What would it take to let go?

What would it take to let go? What if what you have known for years didn’t change from someone living, or someone who has already passed? How would you accept knowing, if a parent hadn’t changed his or her opinion, then what?

So, what would it take? Courage, truth, understanding. Desperate for change, a new life, away from a dysfunctional family.  It takes a lot to change mental and emotional patterns, things we’ve always done. We hang on, we’re afraid to let go.

We need to let go. Anything that has run its course, or served its purpose, we must walk away from. The problem is that we don’t always know how. We know what we know. Yes, the unknown is scarier, the known feels familiar, bizarrely more comforting and we hang on.

We see the truth with our reflection staring back at us, but still we’re reluctant, hesitant to let go of what we know, what we’ve always known. We form attachments. Everything changes when you let go, you unburden yourself; let go, let things be.

A new life brings a sense of relief, a sense of achievement, coming through the other end we’re better for it. A life to live, a life to grow, where you have control and where you get to make your own decisions on how you want to live.

Last Monday night I just felt so Pathetic just because I want a person back in my life but thinking of it, I should do and think otherwise. I should not ponder with the “what ifs” because there no ifs if I chose and made him stay.

Living your life to it’s fullest is always moving forward and looking forward towards future. 

Going back and moving backwards will hinder the concept of your “Living the life to it’s fullest”. 

When you left something/someone, never get it/him/her back. Because things will never be the same. Second chances really means change the course of your life, not going back to the faults and memories of the past.

When it’s time to let go

There is nothing wrong with you caring, but expecting others to care because you care, isn’t something always afforded to you.

You’ll know when it’s time not to care and it’s time to let go, when:

The time and energy you’re putting in isn’t reciprocated;

You’re growing apart;

You’re trying too hard to make the relationship work;

Friends or family stop making you a better version of yourself;

When you can’t count on the other person;

When you’re being ignored;

When you’re dealing with abuse;

When they have a hidden agenda;

When their life is about them;

When it’s clear your issues are being ignored;

When they don’t want to know and they don’t have your back.

When it comes to others you must stop caring, wanting things to be right, when it is clear others couldn’t care less about you. Relationships must be mutual. Relationships shouldn’t feel strained or be difficult.

Take comfort in those who care about you. Focus on what you can control. When it becomes to feel stressful, when everything about the friendship becomes a challenge and you know in your gut it’s not working, it’s time to walk away.

If you want to stop caring, it’s time to make changes to your belief system. Not caring won’t make you heartless, or mean-spirited, but rather you’ll free yourself from the burden of feeling the need to continually please others and not feel guilty about it.

Not everyone is worth your time, energy and support. We usually do that at the cost of our own mental health. Be honest with yourself. The truth is you are the one that’s worth your time, energy and support.
