that’s funny.” Aziraphale looked at her partner lovingly. “Go on, then. She’ll need help getting into her snow gear.” She said, amusement laced in her words. Crowley sauntered down the hall, whistling the tune of Lazing On a Sunday Afternoon.
You were already mostly undressed when she got to you, hastily tugging on your thermal underwear. “Oh, you’re quick,” She quipped as she picked up the clothes you discarded and placing them on the bed. “You know Mummy doesn’t like you leaving your clothes everywhere.”
“I know, but you said once or twice it’s okay.”
Crowley, looked over at the toys lining your shelves, raising a brow at the Lightning McQueen car, before going to help you button up your snow pants. “Fair enough; You’ve got to have a smidge of demonic influence, don’t you, [Name]?”
You giggled, letting her pull a jumper over your head, and put on your bubble coat. “Damned zipper,” She muttered, eyes narrowed in concentration. She eventually got it and then moved on to put your hat on your head, and wrap a scarf around your neck. You stopped her as she picked up your gloves, saying, “I can do it, Mum! Look!”
She watched, pride glinting in her golden eyes as you successfully pulled the fingers of the gloves over your fingers. “That’s my girl, [Name]!” You let her put on the boots, though, saying, “I can’t do the boots, can you help?” She nodded, and did them for you, then letting you run off to find Aziraphale. Her attention then drifted to the toys again, and she fixed them to go in order of franchise then size. “Gosh, you really like Cars,” She mumbled.
Aziraphale had just gotten her own boots on, and was pulling on her hat as you hopped toward her. “Ready!” She picked you up, walking you to the front of the house, setting you in the snow. You fell back, making a snow angel and laughing. “Look, Mummy! It’s you!”
                                             ---------------
A while later, Crowley came up behind Aziraphale, examining the snow angel from earlier, and a smiley face you made by walking in circles. “Wow, kiddo, that’s really good!” She then held out a carrot, and the buttons she’d picked up, saying, “I thought we wanted to build a snowman, Giggles?” You got to work, rolling the base and dodging snowballs from Crowley. Aziraphale worked on the midsection, snapping her fingers discreetly.
You put the snowman’s head on, and Crowley lifted you so you could stick the nose in. Aziraphale stuck on the eyes, and put a bowtie on the divide between it’s head and middle. Crowley snapped a leather jacket on it, and you put some mittens on it’s “hands”. Then you all admired your handiwork.
“They’re perfect,” Crowley confirmed, nodding her head. Aziraphale hummed in agreement. “Now what?”
“I saw a tutorial on how to build snow forts. We can try it?”
Crowley looked around, before snapping her fingers and watching an igloo build itself. Aziraphale made sure you didn’t get hit by ice blocks as the structure formed.
You squealed, and went into the fort, laughing. Your laugh however, was cut off by a sneeze. Aziraphale perked up, brows furrowed. “Maybe we should head in,” She muttered, Crowley agreeing and gathering you up in her arms. “C’mon then, in we go.”
“But--”
“You’re freezing, kiddo. We can go make hot chocolate, watch a movie.”
That quietted your protest, and you burrowed your face in your Mum’s neck, your time outside wearing you out.
Aziraphale opened the door, making sure the heat was up, before shedding her winter gear. She took you out of Crowley’s arms, letting her take hers off, then the both of them got to work on you.
You let them strip you of the wet clothes, and put a towel on your shivering form. “C’mon, let’s get you into a warm bath, then we can watch [favorite kid movie].” Aziraphale cooed, as your head lolled. “Dearest you get the bath going, I’ll get the cocoa.”
Crowley nodded. “Alright, Angel.” She made her way to the bathroom, snapping her fingers so that the tub filled with warm water. “Step in for me, Giggles.” You did so, and Crowley quickly bathed you, humming Queen’s greatest hits, chuckling when you tried to join in with her.
You finished up, and she wrapped you in your fluffy Winnie the Pooh hooded towel. (it was Tigger; Since you happened to hop around like him often, when Aziraphale saw it, she immediately thought of you, so she bought it.)
She put you together, and carried you to the living room, where Aziraphale was putting a tray of cocoa and cookies on the coffee table. “Oh, dear, you look adorable, [Name]! I love your Stitch onesie.” You made grabby hands at your Mummy, and she smiled sweetly, taking you into her arms and kissing your cheek.
“My little [Name]. My dearest,” She muttered into your head, taking in the scent of your body wash and your natural scent. You reveled in the affection, mumbling, “I’m not little.” Crowley sat down, patting the seat next to her. “Of course not. You’re our big girl, [Name].” You bobbed your head, content with that.
Crowley put on your movie, putting an arm around the back of the couch. Aziraphale snuggled into her side. As you slowly drifted off, Crowley kissed Aziraphale’s lips softly, “I love you, Angel.”
“I love you more, my dear.”

Loki felt awfully bad for crushing his poor mother’s heart but… he was hardly taking care of himself. What in gods’ names made them think he could take this on?
And then Loki had a second, much scarier thought:
What would happen if he didn’t?
Thor could get sent to a littles home alone.
His mother could get hurt.
She could die.
He could get cut out of the family.
He could get cut off from his family’s money.
He could finally get fired from the company.
And then what would happen? He’d be on an even worse path than he was now.
But… maybe there was something worse on this end. Maybe Thor would be too much. Maybe this would be a fate worse than death.
There was only one way to test that theory.
Loki swallowed his pride, put on a happy face, and trudged back upstairs to Odin’s office.
“Loki!” Thor spit out his pacifier and set down his crayons with a thunk onto the coloring book he was working on to run up and hug his brother. “Loki, um daddy hep colow and on big business call so be real quiet, kay?”
Loki snickered at the loud way Thor spoke despite his words, as Odin shooed them out of the office room and held a finger to his lips.
Once the door was shut, Loki held his brother’s hand. “So do I get a tour of your playroom, now, like you promised?” he asked.
“Uh-huh!”
Thor led him down one of the flights of stairs to a big room that the original designers had probably intended to be either another office, or perhaps a bar.
When Loki had lived there, it had been both.
It was much larger than Odin’s current office, but in those previous years, before internet conferencing had become mainstream, that extra space had been necessary for meetings and nights with close friends when there were three or four kids in the house.
Now, it was unrecognizable to Loki in the most magnificent way.
And the best part was that he could immediately tell almost everything he needed to know about Thor’s headspace from looking at it.
The cabinets which had once lined the south wall, the first thing Thor pointed out, had been entirely ripped out and replaced with a wooden play kitchenette, and plenty of furniture for games of house, as well as a playstand made for Thor’s size. Loki was shocked at the sheer amount of baby-doll furniture Thor kept-- it covered an entire corner of the massive room.
“Dis ‘s Mjollnir. He’s my dolly.” The little took a coiled, 6 foot long, slightly faded, red snake plush out of the white play highchair and showed it to Loki, who recognized it from when he was a child, too. Thor kept it cradled in his arms as if it were a baby as he moved onto the next section of the room.
Loki made a mental note that Thor did, in fact, have a proper doll. A fabric one, custom-made to look like him, too, but he did not seem to care, and preferred using the snake instead.
In many pieces of doll furniture, where a doll’s legs would’ve gone through different holes, like on the highchair and baby carrier, there was a stretchy, mesh pouch so the snake didn’t fall through as replacement.
On the back wall, the one furthest to Loki but adjacent to the pretend-play stuff, there was a good sized indoor play structure for the active little, with a slide, a swing, and plenty of vinyl mats and soft, padded shapes for tumbling.
Thor made sure to demonstrate how impressive it all was for Loki by climbing, sliding, falling, and trying to play hide-and-seek in the structure.
Loki’s eyes scanned over to his left as Thor got up and bounced over there. There was a toy organizer, absolutely filled to the brim with different, toddler and preschool friendly items, and then a lovely train table with a large junction of Thomas-The-Tank-Engine toys.
Loki remembered hearing about when Thor had gotten the impressive table and how excited Odin had been about it. Thor had played with it every time they went to the toy store and begged for it, and then apparently hadn’t touched it since that Christmas morning.
Frigga had laughed and laughed about the whole thing. There were a couple things she spent good money on when it came to Thor: The playground, the things in his bedroom, and the kitchenette, but everything else had been cheap. Money was no object to them, but there were plenty of places in Thor’s toy collection when the cheap had greatly outdone the expensive. Just like in the case of the doll and the train set.
Loki quite liked the next part of the room, not only because it was near the end of his tour, but because it was a massive, cushioned, pile of pillows and blankets in front of a big tv in the hollowed center of a built-in wall bookshelf, filled with movies, games, and more bins of toys like Duplo and wooden building blocks.
“This my timeout spot,” Thor said, a little less enthusiastically, pointing at the final corner of the room. It was also covered with pillows and plush animals and blankets, but surrounded by a large princess canopy that hung from the ceiling and could surround a bed.
“This? Really? This is your timeout spot?” Loki didn’t mean to be rude, but seriously? Make this lovely space a spot for punishment?
Thor nodded.
“Can’t be, this is a lovely reading nook.”
“No id isn’t! Silly bubba!” Thor chuckled.
“Oh, but it is! Isn’t it just the prettiest?” Loki asked, twirling the mosquito netting in his fingers and examining the crown of it before sitting down inside. “Pick out a story and come sit with me, and I’ll read it to you.” Loki patted a spot next to him, but instead, Thor brought him a story and then sat right in his lap. No wonder mother could no longer care for him with her fragile bones, Loki thought as he pretended the weight didn't bother him.
He put an arm around Thor's midsection and held the picture book awkwardly in one outstretched hand, refusing to sit up straighter so he could tuck his head over his brother's shoulder. Instead, he chose to attempt to decipher the words from an almost uncomfortable distance, as Thor had chosen one of those story books that begins as a simple sentence and adds more and more every single page to make one massive tongue twister for the adult reading at the end. It didn't help much that the story was entirely in Norwegian. But what did he expect? It was the language of the country and the language of family.
“Thor, do you speak English?” Loki asked when he had closed the book. He remembered Thor learning it in elementary and middle school, but had he retained it? He’d need it if he was coming home with Loki.
Thor nodded. “Mhm!” To prove himself, he spoke English for the first time that Loki had ever heard (aside from his “hello”s of course), “Teach n’ school! N’ with daddy,” he nodded. His English was about on the same level as his Norwegian: Generally about what you’d expect from a three year old, with mix-matched tenses, off pronunciations, a lisp which seemed to come and go when he spoke too fast, and cadence that sometimes slurred together to make a two-to-three word sentence sound like one big word, and with some missing or misplaced articles.
“That’s very impressive,” Loki replied. “Daddy teaches you?”
“Yeah. I listen. Good listena.”
“You’re a very good listener from what I’ve seen.”
Thor got up after that and walked away to his toys, thinking the conversation over.
“Where are you going?” Loki asked, following him and putting the book away, while he was at it.
“Makin’ lunch,” Thor said, as he opened and shut the wooden doors in his play kitchen, switching back to his native tongue. “Sit!” he commanded Loki.
There was no dining table in Thor’s pretend-play area, so Loki sat on the ground, crisscrossed, while Thor took care of the toy snake and made his brother some lunch out of fake, wooden fruits and vegetables, which Loki graciously accepted and set on the floor at his feet.
“So is ‘house’ your favorite game?” Loki asked as he set the plate aside.
“Yeah cuz’ jus like mumma.”
“I don’t remember mother ever cooking.”
“Jus like a mumma,” Thor corrected himself.
Loki nodded. Thor was imitating the image of mothers he had seen in storybooks and on television. “You don’t want to be like daddy?”
“No. Daddy’s boring.”
“Daddy’s boring? With all his office work?”
“Mhm.”
“You don’t want to be the rich businessman, going to work in an office everyday to provide for the family?” Loki asked in his most rehearsed, slightly mocking tone. Mimicking the things Odin had told him when he had first gotten his job and moved to the states.
Thor caught on and shook his head with a grin.
“Neither do I,” Loki whispered like this was a big secret. Maybe he could get along with this little better than he thought.
Around that time, maybe a few minutes later, as Loki continued to observe his brother’s play and ask plenty of questions, Frigga knocked on the door and poked her head inside.
“Are we ready for naptime?” she asked.
Loki looked at his brother, currently putting Mjolnir the snake down in the doll cradle.
Thor then looked rather sadly at his mother, and shook his head.
“He doesn’t seem all that tired to me,” Loki commented. “Do you think we could let him forgo? Just for today so he can spend some time with his cool big brother who never visits?”
“Yah! Bi’ bubba stay,” Thor agreed.
Frigga gave her sons a severe look, but Loki was too busy being pleased with the reputation he was earning as the admired and cool older brother. “Well, if he misses his nap now, then we’ll need to move bedtime up an hour. How does 6:30 sound?” She asked. “Right after dinner so you can go night-night with a full tummy?”
This tactic was incredibly effective. Thor’s eyes widened and he shook his head.
“Well, it’s that or a nap now, so you choose.”
The option proved too much for the little one, and Thor began to go red and cry.
Loki had not seen his brother have a tantrum in quite a long time, so when the little began to yell and fuss, he couldn’t help but be at least a bit surprised.
Thor threw himself onto the floor and thrashed defensively. The display could’ve been comical if Loki was not stuck in the center of it.
“...Is this common?” he whispered to his mother.
“We’re working on it,” she replied, seemingly unphased.
“Thor,” she spoke in a calm voice, and getting, in Loki’s opinion, dangerously close to the little. “Why are we angry? Or maybe we’re sad? Why do we feel like that?”
Thor spoke in a yell, muddled by snot and tears and heavy, frustrated, and exhausted breaths. “Wanna pway wit’ Loki!” Tears kept coming after that, but he was slightly softer.
Loki couldn’t help but feel a little bit honored and took a second to mull it over before stepping over and crouching down like his mother was. “I’ll be right here to keep playing after your nap, brother,” he said in a similarly calm tone to Frigga. “It’s just like when I stepped away and left you with daddy, right? You can step away and leave me with mother. I know you’ll come back for me.”
Thor nodded and began to still, setting his thumb in his mouth in a desperate attempt to self soothe, which Frigga let him have as Loki helped the both of them up.
“Darling, before we get you all cozy, do you need to use the potty?” she asked.
 Thor shook his head.
“Can I check?”
Another shake of the head, a little more anxiously this time.
“I can step out if that makes it more comfortable,” Loki quickly added.
“Actually, can you set out the changing supplies in his room for me when you go? Did Thor show you where they were? Next to the dresser?”
“He did.”
Thor whined, embarrassed by his mother as she wiggled his pants down to check on his pull-up, and at that moment, to spare his brother’s dignity, Loki left to find that bag of changing supplies and laid them out for his mother and Thor, before exiting the room, grabbing one of the thick books out of his own chambers, and finding a cozy spot in one of the many sitting rooms to pass a few chapters by him.

Selecting the perfect play equipment for your children can be an exciting yet challenging task. With an abundance of options available, it's crucial to make a choice that not only keeps your child entertained but also promotes their physical, mental, and social development. This comprehensive guide will help you navigate the world of Childrens outdoor play equipment, ensuring that you make an informed decision that benefits both your child and your family.
Chapter 1: Understanding the Importance of Play
Before delving into the specifics of play equipment, it's essential to recognize the critical role that play plays in a child's development. Play is not just a pastime; it's a fundamental part of a child's learning process. It enhances cognitive, emotional, and physical development, fosters creativity, and teaches valuable social skills.
Chapter 2: Assessing Your Child's Needs and Interests
The first step in choosing the perfect play equipment is to consider your child's age, interests, and developmental stage. A toddler will have different needs than a school-age child. Ask yourself:
What are my child's favorite activities?
Do they prefer active play or imaginative play?
How much space do I have for play equipment?
Are there specific skills I want my child to develop through play?
By answering these questions, you can begin to narrow down your options and select equipment that suits your child's unique needs and preferences.
Chapter 3: Types of Children's Play Equipment
Swing Sets:
Swing sets are classic and beloved by children of all ages.
They promote physical activity and coordination.
Look for durable, weather-resistant materials for longevity.
Playhouses:
Playhouses encourage imaginative play and social interaction.
Consider the size of your backyard when choosing a playhouse.
Opt for easy-to-clean and safe materials.
Climbing Structures:
Climbing structures enhance motor skills and confidence.
Ensure that climbing equipment is age-appropriate and safe.
Look for non-slip surfaces and sturdy handholds.
Slides:
Slides are thrilling and great for physical activity.
Safety is paramount; check for secure handrails and sturdy construction.
Consider the slide's height and design for your child's age.
Sand and Water Play:
Sand and water play tables stimulate sensory exploration.
Look for tables with covers to protect against weather and debris.
Provide a variety of toys and accessories for endless creativity.
Chapter 4: Safety First
When choosing play equipment, safety should be your top priority. Here are some safety considerations:
Ensure that the equipment meets safety standards and certifications.
Check for sharp edges, exposed screws, or any potential hazards.
Make sure there are no small parts that could pose a choking hazard.
Inspect the play area regularly for wear and tear.
Provide adequate supervision, especially for younger children.
Chapter 5: Space and Placement
Consider the available space in your backyard or play area. Measure the area where you plan to install the equipment and ensure there is enough room for safe play. Leave adequate space around the equipment to prevent accidents and collisions. Additionally, think about the ground surface; soft, impact-absorbing materials like rubber mulch or artificial turf are ideal for safety.
Chapter 6: Budgeting for Play Equipment
Play equipment comes in a wide range of prices. Set a budget that aligns with your financial situation and stick to it. Keep in mind that quality and safety should not be compromised for cost savings. Sometimes investing a bit more upfront can save you money in the long run by avoiding replacements or repairs.
Chapter 7: Maintenance and Durability
Quality and durability are key factors when choosing play equipment. You want equipment that can withstand the elements and the wear and tear of active play. Look for products made from durable materials like powder-coated metal, high-density polyethylene, or cedar wood. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning and inspections, will prolong the lifespan of the equipment.
Chapter 8: Involving Your Child in the Decision
To ensure your child's enthusiasm and engagement with the play equipment, involve them in the decision-making process. Show them different options and discuss their preferences. This not only empowers your child but also encourages responsibility and ownership of the play area.
Chapter 9: Assembling and Installing
If you're not confident in your DIY skills, consider professional installation. Proper assembly is crucial for safety. Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully, and if you have any doubts, seek expert assistance.
Chapter 10: Incorporating Play into Daily Life
Once your play equipment is in place, make playtime a part of your daily routine. Encourage your child to explore, create, and learn through play. It's an opportunity for them to develop physical skills, build friendships, and cherish unforgettable childhood memories.
Conclusion
Choosing the perfect children's play equipment is a significant decision that can positively impact your child's development and happiness. By understanding your child's needs, prioritizing safety, and considering various equipment options, you can create a play area that provides endless joy and enriching experiences for your child. Remember that play is not just a way to pass the time; it's a valuable investment in your child's growth and well-being.
