Wolfe war zunächst Pitcher beim Baseball und hatte schon während des Studiums begonnen, halbprofessionell zu spielen. Wolfe gab dann den Sport auf und folgte dem Beispiel seines Professors Fishwick und schrieb sich für das amerikanische Doktoratsstudium an der Yale University ein. Im Laufe seiner Forschung interviewte Wolfe viele Schriftsteller. Nach dem Studium in Yale arbeitete er als Journalist, unter anderem für die New York Herald Tribune und deren Magazin New York sowie für die Washington Post. Sein erstes Buch mit dem Titel »Das bonbonfarbene tangerinrot-gespritzte Stromlinienbaby« war eine Sammlung verschiedener Reportagen unter anderem über Popmusik und Autobastler. Das 1965 erschienene Werk gilt als einer der »Grundsteine des New Journalism«. Während der 60er und 70er Jahre veröffentlichte Wolfe weitere Reportagesammlungen. In dem Essay »Radical Chic« und »Mau-Mau bei der Wohlfahrtsbehörde« diskutierte Wolfe die bloß modische Unterstützung radikaler Bewegungen wie der Black Panther Party durch reiche, weiße Künstler und Socialites. Ein weiterer Bestseller wurde »Die Helden der Nation«, eine Roman ähnliche Reportage über die Testpiloten der NASA. Dessen englischer Buchtitel »The Right Stuff« nahm bald sprichwörtlichen Charakter an; in dem Werk wurde der Raumfahrt-Mythos auf den Boden der Tatsachen zurückgeholt. Die 1983 vorgenommene Kinoverfilmung durch Philip Kaufman erhielt den treffenderen deutschen Titel »Der Stoff, aus dem die Helden sind«. Wolfe, ein begabter Zeichner, hat mehrere seiner Bücher selbst illustriert. NADA NUEVO BAJO EL SOL

Si bien el libro de Tom Wolfe se titula EL NUEVO PERIODISMO, de nuevo tiene muy poco. Poco por dos razones...

La primera razón por la que EL NUEVO PERIODISMO no es tan nuevo se encuentra en su año de publicación: 1973.

La segunda, para mí, está en que contar historias reales con estética de ficción tampoco es muy novedoso. De hecho, la #Humanidad lo viene haciendo desde que tenemos memoria, y lo vamos a hacer una y otra vez.

Sin embargo, el #NuevoPeriodismo fue algo, en su momento, sumamente disruptivo para el #Periodismo. Contamos la realidad, de los años 60 para acá, con estilo literario, para ganar lectores y entretener más a los que ya leen noticias, notas, artículos, entrevistas, editoriales, crónicas y columnas.

EL NUEVO PERIODISMO, de Tom Wolfe, es un compendio de muestras de varias plumas famosas de Norte América, y en él podemos leer sobre los largos y blancos brazos de Ava (Gardner), sobre la pareja macrobiótica, pasando por la cocina de la campaña de #Nixon y los avatares de una porrista adolescente.

Rex Reed, Terry Southern, Norman Mailer, Nicholas Tomalin, Bárbara L. Goldsmith, Joe McGinnis, Robert Christgau y John Gregory Dunne son los nombres que acompañan al de Tom, completando la antología ideada por Wolfe.

Seas #periodista o no, EL NUEVO PERIODISMO es un texto ideal para disfrutar en #Verano, porque cada texto es breve e independiente, porque son historias entretenidas y raras. Tan raras como sólo las podemos encontrar como cuando nos ponemos a mirar a nuestro alrededor, en la cotidianeidad.

Un excelente libro para fantasear y pensar que estamos escapando de la realidad, aunque todo sea verdad.

О дизайне в нашей жизни Последнюю прочитанную книгу я выбрала из-за шрифта, которым была оформлена обложка, после обратила на само название, которое было весьма удачным)))) книга оказалась очень интересной и 700 страниц я прочла буквально за пару дней. Последний сериал, который я посмотрела, я выбрала на основании видео трейлера, вернее титров и оформлении заставки. Сериал мне понравился и сюжетом, и продакшеном, и теми же титрами в начале серии. Мой компьютер самый классный по дизайну среди других компьютеров, которые стоят на полках масс-маркетов, потому что у меня MacBook Pro Retina И наш Mercedes ML я тоже неимоверно люблю за комфорт, лаконичность, продуманность и плавные формы, не смотря на то что машина уже не новая. Я все это к тому, что дизайн это не про «красивую картинку где-то там», а про реальную пользу настоящих вещей в нашей жизни. Окружая себя дизайнерскими вещами мы окружаем себя не только красотой, но и технологической продуманностью и лаконичной функциональностью. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😎😎😎😎😎 About design in our lives. I liked the series and the plot and production and the same titles at the beginning of the series. My computer is the coolest in design among other computers that are on the shelves of mass markets, because I have a MacBook Pro Retina And I also incredibly love our Mercedes ML for comfort, conciseness, thoughtfulness and smooth forms, despite the fact that the car is no longer new. I’m all about the fact that design is not about “a beautiful picture somewhere there,” but about the real benefit of real things in our lives. Well, I’m about to start on my next ebook read, and for the first time in over a year, it’s a nonfiction book! This is the 1968 classic “The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test” by Tom Wolfe, one of the first of many well-acclaimed books by the journalist Tom Wolfe, who died in 2018. Although he is best known for writing “The Right Stuff” (an account of the early days of the American space program) and his novel “The Bonfire of the Vanities” (which also served as commentary on life and society in 1980s New York City), both of which were adapted into successful movies, this book was one of his first hits. This book follows the adventures of writer and counterculture figure Ken Kesey and a group of people he hung with called the “Merry Pranksters”. It is the highlight of a handful of works and essay collections written by Wolfe during this era of American history. Wolfe was a pioneer of a literary and journalistic movement called “New Journalism” that also included the likes of Norman Mailer, Truman Capote, and Hunter S. Thompson, among many others. Although the New Journalism movement itself waned in popularity by the 1980s, Wolfe remains an iconic figure of the movement, and of modern nonfiction writing in general.
